Are you a fan of Jason Lives: Friday the 13th Part VI? Do you still have space on your shelf for one more figure? Then you’re in luck. The folks over at NECA are set to release an Ultimate Jason Lives figure, which, as you may already have guessed, is modeled after Jason Voorhees from Friday the 13th Part VI. And, once again, the company has crafted one seriously cool collectible.

NECA’s official website reminds us that Jason Lives is almost three decades old, which certainly makes me feel a little ancient. The company also provides a handful of details about the figure.

To commemorate the 30th anniversary of Friday the 13th Part 6, we present the definitive collector’s version of Jason as he appeared in the 1986 film Jason Lives!

This deluxe 7” scale action figure features a gruesome, freshly unearthed sculpt and over 25 points of articulation. It’s loaded with accessories, too: removable mask, a machete and a knife that both fit into sheaths on his belt, the fence post that reanimated him and his tombstone. Packaged in a collector-friendly Deluxe 30th Anniversary window box.

The Ultimate Jason Lives figure will arrive this December, which should make more than a few people happy this holiday season. Check out some incredibly cool pics below.

John Carpenter’s Lost Themes Remixed Terrorizes Your Speakers This October

John Carpenter’s music is beyond cool. There’s really no other way to describe it. The legendary director’s scores have influenced countless filmmakers and musicians, and is at least partially responsible for the kickstarting the synthwave and outrun scenes. His work is also incredibly fun to listen to when you’re writing horror-related articles for Dread Central, or so I’ve heard.

This October, Carpenter is set to release Lost Themes Remixed, which takes several tracks from his solo album and hands them over to other artists. The result: A collection of remixes, as the title boldly suggests. Considering some of the musicians involved, it should be an interesting listen.

Check out the tracklist for the album below.

1. Purgatory (Prurient Remix)
2. Night (Zola Jesus & Dean Hurley Remix)
3. Wraith (ohGr Remix)
4. Vortex (Silent Servant Remix)
5. Vortex (Uniform Remix)
6. Fallen (Blanck Mass Remix)
7. Abyss (JG Thirwell Remix)
8. Fallen (Bill Kouligas Remix)

Sacred Bones Records will release John Carpenter’s Lost Themes Remixed on October 16.

Set in the fictional world of Pearl Lake, the films follow the heroine Jade Miller as she and a group of victims embark on a quest to stop the Pearl Family, and thus ensure the safety of the town and those around them from its leader, schizophrenic Ethan Pearl. Brothers Jacob and Ethan continuously blur the edges of good vs evil as they claim innocence from scandals surrounding missing people in the town of Clear Water Falls. Laurence Fishburne is one of the most versatile actors working today. Which is why it looks interesting to see him playing a type of character that he hasn’t really tackled before in the trailer for Standoff. He seems to go full sadistic psycho pretty well.

Thomas Jane co-stars in the film from Adam Alleca. No release date yet.

Synopsis
Combat veteran Carter Greene (Jane) lives alone in a rustic farmhouse where he grieves the death of his young son and the resulting failure of his marriage. Meanwhile, Bird is an orphan who’s experienced too much loss for somebody so young. As Bird mourns her parents on the anniversary of their death, she watches a professional assassin storm the graveyard and kill a group of funeral goers. Terrified, Bird springs into the woods, followed closely by the sadistic assassin Sade (Fishburne). She eventually takes shelter in Carter’s farmhouse, where Carter vows to protect her and avenge the murder of her family.

Bait (2015)

Bait ArtworkStarring Victoria Smurfit, Joanne Mitchell, Adam Fogerty, Jonathan Slinger

Directed by Dominic Brunt

Female friends Bex and Dawn work together in small-town England, running a coffee stall in the local market but with dreams of bigger things. Their attempts to get a loan to facilitate the opening of their own brick ‘n mortar coffee shop are shot down at every turn, causing rapidly widening fractures in their friendship.

Into the picture comes the charming Jeremy, who, after intimately befriending Dawn – despite the audience knowing that he’s married – seems to be the answer to their prayers… as he plops down a nice big wad of cash. The £10,000 they’ve been so desperately hunting, in fact.

But his terms are ridiculous, and as it turns out, Jeremy is actually the town’s most fearsome loan shark – he and his brutish enforcer Si (Fogerty) making sure that none of their victims seek outside help through extreme violence, intimidation and threats.

When Bex and Dawn refuse to accept the deal, Jeremy insists that they still owe him money to cover his imaginary “costs” – and the pair are soon trapped in a seemingly inescapable nightmare as more and more cash is demanded, and more and more violence visited on them and those they love.

They’re going to have to fight back.

The second film from TV actor turned filmmaker Dominic Brunt (after his capable 2013 zombie flick Before Dawn), Bait is a strong entry into the revenge thriller stables, even if it does err on the side of melodrama on occasion. Leads Smurfit and Mitchell both throw in fantastic turns as their respective characters, with a script full of whip-smart dialogue – giving Irishwoman Smurfit a particular opportunity to have what appears to be lots of fun bringing the sassy Bex to life.

Jonathan Slinger is similarly great as the smarmy, cocksure and violent psychopath determined to drag the pair into an undeserving hell. He’s a convincingly dangerous individual, his quieter moments taking on a new tension once his true nature is revealed.

Bait is nicely lensed, with that uniquely British down-home soap feel to it, lending an extra level of credence and impact to the characters and violence – which does feel overplayed in its brutality at times, but upsettingly real at others.

The film isn’t without its problems, though, featuring a presentation of Dawn’s highly autistic son that doesn’t quite sit right, and the primary situation behind the madness rarely feels more authentic than hyperbole with many all-too-convenient odds stacked against the good people of the town.

Just go with the flow, however, and it’s easy to become absorbed in the wonderful characters and performances as Bait sinks its hooks into you and refuses to let go until the brutal, cathartic and startlingly gory finale. Keep an eye out during the end credits for some further hilariously bloody revenge in the form of stop-motion animation by Lee Hardcastle.

Writer/director Alexander McNeill is certainly a talent on the rise. His short film The Parting Glass, produced in conjunction with the folks at Arts University Bournemouth, explores the Irish mourning process. And from the looks of the trailer you see nestled down below, McNeill packs the flick with an abundance of atmosphere. Here’s hoping this one finds its way online in the near future.

Here’s what the flick is all about:

Ireland, 1892. After the death of his malicious father Frank, John believes he and his mother Catherine can leave their rural cottage for a happier life. However, as Catherine begins talking to Frank’s body during the night, John begins to question his mother’s sanity.

Until The Parting Glass hits the festival circuit or Alexander McNeill decides to share his short film with the world, we’ll have to settle for this very cool trailer. Check it out below.

The upcoming British horror anthology The House of Screaming Death has officially wrapped the first phase of production. To celebrate this occasion, the filmmakers have decided to share a plethora of images from the flick. Producers Kaush Patel and Dave Hastings of Lightbeam Productions wrapped everything up in just 23 days, thanks in part to their “amazing” cast and crew.

In addition to images, the producers also provided a synopsis:

Echoing the distinctive and much celebrated great British Gothic Horror films of the 1960-70s, The House of Screaming Death will uphold the successful traditions of classic British Gothic Horror films of the past with the telling of four macabre tales of terror all related by the mysterious Architect. Each horrific segment delves into explicit corners of the supernatural, summoning such damned creations as the ghostly Lady in Grey, stories of Witchcraft most foul, Vampirism & the Occult. But before the night is over, The Architect has one last secret of his own to unleash…

The House of Screaming Death stars Charlie Clarke, Andy Simon, Tom Loone, Sha’ori Morris, Kiah Reeves, Chris Lines, Tony Gibbons, Cameron Moon, Sarah Gain, Brett Dewsbury, Theresa Roche, and Richard Buck. If all goes well, the movie should arrive at some point next year. In the meantime, stay up to date with the flick by heading over to the official website.

Fright Dome Celebrates 13 Years of Terror with Friday the 13th 4-D

If you’re spending this Halloween in the wilds of Las Vegas, peel yourself away from the slot machines and Britney Spears’ residency and celebrate 13 years of Fright Dome, one of the nation’s top-ranked haunted attractions. Should you decide to live dangerously, you can participate in this year’s all-new Friday the 13th 4-D experience, which features 13 kills in 13 minutes. Impressive! If you’re going spend Halloween in Las Vegas, you might as well go full-tilt.

From the Press Release
Hailed as one of the nation’s scariest haunted attractions for 2014 by Travel Channel and having been featured worldwide for more than a decade in the top five; Fright Dome at Circus Circus is celebrating its 13th Anniversary milestone with its most extreme Halloween season yet. Beginning Friday, Oct. 2 Fright Dome will take over all 5-acres inside of TheAdventuredome theme park at Circus Circus with a promise from owner Jason Egan that fans will experience the most interactive, terrifying and twisted experience in the event’s 13 year history.

“I have launched Halloween events all over the world and still the most important thing to me is that our fans experience sheer terror from start to finish,” said Jason Egan, owner and creator of Fright Dome. “When I came to Las Vegas the only thing here was tiny trailer-based haunted houses so I saw an opportunity to create something huge. After 13 successful years, I am so thrilled to be launching all of my team’s new insanely creative and disturbing ideas to celebrate this season. When it came to planning our 13th anniversary I didn’t want it to feel like walking through a museum, I wanted to create something extremely twisted and interactive that makes everyone feel as though they are a part of the madness.”

This historic season for the indoor haunted attraction marks the creation of Egan’s most intense, disturbing and visceral labyrinth yet. The new creation, “Insanitarium,” is so extreme that guests will be required to check in at a nurse’s station and sign voluntary commitment papers before entering. “Insanitarium” is an all-encompassing interactive experience which locks guests into the warped lair of a deranged surgeon turned meticulous killer with the only option out being to rely on their own instincts and battle through the twists and turns inside. From the freezing temperatures of body lockers to the hellfire heat of a crematorium which guests are trapped in, “Insanitarium” is a testing journey of extreme sight, sounds and smells. Those who dare enter will find themselves closely acquainted with the rotting corpses of those who came before yet failed to survive.

One of the most unique obstacles in guest’s fight against time inside of the new “Insanitarium” is the authentic morgue challenging participants to pass through its halls unscathed once they are locked in. Egan’s crew, who excel in finding creepy yet historic oddities, disassembled and transported morgue doors, wheel chairs, lighting fixtures, sinks and more from one of the most historically paranormal haunted locations in the nation; Norwich State Hospital in Connecticut. Prior to closing in 1996, Norwich was an insane asylum and hospital for the incurable spanning close to a 100 year history of freakish encounters, which Egan hopes to transport into his event.

To further celebrate its 13th Anniversary, Fright Dome has teamed up with SimEx-Iwerks Entertainment, in partnership with Warner Bros. Consumer Products, to be the very first haunted attraction in the world to feature a 4-D show with the iconic brand Friday the 13th™ 4-D: A Deadly 4-D Experience. Horror fans will experience another dimension of terror as Jason Vorhees™, the world’s most recognizable horror icon, slashes his way through thirteen kills in thirteen minutes. Jason attacks anyone who enters the grounds of Camp Crystal Lake with every twist and turn. Heightened by hair-raising 3-D and startling special effects; this creepy 4-D experience delivers heart-stopping action. Guests will experience a sensory overload of fear as they come face-to-face with the machete-wielding killer.

The Adventuredome’s state-of-the-art, 4-D Special FX Theatre is a fully immersive experience with an array of in-theater special effects to complement the on-screen show. Seat vibrations, water sprays and other alarming horrors are designed to let guests feel like part of the grim action.

In addition to the six haunted houses, chilling scare zones and Friday the 13th™ 4-D, newly expanded area, appropriately named “FreakShow” will offer additional scare areas, stages hosting sideshow acts, unique performers and more demented entertainment than ever before alongside carnival games touting a range of unsettling prizes. Fright Dome guests can experience seven thrill rides under one roof, including two roller coasters. Coaster lovers can dive into the darkness on The Adventuredome’s newest ride, El Loco, an adrenaline-pumping adventure complete with G drops, gravity-defying turns and over-the-edge twists. The theme park’s second roller coaster, Canyon Blaster, takes them through a double loop, double corkscrew shrouded by shadows and fog.

Once again teaming up with famed Hollywood FX guru Gary J. Tunnicliffe, Egan’s team will create the most intense props, masks and sets that fans have ever experienced at Fright Dome. Tunnicliffe is highly esteemed in the horror industry for his ability to shock and torment with lifelike recreations. Over the years he has been responsible for the makeup, props and special effects for more than sixty feature films on the big screen including franchises such as HELLRAISER, HALLOWEEN, CANDYMAN, EXORCIST, BLADE, SCREAMand many more.

Fright Dome celebrates its 13th anniversary from October 2 to October 31. Tickets will set you back $39.95, and you can spring for the so-called “fast pass” for an additional $20. For more information about Las Vegas’ premier haunted attraction, check out the official website.

The Strain’s Natalie Brown Talks Bigger and Bolder Episodes Ahead!

The character of Kelly has come a long way since being turned into a strigoi back in the early days of “The Strain” Season 1.  With Season 2 now well under way, we had a chance to hear from the actress who portrays the newly sentient ex-Mrs. Goodweather, Natalie Brown.

During a recent roundtable interview, Brown discussed the process involved to turn her into the monster that she has become – both via makeup and her own techniques; working with the “Feelers”; what’s ahead for her ever-evolving character, including more Kelly/Eichorst bonding moments; and lots more.

Read on for the highlights, and be sure to tune in tomorrow night for Episode 2.09, “The Battle for Red Hook.”

THE STRAIN -- "Intruders" -- Episode 208 (Airs August 30, 10:00 pm e/p) Pictured: Natalie Brown as Kelly Goodweather. CR: Michael Gibson/FX

Q:  Can you tell us about getting into your strigoi makeup?  And now that you’re kind of back to your human version, which do you prefer?

Natalie Brown: I’m not going to lie.  Costume change and a little bit of lipstick can go a long way to making even Ms. Strigoi happy, but the four and a half hours of the prosthetic makeup process is something that I really enjoy.  The gifted artists that work on the hair and makeup make my job really easy.  They definitely bring the terror before I’ve even set foot on set, but being able to experience Kelly as a human turned vampire turned back to human looking is a challenge that I really relished…  and the products are a lot better smelling, shall we say.  A little more pleasant.  It’s like a day trip to the spa for Kelly.

Q:  And what about getting into the character itself?  Your movements and manner of speaking now that you’re evolving?

NB:  After having gotten the hang of the physical expectations of a newly turned strigoi, the challenge at the beginning of Season 2 was letting go of a lot of those expectations of a newly turned strigoi and becoming a more sentient being, more regal if you will. And in Episode 8, “Intruders,” then it was a matter of restraint.  Keeping a lid on my own human tendencies and speaking less articulately and moving more mechanically is something you’re required as an actress to not do, but our director, Kevin Dowling, was quick to remind me of when to hold back and when to let the foot off the pedal, so to speak.  She does now have access to all of her memories and emotions, and it’s like hearing an old familiar song and knowing all the words.  It’s like an old familiar sweater.

Q:  Now that you’ve played through three phases of the character (human, strigoi, and now sort of a hybrid), have you approached it as three different characters, or just sort of three evolutions of the same character?

NB:  You hit the nail on the head.  It is three different evolutions, and it’s been a process of adding and eliminating and being expertly guided by our vamp choreographer, Roberto Campanella, as well as the writers and directors. And it’s just a matter of choosing what to keep and what to throw away, what to layer on, and just knowing… having that sense of restraint at all times…  The character just keeps growing in complexity and more nuanced, and with each evolution of Kelly I enjoy more and more…  You’ll just have to see what’s in store to see how much better things continue to get – or worse, depending on your perspective.

Q:  Can you talk a little bit about working with those creepy Feeler kids?  How did they come to get hired in the first place?

NB:  They had castings at dance studios in the greater Toronto area, and they hired some of the most gifted dancers and acrobats.  Most of them were girls, but we had a few boy Feelers, and they’re so physically gifted that they’re creepy looking enough on their own, but they are also aided with the help of speeding up their movements with visual effects, and they would employ the use of trampolines to help with the springing side.  Generally, they become pretty creepy once they’re processed in hair and makeup, and they were just a joy to work with.  They were so enthusiastic, and they loved the makeup process.  They did all of Kelly’s dirty work.  They’re the ones down on their hands and doing her bidding.  So we had a lot of fun playing make believe and turning some of the darkest subject matter into the most fun days on the set.

STRAIN_206_2163d_hires1

Q:  In the last episode your companion Feelers were killed.  Is it safe to assume we might see more, or were they the last two?  If you can say, that is…

NB:  I may not be able to say, but there just might be a couple still lingering in the nest.

Q:  When you’re this strigoi character and you have to go to some pretty dark places, what do you tap into to get you through that darkness of your character?

NB:  It’s that burning desire to connect with her dearest one… that has not gone away.  It has changed.  Human love does turn to vampire need, but that longing, that yearning, that fight for Zach is still very much alive.  That’s what makes vampires different from other monsters… that they still feel.  They still have purpose.  They have drive. There are different levels of course, and Kelly, being a more sentient one, has special gifts bestowed upon her, and what a blessing because all vampires once newly turned want to connect with their dear ones, and she’s just very fortunate to have been blessed with the assistance of Eichhorst and Feelers, and she’ll stop at nothing.  So she’s still very much focused and driven by that desire and need.

Q:  We got to see Kelly and Eichhorst kind of bond when he was teaching her how to apply her makeup, etc.  How will we see that relationship progress throughout the rest of the season?

NB:  Well, I will say that one of the most poignant scenes from Season 1 was Eichhorst’s ceremoniously putting on his face, and I had joked with some of the writers last season that now that Kelly has become a strigoi, my only wish would be to hang out with Eichhorst and maybe borrow some concealer.  You can only imagine how thrilled I was when that wish came true.  Eichhorst would be one of my favorite characters from Season 1, and being one of the most fully fleshed-out strigoi, I couldn’t ask for a better mentor.  Richard Sammel portrays Eichhorst superbly, and he has coined the relationship a “Bonnie and Clyde partnership.”  I’m just very fortunate to be in his—or to be his people.  I look forward to more of the Eichhorst/Kelly relationship.

Q:  Now that Kelly is more sentient, do you feel that her human nature is coming forward more, and is it so forward that her desire to protect Zach might make her at some point turn against The Master, or is she still in control?

NB:  He is The Master, after all.  So he is the wheel.  But the emotional palette in the well is running deeper the longer that she’s a sentient being, and access to the memories definitely fuels her need to connect, and there is a possibility for more connection and possibly confusion, but The Master is at the helm at all times.  So I think that once you are a strigoi, your only desire is to connect, and that way is, fortunately or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it, to turn.  So I don’t know if it’s something that would necessarily go against her new instincts as this new being, but I do think that she still ultimately wants to protect him.

Q:  So then, does she want to turn her son, or does she just want to be with him?

NB:  I think they’re one and the same.  I think that a vampire turns a loved one because that is the way to be with them, that is the way to protect them, to offer them protection from how vulnerable they think they are as humans, and that is still the goal…

STRAIN_209_03547d_hires1

Q:  Is it just that she wants to get Zach, or is she also trying to hurt Eph at the same time?  Is she that aware of what she’s doing?

NB:  I think she will take no prisoners, and whoever is in her way will have to suffer the consequences.  I think that a lot of the circumstances that were present before Kelly was turned are retained within her memories and fuel the feud that was between Kelly and Eph.  I’ve said it before — and Guillermo [del Toro] had described this as “the custody battle that never ends” in the first audition — and now, I know exactly what he was talking about.

Q:  What can fans expect the rest of the season and into the next?  Because it seems like the stakes are getting higher and higher…

NB: I know… the battle lines continue to be drawn.  Alliances continue to be formed and made.  Alliances continue to be crossed.  This story just get richer and more exciting by the episode, and I’m as anxious as everyone else to see what the writers have in store next season and can’t wait for everyone to see how the rest of this season unfolds.  It does only get bigger and better and bolder.
