Ghostly Activity at Recent Charles Manson Murder Scene Seance

Ghostly Activity at Recent Charles Manson Murder Scene SeanceCharles Manson. His name will live in infamy long after we're all dead and gone, and with good reason... the evil that this man is responsible for is as brutal as it is reprehensible. Apparently some of that negative energy is still lingering...

Seance goers early Saturday morning, August 9th - the 45th anniversary of the Sharon Tate murders - experienced a rather bizarre happening when just after midnight, as the seance was in full swing, a fire alarm went off for no apparent reason. There was no evidence of fire or smoke, although two candles on the table lit up the scene.

The seance was held 200 feet from 10050 Cielo Drive, the site where Manson Family members slaughtered five people, including Tate. (Two other victims, Leno and Rosemary LaBianca, were killed the next night in a different location.) The Cielo Drive house is no longer there, and the address has been changed, but ghost stories from the area remain pretty frequent.

TMZ caught video from the event. Check it out below.

More on The Last of Us Film Adaptation

More on The Last of Us Film AdaptationOne of the biggest stories to come out of this past Comic-Con was the announcement that Sony Screen Gems and Sam Raimi are preparing a feature film adaptation of Naughty Dog's The Last of Us. Recently writer and creative director Neil Druckmann shed more light on the film's direction.

In two hours you can’t tell the same kind of story that you can in a game like The Last of Us, which is 15 hours,” Druckmann told website MCV. “I’m in the middle of it now, and it’s been super difficult because there’s so much that happens in The Last of Us – even just in the cinematics – that can’t fit in a film, let alone all the gameplay in-between and dialogue.

It’s been really difficult to cut certain things out, but what I’m starting to get this is really focused narrative that’s about these two characters [Joel and Ellie]. Some parts will be similar to the game and some parts will be quite different, but it’s kind of interesting in helping me understand this other medium and its strengths compared to video games.

Maisie Williams (pictured; Arya Stark on HBO's "Game of Thrones") has been mentioned as a possibility for live action Ellie.

Synopsis
When Teresa and the girls leave their suburban New Jersey salon for a weekend of sun and sin down the shore, they are blindsided by a bizarre twist of events that catapult them from the sands of Seaside Heights to a secluded house deep in the New Jersey Pine Barrens. Frightened by stories of the legendary Jersey Devil, the local population of Pineys, and a giant dim-witted neighbor, the girls eagerly return to Seaside Heights, where they hook-up with five fist-pumping delinquents who incessantly disrespect all with their reprehensible behavior.

As day turns to night, the group converges at a Seaside bar where they are soon ejected for inciting a dance-floor brawl. With nowhere else to go, the group retreats to the house in the Pine Barrens for a night of carnal delights. Blinded by their selfish pursuits, they remain unaware that their long outstanding debt to humanity is about to be settled - with their lives. Cemetery Dance Announces October Dreams II: A Celebration of HalloweenIf you're a rabid fan of literary horror, this announcement from Cemetery Dance should make your week! October Dreams II: A Celebration of Halloween, the long-awaited follow-up to one of the most acclaimed Halloween anthologies ever, is on its way.

The sequel features works by Ray Bradbury, Dean Koontz, Robert McCammon, John Skipp, Robert Bloch, Stewart O’Nan, Glen Hirshberg, Joe R. Lansdale, Al Sarrantonio, Whitley Strieber, Lisa Morton, Matthew Costello, Elizabeth Massie, and dozens of others.

It's once again edited by Richard Chizmar and Robert Morrish, the masterminds behind 2002's October Dreams. Chizmar is the founder and publisher/editor of Cemetery Dance magazine and the Cemetery Dance Publications book imprint. Morrish is the former editor of Cemetery Dance magazine and co-editor of The Scream Factory magazine.

This oversized volume will contain spooky Halloween short fiction, dozens of authors and artists recalling their own personal memories of Halloween, and essays detailing the "history" of Halloween. Many of the contributing authors will also autograph the signed editions, which won't last long considering the popularity of the original October Dreams and the low print runs planned for these special editions.

Published in three states:
• Trade Hardcover Edition ($40)
• Slipcased Limited Edition Hardcover of 450 signed (by dozens of contributors) and numbered copies ($150)
• Deluxe Traycased Lettered Edition of 52 signed (by dozens of contributors) and lettered copies bound in leather with a satin ribbon page marker ($500)

Special Note For Collectors:
For a very limited time only, orders are being accepted for copies of the trade hardcover personally signed by the editors. There is no extra charge for these copies, but this offer will not last long.

As for the release date, here's the latest update from Cemetery Dance's website: We're aiming to get the trade edition out this fall, assuming the proofreading doesn't hit too many snags this month. The signature sheets are circulating now for the signed editions, but with the added production time for the sheets and for the slipcases/traycases, those editions will be published in 2015.

Visit Cemetery Dance's online store to pre-order your copy of October Dreams II: A Celebration of Halloween. If the original October Dreams somehow slipped under your radar, you can find out more about it via the below EvilShop link.

Terry M. West's Heroin in the Magic Now Available August 31st

Terry M. West's Heroin in the Magic Now Available August 31stOne thing we try to do here at Dread Central is keep you as up-to-date as possible on all the latest literary horror news, and this morning we have info on Terry M. West's intriguingly titled Heroin in the Magic Now, due out on August 31st.

A trade paperback is expected to quickly follow for this horror novella that is described as "'Breaking Bad' meets 'True Blood'."

As a bit of back story, Heroin in the Magic Now is a dark and personal tale by Terry M. West.

Though known more recently for his highly praised horror fiction, West spent a short period of his career on the fringe of the adult film industry. He wrote and directed soft-core films. This association nearly ruined his reputation as a serious artist, and West went into a deep depression that resulted in substance abuse.

He straightened himself up and left the creative world for a decade. He returned in 2013, and his newer work has found an audience of happy readers. West has reestablished himself as a horror author worthy of attention.

Heroin in the Magic Now explores pain and hell, something most of us Dreadies are intimately familiar with.

Synopsis:
The story is set in an alternate version of NYC where every form of monster exists next to man. The Night Things have climbed onto our shores from the shadows, and they are now part of the system.

Gary Hack, a down on his luck exploitation film director with an appetite for heroin, finds himself working in the dangerous world of monster fetish videos. Gary is made an offer he can't refuse by Johnny Stücke, an immortal crime boss. The video Johnny envisions could be the greatest zombie fetish film ever created. But it could also ignite an apocalypse that could destroy the city.

Heroin in the Magic Now is original, startling, and brutal. It will leave a mark inside.

For more info check out the official Pleasant Storm Entertainment and Terry M. West websites.

Check Out Toula Mavridou-Messer's Fantasy Whodunit Mortal End: A Simmering Pit of Jiggery PokeryIf an "old fashioned fairy tale of intrigue, murder, cannibalism, and incest" sounds intriguing, read on to learn more about today's third horror book announcement: Toula Mavridou-Messer's Mortal End: A Simmering Pit of Jiggery Pokery, available now.

    From the Press Release:
Ænus P. Wordsworth, the arrogant, absinthe-drinking village rector, plays detective in an attempt to discover just whom the bones in the giant mound of burnt toffee belong to and how on earth they got there.

Why does guilt hang heavy in this village like offal in a stew? What secret has the God-fearing Ænus P. Wordsworth kept so carefully? Where have all the children gone? These and many other questions will be answered when you read Mortal End: A Simmering Pit of Jiggery Pokery, available now via CreateSpace.

This fantasy whodunit is filled with mystery and humor, a tantalizing sense of suspense, and absurd darkness, which will capture your imagination in a way no other murder mystery ever has.

Mortal End: A Simmering Pit of Jiggery Pokery, the debut novel from Toula Mavridou-Messer, was written in the space of three weeks after two car crashes in just one hour. Even the rescue serviceman who came to collect her from the mangled wreckage was hesitant about transporting her, saying, "Things happen in threes, don't they?"

"It's a sign," thought Toula, as those crashes came during the return journey from a residential crime writing course she attended, given by best-selling author Val McDermid. She had been battling a major problem faced by so many would-be authors - that of actually finishing a project and then doing something with it.

Facing death head-on seems to have been the antidote, although not necessarily recommended as a remedy for all. Every time Toula was faced with either a blank page or the option of walking away from the typewriter, she remembered that she had been spared a fate worse than death... or in fact, death and that small fact kept her chained to her desk. Fortunately she saw the funny - and disturbing - side, and hopefully so will you when you read Mortal End: A Simmering Pit of Jiggery Pokery.

    Synopsis:

"It was me," said a voice from the other side of the cottage door.
"It was me. I killed her. I should have done it years ago."

A lightning storm sparks a fire deep in Phooka Wood. The following morning Mortal End’s self-righteous rector Ænus P. Wordsworth, his sidekick Savant Poe, and a motley crew of villagers venture into the wood to see what damage has been done. To their amazed befuddlement, right in the center of the seared earth, is a giant mound of molten toffee and, within it, a selection of human remains.

Ænus P. Wordsworth takes it upon himself to find out whom these bones belong to and how they came to be there. In doing so, he uncovers an horrific tale of murder, incest, and cannibalism that spreads throughout the neighboring villages that surround Phooka Wood. Their investigation takes them to all corners of their roundabout world, from Mortal End to the oozing Hamlet of Stifle and Little Napoo. Along their colorful journey we are introduced to a larger than life cast including Doc Sheare, the barber surgeon; Verrye Brutall, the handsome woodsman; Beliala Bigswoln, the publican’s daughter; Baron Rubigo Bluebeard; and Umbra the Bogyman.

Everyone seems to have a secret they are trying to hide that could give clues to the horror of Phooka Wood. Even Ænus P. Wordsworth has something to hide!

Slender Man Is Haunting These New Eidolon State Stills

Slender Man Is Haunting These New Eidolon State StillsFreeze Frame Films just checked in with some new stills from the short film The Eidolon State, which focuses on the haunting sensation that is The Slender Man. Look for the flick to premiere online in later this month.

"You tend to see a lot of found footage films about The Slender Man, most of them based off the popular video game Slender: The Eight Pages," said Freeze Frame Films' Dion Cavallaro, Cain Harrip, and Paul Thomas.

"Along with this, most Slender Man films tend to use people in morph suits or morph masks, which we feel is not a correct portrayal of The Slender Man. Our film has been treated with a different approach. We are working on something that uses films such as The Conjuring or Sinister as a guide - detailed stories with beautiful cinematography and a true sense of horror."

"Along with this, our film never actually refers to the character as 'The Slender Man' but refers to him as 'The Tall Man.' Our main goal is to bring people the Slender Man short film we feel they deserve, similar to how Gareth Edwards [delivered] the new Godzilla film that fans have been wanting."

Robert Englund Talks Saying Goodbye to FreddyThis past weekend Robert Englund reprised the iconic role of Freddy Krueger at Chicago's Flashback Weekend to raise money to save a local Chicago drive-in, and Fox News Chicago was there to capture the moment as well as speak with the man himself.

In celebration of A Nightmare on Elm Street's 30th anniversary, Chicago's Flashback Weekend convention announced that Englund would be appearing at the event in full Freddy Krueger makeup for one night only.

Fans were even offered a special ticket package which let them nab a picture with Englund as Freddy, an opportunity that was NEVER before given to us fans.

Utilizing the same extensive process used on the Elm Street film sets, the makeup was applied by FX legend Robert Kurtzman, who worked on both Dream Child and New Nightmare. This marked the first time Englund has ever appeared as Freddy on the convention circuit, and it's likely the last time he will ever don the iconic makeup.

Universal Confirms American Werewolf In London for Halloween Horror Nights

Universal Confirms American Werewolf In London for Halloween Horror NightsWe told you over the weekend that An American Werewolf In London would be returning to Universal's Halloween Horror Nights event, and today the studio that monsters built made it official. Read on for the details.

    From the Press Release
Universal Pictures’ Academy Award®-winning and genre-defining film An American Werewolf in London, written and directed by John Landis, will be unleashed upon guests at Universal Studios Hollywood in an all-new “Halloween Horror Nights” maze beginning Friday, September 19, 2014.

The experience will recreate legendary scenes from the cult favorite using gruesomely convincing props, chillingly authentic music and mind-blowing special effects that will re-awaken the terrorizing shape shifting creature with superhuman strength: the Werewolf.

Guests will begin their horrifying journey as they enter “The Slaughtered Lamb,” the English countryside pub movie fans will instantly recognize, and experience first-hand what the tavern patrons in the film meant when they cautioned, “Stay on the road, keep clear of the Moors and beware the moon.” After stumbling upon the overgrown wasteland known as the “Moors,” maze-goers will be forced to traverse through dense fog amidst sounds of savage growls and unknown peril ahead.

“We are extremely excited to bring ‘An American Werewolf in London’ to Universal Studios Hollywood’s Halloween Horror Nights for the first time,” said John Murdy, Universal Studios Hollywood Creative Director and Executive Producer of Halloween Horror Nights. “John Landis’ iconic horror film and the groundbreaking makeup effects by Academy Award-winner Rick Baker have influenced generations of horror filmmakers and fans and remains a classic of the genre. Turning such a celebrated film, which has been characterized as one of the greatest films of all time, into a ‘living horror movie’ can be daunting. As the movie studio that invented the horror film genre, we have the expertise to deliver a realistically compelling experience and are up to the challenge.”

Along with “The Slaughtered Lamb” pub and the Yorkshire Moors, guests will recognize other memorable scenes and characters from the film – including the London Underground and gun-wielding demon soldiers. The famous “transformation scene” that inspired the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences to create an Oscar® for achievement in makeup will also be featured in the remarkable maze experience.

“The team at Universal Studios Hollywood has gone to great lengths to recreate the mood and details of the movie,” said John Landis. “The true test for guests will be to see if they are able to endure the scares lurking throughout the maze – rather than screaming from room to room. I want them to really absorb the elaborate sets, make-up and special effects custom designed for this experience.”

An American Werewolf in London not only captured the Academy Award® for “Best Makeup” in 1982 for renowned makeup artist Rick Baker but was also named Best Horror Film by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films the same year. Killers - New Trailer and StillsWe told you a month ago that the hotly anticipated new film from Macabre directing duo Kimo Stamboel and Timo Tjahjanto (aka The Mo Brothers), Killers, had theatrical and DVD/Blu-ray release dates in the UK; and right now we have new stills and a trailer for you to chew on!

Killers arrives on store shelves September 1st.

    Synopsis:
Nomura is a good-looking and stylish man in his early thirties who lives a successful life in Tokyo, Japan. Girls are drawn to him, something he uses to his advantage as none of them realise the sinister truth behind the clean-cut façade.

Nomura has been leaving a legacy of violent murders that he immortalises through video clips posted on a public video website. He thrives off of the fact that millions are witnessing his work through the virally spread videos.

Thousands of miles away from him, in a whole different world, lives Bayu, a disgraced investigative journalist living in a violent and unstable Jakarta, Indonesia. As Bayu’s life is hit by the nadir of failures, Nomura’s videos trigger his dark side as he starts to record his own brand of “justified” killings. Nomura’s seemingly confident and controlled charm starts to peel when his ego is wounded by the fact that Bayu’s videos have reached a significant numbers of followers that could rival his own.

Complicating matters further is Nomura’s bizarre attraction towards traumatised young florist Hisae. Bayu himself starts to sink deeper into a spiral of violence, obsessed with bringing down one of the country’s biggest and most corrupt politicians, but during his bloody rampage he doesn’t realise the repercussions for his young daughter, Elly.

When the rivalry between Nomura and Bayu becomes an uncontrollable psychosis, the two of them must face each other in one of the most exhilarating film finales in years.

Peter Stormare Gets a Welcome to PurgatoryAround these parts we love us some Peter Stormare. This guy can do creepy and evil with THE BEST of 'em so it only makes sense that he join the ever-growing cast of the new flick from Scott Spiegel (Evil Dead) entitled Welcome to Purgatory. Read on for the latest.

Cupsogue Pictures announced today that Stormare will be playing Lucius, one of the main antagonists in the flick. He joins the previously announced Bruce Campbell, Stephen Marcus, and James Buckley for the feature, which is set to take us deep into the bowels of Hell.

Though Campbell's role hasn't yet been revealed, Buckley will play Luke, a petty thief who doesn’t have much luck, even in the Afterlife. Along with his partner-in-crime, Charlie (Marcus), they try to make the best of every bad situation in Purgatory but with little success.

Directed by Gene Fallaize, the film also stars Jillian Murray, Nathan Jones, Jack O’Halloran, Tony Cook, and Tory Kittles.

Cook and Fallaize are producing the film, which was written by Cook and Marcus Ako, for Cupsogue Pictures. Filming is due to commence on Welcome to Purgatory at Pinewood Studios ahead of a theatrical release in 2015.

According to the IMDb, a sequel, Welcome to Purgatory II: The Journey to Hell, is already planned with Fallaize back at the helm.

    Synopsis
Welcome to Purgatory follows three new arrivals – Willis, Taylor (Cook), and Danni (Murray) – as they navigate this fresh vision of the Afterlife, helped along the way by trusty Guardian Paul. They find the afterlife in ruins amidst a growing war between Good and Evil. All the rules of the Afterlife have been broken, and they must find a way to make things right before Heaven is ruined for the rest of time.

At the Devil's Door Director Almost Remade French Film Livide

At the Devil's Door Director Almost Remade French Film LivideThough Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo's 2011 film Livide (review) hasn't yet been released here in the States, an American remake is nevertheless in some form of development.

Over the weekend The Pact director Nicholas McCarthy made the surprising revelation that he was recently attached to direct. In an interview with Complex about his latest film, At the Devil's Door, now available through VOD outlets, the filmmaker opened up about his planned third feature, expressing that he's a big time fan of Livide and was very excited about the possibility of being at the helm for the remake.

"It was never announced that I was attached to it, but I was sure that it was going to be my third feature," revealed McCarthy. "That was the movie, though, where I realized that you can never be sure about anything."

"I’m learning that all of those cliches are true. The remake had a couple of really good producers and it was written by a guy named David Burke, who’s the guy who wrote 13 Sins, which also premiered at SXSW this year. He’s a genius and kind of took Julien and Alexandre’s movie and made some kind of sense of it but didn’t homogenize it in any way. I guess one of the reasons why I was so excited about it was that I’ve always wanted to do a vampire movie, and this was one that had a really insane third act twist."

So what went wrong? "We thought it was all set to go, but then, you know, everything fell through," McCarthy noted. "I’d still love to do it, but now I’m not formally attached to it anymore, which just means that that piece of paper has expired."

It's been awhile since we've heard anything official about the Livide remake so there's no way of knowing at the moment if another filmmaker has been brought on board or if the project is temporarily dead in the water.

How about we work on releasing the original film first and then worry about a remake?!
