Kane Hodder and Tom Savini Clash with Robin Hood: Ghosts of Sherwood

He robbed from the rich and gave to the poor. Now he’s going to eat the rich and maybe even the poor while he’s at it. That’s because in Robin Hood: Ghosts of Sherwood, he and his Merry Men are undead and haunting their famous forest. And it’s not a Syfy movie, either.

Here’s the synopsis for Oliver Krekel’s Robin Hood: Ghosts of Sherwood:

This is the fictitious tale of a cursed Robin Hood who has sold his soul to a witch to stay alive. But death never sleeps, and soon Robin dies in a battle. When Marian and Little John try to bring Robin and his Merry Men back to life by using the witch's potions, they unfortunately turn the dead to the living dead.

With the use of the potions that Marian took from the witch’s cave, she and Little John are forced to fight for their lives against their former friends and the accuracy of Robin’s bow. The pair is able to fight their way out of Sherwood Forest and find that what’s left of the Zombie Robin Hood and his remaining Zombie Merry Men cannot leave the forest. Marian and Little John decide they will scour the Earth to see if they can find a potion to save their friends but until then will leave them where they are as the "Ghosts of Sherwood".

Thank goodness they let us know this is a fictitious tale because for a moment I was afraid this might be a docudrama.

TomCat Films is currently shopping around the film starring Martin Thom as Robin Hood, Ramona Kuen as Maid Marion, everyone’s favorite “Jason” Kane Hodder as Little John, and F/X guru Tom Savini as the Sheriff of Nottingham.

Here’s the trailer for Robin Hood: Ghosts of Sherwood. According to IMDB the movie will be in 3D for some reason.

Microcinema Short Film Now Available to Watch Online

In our ongoing attempt to make you guys aware of every horror project that's available to be seen these days, we now bring you some preliminary information on Massachusetts-based Harvest Tide Productions' first online and internationally self-distributed horror short independent film Microcinema.

    From the Press Release:
Written and directed by Harvest Tide Productions co-founder Skip Shea, Microcinema recently won a fan-based 2012 Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Award Honorable Mention for Best Short Film and this past Friday, April 13th, screened at the Shock Stock Convention at Centennial Hall in London, Ontario.

“Harvest Tide and the cast and crew of Microcinema are very honored and grateful to win a Rondo Honorable Mention,” said Shea. “It represents the voice of the fans, and there really is no better judge in the horror genre. To be added to the Shock Stock Convention line-up is equally exciting. It is one of the largest horror conventions in Canada, which only confirms that our cult status is growing. We are quite honored to be included."

Starring Alex Lewis and Aurora Grabill, Microcinema is the story of Peter Martell, a highly educated, well-to-do young man with too much free time on his hands. He spends it watching snuff films. One day he makes the bold decision to cross the line from observer to participant, aspiring to bring a philosophical element to his own kind of snuff films. Ready to go to work, he tracks his first victim into a haunted New England wood, where the boundary between participant and observer takes a different turn.

Microcinema was originally a storyline for one of the episodes of Harvest Tide’s new horror web series “Longreach,” written by William DeCoff. “Longreach” follows the demise of Daniel Jedrek, the sergeant at arms for the Longreach Association, an ancient global charitable organization that takes charity to extremes. The Harvest Tide production team – Shea, DeCoff, Will Smyth, and Emily King – agreed that Microcinema stood on its own in the burgeoning new online entertainment and media arena and delivers a brutal and gruesome tale to horror film fans.

Microcinema is now available on the film’s website for just 99 cents. Check out some artwork and the trailer below.

First Hard Details Emerge Regarding American Horror Story Season 2

    0

First Hard Details Emerge Regarding American Horror Story Season 2"American Horror Story" co-creator Ryan Murphy recently dished the first real details we've seen for the show's second season, including its location, time frame, and what some old and new faces will be doing once the spookery begins!

"[Season 2] is set on the East Coast at an institution for the criminally insane that is run by Jessica [Lange]," Murphy said on April 18th during a panel promoting the series at the TV Academy in North Hollywood.

In addition, the second season will find the cast in a new era, Murphy said. "It's a completely different world and has nothing to do with Season 1; there's not a mention of Season 1," he noted. "The second season is set in a completely different time period."

Murphy then teased that there could also be more familiar faces from Season 1 set to take on new characters when the series returns in the fall, with a few possibly in attendance Wednesday. "The idea is to work with actors that you love and are excited by. The second season, everybody who was announced, there will be other people up on this stage who are not announced who will also be in it but are playing the polar opposite of what they were in the first season in every way," he said.

Murphy was joined on stage by cast members including Connie Britton (Vivien), Dylan McDermott (Ben), Alexandra Breckenridge (Moira), Denis O'Hare (Larry), Evan Peters (Tate), Zachary Quinto (Chad), Jessica Lange (Constance), Lily Rabe (Nora); co-creator Brad Falchuk; and executive producer Dante Di Loreto.

The producers were also tight-lipped on whether or not Quinto could play one of the criminally insane, only saying "maybe," while the Star Trek actor -- who was sporting Spock eyebrows -- embraced the opportunity to do something new. "The notion of coming back and playing something totally different and in a totally different world with many of the same actors, it's probably one of the more exciting things that has come across my plate in recent years," he said. "I'm really looking forward to it."

As for new cast member Adam Levine, Murphy revealed that "The Voice" judge signed on immediately after hearing of the role. "He's a sexy guy so he needs to play a sexy guy, but the guy that is different than who you think he would play," he said. "I pitched him the part and he listened, slack jawed, and simply said, 'I'm in.' The second season is fun, sexy and baroque. It has a lot of meat to it; it's a really gritty part. He's with a girl, and they play characters called The Lovers."

More details -- including whether or not French actress Lizzie Brochere will play a nemesis for Lange's character -- could emerge soon as producers are set to present their vision for Season 2 to FX next week.

    Stay tuned.

    Rest in Peace: Jonathan Frid

Rest in Peace: Jonathan FridWe have some very sad news to pass on to our readers today as reports are coming in that the great Jonathan Frid, aka Barnabas Collins from "Dark Shadows", has passed away at the age of 87 in Ontario, Canada.

Frid, who was born December 2nd, 1924, reportedly died of natural causes at Juravinski Hospital in Hamilton, Ontario, this past Friday, April 13th. In addition to his iconic portrayal of Barnabas on the soap that ran on ABC from June, 1966-April, 1971, the actor also starred in the 1973 television movie The Devil's Daughter and the 1974 horror film Seizure.

He filmed a cameo appearance - his final acting credit - in Tim Burton's forthcoming Dark Shadows film remake, which stars Johnny Depp as Barnabas.

"The death of Jonathan Frid has left all of us at MPI deeply saddened," said Malik Ali, CEO of MPI Media Group, home of the "Dark Shadows" series on DVD. "As a gifted actor in the role of Barnabas Collins, Jonathan was the heart and soul of 'Dark Shadows' and, as recently as last week, was graciously taking part in activities surrounding the series. He never tired of meeting fans and was always excited to hear about new 'Dark Shadows' releases...MPI remains committed to preserving Jonathan's legacy and that of everyone who helped make 'Dark Shadows' an enduring and beloved phenomenon."

On her website (where we found the below photo), Frid's former "Dark Shadows" co-star Kathryn Leigh Scott posted the following comments:

May Jonathan Frid, “our reluctant vampire,” live on in our hearts! How blessed I am to have known this dear man and to have such wonderful memories of him, both on screen and off. [Such] good times we shared: star-crossed lovers playing Barnabas and Josette in both “Dark Shadows” and the film, House of Dark Shadows, and good friends off the set for more than 40 years. My favorite scene in all the 1,225 episodes of “Dark Shadows” was Maggie Evans’ introduction to Barnabas Collins in April 1967, 45 years ago this month. That we hit it off, bonding as two “outsiders,” was plain to see. Later, I became the embodiment of his long-lost love and doomed fiancée, Josette DuPrés.

I am so grateful to have worked with Jonathan, and to have known him as the charismatic, entertaining, complex and plain spoken man that he was. What fun we had working together! He was irascible, irreverent, funny, caring, lovable and thoroughly professional, and in the end became the whole reason why kids “ran home from school to watch” “Dark Shadows.”

I am so grateful that nearly five decades later, Jonathan, David Selby, Lara Parker and I were invited to play cameos in the new Dark Shadows, directed by Tim Burton and starring Johnny Depp as Barnabas Collins. How wonderful for the four of us to work together again and celebrate the legacy of “Dark Shadows.”

    Rest in Peace: Jonathan Frid
L-R: Lara Parker, Kathryn Leigh Scott, David Selby, Jim Pierson (Dark Shadows Marketing
and Festival Director), and Jonathan Frid on location for the Dark Shadows feature shoot

I won’t ever forget the moment when the two Barnabas Collinses met, one in his late 80s and the other in his mid-40s, each with their wolf’s head canes. Jonathan took his time scrutinizing his successor’s appearance. “I see you’ve done the hair,” Jonathan said to Johnny Depp, “but a few more spikes.” Depp, entirely in character, replied, “Yes, we’re doing things a bit differently.”

I took that moment to thank Johnny Depp for his very generous comments about Jonthan Frid and the iconic character of Barnabas Collins that Jonathan had created. Both Tim Burton and Johnny Depp responded: “But we wouldn’t be here without you.”

Yes, of course, it’s all a “a bit different.” We all understood that. Johnny Depp and Tim Burton would make, what we originated 45 years ago, their own — as well they should! But what a treat that those of us who were part of creating the world of “Dark Shadows” should be invited to participate in the new film and to carry on the legacy. The three days we worked together at Pinewood on Dark Shadows were the last days we were all together. I’m so grateful for the hugs and farewells we shared as we all departed on our separate journeys home. I’m so grateful that those wonderful times we shared are chronicled in Dark Shadows: Return to Collinwood, because all four of us contributed to the book. My last communication with Jonathan was his Foreword to the book. How many friendships — let alone working relationships! — endure the travails of five decades?

I love you, Jonathan. Rest in peace.

There's nothing we can add to that other than sending our sincere condolences to Jonathan's friends and family. Thanks for the wonderful memories; you were indeed one of a kind!

John Hawkes Talks Passing on Being the Governor of The Walking Dead

There's little doubt in anyone's mind that John Hawkes would have been perfect to play the Governor on AMC's "The Walking Dead." Little doubt in anyone's head but his apparently. Read on to find out why the actor passed on what could have been a banner role.

MovieWeb caught up with Hawkes, who shed some light on his decision...

“They offered me the role, and I just felt there would be someone else who could do it better,” he tells the site. “I was flattered, and I took a look at the series. It held interest for me, but I just didn’t feel like I was the guy for it. I have to be careful of what TV shows I choose, particularly ones that have commercials in them, because it’s going to be a different kind of television show. There are going to be sponsors. No matter how good the show is, if there are commercials, it’s going to be a different show, to me. That’s just my personal feeling. Yeah, it was nice of them to ask, and it’s a good show, but, again, I just didn’t feel I was the guy. They came to me and sent me the graphic novel and the first two seasons. I took a look at them and just didn’t feel like it was for me.

You know, it's impossible to tell from reading text on a screen the emotion behind those words, but man, did that all sound a bit on the dickish side of the fence. British star David Morrissey took the role once Hawkes passed.

Movie Mogul Ltd., the film company behind horror thriller Panic Button, has begun developing Monster Project, and with Cannes heading at us like a speeding bullet, we got our hands on the early sales art!

Described as a “cross-genre” film, Monster Project follows six teenagers who undergo a harrowing transformation into monsters, imbued with various abilities and ailments, and are forced to go on the run, fighting for their survival.

Movie Mogul Managing Director John Shackleton will write, direct and co-produce with the company's Director of Operations, Gareth I. Davies, and David Shillitoe; Mark Sandell executive produces.

Commenting on the film, Shackleton said: “Lurking beneath a hugely fantastical movie premise, anchored in reality, is a universal story surrounding a group of alienated teenagers. I’m hoping that this film will have a little something for everyone.

Movie Mogul’s first feature, Panic Button, received its world premiere at last year’s FrightFest and was released on DVD in November 2011 by Showbox Media Group.

That's the case with Rebecca, a young girl haunted by her father's suicide, who is a student at an exclusive female boarding school. She pours her heart out in a diary, much of it focused on Lucy, her beloved roommate. Their relationship changes drastically with the arrival of a mysterious new student, Ernessa. As Lucy abandons her for this new girl, Rebecca becomes consumed with thoughts of jealousy and suspicion -- Ernessa is dangerous, evil, a vampire. Is there any truth to all this or is Rebecca slipping into insanity?
