Sony Developing Ghostbusters Animated Feature

Much has been rumored in regards to Ghostbusters in recent months, from multiple different films to all sorts of franchise-expanding craziness. All we know for sure is that Paul Feig’s reboot is headed our way next year, and now it seems an animated feature isn’t far behind.

Per The Tracking Board, Sony is currently developing an animated Ghostbusters film, in conjunction with Feig’s all-female reboot and a possible all-male feature. Ivan Reitman and Tom Pollock are producing, with Ali Bell and Kristine Belson overseeing for Sony Pictures Animation.

The animated action-comedy will reportedly follow a similar storyline to that of the 1984 live-action classic, directed by Reitman, in which a group of scientists team up to fight off ghosts, using gadgets and gizmos to capture the menacing ghouls who have invaded Manhattan.

No word yet on whether the film will center on the original characters or Feig’s brand new ones. For all we know, both teams could be along for the animated ride, which would actually be a fun little treat for Ghostbusters fans both new and old, as well as a nice way to bridge the gap.

We’ll report more on this one as we learn it.

NSFW – Knock Knock Clip Gets Naughty Naughty!

An international RED BAND NOT SAFE FOR WORK clip has arrived for Eli Roth’s upcoming thriller Knock Knock starring Keanu Reeves, and it is asstastic with a side of long, hard banana!

Lionsgate Premiere will release Knock Knock in select theaters and across VOD platforms on October 9, 2015.

Synopsis:
Evan Webber (Reeves) is living the dream. Just look at his beautiful, successful wife; his two wonderful kids; and his truly stunning house—which he designed himself. Of course he did. Things are going so well, Evan doesn’t even mind spending Father’s Day alone while the rest of his family heads out for a beach weekend. And then there’s a knock on the door.

The two young women (Izzo, de Armas) standing on Evan’s doorstep are where Evan’s dream takes a nightmarish turn. Given co-writer/director Eli Roth’s well-deserved reputation for creating cinematic discomfort, it should come as no surprise what happens next: Things get weird and then dark and then much, much, much darker. But this is no splatter film so Roth keeps the horror nice and psychological as Evan’s life—and house—get ripped apart, piece by beautiful piece.

Directors Talk New Leatherface Film

A few new bits of info for the upcoming prequel to The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, entitled Leatherface, have sawed their way online courtesy of an interview with directors Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo over on the French Allocine website, and we have translated the good parts for you right here.

In terms of what their film will be…

“The prequel, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, is directly related to Marcus Nispel’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake. For Leatherface… our film is related to the original Tobe Hooper film, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. The main difference between Leatherface and The Beginning is that ours is going one step further back into the origins of the character by exploring his adolescence.

As for the film’s tone being either gory or more atmospheric as Hooper’s original…

In fact, it will be a bit of both … Just like our previous three movies, we love mixing up the universe as a means to try to surprise the viewers! Basically, one could describe our film as a naturalistic road movie. However, it will also be a brutal and audacious film with a rather unusual narrative structure set in the Texas Chain Saw Massacre universe.

In the film Vanessa Grasse stars as Lizzy, a young nurse at a mental hospital who’s kidnapped by a group of violent teenagers and taken on a road trip from hell. Lili Taylor portrays Verna Sawyer; Sam Coleman, Sam Strike, and James Bloor star as the potential Leatherfaces; and Stephen Dorff stars as a lean, mean Texas Ranger who has a vendetta against the teen boy who grows up to become Leatherface. The cast also includes Nicole Andrews, Julian Kostov, Jessica Madsen, and Lorina Kamburova.

Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo, the French filmmakers behind cult hit Inside, are directing the flick, which was written by up-and-coming genre scribe Seth M. Sherwood (2014 Blood List winner).

Millennium Films, which was behind the 2013 Texas Chainsaw 3D, is once again producing with Christa Campbell, Lati Grobman, and Carl Mazzacone for Lionsgate.

Synopsis:
In this prequel to The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, a young nurse is kidnapped by a group of violent teens who escape from a mental hospital and take her on a road trip from hell. Pursued by an equally deranged lawman out for revenge, one of these teens is destined for tragedy and horrors that will destroy his mind, molding him into the monster we now call Leatherface.

The Cabin in the Woods 2 a Possibility?

By the time we got to the end of The Cabin in the Woods, it seemed as if the universe had breathed its final breath. Apparently Lionsgate feels the need to administer some CPR for a sequel.

In an interview with director Drew Goddard over on Den of Geek, Goddard revealed some details of his chat with the studio about a possible sequel.

The funny part is, I don’t think we planned that movie to do a sequel, you know? But that being said, the fun thing about Cabin is, the rules are pretty crazy. We get away with a lot of crazy stuff,” says Goddard. “So, I’m sure we could figure it out if we got inspired to. I know Joss and I both feel like we don’t want to tarnish what we did with the first one. With a sequel, we’d only do it if it made us laugh hard enough, I suppose.

Stay tuned.

Sony Pictures have released all of their clips for the upcoming adaptation of R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps and we have ’em for you right here in one neat little spot. No fuss, no muss. Whatever muss is…

Jack Black, Ken Marino, Amy Ryan, Odeya Rush, Ryan Lee, Halston Sage, Timothy Simons, Amanda Lund, and Dylan Minnette star.

In the film, directed by Rob Letterman, Black portrays famed children’s horror writer R.L. Stine, whose monsters, it turns out, are actually real. When they escape from his books and attack an unsuspecting town, it’s up to Stine and two teens to get the monsters back into their stories.

Goosebumps, which comes from a screenplay by Darren Lemke and Mike White, is produced by Neal H. Moritz through his Original Film banner and Deborah Forte of Scholastic Entertainment. Rob Letterman directs.

Synopsis:
Upset about moving from a big city to a small town, teenager Zach Cooper (Dylan Minnette) finds a silver lining when he meets the beautiful girl, Hannah (Odeya Rush), living right next door. But every silver lining has a cloud, and Zach’s comes when he learns that Hannah has a mysterious dad who is revealed to be R. L. Stine (Jack Black), the author of the bestselling Goosebumps series. It turns out that there is a reason why Stine is so strange… he is a prisoner of his own imagination – the monsters that his books made famous are real, and Stine protects his readers by keeping them locked up in their books. When Zach unintentionally unleashes the monsters from their manuscripts and they begin to terrorize the town, it’s suddenly up to Stine, Zach, and Hannah to get all of them back in the books where they belong.

10 Awesome Original Songs Written for Horror Movies

$
0
0

Music has proven itself to be an integral part of our favorite horror films, to the point that iconic scores like Halloween and Psycho are as important to the enduring popularity of those classics as the stories and characters themselves. But it’s not exactly scores we’re here to talk about today.

It’s not something that often happens nowadays, but back in the 80s and 90s, it wasn’t all that uncommon for studios to task musicians with writing and performing original songs for their horror movies – which would typically play over the opening or ending credits of the film.

To show you what we mean, here are 10 of our favorite horror movie songs, all of which would’ve been given awards at the Oscars if we were in charge!

This first one actually WAS nominated for Best Original Song at the 1973 Academy Awards. Believe it or not, it was 1972’s Ben, a sequel to Willard, that this song was written for, and Michael Jackson’s beautiful rendition of the loving ode made it a bona fide chart-topping hit. The song, which was originally written for Donny Osmond, was performed by Jackson over the ending credits of the film. Yep. A young Michael Jackson singing a love song about a rat. Gotta love it!

Something you might not know about the late David Hess, who played Krug in the original Last House on the Left, is that he was a singer/songwriter before he ever became an actor. In fact, it was Hess who performed the original recording of “All Shook Up,” which Elvis Presley went on to turn into a #1 hit. Because of his flair for music, Hess composed the soundtrack for The Last House on the Left, in addition to starring in it. “Wait for the Rain” is the most noteworthy song from the soundtrack, which played over the opening credits sequence. Eli Roth was such a fan that he used the song in his debut feature, Cabin Fever.

Horror movie songs don’t get much more iconic than this one, written and performed by Alice Cooper. “He’s Back (The Man Behind the Mask)” was a perfect companion piece to the fun and self-referential Friday the 13th sequel Jason Lives, celebrating the return of the real Jason Voorhees. Ensuring its future as an awesome export of the 1980s, the end credits song was given its very own music video (above), which saw Alice Cooper being attacked by Jason and featured several clips from the film. The personification of everything we love about the 80s, right here.

The Top 10 Films to Watch This October

$

0

With more than 30 genre pics hitting the market in October, fans are going to have ample opportunities to discover fresh new scares. Sure, there are a few movies headed our way that look less than inspiring, but the bulk of the lot hold some tremendous appeal.

There are 10 films in particular that have our juices really pumping. And there are some very, very respectable talents behind these films, which only further drives our need to check these pictures out.

If you want to know what you should be really paying attention to, read on. We’ve got a look at the 10 most promising genre efforts arriving in the sacred month of October!

A Christmas Horror Story: (October 2) This is a brilliant film. An anthology handled in similar fashion to Michael Dougherty’s Trick ‘r Treat, A Christmas Horror Story is arguably every bit as enthralling as Dougherty’s picture. It also has a very parallel vibe, being a seasonal film and all. We get an assortment of excellent performances, some very strong screenwriting, the baddest rendition of Santa Claus ever featured on film, an awesome Krampus, and a memorable little stint from the always amazing William Shatner. Believe this: The hype surrounding A Christmas Horror Story is very, very deserved.

A Christmas Horror Story

Deathgasm: (October 2) Another frontrunner for best genre flick of the year, Deathgasm is one wild and respectable tribute to Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead. But it’s a movie all its own, and it’s damn impressive. Metalheads summon a demon of unfathomable power, and all hell breaks loose on earth. One hardcore rocker and his few rogue buddies must bring the insanity to an end, and the outlandish violence that unfolds before that can happen is just stunning. The flick looks great and reminds us that horror films can be a whole hell of a lot of fun!

Deathgasm

Tremors 5: Bloodlines: (October 6) I haven’t seen a screener for Tremors 5: Bloodlines come down the pike, and that’s killing me inside. The fifth film in the fan-friendly franchise looks to be the most fun we’ve seen from the series since Ron Underwood’s original feature. We’ve got new faces and familiar faces, new monsters and familiar monsters. The production values look a bit higher than the last few installments, and well, the trailer is just bonkers! It’s rare that a franchise fifth feels so magnetic, but Tremors 5: Bloodlines is most certainly calling to us.

Tremors

Knock Knock: (October 9) Eli Roth is on a hot streak seldom enjoyed in Hollywood. He recently produced the highly enjoyable and completely unforgiving Clown as well as the well-received The Stranger; one of the most anticipated films of the year – The Green Inferno – just landed in our laps; and now he’s got yet another compelling piece coming to theaters soon. Knock Knock seems to be a different look for Roth, but it also quite nasty. Nasty good! Keanu Reeves rocks, the beautiful Lorenza Izzo is back on the Roth radar, and the trailers look superb. We want to see this… badly!

Knock Knock 1

Suspension: (October 16) One of this year’s “8 Films to Die For,” Suspension is going to appeal to horror freaks and comic book addicts. It’s also going to likely sate the appetites of those who fiend for fun slasher films. Early glimpses of the film suggest an After Dark standout, and we’re certainly hoping that suggestion becomes reality. Suspension doesn’t have a world of buzz surrounding it, but it could be a very special little film!

suspension killer

Tales of Halloween: (October 16) Eleven filmmakers come together to offer us what promises to be a truly epic anthology film. We all love Halloween, and we’re always on the hunt for a top-notch film focused on the 31st of October. With talents like Darren Lynn Bousman, Neil Marshall, Lucky McKee, Dave Parker, and Paul Solet attached (among others), chances are really high that this is the Halloween movie we’ve been waiting for. One glimpse at the trailer, and you’re likely to side with this opinion – it’s a certified winner!

Tales of Halloween

Goosebumps: (October 16) Nostalgia time is coming to theaters soon. Longtime fans of R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps books are going to be lining up around the block to catch this one on the big screen, and for good reason. The movie looks like an absolute blast. We’ll see a number of popular villains make their way to the live-action adaptation, and while this one is clearly CGI-heavy, it still looks rather aesthetically appealing. Likely to work well for the entire family, the arrival of the Goosebumps film is long overdue but still heavily appreciated.

goosebumps-4

Crimson Peak: (October 16) Just to make it known, Crimson Peak looks alarmingly heavy on CGI. Early clips and trailers hint at CGI that may leave audiences on the disappointed side of things. But this is a Guillermo del Toro feature, and del Toro is such a wizard with horror that we’ve got absolutely no choice but to extend the man the benefit of the doubt. He’s very, very rarely done us wrong. This Gothic creep-out could prove to be a riveting film. The talent in front of the camera is accounted for, and the talent behind the camera is accounted for; now it’s time to see how the entire production comes together.

Crimson Peak

Bone Tomahawk: (October 23) There should be no need to sell you on the idea of watching Bone Tomahawk. Kurt Russell makes a long anticipated return to the horror genre, and that return comes via the way of the western. Western horror rocks, Kurt Russell is a living legend, and S. Craig Zahler tells an incredibly fine story, as evidenced by the heavily slept on 2011 chiller Asylum Blackout (seriously, if you haven’t seen this beauty, look into it). There’s absolutely no reason to believe this one will do anything but impress.

Bone Tomahawk

Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension: (October 23) The Paranormal Activity franchise took a brief hiatus, and that hiatus was needed in a major way. The last few films have grown rather stale, offering fans muddled storylines and virtually zero fear factor. Perhaps the months away from the series have afforded creative minds the time to nurture a strong story and prepare a film that may actually leave us a bit unnerved. The first two films in the franchise were quite strong, and we’re hoping Blumhouse and Paramount have come together to ensure the franchise ends on the strongest note possible.

Joshua Hoffine’s Fishy Innsmouth Photo Washes Ashore

It’s always a good day when some kind of extremely nifty Lovecraftian project pops up online. Joshua Hoffine recently channeled the acclaimed H.P. Lovecraft’s classic tale The Shadow Over Innsmouth for his latest photography project. With the help of character actor Doug Jones, Hoffine and special effects artist J. Anthony Kosar created a fantastic tribute to Lovecraft’s insanely creepy story.

Hoffine and company raised over $25,000 on Kickstarter to bring this incredible image to life. And from the looks of things, every penny went into making this photo as vivid as humanly possible. The amount of detail is simply unreal, and the creatures themselves are exactly how I envisioned them while reading The Shadow Over Innsmouth. Can you tell I’m impressed?

When you’re finished gawking at the Innsmouth image below, plan a trip to Joshua Hoffine’s blog, where he goes into extreme detail about how he created this deeply impressive photograph.

Mirrored Gives You Another Good Reason to Fear Your Reflection

Horror movies about mirrors are almost always creepy. Hell, even Martin Scorsese’s “Amazing Stories” episode “Mirror, Mirror” is reason enough to avoid your reflection for the rest of your life. And don’t even get me started on Candyman or the Bloody Mary urban legend. These examples could convince me to ban all reflective surfaces from my house forever.

Writer/producer Nicole Bird and director Ryan Shovey’s short film Mirrored presents yet another example of why mirrors are nothing but trouble. Fortunately for those who can’t wait to check this one out, Mirrored will screen at a handful of festivals this October. More on that in a moment.

First, let’s take a closer look at what the flick is about:

Dylan’s depressed and all he wants to do is veg out in front of the television playing video games. But he needs to get a new mirror installed in his bathroom. Soon after, he notices weird things happen when he turns off the light in his bathroom.

Interested parties can check out Mirrored at the Screamfest Horror Film Festival in Los Angeles on October 17. The screening starts at 10 pm, so make sure to plan your life accordingly. If you can’t make it to this festival, the short will also play at the RIP Horror Film Festival in Los Angeles (October 29 through October 31) and the Puerto Rico Horror Film Festival (October 22 through October 28).

Check out some stills and the flick’s awesome retro poster below.

We told you yesterday that should you choose to pick up Saw: The Complete Collection or Saw: Unrated over at iTunes, then you’ll also be snagging Game Changer: The Legacy of Saw, a retrospective that takes a loving look at the franchise, for free! Read on for an exclusive clip from the documentary.

About Game Changer: The Legacy of Saw:
The film that redefined the horror genre, Saw: Unrated, is making audiences shriek all over again. Generations of movie fans have been thrilled and terrified by Saw’s blood-curdling story of a serial killer who traps his victims in a sadistic game of survival. For true horror fans who want a peek behind the scenes of the creation and development of the most successful horror franchise in history, the iTunes digital release of Saw: Unrated and Saw: The Complete Collection now includes a brand-new three-part, 77-minute retrospective, Game Changer: The Legacy of Saw.

Game Changer: The Legacy of Saw digs into the guts of the successful franchise with all-new interviews with creators James Wan (director of Furious 7) and Leigh Whannell (writer of the Insidious franchise) plus original cast members Tobin Bell, Shawnee Smith, and Cary Elwes and producers of the Saw franchise, Mark Burg and Oren Koules. Learn about the inspiration for the film from the creators of Saw; get a closer look at the infamous reverse bear trap mask with Shawnee Smith; hear from directors Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw II, Saw III, Saw IV), David Hackl (Saw V), and Kevin Greutert (Saw IV, Saw 3D: The Final Chapter); and see Eli Roth’s (Hostel) take on the “torture porn” genre. In the famous words of Jigsaw, it is time to “make your choice.”

Watch or don’t watch. Choose wisely.

What’s today’s lesson, you ask? If you don’t already own all of the Saw films, now’s probably the best time to gather every flick in the series (presently, of course) in one fell swoop.
