Elijah Wood's production company, SpectreVision, has another project coming our way soon, this time with Jorge Michel Grau (We Are What We Are) and Zodiac Features. That's right, fiends; get ready for what's being referred to as an "anthropological zombie film" in Curse the Darkness.

Deadline reports that Grau is directing from a script by Brandon Maurice Williams, and Zodiac is funding and co-producing the project. The film is set against the backdrop of the Louisiana sugarcane fields and the systematic exploitation of labor and undocumented workers by large corporations.

Wood, Daniel Noah, and Josh C. Waller will produce for SpectreVision. Curse the Darkness begins lensing in October in Louisiana and marks the latest U.S. project for Grau, who also helmed a segment in anthology The ABCs of Death and makes his American feature debut in the upcoming Big Sky, starring Bella Thorne, Kyra Sedgewick, and Frank Grillo.

After the premake of The Thing lots of horror fans wanted to lock Mary Elizabeth Winstead up along with everyone else who botched what should have been a killer flick. Still, it wasn't really her fault, and she's back in a new horror flick, The Cellar.

According to Variety, Winstead is in negotiations to star in Paramount and Bad Robot’s new film which also stars John Goodman. Dan Trachtenberg will direct with J.J. Abrams producing for Bad Robot.

The majority of the movie takes place in an underground cellar and revolves around a young woman who wakes up in the cellar after a severe car accident and fears she has been abducted. Her captor, a doomsday prepper, tells her he saved her life and that there has been a terrible chemical attack that has left the outside uninhabitable. She does not know what to believe, and as tensions rise, she decides she must escape, regardless of the terrors that await outside.

Dan Casey wrote the most recent version of the script. Josh Campbell and Matthew Stuecken penned the original draft.

The 2014 Prime Time Emmy Awards are in the books, and though most of Seth Meyers' jokes fell flatter than Olive Oyl's chest, there were two bright spots for horror fans!

Two of "American Horror Story: Coven's" leads - Jessica Lange and Kathy Bates - each took home Emmy gold for their work as Fiona Goode and Madame Delphine LaLaurie, respectively. Lange nabbed the award for Outstanding Lead Actress In A Miniseries Or A Movie and Bates nailed down the one for Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Miniseries Or A Movie.

"American Horror Story: Coven" certainly ended on a sour note, but there's no doubt that the witchy duo were the hottest thing going during every second that they had on screen. In her acceptance speech Bates seemed pretty pumped for the upcoming "American Horror Story: Freak Show" so here's hoping for good things!

Season 4 of "American Horror Story" features returning stars Jessica Lange as Elsa Mars, Kathy Bates as Effil Darling, Angela Bassett as Desiree Dupree, Sarah Paulson doing double-duty as Siamese twins Bette and Dot Tattler, Evan Peters playing Jimmy Darling, and Emma Roberts as Maggie.

"AHS" newcomer Michael Chiklis stars as Wendell Del Toredo, and also joining the show this season is John Carroll Lynch ("Fargo"), who will play a core villain. Denis O'Hare, Gabourey Sidibe, Jamie Brewer, Frances Conroy, Matt Bomer, Wes Bentley, Jyoti Amge, Finn Wittrock, and Patti LaBelle round out the cast.

"American Horror Story: Freak Show" is set in 1950s Florida and centers around one of the last remaining freak shows of the time. Look for the season premiere on Wednesday, October 8th, at 10:00 pm ET/PT.

Making his video game debut, Anson Mount, best known for his role as Cullen Bohannon in AMC’s 'Hell on Wheels," assumes the role of lead protagonist Sebastian Castellanos. Rounding out the cast is Jennifer Carpenter, well-known for her role as Debra Morgan in the hit Showtime series "Dexter," who plays Juli Kidman, Sebastian’s Junior Detective partner. As part of recently announced Season Pass plans, players will be able to assume the role of Juli Kidman in post-launch content to experience The Evil Within from an entirely new perspective.

A couple of months ago we learned that Lifetime was adapting Stephen King's "Big Driver" short story from his Full Dark, No Stars collection, and now the network has released some stills and revealed the film's premiere date.

From a story by Stephen King, "Big Driver" marks the first collaboration between Lifetime and King. This dark story of a young novelist hell-bent on revenge after falling victim to a brutal crime stars Golden Globe nominee Maria Bello (A History of Violence).

Synopsis:
Another day. Another zombie T-Rex to put down. All part of the routine for Arthur Wallace and MI37—the government department devoted to defending Britain from threats magical, supernatural, extraterrestrial, and generally odd. Except a zombie T-Rex is only the first of the problems about to trample, slavering and roaring, through Arthur's life.

Before he can say, “But didn't I save the world yesterday?,” a new co-director at MI37 is threatening his job, middle-aged Russian cyborg wizards are threatening his life, and his co-workers are threatening his sanity. As Arthur struggles to unravel a plot to re-enact the Chernobyl disaster in England's capital, he must not only battle foreign occult science but also struggle to keep the trust of his team. Events spiral out of control, friendships fray, and loyalties are tested to their breaking point.

There are three movies in the works titled Panda-Saurus, Monster-Zilla, and Atomic Shark; and the most shocking news of all is that neither Syfy nor The Asylum haa anything to do with them.

Though I suspect somewhere Syfy execs are kicking themselves for not thinking of Atomic Shark first.

Let's not waste too much space since each of these TomCat Films productions come complete with a fairly long synopsis.

First up is Monster-Zilla since it is reportedly already in post-production. Despite the "zilla" suffix that typically denotes kaiju-sized monstrosity, the plot to this one sounds very much like something Fred Olen Ray would have made years ago under the title "Jurassic Spring Break."

Two Navy SEALS, Trevor and Doug, are sent to an abandoned island in search of a “package,” but instead of being the hunters, they find they are being hunted. During their escape they come across a camera left in the hands of a dead man. After taking refuge the two men watch what’s on the film and see the story unfold from the point of view of a young man named Garrett, taking in the fun of spring break, along with meeting Garrett’s fellow college age travelers. As the story progresses, we learn more about each of the college kids on break, and that there is a creature on the island that’s big and hungry.

Knowing they’ll have little time on the beach to gather the “package” before possibly being hunted, the Navy SEALS grab up their gear and head out to complete their assignment. Unfortunately, when they hit the beach, the one thing they hadn’t thought about actually happens. The creature has young that are now fully grown and, hunting as a pack, are now after them. A sudden twist takes place when another camera in a secret location shows that Trevor and Doug are being watched from the unseen force that sent them there in the first place. It seems that while the SEALS were watching the video of what happened to the college kids, someone else was watching the SEALS on their own video feed. Perhaps there’s a monster out there far worse than the one’s hunting them.

Things get even sillier with Panda-saurus and I have no problem pulling a Philip J. Frye, waving dollars in the air and yelling, "Take my money!" This promises to be the "bloody cute" tale of what happens when a geneticist decides to Carnosaur a panda bear.

Zoo owners Dr. Jill Sikes and her husband, Dr. Frank, are in the process of trying to have their pandas Juju and Jojo mate and bear offspring, but unfortunately their plans get disrupted. This panda mating was quite important to Jill and Frank; their financial future depended on it. The situation with Juju has brought Frank to turn to an old university acquaintance, Dr. Stella, who has previous experience with breeding animals. Unknowingly to Jill and Frank, Dr. Stella is secretly working on cloning a dinosaur and plans to use Juju as the host; but something goes wrong. A quickly growing mixture of panda and dinosaur, a pandasaurus tears itself free from inside Juju and quickly escapes, hiding itself in the sewer lines of the zoo. It’s not long before patrons in the zoo start turning up dead.

It is up to Dr. Stella and zoo owners Jill and Frank to capture the animal and save their zoo. As they hunt the pandasaurus, it quickly becomes clear that they are in over their heads and that not only do they have a killer pandasaurus on their hands, but one with babies as well. The future of the zoo is no longer the only thing at stake; the future of humanity is as well because should the babies grow to maturity, it won’t be long before man is at the bottom of the food chain.

Last, but certainly not least: Atomic Shark. Less your typical modern creature about a radioactive apex predator, this one is about an attempted coup to assassinate the President of the United States by using sharks to blow up a nuclear submarine. Bet Tom Clancy never thought of that.

In Atomic Shark General Dale “The Charger” Hamilton has an intriguing plan to become the next leader of America. After hiring terrorist Karl Schmidt, the two share an interest in a marine biologist, Dr. Mann, who has created an electronic device that attracts sharks, making them attack anything emitting the signal, even ships or submarines, which is precisely why General Dale and Schmidt are interested in the device, along with a huge 23-foot Great White shark that Dr. Mann has captured.

Knowing the President of the USA is scheduled to christen a new nuclear submarine, General Hamilton has the means to attach Dr. Mann’s invention to the sub. Leaving Schmidt to outfit the Great White with lethal cargo and send it on its mission. All that needs to occur is for the sub to be destroyed, emitting a radioactive cloud that will cover all of Washington, DC, and most of northeastern seaboard, allowing General Dale and his troops to take over the reins of chaos. Controlling the Vice President through blackmail, all that really stands in his way are agents Wilkes and Dorcet, who currently have no idea the deadly mission they’re about to face.

Atomic Shark also wins the award for having the best b-movie poster I've seen a good while. Seriously, I want that poster art framed on my wall ASAP.

So, when can we expect to see these three schlocktacular motion pictures from the company that gave us Metal Man, The Amazing Bulk, and Aliens vs. Titanic? Not soon enough, I say!

The first word on a new sci-fi thriller has landed in our inbox, and here are all the early details on Pivot, written and directed by Ed Gass-Donnelly. Considering no cast members have been announced yet, expect more soon!

Lotus Entertainment announces that Ed Gass-Donnelly (Small Town Murder Songs, The Last Exorcism Part II) will write and direct PIVOT. Lotus’ Jim Seibel and Bill Johnson will produce the film with D.J. Gugenheim and Ara Keshishian of Lotus executive producing alongside Ed Gass-Donnelly.

When a scientist’s loving wife is killed, he invents a device to pivot between parallel universes to save her life, but to be with her, he’ll have to kill the parallel version of himself.

“A high-quality concept like Pivot is exactly the type of project we were looking for,” said Lotus Entertainment’s Bill Johnson and Jim Seibel. “Ed has the perfect approach to bring Pivot to life, and we are eager to embark on our journey.”

Donnelly is known for his hands-on method to film -- often serving as director, producer, writer, and editor. ICM and Jennifer Levine at Untitled represent Donnelly and brokered the deal. Gugenheim will oversee the project for Lotus Entertainment, who will also handle international sales.

Synopsis
Far away from the civilized world, in the deep isolation of the lonely backwoods, Carl Henry Jessup spends his days in twisted contemplation and hazy reverie of the good old days. His contempt for outsiders keeps him close to his hillbilly family home. Carrying on the family business, Carl keeps an eye out for Grade A meat. He can spot the tastiest trespassers from fifty yards away. Fat men and pretty gals are his preference, and he insists on a healthy serving of spicy blood gravy ladled over his dinner plate.

Carl's mama and papa met with gruesome untimely deaths. His love and devotion for his mama and papa leaves him yearning for their return from the grave. In a pact with the demon Sam Bakoo, Carl offers his soul in exchange for the full-fledged reanimation of his parents' rotting corpses. The evil presence of Sam Bakoo drives Carl deeper into a whirlpool of torture, slaughter, vengeance, and delirium. His spirit guide, the angelic Lil' Jessie, warns him that his bloodline is cursed and that Sam Bakoo is not to be tangled with. But it's too late for the beleaguered hillbilly. His life turns sour, and he becomes a tired and vicious shell of a man.

The only remaining faithful and loving presence in his pitiful existence is Rae Lynn, who sees something good in her half-brother. While Carl's out doing his dirty deeds, Rae Lynn comes to his house looking for him. When she enters an unfamiliar back room, she discovers Carl's secret house of horrors. He returns home to find Rae Lynn in his private domain. The depravity she witnesses makes her just another liability. Rae Lynn must escape and fight for her life. Carl is faced with his comeuppance as Sam Bakoo comes to collect his debt. This trippy horror film combines the quiet, forbidding atmosphere that could have been conjured up by a hillbilly David Lynch with an eerie Texas Chainsaw Massacre vibe.

At the end of last year we got word that Traverse Media had acquired the rights to writer-director Travis Romero's Treachery, but then things got quiet. Today the silence ends as the film now has a North American VOD release date.

“I always love playing humanitarian type characters and characters that are the real good guys,” said Biehn with a wink and a nod.

“With an incredible cast, Michael and I were excited to take this story and make it come to life,” added Blanc-Biehn.

Modern technology has made it unnecessary to leave the house (or even the couch for that matter) to order up your choice of cinematic fare. But there was a beauty in the VHS tape. And artist Chris MacGibbon has given some modern faves the VHS treatment.

If you're old enough to remember those trips to the video store, you certainly recall some of the more memorable VHS box artwork.

The unforgettable cover to the Maniac box comes immediately to mind, as does The Texas Chain Saw Massacre with Rex Reed's quote "The most horrifying motion picture I have ever seen" boldly emblazoned on the cover, which featured an image of Leatherface laid over a backdrop of Marilyn Burns' terrified eyes.

A fan of the style himself, MacGibbon decided to give some more recent standout horror films a bit of the ol' VHS magic.

Dig in below and see what MacGibbon came up with. He's designed some fantastic pseudo-covers and even put age on them for more realism. Among the standouts are The Collector, The Descent, Paranormal Activity, and The Strangers; but indeed they are all really well done and will bring all us video store veterans on a trip down memory lane. "The Originals" returns on Monday, October 6th, with its Season 2 premiere; and The CW has released a new trailer promising we'll get back in the fight soon. Check it out, and expect lots more over the coming weeks.

The premiere is titled "Rebirth," and while most of the characters will be trying to start over, the main one we care about, Klaus (Joseph Morgan), only wants one thing: violent, bloody, merciless revenge!

The Wagner/Cuban Company’s Magnet Releasing announced today that they have acquired worldwide rights to SATANIC, a new supernatural teen-horror film currently in script stage.

SATANIC is a co-production with MarVista Entertainment (MarVista) and Circle of Confusion, producers of "The Walking Dead."

SATANIC follows a van full of young, college-aged coeds who are visiting old Satanic Panic-era sites in Los Angeles. They end up following the creepy owner of an occult store home, only to find themselves saving a suspicious girl from an apparent human sacrifice. Only this “victim” turns out to be much more than dangerous then the cult from which she escaped.

Christina Rogers from Magnolia Pictures International will be repping SATANIC at the Toronto Film Festival next month. International rights are available.

SATANIC will be the feature film debut of director Jeff Hunt, a veteran television director with experience on shows such as "Fringe,""Hawaii 5-0,""CSI,""Nikita,""Person of Interest," and "Dark Blue." Anthony Jawinski (Kristy, Vanishing on 7th Street) wrote the screenplay. Michael Moran from MarVista and Lawrence Mattis at Circle of Confusion serve as producers. Executive producing are Stephen Emery at Circle of Confusion, Fernando Szew at MarVista, and Anthony Jawinski.

What's scarier than an evil clown? How about an evil Gingerclown? Or something like that... Anyway, here's a new movie featuring a grease-painted psycho and Tim Curry. That should be enough to keep you reading.

Terrifying nightmares come to life in the thrill ride Gingerclown, arriving on DVD (plus Digital), Digital HD, and Video on Demand November 11 from Lionsgate Home Entertainment. Including a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the film, the Gingerclown DVD will be available for the suggested retail price of $26.98.

When a group of high school kids break into an abandoned amusement park, they come to find it is overrun by monsters. A house of horrors reminiscent of IT, Gingerclown stars Tim Curry (Charlie's Angels), Lance Henriksen (Aliens), Brad Dourif (Halloween), Michael Winslow (Spaceballs), and Sean Young (Ace Ventura: Pet Detective).

Earlier this month Syfy announced its seventh annual "31 Days of Halloween" will be airing in October, and another new film has joined the lineup. Read on for the first details, some behind-the-scenes images, and more for Dead Still.

Syfy presents, in association with Plus Entertainment, Hollywood Media Bridge, Twintalk Entertainment, and Spooked Productions, A Booth Brothers Film, Dead Still, airing on Monday, October 6th. The film was shot on location in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Christopher Saint Booth and Philip Adrian Booth are identical twins who make up the dynamic filmmaking duo of The Booth Brothers. Their previous films include Death Tunnel, The Exorcist File, The Ghosts of Waverly Hills Sanatorium, and Children of the Grave.

Dead Still stars Ben Browder ("Farscape,""Stargate SG1"), Ray Wise ("Twin Peaks,"Jeepers Creepers), Gavin Casalegno (Noah, When the Game Stands Tall), and Elle LaMont ("From Dusk Till Dawn,"Machete Kills).

Synopsis:
Upon the death of his great grandfather, wedding photographer Brandon Davis (Browder) inherits an antique camera famous for taking Victorian death photography. After photographing his subjects, they start to die from horrible, bizarre deaths and then reappear as eerie death portraits.

One by one Brandon begins to lose people very close to him as he struggles to uncover the haunting mystery behind the cursed camera. When his eleven-year-old son goes missing, Brandon discovers the camera has supernatural powers and has trapped his son inside of it. He must now risk all and journey beyond the realm of all imagination to fight the hideous entities within, save his son, and reverse the deadly curse that plagues them before they all become...
