There’s Trouble in Twin Peaks

Distressingly enough, it sounds as if we may not be getting our next servings of cherry pie and damned fine coffee after all. Or at least not as soon as hoped.  Fansite “Welcome to Twin Peaks” is reporting some disturbing news.

During a sold-out Q&A event and conversation with David Strattan at QPAC, director and artist David Lynch was asked whether “Twin Peaks” is definitely happening.  Lynch, breaking his self-imposed code of silence, responded: “I don’t know. There are complications.

The show’s co-creator and director added it’s not a funding issue, but a trusted source told Welcome to Twin Peaks that while the scripts are finished after nearly four years in the making, contract negotiations aren’t going as expected.

I wouldn’t panic just yet; let’s all stay positive and hope for the best, shall we?

A&E Bringing Let the Right One In to the Small Screen

One of the big trends in the world of entertainment right now is turning popular horror movies into TV series with shows like “Hannibal” and “Bates Motel” proving that it’s not always a bad idea. Up next, A&E brings one of the best vampire flicks of all time to the small screen. Details await!

Per THR, the network is teaming with “Teen Wolf” showrunner Jeff Davis and actor-screenwriter Brandon Boyce (Apt Pupil) to adapt the Swedish vampire film Let the Right One In, which was of course already remade in 2010 as the American feature Let Me In.

Based on the best-selling Swedish book by John Ajvide Lindqvist that was subsequently adapted into the critically acclaimed 2008 movie directed by Tomas Alfredson, “Let the Right One In” will center on a bullied teen boy who befriends a young female vampire. When a series of strange murders pops up in their small Vermont town, it attracts the attention of a federal marshal with a mysterious past of his own.

The drama, which is in the development stage, is being produced in-house via A+E Studios and Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements’ (“Teen Wolf,” “Aquarius”) Tomorrow Studios. Davis, Boyce, Adelstein, Clements, and Hammer’s Simon Oakes will executive produce. The property was optioned from Hammer Films Productions, which produced the 2010 English-language film adaptation Let Me In.

The Divine Tragedies – New Artwork and Trailer

Another trailer and several new one-sheets for Jose Prendes’ The Divine Tragedies have arrived, and we have them for you right here cold and twitching. We like that! Check it out!

From the Press Release:
Brothers Jon and James Kondelik are moving closer to the final reveal of their serial killer thriller The Divine Tragedies. This film has already completed production with several new and older horror veterans attached. Based on the famous Leopold and Loeb murder case, Dual Visions presents a new poster for the film.

The Divine Tragedies is a film which takes its story from truth. Leopold and Loeb were two intellectuals who thought they could get away with the perfect murder in 1924’s Chicago. In Jose Prendes’ vision the two killers are brothers. Set in the modern era, Charles Brubaker (Graham Denman) and Thomas Lo Bianco (Jon Kondelik) believe they are above the law and kill without mercy. Their murders become more and more gruesome until Detective Homer (Ken Foree) is able to intervene. But Homer is only a few steps away from his own tragedy.

Early reviews have been favorable for the film. Josh Soriano of the horror website Icons of Fright noted the film’s many influences: “…like the word of Palahniuk through the eyes of David Lynch… an uncompromising and original horror. The Divine Tragedies is surreal in scope as imagined by director Prendes.” As well, Matt Boiselle of Dread Central enjoyed the film’s darker tones: “…ferocious. This tragedy is simply divine, one of the better films I’ve personally dropped eyeballs on in some time.”

Synopsis:
The Divine Tragedies, based loosely on the famous Leopold and Loeb murder case, tells the tale of Charles Brubaker and his half-brother, Thomas Lo Bianco, who concoct a deadly game to test their superior intelligence against the dimwitted masses. This game will eventually lead to murder. And when Genevieve, a beautiful single mother, enters their lives, they finally find the perfect girl for their first kill. But problems arise when they quickly discover that Detective Homer Gaul (Ken Foree), a cop with a very special gift, is hot on their trail.

Today marks the VOD release of Ana Lily Amirpour’s vampire Western A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night, and so it’s only fitting that today also brings casting news for her next film. It’s a cannibal flick titled The Bad Batch, and holy balls is the cast impressive.

Deadline reports that both Jim Carrey and Keanu Reeves have signed on to star in the dystopian love story, alongside Diego Luna and Suki Waterhouse. As was recently rumored, the always badass Jason Momoa is also officially on board.

Production is set to start in L.A. on the Texas wasteland cannibal tale next month. Waterhouse will play the charter of Arlen, Luna will play Jimmy, Reeves will play The Dream, Carrey The Hermit, and Momoa is Miami Man.

Amirpour penned the screenplay and is directing.

Described as a cross between The Road Warrior and Pretty in Pink, The Bad Batch is a post-apocalyptic tale set in a Texas wasteland where a community of cannibals reside. The film is a love story about a cannibal (Momoa) and his food.

Peripheral, The (2015)

The PeripheralStarring Lynn Lowry, Randy Franks

Written and directed by JT Seaton

Horror favorite Lynn Lowry appears as the level-headed Dr. Joanne Redding in The Peripheral, a neat little short that runs just over 10 minutes long. Seated alone and reviewing tape from one of her psychological patients, Dr. Redding suddenly gets an unexpected visitor named Kenny that brings her a terrifying story. Kenny is seeing monsters in the periphery of his vision. These monsters are coming for him, but they disappear when he looks directly at them. What’s a doctor to do?

The Peripheral is straightforward. Writer/director JT Seaton comes at the audience with a bit of tension right of the bat and gradually turns the screws as the short rolls on. The story is a simple one. It’s a monster movie and doesn’t try to be anything else. The twist is the monsters only appear on the edge of the victim’s vision (somewhat reminiscent of a particularly frightening episode of “Amazing Stories” decades ago that featured a killer who could only be seen in mirrors) presumably until it’s too late, and then there they are, right in your face all teeth and claws.

Lowry gives us her usual fantastic performance. The woman is a pro. She has her own signature delivery and always seems to masterfully add to the tension of a film, easing us into the story until a thrilling climax. Equally as effective is Lowry’s co-star, Randy Franks, who plays Kenny. Franks needs to convince us that Kenny is at the end of his rope from dealing with the creatures he’s seeing. He needs to convey, trepidation, fear and eventually pure terror…and he does so nicely.

Aside from Lowry and Franks, the other entity on the screen, the aforementioned monster, was brought to life by Ron Cole. Cole used the beloved art of stop-motion animation to haunt The Peripheral and delivers a satisfactory scare to a somewhat predictable conclusion.

Currently making its festival rounds, The Peripheral is well deserving of a look. Lowry is always worth the price of admission herself and paired with Franks, the duo do a quality job bringing the story to life. Seaton penned a serviceable story and directed stealthily, adding some interesting angles and unique looks at the good doctor and her patient. Take a look at The Peripheral, you’ll like what you see…until it kills you.
