Ivan Kavanagh's The Canal will be playing in select theaters day-and-date with VOD on October 10th, and to help get you ready for it, here's our exclusive interview with him at the eerie film’s premiere during Tribeca 2014.

Irish writer/director Kavanagh discusses with Dread Central the strengths of horror as a vehicle for low-budget but expressive and inventive filmmaking, reflects on some of his own influences and favorites from the genre, and shares a few nostalgic video store VHS memories.

Locals believe that a doctor lost his mind while in residence at the hospital and that after his death his spirit returned for a permanent shift in the exam rooms he loved so much. Now the Tennessee Wraith Chasers venture beyond the waiting room to track down the doctor’s spirit and finally discharge him for good.

Destination America will also be premiering "Amish Haunting" on Sunday, September 14th, at 9/8c. The all-new series will bring to life the most chilling ghost stories ever to emerge from within the Amish community.

The Amish are no strangers to horror in all its dreadful forms as their full belief is that living in the modern world will lead to sin and inevitably the frightful evil spirits. For the first time ever, these tales will be brought to life by brave narrators from the Amish community who will guide viewers on a grim, captivating trip into the Amish crypt.

We are happy to announce that we are working with Freeze Frame Film to premiere their short film The Eidolon State, which focuses on the haunting sensation that is The Slender Man. Read on for details!

Freeze Frame will be releasing the flick on YouTube Friday, August 29th, but we're going to be exclusively hosting it beginning Wednesday, August 27th!

The filmmakers' goal was to make a short film based on The Slender Man myth that stayed true to the original sources as well as being inspired by other depictions of the character. Along with this, the film's tone and atmosphere were influenced by other horror films such as The Conjuring and Sinister. The film is directed by Dion Cavallaro and Paul Thomas, who also plays the lead role of Josh alongside supporting actress Sarah Pike, who plays Ally, Josh's friend. Cain Harrip portrays The Slender Man and is also the associate producer of the film.

"Originally we were going to call our antagonist 'The Tall Man' but ultimately decided that 'The Slender Man' was more fitting and more favourable with the fans," says director Cavallaro. "After 8 months of production in total, we are happy to announce the release of our 20-minute short film, The Eidolon State. Making this film has been an enjoyable journey for us, and we hope our adaption pleases fans of the character, something we hoped to achieve and hopefully have."

As for our involvement, he explains, "We contacted Dread Central about our project in earlier stages of production and they were more than happy to help promote our film. As a result, we have chosen to premiere the film through them as Dread Central felt like the perfect place for a Slender Man film to be announced and released. Dread Central not only offer the latest in Hollywood news but also help upcoming, independent filmmakers gain some exposure. IFC Midnight, in association with Five 7 Media, is releasing The Damned in theaters on August 29th, but first, thanks to Lakeshore Records, the THE DAMNED - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack is available today, August 19th!

Lakeshore Records will release the THE DAMNED - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack on August 19, 2014. The album features original music by Frederik Wiedmann (Beware the Batman, Green Lantern: The Animated Series), who is a frequent collaborator of director Victor Garcia.

“I hope this soundtrack will keep you on the edge of your seat!” said Wiedmann.

“I met Freddie seven years ago for what was going to be our first movie together (Return to House on Haunted Hill) and ended up being the first of several collaborations,” said Garcia. “The amazing cues he's accomplished and the organic way in which his score fits the pacing makes The Damned be, without a doubt, my favorite collaboration with Freddie so far.”

Born in Stuttgart, Germany, Frederik came to Los Angeles in 2004 to pursue his childhood dream of becoming a film composer. After a couple assistant positions, Wiedmann scored his first feature, Return to House on Haunted Hill for Dark Castle Entertainment, Warner Premier, in 2007. Since then he has written music for a wide variety of feature films such as Hostel: Part III (Sony) and The Hills Run Red (Dark Castle Entertainment, Warner Premier).

“In The Damned we follow a family as they deal with their hidden secrets while, at the same time, try to defeat an ancient evil,” described Garcia. “The only thing I can say about the amazing score Freddie created this time is that I thought that I had a very clear idea of what I wanted for it to sound like until the moment I listened to the first sample that he sent me.”

“Early on in the process, Victor and I discussed how we can create an environment for this film that has a distinct flavor and concept,” Wiedmann described. “Since most of the film takes place in Colombia, I suggested the use of South American woodwind instruments, used in an unconventional way, merely to evoke a sense of place, but in a subtle, not too obvious way.

The Damned, which also hit VOD on July 25th, tells the story of American David Reynolds (Peter Facinelli; Twilight movie series, "Nurse Jackie"), widowed from his Colombian-born wife, who flies to Bogota with his new fiancée (Sophia Myles; Underworld) to retrieve his rebellious teenage daughter, Jill (Nathalia Ramos; "Switched at Birth"). En route to the city of Medellin, a car accident leaves them stranded in a run-down isolated inn. When they discover the old innkeeper has locked a young girl in the basement, they are determined to set her free. In saving the young girl, they ultimately unleash an ancient evil that's been waiting to wreak havoc on all that cross its path.

A more serious take on slime punk films like Toxic Avenger and Slime City, Jesse Thomas Cook's Septic Man (review) has more in common with Cronenberg’s tragic transformation tale The Fly.

Thanks mostly to the twisted mind of screenwriter Tony Burgess (Pontypool), Septic Man has a lot more going on under the surface than just a basic story about a man trapped underground inside a tank of absolute filth who begins to transform into something monstrous.

Director Cook spoke with us about the film and how it was one of the hardest, grossest experiences of his professional life thus far - but that doesn’t mean he didn’t have a hell of a time doing it.

DC: How was your experience at Fantasia with your latest sci-fi film Ejecta? Is there a favorite project you and [Tony] Burgess have worked on so far?

JTC: Oh, Fantasia was awesome, man. It’s sort of the Fantastic Fest of Canada. Everyone’s open to new, original content and Ejecta went over tremendously well. We got to take Tony Burgess there and Julian Richings, who had a big role in Septic Man, too. We love doing these fests; it’s what gets our films out there and spreads the word.

DC: This is my second time seeing [Septic Man], I just watched it again a couple days ago, and last weekend I was trapped in an elevator and had an unexpected panic attack here in Brooklyn. So, watching it a few days after that and seeing that kind of confinement really hit home for me! Do you have any claustrophobia yourself or fear of confinement?

JTC: (laughs) I definitely do, yeah; my entire life I have, and with this film in particular I wanted to make that sort of claustrophobic atmosphere and do sort of a chamber play all set in one confined space. Initially the idea was just about a man trapped in a well, which I had pitched to Tony Burgess, and his disgusting mind was able to transform it into what he later called 'a gift' for him as a writer, to be able to do this movie about a guy slowly entering this existential crisis and transforming into this shit demon. But yeah, absolutely, the idea was about a claustrophobic, in the vein of Buried and Saw; I looked at it as a straightforward survival horror film. Tony was able to add a ton of philosophical underpinnings that only he can add to a project.

DC: Did the space restriction make this one of your most difficult shooting experiences? What was the day-to-day like?

JTC: Well, you see early in the first act there’s a few scenes set outside of the septic tank. Those were fun and easy, and we banged them out fairly quickly; everything in the septic tank was incredibly difficult. It was a big set that we had built with all sorts of windows and secret hatches so that we could film by staying out of the tank for a little bit. But, for the most part, there were seven or eight of us stuck in this nightmare of a film set that became very difficult to work in. Simple things on a film shoot you take for granted, like walking across the set and moving an apple box or tweaking a light - all of those were elaborate coordination amongst the crew that were stuck in there. So we would kind of get in there, shut the door, and we wouldn’t come out for six hours until our lunch because we were worried if you did come out, you wouldn’t want to go back in! It stunk, it was wet, it was cold and just generally uncomfortable - but those type of things tend to develop a brotherhood, I think, with crew members that you’re collectively suffering with.

DC: I’m sure just trying to go out for a smoke break or a “safety meeting” must have been pretty difficult.

JTC: (laughs) Well, thankfully, the crew were all fine with us just smoking right in there and just tossing our cigarette butts right in the septic tank. We had this very squeamish focus puller who, I think, once or twice actually vomited right in the set. We couldn’t clean it up, and even if we could of, it just added to the realness of the set.

DC: How big was the set?

JTC: It was 16 x 20 x 16, I believe. We could do bird’s eye views through the hatch. Six weeks before the shoot, [Jason Brown] had been a production designer on our last films with small acting roles in them, so he was primarily a designer. But we went to him to play the role and who better to build it than the guy who’s gonna be trapped in it. The whole set actually blew up on us. We were filling it with water before wrap, we had to fill the tank up into ten feet of water, and midway through the entire set walls just buckled and unleashed a wave of water and we had to scramble to repair it for the last day of the shoot. We had to change a couple major scenes in the script to work in the fact that the tank could not hold ten feet of water.

DC: With Septic Man, it feels like an origin story. Is there any chance of a Septic Man crossover with Bad Milo? If you saw that film, they could be the shit demons of Groot and Rocket Raccoon.

JTC: I just saw Bad Milo about two weeks ago! Yeah, it would be interesting to explore the character outside of his little hive of where he grew to become Septic Man. You’re right; it was all in the back of our mind that it was supposed to be this kind of origin story sort of like The Fly and Toxic Avenger. Tony [Burgess] was able to add in all sorts of bizarre existential underpinnings so that it does leave it open-ended for sure.

Septic Man is now in limited release in theaters and is also available on VOD across multiple platforms.

Anchor Bay Films is releasing the highly-anticipated, terrifying supernatural horror film The Possession of Michael King in theaters on August 22nd and available On iTunes, On Demand, DVD, and Blu-ray on August 26th.

Gaming news has been flying out of the Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor camp at such a rapid pace, it feels like having a front row ticket to a kamikaze air-strike. Their complete lust for enticing gamers to buy Shadow of Mordor unveiled another glimpse at its seductive charms today, as the announcement came of the game‘s season pass and all that it contains.

The season pass includes an absolute wealth of items. First up, the exclusive Guardians of the Flaming Eye warband mission, where players will battle Sauron’s elite defenders in front of the black gate. All in order to earn the rising flame rune.

Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor will be released on September 30th for PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.

Playing at this year's Toronto International Film Festival as part of the Vanguard section is The Voices, which stars Ryan Reynolds, severed heads, and talking animals. As if you needed yet another reason to head up North.

Directed by Marjane Satrapi, the psychological thriller also stars Gemma Arterton, Anna Kendrick, and Jacki Weaver.

A.J. Cook ("Criminal Minds"), Simon Quarterman (The Devil Inside), Vik Sahay ("Chuck"), and Brian J. O’Connor (Epic Movie) round out the main cast of the werewolf flick directed by William Brent Bell (The Devil Inside).

Steven Schneider, producer of The Devil Inside, The Tall Man and the Paranormal Activity films, produced with Matthew Peterman (who wrote the screenplay) and Morris Paulson through their production company Prototype. Robert Hall and his Almost Human Inc. tackled the makeup and visual effects for WER.

Screen Daily is reporting that Giovanni Ribisi, Juno Temple (pictured), and Ty Simpkins (Insidious) will be joining the previously announced Olivia Wilde, Luke Wilson, Elisabeth Moss, and Natasha Lyonne on the Bron Studios’ film.

The project, written by Chris Rossi, marks the feature directorial debut for Reed Morano, who has served as cinematographer on The Skeleton Twins, Kill Your Darlings, HBO’s "Looking," and Frozen River.

Wilde and Wilson will play a couple dealing with their son’s disappearance.

Love sasquatchploitation? Good, then listen up! On tap for you right now we have a brand new trailer for the latest Bigfoot on the block flick, Feed the Gods, courtesy of XLrator Media, which will release the film under its horror friendly Macabre label.

Weird locals abound, and rumors of a Bigfoot creature haunting the area at first seem silly... but things quickly escalate into a frantic, scary, and action-packed nightmare with more than a few casualties along the way.

Our friends across the pond will be chowing down on Zombeavers at home way before we do here Stateside. The flick will be releasing in the UK on Blu-ray and DVD on October 20, 2014. Yep. We're kind of envious. Again.

Zombeavers is a horror comedy with hysterical interludes, gross-out gore, and old school animatronics. Making its highly anticipated UK debut at Film4 FrightFest on Thursday 21st August at the Vue West End cinema, Leicester Square, London, the UK Premiere will be the first opportunity fans will have to see Zombeavers on the big screen ahead of its home entertainment release.

Synopsis
The film follows a group of college students headed out into the wilderness for spring break, unaware of the danger that lurks beneath the lake. Unbeknownst to the vacationers, a chemical spill has irreversibly altered the wildlife, and Zombeavers are on the prowl. As a weekend of sex, drugs, and debauchery gets under way, the beavers close in on their prey; and the bloodthirsty beasts really do take the term ‘killer weekend’ to the next level.

The found footage fear-fest Delivery: The Beast Within (review) (or Delivery, as it was known in the UK) really does deliver. You'll be able to find that out for yourself soon enough as a DVD release is on the horizon.

Delivery: The Beast Within follows Kyle (Barclay) and Rachel Massy (Vail), a young couple who agree to document their first pregnancy for a new reality show. The family begins to unravel when the cameras capture a series of unexplained events, leading Rachel to believe that a malicious spirit has possessed their unborn child. After production is abandoned, a first-hand account of the tragic, and possibly supernatural, story is told through the show’s unaired footage and testimonials from friends, family, and crew members.

Synopsis

Ever since the 2009 release of Rob Zombie's Halloween 2, fans have been speculating on the future of the franchise, and we've been here to cover all those rumors and tidbits of news.

When will Michael Myers return to the big screen, and will he slash again in the form of a reboot or a continuation of Zombie's franchise? Read on for the latest rumor!

The website Schmoes Know reports today that a script entitled Halloween: The Next Chapter is currently being penned by an unnamed writer, set to be handed in to Dimension Films in the fall of 2015. Though little is known about this alleged screenplay, their sources tell them that it will be a continuation of Zombie's films, while at the same time not being a direct follow-up to Halloween 2.

What the hell does that mean? Well, your guess is as good as ours at this point in time, but the site describes the so-called Next Chapter as a companion to Zombie's films, creating a new line of Halloween movies within the rebooted franchise. Think Halloween 4, which took the original franchise in a totally different direction.

Previously, Todd Farmer and Patrick Lussier had been hired to pen a screenplay entitled Halloween 3D, though that idea seems to have been completely scrapped. It's believed that Rob Zombie won't be returning to direct the next film in the franchise, whether it actually ends up being Halloween: The Next Chapter or something entirely different.

As for Scout Taylor Compton, who took over the role of Laurie Strode for the remake and its sequel, there's no official word yet on whether or not she will be returning. Back in April the young actress tweeted that she would be involved in the next Halloween film, though things very well could have changed since then.

The highly anticipated Season 10 of Travel Channel's "Ghost Adventures" premieres on Saturday, October 4th, and to get you ready for it, we have a pair of video sneak peeks, several stills, and all the details you need. Read on for the goods!

Get ready to lockdown your October. Zak Bagans, Nick Groff, and Aaron Goodwin - the seasoned experts who have become synonymous with paranormal investigations - return for a brand-new season of Travel Channel’s "Ghost Adventures" on Saturday, October 4, at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT.

This season launches with lockdown investigations in five iconic locations airing throughout the month of October, including a two-hour Halloween special which investigates the ancient Celtic demons that make up the country’s haunted Halloween history. Season 10 is comprised of thirteen hour-long episodes and one, two-hour special.

“We’re going big this season,” said Zak Bagans, lead investigator. “From the massive Queen Mary ship in California to Ireland’s Leap Castle and Mexico’s Island of the Dolls, each location is embedded with layers of paranormal activity to explore. In the season premiere the investigative trio climb aboard the legendary ocean liner Queen Mary, now permanently docked in Long Beach, California, and considered to be one of the most haunted places in the world. Not long after the ship’s maiden voyage in 1936, it was put into military service. Tragedy surrounded the ship - nicknamed the “Gray Ghost” - until 1967, when it dropped anchor for good and became a hotel, still in operation today. Weighing more than 81,000 tons and over three football fields in length, the Queen Mary’s haunted history is as large and looming as the ship itself. With reports of multiple apparitions and voices - including that of a former crewman and little girl - the trio prepare for a powerful investigation. They first conduct a séance to channel the spirit of world renowned psychic and paranormal pioneer Peter James, who used the ship as basecamp for his studies and captured EVPs (electronic voice phenomena) of the little girl named “Jackie.” Inviting EVP specialist Debbie Constantino on the lockdown, the team members split up to investigate the massive ship and are immediately confronted with disembodied voices, intelligent responses, light anomalies, and a figure that will give chills to even the greatest of skeptics.

WellGo USA will be releasing Dead Snow 2: Red vs. Dead (review) in theaters on October 10, 2014, and right now we have a brand new one-sheet to share with you cats. Dig it!

The film is directed by Tommy Wirkola, who helmed Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, and stars Norwegian actor Vegar Hoel as Martin, the sole survivor of the first Dead Snow’s zombie bloodbath. Martin Starr, currently of HBO’s "Silicon Valley" fame, co-stars alongside Hoel and Norwegian actor Orjan Gamst, who plays the evil zombie warlord Herzog.

While an obvious homage to classic zombie movies like Evil Dead and Braindead, Dead Snow introduced a new element to the genre by giving the dead zombies an agenda. Dead Snow 2: Red vs. Dead takes things even further, giving the world's favorite monsters not just a Nazi agenda but a desire for revenge.

Synopsis
They're not just zombies. They're Nazi zombies. And there's a lot of them. On the orders of a rotten Führer, the zombies from Dead Snow return to settle old German scores.
