You can’t kill the metal! The metal will live on! Punk rock tried to kill the metal, but they failed as they were smitten to the ground! New wave also tried to kill the metal, but they failed as well and were stricken down! Grunge, too, tried to kill the metal… ha ha ha ha ha! They failed and were thrown to the ground!

Now the metal has given birth to unstoppable zombies in Josh Vargas’ new flick Hairmetal Shotgun Zombie Massacre: The Movie, and we have your first look!

The flick, co-written by Vargas along with Justin Whitney (based on his own short story), is also directed by Vargas and features cameos by Tom Araya (Slayer), Randy Blythe (Lamb of God), and David Vincent (Morbid Angel).

Hairmetal Shotgun Zombie Massacre: The Movie centers on a hairmetal band that is struggling to find its own identity. The members decide to record their first full length album in a creepy cabin located in the middle of a notorious cemetery. Chock-full of weed, coke, and booze, the band discovers a secret in the cellar and unwittingly opens a gate that allows demons to possess the corpses in the surrounding cemetery. Forced to survive the night and with the odds getting slimmer, the band must battle hordes of the demonic undead and hope to get a record deal somewhere in the process.

Look for a trailer soon! In the interim dig on the first stills and behind-the-scenes video below.

Limited Edition Art Print Celebrates Christmas Evil

This past Tuesday saw the Blu-ray release of 1980’s Christmas Evil, which beat Silent Night, Deadly Night to the punch when it comes to killer Santa films. A glimpse into the mind of a man who truly believes he is Santa, Christmas Evil is one of the best of the best when it comes to holiday horrors, and I highly recommend you check it out.

In celebration of the Blu-ray release, and the holiday season, I’ve partnered up with Horror Decor on a limited edition Christmas Evil art print, featuring an absolutely beautiful piece of art from Richard Wells. Wells had actually whipped up the art last year, and as soon as I laid eyes on it, I knew I had to find a way to make it available to fans of the film.

Measuring 11″x17″, the art is printed on #120 coated silk heavy-stock paper, and each print comes protected in a rigid vinyl sleeve. Only 50 are available, selling for $15 each.

Grab yours over on Horror Decor while supplies last, and be sure to browse around and take a peek at their full 2014 holiday collection!

In Christmas Evil, Harry Stradling wants to embody the pure Santa Claus that he grew up loving. He works at a toy factory and keeps records of who’s been naughty and nice, but the spirit of Christmas isn’t what it used to be and he can’t take it. So, garbed in his red suit, Harry decides that the only thing he can do is to become Santa himself and make all of the naughty townspeople pay… in blood.

American Guinea Pig: Bouquet of Guts and Gore (2014)

American Guinea PigStarring Ashley Lynn Caputo, Caitlyn Dailey, Scott Gabbey

Directed by Stephen Biro

Distributed by Unearthed Films

Sometimes, ya just gotta flush out your eye sockets after what you’ve seen, and with Stephen Biro’s takeover of the Japanese Guinea Pig series, this one subtitled Bouquet of Guts and Gore, nothing could be more necessary than a substantial douching of the orbital cavities…the only thing is, if you’ve been desensitized to images and recreations like the ones contained in this film, there really isn’t much more to shock or awe the seasoned viewer.

Biro, who grabs the series that globally sent uptight do-gooders into outrageous fits, takes the simple premise of kidnapping and torture and hurls it at your face with the force of a major league fastball – you can see it coming, but 99 percent of the time you don’t even have the reflexes worthy of an all-out retreat. Japanese director Hideshi Hino led the charge back in 1985 with the first film that triggered a series of sequels, going so far as to have one reported to the FBI by Charlie Sheen, who mistakenly took it as a snuff film. An extensive fact-finding journey was undertaken to prove to authorities that the images contained in the movies were indeed staged, and now, the continuation (which is actually a prequel) comes Stateside with Biro’s direction and repulsive vision behind the lens.

The movie starts with two unlucky women who are abducted by a clever distraction in their car, then taken to an undisclosed location where they are bound, drugged with incredibly large doses of LSD (to immobilize and eliminate pain), and systematically dissected while a group of budding videographers film the heinous butchering with Super-8 cams. That’s it – end of description, and for the near majority of the 73-minute leap into utter depravity, we’re awash in a tidal wave of blood and viscera that overtakes a minute display of dialogue and backing score. Tourniquets are applied, and the sawing commences – the mere sound of bone being cut is enough to shake the enamel off of your teeth, and limbs are discarded with disdain after their crude removal…and that’s just the tame stuff!

As the film progresses, this mother-daughter combo is reduced to a mere fraction of their former selves, and the viewer gets to see every wince-generating moment, even so as to drag on in an ample supply, and this is the unfortunate side of the show. I actually began clock watching (which I’ve been known to do on occasion) as the minutes passed by, waiting to see what would transpire next, and I was lulled into a false sense of completion until the film’s final act, which even for this benumbed shock-monger came as an uneasy visual…yeesh.

Overall, I’d offer this Guinea Pig up to anyone who likes their carnage in voluminous allotment or to the newbie gorehound who wants to see if his weak stomach can deal with the 100-mph sanguine fluid facial that Biro dishes out. Unfortunately, I’ve already been that tiny bug smashing into the windshield, but at least I can appreciate some home-cooked brutality.

Legendary’s Krampus Eats Up First Two Cast Members

In 2007 Michael Dougherty made the ultimate Halloween movie with Trick ‘r Treat. In 2015 he looks to do the same for Christmas, and his Krampus has just devoured its first two cast members. Read on for all the latest!

THR reports today that Allison Tolman (“Fargo”) and Emjay Anthony (Chef) are in negotiations to star in the holiday horror-comedy, which was co-written by Dougherty, Todd Casey, and Zach Shields and will be directed by Dougherty.

The project centers around a Santa Claus-like ancient entity who punishes bad kids. Tolman and Anthony will play mother and son in a family that is under the demon’s attack. Anthony’s character is essentially the lead of the movie, as he is the one who has to step up to save the day.

The dark ancient origins of our holidays have always fascinated me,” Dougherty said. “I’ve been drawing twisted Christmas cards for well over a decade so it only made sense to bring some of that morbid yuletide fun to the big screen, and Krampus was the perfect mythology to do that. Christmas has been invading Halloween for far too long. It’s time to return the favor.

Legendary Pictures is behind the movie, which Universal will release just in time for next year’s holidays on December 4, 2015.

Clip number 45,664,009 for What We Do in the Shadows has arrived and we have it for you right here along with nearly a dozen images. Check it all out!

From the Press Release:
Unison Films, in association with Funny or Die and Paladin, has announced today that they will release Flight of the Conchords’ creators Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi’s Toronto Film Festival People’s Choice Award-winner WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS in New York and Los Angeles on February 13, followed by an expansion into major markets, including San Francisco, Philadelphia, Boston, Seattle, and Washington, D.C., on February 20, with a continued national rollout throughout February and early March.

Unison Films will be heading up the theatrical release along with Paladin, and Funny or Die will leverage its social media and marketing reach leading up to the film’s release. WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS, produced by Unison Films and Defender Films, along with producers Waititi, Chelsea Winstanley, and Emanuel Michael, follows the adventures of four vampire roommates trying to get by in a modern world that’s not always hospitable to the undead. The highly acclaimed comedy sensation premiered at Sundance earlier this year and has since gone on to play Berlin, SXSW, TIFF, and AFI, winning every audience award for which it has been eligible.

Clement and Waititi, creators of the HBO hit series “Flight of the Conchords,” co-wrote, co-directed, and co-star in this hilarious send-up in which an endearingly unhip quartet of friends ranging in age from 183 to 8,000 years old squabble over household chores, struggle to keep up with the latest trends in fashion and technology, antagonize the local werewolves, and deal with the rigors of living on a very, very strict diet. The film also stars FOTC’s Rhys Darby, Jonathan Brugh, Cori Gonzalez-Macuer, Stu Rutherford, and Jackie Van Beek.

WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS is Unison’s third film with New Zealand multi-hyphenate and Academy Award® nominee Taika Waititi, following cult hit EAGLE VS. SHARK and New Zealand’s all-time highest grossing box office film, BOY. Unison is also currently in pre-production on Waititi’s next film, Blacklisted script JOJO RABBIT, a co-production with Studio Babelsberg.

Check Out a Window-Smashingly Fantastic Clip from Muck

Do you love hot chicks, movie monsters and all the blood you can shake a stick at? If you do (and who doesn’t) then Muck is the film for you. Check out a brand new clip from the movie.’

So the question director Steve Wolsh keeps getting is, “What is in the Muck.” Of course, he can’t reveal that answer just yet, but he has unleashed a brand new sneak peek clip that we’ve included below and we finally get a look at the Muck ‘Creepers’ and see just how disagreeable they can be.

Concerning what the ‘Creepers’ are, Wolsh said, “Well, we can’t tell horror fans just yet, but we can tell you that you’ve never seen anything like them before. They’re not zombies, vampires, werewolves or ghosts. They don’t haunt your nightmares, come out of your TV, carry chainsaws or burst out of your chest. Our “Creepers” are truly one-of-a kind, and we know you’ll love them…in that fear-for-your-life kind of way.”

But being the fair and balanced guy that he is, Wolsh decided to share the aforementioned clip with fans instead of divulging too much info on the film. “In lieu of telling you exactly who or what they are, we’re going to give you a little taste in the form of an exclusive video where I introduce a never-before-seen clip from Muck,” Wolsh said. “It’s the first appearance on the world stage of the Creepers, and they get up close and personal with Muck stars Lachlan Buchanan, Playboy Playmate of the Year 2012 Jaclyn Swedberg and Puja Mohindra. Enjoy!”

In other news, the Muck team has already started working on the next film in the series, a prequel entitled Muck: Feast of Saint Patrick. Kane Hodder will be returning and he will be joined by some new friends, including Playboy Playmates of the Year Kennedy Summers (2014) and Raquel Pomplun (2013), as well as cosplay all-stars LeeAnna Vamp and Nicole Marie Jean (which boast a combined 1 million Facebook followers). There is currently a Kickstarter campaign for Muck: The Feast of Saint Patrick which is already over halfway toward their goal of $250,000 with three weeks left to go. This is certainly due to the fact that the perks are so outstanding. They include a walk-on role and the chance to get killed onscreen by Kane Hodder himself! Check out the campaign and some of the hilarious videos they have posted!

Andy Serkis Talks the Future of the Planet of the Apes

No, that’s not the title of the next movie in the new Planet of the Apes franchise, but in retrospect… yeah, it kind of works. In any event Andy Serkis, who plays the head badass simian Caesar, recently spoke with MTV about the future of the franchise.

It’s very, very early in where we choose to drop anchor in the next film. It could be five years after the event, it could be the night after the events of where we left ‘Dawn,’ so it’s very difficult to know where the story is going right at this moment because it’s being written as we speak. I know that part of the desire for Matt [Reeves] to do this next movie is about continuing the enjoyment of seeing these apes evolve. So I don’t think we’re going to see a situation where we’re jumping… It might be three films. It could be four. It could be five. Who knows? But the journey will continue. It might not necessarily be summarized or completely fulfilled in this next one. The point being, eventually we know that we’re going to end up back at ‘The Planet of the Apes,’ but whether it’s this film or not, I don’t know.

The next Planet of the Apes film opens July 29, 2016; Matt Reeves will once again direct.

If you’re reading this site, you’re probably like most of us and consider yourself a student of horror. And indeed we all are. If you’d like to make it official, the Miskatonic Institute of Horror Studies can make that happen. And the faculty is to die for.

The Miskatonic is expanding to the UK starting January 8, 2015. It is, of course, named for the fictional university in H.P. Lovecraft’s literary mythos and is a non-profit, community-based organization that started in Montreal, Canada. Founded by Kier-La Janisse in March of 2010, Miskatonic Montreal now operates under the leadership of co-directors Mario DeGiglio-Bellemare and Kristopher Woofter. Miskatonic London will operate under the co-direction of Kier-La Janisse and Virginie Sélavy.

Check out some additional information below, and be sure to visit the official Miskatonic London website and “like” Miskatonic Institute of Horror Studies – London on Facebook.

From the Press Release
The Miskatonic Institute of Horror Studies is pleased to announce the opening of its London branch on January 8, 2015, which will be based at the heart of the city’s underground culture, the Horse Hospital.

In its pilot semester, running from January to June 2015, the Miskatonic Institute will offer monthly lectures exploring the more obscure corners of horror and fantastical cinema, which will be taught by established writers, directors, scholars and programmers. It aims to be a nurturing environment for horror fans and scholars that will inspire intellectual curiosity and critical debate in a friendly atmosphere, as well as build a community around shared enthusiasm for the genre.

Having lived through 9/11 in New York, I know first-hand how important it is for someone to step up and take control of a bad situation in a time of crisis. Throughout the first day or so of that tragic event, all eyes were on then Mayor Rudy Guiliani, who to his credit was a lot like Batman. Always on the scene where he needed to be.

The fictional version of New York in peril in “The Strain” is looking to have its own go-to figure of authority during its vampire crisis as Yahoo! is reporting that an actor has been found to take the reigns of the bite-happy situation as Mayor. Ron Canada (pictured) is that man, and unlike Giuliani, look for him to be screwing up left and right.

In other casting news the site also reports that the FX drama is looking to add a series regular in the form of David, an 11-year-old boy who, as the strain spreads, must make a very difficult decision regarding his parents. The search is on for someone to fill that role. Stay tuned.

Meanwhile December 2nd is the date when you’ll be able to experience the first season of TV’s hottest, most blood-curdling sci-fi series, “The Strain,” on DVD and Blu-ray from executive producers-writers Guillermo Del Toro, Carlton Cuse, and Chuck Hogan.

Season 1 Synopsis:
When a freak virus kills all but four passengers on an airplane at JFK, Ephraim Goodweather (Corey Stoll), head of the Center for Disease Control’s “Canary Team,” is immediately called to the scene. With help from a mysterious Holocaust survivor (David Bradley), “Eph” and his colleague (Mía Maestro) uncover the outbreak’s ties to vampirism.

Now, the only way to stop the terrifying disease from wiping out mankind is to face its source – a sinister supernatural creature known as “The Master” – whose evil intent seems more powerful than any other force on Earth!
