It’s Playtime in the Official Trailer for Daniel Ray’s Heidi

0

Daniel Ray's HeidiDaniel Ray dropped us a line with an update regarding the world premiere of Heidi at the PollyGrind Film Festival and also let us know its official trailer has arrived.  Check it out right here along with the PollyGrind details and a bit more about Ray’s inspiration for the killer doll at the center of his new film.

The movie’s premiere date has been moved to Thursday, October 16th, at a much larger venue, Galaxy Theatres Green Valley in Las Vegas, Nevada.

In case you’re wondering who came first, Heidi or Annabelle, Ray explains, “Heidi is a film that was in production long before an idea of Annabelle came to light — and even before the release of The Conjuring, which debuted Annabelle on screen for the first time. So while it’s a big coincidence that two doll films are being released this year in October, [they] have nothing to do with each other, and the storylines are completely different.”

So, where did Ray get the idea for Heidi? “I was first inspired by Talky Tina from ‘The Twilight Zone,'” he says. “Just the idea of a relentless, indestructible killer doll was enough for me to stay away from dolls in general when I was a little kid. But that idea grew bigger a few years ago when I realized there hasn’t been a decent horror film about dolls, and I wanted to change that by introducing the world to Heidi.”

You can meet Heidi yourself if you’ll be attending PollyGrind 2014. It runs October 16-17; click the link for additional info, including the full lineup (subject to change).

Heidi stars Samuel Brian, Joey Bell, Joei Fulco, and Eva Falana. Their co-stars include Elizabeth Callahan, Michael Monteiro, and Ava Gianna. It was shot at various locations in and around Las Vegas, Nevada, with writer/director Ray covering all aspects of post-production, including editing, visual effects, sound mixing, and Foley. Joseph Gutierrez serves as executive producer, and Mary Solis and Joe Frank are associate producers.

Synopsis
Two high school friends, Ryan (Samuel Brian) and Jack (Joey Bell), are hoping to be the next YouTube stars with their series of prank videos, spending their summer break terrorizing friends and loved ones, all to get a laugh. When Ryan is hired to do a housesitting job for a neighbor, their curiosity to explore an abandoned attic takes a terrifying turn after discovering a mysterious doll: Heidi. Suddenly tormented by a string of unexplained events, Ryan believes the doll is more than just haunted – it is alive,  and he intends to capture everything on camera to prove it. But the worst has yet to come as Heidi’s deadly idea of playtime is just getting started…

See a Making-of Video for Sideshow’s Court of the Dead Kier – Valkyrie of the Dead Premium Format Figure

Sideshow Collectibles' Court of the DeadSideshow Collectibles has another addition to its all original Court of the Dead Premium Format Figures line heading our way, and we have all the early details on Kier, the Valkyrie of the Dead, along with her concept artwork and a behind-the-scenes making-of video.

Product Description
Born the vestigial twin to a Valkyrie of Heaven, Kier was broken and incomplete – an abomination in the eyes of the Heavenly Host. And so she was cast into the void between realms to whither and die.

This is where Death found her and within her pitiful form saw a reflection of what he once had been – a helpless and lost child unwanted by the powers of both Heaven and of Hell. And so, for the first time in many an age, Death raised a new creation by his own hand: a loyal daughter who would stand at his side. The Valkyrie of Death, a warrior who serves her father by scavenging the unwanted souls broken by the battlefield and giving them a new purpose – a chance at redemption within the ranks of Death’s secret army.

When all that she had been was stripped away by the Heavenly Hosts, and the child that would be known as Kier was cast out to wither and die, it was Death that gave the Valkyrie new purpose. As such, Kier is fiercely loyal to her adopted father. Loyal, yet desperate to prove her independence to the Lord of the Underworld – and thus show that his faith in her was not unfounded. In this the Valkyrie struggles. For where most find their path through nature and instinct, Kier’s role as the head of the faction of Spirit was chosen for her by her father – and it is a role that conflicts greatly with Kier’s passionate need for vengeance against those that cast her from Heaven.

About the Court of the Dead
Over millennia, Death has harvested countless souls on behalf of the warring powers of Heaven and Hell. Seeking to redefine the laws of the afterlife, he orchestrates a Court of the Dead, filling the Underworld with souls he’s taken as his own.

Assembled from the disciplines of Spirit, Bone, and Flesh, together in the service of Death, they shall Rise, Conquer, Rule.

#NYCC14: IDW Publishing Bringing Douglas Adams’ Dirk Gently to Comics

0
0

IDW Publishing To Bring Douglas Adams’ Dirk Gently to ComicsIDW Publishing has announced a partnership with Ideate Media to bring Dirk Gently to his first-ever comic book series in 2015, helping to prove the interconnectedness of all things, the precept by which Gently, Douglas Adams’ beloved fictional “holistic detective,” lives.

Following the recent announcement that Gently will be developed for television by IDW Entertainment and Ideate Media with Circle of Confusion as executive producers and Max Landis as showrunner, IDW will also launch an ongoing series of all-new Dirk Gently adventures as comic books.

For those unfamiliar with the source material, author Adams himself described Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, first published in 1987, as a “thumping good detective-ghost-horror-whodunnit-time travel-romantic-musical-comedy-epic.”  A little something for everyone, right?

The comics, set to launch in the spring of 2015, will be written by Chris Ryall, IDW’s Chief Creative Officer/Editor-in-Chief and creator/writer of series such as Zombies vs. Robots, Groom Lake, and The Hollows. The artist will be Tony Akins (Fables), and Chew co-creator Rob Guillory has contributed the first cover image.

“I know that an American writing Dirk comics is going to get a certain segment of British Adams fans a bit brassed off,” said Ryall, “but, much like in the case of the oft-referenced Schrödinger’s cat in the Dirk novels, we can all agree that until the world opens these comics, they are both good and not good, right? And certainly Adams’ writing transcends all borders and has rightfully earned him a worldwide following. I can’t wait to bring Dirk into the world of comics.”

“Douglas was best known for Hitchhiker, but his real creative passion was always Dirk. Of the two series, this was his secret favorite.  I know he would have smiled upon its reincarnation as a comic book,” said Ed Victor, Douglas Adams’ longtime agent and friend.

Adams’ Gently, who appeared in Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency; Dirk Gently’s Long, Dark Tea-time of the Soul; and the unfinished Dirk Gently fragment that Douglas was writing at the time of his death, The Salmon of Doubt, is a charismatic, mysterious, troubled, brilliant figure—cursed with a relentless intellect, psychic powers he doesn’t fully understand or want, a gift for self-mythologizing, and a supernatural ability to detect disturbances in the fabric of reality. He has found a strange calling as a private detective for impossible crimes, the likes of which will take many forms in the comics.

Full story details and release information will follow soon so stay tuned.

Weekend Box Office: Dracula Untold But Certainly Not Unseen

0
0

Weekend Box OfficeDrac’s back! The untold story of Dracula’s heroic rise from impaling death merchant to simple family man to vampiric Fox News crusader against Muslim tyranny proved that there’s still some life left in that undead heart after all.

Gone Girl continued to suck the life’s blood out of the box office, but one movie would not be defanged. I’m talking, of course, about Dracula Untold, or as it is also known as…

Lord of the Fangs: Return of the Count

Game of Coffins

Vlad Dracula & the Half-Blood Prince of Darkness
The Sucker: The Vamp Is Rising

In the Name of the Count: A Castle Dracula Tale

Masters of the Underworld

Stake Through the Braveheart

Dungeons & Draculas

The Chronicles of Transylvania: The Vampire, the Wife & the Warlock

Conan the Impaler
Drac the Giant Staker

Batmaster 2: Through the Portal of Time

Highlander: The Suckening
Don’t Be a Menace to Transylvania While Sucking Your Blood in the Hood

DVM: Dracula vs. Muslims

Dead Sonja
Dracula and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Night

The Transylvanian Who Went Up a Hill But Came Down a Vampire
Batman Begins

According to Box Office Mojo… Hey! Where Box Office Mojo? Awww, crap! Wait! It’s back! Now it’s gone again! What’s going on? Make up your damn mind, already!

So, anyway, according to Deadline, Universal’s launching pad for what they hope will become an Avengers-style assembling of Universal Monsters opened to the tune of about $23.3 million (estimated) for the weekend. Given how strong the film’s box office has been internationally as well ($33.9 million in 42 offshore territories), don’t be surprised to see Luke Evans vamping it up again, possibly with some other familiar Universal monsters in tow. Let the games begin, indeed…

Meanwhile, Annabelle suffered the predictable steep second week drop of nearly 60%. That’s still about $16 million, making the 4th place The Conjuring spin-off the year’s most successful wide release horror film of the year with a total cume of around $62.1 million. Actually, that’s kind of depressing when you think about it.

Horror takes next week off but returns the week before Halloween with the horror-movie-with-training-wheels Ouija that’s hoping to scare the crap out of teenage girls who haven’t discovered an even greater world of genre films just yet.

#NYCC14: First Teaser and Early Details on The Following Season 3

0
0

The Following Season 3We kind of gave up on “The Following” last year – we watched it but only begrudgingly – and aren’t sure how many of you Dreadies are still on board for the further adventures of Joe Carroll and Ryan Hardy.

In case there are still “followers” out there, here’s a look at some early footage from Season 3 that was shown during New York Comic Con along with highlights from the panel courtesy of Screen Rant.

On hand for the show’s NYCC presentation were producer Marcos Siega and cast members Kevin Bacon (Hardy) and Shawn Ashmore (Mike Weston), who confirmed that Season 3 will pick up one year after Season 2.  Flashbacks will be shown to help the audience catch up.

Bacon said last season was about the masks we wear – and Hardy masking his pain. This season Hardy is in a much better place; he has a girlfriend, and his relationship is strong with his niece – he’s got a life. On the other hand, Mike has lost everything and made a decision to go off on a hunt for Mark – which has pushed him away from Hardy.

Joe (James Purefoy) and Mark (Sam Underwood) will not be hidden from the audience. Joe plays a big part in the season – and that chapter of “The Following” has its proper ending. Joe’s story is just the tip of the iceberg, and Mark will be a shark under the water – used in ways to surprise the audience. In the first episode we’ll find out who was in the car with Mark (it’s a woman) at the end of the finale.

The thing that drives the show is conflict. Conflict among Carroll, Mike, Hardy, and Mark fuels this season, but it’s important that the characters grow and change – especially Mike.

Zuleikha Robinson plays Hardy’s new girlfriend – an ER doctor. The second episode will feature a flashback about how the two met.

Max Hardy (Jessica Stroup) is in a relationship with a character named Tom, a SWAT guy that we will see regularly. Mike still wants to be with her but had to make the choice between fighting for her or his thirst for vengeance against Mark.

Dr. Arthur Strauss (Carroll’s mentor played by Gregg Henry) will return. He’s on trial, and the audience will meet some of his followers. Part of the season will revolve around Hardy and Mike’s questionable methods of dispensing justice.

According to Bacon, this year they’re dialing back on the blood (and “stabby stab”), but some of the actual violence will be more disturbing. The actor believes that some of the implied brutality, what you don’t see, will be even more frightening than previous seasons. Ashmore added there’s a death in Episode 2 that features an especially shocking method for killing.

The producers know where Season 3 ends and how Season 4 will begin – assuming they get a fourth season.

“The Following” Season 3 Overview
It’s been a year since the climatic events of Season 2 – a year that has made a lifetime of difference for FBI agent RYAN HARDY (Kevin Bacon). We see Ryan as we’ve never seen him before. He’s involved with GWEN (Zuleikha Robinson; “Homeland,” “Rome”), an ER doctor and the mother of a seven-year-old girl. But a peaceful life is not in the cards for Ryan as a series of horrific murders rocks New York, sending its residents into a state of fear and paranoia, and the entire city into lockdown. Ryan struggles to balance his desire to be a good partner to the woman he loves and saving the city from one of the worst threats it’s ever faced. With Ryan’s arch-nemesis, manipulative serial killer JOE CARROLL (James Purefoy), on death row and familiar faces – including psychopath MARK (Sam Underwood) – appearing in the most unexpected ways, Ryan is forced to ask: What if this is not Joe Carroll’s work but something much bigger? What if Joe Carroll was just the beginning?

#NYCC14: Underworld Franchise Expanding; New Movies and a TV Show

0

After the last Underworld we figured that the series had finally sunk, but it seems like the old adage about not being able to keep a good ghoul down is true. Read on for the skinny on all the Underworld news that’s fit to print.

IGN caught up with Len Wiseman at the New York Comic Con, who had this to say about the future of the franchise.

There’s a few things being developed right now,” says Wiseman. “There are some characters who we really liked that will be in a kind of a spin-off like we did with ‘Rise of the Lycans,’ then we have another film in the works with Kate [Beckinsale] as well, and then there’s a television series. So we’re expanding that universe in many ways. They’re all in development. There’s a lot of releases out there that aren’t actually true; it would take too long to wrap up [what we'll see first in one answer].”

As reported earlier, Lakeshore Entertainment hired Cory Goodman (Priest, The Last Witch Hunter) to write the script for the next film in the Underworld franchise. Lakeshore’s Tom Rosenberg and Gary Lucchesi are producing.

Keep it here for more as it comes!

#NYCC14: Powers Trailer and Artwork Shown Off by Sony

0
0

We’ve been telling you about Sony PlayStation Network’s adaptation of the Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming-created comic series Powers starring Sharlto Copley for a while now, but the time has come to stop talking and start showing.

In the digital series Copley will play Christian Walker, described as a dapper and charismatic character with a darkness and violence right at the surface but with a sense of buried integrity. Walker has the dissolute air of a faded rock star and the body of a battered heavyweight.

Once possessed of super-powers, Walker lost those abilities in a battle with a super-human mass killer. A faded hero, he’s now a detective who works with law enforcement, using his singular expertise to investigate crimes in the Powers community.

Michelle Forbes (“True Blood,” “The Killing”) will play Retro Girl, the undisputed superstar of the Powers community. An icon of justice, selflessness, and business acumen, she has a cool, hard exterior with a fire right below the surface. Her willingness to put herself at risk for the good of others is matched only by her ability to manage her globe-spanning personal brand.

David Slade will direct the first two episodes of the live-action series from scripts by Charlie Huston. Susan Heyward (“The Following”) has been tapped as the female lead with Max Fowler (“The Killing”) and Adam Godley (“Breaking Bad”) also cast.

Combining the genres of superhero fantasy, crime noir, and police procedural, Powers, produced by Sony Pictures TV, is set in a world full of people with superhuman abilities and where all of those powers are just another catalyst for mayhem and murder.

It follows the lives of two homicide detectives, Christian Walker (Copley) and Deena Pilgrim (Heyward), who are assigned to protect humans like us and investigate cases involving people with superhuman abilities, referred to as “Powers,” who glide through the sky on lightning bolts and fire and who clash above cities in epic battle, oblivious to the mortals below. Pilgrim is described as equal parts beauty and sarcasm, a wunderkind detective with edgy style.

Fowler will play Krispin Stockley, the son of Walker’s murdered partner, a disaffected teen still struggling with the death of his father at the hand of a rogue Power, which starts him on a dark journey that will warp him both physically and emotionally. Godley will play Captain Cross, the solid steel in a frail frame captain of the Powers division, bookish, respectful, and loyal; but he may harbor a secret agenda that could lead his beloved department into a full-fledged conspiracy.

It also features a hilarious intro from screenwriter Todd Farmer, who penned Jason X and My Bloody Valentine 3D.

In one of the tales two men rob a gas station, only to have one end up kidnapping a trio of coeds. What should have been big money turns out to be a night of horror. In another a man is checked into a hospital, only to find out that the facility has a dark secret which leads to a gateway to the threshold of madness.

Just in time for the Halloween season, Knetter has also re-released his book Zombie Bukkake under the new title Grave Mistake, which he feels is a more accurate representation of the subject matter. “While the title Zombie Bukkake helped me sell it on a certain cult level and got me on the History Channel, I feel the name ultimately hurt it,” he told us.

In Grave Mistake Foley is a happily married and loving father. He has one vice he keeps hidden from those around him: pornography. While online Foley finds an ad for a porn film shooting in his town. While he would never dream of being unfaithful, he begins to contemplate what really constitutes cheating. The book follows Foley on his journey to Hell, where he encounters hordes of zombies, a cannibal cult, and countless other people on his quest for redemption.

And last but not least, two of Knetter’s stories will appear in a new collection called Cesspool, which is currently available for pre-order. Learn more and pick up a copy over on the official Cesspool website.

Ice Cream Man 2: Sundae Bloody Sundae Looking to Get Kickstarted

Travel back with us to 1995. Major earthquakes in Kobe, Japan, kill over 10k people. Grateful Dead frontman Jerry Garcia dies. Rapper Tupac Shakur is convicted on a sexual assault charge and sentenced to up to 4-1/2 years in prison. An estimated 150 million people watch as the not guilty verdict is read in the O. J. Simpson case. Clint Howard stars in the horror flick Ice Cream Man. Today Clint Howard is looking to add a double scoop to his terror tale.

From the Ice Cream Man Kickstarter site
It’s been twenty years since ICE CREAM MAN — an iconic spectacle of gore, blood, and mayhem — exploded onto the big screen. Audiences couldn’t get enough of Howard’s mental-patient-turned-sweet-treat-scooper Gregory, who laced his frozen creations with bugs and choice bits of corpses and served them up to unsuspecting, Converse-wearing kids out for summer fun. In fact, the original ICE CREAM MAN has become a classic in the B-movie canon, cheerfully terrorizing two decades of viewers with low-budget action, cheesy dialogue, and some of the most creative uses of severed heads ever seen on screen.

As the original ICE CREAM MAN’s popularity has skyrocketed among horror film and B-movie aficionados, star Howard and producer Norman Apstein have considered a sequel that takes the story beyond the kid’s movie genre and ratchets the horror quotient up—notch by blood-soaked notch. ICE CREAM MAN 2: SUNDAE BLOODY SUNDAE won’t be a movie for children—it’s a tale of revenge, chock-full of murderous intent, laced with dripping entrails, and served up ice cold. The Rocketeers—Johnny, Heather, Tuna, and Small Paul—are all grown up now, and Gregory wants them to suffer. Really suffer. Torture and violence are on the menu, and it’s going to be sweet.

From the official Anchor Bay Facebook Page:
On behalf of Anchor Bay and Scream Factory, we want to thank everyone that has purchased the Halloween Complete Collection.  We hope you are enjoying it and all the work that went into bringing it to you, the fans. Unfortunately there is an audio sync issue with Halloween 4 that has always existed on that film with every release.  We attempted to fix one of the problems prior to this release but in doing so, it created sync issues elsewhere in the film, which has now come to light.  For the past two weeks we have been working to fix the problems that have arisen and we have been able to fix the sync issues at the 46 minute mark.   We will be issuing a replacement disc to anyone that has been affected.

If you were affected by a Halloween 4 sync issue and would like a replacement disc sent to you, please follow these instructions:
