Back in April we learned the dates of Grimmfest 2014, which takes place in Manchester, England, from the 2nd-5th October, and now they've revealed the headlining act and first film along with some special September preview screenings.

Headlining Grimmfest 2014 is Italian 70's progressive rock legends Claudio Simonetti's Goblin, performing a live score to Dario Argento’s horror classic Suspiria. This truly unique event will take place at The Dancehouse in Manchester on Friday 3rd October. Click here for ticket info.

Grimmfest producer Sim Halligan said, "We are delighted to be hosting this immersive screening of Suspiria; our fans will love the film and really get behind the ironic venue."

The live scored Goblin event will be followed by a screening of Dario Argento’s cut of Dawn of the Dead, which is also soundtracked by Goblin.

Grimmfest 2014 introduces special previews in September, a season of 'run up' titles to get horror fans 'in the mood.' The first of these is White Settlers, dubbed 'the Scottish referendum' horror movie by The Guardian, which premieres at Film4 FrightFest on the 23rd August and then previews at Grimmfest from 15th-18th September. Also previewing is Devil's Tower (world premiere), starring Jason Mewes, on Wednesday 10th September. Each preview night will run with a selection of new short horror films.

The first film of Grimmfest 2014 has also been announced, and it is the UK premiere of cannibal feature He Never Died by Jason Krawczyk, which stars US punk legend Henry Rollins, Booboo Stewart, and Steven Ogg.

Grimmfest is now in its sixth year and has quickly become the UK’s premier festival of genre film outside of London. The full 2014 programme will be announced on 30th August. Indiecan Entertainment, Parade Deck Films, and Devolver Digital have teamed up to release Don Thacker’s sleeper festival hit MOTIVATIONAL GROWTH (starring genre legend Jeffrey Combs).

The film will hit VOD worldwide on September 30th (via Devolver in most countries and Indiecan in Canada), Blu-ray and DVD in Canada on the same date, and DVD in the US the following week (via Parade Deck) on October 6th. Also, as a bonus for those attending FanExpo/Festival of Fear in Toronto (August 28th-31st), advance copies of the film will be available at the Indiecan booth (#5412).

In Motivational Growth, Ian Foliver (Adrian DiGiovanni), a depressed and reclusive man in his 30s, finds himself taking advice from a growth in his bathroom after a failed suicide attempt. The Mold (Re-Animator star Jeffrey Combs), a smooth talking fungus born of the filth in a neglected bathroom, works to help Ian clean himself up and remodel his lifestyle. The Mold has big plans for Ian, but they may not be as innocent as they seem. A labyrinthine narrative follows, full of colorfully drawn characters and gruesome body horror. “The Mold knows, Jack. The Mold knows.”

Looking for a good way to kill some time today before starting your Friday evening shenanigans? Well, how about ticking away the minutes with the forever hot Barbara Crampton as she beats off a beastie in the new short film Paisley?

Paisley, from director Matt Olmon and writer Evan Dickson, stars Crampton as a wealthy, sheltered woman who reads The Help and decides to give her entire staff the day off at the worst possible time: after a murderous little gremlin has stolen his way into her mansion.

“Take the skin and peel it back; now doesn’t it make...” Oh wait, there are actors in here. WB Games released a new trailer for Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor, and aside from snippets of new in-game footage, it peels back the game’s skin to introduce us to two of those actors.

Meet the story’s two lead characters, Talion and Celebrimbor. But really it’s like being introduced to two old friends, the first of which is Alastair Duncan, who plays Celebrimbor. He previously was Councilor Sparatus in Mass Effect 3 and lent additional voices to Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception.

Beside him is video game heavyweight Troy Baker, who plays the game’s lead, Talion. Baker’s credits include The Joker in Batman: Arkham Origins, starring in InFamous: Second Son as Delsin Rowe, and the lead role in the game of the year winner, The Last of Us.

With this kind of talent on screen, look for Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor’s performance stature to dwarf Andre the Giant as the world may soon be living in its eclipse.

Duncan and Baker sit down and discuss aspects of making the story work with the gameplay and the player’s voyage of discovery and reveal that Talion and Celebrimbor are not always the best of friends.

A few weeks ago, Celebrimbor was revealed to be aiding Talion’s quest, but just how was kept in a state akin to Milton’s hell, in total darkness. This new trailer reveals that Celebrimbor will sometimes fuse with Talion. This seems to be the best clue as to what will give Tallion his additional powers.

Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor will be released on September 30th for PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. It is currently available for pre-order here and below.

Horror Decor has declared August the month of nightmares by releasing a slew of new items starting on August 11, 2014. This coming Monday will bring the release of the Tortured Souls Line. This new line includes small and large double sided pillows, a pillowcase, and a potholder all featuring artwork by Matt Ryan, who brought to life a fleshy landscape where suffering faces attempt to escape.

The pillow features the Tortured Souls image on one side and the iconic red and green stripes on the other. The small pillow, which is approximately 11.5” x 11.5” (measured from top corner to top corner), will be $20, and the large pillow, which is approximately 16” x 16” (measured from top corner to top corner), will be $30.

The pillowcase will be $16 and is available in a very limited quantity; it measures 30" x 20", which can easily fit on any standard size pillow and is 100% polyester. The Tortured Souls image is printed on both sides of the pillowcase.

The pot holder will be $6 and is approximately 7.5” x 7.5”. It features the Tortured Souls image on the front and the back is a plain black fabric.

Menahem Golan. For fans of 80's films the man is nothing short of a legend. It's with a truly heavy heart that we report today that his truly explosive genius is no longer with us. Read on for details, and pay tribute to the man who gave us so very much.

According to Yahoo! Movies, Golan, co-founder of The Cannon Group production company and Israeli cinema pioneer, has died. He was 85. According to multiple Israeli news outlets, Golan lost consciousness while visiting the city of Jaffa with family members in the early hours of Friday evening.

Ambulances immediately rushed to the scene, and following attempts to resuscitate him, paramedics pronounced him dead.

With cousin and partner Yoram Globus, Golan ran Cannon Films for a decade, releasing more than a dozen films a year in its prime. They bought the ailing company, which was launched in 1967, for $500,000 in 1979 and fueled an appetite for B-films that was created by the invention of the VCR. For a time, Cannon was on the brink of becoming the seventh Hollywood "major" studio.

Golan produced more than 200 films including horror hits like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, Night of the Living Dead (1990), The Godsend, Schizoid, and New Year's Evil in addition to more action movies than anyone could ever imagine.

Word has come our way that Spirit World Films has just started production on their next feature, entitled Creature Feature, in Atlanta, GA! Read on for the first details and even a nifty piece of promo art that will be close to the hearts of lots of fans.

This is the fifth independent feature film by Spirit World Productions and their fourth in the horror genre. Creature Feature is a horror anthology that is a throwback to classic comic book style horror films like Creepshow and old horror comics of the 1950s.

The film consists of four unique tales of terror that overlap and intersect in non-liner ways, much like Trick 'r Treat and Pulp Fiction, with a fifth wrap-around story that connects them all together.

Chase Smith directs. Libby Blanton, Tenille Houston, Stacia Hitt, Lance Paul, Stephanie Davis, and Jason Vail star.

Synopsis:
Creature Feature is comprised of five interwoven tales of terror that occur one foggy Halloween night in Georgia. Synopsis

Sit back, kids! Because the Foywonder is about to expose you to an assortment of terrors from years gone by! Creatures so horrifying and hyperbolic that one cannot help but long for the much simpler times these baddies haunted.

They just don't make movie trailers like they used to back in the 1950s thru early 1960s. Watching a reel of old atomic age sci-fi/horror trailers, I couldn't help but notice how often variations of certain adjectives kept coming up. That's when I got the idea to create a super cut trailer promising a double feature of the most frightful motion pictures you'll ever see.

Halloween Horror Nights has added another maze to its Orlando and Hollywood lineups, and it revolves around a character who's both brand new and extremely familiar. How can that be? Because it's "Dracula Untold," inspired by the upcoming film of the same name.

This past Wednesday, August 6th, saw the close of the 18th edition of Montreal's Fantasia Film Festival; and now that the dust has settled, we have the full list of this year's award winners plus the Fest's dates for 2015.

Returning to its home at Concordia University after the location’s massive 2013 renovations, the acclaimed Fantasia International Film Festival, North America’s longest-running genre film fest, benefited from having three theaters in which to screen its record 160+ films.

Among the numerous highlights that took place during the three-week festival were the crowd-pleasing, revelatory world premieres of Leo Gabriadze’s CYBERNATURAL (review here), Sarah Adina Smith’s THE MIDNIGHT SWIM, and Bennett Jones’ I AM A KNIFE WITH LEGS. Also of note were massively successful screenings of Richard Linklater’s BOYHOOD, James Gunn’s GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, Lee Su-jin’s HAN GONG-JU, Keishi Otomo’s RUROUNI KENSHIN – KYOTO INFERNO, and Lenny Abrahamson’s FRANK.

Animation legend Mamoru Oshii (GHOST IN THE SHELL) and horror director Tobe Hooper (THE TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE) both received Lifetime Achievement Awards, while fans flocked to LIFE AFTER BETH stars Matthew Gray Gubler and Aubrey Plaza. Abel Ferrara presented the North American premiere of his controversial new film WELCOME TO NEW YORK.

In total, more than 129,000 festivalgoers attended Fantasia 2014’s various screenings and events. 90,000 fans attended the festival’s 216 theatrical film presentations, which represents more than 70% of the theaters’ full capacities. 19,000 Spectators attended Fantasia’s two massive outdoor screenings, presented in collaboration with the Just for Laughs festival.

The third edition of the festival’s international co-production market, Frontières, also logged record attendance, with a boost of over 30% over their 2013 edition – and over 350 industry attendees from over twenty countries. The new Works-in-Progress session, in which films currently in post-production were able to screen glimpses of their projects to audiences, proved ones of the market’s most popular events.

The 19th edition of the Fantasia International Film Festival will take place from July 16 through August 4, 2015.

HBO is casting a pretty wide net when it comes to filling roles in its upcoming adaptation of "Westworld," as evidenced by this latest word that X-Men franchise star James Marsden plus seven other notable actors have just signed on.

Per THR's The Live Feed, Marsden will play Teddy Flood, a mysterious new arrival to a small frontier town. He quickly proves both his charm - and his talent with a revolver. His pursuit of a local beauty launches him on a dark journey.

Inspired by Michael Crichton's 1973 film of the same name, the project, which hails from JJ Abrams' Bad Robot Productions, Jerry Weintraub Productions, and Kilter Films, is billed as "a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the future of sin."

Eddie Rouse (Pandorum, American Gangster) has been cast as "Kissy" (short for "Kisecawchuck"), a laconic American-Indian card - and contraband - dealer from the town saloon, making him an expert in games both on and off the table.

Other new additions include Demetrius Grosse ("Justified"), Kyle Bornheimer (She's Out of My League, Bachelorette), Currie Graham ("Murder in the First"), Lena Georgas ("Ray Donovan"), Steven Ogg (Grand Theft Auto V), and Timothy Lee DePriest.

They join the previously announced Anthony Hopkins, Evan Rachel Wood, Jeffrey Wright, Rodrigo Santoro, Shannon Woodward, Ingrid Bolso Berdal, Angela Sarafyan, and Simon Quarterman.

Abrams will executive produce alongside veteran producer Weintraub and Bad Robot's Bryan Burk. "Person of Interest's" Jonathan Nolan, who co-wrote the pilot, will executive produce and direct as well. Lisa Joy co-wrote the pilot and will exec produce. Kathy Lingg will co-EP, and Athena Wickham is a producer on the Warner Bros. Television drama. David Coatsworth is set as a co-EP and line producer with Susie Ekins set as a co-producer.

We told you weeks ago that Robert Englund would be slapping on his burnt makeup and reprising the iconic role of Freddy Krueger at Chicago's Flashback Weekend; and if you couldn't make it, we have a look at the dream demon in full regalia!

In celebration of A Nightmare on Elm Street's 30th anniversary, Chicago's Flashback Weekend convention announced that Englund would be appearing at the event in full Freddy Krueger makeup for one night only. Fans were even offered a special ticket package which let them nab a picture with Englund as Freddy, an opportunity that was NEVER before given to us fans.

Utilizing the same extensive process used on the Elm Street film sets, the makeup was applied by FX legend Robert Kurtzman, who worked on both Dream Child and New Nightmare. This marked the first time Englund has ever appeared as Freddy on the convention circuit, and it's likely the last time he will ever don the iconic makeup.

For the second year in a row, fans had better stick to the roads and stay away from the moors as An American Werewolf in London is again on its way to Halloween Horror Nights! Kids, beware! A naked American man may just steal your balloons!

In case you've been living under a rock or are too young to know any better, the iconic film follows two American college students, Jack and David, as they backpack across the moors of England. On a misty, full-moon night, the men are attacked by a supernatural creature that kills Jack and taints David with its horrific curse.

When the full moon rises again, the killing spree continues, and this time the blood is on David’s hands.
