Arnold Schwarzenegger returns as the T-800 in Terminator: Genisys, set to kick-start a whole new trilogy. How will the 67-year-old look as one of cinema’s most badass killers? On tap for you today is a brand new image which answers that question!

The image comes courtesy of Twitter user “cClinkenbeard,” who shared the photo after it was snapped on the Paramount Pictures lot by a German tour group. Check it out below to whet your appetite for geriatric destruction.

If you want more, dig into a full Terminator: Genisys image gallery.

The film features Emilia Clarke as Sarah Conner, Jai Courtney as Kyle Reese, Jason Clarke as John Conner, and Matt Smith as John Conner’s ally (his role is being kept quiet).

Byung-hun Lee, Aaron V. Williamson, Dayo Okeniyi, and J.K. Simmons also star. Alan Taylor directs.

Look for the film in theatres July 1, 2015, via Paramount.

Synopsis:
The beginning of Terminator: Genisys, the first of three planned films that Paramount hopes will relaunch the beloved sci-fi franchise, is set in 2029, when the Future War is raging and a group of human rebels has the evil artificial-intelligence system Skynet on the ropes. John Connor (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ Jason Clarke) is the leader of the resistance, and Kyle Reese (Divergent‘s Jai Courtney) is his loyal soldier, raised in the ruins of post-apocalyptic California. As in the original film, Connor sends Reese back to 1984 to save Connor’s mother, Sarah (Game of Thrones‘ Emilia Clarke), from a Terminator programmed to kill her so that she won’t ever give birth to John. But what Reese finds on the other side is nothing like he expected.

UK’s ITV Bringing Jekyll & Hyde Back to Life

Last week we learned that UK network ITV is working on crime drama “The Frankenstein Chronicles,” starring Sean Bean. But that’s not the only monstrous series they’re set to unleash, as news of another has just hit the interwebs. Read on!

Deadline reports today that ITV has commissioned a 10-part action adventure drama inspired by Robert Louis Stevenson’s The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. The series, “Jekyll & Hyde,” hails from British actor and author Charlie Higson, whose credits include The Enemy and the Young Bond series of books.

Written and executive produced by Higson, the series is set in 1930s London at a time of Hollywood glamour, aerodynamic cars and monster movies. The focus will be on the young, attractive and troubled hero, Robert Jekyll, the grandson of the original doctor. Newly-qualified, Robert is on a quest to discover his real identity, his true family history and the nature of his “curse,” which is being controlled with medication by Dr. Vishal Najaran.

One actor will play the lead role, transforming into Hyde in moments of extreme anger and stress and when his or the lives of others are threatened.

Unfortunately, CGI will play a big part in the transformation and superhero sequences. Certain recurring characters, including monsters, ghouls, zombies, werewolves, vampires and general freaks of nature, will also be created by CGI techniques.

Casting is under way, and filming set to begin this coming January. Colin Teague will direct.

Here at Dread Central we thrive on stories of the weird and rare! Especially when something really special is captured on video. Case in point… the extremely scary/crazy looking and rare black seadevil angler fish!

According to the San Jose Mercury News out of California, researchers with the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute captured a black seadevil, or Melanocetus, an anglerfish species, on video. Scientists recorded the 3.5-inch monster swimming almost 2,000 feet below the surface of the water in the Monterey Canyon, off the California coast.

We’ve been diving out here in the Monterey Canyon regularly for 25 years, and we’ve seen three,” said Bruce Robison, research division chairman of the aquarium’s research institute.

Yeah… I think we’ll leave this nightmarish thing to itself…

At the Devil’s Door and Cam2Cam Head to Home Video

IFC Midnight has scheduled two new movies for a home video release, At the Devil’s Door and Cam2Cam, and we have your arrival details right here! Look for both of them December 16, 2014.

From the Press Release:
A real estate agent looking to sell a house must deal with a satanic presence that just won’t vacate the premises in AT THE DEVIL’S DOOR, a star-studded shocker that will have home audiences cringing when it comes to Blu-ray and DVD on December 16, 2014, via IFC Midnight and MPI Media Group, with SRPs, respectively, of $29.98 and $24.98.

When ambitious young real estate agent Leigh (Best Actress Academy Award nominee Catalina Sandino Moreno; Maria Full of Grace, Che, “Red Band Society”) is asked to sell a house with a checkered past, she crosses paths with a disturbed, possibly abused teenaged girl who seems to be a squatter in the empty house – and who, Leigh learns, is the runaway daughter of the couple selling the property.

When Leigh tries to intervene and help her, she becomes entangled with a supernatural force that soon pulls Leigh’s artist sister, Vera (Naya Rivera; “Glee”) into its web and has sinister plans for both of them. Ashley Rickards of MTV’s hit series “Awkward” also stars.

With nail-biting terror, writer-director Nicholas McCarthy’s (The Pact) AT THE DEVIL’S DOOR is an unforgettable venture into the supernatural. “If spookhouse immersion is your horror-flick bottom line, you’ll relish AT THE DEVIL’S DOOR,” said Alan Scherstuhl of The Village Voice. Wrote Aisle Seat’s Mike McGranaghan, “Containing some genuinely gutsy, unexpected twists, [the film] cheerfully plays with your expectations, pulling the rug out from under you whenever it damn well pleases.”

The film had its world premiere at the SXSW Film Festival and screened to acclaim at other international festivals before receiving a national theatrical release from IFC Midnight.

At The Devil's Door

What happens when the virtual world and the real world collide, and the people on the other side of the screen you thought you were safe from turn out to be dangerously close? A terrifying look at the supposed anonymity of online interactions, CAM2CAM shows that even in the real world, sometimes nothing is as it seems. Backpacker Allie (Tammin Sursok; “Pretty Little Liars,” 10 Rules for Sleeping Around) has just arrived in Bangkok, Thailand, to hunt down her sister’s killer. When Allie meets fellow Americans Michael and Marit (newcomer Ben Wiggins and Sarah Bonrepaux of ABCs of Death), she thinks she’s found some much-needed friends. But her new acquaintances are Web performers who harbor a terrible secret, and before long the dark menace beneath Michael’s easy charm and the strange bisexual magnetism of Marit lead Allie to a discovery that may bring her to the brink of madness. In a city where foreigners come to reinvent themselves, Allie learns, perhaps too late, that people aren’t necessarily who you think they are.

This chilling IFC Midnight theatrical release is from writer-director Joel Soisson (Children of the Corn: Genesis; The Prophecy: Uprising, Pulse 2: Afterlife).

Freddy vs. Jason Gets Its Own NES Game

Whether you loved Freddy vs. Jason or you hated it, you must at least admit that a video game based on the movie would be pretty awesome. Over a decade later, one has finally arrived, though it’s not quite the game you might be expecting!

Thanks to a hardcore fan with a whole lot of time on his hands, Freddy vs. Jason is now available for purchase as a fully playable Nintendo game. Essentially, the fan hacked the infamous Friday the 13th NES game, infusing Freddy Krueger into the mix. Instead of being a counselor, you are Freddy, tasked with hunting down Jason and slaughtering camp counselors along the way.

In 1989, both Friday the 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street were turned into their very own Nintendo games, both of which have experienced a big time resurgence over the course of the past year. This clever hack mashes the two games together, just as the filmmakers behind Freddy vs. Jason combined the two top horror franchises.

The Freddy vs. Jason NES cartridge can be yours for $40, available exclusively through Flashback Entertainment. It’s likely that limited quantities are available, so don’t miss out on owning this ultimate dream game.

While you wait for the cartridge to arrive on your doorstep, check out some footage of the gameplay below!

Robert Kirkman Talks Walking Dead TV Show Regrets

So if you’re Robert Kirkman, creator of one of the biggest pop culture juggernaut of all time, you have to wonder… “Is there anything that Kirkman regrets in terms of the TV show based upon his incredible comic universe?” The answer is yes!

THR caught up with Kirkman who revealed the following…

“If I had to do it again, I wouldn’t have done the CDC episode [at the end of season one],” Kirkman told the site of the episode in which CDC doc Edwin Jenner (Noah Emmerich) reveals to Rick (Andrew Lincoln) that everyone is already infected.”

“The reveal came at an early stage for the zombie drama — which had yet to break out to become the ratings juggernaut it has become in season five.”

“It possibly gave away too much information and was such a big change very early on in the series.”

I feel like there might have been a better way to wrap up the first season,” Kirkman says of AMC’s season-one finale. “It ended up being a fun episode. I love the character of Dr. Jenner and thought Noah did an amazing job. But there were things in that episode that I think seem very much not of The Walking Dead world.

“The Walking Dead” Episode 5.08 – “Coda” (airs 11/30/14)

Rowdy Roddy Piper Battles Cthulhu in Short Film Portal to Hell; Help Fund It!

It’s not all that often that we post about crowd-funding campaigns here on Dread Central because most of them just plain aren’t interesting. But every once in a while one comes along that compels us to action. This, my friends, is that one.

Upcoming short film Portal to Hell will feature “Rowdy” Roddy Piper (They Live) battling H.P. Lovecraft’s Cthulhu, and though we’re pretty sure that’s all you need to hear before donating to the cause, we invite you to learn a whole lot more about the project below.

When you’re done reading, head over to the Portal to Hell Indiegogo fund to pitch in!

From the Press Release:
Director Vivieno Caldinelli (Picnicface, This Hour Has 22 Minutes), writer Matt Watts (Michael: Tuesdays and Thursdays), and star Roddy Piper (They Live) have teamed up with executive producer Todd Brown (The Raid, ABCs of Death), executive producer Andrew Rosen (“Todd & the Book of Pure Evil”), and FX guru Steve Kostanski (Manborg) to bring horror fans the slimiest genre mash-up ever seen!

With assistance from the Harold Greenberg Fund, the short film will be moving forward in early 2015 – but with fan support via Indiegogo, the filmmakers can create bigger stunts, crazier effects, and put the gears in motion to turn PORTAL TO HELL into an ass-kicking, feature-length adventure.

Jack (Piper) is a simple man with simple needs. Mostly he just needs to be left alone to read his book. It’s a good book and he likes it… or, at least, he would if the tenants of the building he manages weren’t so damn needy.  And it’s not just blown fuses and clogged toilets… No, when the building power goes out, the culprit is a pair of Cthulhu-worshiping tenants opening a portal to the demon city of R’lyeh in the basement. Does this count as building maintenance? Is battling the supernatural part of Jack’s job description? Maybe not, but if Jack can’t close the portal, the entire building and – let’s face it – the whole world is screwed.

Logan Marshall Green, Tammy Blanchard, Emayatzy Corinealdi, and Michiel Huisman star in the flick, which is now is post-production.

Synopsis:
Will and Eden were once a loving couple with a beautiful child. After a tragedy took their son from them, Eden disappeared suddenly, leaving her grieving husband behind. Three years later, out of the blue, she has returned with a new husband… and as a different person, profoundly and eerily changed.

On a dark night in the Hollywood Hills, Will returns to the house in which they lived for a reunion with Eden; his new girlfriend, Kira; and the group of friends that fell apart in the wake of the tragedy. Over the course of the evening, Will is gripped by mounting evidence that something very insidious has taken hold of his ex-wife and that the new people in her life have a mysterious and horrifying agenda. But can we trust Will’s hold on reality? Or will he be the unwitting catalyst of the doom he senses?

By the end of the night, the ramifications of what happens in this house will spread far beyond its doors.

The Invitation is a pressure-cooker adult thriller that explodes into a truly shocking climax, steeped in the dark mythology of Southern California. It’s about the way grief can form or deform us, the horror of not knowing what’s inside the people you once loved, and about systems of belief and the terrifying promises they can make.
