Jaws Will Never Be Remade Steven Spielberg Insists

$

0

As far as remakes are concerned, Steven Spielberg’s films are pretty much untouchable, both because they’re already perfect and because Spielberg simply won’t allow them to be remade. Despite recent rumors, this week he promises that Jaws will forever remain in the ’70s.

In an interview with Deadline, Spielberg made the following assertion…

I would never remake one of my own movies — starting with Jaws — but there are Amblin titles in the library that could inspire new stories that were made popular by the films. There isn’t a single title that I’ve earmarked, but yes, I would like to. I will be discussing that with Jeff (Skoll) and Ronnie (Meyer) and Donna (Langley).”

I would never remake Jaws,” he hammered home.

Of course, a Jurassic World-style sequel is still a possibility, and we’d welcome one with open arms!

Uwe Boll Gets Raw with New Podcast; Rampage 3 Gets a Teaser Trailer; Declares Presidential Campaign

When last we heard from Uwe Boll, he was declaring his intentions to retire from cinema to play golf for the rest of his life after angrily denouncing the world following his failed crowdfunding effort for Rampage 3. He must have gotten bored playing golf because not only is Rampage 3 about to become a reality, he’s now begun an internet podcast entitled Uwe Boll: Raw.

Oh, and he claims to be running for President of the United States. Up yours, Article II!

About Uwe Boll: Raw:
In late 2015, Uwe Boll exploded onto the scene with a talk show unlike anything else that we had heard before. Uwe Boll: Raw dissolved barriers through his coverage, inspiring fans old and new alike to stand up and take action. Covering everything from politics to Hollywood and beyond, Uwe gave a voice to the people that those in power hoped to silence and ignore. Uwe took on the failures and hypocrisy rooted deeply within the broken structure of our society, while giving a strong voice to the ignored and unheard. The truth was brought to America and the world on Uwe Boll: Raw.

Am I the only one greatly disappointed that with a title like “Uwe Boll: Raw” this isn’t his attempt to launch a pro wrestling show? Could you imagine Uwe Boll in WWE in a Mr. McMahon role? How does one say “no chance in hell” in German?

Judging by the trailer (which you will find below), the many things Dr. Boll rants and raves about include calling for the murder of NRA President Wayne LaPierre, something about fucking Donald Trump’s wife, and getting tips for picking up women from Bill Cosby.

Turns out Uwe Boll: Raw began back in October and he’s already four episodes into season one. Past episodes feature him proclaiming his love for animals, decrying the state of indie cinema, explaining why Paul Thomas Anderson and Terrence Malick are overrated, gushing over German cuisine, his thoughts on the Paris terrorist attacks and European immigration crisis, tackling the climate change controversy, and declaring his intentions to run for President of the United States on the Republican ticket.

He also talks quite a bit about his latest cinematic screed Rampage 3: No Mercy and already has a teaser trailer up that mostly consists of franchise star Brendan Fletcher amongst various Washington, D.C., landmarks, no doubt plotting a rampage with major anti-establishment political implications. This latest Rampage is due for release next summer.

Head over to the show’s official website for links to all his 40+-minute Raw podcasts, more info on Rampage 3, and a shop where you can buy all the “Uwe Boll for President” swag you’ll ever need.

Byron C. Miller’s The Anatomy of Monsters Now Available on VOD and Digital Download

Director Byron C. Miller describes his indie horror flick The Anatomy of Monsters as “midnight poetry,” which is actually a pretty awesome way to describe a movie. Instead of saying, “Oh, hey, yeah, my movie’s about a bloodthirsty killer,” Miller takes it a step further by saying his endeavor captures “the feeling of late night hours and sinister urges.” With the help of screenwriter Paul Morgan, the filmmaker set out to bring his midnight poetry to life. Color me seriously intrigued.

The official synopsis for the flick unfolds as follows:

Andrew seems ordinary as he prepares for an evening out. He carefully shaves, styles his hair and selects the perfect outfit. As the hour grows late, he decides to make the final preparations by examining his tools for the night: duct tape, rubber gloves, and a large hunting knife. Andrew plans to haunt a bar in order to ensnare an unsuspecting woman but finds that this is more difficult then it appears. He is starting to lose hope of finding someone, when someone finds him…

Sarah notices Andrew as she is sitting alone in the back of the bar. She strikes up a conversation with him. Last call arrives, and Sarah suggests that they get a motel room. At the motel, Sarah is flirtatious, but Andrew quickly dismisses her advances and instead begins to give in to his dark impulses. He produces the large hunting knife and forces Sarah to cower in fear. She begs him to let her go, but he rebuffs her at every turn. Finally he moves in for the kill.

Andrew wavers. Sarah catches this hesitation and sees an opportunity. She begins to talk to him, in a confident voice about murder… and how to get away with it. She can help him to be a better killer if he will only listen…

What follows is a deadly game of wits and a soul-baring confession.

The Anatomy of Monsters, which stars Tabitha Bastien (Run, Hide, Die), Jesse Lee Keeter (“Grimm”), and Conner Marx (If There’s a Hell Bellow, “Z Nation”), is available via Distrify Media for an amazingly low price. Interested? Point your browsers to this location to score your very own digital copy. The trailer, as you may already have guessed, resides below.

Something in the Woods Explores a Real-Life Tale of Bigfoot Terror

Bigfoot is having a pretty good run through the indie horror scene these days, but few offerings tackle the legendary creature from a realistic perspective. Writer/director David Ford’s Something in the Woods takes a family-friendly approach to the hairy beast, which is honestly something you don’t get from horror flicks too often. Inspired by true events, Woods takes a look at the Hartman family and terrifying experiences with an unruly Sasquatch during the 1960s.

Ahead of the film’s release in stores and on VOD early next year, Ford and company are selling Something in the Woods on DVD via the flick’s official website right now. Interested parties should definitely take a few minutes to check out the trailer embedded below.

Katherine Waterston to Beat Off an Alien: Covenant

Some quick possible casting news has arrived for Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant. Deadline is reporting that Katherine Waterston, who co-starred in Paul Thomas Anderson’s Inherent Vice, is set to star in the Scott-directed sequel to Prometheus. In what will be the biggest role of her career to date, Waterston has been cast as the lead, Daniels.

Specific plot details for the new film are being closely guarded, but it is believed to follow the crew of the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet, who discover what they believe is an uncharted paradise but is, in fact, a dark, dangerous world, the only inhabitant of which is David (Michael Fassbender), the “synthetic” and survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

Alien: Covenant is believed to be the first in a conceived trilogy of new films that will link the events of Prometheus with the original 1979 Ridley Scott-directed classic Alien.

Michael Manasseri’s Mosquito Man Finally Ready to Suck Your Blood

Director Michael Manasseri’s Mosquito Man is finally ready to bask in the glory of a home video release. I first heard about the movie back in 2011 when it was called Sucker, but sadly, the film vanished from my radar. Thankfully, several years and a name change later, Mosquito Man will buzz across DVD early next year. Better late than never, am I right?

If you’re just now hearing about this one, then you’ll need this synopsis:

Jim Crawley (Manasseri) is having a really bad day. He gets fired from his job, his car is towed and impounded, and he discovers his wife is having an affair with his arch enemy. To make matters worse, Jim gets abducted by an evil scientist (Ricky Wayne) who is conducting illegal human testing on a vaccine against a deadly mosquito-borne virus spreading across the planet. It turns out that years of exposure to nuclear radiation and mosquito DNA don’t mix well… Jim transforms into a half man/half mosquito hellbent on revenge….

Mosquito Man, not to be confused with Tibor Takács’ 2005 sci-fi flick Mansquito, finally hits DVD on January 12, 2016. I can’t wait to finally check it out. Have a look at the trailer below.

Perfect Fan-Made Trailer Mashes Together Krampus and Christmas Vacation

I would hope that by now there is nobody reading this who hasn’t yet seen Michael Dougherty’s Krampus (review), as it’s one of the best damn horror movies of the year. With Christmas right around the corner, we’ve got a festive little bit of fun for fans of the Trick ‘r Treat director’s latest.

As you surely noticed, the first act of Krampus feels very similar to National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, right down to the ill-mannered uncle who can’t ever seem to say the right thing. It was only a matter of time before someone mashed the two together, and a clever fan has done just that.

Courtesy of YouTube’s DirkRaptor comes National Lampoon’s Krampus Vacation, a faux trailer that perfectly blends together video and audio clips from both films. The result is a 3+-minute parody video that shows just how much the two have in common, and we think you’re going to love it.

So pour some eggnog into your moose mug and enjoy!

Of course it doesn’t really show much, but this new promo for “Twin Peaks” is just about the best early Christmas present we could have asked for! Check it out, and let us know what you think.

The critically acclaimed, groundbreaking television phenomenon “Twin Peaks” returns as a limited series to Showtime in 2017. Currently in production, “Twin Peaks” is written and produced by series creators and executive producers David Lynch and Mark Frost and is directed entirely by Lynch. While the full mystery awaits, fans can expect many familiar faces, including Golden Globe winner and Emmy Award nominee Kyle MacLachlan, who reprises his role as FBI Agent Dale Cooper.

Widely considered one of the most influential broadcast series of all time, “Twin Peaks” followed the inhabitants of a quaint Northwestern town who were stunned after their homecoming queen Laura Palmer was shockingly murdered. The town’s sheriff welcomed the help of FBI agent Dale Cooper, who came to town to investigate the case. As Cooper conducted his search for Laura’s killer, the town’s secrets were gradually exposed. The mystery that ensued set off an eerie chain of events that plunged the inhabitants of Twin Peaks into a darker examination of their very existence. Twenty-five years later, the story continues…

Meet a Devilish Duo in This New Lucifer Teaser

Fox’s “Lucifer,” starring Tom Ellis (“Merlin”), premieres Monday, January 25th, and to help get you ready for it, a new teaser video has arrived featuring Ellis and co-star Lauren German discussing the fun and mystery behind their characters’ relationship.

Check it out below along with a “first look” at the series, and let us know if this is a show you’re looking forward to or one that’s barely on your radar.

About “Lucifer”:
The Devil has come to Los Angeles…

Based upon the characters created by Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth, and Mike Dringenberg for DC Entertainment’s Vertigo imprint, “Lucifer” is the story of the original fallen angel. Bored and unhappy as the Lord of Hell, LUCIFER MORNINGSTAR (Tom Ellis, “Merlin”) has abandoned his throne and retired to L.A., where he owns Lux, an upscale nightclub. Charming, charismatic, and devilishly handsome, Lucifer is enjoying his retirement, indulging in a few of his favorite things – wine, women, and song – when a beautiful pop star is brutally murdered outside of Lux.

For the first time in roughly 10 billion years, he feels something awaken deep within him as a result of this murder. Compassion? Sympathy? The very thought disturbs him – as well as his best friend and confidante, MAZIKEEN aka MAZE (Lesley-Ann Brandt, “The Librarians”), a fierce demon in the form of a beautiful young woman. The murder attracts the attention of LAPD homicide detective CHLOE DANCER (Lauren German, “Chicago Fire”), who initially is dismissive of Lucifer. But she becomes intrigued by his talent for drawing out people’s secrets and his desire to dispense justice, doling out punishment to those who deserve it.

As they work together to solve the pop star’s murder, Lucifer is struck by Chloe’s inherent goodness. Accustomed to dealing with the absolute worst of humanity, Lucifer is intrigued by Chloe’s apparent purity and begins to wonder if there’s hope for his own soul yet. At the same time, God’s emissary, the angel AMENADIEL (DB Woodside; “Suits,” “24”), has been sent to Los Angeles to convince Lucifer to return to the underworld.  Can the Devil incarnate be tempted toward the side of Good, or will his original calling pull him back toward Evil?

Rest in Peace: Geza Decsy

$

It’s true that this year I’ve had to write a memoriam or two for those we’ve lost within our genre, although none has been more difficult to compose than this missive concerning the loss of one of my best friends: screenwriter, producer, and pilot Geza Decsy.

My relationship with Geza stretched across eighteen years – professionally, philanthropically and personally. Professionally, we had not only labored dutifully (along with my often co-screenwriter Jack Ulrich) together to get our “survival horror” feature Alluvial (which Geza had optioned and was attached to direct) off the ground, but also to support each other’s individual careers within the Hollywood industry.

Geza’s own would eventually lead him to the production entity Home Media Bridge on the lower lot of Universal Studios, where he’d not only produce several genre features (Paul Hough’s The Human Race, the Booth Brothers’ Dead Still, Gnome Alone, and Nocturna, to name a few) while moving many others into development, but also (and finally) receive a coveted parking placard outside the HMB bungalow (which was clearly visible to anyone riding the park’s tram, which he got a kick out of). He had worked relentlessly hard to get there, and it was something he didn’t take for granted. Wandering New York Street on the back lot with him following our lunches at the commissary, he’d often say while looking at the building facades that stretched above us, “I’ll never get sick of this. It’s just magical.”

Philanthropically, Geza worked also tirelessly to support local L.A. women struggling with breast cancer via his charitable work with Dread Central’s fundraising team The Horror Starlets (whose members have included actresses Cerina Vincent, Ashlynn Yennie, Carlee Baker, Sarah Butler, Kristina Klebe, and more), serving as the team’s official photographer and cheerleader from its very inception. Frankly, without his skills, the organization’s impact may have not been what it was. He did this tirelessly as well, with an infectious smile and a laugh that made those around him simply beam.

Personally… I’m afraid it’s either impossible to effectively encapsulate, or perhaps I’m just too near this tragedy. What I can say is that Geza was a momentous, kind, selfless, and driven man. The kind of guy that would pick up the bar tab when you told him not to (this would become a running joke because he’d always pick it up) and the kind of man that was always there to offer support, whether to lend an ear through difficult times or to offer sage advice or assistance on any number of projects, shared or otherwise.

And while we certainly bonded over our respective love of cinema and story (as these were the things most important to him), we also did so over our mutual interest in aviation. Geza’s, more pronounced than my own, would see him earn a pilot’s license in 2008, and shortly after I would fly with him out of Van Nuys Airport in a small Cessna. Circling downtown LA with him at night and flying over the Santa Monica Pier as the Pacific stretched out below, his happiness in the cockpit recalled that of my late grandfather’s, with whom I’d similarly spent hours in light aircraft during my youth. Geza’s joy was palpable, and he was a damned good pilot.

On Sunday, December 6, 2015, less than thirteen hours since we last traded in conversation which focused on future plans at my birthday party in Hollywood, Geza lost his life in a tragic aviation accident in Apple Valley, CA, when the L-39 aerobatic jet in which he was a passenger crashed on takeoff, killing him and pilot/Red Bull Air Race champion Mike Mangold.

Compounding this sense of loss, Geza had been set to wed his loving fiancée of nine years, Jessica Vilar, on February 20th of 2016 at the The Palm Springs Air Museum (in fact, a portion of their wedding invitations were mailed out less than forty-eight hours before his death).

The hole in my heart I cannot quite articulate, though its depth I suppose has direct correlation with just how deeply Geza touched those around him. His compassion and selflessness, coupled with his sharp wit and that hearty laugh, made you simply just want to be around him, and for those of us lucky enough to have called him our friend, our loss is quite simply profound.

I guess we’ll never have that hundred dollar burger, Geza.

For more you can click over to the Geza Decsy Memorial Page, and if you’re so inclined, a fund has been set up for his widowed fiancee to help take care of expenses that no one was prepared for.

God bless.

What happens when several women find themselves isolated and alone battling the elements to survive? Well, in the porn world we’d probably get a sweet tale of female eroticism, but in Ladyworld we’re getting something more along the lines of Lord of the Flies

Fangoria caught up with Anguish actor Ryan Simpkins (pictured), who spilled the beans on her next project!

I’m signed on to do a project called Ladyworld,” Simpkins tells the site. “It’s about these girls who get trapped in a house back in the hills after a major earthquake, and it’s like a female Lord of the Flies. You see them all lose their innocence, and then slowly lose their sanity, so that should be really cool. It’s by Amanda Kramer, and it’s her first time directing a film; she’s done some theater stuff before. Kiernan Shipka (from “Mad Men” and the upcoming horror film February) is signed on, Amandla Stenberg (of The Hunger Games and TV’s “Sleepy Hollow”) is signed on, Annalise Basso (the young Kaylie in Oculus), Fatima Ptacek—we’ve got the whole cast set.

Back in October of this year, Gravitas Ventures released The Inhabitants (review) digitally on VOD outlets, and now the film is headed to DVD and Blu-ray early next month. FilmRise just picked it up for distribution, and we’ve got all the release details for you today. Read on!

From the Press Release:
FilmRise has acquired North American home media rights to The Inhabitants, the new supernatural thriller from the writers of John Carpenter’s The Ward. The Brooklyn-based film and TV distributor will release the film January 5, 2016, on DVD and Blu-ray. The discs will include an exclusive behind-the-scenes featurette as well as the film’s trailer.

The Inhabitants was shot inside one of the oldest haunted houses in New England, which at one time was home to the Salem Witch Trial children. The Noyes-Parris House (c. 1669) was owned by the infamous Rev. Samuel Parris, who was the father of Betty Parris and uncle to Abigail Williams, the two girls who made the initial accusations that led to the tragic witch trials that took place in Salem, Massachusetts.

Written and directed by Michael and Shawn Rasmussen, the screenwriting team behind John Carpenter’s The Ward, and produced by international bestselling author Glenn Cooper (Library of the Dead trilogy), The Inhabitants revolves around a young couple that get more than they bargained for when they renovate a neglected bed and breakfast in New England. After a series of disturbing events, the husband begins to suspect that something evil is lurking within the walls of this old house, and whatever it is has set its sights on his wife. Now he must fight to uncover the inn’s dark secret before this malicious spirit consumes everything he loves.
