Despite not yet having a release date, we now have the first trailer for Minutes to Midnight, starring William Baldwin, available for your viewing pleasure along with a few new stills.

The film comes from Mega Shark vs. Crocosaurus director Christopher Ray and follows a bunch of friends being picked off by a masked assailant at an isolated ski lodge.

William Baldwin may not be synonymous with the genre, having appeared in only a handful of horror films, so it helps to also have veteran Bill Moseley on board. Minutes to Midnight also stars Richard Greico, John Hennigan, Dominique Swain, and Viva Bianca.

Synopsis:
On New Year’s Eve, seven friends visit a ski lodge to celebrate the New Year. But before midnight can strike, they are systematically hunted down by a group of demented masked murderers whose cryptic agenda is more diabolical than anyone could ever imagine.

Exclusive: WARPO Announces Don’t Cuddle the Krampus!

WARPO has been making a name for itself among hardcore and casual toy collectors alike with its Legends of Cthulhu project. From Kickstarter success story to a distribution deal with Diamond, the company’s eye for detail, coupled with a heavy, obvious love for all things retro, is making it one of my new favorite toy companies. As WARPO’s mega Cthulhu figure ships out across the planet, they thought it was time to show off the next big thing… “DON’T CUDDLE THE KRAMPUS“!! Dread Central has the exclusive info…

We took some time to talk with Bryan Katzel, President of WARPO, to find out how success is treating them, how many human sacrifices were involved in that success, and most important of all, the details on their next killer project.

Dread Central: When we first saw the Legends of Cthulhu project, we could tell you were old school horror fans, but when we saw the box for the BIG Cthulhu, we knew you were invading our dreams and taking cues from them. So… Question 1: How do you get into our dreams, and are you witches?

WARPO: We are definitely not witches… being males, we prefer the title “warlocks.”

DC: Did you ever expect the world would fall in love with an ancient green monster with a squid for a face?

WARPO: Yes and no. Lovecraft’s work is amazing, and I believe that today the mythos he created is so relatable to our fearful, anxiety-ridden society. But where the love is coming from I have no clue… maybe our society is starving for new fantasy… new monsters, and maybe we’ve all gone insane. Either way, Ph’nglui mglw’nafh Cthulhu R’lyeh wgah’nagl fhtagn.

DC: How was the “Don’t Cuddle the Krampus” project born?

WARPO: Krampus is something that has been on our radar for quite some time now, growing more and more popular in recent years, but at the same time not really receiving the type of collectible toy that WARPO thought it deserved. Coming off of the Legends of Cthulhu line, we knew that we wanted to switch gears and let the world know that WARPO is a collectible toy company that will be producing product in a multitude of product categories. We love the 80’s and the monster toys that existed at the time, especially all the soft goods like My Pet Monster, Madballs, Boglins, and Gremlins. When we hit upon the thought of “What if there was a toy company in 1986 that knew about the Krampus mythology and decided to create a toy line to compete with the gross-out/monster toys of the era?,” we knew we needed to make it a reality.

DC: What is it about the low-res nature of the 80’s and their desperate need of tracking adjustment that is so appealing?

WARPO: It’s something that really hits home to our generation and is so closely tied to the products and properties we fell in love with at that time. Media was a lot harder to come by in the 80’s so you’d record anything you could to get a glimpse into that world that held your favorite superhero, fantasy character, or mega robot. I personally had tapes that wore out from the amount of times I’d watched the toy commercials and cartoons I’d captured… but I squinted through all the static and snow until that tape broke because it was a gateway into a world that totally amazed me.

DC: So, what’s the roll-out plan for “Don’t Cuddle the Krampus”?

WARPO: “Don’t Cuddle the Krampus” will come with one plush Krampus toy standing at 18-1/2” tall and comes complete with three Naughty Kid pillows to collect and carry in a Naughty Kid bag and removable molded manacles with chains. We teamed up with toy industry veteran Jim Groman (My Pet Monster, Madballs, Barnyard Commandos) to design, sculpt, and prototype this toy so not only is it totally retro, but it also has all the attention to detail that comes with 30 years in the toy industry!

We’re launching the “Don’t Cuddle the Krampus” product line on Kickstarter at 8am on November 10th. (THAT’S TOMORROW!!) This will be the first opportunity for people to reserve the toy and a ton of other killer merchandise only available on the Kickstarter. One exciting reward level includes the “Krampus Delivery Level” where backers will receive a lump of Krampus coal that can be sent this year as a holiday gift to alert the recipient a Krampus will be coming for them next year.

Check out all the details about the “Don’t Cuddle the Krampus” Kickstarter campaign at warpo.com/kickstarter, but first enjoy this awesome retro TV spot they put together for it.

It’s more crime thriller than straight horror film, but considering the parties involved in The Lincoln, we wanted to bring you the first word on the project along with a few behind-the-scenes photos.

Principal photography commenced this week on The Lincoln, from Blanc/Biehn Productions and Javelina 98 Productions, which is produced by Jennifer Blanc-Biehn, Lony Ruhmann, Michael Biehn, Cynthia Parades, and others.

The story centers on a woman driving her classic Lincoln Continental to run a series of dangerous errands that will save her and her loved ones. It takes place over the course of one night in the seedy world of human trafficking in LA.

The film is directed by Stephanie Paris, and the screenplay is written by Staci Layne Wilson and Stephanie Paris, based on a story by Lony Ruhmann. The cast includes Paris plus Blanc/Biehn favorites Jenimay Walker (Serpent’s Lullaby, Psychophonia), THE Richard aka Richard Cardinale (Fetish Factory), and Noel Gugliami aka NoelG (Training Day) along with Nick Nicholson, Holy Scar, Emma Julia Jacobs, Chad Christopher Kline, Eric Audé, Camille Calvin, Tony Debeneddetto, Aaron Kai, Kurk Kasparian, and many more.

Since the film is more thriller than horror, you probably won’t hear a lot more about it, but if something comes along that catches our eye, we’ll be sure to share it!

Jamie Lee Gets a Shower Surprise in this Clip from Scream Queens Episode 1.08 – Mommie Dearest

We haven’t talked much about “Scream Queens” lately, but with the episode in which Jamie Lee Curtis recreates her mother’s iconic shower scene in Psycho coming up tonight – and a sneak peek of it being made available – we figured we’d revisit the series and see how it’s faring among Dread Central readers.

Personally, I’m looking forward to the first season wrapping up and the killer(s) being revealed already.  The plot is starting to wear thin, and without Niecy Nash appearing as Denise Hemphill, last week’s ep was a bit of a grind to sit through. Even so, Jamie Lee has been a shining light along with Emma Roberts, who is killing it (pun intended) week in and week out as the self-absorbed Chanel.  Let us know what your thoughts are!

And now… on with the clip!

“Scream Queens” Episode 1.08 – “Mommie Dearest” (airs 11/10/15)
MOMMY ISSUES ABOUND – Grace (Skyler Samuels) enlists Chanel’s (Emma Roberts) help to learn more about KKT’s past and ends up realizing she might not be so different from her nemesis after all. Dean Munsch (Jamie Lee Curtis) goes “psycho” when she becomes the latest target of the Red Devils. Meanwhile, Denise (Niecy Nash) becomes the new house mother of Kappa House, and a shocking figure from the past returns.

Brad Pitt’s Plan B and Netflix Come On Board Bong Joon-Ho’s New Monster Movie Okja

The biggest star on the planet may finally be getting tired of people obsessing over his personal life and deciding that he will be better off devoting his time and resources to other endeavors.

The Hollywood Reporter tells us that Brad Pitt’s company, Plan B, has come on board Okja, the new monster movie from The Host and Snowpiercer director Bong Joon-Ho, as a co-producer.

What’s more, Netflix has also come on board as a financial partner, investing a hefty $50 million into the flick. This is one of their most hefty price tags to date, and unfortunately it seems to indicate that the film will forgo a theatrical release. But hey, at least the Weinsteins aren’t involved this time…

Joon-Ho is optimistic about the involvement of Netflix:

“It really is a fantastic opportunity for me as a filmmaker. For Okja, I needed a bigger budget than I had for Snowpiercer and also complete creative freedom. Netflix offered me the two conditions that are difficult to have in hand simultaneously.”

We recently brought you word of how excited we were by the news of Okja’s big name cast, including Jake Gyllenhaal, Paul Dano, Tilda Swinton, and Bill Nighy. And while we still don’t know exactly what kind of monster the titular Okja will be, THR is saying that the film will center on the friendship that it develops with a young girl.

With a super talented cast and director, this is one of our most anticipated films here at Dread Central. Filming doesn’t start until late 2016, but we’ll be keeping you updated until then.

Vertical Captures The Girl in the Photographs

One of the last projects Wes Craven left for us is his executive produced feature The Girl in the Photographs (review), and word has just come that Vertical Entertainment has acquired North American rights to the film.  Read on for all the details, including when we’ll be able to see it!

From the Press Release:
Following its world premiere early this year at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival, Vertical Entertainment has acquired North American rights to Nick Simon’s horror crime thriller THE GIRL IN THE PHOTOGRAPHS starring Kal Penn, Claudia Lee, Kenny Wormald, Toby Hemingway, Luke Baines, Miranda Rae Mayo, Katharine Isabelle, and Mitch Pileggi. The film was executive produced by Nawaf Alghanim and horror legend Wes Craven as his last credit before he passed this summer.

Vertical plans on a Q2 2016 theatrical release. Highland Film Group is currently selling international territories at AFM.

In THE GIRL IN THE PHOTOGRAPHS, big-city glamour clashes with small-town values when a celebrity photographer and his entourage descend upon a sleepy community to investigate the bloody doings of a serial killer.

“Nick Simon’s story is really everything you would want in a classic Wes Craven film,” said Mitch Budin, co-president at Vertical. “We are thrilled to be in business with Nick and the rest of the filmmaking team to bring their vision for an old school horror film to audiences.”

“This film drew inspiration from my deep love of horror films in my childhood, and I wanted to make a horror film that I would want to see as a fan of the genre. We got down to one of the most important elements of a classic horror film: the thrill of being scared and not knowing what is around the corner or, worse yet, knowing exactly what is around the corner,” said filmmaker Nick Simon. “I am excited to work with Vertical Entertainment on the release campaign, and I am beyond grateful to everyone who had a hand in getting this film made, especially my mentor, Wes Craven. This film is dedicated to his memory; it was an absolute dream come true to have collaborated with Wes and also renowned cinematographer Dean Cundey. I have been humbled by their kindness and passion for telling this story with me.”

And in a 2014 statement from Wes Craven attributed to him during the development stage for the film: “Sometimes you read a script and you just know. From first draft to final cut, Nick has told a unique story that will leave you wondering: Is it always good to be noticed? It has been a pleasure to work with Nick from his days in my WGA mentor group to picture lock. You’ll be hearing from him again.”

THE GIRL IN THE PHOTOGRAPHS was directed by Nick Simon; written by Osgood Perkins, Robert Morast, and Nick Simon; executive produced by Wes Craven and Nawaf Alghanim; and produced by Thomas Mahoney and Andrea Chung, with cinematography by Dean Cundey, editing by Michael Griffin, production design by Eric Fraser, and music by Nima Fakhrara. The film was made by Alghanim Entertainment.

More New Artwork Creeps in for The X-Files

Fox isn’t about to let us forget that another chapter of “The X-Files” is beginning in just a few months, and today they released a batch of new artwork for the upcoming “event series.” We found two of the posters on their press site, but the other comes courtesy of TVLine.

“The X-Files” returns to Fox with a special two-night event beginning Sunday, January 24, 2016 (10:00-11:00 PM ET/7:00-8:00 PM PT), following the NFC Championship Game, and continuing with its time period premiere on Monday, January 25 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT).

David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson reprise their iconic roles as Agent Fox Mulder and Agent Dana Scully in a mixture of stand-alone investigative episodes and those that further the original show’s seminal mythology. In the opening episode, Mulder and Scully take on a case of a possible alien abductee.

The all-new episodes will feature appearances by guest stars including Joel McHale (“Community”), Robbie Amell (“The Flash”), Lauren Ambrose (“Dig,” “Six Feet Under”), Annabeth Gish (“The Bridge”), Annet Mahendru (“The Americans”), Rhys Darby (“Flight of the Conchords”), Kumail Nanjiani (“Silicon Valley”), and William B. Davis, who reprises his role as “Cigarette Smoking Man.” Three of the episodes are written and directed by Chris Carter, with the remaining new episodes written and directed by original series veterans Glen Morgan, Darin Morgan, and James Wong.

“The X-Files” originally premiered in September 1993. Over the course of its nine-season run, the influential series went from breakout sci-fi favorite to massive global hit and became one of the most successful television dramas of all time. The show, which earned sixteen Emmy Awards, five Golden Globes, and a Peabody Award, follows FBI special agents Scully (Anderson) and Mulder (Duchovny) as they investigate unexplained cases – “X-Files” – for which the only answers involve paranormal phenomena. “The X-Files” is a production of 20th Century Fox Television in association with Ten Thirteen Productions. Carter is executive producer and creator of the series. Glen Morgan also serves as an executive producer.

The Tape Brings VHS Horror to Steam

$

Ah, here’s something new and refreshing. A first-person indie horror game on Steam. You don’t see many of those. It’s not like every other game being released on Steam these days is a first-person indie horror title. Oh wait…

Having said that, The Tape does look like it will stand above the rest. If there’s one thing that The Ring movies taught us, it’s that VHS footage can be really downright scary at times, and looking at the trailer below, I’d say they got the message.

We don’t have too much info about this title yet, save for a brief synopsis written by someone for whom English does not appear to be their first language, so keep an eye on the game’s Steam page for updates.

Synopsis:
The Tape is a first-person horror game with found footage stylization, slow pace, and creepy atmosphere.  The game relies mostly on creating heavy atmosphere instead of cheap jump scares. Some of the scenes you will witness in this game are the most disturbing in horror game history.

The game tells the story of a middle-aged detective who is tasked with the search for a young girl, missing in US suburbia. He travels to an abandoned house to check some of his clues and reveals things so horrifying that it make him question his own sanity.

Features:
– Explore the dark and terrifying mystery of a missing girl.
– Face horrible creatures and enemies.
– Uncover the truth or at least try to escape.

Sheborg Massacre Trailer Is Just as Crazy as the Title Suggests

As the trailer informs us, Sheborg Massacre is more or less based on a true story. I must have missed the news articles about a murderous female cyborg vigilante.

Director Daniel Armstrong has made quite a name for himself in the action exploitation genre with films like MurderDrome and Metal Murder 3D, and although it doesn’t yet have a release date, Sheborg Massacre certainly seems like it could be his most insane piece of work yet.

You can follow Sheborg Massacre via production company StrongMan Pictures’ Facebook account.

Synopsis:
Self-styled tough girl and punk activist Dylan loves fighting for a cause… literally any cause will do (much to the chagrin of her BFF Eddie). When an alien fugitive crash-lands into a local puppy farm and begins turning people into machines that feed on puppy flesh, Dylan has to decide if she believes in any cause enough to risk her life, take on the Sheborg menace, and save the world.

Overdog Game Night

Dread Central loves to celebrate all things horror, and gaming has always been one of the most interactive ways to appreciate the genre. So when an “AAA” game like Call of Duty puts out a new title with a major emphasis on its revamped Zombie Mode, we take note.

Since games are more fun to play than to read about, we’ve partnered with Overdog to host a Dread Central community game night this Friday, the 13th of November, so all of us can meet up and play Zombie Mode together.

How To Join The Event:

Overdog is a matchmaking app on the Xbox One that gives communities like Dread Central a hub through which we can all game together directly on the console. They also connect gamers around shared interests in movies, music, or whatever else you find interesting.

To match with other participants during Friday’s event using Overdog, simply…

  • Download the app from the Xbox One App Marketplace
  • Like “Dread Central” (featured on the Overdog home page!), along with your other favorite interests and games, to build your gaming profile

Exclusive: Ralph Sarchie Talks The Demon Files and Much More!

Retired N.Y.P.D. Sergeant Ralph Sarchie is an enigma. Here’s one of the most no bullshit guys you could ever meet working actively in the field of the paranormal, where he applies many of the techniques taught to him over the years to help save people’s lives in a very different way.

Recently we sat down with Ralph to talk about his new show “The Demon Files” and his motivations to take what he calls “the work” to a whole new level.

You don’t DO this show,” remarked Sarchie to Destination America pertaining to them stating that they do a lot of these types of shows. “Of all the types of shows out there, I’ve never seen anyone ever really get help. The closest one would probably be John Zaffis’ show, “The Haunted Collector,” but even then he’s not showing the people how things are done. We have this negative spirit in this house, but how do we get it out? I want people to know that there is a way to do it, but it is NOT easy. This is a lifestyle. You cannot just be running around with cameras and just recording things. You have to live it. You have to live a religious life, or none of your prayers will be answered… and you’ll get crushed like a grape.

There are people out there who call themselves ‘exorcists.’ They’re phonies. Clowns. They don’t have any conception of who the devil is. You cannot know the devil unless you really know God. They think studying the devil is the way to learn about him. That’s a mistake. You learn about the devil by studying God. The devil is the enemy of your soul. Your best protection is in the Blessed Mother.

Sarchie, however, didn’t always have such great faith in the Lord.

When I was a kid, I was an altar boy. I served Mass every Sunday. Of course, when I got older, I discovered… girls,” said Sarchie with a laugh. “God sort of went out the window at that point. Listen… I was a regular teenager, ya know? I’m a regular person now! I’m no different from anyone else.

After the things that he’s seen over the years, he realized the only way to get through the turmoil and the chaos was through his faith. This led him to do what he does now with his team.

There are eight of us on my team. With the exception of Mark Stabinski, who’s been with me for 15 years, everyone else on it are people who have contacted me over the years. Sean [Austin] had a radio show and wanted to speak with me. I said to him, ‘Hey, do you want to investigate some cases with me?’ And he said, ‘Yeah, sure!’ That’s how casual it was. All the others had contacted me individually, wanting to investigate with me. I turned a lot of people away. I don’t make the decisions regarding who enters the work, but I do make the decisions of who works with me. These are the people I chose. I know I made the right decision by choosing them. I didn’t put this team together; God did. That’s what I tell them.

The beauty of the show is that I am now able to take my entire team with me on investigations nationwide. Usually I may have only one or two people with me. Sometimes I may not have anyone. So in that respect having the show did change around some of the things that I do on an investigation. I was able to add to the process to gain more information. Before I would bring recorders with me and use them predominantly for interview purposes. The video cameras that I had brought with me were used for the same thing. For exorcisms of people, the cameras were used to create a record of what transpired because it’s not an unknown phenomenon for people to die during an exorcism. If someone passes during or afterwards, the investigators are going to want to see what happened.

What I used to do was this,” Sarchie elaborates on his previous investigating technique. “I would go to a house and sit down with the family briefly and then do my walk-through. After that I would then sit down with them again and do an in-depth interview, which would sometimes last four to five hours. After the interview I would determine whether or not an exorcism was needed or whether I would just leave. Now, with the show, we needed to present something differently. Everyone is a paranormal investigator on my team with the exception of Mark. They brought their equipment with them. I didn’t know what any of it was so we went through a lot of question and answer sessions. I went through each and every device because I wanted to know how it worked. I would do religious provocation, and then I’d let the team go out and do their thing. Afterwards we’d review the evidence and make the decision on whether or not an exorcism was needed pretty much on the fly.

One thing you won’t be seeing on “The Demon Files,” however, is demonic possession exorcisms.

Demonic possession is a totally different ballgame,” says Sarchie regarding whether or not we’d see people being exorcised along with locations. “That’s something that I feel should not be regularly televised. I will not do that. Real exorcists, and not the fuckin’ yahoos that are running around out there now who are trying to get enough money to get a billboard of their fuckin’ face telling people that they can do an exorcism for them… I’m not talking about idiots like that; I’m talking about the priests who have been called by God… they don’t talk about this in public. They don’t have to. It’s not their job. They accept whoever God sends them. They don’t go out soliciting cases. I have never solicited a case in my entire fuckin’ life. I don’t do that. You have to call me in order for me to help you. I don’t go door-to-door saying shit like ‘Hey, I sense from the outside that your house is demonically infested. Let me come in, you give me 500 bucks, and I’ll clear your house out.’ I don’t charge money. I never have.

My main goal for ‘The Demon Files’ is to save as many souls as I can. I can’t help everybody. There are some people that I’m not gonna be able to help. But I can still help them with their spirituality, which in turn strengthens them to deal with the problems that for some reason God has given them. It could simply be a case of God saying, ‘You know what? I’m gonna save these people’s souls, and I’m gonna make the devil bother them to do it.’ That’s the beauty of what God does. He allows the devil to operate in people’s lives. Not everybody because the demonic cannot do anything unless God gives them permission to do it. He uses the devil to bring people who he’s lost back to him. And when that happens… that is like a big kick in the devil’s ball sac! Oh, man is that a swift kick in the balls! That’s why I better go to heaven and not hell because he’s gonna be looking to make me his special toy for all eternity! I’m sure he doesn’t like me!

About “The Demon Files”:
Ralph Sarchie’s life is divided between two very different worlds. In one he’s a decorated sergeant for the N.Y.P.D. who proudly protected and served his city for over 18 years. In the other he’s a highly regarded demonologist, helping real American families who fear they may be threatened by the demonic. His book, Beware the Night, details how he uses his cop-hardened savvy to combat supernatural evil at every turn and served as the inspiration for the 2014 movie Deliver Us from Evil. Now, in “The Demon Files,” Sarchie and his team travel across the country meeting with people apparently suffering from demonic activity.

Sarchie stars along with Mark Stabinski, Mike Dolan, Brian McCauley, Sean Austin, Kayne Anderson Ates, and Debra Aguayo.

Look for the show on Destination America Sunday nights at 10:00 PM ET. For more information visit “The Demon Files” on Facebook and visit “The Demon Files” on Destination America.
