Kevin Smith has really been stretching his legs in the horror genre lately, and he has another on the way. This time he'll be pairing with mega-star Johnny Depp on a new horror comedy entitled Yoga Hosers! Read on for the first details.

According to THR, Smith will soon start principal photography on Yoga Hosers, which will star Depp; his daughter, Lily-Rose Depp; and Smith's daughter, Harley Quinn Smith.

The movie is Smith’s follow-up to Tusk, which premieres at the Toronto Film Festival in September, and is the second installment of Smith’s True North Trilogy, movies which are steeped in Canadian myths and culture.

In fact, the entire cast of Tusk is returning for Hosers, including Michael Parks, Justin Long, Haley Joel Osment, Genesis Rodriguez, Ralph Garman, Jennifer Schwalbach, and Harley Morenstein.

New to the cast are Tony Hale, Natasha Lyonne, Austin Butler, Adam Brody, Tyler Posey, and Jason Mewes.

Yoga Hosers, written by Smith, centers on 15-year-old yoga nuts Colleen Collette (Lily-Rose Depp) and Colleen McKenzie (Harley Quinn Smith), who have an after-school job at a Manitoba convenience store called Eh-2-Zed. When an ancient evil rises from beneath Canada’s crust and threatens their big invitation to a Grade 12 party, the Colleens join forces with a legendary man-hunter from Montreal named Guy Lapointe (Depp) to fight for their lives with, according to the producers, “all seven Chakras, one Warrior Pose at a time.”

Finally an official one-sheet is here for Jessabelle, the new film from Saw VI and Saw 3D director Kevin Greutert. Given this director's twisted past, we have to say this one is pretty damned fitting. Check it out!

Originally set for release in January of this year, the paranormal flick was recently pushed back to August and just today has been pushed back again. It's now set to hit both theaters and VOD outlets on November 7th so mark your calendars!

The flick stars Sarah Snook, Mark Webber, David Andrews, Joelle Carter, Ana de la Reguera, Larisa Oleynik, Chris Ellis, Fran Bennett, and Amber Stevens.

Get out your calendars, folks, as Universal/Legendary have just set release dates for two of their upcoming terror tales. Look for the yuletide anthology Krampus on Wednesday, November 25, 2015, and Spectral on August 12, 2016.

Michael Dougherty will be directing Krampus, based on an ancient legend about a pagan demon who punishes the wicked. The film is said to be similar in style to Dougherty’s cult hit Trick 'r Treat.

“The dark ancient origins of our holidays have always fascinated me,” Dougherty said. “I’ve been drawing twisted Christmas cards for well over a decade so it only made sense to bring some of that morbid yuletide fun to the big screen, and Krampus was the perfect mythology to do that. Christmas has been invading Halloween for far too long. It’s time to return the favor.”

Spectral, directed by Nic Matthieu, stars Emily Mortimer, James Badge Dale, Max Martini, and Cory Hardrict. The film has been described as a darker and more serious take on a Ghostbusters-like story with a plot that revolves around a special ops group formed to bring down evil ghosts that have taken over Manhattan.

All in all this final season of "True Blood" has been a cut above the last couple but still nowhere near the glory days of its early years. We're hoping it goes out on a high note, and here's a sneak peek of what's ahead in Episode 7.10, "Thank You."

Mostly, though, we're hoping it's Led Zeppelin's "Thank You" that will be playing when the final credits roll. Do you agree?

Luciano Onetti's Giallo homage Sonno Profondo is arriving on Limited Edition DVD August 26th (with a September 23rd VHS release to follow), and we have the first five minutes of the film for you to check out right here!

Sonno Profondo (Deep Sleep) is a critically acclaimed, award-winning film that brings Giallo back using some of the best 70's horror style filmmaking and design. It's being released by BrinkVision.

Lionsgate gave Entertainment Weekly the first look at the poster for Ed Sanchez's (The Blair Witch Project) new Bigfoot film, Exists, which will be arriving on various VOD platforms and in limited theaters on October 24th. Dig it!

In Bigfoot’s bold return to the big screen, five friends on a camping weekend in the remote woods of East Texas struggle to survive against a legendary predator that is stronger, smarter, and more terrifying than anything they would have ever believed exists.

The Wrap is reporting that Leprechaun: Origins director Zach Lipovsky has signed on to direct the previously announced Dead Rising film adaptation from Legendary Entertainment and Crackle.

Sony's Crackle will give the 90-minute feature an exclusive digital release in the U.S. before the film receives a multi-platform release on SVOD, VOD, DVD, and TV while Content Media Corp. (Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn) will distribute both feature-length and episodic formats on international platforms.

Dead Rising takes place during a large-scale zombie outbreak. When a mandatory government vaccine fails to stop the infection from spreading, the four leads must evade infection while also pursuing the root of the epidemic -- with all signs pointing to a government conspiracy. Politics, public paranoia, and media coverage will all play a key role in the movie's story.

The script will be written by Tim Carter, who will also produce the film alongside Tomas Harlan under their Contradiction Films banner (the same company that produced Mortal Kombat: Legacy). Lorenzo di Bonaventura (Transformers, G.I. Joe) will executive produce.

Never ones to disappoint, Rock and Shock has just announced the second wave of guests who will be appearing at this year's horror/metal convention. In this round of celebs some new faces are named as well as some Rock and Shock favorites.

Among the newest guests announced are Victoria Price, daughter of the iconic Vincent Price, who will be hosting a special presentation on her father's life. WWE Hall of Famer Rowdy Roddy Piper will be making his triumphant return to Worecester. They'll be joined by Dee Wallace, Jake Busey, Tiffany Shepis, Sarah French, and Joe Knetter.

This line-up joins an already alluring celebrity list that includes John Ratzenberger, Jeffrey Combs, and Brad Dourif among others.

Vincent Price had one of the most distinctive voices in cinematic history. From portraying Roderick Usher in Poe's The House of Usher to performing his famed mid-song monologue in Michael Jackson's Thriller to starring in the original versions of The Fly, House on Haunted Hill and House of Wax, Price's voice quickly became synonymous with horror. Luckily for us, Price passed his incredible linguistic talents onto his daughter Victoria who is carrying on his legacy by becoming a popular public speaker in her own right. Victoria, along with her nephew, musician Jody Price, will be presenting a special one-off retrospective on her father's life and legacy at Rock & Shock 2014. The event will feature a panel presentation, behind-the-scenes pictures and invaluable information on the man behind the magical voice.

In addition to Victoria and Jody Price, Rock & Shock will also be welcoming wrestling legend, podcaster and actor Roddy Piper to their 2014 lineup of guests. The WWE Hall of Famer is best known to horror audiences as the lead in John Carpenter's 1988 film They Live. The 1996 horror-comedy starring Michael J. Fox has gone on to develop a huge cult following with many calling it one of the most underrated horror films of all-time. In addition to The Frighteners, Stone is best known for her roles in E.T., Cujo, The Howling and Critters, while Jake, eldest son of actor Gary Busey, is best known for his performances in Starship Troopers, Enemy of the State and his current role as Professor Aiden Tanner on Robert Rodriguez's "From Dusk Til Dawn: The Series".

Filmmaker Robert Rodriguez’s cult film and El Rey network’s acclaimed supernatural TV series, “From Dusk Till Dawn,” will debut at this year’s event in a new maze designed to thrust guests into its deviant world where they will encounter sordid mythological creatures known as “Culebras,” serpent-like vampires who have tormented the Earth for centuries.

Celebrated Grammy® Award-winning musician, SLASH, hailed as one of the 10 best electric guitar players of all time by Time magazine, is joining forces with Universal Studios Hollywood to compose the first-ever original score for the theme park’s hypnotizing new 3D maze, “Clowns 3D Music by SLASH.”
Other marquee mazes will include, “Dracula Untold: Reign of Blood,” a terrifying new haunted attraction based on Universal Pictures’ upcoming epic action-adventure; “AVP: Alien vs. Predator,” bringing together the most deadly species spawned from two blockbuster films; “An American Werewolf in London,” inspired by Universal Pictures’ Academy Award®-winning film, and “Face Off: In the Flesh,” featuring gruesome characters from Syfy’s hit TV series.

A series of unnerving scare zones will also infiltrate “Halloween Horror Nights,” terrorizing guests as they navigate the darkness from one terrifying maze to another, beginning with “The Purge: Anarchy,” inspired by Universal Pictures’ disturbing blockbuster thriller. “The Walking Dead: Welcome to Terminus” will awaken swarms of predatory walkers in a gruesome scare zone situated adjacent to the new “The Walking Dead” maze.

Additional scare zones will include, “Mask-a-Raid,” featuring hordes of blood thirsty cannibals masquerading as French aristocrats; “Dark Christmas,” a Pagan-themed area where demonic creatures hunt disobedient children and drag them to hell; and “Skullz,” based on the Native American legend of Wendigo, a malevolent supernatural half-beast monster with an insatiable appetite for human flesh.

As a complement to the nighttime event, Universal’s most popular rides and attractions will also be open to guests, including” Transformers: The Ride-3D,” “Jurassic Park—In the Dark,” “The Simpsons Ride” and “Revenge of the Mummy—The Ride.”

“Halloween Horror Nights” dates are as follows: September 19, 20, 26, 27, October 3, 4, 5, 10, 11, 12, 16, 17, 18, 19, 23, 24, 25, 26, 30, 31, and November 1, 2, 2014.

Shane Johnson is highly effective in the title role of The Possession of Michael King. Now the man behind the camera and the story speaks out about the movie. Director David Jung sat down with Dread Central to discuss The Possession of Michael King.

Jung began by discussing his inspiration for writing the story, which he co-penned with Tedi Sarafian. "The Shining played a very important role," Jung said. "I wanted to do a movie from the POV of Jack Torrance, the character Jack Nicholson played."

He explained, "I felt like no one had done that before, had the main character in the film be the one that’s slowly going mad, and documenting and talking about the process in an almost scientific way as it's happening. I love movies about transformation, especially horror films. David Cronenberg’s The Fly is one of my all-time favorite films."

Additionally, Jung talked about creating a demonic force with actor Shane Johnson using very little F/X. "Shane was hands down amazing," Jung said. "We became good friends during the filming and have remained good friends since. He came to the table prepared every single day. He cared about the role. He wanted to spend time with me before we started shooting to really talk about the character, to get into his head. This was a very important movie for me to make, and Shane dug in to do the work to nail the character from the very beginning."

Jung had nothing but praise for his star. "I put him through the ringer on this shoot. We didn’t have a lot of time (19 days to shoot the film!), and there were times on set I would just yell things for him to do and say and he was always ready willing and able, witty, could improvise on his feet, and would continue to bring something to Michael that was above and beyond what I ever envisioned. It was difficult to externalize the internal struggle Michael was going through. A lot of what's happening to him is inside his head. We did as much as we possibly could to bring that out with sound design, but the rest is all Shane."

Of course, horror is all about tension and how well a director can build it. Jung discussed how he built fantastic tension in The Possession of Michael King. "It’s always tough when you’re going into a film named 'The Possession of' something because right off the bat, in the title, you know, or at least have a pretty good idea of, what’s going to happen," Jung said. "We ended up spending less time on the slow burn tension builders and more time on some jump scares. The evil ceremonies were especially fun, at least for me, because unlike most occult-based films where an evil ceremony takes place, and something genuinely scary happens, the outcomes of these ceremonies were somewhat comedic. At least they are at first."

"It’s interesting overall, that when I’ve screened the film with an audience, there tends to be a lot of genuine laughter during the first half, the audience is having fun with Michael, as Michael pokes fun at the people that believe in the supernatural. Then as the film continues, and things get darker, a hush falls across the auditorium, and you can literally feel the nervous tension in the room as people sink deeper and deeper into their seats as they watch this man slowly deteriorate," Jung continued. "That’s the tension I appreciate the most. Not the manufactured jump scares here and there [but] the slow burn of dread that comes over people as they start to realize there’s no way out for this guy, and yes, it’s going to end badly."

Although very little effects work was required to turn Shane Johnson into a demon, plenty of practical effects were used in the film. Jung talked about bringing his grotesque vision to life. "If you have a twisted idea, there’s a person out there that can make it happen; you just need to get out of their way and let them do their thing. We had a great practical F/X guy on the shoot, Jason Collins of Autonymous FX. He LOVES his job, and we had a great time working with him. Some of the set-ups to some of the gags didn't make it into the film. For example, the pentagram Michael slices into his chest. There’s a scene at an occult shop where Michael is learning from the guy that works there about all these different types of black magic. One of the things he learns is that it’s a misconception that the pentagram is evil. It’s actually used for protection from evil spirits. When Michael carves it into his chest in the kitchen, it’s not the demon doing it, it’s actually Michael, trying to protect himself from the demon, which is why the demon forces him to toss the knife, then literally tosses him around the room."

Jung continued, "The idea for this actually came from a really cool photo I stumbled across online. A picture of a guy with a sewn-up pentagram on his chest that was really gnarly, held together with staples and stuff. I thought that it would be cool, that instead of drawing the symbol on himself, he could carve it into his flesh. Michael sticking the needle in his finger came from a larger theological conversation, which used to exist in an earlier version of the script where the demon convinces Michael to start questioning the reality and existence of everyone and everything around him."

Additionally, Jung talked about the ants that haunted The Possession of Michael King. "The CG ant stuff was fun," he said. "I’d never really done anything like that before. Shane had to act like there was an ant on his desk, which wasn’t there. Then he had to pick it up, and watch as it crawled along his finger. Timing is everything for those shots. I wish we had more money. I would’ve had the walls of that house covered with ants by the end of the film!"

Jung concluded with a discussion on some of the unique imagery in the film and where they came from. "The scene with Michael and the TV is one of the first scenes I wrote in the script," Jung said. "I actually shot a test version of that scene, which embodied a much larger conversation between Michael and the demon, which helped secure the financing for the film, and firmly cemented my attachment as a director. Maybe I can post that somewhere someday. It’s a pretty cool scene. The other thing that shooting that scene did was to show people how that scene was going to be shot. I can’t tell you how many people read that scene and had no idea how it was going to work on film, or how I was going to shoot it. We had five cameras working for that scene. The two cameras that Michael wears, his doc camera, the security cam in the room, and the live camera pointed at Michael that shows him on the TV screen. It was one of those scenes that when we shot it, I was the only person on-set that had any real idea of what we were trying to accomplish, and I think that half of the cast and crew thought I was mad!"

Just ahead of the PAX conference, Atari has announced that horror gamers should get ready to relive their childhoods as they are rebooting the classic Alone in the Dark and Haunted House franchises.

Game Informer has reported the two developers behind the new games: Alone in the Dark: Illumination is being made by Pure while Haunted House is in development at Dreampainters, the studio behind the horror game Anna.

To follow the announcement, Atari will be fully unveiling both games at PAX, which takes place August 29th to September 1st. This marks the second time the Alone in the Dark franchise has been rebooted with the last attempt arriving in 2002 to a lukewarm reception.

Both Alone in the Dark and Haunted House will be available later this year on PC. No word has been given on a console version.

She terrified you in The Conjuring, and now it's time to learn where it all began for Annabelle the doll as New Line Cinema releases the official trailer for Annabelle, heading our way in early October.

Capable of unspeakable evil, the actual doll exists locked up in an occult museum in Connecticut—visited only by a priest who blesses her twice a month. New Line's supernatural thriller Annabelle begins before the evil was unleashed.

Scheduled for release October 3, 2014, the film will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment company.

Annabelle Wallis (X-Men: First Class) and Ward Horton (The Wolf of Wall Street) star. Oscar nominee Alfre Woodard (Cross Creek, Twelve Years a Slave) stars as Evelyn, who owns a bookstore and is familiar with the occult. Rounding out the cast are Kerry O’Malley (TV’s “Those Who Kill”) and Brian Howe (Devil’s Knot) as Sharon and Pete Higgins; Tony Amendola (TV’s “Once Upon A Time”) as Father Perez; and Eric Ladin (TV’s “Boardwalk Empire”) as Detective Clarkin.

Annabelle reunites the filmmakers behind 2013’s hugely successful supernatural thriller The Conjuring. James Wan, director of the global hit, is producing Annabelle with Peter Safran. John R. Leonetti, who served as cinematographer on The Conjuring, is directing. Gary Dauberman wrote the script. Richard Brener, Walter Hamada, Dave Neustadter, and Hans Ritter are the executive producers.

Also joining Leonetti behind the scenes are director of photography James Kniest, production designer Bob Ziembicki, editor Tom Elkins, and costume designer Janet Ingram. Joseph Bishara composed the score. New Line Cinema presents an Atomic Monster/Safran Company Production, Annabelle.
