Indie horror’s latest boogeyman, Pitchfork, is back in the flick Hayride 2 and right now we have your first look at the trailer and the artwork! Dig it or go fork yourself!

From the Press Release:
Freestyle Releasing and Freestyle Digital Media (FDM) announced today that they have acquired theatrical and VOD rights to the horror thriller HAYRIDE 2, from writer/director Terron R. Parsons, starring Sherri Eakin (HAYRIDE), Richard Tyson (THERE’S SOMETHING ABOUT MARY) with Jeremy D. Ivey, Jeremy Sande, David ‘Shark’ Fralick and Corlandos Scott. The film was produced by Parsons and Jonathan Kelly, with Richard Tyson and Tara Kleinpeter exec producing.

The action picks up directly following the events of “Hayride” when the survivors, including Amanda (Sherri Eakin) arrive at the county hospital to recover from the previous night’s savage massacre. Unfortunately for them, the survivors are not the only ones en route to the hospital. Rayborn, the local farmer known as “Pitchfork,” who Paramedics make the mistake of thinking is incapacitated from his wounds, brutally attacks them leaving the ambulance crashed in flames on the side of a country road. The seemingly invincible “Pitchfork” is on the loose again with one location in mind…the hospital. Meanwhile, Detective Loomis’ (Corlandos Scott) recent brush with this legendary “monster” seems to fuel his need to uncover the secrets of the man behind the mask. Where was he hiding for 20 years? Loomis finds that to stop a killer he must first learn his history, which may be closer than anyone could imagine.

“Bates Motel” returns on March 9, 2015, for a gripping third season filled with family strife, murder, and mystery lead by Vera Farmiga (Norma) and Freddie Highmore (Norman). This season focuses on the evolution of the Bates family and dives head first into Norman’s waning ability to stay in denial about what’s happening to him and the lengths he will go to gain control of his fragile psyche. The dramatic events of last season leave Norma (Vera Farmiga) reluctantly more aware of Norman’s mental fragility and fearful of what he is capable of.

After a blissful summer of closeness with his mother, living within the safe confines of home and the Bates Motel, Norman’s fears about what really happened with Blaire Watson resurface, and Norma questions what really happened. Forced to look at the truths about Norman for the first time, their deeply intricate relationship continues to evolve. Norma finds herself turning to the other man in her life, Norman’s half-brother, Dylan (Max Thieriot), and begins to rely on him in ways that she never expected. This relationship inevitably triggers jealousy in Norman, and a new kind of love triangle between Norma and her two sons erupts. Her estranged brother and the boys’ uncle, Caleb (Kenny Johnson), returns to haunt the family throughout the season, challenging their bond even further.

Pressures of the outside world take hold of the family when newcomers Kevin Rahm (“Mad Men,” “Desperate Housewives”), Tracy Spiradakos (“Revolution”), and Ryan Hurst (“Sons of Anarchy”) arrive in White Pine Bay. After a summer of living at the Bates Motel, Sheriff Romero (Nestor Carbonell) and Norma have grown closer, but they will always have that troubling question mark surrounding Norman. Something doesn’t feel right, but in spite of his instincts, Romero finds himself continually drawn back to the Bates family — and to Norma. Emma (Olivia Cooke), also determined to find out what is happening to Norman, becomes more emboldened, fearless, and goes after the things she wants. Familiar face Bradley (Nicola Peltz) returns to surprise the family and digs up old memories.

“The Vampire Diaries” and “The Originals”‘ showrunner Julie Plec and director David Nutter have a new pilot in the works for The CW entitled “Cordon,” and today a good bit of casting news for it has arrived, including a very familiar face to fans of “TVD.”

Per Variety, Chris Wood (pictured below; who’s been portraying the always entertaining Kai on Plec’s “The Vampire Diaries” this season) is set for the role of Jake, a former renegade turned cop, in “Cordon.”

David Gyasi (Interstellar) will play Lex, Jake’s best friend. Also rounding out the cast thus far are Christina Moses (“Starship: Rising,” “Starship: Apocalypse”) and Kristen Gutoskie (“Beaver Falls”).

The series follows an epidemic that breaks out in Atlanta, leaving the large city quarantined and those stuck on the inside fighting for their lives. It tells the story of loved ones torn apart and how the society that grows inside the cordon reveals both the devolution of humanity and the birth of unlikely heroes. Jake (Wood) is among those trapped inside the cordon and finds himself there to protect the ones who need him most, even though his first instinct is to save himself.

“Cordon” is based on the original Belgian series created by Carl Joos for Eyeworks. Nutter will direct the pilot and will exec produce with Plec, who penned the pilot. Eyeworks, My So-Called Company, and Warner Bros. Television will produce.

Paul Feig Looks to The Walking Dead for Ghostbusters Inspiration

The term “apples and oranges” comes to mind when thinking about how “The Walking Dead” and Ghostbusters relate to each other, but for reboot director Paul Feig they absolutely do!

I will say, I was very inspired by this show” said Feig during his appearance on “The Talking Dead.” “What I love is how they play with the danger, they play with the scariness, but also the idea that it’s always about gauntlet run. And that’s something, an element I want to bring to this Ghostbusters reboot is having to get through these various obstacles that are supernatural and all that. I really feed off of ‘The Walking Dead.'”

Thanks to Screen Crush for the transcribing!

Ghostbusters is set for release on July 22, 2016. The new cast includes Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones.

Per Deadline, Jessica Chastain (below left; Crimson Peak, A Most Violent Year) has joined the cast opposite Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron, who reprise their roles from the first installment. Nick Frost also returns as the dwarf Nion.

In addition, Emily Blunt (below right), rumored for weeks, has finally closed her deal to star as the villain.

Dys- (2015)

Dys-Starring Shannon Lark, Alex Goldrich,

Directed by Maude Michaud

A feminist, activist, and key member in Women in Horror Month, indie filmmaker Maude Michaud is no new face to horror. In fact, she’s been creating films since 2001 under her production company, Quirk Films. Michaud wrote, produced, and directed her recent award-winning feature film Dys-. Dys- explores the collapse of a marriage during a massive virus outbreak in which a Montreal couple, Eva (Shannon Lark) and Sam (Alex Goldrich), are confined to their small apartment to avoid contamination.

The virus plaguing Montreal causes blood coughing fits, confusion, and rage. However, Dys- deals more with the characters at hand than the terror outside. Eva and Sam’s marriage is broken before the concern for public health. There’s a tension between them and early on we discover that neither character is particularly likable. This was a conscious decision from Michaud. We are forced to look in from the outside as Eva and Sam’s stories unravel in front of us. Lark delivers a beautiful performance as Eva, a model sinking into depression and coming to terms with her aging body and change of career. Goldrich is a perfect partner as Sam, a photographer dealing with his own guilt for leaving Eva to work in New York, and finds himself responsible for her depression. Michaud paints a very clear picture of what it’s like to be with someone who doesn’t understand mental health issues, as Sam often undermines Eva’s feelings and makes statements like “calm down,” and “you need to relax” when Eva expresses any emotion.

As we follow Eva and Sam’s descent, we realize that neither party has a true understanding of what’s happening to them or around them. There is some serious body horror to be had inside Dys-, and cringe worthy moments that aren’t often seen within the horror genre. At times the gore is gratuitous, but effective. Dys- seamlessly blends dysphoria and dysfunction and I often found myself questioning “how much of this is real?” Michaud has found her voice within this film and her vision is clear.

Dys- explores the human brain and the female body effortlessly. She keeps us on the edge of our seat as we dive deeper into the characters’ madness and are forced to watch to the end, even though at times it would be easier to look away.

Richard Stanley Vows to Resurrect His Remake of The Island of Dr. Moreau

$

Richard Stanley’s ill-fated remake of The Island of Dr. Moreau has become the thing of legend, as he was fired from the 1996 film after only three days and replaced by John Frankenheimer. The disastrous tale is told in documentary Lost Soul: The Doomed Journey of Richard Stanley’s Island of Dr. Moreau, and now he’s vowing that the project isn’t dead just yet.

In an interview with LA Weekly, Stanley opened up about his dream project, revealing that Frankenheimer’s vision barely represents the one he intended to bring to the screen. He has never quite forgotten about the film that almost was, and he’s apparently not going to sleep until he can make that decades-old dream a reality.

Stanley says that David Gregory’s documentary, screening in limited theaters throughout February and March, has reignited interest in his original screenplay, and he seems quite sure that it’s only a matter of time before the cameras start rolling.

At this stage, it looks very likely,” said Stanley. “It’s too early for me to name the company involved, but I was actually put under contract in January to write a new draft of The Island of Dr. Moreau, which is already completed and delivered. The project has come back to life, which I think is a side effect of David’s work.

I suspect the original script simply came too early. If it had come now, it would make sense as a VFX oddity. I think Dr. Moreau is going to be now better. I’ve had 20 years of hindsight. The plan is it’s going to resurface initially as a graphic novel next year from the Humanoids, who’ve picked it up. And if that works well, then the insane plan is to develop the comic book back into a movie again.”

Lost Soul Release Details:
LOST SOUL – THE DOOMED JOURNEY OF RICHARD STANLEY’S ISLAND OF DR. MOREAU, a Severin Films production, will be hitting several screens across the US in February and March, and a theatrical trailer is now available. LOST SOUL has been a hit on the festival circuit, garnering several awards and exuberant critical and audience response. Richard Stanley, the subject of the documentary, will be making rare US appearances at Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Phoenix dates along with director David Gregory.

The filming of the ill-fated 1996 version of H. G. Welles’ THE ISLAND OF DR. MOREAU is the stuff of legend. For the first time since he was unceremoniously escorted off his longtime dream project, Richard (HARDWARE, DUST DEVIL) Stanley reveals in detail his spectacular original vision and how it was all ripped apart at the seams. Cast members including Fairuza Balk, Marco Hofschneider, and Rob Morrow; executives and producers Robert Shaye, Edward R. Pressman, and Tim Zinnemann; concept artist Graham Humphreys; members of the Stan Winston Makeup Effects team; as well as a host of cast and crew members recall the stories first-hand of colossal egos run amok, a production way out of control, and how the original filmmaker was banished from the set but wouldn’t let go.

Directed by David Gregory (PLAGUE TOWN, THEATRE BIZARRE, THE GODFATHERS OF MONDO), this is the sensational story of what could have been a science fiction masterpiece, which became a huge creative and financial disaster; the story of the outsider artist versus Hollywood machine.

Theatrical engagements have been booked by David Szulkin.

Get ready for a double dose of telekinesis terror! Scream Factory presents Carrie & The Rage: Carrie 2 on Blu-ray on April 14, 2015, with bonus features that include new audio commentaries with Carrie director David Carson and The Rage: Carrie 2 director Katt Shea and director of photography Donald Morgan.

CARRIE
Angela Bettis (May) stars in this 2002 adaptation of Stephen King’s classic tale of horror and retribution, featuring eye-popping special effects and a shocking, all-new twist ending! Carrie White (Bettis) is a lonely, awkward teenage girl who just doesn’t fit in. At school, she endures her classmates’ constant ridicule, and at home she suffers endless psychological torture at the hands of her fanatically religious mother (Patricia Clarkson, Six Feet Under). But Carrie has a secret. She’s been cursed with the terrifying power of telekinesis. And when her tormenters commit an act of unforgivably cruel humiliation at the prom, they’ll soon learn a deadly lesson. Taking its inspiration from King’s book rather than the original film, Carrie was written by Bryan Fuller (TV’s Hannibal, Pushing Daisies) and stars Emilie de Ravin (Lost), Katharine Isabelle (See No Evil 2, Ginger Snaps) and Chelan Simmons (Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil).

THE RAGE: CARRIE 2
In this horrifying 1999 sequel to Brian DePalma’s 1976 classic, Rachel (Emily Bergl, The Knick) is a high school misfit who gets caught in the middle of a vicious prank orchestrated by a group of jocks that turns deadly. Once the police bring one of the boys in for questioning, his teammates target Rachel for squealing, and hatch a devious scheme to publicly humiliate her. But messing with Rachel is worse than playing with fire, for when her temper’s crossed, it triggers a powder-keg of anger and unleashes horrifying powers that turn a wild teen house party into a wilder mad-house inferno! Also starring Jason London (Dazed And Confused), Rachel Blanchard (TV’s Clueless), Mena Suvari (American Beauty) and Amy Irving (reprising her role as Sue Snell from Brian DePalma’s original Carrie), this fast-paced, white-knuckle revenge fantasy takes telekinesis to the next level of terror!
