Another comic book adaptation is on its way, and it’s just Enormous. Really, we told you the title. It’s Enormous. What do you mean you don’t care about its size and just want its title? We told you already! It’s an Enormous announcement!

Deadline is reporting that 20th Century Fox Television and New Regency Television are teaming up with Prime Universe Films to develop an event series based on the action/horror comic book Enormous from publisher 215 Ink. Andrew Poltkin of New Regency Television and Prime Universe’s Adrian Askarieh will serve as executive producers for the series. The search is on for a showrunner.

Set in the near future, the comic book series finds the world suffering a planetary resource crisis when a vast ecological cataclysm spawns The Enormous, massive beasts unlike anything ever witnessed. Displaced from atop the food chain, humankind struggles to stave off extinction, and a shattered society scrambles for refuge in the wake of the monstrous rampage.

Ellen Grace, a former school teacher who lost everything in the uprising, leads a search and rescue team into the ruins of the city in hopes of locating children orphaned by the cataclysm. But not all the remaining humans seek salvation, and in a world dominated by monsters, man is still the most dangerous animal.

Enormous originally debuted as an oversized one-shot graphic novella in 2012 and later served as the basis for a groundbreaking live-action short web film from Machinima – written by Trollhunter helmer André Øvredal and directed by Ben David Grabinski, with Askarieh producing with Pure Imagination Studios and Machinima. The comic series debuted in July 2014 and has achieved repeated release-day sellouts in its first six issues.

Toy Fair 2015: Dark Horse Reveals Special Edition Statue Based on Eric Powell’s The Goon

The Goon is one of the more popular comic characters out there, and if you’re a fan, you’ll be happy to hear that at this weekend’s New York Toy Fair 2015, Dark Horse Comics will unveil a special edition statue of him.  Read on for the details!

From the Press Release:
The Goon is a hilarious blend of pulpy horror and slapstick comedy following the ongoing misadventures of the man they call the Goon and his sidekick Franky as they battle the legions of the undead!

In late 2012, Blur Studios, Dark Horse Entertainment, and Eric Powell successfully funded a Kickstarter campaign for a feature-film-length story reel based on Powell’s beloved characters. Originally Blur Studios produced a very limited-edition faux-bronze statue for fans as an incentive, sculpted by Sean McNally, an artist involved with Blur’s Goon efforts from the start. Now Eisner Award-winning creator Eric Powell and Blur Studios are set to release this gorgeously painted brutish statue for the Goon’s growing legion of fans.

“One of the great things about developing the Goon film has been so many great artists contributing their takes on the character. Especially when it comes to Sean McNally,” remarked creator Eric Powell. “His paintings were the first concept pieces I saw when Blur was pitching the idea of an animated film and contributed to me falling in love with the idea. His Goon statue captures everything I always wanted to convey in the character.”

Standing over eight inches tall, this beautiful statue is a must-have for any fan of The Goon.

“I don’t think there’s an artist in our studio who doesn’t have at least one high-end collectible at their desk, so it seemed like a very natural decision to offer a special-edition statue as one of our Goon Kickstarter backer incentives,” noted Blur Studios’ Jeff Fowler. “We shipped about two dozen of the statues, which were created in a faux-bronze style. It really is a fantastic sculpt, and when Dark Horse contacted us about potentially creating a new painted version, we jumped all over it! The paint job on our prototype was created by another of Blur Studio’s artist alumni, Chuck Wojtkiewicz. We were aiming for a muddier, grittier, tougher-looking Goon than anything previously produced, and we think it turned out great!”

The prototype will be revealed at the Dark Horse booth, #4837, at Toy Fair 2015, held February 14-17 at Jacob Javits Center in New York City.

The Goon statue will be packaged in a full-color, oversize collector box. Its release is estimated for summer 2015 at a suggested retail price of $150. The limited-edition quantity is still to be determined as of press time.

Last night’s episode of “The Vampire Diaries” was a tear-jerker for sure, and the residents of Mystic Falls are still reeling from the events that transpired.  If you’ve recovered and are ready to look ahead to next week, here are several stills from and a preview of Episode 6.15, “Let Her Go,” which was both written and directed by exec producer Julie Plec. They even contain a peek at Bonnie, who has definitely been sidelined this season.

Not ready to let “him” go just yet?  Then stick around for a goodbye message from Steven R. McQueen (aka Jeremy Gilbert), who has bid farewell to the series (for now anyway).

“The Vampire Diaries” Episode 6.15 – “Let Her Go” (2/19/15)
After assigning tasks to each of her friends, Caroline (Candice Accola) attempts to deal with her current situation as reality begins to set in around her. While spending the day with Caroline, Elena (Nina Dobrev) grows concerned when she starts noticing a strange change in her behavior.

Meanwhile, Alaric (Matt Davis) becomes wary when Kai (guest star Chris Wood), who has begun experiencing unexpected consequences from the merge, turns to Jo (guest star Jodi Lyn O’Keefe), desperate for her help.

Elsewhere, while Bonnie (Kat Graham) finds herself in an unfamiliar situation, Matt (Zach Roerig) and Tyler (Michael Trevino) contemplate a major life change. And when Damon (Ian Somerhalder) offers Caroline advice on how to cope with everything going on around her, it forces him to revisit painful memories involving his own mother. Paul Wesley also stars. The episode was written and directed by executive producer Julie Plec.

New Friday the 13th News – Brad Fuller Gives Details

What’s a Friday the 13th without some Friday the 13th news? Platinum Dunes’ Brad Fuller recently sat down with Esquire and dropped some fresh details regarding Jason’s return to the screen.

There’s always been this supernatural aspect to these movie,” Fuller tells the mag. “It defies logic that you see Jason get killed in every movie, including ours, the 2009 one. And then he comes back, and no one’s ever really investigated what that is. So that’s something that I think about a little bit. Like it is supernatural, but what is he? Those are the things that we’re toying with. Nothing has been decided. But those type of things: How does he always come back?

Related Story: New Friday the 13th Video Game On its Way

According to the article, The Signal and V/H/S director David Bruckner, who remains on the project after being hired by Platinum Dunes in April 2014, planted the seed of direction in Fuller’s head.

You can talk to [him] about a scene that’s happening on page 18, and [he] can tell you what the ramifications are on page 82. The way he spoke about the movie was brilliant. His segment of V/H/S was so scary and unsettling and felt very real. So often you see characters do things, and you just roll your eyes and say, ‘How could they be so stupid?’ And in that movie I didn’t feel that one bit. That dread is a very hard thing, a very hard emotion to convey on film, and he did it so well. That spoke volumes to us.

“People traditionally want to understand exactly how and why things happen, and yet, something so odd happens at the end of these movies, and no one seems to question it. So people come to the movie with the expectation that the real villain will be killed and come back. And yet, we never toyed with that notion.”

If someone noticed, could Friday the 13th earn its own Dr. Loomis, the Halloween series’ in-the-know psychologist? Fuller approves of the comparison. “Those are the things that we’re asking ourselves. And we’ll see what comes of it.

Fuller stressed his desire to keep the core values intact. It will involve Jason Voorhees. It will involve kids having sex and smoking weed. They will be at camp.

Fuller hopes to be filming by the end of summer this year, but so far no writers are attached. Stay tuned.

Jason X Writer Todd Farmer Releases Original Treatment

As a special way to say Happy Friday the 13th, Todd Farmer just put his original treatment for Jason X up on his blog. Take some time and check it out! It’s certainly worth it for Friday fans!

Here’s an interesting find from March 15th 1999,” writes Farmer “If memory serves, the day before, we talked dozens of ideas. One of my favorites was Jimmy’s suggestion we set Crystal Lake in winter covered in snow. But there was concern that doing anything modern at Crystal Lake would screw up whatever the FVSJ team was planning over at New Line. I don’t recall which of the many teams that worked on FVSJ was working the script at the time. Cy and Ethan had left. I think it was the King of the Hill guys. Maybe. This was after SCREAM which had derailed FVSJ making everyone demand self-aware characters. If I recall, the King of the Hill guys had the ol’ “It was all a dream” 3rd act which led to the next team.

Anyhoo. We tossed out ideas for Jason takes Los Angeles. Jason takes the Middle-East. And I eventually pitched Jason Bladerunner, where Jason was found cryogenically frozen 500 years in the future. Though everyone involved loved the 500 years later part, the idea of creating “Future World” caused budget fears so I pitched the space truckers from Alien finding Jason rather than an Alien. Other horror icons “in space” were mentioned but I kept saying, “Right but Alien/Aliens”. The space truckers quickly became a class trip into space to make the cast younger. And I went home and started writing.

As if we needed any more reasons to be excited for the possibility of Neill Blomkamp and Sigourney Weaver teaming up for a new Alien film… On tap right now is a video interview with Weaver, who says some very interesting things about the flick… should it happen.

[Neill] kept sending me these brilliant designs and ideas and everything. We’ll see what happens,” said Weaver in an earlier interview regarding a new film in the Alien franchise with Blomkamp “We just left it at such a creepy place, sort of stranded above Earth. I was quite happy to move on to other things, and I didn’t want to go to Earth. I didn’t want to manufacture a sequel, and I felt like we were starting to do that. If something happens from this, it would be very organic and very original, and because of that, it would make me want to do it. If it was someone as talented as Neill, I’d certainly listen.”

If you’re all caught up and ready for the next season of “Penny Dreadful” to begin on its recently announced May 3rd return date, then you’ll want to check out this video from Showtime in which a group of “Dreadfuls” (i.e., super-fans) get the opportunity to discuss the show with Reeve Carney, who portrays Dorian Gray.

Most of it is a rehash of Season 1, but toward the end of the roundtable discussion Carney does tease a bit about what’s ahead:  While Season 1 was about bringing together the “family,” Season 2 deals heavily in the occult; evil is given a face: Madame Kali, someone who can be considered a “pure villain.”

In the upcoming season Vanessa (Eva Green) and Ethan (Josh Hartnett) form a deeper bond as the group, including Sir Malcolm (Timothy Dalton), Dr. Frankenstein (Harry Treadaway), and Sembene (Danny Sapani), unite to banish the evil forces that threaten to destroy them. Meanwhile, Dorian Gray (Reeve Carney), the Creature (Rory Kinnear), and Brona (Billie Piper) are all waging battles of their own.

Patti LuPone will guest star as a mysterious character of great importance in Vanessa’s past. Helen McCrory returns as Evelyn Poole (a.k.a. Madame Kali), the seductive spiritualist who will pose a unique threat to our protagonists this season, along with Simon Russell Beale, who is back as eccentric Egyptologist Ferdinand Lyle. Additional guest stars include Douglas Hodge as a Scotland Yard investigator; Sarah Greene as Poole’s powerful daughter, Hecate; and Johnny Beauchamp as a man with a singular past.

A new promo for “Bates Motel” Seasons 1 and 2 on Netflix checked in today to remind us there are worse things than being single and alone on Valentine’s Day… much, much worse.  Like “duncle” worse.

Check it out, and heed their advice if you’re not caught up and ready for Season 3’s March 9th premiere.

“Bates Motel” returns on March 9, 2015, for a gripping third season filled with family strife, murder, and mystery lead by Vera Farmiga (Norma) and Freddie Highmore (Norman). This season focuses on the evolution of the Bates family and dives head first into Norman’s waning ability to stay in denial about what’s happening to him and the lengths he will go to gain control of his fragile psyche. The dramatic events of last season leave Norma (Vera Farmiga) reluctantly more aware of Norman’s mental fragility and fearful of what he is capable of.

From executive producers Carlton Cuse (“Lost,” “The Returned”) and Kerry Ehrin (“Friday Night Lights,” “Parenthood”), “Bates Motel” serves as a contemporary prequel to the genre-defining film Psycho and provides viewers with an intimate portrayal of how Norman Bates unravels through his teenage years.

After a blissful summer of closeness with his mother, living within the safe confines of home and the Bates Motel, Norman’s fears about what really happened with Blaire Watson resurface, and Norma questions what really happened. Forced to look at the truths about Norman for the first time, their deeply intricate relationship continues to evolve. Norma finds herself turning to the other man in her life, Norman’s half-brother, Dylan (Max Thieriot), and begins to rely on him in ways that she never expected. This relationship inevitably triggers jealousy in Norman, and a new kind of love triangle between Norma and her two sons erupts. Her estranged brother and the boys’ uncle, Caleb (Kenny Johnson), returns to haunt the family throughout the season, challenging their bond even further.

Pressures of the outside world take hold of the family when newcomers Kevin Rahm (“Mad Men,” “Desperate Housewives”), Tracy Spiradakos (“Revolution”), and Ryan Hurst (“Sons of Anarchy”) arrive in White Pine Bay. After a summer of living at the Bates Motel, Sheriff Romero (Nestor Carbonell) and Norma have grown closer, but they will always have that troubling question mark surrounding Norman. Something doesn’t feel right, but in spite of his instincts, Romero finds himself continually drawn back to the Bates family — and to Norma. Emma (Olivia Cooke), also determined to find out what is happening to Norman, becomes more emboldened, fearless, and goes after the things she wants. Familiar face Bradley (Nicola Peltz) returns to surprise the family and digs up old memories.

Don’t know how Dread-worthy this is gonna turn out, but a new flick is on its way about a madman who’s looking to unleash a plague that’s connected to Dante’s Inferno.

From the Press Release:
Director/producer Ron Howard and producer Brian Grazer have cast an energetic company of some of the world’s most talented and interesting rising international stars to join Tom Hanks in Inferno, the new film in Columbia Pictures’ Robert Langdon series, which has taken in more than $1.2 billion worldwide to date.

The Imagine Entertainment production, which has a screenplay by David Koepp based on the book by Dan Brown, is slated for release on October 14, 2016, and will begin principal photography at the end of April. The project’s executive producers are Dan Brown, Anna Culp, Bill Connor, and David Householter.

Inferno continues the Harvard symbologist’s adventures on screen: When Robert Langdon wakes up in an Italian hospital with amnesia, he teams up with Sienna Brooks, a doctor he hopes will help him recover his memories and prevent a madman from releasing a global plague connected to Dante’s “Inferno.”

Felicity Jones, an Oscar nominee this year for her performance in The Theory of Everything, will star opposite Hanks as Dr. Sienna Brooks. Irrfan Khan, one of India’s biggest stars, best known for his roles in Slumdog Millionaire, Life of Pi, and The Lunchbox, takes the role of Harry Sims, also known as The Provost. French actor Omar Sy, best known for his work in the French mega-hit The Intouchables as well as X-Men: Days of Future Past, the upcoming Jurassic World, and John Wells’ upcoming untitled project, will play Christoph Bruder. Sidse Babett Knudsen, star of the Danish television series “Borgen,” will portray Dr. Elizabeth Sinskey, the head of the World Health Organization. The filmmakers are also in talks with several other internationally recognized actors for major roles.

Commenting on the announcement, Howard said, “For this film, I wanted Tom Hanks to be surrounded by an international cast of actors whose energy will underscore Robert Langdon’s life-or-death peril, the high-stakes action he takes, and the global threat that he’s trying to prevent. Felicity, Irrfan, Omar, and Sidse have all broken through with recognition here in America as well as their home countries – they are phenomenal talents, and we can’t wait to get started.”

“We’re thrilled to be making a third Robert Langdon film with Ron, Tom, and Brian,” said Doug Belgrad, president, Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group. “Inferno will deliver all of the excitement, intrigue, and international adventure that audiences expect from a film based on Dan Brown’s huge selling Langdon book series. We can’t wait to see this character back on the big screen.”

Michael De Luca and Andrea Giannetti will oversee the project for Columbia Pictures.

While I wasn’t a big fan of Wolf Creek, I simply adored Wolf Creek 2. Now we’re getting another chance to head to the Outback, but this time things are a bit different.

Australia’s 9 News is reporting that the Outback horror survival tale Wolf Creek is set to continue on the small screen with subscription video-on-demand service Stan announcing it has signed a production development deal for a six-part series.

John Jarratt, who plays the frightening antagonist of the Wolf Creek films, will reprise his role as the villain Mick Taylor in the series, which is currently in development.

The Wolf Creek series is being developed by director, writer, and producer Greg McLean, who was behind the first and second Wolf Creek films. It is understood the series will take place after the events of Wolf Creek 2.

The former Underbelly team of writer Felicity Packard, writer and producer Peter Gawler, and executive producer Greg Haddrick are also attached to the project.  The series is being produced by Screentime and Emu Creek Pictures.

Wolf Creek and the character of Mick Taylor have become household names, and the opportunity to tell a rich and complex story in his world in a high-quality drama series is a thrilling creative opportunity,” Emu Creek Pictures CEO McLean said.
