The Last Witch Hunter – Rockin’ 13th Century Bush

0
0

Straight from Vin Diesel on Facebook comes yet another image of the actor as 13th century Kaulder, who’s sporting a beard bushy enough to make the WWE’s Daniel Bryan green with envy!

The movie will open on October 23, 2015, in wide release.

Breck Eisner is directing the film from Summit Entertainment. Tormented by the loss of his family and cursed with immortal life, the last witch hunter (Vin Diesel) is all that stands between humanity and the combined forces of the most horrifying witches in history.

Mark Canton is producing via his Mark Canton Productions banner along with Bernie Goldmann and Diesel via his One Race Entertainment banner. Erik Feig, Geoff Shaevitz, and Matthew Janzen oversee the project for the studio.

Synopsis:
Five hundred years ago, war raged between humankind and witches, vicious supernatural creatures intent on unleashing the Black Death upon the world. Armies of witch hunters battled the unnatural enemy across the globe, including Kaulder (Vin Diesel), a valiant warrior who managed to slay an all-powerful Queen Witch, decimating her followers in the process. In the moments before her death, the Queen exacted her revenge by cursing Kaulder with immortality, forever separating him from his beloved wife and daughter in the afterlife. Kaulder has spent centuries hunting down rogue witches, all the while yearning for his long-lost loved ones.

Today, he is the only one of his kind–-the last witch hunter. With the help of Father Dolan, a Catholic priest, and a mystical arsenal hidden beneath New York’s St. Patrick’s Cathedral, he continues to pursue the renegades and outlaws who endanger humanity. Chief among their adversaries is Belial, a powerful rebel witch who Kaulder believes has found a way to restore the Queen Witch to power and reignite her campaign to destroy the human world.

With the help of Chloe, a goodhearted young witch (Rose Leslie), Kaulder sets out to stop Belial before he can set his plan in motion, but allies in unexpected places keep the evil witch one step ahead in a cunning cat-and-mouse pursuit that will determine the survival of the human race.

iZombie’s Rose McIver and Malcolm Goodwin on Their Unconventional Partnership

0
0

Rose McIver and Malcolm Goodwin portray crime-fighting sidekicks in The CW’s upcoming “iZombie,” and in this new promo video the two co-stars discuss their characters’ unconventional partnership.

“iZombie” premieres Tuesday, March 17th.

About “iZombie”:
Olivia “Liv” Moore was a rosy-cheeked, disciplined, over-achieving medical resident who had her life path completely mapped out… until the night she attended a party that unexpectedly turned into a zombie feeding frenzy.  Now, as one of the newly undead, Liv is doing her best to blend in and look as human as possible.  Her appearance passes for “Goth,” with shockingly pale skin and nearly white hair, and her demeanor has gone from exuberant to exhausted.

The change in Liv is baffling to her former fiancé, Major; her mother, Eva; and her best friend and roommate, Peyton, who still has the high-energy, Type-A personality that Liv has completely abandoned.  Despite her post-traumatic ennui, Liv has devised a clever way to resist her baser urges to devour fresh human brains – she’s taken a job in the Seattle coroner’s office.  In this appropriately dead-end job, Liv can secretly snack on the brains of the many Jane and John Doe corpses that make a final stop in the morgue.  Despite carefully covering her tracks, Liv’s brilliant but eccentric boss, Dr. Ravi Chakrabarti, discovers her secret and is surprisingly excited about the scientific possibilities.  Dr. Ravi even helps Liv in her search for Blaine, the zombie responsible for her current undead status.

Even with her boss’ enthusiasm, Liv remains resigned to an eternity as a zombie without hope or purpose – until she realizes that with every brain she consumes, she retains a portion of that person’s memories.  Liv suddenly begins to experience disturbing and often violent visions from the point of view of the murder victims.  Much to the surprise of Dr. Ravi and homicide detective Clive Babineaux, Liv often has detailed knowledge of crime scenes and motives that she can’t easily explain.  Posing as a psychic, she works with Detective Babineaux to investigate these crimes and discover who is responsible.  It’s not the same as being alive again, but at least she can find purpose in her undead existence by helping Clive solve the murders of those who are indeed fully dead.

The series stars Rose McIver (“Masters of Sex,” “Once Upon a Time”) as Liv, Malcolm Goodwin (“Breakout Kings”) as Clive Babineaux, newcomer Rahul Kohli as Dr. Ravi Chakrabarti, Robert Buckley (“One Tree Hill”) as Major Lilywhite, and David Anders (“Once Upon a Time,” “The Vampire Diaries”) as Blaine DeBeers.

Based upon characters created by Chris Roberson and Michael Allred and published by DC Entertainment’s Vertigo imprint, “iZOMBIE” is from Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with Spondoolie Productions and Warner Bros. Television, with executive producers Rob Thomas (“Veronica Mars,” “Party Down,” “Cupid”), Diane Ruggiero-Wright (“Veronica Mars,” “The Ex List,” “That’s Life”), Danielle Stokdyk (“Veronica Mars,” “Party Down,” “Cupid”), and Dan Etheridge (“The Carrie Diaries,” “Veronica Mars,” “Party Down”).

Alien Tampon Trailer Wants to Plug You Up

We recently told you about an upcoming film entitled Alien Tampon, which at the time we didn’t know much about. Turns out it’s actually a faux trailer directed by German filmmaker Jan Zenkner, and today we’ve got the goods for ya. So plug up, and read on!

Completed this past December after two years of production, Alien Tampon is a three-minute faux trailer that you simply have to see to believe. No word yet on whether or not Zenkner hopes to someday turn it into a feature, though we certainly wouldn’t be opposed to the idea.

Click the play button below to pull the string!

Synopsis:
A UFO breaks through the earth’s atmosphere and falls to the ground. A huge number of police officers and military units are actuated for eliminating the alien threat. A fierce battle against a superior power starts through forests and cities. Aliens are shot, blood flows, people die.

Away from this global problem, Jessica, Nicole, Marie, and Denise, together with Carmen, attend college. The girls have been arguing repeatedly, which culminates in a broil. Carmen drops her handbag in the turmoil, the contents of which are scattered over the stained asphalt. A tampon lands in a puddle of alien blood.

Carmen, humiliated once again, starts crying heavily and inserts the tampon, not noticing the green shimmer. The alien blood is contagious: She mutates and becomes a monster immediately, developing a vicious hunger for rioting, throwing plasma lightning, and killing.

Odin’s Eye Entertainment Heads Into the Deep

Save for a few notable exceptions, sharks have mostly been the subject of Syfy-style fare in recent years, which is a total bummer. Once genuinely terrifying movie monsters, they’ve become laughable computer-generated jokes, though Into the Deep hopes to change that.

Screen Daily reports today that Gerald Rascionato’s debut feature has scored a raft of sales at Berlin’s European Film Market. Sydney-based Odin’s Eye Entertainment sold the shark attack thriller to the UK (Metrodome), Japan (New Select), Middle East (Phonencia), and India (Pictureworks).

Check out the plot crunch and first image below, and expect more real soon!

Written by Rascionato and Stephen Lister, the film stars Megan Peta Hill, Joel Hogan, Josh Potthoff, and Pete Valley.

Synopsis:
Three American college students head Down Under to capture great white sharks on film. But when a freak wave capsizes their boat mid cage dive, they are left fighting for and against each other in the world’s most dangerous shark-infested waters.

Don’t Look for Zachary Quinto to Return to American Horror Story

Zachary Quinto appeared in two seasons of FX’s “American Horror Story” – as Chad Warwick in S1, known as “Murder House,” and as Dr. Oliver Thredson/Bloody Face in S2, “Asylum” – but don’t expect to see him return any time soon.

In a recent chat with Yahoo! TV, the actor was asked if there was a chance we might see him in future “AHS” episodes, and his answer was rather disheartening.

“No, I don’t think so,” said Quinto.  “I haven’t had any conversations with anybody about it, but I feel I had a likewise great experience there, and I’m interested in getting away from the genre stuff. I like the fact that [my character] Harry is the antagonist of [‘The Slap’]. I’ve played a lot of antagonist and notable villains in my journey, but I’m willing and excited to, eager to move on from that and the genre world. I’m interested in other worlds. ‘The Slap’ represented that for me. It’s real people, real worlds, real issues, nothing heightened or stylized about the worlds in which these people live, and I like that.”

Order: 1886, The (Video Game)

The Order: 1886Rated M for Mature

Developed by Ready at Dawn

Published By Sony

Face first in a pool of water, you struggle to breathe as the last gasp of air escapes you. The guard pulls you up only to spew hate into your ear and start the dance all over again. This is how The Order: 1886 begins, torture. Two seconds later, a pike is buried three inches deep in the guard’s neck. Meet our hero, Galahad, a member of the Knights of the Round Table, and under his fantastic mustache lies the stiffest upper lip this side of Westminster. Most men would crumble with a 12-inch blade buried in their abdomen, but that’s just when Galahad starts head-butting werewolves.

The Order: 1886 starts strong and draws you into its web, each step pulling you deeper into its tightly wound story. You play as Galahad and your mission is simple – along with the other members of your Order, you must quell a rebellion and stop the flesh hungry werewolves, known as the half-breeds, in a pulsating quest for the truth.

The game has been billed as a third person shooter, which it somewhat is, but a large portion of it is more akin to an interactive film, played out in cut-scenes that require player involvement. These are broken up with over the shoulder bullet spewing. The game has much more in common with titles like Heavy Rain than it does Max Payne-esque shoot-em-ups.

The heavy use of cut-scenes do well to further the games cinematic approach. Whereas a simple exchange between characters would normally be shown in the game’s standard view, The Order uses a berth of camera angles to focus on different viewpoints as a means to further flesh out the game’s stunning presentation… and this game is built on presentation. Its substance is sound, but the style is the focus. Its visual fidelity is a perfect representation of the London smog. The graphics are akin to following a nice bowl of pea soup with a fist full of gravel, The Order: 1886 does grit, and it does it perfectly.

What is so impressive about its graphics is that it is one of the first examples of low light being done particularly well on the current-gen consoles. Most games become graphically boring as they enter their night cycle, but The Order is one of the most impressive examples of high contrast lighting I’ve seen. Nothing loses its texture in shadows deep below Whitecastle, or in darkened halls of United India House.

There is one major element lacking in the game’s presentation and that is the performances. All are standard, and star Steve West (Seed of Chucky) veers into laughably bad when he cries out in despair. This is the only thing holding back an otherwise wondrous presentation.

The game has a very specific story to tell, and in order to do it, The Order needs you to play it a certain way. It tells you when you can fire your guns, when you can run, and when you can use stealth. It can feel constricting to some who are looking for a free-roaming experience, but by making this choice, the game is able to fully flesh-out the portions of The Order that are dedicated to that style. Stealth areas are particularly rewarding, as the game features a stealth kill system based off of timing. This forces strategy, do you conserve ammo and use the knife but risk being spotted and taking a bullet to the forehead? That’s up to you, but stealth kills are worth the risk, just to see Galahad plunge his monstrous blade into the throats of unsuspecting guards. The whole thing is delightfully brutal. You give a little, you get a little.

The game does lack polishing in some areas, there is virtually no reward for exploring as most of the items you will find offer little, if any, additional story or new information.

Combat is fun and also challenging. Aside from giggle fits brought on by watching an enemy search for the bowler hat you just shot off his head, The Order presents fun and challenging combat AI. You can’t just hide behind cover and pick off enemies, they are constantly changing locations in a bid to surround you. Focus on one side of the room for too long and you’ll soon have a bullet in your back. It was particularly impressive when I set my sights still to one side of a moving enemy. The game seems to sense this and they retreat away from where you are aiming. The game’s engine pushes you a step further in order to force you to hit a moving target. The only fumble with combat is you must open your weapons menu to access grenades. Generally, the moments when you need a grenade is exactly when you don’t have the time to go fumbling through a weapons menu.

However, the combat is there to accentuate the game’s impressive storyline. It, in another step of providing an authentic British experience, plays out much like a Victorian novel. There is a bit of intrigue to open, a slow rising action and a powerful climax. While the first few chapters may fall a little flat, lacking enough weight to make them quite as engaging as it could have been, it turns up the pace towards the middle and will have you on the edge of your seat by its climax. I started out shrugging at the game’s storyline, but by the time the credits rolled, I was giving it a standing ovation.

The Order is able to blend a lot of elements of fandom that any fan of fringe film should love. There’s super technology, gore drenched murders, giant werewolves, and a whole lotta’ guns that shoot electric arcs and explosive gas.

That being said, The Order: 1886 is not for everyone. If you go in expecting to hold down the fire button until the end credits you are going to be disappointed. The game wants you to sit back and get wrapped up in its tale of horror and betrayal. Yes, there is A LOT of dialogue. But if you spend Friday nights with a good book rather than sucking down Jager bombs at some disco, this game may be for you.

It must also be acknowledged that this game is roughly nine hours. That may be short bit within that time-frame it delivers an impactful experience that leaves you wanting more. I spent about $100 on this game for its collector’s edition, and walked away feeling as if I got my money’s worth. These faults seem minor when compared to just how enveloping and fun this game is. Every battle, every stealth kill, every knife fight is an exhilarating hell ride, and I was so sorry when it was over.

Despite some lingering faults, The Order: 1886 manages to overcome and maintain a quality gaming experience throughout. The game’s story is a lot like an anaconda attack. At first, it’s a loose fit, but as time progresses you’ll be breathing deep and grasping for air as it draws you deeper into its grasp. This was a promising start for a new series that is still trying to figure itself out. But mark my words, this game’s sequel will be a thing to behold.

Those of you who muse on the relative benefits and shortcomings of your favorite horse in the console pony show have always been a bit of a mystery to us in the PC gaming nobility. It sounds to me like surfs weighing in on which lord they would prefer to take the right of the first night with their wife, and with about as much sense and eloquence. For we oh blessed people of the realm of the PC have long since been without a master, having been enlightened by our lord Steam and the various lesser prophets of GoG and Green Man Gaming.

Among this hallowed pantheon stands mighty and tall the Bundles, proud champions of random deals at unbeatable prices. Chief among them is their progenitor, the Humble Bundle, who long ago dared to dream of indie games being sold at a pay what you want model, similar to World of Goo. Rejoice we of the PC realm did at the penny price tag of indie titles, some so enamored with the concept that they even paid hundreds of dollars just to keep it going. Exposure was given to the small titles and companies, and soon the big dogs wanted in on the action as well.

A measly 5 years later, and here we are with bundles from major companies. Who can forget the great THQ bundle of before the collapse, where you could buy Darksiders, Metro 2033, Company of Heroes, and several others for under $5. Well, the time has come again, and we are now gifted this time with a bundle from Square Enix, which excitingly has a number of games that readers of DreadCentral might be interested in.

For the next 10 days (I was a bit late on writing this because I am an internet journalist and a complete hack), you can purchase the bundle at one of their three price tiers. For just a dollar, you can get Hitman: Absolution and Supreme Commander 2. At this price tier, I can see most people being interested in Hitman, which is the most recent installment of the long running franchise chronicling the murderous exploits of Agent 47. While nothing supernatural is going on, the dark atmosphere sprinkled with just a bit of comedy should appeal to anyone looking for a macabre good time. With a lengthy campaign and an overwhelming amount of challenges, this one can easily keep you entertained for weeks. Not bad for a dollar.

At the $7.34 price tier, you will unlock Thief (2014), Murdered: Soul Suspect, Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director’s Cut, the Kane & Lynch Collection, and an unrevealed title. At this tier, I think most players would be interested in everything other than Kane & Lynch. Despite the dark tone and themes of psychosis and revenge, the game is also kind of a pile of crap. Thief, while not living up to the clever writing of it’s predecessors, still offers a great steampunk adventure where the player is rewarded for sticking to the shadows. Becoming the thing that goes bump in the night is incredibly rewarding, especially when you discover that something else might be lurking with you. Murdered: Soul Suspect is a brand new IP, and tells the story of a detective’s ghost trying to solve his own murder. Twists and turns abound in this adventure game with light action, and diving into the supernatural world to interview ghosts and discover their past is a side of the ghost story that hasn’t been often explored before. Deus Ex: Human Revolution is the latest installment in the lauded cyberpunk franchise, and prequel to 2000’s Deus Ex. An incredibly gripping and action packed sci-fi shooter, the open environments and unique narrative should prove rewarding to anyone looking for a dark sci-fi world to experience.

Murdered Soul Suspect

At the $15 point, you will also receive Tomb Raider (2013) and Sleeping Dogs. While Sleeping Dogs isn’t horror or sci-fi, it still is a fun cop story about a man getting too attached to the Triads he goes undercover to stop. Think Kung-Fu Grand Theft Auto with a smattering of John Woo. Tomb Raider, on the other hand, is an action survival narrative and reboot of the famed series starring Lara Croft. Stranded on an island after a shipwreck, she must fight off a ragtag bunch of survivalist thugs to save her friends and try to find a way to escape. It isn’t clear what exactly is keeping everyone on the island at first, but as the supernatural plot begins to unravel, it becomes clear that the murderous thugs are just the tip of the iceberg. Think The Road with Samurai ghosts.

And there you have it, a bundle almost certain to please anyone. With the sheer quantity of quality games in this bundle, it is almost unreasonable to pass it up. Even one of these games at this price would be a bargain, so if you are a PC gamer or have been looking for a reason to switch, this might just Humble you into it.
