Reaper Comics will release a hardcover collected edition of its universally praised horror comic series Video Nasty on October 15th, and the collection's artwork, by acclaimed artist Graham Humphreys, has been revealed.

The title that debuted in March of this year to praise from news and review sites, horror movie creators, and media academics will be collected into a premium edition hardcover as well as a VHS boxset with cover art by horror industry icon Graham Humphreys.

Video Nasty, written by Mario Covone with interior art by Vasilis Logios, explores the real world politics behind government censorship and media manipulation in 1980's Britain whilst still maintaining the core of being a fictional horror story.

Humphreys, responsible for producing the art for many classic horror movie posters and VHS/DVD/Blu-ray covers, made his comic book debut with Video Nasty. He painted all six original covers for the series and now unveils the seventh piece of art that will grace the covers of the collected editions.

The aforementioned VHS boxset will contain a smaller videotape-sized paperback and several collectable postcards, stickers, and a bookmark, all packaged in a VHS clamshell box and limited to only 100 pieces.

Synopsis:

THE STORY OF TRICK 'R TREAT
Although never released in theaters, Trick 'r Treat, the directorial debut of Michael Dougherty that stars Dylan Baker, Anna Paquin, Leslie Bibb, and Brian Cox, became a cult classic through its release on DVD, digital platforms, and extensive play in festivals. Additionally, the film received rave reviews for its originality and ambition. The passage of time has not diminished the fan fervor for this horror classic, which continues to achieve a life of its own with each new technology but has never been seen in theaters – until now.

Dougherty’s story takes place in a small Ohio town on All Hallows' Eve, where four interwoven tales - including a high school principal who moonlights as a vicious serial killer, a college-age virgin who's saving herself for that special someone, a woman whose hatred of Halloween is only exceeded by her husband's love of the mischievous holiday, and a callous group of teens who carry out an unforgivably cruel prank – deliver the kind of chills that can only occur on the darkest day of the year.

When the Ford Brothers made their highly unusual zombie movie The Dead and shot it on location in Africa on 35mm film, they made quite a splash in the bloodbath. Reviews were gushing, and so was fan response. Naturally a sequel is heading our way, in two weeks to be exact!

This time around it’s set in India, and again the Fords, co-writers/co-directors Howard and Jon, shot on location and used locals and local actors in naturalistic settings.

The story follows a migrant American worker who is desperately struggling to get from the barren boonies into Mumbai, where his pregnant Hindi girlfriend waits, while everyone else is trying to run from the zombie plague in the opposite direction.

If you think the terrain looks dangerous and the people a little scary… it’s because they were! As the Brits were filming their movie, they were under constant harassment. Jon told us, “We had stones, branches, cow shit, and even dogs thrown at us. One time we went to a village on the edge of the desert which was populated only by women, and in a bizarre Monty Python-ish way we suddenly got stoned! Unfortunately, we're not talking about cannabis here. This was a proper medieval stoning. Luckily we can all run pretty fast, but shit, those rocks hurt!”

They had to herd dozens and dozens of extras in full zombie regalia, and that would be hard enough on its own, but few of them spoke English, and none of them knew what the classic “zombie shuffle” was. Howard said, “They never even heard of George Romero. In fact, we asked them, and I don't think we met one person that had seen a zombie film. We made the first international zombie movie in India. There are a couple local zombie movies in India; one is sort of a dance routine thing, but it’s not in their culture. So consequently, all the extras were trained. Most had no clue at all what we were doing. In fact, it was impossible to get shots of them because they just thought it was ridiculous and were laughing. It was a nightmare. There is so much footage we tried to get that we could never, ever use because they would never take it seriously. They didn't know the ‘zombie move.’ We had to train every single extra. It took so much time and so much energy to do.”

One of the most frustrating things was the language barrier. As Howard explains it, “We met a lot of actors and people we worked with on the film -- certainly those with nonspeaking roles -- who didn't speak any English at all. We had to go through translators, which makes it very difficult to get people to do the exact things that you want. It's an incredibly frustrating process. I would say both The Dead films have been frustrating in that way.”

Still, it’s not as bad as some of the ordeals the actors had to endure. “On one occasion,” Jon told us, “one of the actresses was sexually molested on her way to the auditions! Yeah, I know! In Hollywood they at least wait until they get there. (Sorry, I couldn't resist that one.)”

Though the brothers are quite happy with their cast, it was an arduous process to find just the right people. “It was much harder than we thought it was going to be. There are a lot of movies made in Bollywood,” said Howard, “so we thought we would get people very, very easily. As it turned out, it was actually harder than we realized. At one point we were like, ‘Let’s get a well-known Bollywood actor.’ They were impossible to get to, and the idea of doing a zombie movie was very, very alien to people so I think people didn't really quite trust what we were up to. In the end we started casting out of film schools. We had to cast people who could speak English clear enough [for English-speaking audiences]. That wasn't easy so we were very limited as to who we could get.”

Wow. And Werner Herzog thought he had it tough on Fitzcarraldo. Give these guys a pat on the back, and see The Dead 2 (review) when it comes out in September 16th!

Synopsis
Following an assault charge, in order to avoid jail time, Janey Andrews (Chelsea Jenish) is sent to a remote rehabilitation centre run by an ominous doctor (Robert Nolan) and his two sons. Janey is instructed to follow the rules of the retreat without question: No talking. No eye contact. No interaction of any kind.

It doesn’t take long for her to realize that something sinister is taking place, and with the help of a fellow inmate named Alexis (Banzhaf), the girls attempt to flee. This one is... strange. I mean, we specialize in strange with The Gasp Menagerie, but this is just really strange. It'd fall under cryptozoology, I suppose. But... really... has anyone looked seriously for faerie folk since the Victorian days of England?

This story comes from Linda Moulton Howe's Earthfiles. Now, Moulton Howe seems like a very nice lady, but it has to be said: Sometimes she hits the crazy-sauce pretty hard. Some of her work is extremely revealing, fitting her background as a mainstream investigative journalist. Some of it... well, let's be nice and say it's not quite as believable.

This would fall into that latter category if it weren't for the photo evidence that goes with the story. These files have been examined by experts, and no evidence of editing has been found. As far as we can tell, these are photos of what was in front of the camera when the owner says they were taken.

They show... a gnome. A real, live gnome. Not some dwarf in a cute outfit, either. These shots depict a moving, living, impossible creature. Tiny, spindly legs; pointy head or hat; about three to four feet in height... it's a fricking gnome, people. It fits what you could imagine inspiring our traditional view of a garden gnome, which is what makes it so convincing. It's not a statue come to life; it's something you could understand inspiring the more anthropomorphic version of gnomes we've seen for generations.

I can usually spot a hoaxed cryptozoological photo a mile away. Years of study in the field does that for you. This one, believe it or not, passes the sniff test. It moves and changes configuration like a living creature. It's behind leafy brush far enough away from the camera to prove it isn't an insect or a miniature close to the camera using forced perspective. The cam recorded the time taken, and the photos are too close together to account for posing a model.

It also passes the psychological examination: Why fake this? If you're going to, why fake it this way? Why not make it more easily identifiable as man's idea of a garden gnome? It's so abstract, it defies explanation as a hoax.

I've got nothing. I've been wracking my brain trying to explain this thing away, and as far as I'm concerned, it seems likely there's a gnome wandering around the Pennsylvania forests. I also suddenly want a large amount of liquor.

At Sony’s pre Tokyo Games Show press conference, a release date was finally announced for one of Sony’s biggest upcoming exclusives, Bloodborne. The game will be released on February 5th, 2015, exclusively on the PlayStation 4.

February 5th falls on a Thursday, which alludes to this date being the Japanese only release. With games in North America typically being released on Tuesdays and occasionally Fridays, look for another date to be revealed soon.

Bloodborne is the next game by From Software, the creators of the Dark Souls and Demon’s Souls franchises. Both series are known for being extremely challenging and possessing punishing combat that heavily focuses on defensive maneuvers.

From Software has re-tooled the combat for Bloodborne to be more offensive focused in the hopes of giving the game a broader, mainstream appeal. This release news adds another game to an already stacked February lineup, which is set to feature Dying Light, The Witcher III: The Wild Hunt, and Sony’s other blockbuster exclusive The Order: 1886.

America's best horror-punk band, Grave Robber, has been asked by Canada's "Feed the Children" campaign to compose the theme song for the new "Hunger Haunts" program. Getting a jump on the Halloween season, the song and a lyric video have been released!

The Hunger Haunts program is a series of sponsored commercial haunted attractions during this year's Halloween season to raise money and awareness for hungry kids.

The "Hunger Haunts" track will be used for radio and TV commercials as well as online to promote the program. While there's not much at the official link right now, the site will be updated soon with tons of info about what houses support the program.

In the meantime, Grave Robber is putting the finishing touches on its next full-length album, Straight to Hell, due to be released via iTunes and most other online download sites on October 7th. "Hunger Haunts" will also be included on that release from Rottweiler Records. A physical vinyl record is also planned for all you analog waxheads out there.

For now, kick off the spooky season right with a fast dash of punchy punk and a dose of creeps by watching the official video right now!

One of I, Frankenstein's biggest sins was that the creature effects, especially with regard to Frankenstein's monster, were pretty run of the mill. Back in the beginning effects artist Vincent J. Guastini had the reins of this bad boy, but unfortunately it was steered out of his hands.

Now Guastini has uploaded an effects/concept reel of what his vision for the film's creatures would have been like. Gotta say it... we like it so much better. What a shock. Check it out for yourselves, and weigh in below.

Universal’s dramatic horror movie tells the origin story of the most famous of vampires. Michael De Luca is producing the project, and commercials helmer Gary Shore is making his directorial debut on the picture.

Look for it in theaters October 17, 2014.

Synopsis
Luke Evans is starring as the most famous of vampires in an origin story that sees a Transylvanian prince risk eternal damnation in order to save his wife and son from a Turkish horde. Barks plays a figure in Eastern European folk tales known as a baba yaga, a beautiful young woman who turns into a savage witch. Kristjansson is Bright Eyes, an Eastern European taken as a slave as a young boy and now a vicious assassin in the Ottoman Army. Parkinson portrays Dracula’s son, named Ingeras.

During Sony’s pre-TGS press conference Capcom invited gamers to take a twisted step back to their zombie infested childhoods by officially unveiling two Resident Evil games set to receive the remastered treatment in 2015.

Both the original Resident Evil and Resident Evil Revelations 2 will be coming to the PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.

The remastered version of Resident Evil had been announced previously, but at the press conference Capcom gave fans their first look at the HD version with a brand new trailer, showcasing its updated graphics. It even gives a brief glance at one of the game’s most terrifying monsters, the giant snake.

Resident Evil is set to be released in early 2015.

Capcom followed up with another precise strike via the official announcement of Resident Evil Revelations 2. The game was recently leaked online, but today marked its official announcement, and it was accompanied by the game’s first teaser trailer. The trailer features a small girl running through a party, but as the camera moves, the partygoers become zombies. The trailer leaves the viewer with one final warning: “Evil is watching.”

Evil can expect gamers to watch it over and over very closely as Resident Evil Revelations 2 is set to be released sometime in 2015.

Legendary Entertainment and YouTube Spaces have announced the YouTube Spaces House of Horrors: A Legendary Halloween initiative; and along with more details, we have an introductory video from Guillermo del Toro and some concept art.

From September 22 through October 28, 2014, YouTube creators will write, shoot, and edit their scariest videos at the YouTube Spaces. As well as appearing on individual creator channels, all content will appear on the YouTube Spaces channel and the official Legendary YouTube channel and be promoted through social media platforms. Videos are slated to go live between October 21 and Halloween.

In celebration of his return to horror with the upcoming Crimson Peak, master of ceremonies Guillermo del Toro will select his scariest videos to come out of each region and provide a personal rough-cut creative consultation with the creators.

The program’s finale will see Legendary offer one lucky YouTube creator a development deal to realize the full potential of their idea.

The effort is part of YouTube Spaces’ tent-pole programming initiative that furthers the Spaces’ mission to bring together the most creative people in the world around celebrated cultural events.

About the Sets:
The Guillermo del Toro-inspired sets vary by Space but may include a Great Room from an old manor house lined with walls of books, a sinister staircase, and Gothic windows that lead out to a haunted garden; a room filled with exotic and occult artifacts from around the world; an abandoned Solarium cluttered with over-grown plants, birdcages, and weathered tools; and a claustrophobic Attic with foreboding art, dusty mirrors, and a hidden trap door.

A new trailer has been released for Don Thacker’s sleeper festival hit MOTIVATIONAL GROWTH (starring genre legend Jeffrey Combs). The film will hit VOD worldwide on September 30th (via Devolver Films and Indiecan Entertainment in Canada), Blu-ray and DVD in Canada on the same date, and DVD in the US the following week (via Parade Deck Films) on October 7th.

In Motivational Growth, Ian Foliver (Adrian DiGiovanni), a depressed and reclusive man in his 30s, finds himself taking advice from a growth in his bathroom after a failed suicide attempt. The Mold (Re-Animator star Jeffrey Combs), a smooth talking fungus born of the filth in a neglected bathroom, works to help Ian clean himself up and remodel his lifestyle. The Mold has big plans for Ian, but they may not be as innocent as they seem. A labyrinthine narrative follows, full of colorfully-drawn characters and gruesome body horror. “The Mold knows, Jack. The Mold knows.”

The DVD release will include a commentary track (with actors Jeffrey Combs and Adrian DiGiovanni and director Don Thacker), a photo gallery, and trailers. The Blu-ray edition will also include an hour of behind-the-scenes material.

Are you a fan of Netflix's "Hemlock Grove?" Yes? So YOU'RE the one! Well, we've got some bad news for you, sunshine! Netflix announced today that the series will conclude in 2015 with a third and final season.

The Netflix Original Series "Hemlock Grove," from Gaumont International Television, a riveting and eerie mystery from executive producer Eli Roth and based on Brian McGreevy’s novel of the same name, has been picked up for a third and final season. Showrunner Charles H. (Chic) Eglee will return for the ten-episode final season, which is slated to premiere on Netflix in 2015.

The second season launched on Netflix in July 2014 to a tremendous outpouring from fans. In the second season, the town of Hemlock Grove continued to come to grips with the shocking massacre incurred by one of its deadliest creatures. Roman (Bill Skarsgård) and Peter (Landon Liboiron) faced new responsibilities and the realities that come with adulthood. Roman struggled with his relationship with his mother (Famke Janssen) as he wrestled with his unwanted Upir birthright and the disappearance of his sister, Shelley (Madeleine Martin). Peter moved in with Destiny (Kaniehtiio Horn) and was forced to get a job after his mother was sent away. Meanwhile, in search of a new life, newcomer Miranda Cates (Madeline Brewer), embarked on Hemlock Grove with an unknowingly profound effect on Peter and Roman. And Norman (Dougray Scott), still reeling from the loss of his family, faced the harsh truth about those he loved.

We told you a bit back that IFC Midnight has acquired distribution rights to Seth Grossman's horror flick Inner Demons, and now we have a new one-sheet for you. Substance abusers need not look. Unless of course you're hungry for your horror fix!

Synopsis:
An "Intervention"-style reality show crew films an episode about a sixteen-year-old girl, a former A-student who is fighting addiction but may in fact be suffering from something even more destructive: demonic possession.

The movie is an inquiry into the truth about her – with symptoms that straddle the disturbing and form a scary intersection between insanity, addiction, and true possession.

WellGo USA will be releasing Dead Snow 2: Red vs. Dead (review) in theaters on October 10, 2014, and right now we have another brand new one-sheet to share with you cats that's unfortunately nowhere near as good as the last.

The film is directed by Tommy Wirkola, who helmed Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, and stars Norwegian actor Vegar Hoel as Martin, the sole survivor of the first Dead Snow’s zombie bloodbath. Martin Starr, currently of HBO’s "Silicon Valley" fame, co-stars alongside Hoel and Norwegian actor Orjan Gamst, who plays the evil zombie warlord Herzog.

While an obvious homage to classic zombie movies like Evil Dead and Braindead, Dead Snow introduced a new element to the genre by giving the dead zombies an agenda. Dead Snow 2: Red vs. Dead takes things even further, giving the world's favorite monsters not just a Nazi agenda but a desire for revenge.

Synopsis
They're not just zombies. They're Nazi zombies. And there's a lot of them. On the orders of a rotten Führer, the zombies from Dead Snow return to settle old German scores. In the continuation of the epic splatterfest from 2009, Martin, the sole survivor of the first movie, prove that there's more badass shit in Northern Norway than even Nazi zombies would be prepared for.
