0
0

With a start date for Machete Kills drawing closer and closer, it was only a matter of time before the casting news started rolling in and it's starting with some regulars.

According to Bloody Disgusting the early word has come that both Jessica Alba and Michelle Rodriguez, who played Agent Sartana and Luz/She in the first film are in talks to appear in the second film to either reprise their characters or ... well who knows? Never under estimate the mad genius that is Robert Rodriguez!

We here at Dread Central would like to personally request Linday Lohan return as the gunslinging sex nun.

Machete Kills is a Quick Draw Production, produced by Rodriguez, Rodnyansky, Quick Draw’s Aaron Kaufman and Iliana Nikolic, Sergei Bespalov, and Rick Schwartz. A script has been written by Kyle Ward and developed by Rodriguez and Marcel Rodriguez.

The new film finds Machete (Danny Trejo) recruited by the U.S. Government for a mission which would be impossible for any mortal man. Machete must battle his way through Mexico to take down a madman cartel leader and an eccentric billionaire arms dealer who has hatched a plan to spread war across the planet with a weapon in space. Machete takes on an army in an effort to dismantle a plan for global anarchy.

Feathers Fly in New International Raven Artwork

Time to add some international flavors and spices to your plate of Edgar Allan Poe inspired goodness! That's right, kids! We've got a new bit of eye candy for The Raven! Check it out before it flies the coop!

Look for James McTeigue's The Raven starring John Cusack, Luke Evans and Brendan Gleeson on April 27th, 2012.

The Raven begins with Poe arriving in Baltimore as a serial killer is terrorizing the city, using the writer’s stories as the inspiration for his crimes. Poe is a suspect at first, but he eventually joins forces with a police inspector to solve the crimes and save the woman he loves.

Synopsis
In this gritty thriller, Edgar Allan Poe (John Cusack, Being John Malkovich) joins forces with a young Baltimore detective (Luke Evans, Immortals) to hunt down a mad serial killer who’s using Poe’s own works as the basis in a string of brutal murders. Directed by James McTeigue (V for Vendetta), the film also stars Alice Eve (Sex and the City 2), Brendan Gleeson (In Bruges) and Oliver Jackson-Cohen (Faster).

When a mother and daughter are found brutally murdered in 19th century Baltimore, Detective Emmett Fields makes a startling discovery: the crime resembles a fictional murder described in gory detail in the local newspaper—part of a collection of stories penned by struggling writer and social pariah Edgar Allan Poe. But even as Poe is questioned by police, another grisly murder occurs, also inspired by a popular Poe story.

Realizing a serial killer is on the loose using Poe’s writings as the backdrop for his bloody rampage, Fields enlists the author’s help in stopping the attacks. But when it appears someone close to Poe may become the murderer’s next victim, the stakes become even higher and the inventor of the detective story calls on his own powers of deduction to try to solve the case before it’s too late.

James Cameron Wants More Arnold Action in Fifth Terminator Film

0

Though it's unclear just what the status is of the next flick in The Terminator franchise, one thing is abundantly clear ... the series just isn't the same without star Arnold Schwarzenegger. Series creator James Cameron thinks so, too.

In a recent interview with MTV, Cameron offered the following thoughts on the next flick should it happen:

"I was talking to [Schwarzenegger] back in the fall about a new 'Terminator' film and quietly advising on that, I suppose you could say. I was trying to be as encouraging as possible. Frankly, at that time, I thought it needed to be more about him," Cameron said. "I told him he should not do it until it's focused on his character or he shouldn't do it. I think there are some great stories that can be told about that character that haven't even been thought of yet."

Can't say we disagree. The only good part of the putrid Terminator Salvation was when a spruced up CGI Arnie showed up and started kicking ass!

AMC Looking to Add to its Genre Line-up With Low Winter Sun

AMC Looking to Add to its Genre Line-up With Low Winter SunWith the success of "The Walking Dead" and "The Killing", it's no surprise that cable network AMC is looking to keep walking on the dark side of the entertainment fence; and that's just what they might be doing with "Low Winter Sun."

According to Deadline, in what has become a network tradition, AMC held its pilot script showcase last week. The annual event, nicknamed by agents and producers “bake-off,” once again featured six scripts identified by AMC brass as the strongest pilot contenders. In a series of presentations, the writers/producers of each project laid out their vision for their show beyond the pilot with the help of visual aids, including demo reels. One of the six scripts that made the cut this year is Chris Mundy‘s "Low Winter Sun", an adaptation of the New Zealand Gothic murder mystery series.

We'll keep our ears to the ground for ya on this one. Stay tuned.

Snow Shark: Ancient Snow Beast Lands Distribution; New Artwork Revealed

0
0

Snow Shark: Ancient Snow Beast, the feature film debut of screenwriter, director, and actor Sam Qualiana, has been acquired for worldwide distribution by Independent Entertainment, part of the Alternative Cinema network. The deal includes DVD, VOD, cable, and digital downloads.

This is a real achievement for everyone involved with Snow Shark,” says Gregory Lamberson, one of the film’s producers. “As many filmmakers have come to realize, the market for independent genre films is brutal, and obtaining distribution can seem like an impossible goal. We’re thrilled to be working with Independent Entertainment and the wonderful people at Alternative Cinema. I know they’ll give this film the tender loving care it deserves.

Other Alternative Cinema brands include Shock-O-Rama Cinema, Seduction Cinema, and Camp Motion Pictures. The company offers Lamberson’s first three films, Slime City, Undying Love, and Naked Fear on the two-disc DVD Greg Lamberson’s Slime City Grindhouse Collection.

The plan is to release the film on DVD in the winter, which is appropriate for the subject matter,” says Lamberson. “This will give us the chance to screen at film festivals over the summer and fall. Sam and the cast did a great job, and this is a real audience picture; we’re going to build word of mouth ahead of the release.

Snow Shark: Ancient Snow Beast, just had its world premiere in Buffalo; it was filmed in neighboring Lockport, New York. Its next screening will be at the Bronx Week Film Festival on Saturday, May 12th, at 8:30 pm. The film’s other producers include Marc J. Makowski, John Maclay, Mike Gessel, Michael Faust, and Richard Chizmar of Cemetery Dance Publications. Brett Piper and Mark Polonia edited, Michael Girard Paul composed the score, and Arick Szymecki, John Renna, and Andrew Lavin created the special effects.

Snow Shark: Ancient Snow Beast is a creature feature which details the exploits of a prehistoric shark, freed by an earthquake, which lives in the snow and preys upon unsuspecting teenagers, strippers, and hunters. Sam Qualiana plays the lead, a survivor of an earlier attack. He is joined by Jackey Hall (Patient Zero), John Renna, Michael O’Hear (Slime City Massacre), and Kathy Thiel Murphy (Black Guy on a Rampage: Homicidal Vengeance). Qualiana’s father, CJ, plays the town sheriff, and the rest of his family helped out behind the scenes.

Synopsis:
After a scientist (Michael O’Hear) discovers the titular creature is feasting on the local residents of a small Western New York town, the mayor (Robert Bozek) hires cryptozoologists and a shark hunter (Andrew Elias, Kathy Murphy, Andy Taylor) to help the sheriff (C.J. Qualiana, the director’s father) track down the beast. At the same time a former snow shark attack survivor (director Qualiana) makes plans of his own to stop the creature. Jackey Hall (Chainsaw Cheerleaders) plays a woman who demands answers when her husband disappears.

Say what you will about The Asylum, they seem to be on a roll in 2012. 2 Headed Shark Attack and Air Collision were both ridiculously entertaining, and the full trailer for Nazis at the Center of the Earth gives me hope the fun streak will continue.

Jake Busey (Starship Troopers) and Dominique Swain (Lolita) lead a team of Antarctic researchers that find more than they could ever have bargained for beneath the ice. Masked stormtroopers drag them deep underground to a fortress stronghold near the earth’s core where zombified Nazis led by the diabolical Dr. Josef Mengele are on the verge of unleashing the Fourth Reich upon an unsuspecting mankind.

Joe Lawson directs. Paul Bales scripts. Listeners of “Coast to Coast AM” with George Noory scream, “I told you so!”

Quiet Earth got hold of the exclusive full length trailer for this Asylum epic arriving on DVD and VOD on April 24th and its well worth a look. Nazis, zombies, UFOs, mad scientist experiments, hollow earth: only thing missing is Indiana Jones.

Some good news has come in regarding FEARnet's new show "Holliston". Despite it being just a few weeks old, the network has already renewed it for a second season with new episodes heading our way in the summer of 2013.

Per Deadline, FEARnet GM and president Peter Block said of the show created by Adam Green and produced by ArieScope Pictures, “'Holliston' resonates with both genre junkies and more mainstream comedy fans alike, making our first push into original programming a successful attempt for diversifying our schedule and showing the breadth of our audience.

Returning alongside Green and and his co-star Joe Lynch for Season 2 are Laura Ortiz; Corri English, the lead singer of Brokedown Cadillac; Twisted Sister’s Dee Snider; and Oderus Urungus, lead singer of GWAR. Green said he has been “overjoyed” by the audience’s reaction to the show. “It’s amazing to watch the characters be embraced so quickly and to see fans quoting it on Twitter, Facebook, and at conventions around the country,” he said.

"Holliston" premiered April 3 and runs along with "Todd & the Book of Pure Evil" as part of FEARnet’s Twisted Comedy Block on Tuesday nights. Speaking of which, here are a few clips from tonight's Episode 1.03, "Skunked", which airs at 10:30 PM.

"Holliston" Episode 1.03 - "Skunked" Synopsis (4/17/12 air date):
While trying to find their cat Axl, Adam and Joe wind up getting skunked. When Corri and Laura head to the only open convenience store in search of vinegar to help the boys get the smell off, they are detained by the police who are suspicious of their purchase.

About "Holliston"
Adam and Joe are two down on their luck guys living in the small New England town of Holliston, Massachusetts, and struggling to chase their dream of becoming horror movie filmmakers... all while dealing with life, their day jobs, and the opposite sex. With a cast that includes a cross-dressing sexually inappropriate boss, a mentally handicapped cat, and an imaginary friend/alien who lives in the closet... "Holliston" re-invents the traditional sit-com as we know it and breaks new (and sometimes bloody) ground.

Night of the Living Dead: Origins Selling Internationally

0
0

It's been a long road to get Night of the Living Dead: Origins, one of several recent new takes on the classic George A. Romero film, out of the starting gate and into the hands of the general public, but that could soon be changing.

According to Variety the newly formed sales banner Meyers Media Group will handle international sales on director Zebediah De Soto's Night of the Living Dead: Origins 3D from Simon West Prods.

This announcement came on April 16th following a screening of the flick hosted by West for three dozen buyers at the SoHo House in West Hollywood.

West (director of Expendables 2) is producing alongside Jib Polhemus (The Mechanic), Gus Malliarodakis and Matty Mangone-Miranda. Written by De Soto, David Reuben Schwartz and Warren Davis, Night of the Living Dead: Origins 3D is a motion-capture reimagining of George A. Romero's 1968 zombie film.

In the film Tony Todd stars as Ben, Danielle Harris as Barbra, Joe Pilato as Harry Cooper, Alona Tal (Jo on "Supernatural") as Helen Cooper, Bill Moseley as Johnny (reprising his portrayal of the same character in Tom Savini's 1990 NOTLD remake), Erin Braswell as Judy, Mike Diskint as Tom, Jesse Corti ("Heroes") as a news reporter and Cornell Womack (Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen) as a no-nonsense New York cop.

Look for more soon. In the interim you can check out some leaked test footage from two years ago made specifically to test some 3D effects work. Once again it is not indicative to the final product.

The year: 2241. The transport vessel Pandora hurtles through space, bringing an alien energy source known as Thanatos to fuel-starved planet Earth. The Pandora's six-person crew is headed by Captain Holloway, a tough, no-nonsense woman, recently promoted after the untimely death of former captain, and her fiancé, Rubini. Some of the crew are suspicious of Thanatos, which almost seems to have a life of its own. A few thousand miles from Earth, the Pandora receives a distress signal from the Diana, a derelict spacecraft. Against the crew's wishes, Holloway decides to investigate. The ship first appears eerily vacant, until the surprise appearance of four beautiful women, all nurses on their way to a new medical facility, the only survivors of a vicious pirate attack.

It doesn't take long before the "nurses" reveal their true nature: They are the space pirates, and they immediately begin taking over the Pandora, seducing and capturing the crew. In the melee, Thanatos is ruptured, spewing noxious green fluid all over one of the pirates. She begins to physically mutate, her features growing monstrous as she becomes a bloodthirsty Plaguer! One by one, the Pandora crew and pirates fall victim to the virus, as they are attacked and then reborn as demonic, ravenous creatures. Meanwhile, Thanatos grows stronger and begins to control the ship, sending it on a dead-set voyage toward Earth. Time is running out, and the pirates and crew must reluctantly join forces if they are going to survive. The only way to stop the contagion is to destroy Thanatos - but how?

Synopsis:
In this graphic and violent, post-apocalyptic thriller, nine strangers — all tenants of a New York high-rise apartment — escape a nuclear attack by hiding out in the building’s bunker-like basement. Trapped for days underground with no hope for rescue, and only unspeakable horrors awaiting them on the other side of the bunker door, the group begins to descend into madness, each turning on one another with physical and psycho-sexual torment. As supplies dwindle, and tensions flare, they grow increasingly unhinged by their close quarters and hopelessness. Each act against one another becomes more depraved than the next. While everyone in the bunker allows themselves to be overcome by desperation and lose their humanity, one survivor holds onto a thin chance for escape, even with no promise of salvation on the outside.

Synopsis
After a bank robbery gone wrong, three brothers head for home, hoping their MOTHER (Rebecca De Mornay) can provide them with a getaway. The youngest brother, JOHNNY (Matt O'Leary), has been shot, and their back-stabbing former partner has gotten away with all the cash.

But when the brothers get home, they find that all their stuff is gone and Mother is nowhere to be found: She lost the house months ago in a foreclosure. The new owners, BETH and DANIEL SOHAPI (Jaime King and Frank Grillo), and their guests, gathered for an ill-timed birthday party, become the brothers' unwitting hostages.

Not long after, Mother arrives, along with the boys' sister LYDIA (Deborah Ann Woll), and it soon becomes clear that Mother will do absolutely anything to protect her children. In one terrifying evening she brilliantly takes control of the situation and masterminds her sons' escape from the law.
