Supernatural TV Saga The Gate Begins Kickstarter Campaign

Crowdfunding efforts for filmmaker Kellie Madison’s teaser pitch for a new TV series she is directing and producing called “The Gate” have kicked off, and we have the early details right here.  “The Gate” is a supernatural saga chronicling the epic battle between good and evil.

The series will include flashbacks to Cassie Weston’s (Amy Johnston, Captain America: The Winter Soldier) childhood days when she and her sister, Kate, are forced to the streets after her drug-addicted mother dies tragically under the control of a Haitian Voodoo cult leader. Cassie then makes it her life’s mission to become a vigilante crime-fighter to rid the world of evil and avenge her mother’s death. When Indonesian crime lord Rafael (Yayan Ruhian, The Raid: Redemption) gets word of her bestowed angelic powers, he quickly becomes Cassie’s worst enemy.

thegate1

Madison has an arsenal of credits that speak to her creativity and storytelling skills, including Project Imagination’s The Caul and Open Road Films’ The Tank. “We have assembled a world-class team dedicated to the success of this series,” she says.  “This is a project that, with just a small contribution, fans can be a huge part of as we bring it to life as a television series.”

“The Gate’s” Kickstarter campaign has two goals in mind:

1- Raise funds to shoot a 6-minute teaser pitch to show networks the style, tone, and genre of the series. Yayan, Amy, the EMC Monkeys, and their talented crew, including respected camera operator George Billinger (War of the Worlds, Terminator Salvation, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull) will rehearse fight choreography for four days and shoot for three days. In exchange for pledges to the project, people will receive rewards including, but not limited to, a one-hour martial arts lesson with Amy Johnston and a chance to watch the action LIVE by getting to be an EXTRA in the teaser!

2 – Develop an audience for the TV series. If “The Gate” can prove to networks that a significant number of people have backed the campaign and are wanting to see the series get legs, networks will have a hard time ignoring a built-in audience.

The production also just launched the “DESIGN CASSIE WESTON’S SUPERHERO COSTUME!” contest:

What would a superhero be without his or her costume? Superhero costumes are powerful, emblematic things because they help establish character, create a brand, and prepare the hero for battle. For a $25.00 donation, people have the chance to submit a costume design for Cassie Weston to wear in the teaser.

The contest kicked off yesterday, September 17th, and runs to 12:00 midnight, Thursday, September 24th.  The director/producer, along with the amazing and talented David Mack (creator, author, and artist of Kabuki, which is published by Image Comics, and writer and cover artist for Marvel Comics’ Daredevil, one of the ten bestselling comics in the United States) will select the winning design.  The costume will then be created, Amy Johnston will wear it in the pitch teaser, and the world will see your design come to life!

“Recent box office numbers indicate that audiences are tiring of the prequel, sequel, remake game and are turning to television for entertainment. ‘The Gate’ gives people the best of both worlds – incorporating visually cinematic action, compelling characters, and original content,” says Madison.

Madison is also passionate about becoming a viable commercial director in the action genre market space. Recent media presence has indicated that female directors are stereotyped as being unable to direct action. “I’m determined to prove them wrong!” says Madison.

Supernatural – The Complete 10th Season (Blu-ray)

supernaturals10bluStarring Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Misha Collins, Mark A. Sheppard

Directed by Various

Distributed by Warner Brothers Home Entertainment

It’s utterly amazing to me that “Supernatural” has lasted ten seasons, but alas, the Winchester boys just keep on trucking despite peaking in Season 5. This show is such a weird animal in that just when it starts to lose me, I get sucked right back in, and truth be told, there was a lot of sucking – both good and bad – in this tenth season.

In terms of what happened plotwise… I’d be silly if I didn’t just refer you to the official synopsis:

After Dean Winchester lost his battle with power-mad angel scribe Metatron last season, he was resurrected by the power of the First Blade and transformed into a demon, cursed with the Mark of Cain. The road to recovering wayward Dean takes brother Sam down sinister paths himself with consequences that will shake the boys to their core. The Winchesters’ angelic comrade-in-arms Castiel must pick up the pieces in the aftermath of Metatron’s campaign to overtake Heaven. With his divine “grace” failing and rogue angels still loose, Cas faces the ticking clock of his own mortality while all-new and ages-old threats again push our heroes to their human and otherworldly limits. At the same time, the King of Hell, Crowley, must deal with dissension within his own twisted family.

From reading that description, it should be completely apparent to you that the storyline has run kind of thin, and as a result Season 10 spends more times meandering from episode to episode than it does really driving its latest bits of lore home. There are some good ideas present within the span of the 23 episodes presented here, but overall most of it played as if everyone was just waiting to see if the show would get picked up for an eleventh season (which it did) before deciding which direction to take. But then it happens… sandwiched between said meandering episodes, you hit several that are pure “Supernatural” magic, and that’s what keeps you watching and, more importantly, forgiving.

Simply put, Season 10 does more spinning its wheels than it does traveling down dark highways… but that never seems to stop us from wanting to see what’s next for the boys, Castiel, and the (shamefully underutilized in S10) King of Hell.

In terms of extras this package is, as always, stacked! This is one of the few shows that truly cherishes its fanbase, and nowhere is that more apparent than in the supplemental material. I’ve gotta say though… we really could have done without the “Supernatural Fans” bit being an hour long. Even at that length it feels endless. Still, how cool for the folks included here to become part of this show’s history! Bravo for the idea, meh on the execution.

As usual, we also have the annual Comic-Con panel and tons of other bells and whistles, including our personal favorite supplement every year… the blooper reel!

“Supernatural” – The Complete 10th Season hits slightly more than it misses, but if you’re a fan of the show, it’s as always nothing short of a must-have. Here’s hoping that Season 11 cranks up the intensity with the kind of focus that this series truly needs at the moment.

Amanda Seyfried Brings Her Damn Fine Pie to Twin Peaks

Grab your coffee and cherry pie, kids! TVLine is reporting that Amanda Seyfried has just signed on for a televised vacation to the spooky little town of “Twin Peaks.”

Her role is being kept under wraps for now, but the site reports that it will be a pivotal role on the Showtime reboot. Seyfried will appear in multiple episodes, making the “Twin Peaks” appearance her biggest TV gig since “Big Love.”

Amanda Seyfried

In an earlier interview Showtime Networks president David Nevins announced that the follow-up series from David Lynch and Mark Frost would be starting this month, with Lynch set to direct all episodes. Apparently he and Frost wrote one long script that will be shot continuously as a movie and later cut into episodes. Originally envisioned as being nine (9) episodes, the series will likely run longer, but the exact number is still in flux and won’t be known until after filming is completed.

Beyond the return of Kyle MacLachlan, Nevins declined to comment on casting other than saying we “should be optimistic that the people you want to be there will be there, in addition to some surprises.”

After rumors that we won’t see the show until 2017, there is now hope that “Twin Peaks” could be ready for 2016.  But Lynch has complete creative control over the project so Nevins added, “I’ll take it when it’s ready; I hope that’s sooner rather than later.”

Amen.

CBS Developing Moreau Adaptation with a Female Doctor as its Lead

Now this is interesting… “Moreau,” a new adaptation of H.G. Wells’ classic The Island of Dr. Moreau, is in the works at CBS as a potential series with a female in the lead role.  And, per Deadline, it’s being written by “Sleepy Hollow” co-creator Phillip Iscove, who left that show at the end of last season, for CBS TV Studios and studio-based Kennedy/Marshall.

In the TV version, the disgraced London physiologist who retreats to an island to work on experiments to create animal-human hybrids is named Katherine. Fiercely intelligent and fearless, Dr. Katherine Moreau expands the boundaries of medicine through bold and revolutionary scientific experimentation and treatments in her privately funded island hospital. Iscove executive produces with Frank Marshall and Robert Zotnowski of the Kennedy/Marshall Co.

We’ll have more as it comes!

Guests Announced for Grimmfest 2015

It’s that time of year again. The nights are drawing in, the skies are increasingly overcast, the weather is disturbingly unpredictable. There’s something dark coming… Grimmfest 2015 is almost upon us, and today we have the list of guests who have been been announced thus far.

This year brings a few old friends as well as a fair amount of first-timers to the UK horror show.  Read on for the details!

Related Story:  Grimmfest 2015: Full Lineup Announced Including The Hallow, Bloodsucking Bastards, Turbo Kid, Hellions, and Lots More!

THURSDAY 1st October
For our opening night, we’ll be proving that it really is Grimm Up North, with our showcase of Northern shorts. This will feature the world premiere of THE BOX, which marks the directorial debut of SFX make-up guru SHAUNE HARRISON, who has worked on everything from Hellraiser III through to Harry Potter, The Avengers, World War Z, and Star Wars and now runs his own make-up academy in Manchester. Shaune will be joining us alongside the film’s stars: DOMINIC BRUNT, best known for his role in “Emmerdale” but increasingly known in genre circles as a go-to director for gritty, intense, critically-acclaimed horror features Before Dawn and Bait, and JOANNE MITCHELL, Dom’s partner and creative collaborator, writer, producer, and star of both films.

Our gala headline opening feature will be the North West Premiere of nerve-racking rural shocker THE HALLOW. We’ll be joined by director CORIN HARDY, who has just secured directorial duties on the upcoming Crow reboot on the strength of his work here, and star JOSEPH MAWLE, a familiar face to genre fans, following his work in “Game of Thrones,” “Ripper Street, “Sense8,” Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, and The Awakening.

FRIDAY 2nd October
For our second day, we’re proud to be presenting the UK premiere of GERMAN ANGST, a portmanteau of peculiarly Teutonic tales of terror from some of that country’s most controversial directors, and we’ll be welcoming DENIS LYONS, star of the visceral and disquieting central story, Make a Wish, to introduce and talk about his experiences on the film.

For our North West Premiere screening of the acclaimed woodland witchcraft shocker CHERRY TREE, we’re delighted to be joined by the film’s screenwriter and producer, BRENDAN MCCARTHY. This is Brendan’s second collaboration with director David Keating, following the acclaimed Wake Wood, which relaunched the Hammer brand, but Brendan’s name should also be familiar to genre fans for his work as a producer on such previous Grimmfest favourites as Stitches and Outcast.  Brendan will be joined by two of the film’s stars, NAOMI BATTRICK, familiar to TV audiences from such shows as “Crossing Lines,” “Stonemouth,” and “Waterloo Road,” and SAM HAZELDINE, one of the stars of Grimmfest favourite The Machine and a familiar face in such gritty TV shows as “Peaky Blinders” and “Ripper Street.”

SATURDAY 3rd October
For Saturday, we’ll have some real-life horrors in the form of acclaimed documentary THE NIGHTMARE, exploring the terrifying phenomenon of sleep paralysis. One of the film’s subjects, STEVE PAYTER, will be joining us to share some of his unsettling dream experiences.

The evening sees us joined by another SFX maestro-turned-director, PAUL HYETT, who follows up his acclaimed debut, The Seasoning House, with the gripping “werewolves on a train” shocker HOWL, receiving its North West Premiere at Grimmfest. We’ll also be be welcoming back HOLLY WESTON, one of the film’s stars. Holly was at the very first Grimmfest, as the star of our Festival Directors Simeon Halligan and Rachel Richardson-Jones’ own feature film debut, Splintered, the film that started it all – so she can truly be said to have been there at the beginning.

SUNDAY 4th October
We’ll be celebrating the new remastered release of HELLRAISER with author, anthologist, and Hellraiser expert PAUL KANE. Paul’s latest novel, the outrageous, genre-splicing Sherlock Holmes and the Servants of Hell, sees the great detective matching wits with the Cenobites. So no doubt Paul is going to have some very interesting things to show us.

Our closing film this year is the World Premiere of the visually stunning, conceptually-challenging speculative sci-fi epic DMX, a startling fusion of theology, quantum physics, psychedelia, and martial arts action that is truly head-spinning. We are delighted to announce that the film’s visionary director, ANDREW GOTH, will be joining us to introduce the film.

Grimmfest 2015 runs 1st-4th October at Odeon Printworks, Manchester, UK. Tickets are now on sale from grimmfest.com.

STX Entertainment Nabs Hardcore for a Cool $10 Million

The Toronto International Film Festival is definitely proving lucrative for director Ilya Naishuller. The filmmaker’s first-person action flick Hardcore has generated all sorts of buzz at TIFF, and it seems the ensuing bidding war will end up netting Naishuller a cool $10 million. According to Deadline, STX Entertainment is closing a deal for the flick that will include worldwide distribution rights.

For those who are late to the party, Hardcore is a first-person action flick that unfolds over the course of one day on the streets of Russia. Sharlto Copley, Haley Bennett, and Danila Kozlovsky star.

Deadline describes the film as follows:

You remember nothing. Mainly because you’ve just been brought back from the dead by your wife (Haley Bennett). She tells you that your name is Henry, and congratulations: You’re now a cyborg. Five minutes later, your wife has been kidnapped and you should probably go get her back. Who’s got her? His name’s Akan (Danila Kozlovsky); he’s just a psychotic megalomaniac with telekinetic powers and a never-ending army of mercenaries. You’re also in the unfamiliar city of Moscow, and everyone wants you dead. Everyone except for a mysterious British fellow called Jimmy (Sharlto Copley). He might be on your side. Good luck, Henry. You’re very much likely to need it…

Those of us who didn’t attend TIFF will have to wait until Hardcore arrives in theaters or home video to experience the madness for ourselves. If you haven’t already, check out the trailer.

Will Kevin Smith’s Moose Jaws Feature the Death of Silent Bob?

$

Say it ain’t so! Although lovable goofballs Jay and Silent Bob have been around since Kevin Smith’s classic 1994 comedy Clerks, there’s a very strong possibility that Bob won’t make it out of Canada alive. According to Smith, his upcoming monster movie Moose Jaws (think Jaws except with a giant moose) will find Silent Bob shuffling off his mortal coil at the hands of the titular creature. Frankly, I’m not a fan of the idea. At all. In fact, it makes me kind of sad. Very sad, actually.

Alas, all good things must come to an end, and Kevin Smith seems determined to kill off this iconic character in the very near future. According to the folks over at Joblo, Smith appears ready and willing to bid farewell to Bob in a very Quint-esque manner. It’s gonna be gruesome.

I just finished writing the scene where — spoilers — Silent Bob gets eaten by the moose. That’s how he fucking goes out! Isn’t that fun? I was talking to Jay about Moose Jaws, and I’m like, “I’m thinking about bringing us in as the Captain Quint character.” And he goes, “Yeah, but Quint gets killed!” I was like, “One of us has to get eaten.” And he was like, “You. Not me.” I was like, “Why?” And he was like, “Because I wanna be in other movies!” Fair enough, dude. So, rather than let him go out with dignity, he’ll be eaten by a fucking moose.

Who knows? Maybe Smith will change his mind at the last minute and let Silent Bob live to see another day. And although it will be sad to see him leave this world behind, at least we still have Clerks 3 and Mallrats 2 in the works. Assuming, of course, you’re not dreading those movies.

The Green Inferno has ridden over more than its fair share of bumps in the road on the way to its long-awaited September 25th theatrical release, and no doubt director Eli Roth has many tales to tell.  You can ask him ANYTHING about his experiences with the film – or whatever else might be on your mind – this coming Monday, September 21st.

Join Eli during his Reddit AMA for #TheGreenInferno at 12 noon PT/3 pm ET.

eliroth-ama

The Green Inferno stars Lorenza Izzo, Ariel Levy, Kirby Bliss Blanton, Sky Ferreira, Daryl Sabara, and Aaron Burns.

Synopsis:
How far would you go for a cause you believe in? In Eli Roth’s terrifying new film, The Green Inferno, a group of college students take their humanitarian protest from New York to the Amazon jungle, only to be taken prisoner by the indigenous tribe they came to save. The Green Inferno marks Roth’s return to directing for the big screen for the first time since his Hostel franchise and tells the story of what happens when “slacktavism,” the well-meaning social media response to global catastrophes, turns into terror in the depths of the Amazon rainforest.

Dark and primitive customs still rule the Amazon jungle: cannibalism and other mind-, body-, and soul-destroying rituals. Trapped in the village, these high-tech modern-world students experience the ultimate in primal barbaric terror, suffering unspeakable acts of violence in intense and chilling rituals reserved only for the most threatening intruders.

Exclusive Helen Keller vs. Nightwolves Premiere Coverage and First Impressions

Helen Keller vs. Nightwolves, the much-anticipated horror slapstick comedy written and directed by mad genius Ross Patterson, was unleashed last night (September 18th) in Hollywood at the historic Vista Theater. And Dread Central was there!

There was a red carpet step-and-repeat to begin with, plus we saw a line of rabid fans that wrapped around the block. There were several horror icons in attendance, including Barbara Crampton and John Gulager, as well as most of the stars from the film. After the outdoor shenanigans, the party moved inside, where a Q&A kicked off the big screen premiere.

Jesse Merlin, Barbara Crampton, Jackson Stewart

Ross Patterson: The DVD comes out on Halloween. The inside of the disc is all in braille. No kidding. Whatever fan figures out what it says, God bless you. I will send you a dick pic. I’m gonna go personal; that way you’ll know it’s me. Actually, better yet, I’ll send you a Barry dick pic. It’s impressive. You know – you’ve seen him in his underwear in Rocky Horror Picture Show. He’s a good-looking man.

Barry Bostwick: I will do the dick pic.

RP: Jessie Wiseman is here. She plays Helen Keller. She wore contacts throughout the entire film. Was that hard?

JW: Yes. That’s it for the Q&A… I can start drinking now, right?

RP: Jesse Merlin, everybody. Jesse, my question for you, playing William Keller, and having to sing a full operatic song in the film – no ADR, folks – what was the biggest challenge in that?

JM: First off, the movie was funny. But yeah, we had to change locations the day before, so we were out in the middle of the country and I also had to down about 24 ounces of something before –

Audience heckler: Semen!

RP: No, not semen. Who the fuck said that? Give me your cell phone right now. I am going to call your mother.

JM: Beer. It was beer… fake beer actually. I have not seen this movie yet… either it’s going to be a cult classic, or a serious lapse in judgment.

RP: Last question is for Richard Riehle. Why do you keep doing my movies? You know they are so fucked up. Why do you keep doing them? Every time I call your agent and you say yes, I’m amazed. We’ve done six films together, and wow – because you are way above my grade. You are an amazing actor.

Richard Riehle: Nah…

RP: You know what everybody wants to hear, right?

RR: “I’m a people person!”

Barry Bostwick Ross Patterson Jessie Wiseman Jesse Merlin Vista_Ext-1 Vista_Int HKVN_Q_and_A Fans-1

The audience applauded wildly, director and actors took their seats, and the screening began. It started off with a string of hilarious trailers – all of them Patterson’s previous films, including FDR: American Badass!, Poolboy: Drowning Out the Fury, and Darnell Dawkins: Mouth Guitar Legend – then a book trailer for Patterson’s (real!) new “romance novel for dudes” called At Night She Cries While He Rides His Steed, which promises “hardcore fucking” and lots of it.

Helen Keller vs. Nightwolves kicked off with a filmed intro / warning by Patterson (a la William Castle by way of Captain Ron as his alter ego, St. James St. James), and the movie began.

This riotously irreverent historical horror flick starts off with the elder Helen Keller (played by Lin Shaye) recounting the tale of how an assault by sophisticated, yet sinister nightwolves destroyed two of her three senses and how she got her revenge on the animals that wronged her. The attack scene is beyond hilarious! Not to mention gloriously gory. The movie is made to look egregiously cheesy, but it’s so cleverly crafted and diligently edited, one must admire all the thought and work that went into it – it reminds me of a famous quote by Dolly Parton: “It costs a fortune to look this cheap.”

Judge for yourself when Helen Keller vs. Nightwolves comes out for everyone to see on October 31, 2015.

Lin Shaye (the Insidious franchise), Barry Bostwick (Rocky Horror Picture Show), Jim O’Heir (“Parks and Recreation”), and David Quane (FDR: American Badass!) star.

Synopsis:
Helen Keller vs. Nightwolves tells the shocking story of how a group of nightwolves terrorized a tiny village, taking people’s hearing and eyesight… and the one woman who fought back.

Director Brad Bird Wants to Make a Hand-Drawn Animated Horror Movie

$

There aren’t many high-quality hand-drawn animated horror movies available these days, and filmmaker Brad Bird (The Incredibles, Iron Giant, Tomorrowland) hopes to change that fact at some point down the road. During a recent chat with Collider’s Matt Goldberg, the director explained that you don’t often see hand-drawn 2D horror movies that reach Disney levels of quality. When asked if he thinks there’s still a market for old-school animation, Bird believes there is.

I actually think it’s a lot more valid than other people do. I think the industry tends to like to think in the narrow sort of mindset of a businessman, and businessman absolutes, and movies really exist in a much grayer region of dreams and stuff like that, and instinct is prized in movies, it’s not prized with the businessmen in movies, but movies themselves often reward instinct rather than pie charts. And what has not been done is that there’s been no American animation done on Disney-level quality that has really gone into different genres,” Bird explained during his interview with Collider.

The director also feels that, in the right hands, these movies could generate terror.

[T]here’s never been a horror movie in animation executed at Disney-level quality and hand-drawn, I’m not talking about CG I’m talking about hand-drawn, but it doesn’t take a lot to imagine how cool that would be. If you think of the scariest parts of Snow White or Pinocchio or Fantasia with Night on Bald Mountain, you could do something really scary in animation and I think if you did it right, if you did it with all the art that Spielberg did Jaws, I think that it would be an amazing experience because there’s something intuitive about when people are drawing directly with their hands.”

Brad Bird has a few other interesting things to say about horror and hand-drawn 2D animation, so check out his full interview with Matt Goldberg over at Collider. It’s good stuff.

Sandy Collora’s Shallow Water Amasses $100,000 on Kickstarter, Still Needs Some Help

As we previously reported, special FX guru and filmmaker Sandy Collora wants to make an old-school monster movie, and he’s well on his way to making this happen. The official Kickstarter campaign for his upcoming endeavor Shallow Water has amassed over $100,000, and it still has a little less than a month to go.

However, don’t wait too long to give Collora some of your money. He’d love nothing more than to get $500,000 for his project, and while he’s on track to making that a reality, sleeping on this one is not recommended, especially if you like creature features.

Here’s how Collora describes the plot:

A fishing trip to a remote and mythical fishing hole goes awry and becomes a terrifying predicament that keeps getting worse. Nestled deep in the Sea of Cortez is a tiny island you won’t find on any map. Six fishermen scour the Baja peninsula to find this magical place, but when they finally reach their destination, they encounter some sea life that they did not expect. This puts them all at odds and it quickly becomes every man for himself. Which will prevail, Mother Nature or Human Nature?

As of this writing (September 20), you still have 25 days to contribute to the Shallow Water Kickstarter campaign. Take a moment to look at the pitch video for Collora’s project below.

Chris R. Notarile’s Turned Reminds Everyone That Vampires Don’t Sparkle

Years after the Twilight movies, vampires still have a bad name. When someone mentions the undying bloodsuckers, it’s hard not to picture Edward and Bella sparkling as their love soars to new heights. The creatures lost some of their luster, and it often takes a viewing of Lost Boys or From Dusk Till Dawn to remember that vampires are menacing, unrelenting monsters with an insatiable bloodlust.

Thankfully, filmmakers seem determined to take back what Twilight has stolen.

Enter director Chris R. Notarile’s Turned, a short film that reminds everyone that vampires don’t sparkle — they burn! In other words, Notarile probably isn’t telling a love story.

Have a look at the film’s official synopsis:

When Jack, a rough and tough vampire slayer, is bitten by his arch-nemesis, Monty, he has but one day left to live before he becomes the very thing he has been hunting for most of his life.

If that sounds like the sort of good time that would run around 25 minutes in length, then you’re in luck. Chris R. Notarile’s Turned is embedded below for your viewing pleasure.

Fans of Tobe Hooper’s The Texas Chain Saw Massacre have two very good reasons to get pretty excited about the upcoming horror flick Deviant Behavior. Actors Ed Guinn and John Dugan, who played “Cattle Truck Driver” and “Grandpa,” respectively, in Hooper’s classic, have reportedly signed on for STX Media’s indie horror outing. The actors join Eric Rodrigue, Tania S. Monroy, Alex Heatherley, Hendrick James, Sal Hernandez, and Bonnie Ann in the flick.

Deviant Behavior, which tells the story of a sleazy private detective and his adventures in the world of murder, torture, and depravity, should arrive late next year — mid-winter 2016, to be more precise.

In the Paul Feig-directed Ghostbusters, Melissa McCarthy is Abby Yates, Kristen Wiig is Erin Gilbert, Leslie Jones is Patty Tolan, and Kate McKinnon is Jillian Holtzmann.

Wiig and McCarthy play a pair of unheralded authors who write a book positing that ghosts are real. Flash-forward a few years and Wiig lands a prestigious teaching position at Columbia U. Which is pretty sweet, until her book resurfaces and she is laughed out of academia. Wiig reunites with McCarthy and the other two proton pack-packing phantom wranglers, and she gets some sweet revenge when ghosts invade Manhattan and she and her team have to save the world.

The Ghostbusters reboot will haunt the big screen on July 15, 2016.

And the cameos continue. AICN reports that the actress who played the original film’s receptionist Janine, Annie Potts, has joined the cast of Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters. I know… you can barely contain yourself, right?

The site goes on to report that additional filming is being done at the original Ghostbusters firehouse!

Potts (pictured) joins original stars Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson, and Dan Aykroyd – and the original firehouse apparently – on the list of names that have been confirmed to have a cameo.

Eli Roth Reveals Why He’s Using CG for His Shark Flick Meg

Filmmaker Eli Roth is working on his first big-budget studio flick with Meg, a film based on Steve Alten’s novel Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror. However, those hoping that Roth would spend his entire budget on practical effects will need to temper their expectations accordingly.

During a recent chat with Collider to promote both The Green Inferno and Knock Knock, Roth explained why he’s using computers to bring the massive megalodon shark to life:

The thing is with Meg, the size of the creature, it sort of becomes impractical to do it practically, but I’ve seen how they’ve done the whale in In the Heart of the Sea. They showed me footage and they’re like, ‘Before you judge CG, take a look at this,’ and I was like, ‘Oh my god.’ The whale in In the Heart of the Sea looks so good. I was like, ‘All right, we’re good.’ I wouldn’t do the movie unless I believed the technology was there to do it, and the great thing is with Warner Bros. and the team that we’re doing [it] with, we’re gonna have the resources to do it right.

It’s unknown when Eli Roth’s adaptation of Meg will hit the big screen, but according to the filmmaker, he’s throwing himself into the project as this article hits the web. Here’s hoping the director’s first flick with Warner Bros. produces some extremely memorable results.
