Prometheus and Blade Runner Sequels Have Been Written, Says Ridley Scott

Prometheus and Blade Runner Sequels Have Been Written, Says Ridley ScottNow 76 years old, Ridley Scott is showing no signs of slowing down, with Exodus: Gods and Kings set for release later this year and The Martian in the works for 2015.

But what about the sequels to Prometheus and Blade Runner, which have long been rumored? Well, their arrivals may be closer than you think. Read on!

Per Entertainment Weekly, Scott revealed that the scripts for both sequels have been written, and it's essentially now just a matter of time before he can get around to bringing them to life.

"It’s written and it’s damn good,” Scott said of the Blade Runner sequel. “Of course it involves Harrison [Ford], who is a survivor after all these years. So yes, that will happen.”

The highly anticipated Blade Runner sequel was co-written by Scott, Hampton Fancher and Michael Green. Ford hasn't yet confirmed his involvement.

As far as a sequel to Prometheus is concerned, Scott didn't comment directly on that project, though we do know that Jack Paglen was hired to write the script last year.

I’ve got a lot of ducks in a row," the filmmaker noted. "But they’re all written.”

In a preemptive deal prior to the start of the Toronto International Film Festival, Lionsgate (NYSE: LGF), a premier next generation global content leader, has acquired the North American distribution rights to the apocalyptic thriller Maggie, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger (the Terminator and Expendables franchises, Total Recall, Batman and Robin), Academy Award-nominated Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine, Ender’s Game) and Joely Richardson (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, the hit TV series The Tudors and Nip/Tuck). Claudia Blumhuber and Jim Seibel are executive producers. Silver Reel and Gold Star Films financed the film which Lionsgate plans to release theatrically in North America in early 2015. CAA brokered the deal.

“Maggie” has all the ingredients that spell commercial excitement – a compelling script and an “A” list superstar surrounded by a world-class cast,” said Beeks. “We’re delighted to continue our relationship with Arnold Schwarzenegger, who turns in a performance that marks a dramatic departure from his action persona, and partner with our friends at Lotus Entertainment on a film that will resonate with thriller aficionados everywhere.”

“Lionsgate is a world-renowned brand, and we’re pleased to collaborate with Steve Beeks, Rob Friedman, Patrick Wachsberger and a motion picture team that has established a superb track record with this kind of material,” said Johnson and Seibel. “’Maggie’ takes the zombie genre in exciting new directions, and it offers something for everyone – star power, horror, suspense and riveting performances that will keep moviegoers on the edge of their seats.”

The film tells the story of a deadly zombie virus that has put a plague on the world. 15 Horror Franchises that Helped Define the Face of the Genre

15 Horror Franchises That Helped Define the Face of the GenreThere may be no other genre of film that juggles trends as often and openly as horror. One decade it’s the slasher; one decade it’s the ghost story; the next it’s found footage. The door does and will continue to revolve. That’s not going to change.

Fortunately for fans of this diabolical branch of celluloid, every now and then those shifts come on the heels of a landscape-altering production or the birth of a franchise destined to change the way we view film. We’ve seen movies evolve so much in the last 80-plus years it’s insane.

It’s almost hard to grasp, but it happens. And it often takes career-defining projects and game-changing films to make the shift a reality. Here are 15 horror franchises that enhanced or completely altered the face of horror as we know it.

15 Horror Franchises That Helped Define the Face of the Genre

Alien:
Ridley Scott’s greatest achievement, Alien was one of the most frightening films upon arrival in 1979. It’s still one of the only films guaranteed to toy with sleep patterns. A wonderfully atmospheric piece with evil brooding in every corridor of the Nostromo, Alien was special enough to pave the way for a series of sequels. Aliens shifted gears from mystery to action but proved extremely rewarding. Alien 3 threw everyone for a spin by dropping Ripley in a male-exclusive prison, where creatures of murderous intent once more break free. Even Alien: Resurrection>/i> was a decent film, directed by the extremely talented Jean-Pierre Jeunet. Toss in a really entertaining crossover piece in Alien vs. Predator and a wild tie-in known as Prometheus, and you’ve got a franchise that all fans need. Who doesn’t love the vile Xenomorph, really?

Friday the 13th:
Imagine for a minute Jason Voorhees doesn’t exist. Imagine the hockey mask never became synonymous with slaughter and that machetes didn’t become exponentially more terrifying after 1980. Sean Cunningham created something genuinely special. He helped make a monster that will go down in history as every bit as relevant as Dracula, The Wolf Man or Frankenstein’s Monster. Ten original Friday the 13th films have been made, the majority of which are gratifying in their delivery of bloody boobs and beautiful booties. A crossover film pitting Jason versus Freddy Krueger was also released, and to the surprise of many, it’s a kick-ass flick. And, finally, we’re now seeing the series recycled. Platinum Dunes got behind a killer reboot a few years back that featured a strong cast and the most frightening Jason Voorhees the world has ever seen.

Halloween:
Halloween never needed to be overtly violent or sadistic. It succeeded in issuing scares as a result of intrigue, tension, and the always unexpected. It brought paralyzing horror to American suburbs. Eventually studios put the pressure on and Michael Myers did indeed become a far more grisly killer than the seemingly brainless murderer John Carpenter introduced. The times changed, and viewers expected bloodier scenes from their Halloween films. They got it, but they also got a number of thrilling series pics. Halloween, Halloween II, Halloween III: Season of the Witch, Halloween 4, and Rob Zombie’s interesting inaugural reboot were all impressive pictures. Rumors of a Halloween 3D are swirling, as they have been for years now. Here’s hoping the proposal comes to full fruition and we see this always paralyzing freak stalk more unsuspecting youngsters soon.

MORE Horror Franchises on the NEXT Page!

A Nightmare on Elm Street:
Unfortunately A Nightmare on Elm Street eventually became more parody than straight-shooting horror. The first film is absolutely horrifying. The second adopts a lighter tone but boasts enough uncomfortable scenes (do I really need to point out the S&M scene?) to create a sense of uneasiness. The third piece in the franchise turned the gore up and delivered arguably the most entertaining final product we’ve seen from the franchise, but things began heading downhill the moment the fourth flick arrived. In the numerous pics to see release since, Fred’s gone full comedian, managing to shine only in Freddy vs. Jason and – whether you care to admit it or not – the 2010 remake. I don’t care what anyone says; Jackie Earle Haley is the most frightening Freddy Krueger I’ve ever seen, and I’d jump at the chance to see him approach the role again.

Child’s Play:
Don’t act surprised. You knew I had to squeeze a killer doll series in the mix somewhere. The truth is, when it comes to homicidal plastic, nothing quite trumps the Child’s Play franchise. This is a series we most certainly need, as it offers a slew of different impressions. The first film is more frightening than humorous. Fast forward a few installments and Chucky’s got a kid running around, stunned to discover he may have actually been made in Japan. Next thing we know, Curse of Chucky, the most savage, well-shot and exhilarating picture of the entire lot, arrives and proves that even a half dozen movies into an ongoing story, lightning can strike the same place twice, and magic can indeed experience rebirth.

Hellraiser:
Hellraiser set the bar for gore films. You want to look at an early example of nauseating special effects – primarily practical, might I add – you need look only to Clive Barker’s unbelievably sadistic creation. Pinhead is diabolical. The Cenobites in general truly are the things of nightmares. Hell, these creatures would’ve given Lovecraft a mental breakdown. The Hellraiser franchise has taken a turn for the worse in recent years, but the early films (the first three rank among series favorites for me personally) in this long running fan-adored series are excellent works that will leave you more than a little queasy. A word of advice, which comes from personal experience: Don’t believe your young teenager when they tell you they’re prepared to watch a Hellraiser flick. They’re probably not even close to prepared.

Saw:
The truth is, aside from James Wan and Leigh Whannell’s original Saw film, I’m not a big fan of this series (okay, the bone breaker/torture rack scene in part 3 was damn disgusting and one of the unbelievably rare moments in film which makes me cringe). It’s just a bit too gratuitous for my taste, and the plot seems more transparent with each passing picture. My opinion, however, doesn’t change the fact that there are legions of Saw fanatics (the series has made more than $870 million worldwide at the box office alone) running about. When a flick featuring Jigsaw hits the big screen, the weirdos come out in sizable hordes. Whether it works for me or not, Saw

Phantasm:
Don’t even contemplate trying to convince me a world without the ultra-psychedelic set of films branded Phantasm is a world worth living in. Don Coscarelli’s story is strange, incoherent, confusing, bloated to the point of near eruption... but it’s completely engaging. Most of us fell in love with this quirky story the moment we laid eyes on it. And there’s good reason for that. Phantasm is absurdly charming, and we all want to know what the hell is really going on. You just never know when Don may throw viewers a curveball, and that capricious approach will only continue to squeeze our attention for all its worth.

Abbott and Costello:
Surprised to see Abbott and Costello make the cut? You shouldn’t be. That said, if you’ve been alive less than three or four decades, I can understand how the comedic duo may be completely foreign to you, hence the confusion. If that is the case, I strongly suggest acquainting yourself with their work. These two men set the foundation for comedy in horror. And while the A&C films always worked to blend hokey jokes and pure slapstick humor, the idea that laughs could be injected into very serious stories influenced countless filmmakers. Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein is one of the greatest examples of a game-changing film; Larry Talbot is such a dark, sad, and conflicted character that watching him interact with two of the biggest goobers alive is unique in a way few probably ever could have predicted. Other Abbott and Costello standouts include Abbott and Costello Meet the Invisible Man, Abbott and Costello Meet the Killer Boris Karloff, and Abbott and Costello in Hold that Ghost.

The Dead:
George Romero is a mastermind and a revolutionary. H’s a man bold enough to walk into a minefield all alone and trust his instincts. He is, to a major degree, also the reason we see the insane craze in the zombie subgenre today. Night of the Living Dead was such an alarmingly powerful and monumental film that it started a machine that refuses to subside, let alone stop. The social and political commentary that Romero has always imbued in his pictures sets him apart from a man with heartless motivation. Rather it empowers him to a great extent. We as fans know that George is actually going to tell us something during his stylized gorefests. It may be easily detectable, it may be borderline subliminal, but one way or another he’s going to deliver a thought-provoking message. That makes him special. Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, Land of the Dead, and depending on your feelings about found footage formats, Diary of the Dead rank among the man’s finest Dead productions.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre:
I honestly believe it was the pure grit of Tobe Hooper’s original Texas Chain Saw Massacre that enchanted audiences. I also think it is what kept them coming back. You never know exactly how far a TCSM film go. But it’s in our nature to find a way to know, so we seek these films out, and we watch them, whether we’ve heard they’re amazing or complete trash. Perhaps it’s longtime loyalty to a brand that once left us stunned and repulsed. Perhaps it’s something darker and more sadistic within us that keeps our eyes affixed. Regardless, we’re still here, supporting a franchise birthed 40 years ago. The first two films are great crowd pleasers, the 2003 remake is quite enjoyable, and if you’re up for nothing more than intense violence, checking out The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning may be worth your time.

MORE Horror Franchises on the NEXT Page!

Evil Dead:
People love to associate Evil Dead with riotous comedy. But that’s not an entirely accurate association. The first Evil Dead did deliver some laughs, but it’s also scary as shit. Seriously, watch that one night, around two AM, when your family is out of town and there’s not a single light on in the house. It’s still a little chilling. Fede Alvarez’s remake is also a frightening affair, completely doing away with the laughs. That’s an intense fucking movie, to be blunt about it. But here’s the beauty of it all: The two films sandwiched between the original and the remake, Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness, are loaded with hilarious material. It’s a pressure alleviator, if you will, and when you look at the franchise as a whole, it works perfectly. Sam Raimi is a true mastermind, and I can’t wait to see what’s next.

Jaws:
The film that changed the way we look at oceanic surroundings... Jaws was something that can never again be duplicated. It can be mimicked, it can be mocked, but the terror that this film – and a sequel or so – instilled in masses is something almost unheard of, and we may never see it again on film. The one thing that the Jaws pics have that many others do not is quality character examination. Aside from that final stinker, Jaws: The Revenge, every Jaws film prior placed huge emphasis on the characters. In the first feature Brody, Quint, and Hooper were this completely polarizing trio – and we cared deeply for each and every one of them. In Jaws II we felt Brody’s anxiety, fear, and anger, and we were able to sympathize with a number of the youngsters on the boat (Doug Fetterman still holds a special place in my heart). The last thing we wanted to see out of Jaws 3 was the death of Mike Brody or Kay Morgan. These were characters we cared for, and that shark was the ultimate nemesis to all we cared about... and feared on a very real and primal level.

Paranormal Activity:
There were found footage films that turned heads before the arrival of Paranormal Activity, the most famed of which would probably be Cannibal Holocaust and The Blair Witch Project (there’s also an early underrated flick out there by the name of The Last Broadcast which makes for an entertaining viewing experience). However, Paranormal Activity officially made a trend of the handi-cam flick. After PA1 exploded at the box office, everyone, their mothers, their mothers’ brothers, and their mothers’ brothers’ cousins wanted in on the success. It’s been nothing but found footage after found footage since, and most of these movies owe gratitude to Oren Peli, who truly did make this subgenre certifiably cool. While I enjoyed the first three Paranormal Activity pics, the fourth and The Marked Ones were what I would consider letdowns. But there’s still time to turn things around.

Scream:
Scream, while adored by legions, doesn’t get the level of respect it deserves. The simple fact of the matter is this: Prior to the release of Scream, slasher movies were not only dead, they’d decomposed into nothing but mushy piles of sticky mess and hordes of maggots on the hunt for something still edible. But beyond slashers, horror itself was struggling on its own death bed. People weren’t rushing out to theaters to see horror films. Half of the quality genre pieces to see release in the ‘80s up through the mid-90s never even made it to the big screen. Horror was approaching extinction, and originality was a dismissed notion altogether. Until Kevin Williamson wrote one of the wittiest scripts in history. And Drew Barrymore sacrificed her onscreen life to snag the attention of casuals. And Wes Craven turned out his best film since the first Nightmare pic. And Neve Campbell drove any teenage boy to not-so-dry dreams. Slashers are cool once again, and horror isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, and that’s because of Scream. Thanks, Mr. Craven and Mr. Williamson. I hope you truly understand what you’ve done for horror. If only you’d taken a little more time with Scream 3...

Exclusive Film Blog - Week 3 with Spirit World Films' Creature Feature

Exclusive Film Blog - Week 3 with Spirit World Films' Creature FeatureWe're back with the third installment of Dread Central's exclusive on-the-set coverage from Atlanta for Spirit World Films'Creature Feature, and this week we tackle "How to Reinvent the Indie Wheel... Or Die Trying."

Spirit World is the brainchild of three talented indie trendsetters: Chase Smith, Lance Paul and Edward Boss. These Southerners are turning the game upside down on what the true meaning of indie global films is.

With films budgeted at less than $20k, their combined multi “hat-wearing” skills are proving that you don’t need a giant budget nor a Hollywood soundstage to create cult classics.

Creature Feature is comprised of four short vignettes and one overall story that connects them all, similar to classics such as Creepshow and Trick 'r Treat.

Do clowns scare you? Have you ever looked at a scarecrow and wondered, "What if?" Are zombies or naked witches your thing? Or what about a good ole classic such as a werewolf? Have you ever heard of Gentleman “Springed Heel” Jack? If not, you will come October 2015!

How to Reinvent the Indie Wheel... Or Die Trying

As indie filmmakers in a world full of carbon copies, how do you differentiate your project from one indie horror film to the next? It seems like everyone with some Benjamins in the bank or a blank credit card just waiting to be maxed out are buying a Red Epic or flying drones yelling to the four corners that they make movies. But what can make you special in this indie world? Especially filming out of Atlanta, GA, where it seems like indie films are a dime a dozen.

This is one thing it seems Spirit World is taking into account when they create their films. Be it changing up the found footage method with Realm of Souls using a mix of not only found cameras but also theatrical horror methods mixed with creative use of GoPros or taking a Thriller and giving it the Horror wash with Perdition. To be a true Indie filmmaker like the legends before you, you have to be a trendsetter that breaks new ground or asks what if?

Success in any field takes not only having a passion for your craft but also learning and studying the history of who came before you. We don’t buy movies for the fun of re-watching them. Don’t get me wrong; who hasn’t seen John Carpenter’s Halloween a 100x’s for the fun of it? But no, we watch films and their special features to figure out how these classics became classics. How did they do what they did to get there? What made them original?” Lance Paul (Partner, Artist, Co-Creator)

This is exactly what they are doing with Creature Feature. Being such huge fans of Michael Dougherty’s Trick 'r Treat and Stephen King's Creepshow, the boys from Atlanta wanted to pay homage to those great vignette films but also add their own personal flair. During pre-production on a film called Marked, production starts in 2016, Chase and Lance played with the idea of going from live action to comic art and then popping into live action again. Trick 'r Treat used a similar concept for their opening and later close of the movie, plus Lance had worked as a comic artist and storyboard artist when he first came to Los Angeles. This idea came about when they were filming a short film to help raise money for Marked. This short, all shot in black and white, tells the story of a group of girls who just trusted the wrong door to door salesman with a smile. As you watch their short you will see the film go from live action to illustration. You can view it below:

Fans loved what they did with this so much they felt like they were on to something.

So when contract negotiations with a lead star for Marked took longer than they should have, the boys decided to move forward on Creature Feature. Creature Feature was originally a project that was still in development stages and had a much bigger working budget. After the positivity they received combining live action and illustration, they decided to take it a step further. Deciding to combine not only their love of movies but also comics, the true Creature Feature began. While watching CF you will see the films vignette go from live action and then from a freeze frame to a comic page as the story is told. Then once that page is done it will pop back to live action to continue the next vignette.

Lance Paul (Partner, Artist, and Co-Creator) was kind enough to give Dread Central and all you horror fans a glimpse of what they have in store for this creative horror. These comic covers and panels will be spread throughout the whole film as the vignettes and victims play out. Be it little girls reading CF comics in the clown story or the comics playing a part throughout the horror vignettes, they will definitely play a prominent part in the movie. Both Chase and Lance figured this could be a great way to have their film stand alone but also save on budget. Why spend the money showing a werewolf transformation when you can show the before and after and then do the change in beautiful panel art?

Creature Feature

Creature Feature

His goal, as you can see from the samples he shared with us, was to draw from some of the horror comics of the 50’s. As a child Lance’s comic collection was limited to the allowance a normal child of the late 80’s and 90’s was allocated, which meant hardly nothing, and the local comic shop was almost paying you to take their stockpile of worthless classic horror comics. Years later when work first started on Creature Feature, it sounded like the perfect time to whip those dog-eared beauties out and draw influences from them.

Once you view Creature Feature in theaters later next year, you will not only be treated to a creative monster vignette movie courtesy of Director Chase Smith but also an in-movie comic book that will pop up throughout the movie, live action that will jump to comic panels to tell some of the story and then jump back, and also a released graphic novel using the same panel art from the movie but also adding to the story you will already love.

These creative horror buffs in Atlanta sure are rewriting what it takes to make indie movies! Who needs loads of money? Give these guys a camera and a pencil and away they go!!

The Werewolf

What monster movie isn’t complete without a werewolf? When writing the script for Creature Feature, this was definitely a monster Chase wanted to make sure was included. As a young child Chase and Lance were both huge fans of American Werewolf in London and Lon Chaney’s Wolf Man from the classic Universal Horror films. Chase wanted to really delve deep into a combination of them both when he was writing the vignette for the Werewolf. In the story a couple of party animals more focused on drinking and having sex force some younger teenagers away by daring them to go break into the local legend in town's house and steal something. Years previously old man Chaney’s family was brutally murdered with him being the sole survivor of the massacre. Ever since the town had ostracized him to his secluded mansion thinking that he had a hand in the murders. Little do these kids know but breaking in to this house rouses more than a cankerous old man's anger.

Creature Feature

Once the story was complete, the fun began. Creating a werewolf for movies had always been a dream of Lance and Chase's. When Lance went into the initial concept development stage he wanted to definitely use the classic wolf man Chase had in mind as a springboard but also mold him for their story. At the setting of the story this isn't a wolf in his prime, this is a wolf grizzled and marked by the death of his pack. Aged by the years and stress of living secluded Spirit World Films aged their Werewolf into a silver-backed beast. So when you see him change and come after the teenagers, their goal was to create compassion for him by his look and his actions. Through the development stages Lance and then later Alex Michael Petty (Bunyip) kept this in mind when fashioning and fabricating his prosthetics and look.

The werewolf’s look actually went through a couple different stages as production started rolling. Due to some issues with prosthetic houses in Europe some of the Wolf had to be fabricated by Alex, which in the end helped create a truly original work of art. Also the wolf’s story had some of the most gruesome and creative deaths throughout the whole picture. Going through the process of killing our six young dumb kids relied heavily on Alex’s trained team of MUA’s and fabrication shop. The most gruesome actually involved a local instagram celebrity actress Libby Blanton (22 Jump Street). Through her scene the werewolf eviscerates her, which involved 4 hours of makeup and over 10 different prosthetics plus one blood gag to get the right look.

With a location set in Buford, GA in a 100+-year-old house, SW set about turning this old pecan plantation house into the weathered and dilapidated old house for their poppa Werewolf. Like the previous article before, these creators really like to ball on a budget and go all out. Little will you expect that a majority of their locations worked out as free or very near it.

Next week we will have a glimpse of their final Vignette Creature, the Scarecrow! Plus the monster behind the monster, the dreaded Springed Heel Jack. Stay tuned for more from Spirit World Films and enjoy all the behind-the-scenes pictures and art.

See the Opening Scene from Tricia Lee's Silent RetreatNext month Canadian fiends will have a chance to check out creature feature Silent Retreat via Black Fawn Distribution. Meanwhile, the rest of us can check out the flick's opening scene right now!

After taking home the prize for Best Canadian Feature at last year’s Toronto After Dark Film Festival, Silent Retreat will be released on Canadian DVD through Black Fawn Distribution on September 2, 2014.

Directed by Tricia Lee, one of the strongest female voices in Canadian horror today, and starring Chelsea Jenish and Sofia Banzhaf, Silent Retreat is ultimately about women finding their voice and refusing to be silent, a theme that resonated with Lee while developing the film. With Silent Retreat, written by Corey Brown, Lee added her own spin to the genre: strong female characters combined with an emotionally resonant theme and classic horror imagery.

The Silent Retreat DVD will include a behind-the-scenes featurette, director and writer commentary, and trailers for the film. As part of an exclusive pre-order offered through Black Fawn's web store, Silent Retreat will be released in a limited edition red case with the first 100 copies hand-numbered and signed by director Tricia Lee.

Synopsis
Following an assault charge, in order to avoid jail time, Janey Andrews (Jenish) is sent to a remote rehabilitation centre run by an ominous doctor (Robert Nolan) and his two sons. Janey is instructed to follow the rules of the retreat without question: No talking. No eye contact. No interaction of any kind.

It doesn’t take long for her to realize that something sinister is taking place, and with the help of a fellow inmate named Alexis (Banzhaf), the girls attempt to flee. However, despite the doctor’s deplorable motives, Janey soon discovers that something much more dangerous lurks just beyond the trees.

For more info, including pre-order links, visit the official Black Fawn Distribution website, "like"Black Fawn Distribution on Facebook, and follow Black Fawn Distribution on Twitter.

New Trailer Enters the House of Manson

New Trailer Enters the House of MansonFour decades removed from the Tate murders, Charles Manson is one of those names that are entirely too capable of sending many a shiver down the spine. On tap right now we have the trailer for the latest film to explore his madness, Brandon Slagle's House of Manson. Check it out!

From the Press Release
House of Manson chronicles Charles Manson's life from childhood up until his arrest following the raid on Barker Ranch months after the infamous Tate/LaBianca murders that sent a shockwave not just through Los Angeles but throughout the entire world.

The film was written and directed by Brandon Slagle, who was recently deemed the "go-to-gore-guy" by The Hollywood Reporter during their coverage of the European Film Market. While not a "gory" film, House of Manson is poised to take a more intense approach to the subject matter than previous film and TV iterations have. The film was produced by Britt Griffith (Syfy's "Ghost Hunters"), who also produced Slagle's previous directorial effort, the dark creature feature Dead Sea.

Actor Ryan Kiser (Truth or Dare) stars as Charles Manson, having previously played the role in the acclaimed short film "Lie." Rounding out the cast are Reid Warner (Oren Peli's Area 51) as Tex Watson, Chriss Anglin (Call of Duty: Black Ops) as Ronald Hughes, Devanny Pinn (The Black Dahlia Haunting) as Susan Atkins, Serena Lorien as Patricia Krenwinkel, Erin Marie Hogan (Paranormal Entity) as Linda Kasabian, Suzi Lorraine (Music and Lyrics) as Sharon Tate, and Tristan Risk (American Mary) as Abigail Folger as well as Julie Rose, Adrian Quihuis, Mel Turner ("Deadliest Warrior"), Jason McNeil, Ryan Cleary, Keith Kraft (Beowulf), Trish Cook (Dark Tide), Tawny Amber Young, Max Wasa, Darius Devontaye Green, and many more.

Charles Manson has been a hot topic as of late due to NBC's upcoming TV series "Aquarius" starring David Duchovny, the recent 45th anniversary of the Tate and LaBianca murders, a new New York Times bestselling book about Manson's life, as well as the recent engagement announcement to his 26-year-old girlfriend.

House of Manson will debut later this year.

Two Clips from The Dead 2 Rise from Their GravesThe Ford Brothers' eagerly awaited sequel to their film The Dead, entitled The Dead 2 (aka The Dead 2: India), is on its way to Blu-ray and DVD courtesy of Anchor Bay, and we have two new clips for you to chew on.

About The Dead 2
Two years ago filmmakers Howard J. Ford and Jon Ford took international audiences on an unforgettable journey through a zombie-infected African veldt with the critically acclaimed and audience favorite The Dead.

Setting a new standard for the zombie film, the Ford Brothers have now raised the survival stakes to new dramatic heights with the September 16th Blu-ray and DVD release of The Dead 2.

As demonstrated with screenings at numerous international film festivals, audiences around the world have once again thrilled to the Ford Brothers’ unique vision of the zombie apocalypse, taking it to yet another epic level. And just as with the first film, reviewers are bestowing glowing praise on the filmmakers’ ability to transform an exotic environment into a vital character within the character-driven narrative. The first international zombie film production to be shot in India, The Dead 2 utilizes the spectacular vistas of Rajasthan, Delhi, and Mumbai to create yet another unforgettable journey into the heart of darkness baked in sunlight. SRP for the Blu-ray is $29.99 and $24.98 for the DVD.

A ship docks fresh from Somalia, which contains one infected worker that passes unnoticed into the very heart of India’s overpopulated bustling streets, setting off an unstoppable chain of events. Meanwhile, American turbine engineer Nicholas Burton (Joseph Millson, Casino Royale) is working in the stark yet tranquil Indian countryside when he receives a call from his love, Ishani (Meenu), a local girl who lives on the outskirts of the slums of Mumbai and who has hidden their relationship from her tradition-minded father. She reveals she is now pregnant and scared for her life as chaos and terror have taken ahold of the cities as the dead return to life and attack the living. Nicholas has to battle his way across their 300-mile landscape filled with flesh-eating – and infectious – undead. With the help of young street kid Javed (Anand Goyal), he has to rely on his wits and sheer brute force to try and save them all, as the clock ticks off the minutes before the last flight out of a living hell...

Bonus features on The Dead 2 Blu-ray and DVD include "The Making of The Dead 2" and deleted scenes.

Unfolding across an epic vista of breathtaking scope, thrilling action, death-defying stunts, and spine-chilling fright, yet always keeping the emotional resonance in focus, The Ford Brothers’ The Dead 2 once again melds the terror of the end of the world with the inspiration of the human drive to survive.

10th Annual Johnny Ramone Tribute with Rob Zombie; See Our Photo Gallery and More

10th Annual Johnny Ramone Tribute with Rob Zombie - Photo Gallery and MoreWith nearly 3,000 fans in attendance, Dread Central hit this past Sunday’s 10th Annual Johnny Ramone Tribute at Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles, CA, and we got an eye and earful. Read on for our report, photo gallery, and a video clip from the event.

The show was hosted by musician/filmmaker Rob Zombie and his band, who played a blistering five-song set of Ramones tunes set inside the facility’s Masonic Temple, which included "Blitzkrieg Bop,""Rock 'n' Roll High School,""Beat on the Brat,""Lobotomy," and Motörhead's tribute song to the same, "R.A.M.O.N.E.S."

With the show simulcast on the cemetery’s mausoleum wall to the throng of music fans who picnicked on the grass outside, Zombie’s set was followed by a jam session made up of guitarist Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols, Duff McKagan of Guns N’ Roses, singer Billy Idol, and actor Fred Armisen with Zombie drummer Ginger Fish handling the back-beat. Actress Traci Lords introduced the "All-Star" group to an enthusiastic crowd.

“We're here for one reason and one reason only - to pay tribute to our good friend Johnny Ramone,” said Zombie of the event to those gathered. “I miss him every day. He was a wonderful, kind guy. There was nobody like him.”

Zombie then went on to relate the story of the creation of the statue of the Ramones guitarist which stands within the cemetery (the punk musician’s grave is regularly visited by fans), and it proved quite humorous and rather touching (see the clip below).

The festivities also included Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett's rare collection of horror movie memorabilia. Rarely seen in public, the collection (then on display in the cemetery’s mausoleum) included a treasure trove of movie posters, props, toys, and costumes from his personal collection. Musician and effects artist Joe Petro, responsible for the restoration of many of the props, was on hand to oversee.

Also in attendance, in addition to Johnny’s surviving spouse Linda Ramone, were Sheri Moon Zombie and fellow Devil’s Rejects actors Leslie Easterbrook, Diamond Dallas Page, Danny Trejo, Sid Haig, Bill Moseley, and Brian Posehn, who engaged in an audience Q&A following the live concert, which preceded a screening of the Rob Zombie-written and directed film (Johnny Ramone was a fan of the film).

Our thanks to Senior Editor of Rock N Roll Industries Magazine Angelica Ulloa for assisting in our coverage and event sponsor Stillhouse Spirits for keeping us warm as day turned to night.
