On tap right now we have a new poster and trailer for I Am Not a Serial Killer (review). Read on for the spooky skinny!

From the Press Release:
IFC Midnight announced today that the company has acquired North American and Latin American rights to Billy O’Brien’s I AM NOT A SERIAL KILLER. The film, with a screenplay by O’Brien and Christopher Hyde based on the novel by Dan Wells, stars Max Records, Christopher Lloyd, Laura Fraser, and Karl Geary. The film was produced by Nick Ryan, James Harris, and Mark Lane and was executive produced by Wayne Marc Godfrey, Robert Jones, James Atherton, Jan Pace, John McDonnell, Rory Gilmartin, Billy O’Brien, Avril Daly, Ruairi Robinson, Robbie Ryan, Bertrand Faivre, Ruth Kenley-Letts, and Afolabi Kuti. The film made its world premiere at the 2016 SXSW Film Festival.

I AM NOT A SERIAL KILLER takes place in a small Midwestern town where a troubled teen with homicidal tendencies must hunt down and destroy a supernatural killer whilst keeping his own inner demons at bay.

Notes IFC Midnight: “Billy O’Brien has done a stunning job of bringing Dan Wells’ book to the screen with an endlessly engaging film suffused with wry humor, finely wrought performances, and a moody, haunting atmosphere.”

For many years… all I’ve wanted was to see a director’s cut of Exorcist III… one that hopefully had that cool head-morph scene from the trailer that we never got. While I’m uncertain if we’ll get that I am 100% certain Scream Factory is trying!

We’ll find out soon as Scream Factory just announced via Facebook that they’ll be bringing the film to Blu-ray in grand fashion!

Via the site:
You’ve heard the rumors for months…and they’re all true! William Peter Blatty’s cult favorite THE EXORCIST III will be bearing its cross on a 2-disc Collector’s Edition Blu-ray set from us on October 25th.

Extras (of which there are tons of) are underway and will be announced at a date in Late Summer / Early Fall. The newly-designed front-facing artwork from Joel Robinson you see here is final (not pictured is the reverse wrap image which will showcase the original theatrical poster art.) Early pre-order now directly from us and receive a free 18″ x 24″ poster of the new art (while supplies last) plus early shipping!

We know that the biggest question you might have is: Will there be a “Director’s Cut” of the film? The answer is yes—but with some caveats. We are working on putting together a version that will be close to Blatty’s original script using a mixture of various film and video tape sources that we have been provided with. This is still a work in progress and we will update you with more details at the time we announce the full list of bonus materials.

Like it or not, the new “The Exorcist” series is heading our way on September 23rd, and while we expect to have more intel on the show for you from the upcoming San Diego Comic-Con, in the meantime here are a trio of teasers to help prepare you for the horrors coming this fall.

“The Exorcist” (airing Fridays, 9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT, on Fox) returns as a contemporary psychological TV thriller following two very different priests tackling one family’s case of terrifying demonic possession. Directed by Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes), the series stars Academy Award and Golden Globe winner Geena Davis (“Commander in Chief,” Thelma & Louise), Alfonso Herrera (“Sense8,” The Chosen), and Ben Daniels (“Flesh and Bone,” “House of Cards”).

About “The Exorcist”:
“THE EXORCIST” is a propulsive psychological thriller following two very different priests tackling one family’s case of horrifying demonic possession. FATHER TOMAS ORTEGA (Alfonso Herrera) is the new face of the Catholic Church: progressive, ambitious, and compassionate. He runs a small but loyal parish in the suburbs of Chicago. He has no idea that his quiet life is about to change forever.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the world, another priest finds himself locked in a life-and-death struggle with evil. FATHER MARCUS BRENNAN (Ben Daniels) is a modern-day Templar Knight, an orphan raised since childhood by the Vatican to wage war against its enemies. Father Marcus is everything Father Tomas is not: relentless, abrasive, and utterly consumed by his sacred mission.

Caught in the middle is the RANCE family, members of Tomas’ parish. On the surface they’re a normal, suburban family, but all is not as it seems in this household. The patriarch, HENRY RANCE (guest star Alan Ruck), is slowly but surely losing his mind. Eldest daughter KATHERINE (Brianne Howey) has become a recluse who refuses to leave her room. Her younger sister, CASEY (Hannah Kasulka), thinks she’s hearing strange noises coming from inside the walls. And mother ANGELA (Academy Award and Golden Globe winner Geena Davis) has been plagued by recurring nightmares, each more frightening than the last. Angela believes there is something in the house, a demonic presence, growing stronger by the day. Desperate, she begs Father Tomas for help, unwittingly setting the naïve young priest on a collision course with Father Marcus. Separately, each faces an insurmountable task, but together they become the only hope against an evil force that has been mobilizing for centuries.

Ahead of its premiere at the University of Chicago tomorrow, July 8, a new poster has debuted for Tabloid Vivant, a horror film that explores the darker side of the art world. Have a peek at the new artwork here along with the trailer.

From the Press Release:
Ahead of its premiere this Friday at Doc Films Chicago, Tabloid Vivant has released a stunning new poster.  The film will screen at 7PM and 10PM on July 8, 2016, at the University of Chicago; and the earlier screening will be followed by a Q&A with writer-director Kyle Broom and producer Alexandra Spector.

Broom’s first feature is as much philosophical art film as it is pure horror. Both screenings and the filmmaker Q&A will be free and open to the public. Get more info here.

Jesse Woodrow (TV’s “Charmed”) and Tamzin Brown (The Adderall Diaries) are spellbinding in the award-winning (Best Feature Film – Audience Selection. Cinema at the Edge Independent Film Festival) festival fave.

Look for a wide release of Tabloid Vivant later this year.

Synopsis:
Max is an artist seduced by the allure of fame. Sara is an art critic whose obsessions exceed even his. When she lands a writing gig at a major art magazine, the pair retreat to a cabin in the woods, where Max reveals his strange new painting method. Convinced of its potential, she agrees to collaborate on a piece sure to revolutionize the art world.

While both original and mesmerizing, the project reveals something dark and disturbing about their relationship. Like two digital-age Frankensteins, they manage to make a painting come alive – though the unsettling consequences of their success may be more fit for the pages of a blood-soaked tabloid than the chronicles of art history.

Synopsis:
The world of Innistrad has been descending into madness for some time now; from cultists to cathars, no mind is safe. Even angels have fallen prey. [The angel] Avacyn herself went mad, transforming from protector to monster and wreaking unimaginable devastation upon even the most faithful in her church. Then she was destroyed. With its angelic protector gone, Innistrad was exposed to overwhelming forces of darkness and evil.

Now, the few on the plane who have not yet lost their minds are left to wonder if this is the end. As the world tilts off balance, beginning its final descent, the people pray for anything or anyone powerful enough, good enough, to stand in Avacyn’s place, to protect them from the maddening darkness.

Snapchat, known for popularizing the often creepy “Face Swap,” has partnered with Sony for a Ghostbusters-themed filter that we’re having a lot of fun with right about now. It allows you to either become a Ghostbuster or get slimed by Slimer, and it’s the first ever filter that utilizes both the front- and rear-facing cameras on your phone.

From the Press Release:
For the first time ever, Snapchatters can use both the front and rear cameras of their phones with a new type of lens as millions of users become true Ghostbusters on the popular digital platform. Using the front camera on your smartphone, you can “Bust” ghosts. By switching to the rear camera, users can “Slime” unsuspecting friends or themselves.

Sony Pictures is the first brand partner to use this new kind of lens on Snapchat, taking full advantage of the fact that smartphones come equipped today with front- and rear-facing cameras. Sponsored lenses allow brands to take part in the communication between Snapchatters in the most interactive and personal way. Lenses are a creative, dynamic, and fun extension for Snapchatters to make the most out of their selfies. They offer users the opportunity to add a selection of real-time visual effects and sounds to their photos.

With the Ghostbusters lenses, the iconic music from the movie will play in the background as Snapchatters can choose between wearing a proton pack and becoming a genuine Ghostbuster or getting doused with green slime by a playful apparition.

“Whether its dog ears or flower crowns, face swapping or alien eyes, Snapchat’s popular portfolio of lenses are highly engaging pieces of content that fans truly love,” said Elias Plishner, Executive Vice President of Digital Marketing for Sony Pictures. “We are very excited to be the first ever partner to introduce this new type of lens to the market. These lenses are fun and creative extensions of Ghostbusters, and we think Snapchatters will have a great time using them.”

Try it out, let us know what you think, and send us your slime-covered selfies!

Michael Myers Slashes Again in Halloween Horror Nights 2016 Mazes

$

When I attended Halloween Horror Nights back in 2014, the coolest attraction was hands down the Halloween-themed Michael Myers haunt. This year, at both the Orlando and Hollywood locations, that attraction is getting a direct sequel in the form of Halloween: Hell Comes to Haddonfield, and we’ve got the scoop today.

Other confirmed 2016 haunts include The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and The Exorcist.

From the Press Release:
Fans may have thought it was over, but he’s still out there. This fall, Michael Myers will make his return to Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood’s Halloween Horror Nights in an all-new maze inspired by the second film in the classic horror series “Halloween.”

The iconic horror film sequel continues the story of masked killer Michael Myers as he stalks an entire town and relentlessly pursues his victims. Now, his focus turns to guests as Universal joins forces with Compass International Pictures to bring the haunting film’s most suspenseful and terrifying moments to life at Halloween Horror Nights.

At both Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood, Michael Myers returns in Halloween: Hell Comes to Haddonfield – a maze that’s bigger and filled with more menacing scare-actors than the original, top-rated “Halloween” maze. It will begin with the final scene from “Halloween,” where Michael Myers is presumed dead after falling from a bedroom window – only to disappear from the ground. Guests will dodge Myers’ lethal knife at every turn as they step into iconic scenes from the film – all culminating in a horrifying finale.

Universal Studios’ Halloween Horror Nights is the ultimate Halloween event. For more than 20 years, guests from around the world have visited Halloween Horror Nights in Orlando and Hollywood to become victims inside their own horror film. The streets of each coast’s event are transformed into highly-themed scare zones where menacing “scare-actors” lunge from every darkened corner. Multiple movie-quality haunted houses are erected throughout the event, based on anything from iconic slasher films to hit horror television series to haunting original stories.

Additional details about Halloween Horror Nights will be revealed soon. To purchase tickets and find out more about Universal Orlando’s Halloween Horror Nights 26, visit HalloweenHorrorNights.com/Orlando. For information about Universal Studios Hollywood’s Halloween Horror Nights, visit HalloweenHorrorNights.com/Hollywood.

The more we hear about Syfy’s upcoming “Blood Drive” series, the more intrigued we become.  While we wait to see some actual footage from the show, today brings us a bit of casting news that should be a treat for fans of “Falling Skies” and its villain, Pope… read on!

From the Press Release:
Colin Cunningham has been cast as a series regular in Syfy’s “BLOOD DRIVE,” the upcoming drama set in a near-apocalyptic future. Cunningham will play Slink, the nastiest creature you’ll ever dread to meet, created from an ether of pure corruption and sin. Ever the showman, Slink soaks up the spotlight as the mastermind of Blood Drive, an underground death race in which the cars run on human blood.

Cunningham is best known for his portrayal of John Pope alongside Noah Wyle in “Falling Skies.” His film credits include The Sixth Day and Elektra, and in 2009 he directed the award-winning short film Centigrade. Cunningham is repped by D2 Management and Characters Agency.

Pegged to start production in August, “BLOOD DRIVE” is a 13-episode series that centers on Arthur (Alan Ritchson), the last good cop in Los Angeles, and Grace (Christina Ochoa), a dangerous femme fatale partner who has an agenda of her own.

“BLOOD DRIVE” is from Universal Cable Productions (UCP) and executive producers John Hlavin (Underworld: Awakening, “The Shield”), Fredrik Malmberg (Conan the Barbarian), and David Straiton (“Bates Motel,” “Hemlock Grove”), who will also direct. James Roland, who created the series and penned the pilot under Hlavin’s supervision, will serve as supervising producer; and Mark Wheeler will serve as producer.

Four The Walking Dead Cast Members Upped to Series Regulars

With production now under way on Season 7 of “The Walking Dead,” a few cast members we’ve gotten acquainted with in past seasons have been upped to series regulars.  Whether or not that means they’ll live to see Season 8 remains to be seen of course, but here’s what we know so far…

Per THR, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Tom Payne, Austin Amelio, and Xander Berkeley have all been promoted.  According to the site, “The quartet boarded the drama based on Robert Kirkman’s comic series in Season 6 as recurring, with Morgan making his debut as famed villain Negan in the finale. All four play key characters from the comic books. Payne is hero Jesus, currently supporting Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and his band of survivors. Amelio is Dwight, a badly burned member of Negan’s dastardly Saviors who has a particular bone to pick with Daryl (Norman Reedus). And Berkeley is Gregory, the shady leader of the Hilltop Colony who is poised to clash with Maggie (Lauren Cohan) — provided the pregnant Alexandria Safe Zone resident survives the finale.”

twd-S7castupdates

L-R: Austin Amelio, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Xander Berkeley, Tom Payne

These additions bring “TWD’s” roster to 20 series regulars — up two from Season 6 — and an all-time high for the drama overseen by showrunner Scott M. Gimple. Here’s the full list:  Lincoln, Reedus, Steven Yeun (Glenn), Cohan, Chandler Riggs (Carl), Danai Gurira (Michonne), Melissa McBride (Carol), Michael Cudlitz (Abraham), Lennie James (Morgan), Sonequa Martin-Green (Sasha), Alanna Masterson (Tara), Christian Serratos (Rosita), Josh McDermitt (Eugene), Seth Gilliam (Father Gabriel), Ross Marquand (Aaron), Austin Nichols (Spencer), Morgan, Payne, Amelio, and Berkeley.

As a reminder, AMC’s “The Walking Dead” is, per usual, heading to the San Diego Comic-Con, where we’ll no doubt learn more and be gifted with a trailer for the upcoming season. Here’s the info on the show’s SDCC panel and other events:

“THE WALKING DEAD”
· Panel from 1:00-2:00pm PT on Friday, July 22 in Hall H
· Autograph session from 2:30-3:30pm PT on Friday, July 22 at AMC’s booth #4237

“The Walking Dead” panelists include cast members Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun, Lauren Cohan, Danai Gurira, Chandler Riggs, Michael Cudlitz, Sonequa Martin-Green, Christian Serratos, Ross Marquand, Josh McDermitt, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan along with executive producer/showrunner Scott M. Gimple, executive producer Robert Kirkman, executive producer Gale Anne Hurd, executive producer/director/Special Effects Make-up Supervisor Greg Nicotero, and executive producer David Alpert. The panel will be moderated by “Talking Dead” host Chris Hardwick.

Moonlight Serenades (Book)

moonlight-serenades-coverWritten by Thom Carnell

Published by Crossroad Press; Macabre Ink

Available from Amazon

Once in a while a horror writer comes around who makes you sigh a deep breath of fresh air at his or her witty charm and original ideas, and Thom Carnell is one of them.

In this collection of short stories of the otherworldly, we get seventeen supernatural tales designed to chill and entertain. From returning heroes (three stories feature Cleese, the iconic hero of No Flesh Shall Be Spared), mountain ghosts, zombies, and vampires on the hunt to a world where social stature is determined by what kind of clown you are, there’s a little bit of everything here.

Moonlight Serenades is such a beautiful and well written book of short stories, some of them poetic as Edgar Allan Poe or even Walt Whitman.

From the first story, “Wedding Day,” I was ultimately enthralled and looked forward to the next one as I moved on. I enjoyed every story as much as the first and especially loved how Thom gave a bit of insight into the reasons why he wrote each one and even what influenced him to write it.

Thom makes you actually feel what he must have been feeling while writing these stories.  The amount of pain or happiness that he puts in to every word, or whatever the emotion, isn’t spared at all.  You can actually imagine in your own mind the beauty of each of these stories in depth to your soul.   Each story takes you to a different place for an entertaining and wild ride for your imagination to indulge.

This book is a must-have, and not just to read once, but to read over and over again.   I highly recommend it to everyone, and not just to the horror community.  It’s perfect for anyone looking for something different that will take you places in your mind you’ve never been before.

Kiefer Sutherland Commits to Appear in Flatliners Redux

Personally, I wasn’t a huge fan of Flatliners, but now that the inevitable remake is heading our way, maybe it’ll look better by comparison. Either way, one thing the latter film has going for it is today’s announcement that Kiefer Sutherland, one of the stars of the original, will be making an appearance!

Per Deadline, Sutherland’s deal is not completely closed, but he has committed to portraying a “seasoned doctor” in the new version, which stars Ellen Page, Diego Luna, Nina Dobrev, James Norton, and Kiersey Clemens.

Flatliners is being directed by Niels Arden Oplev (Sweden’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, TV’s Mr. Robot) from a script by Ben Ripley (Source Code). The movie is being produced by Laurence Mark and Michael Douglas (who also produced the original movie).

The original thriller, which co-starred Julia Roberts, Kevin Bacon, Billy Baldwin, and Oliver Platt, followed five medical students who decide to trigger near-death experiences by purposely stopping their hearts. However, as they delve into their work, the experiments become more and more dangerous and scary as they are forced to confront the sins of their pasts as well as contend with the paranormal consequences of crossing a line to the other side.

We’ll find out soon enough how closely the reboot follows that one as the film goes into production in Toronto later this week.

Corey Feldman Not a Fan of Ghostbusters Direction; Doesn’t Want to See a Lost Girls Flick

Corey Feldman recently sat down with MovieWeb and discussed the possibility of a fourth film in The Lost Boys franchise and why he doesn’t want to see it rebooted with an all-girl cast.

After what happened with Ghostbusters, I would veer to stay away from that idea,” says Feldman of the negative reaction to the film and its trailers. “I’m not a hater. I encourage all artistic endeavors. And I support anything as long it’s good. I just hate seeing crap, and I hate seeing schlock. And I hate seeing when they take a very valuable and positive franchise and destroy it with something that sounds like a really good idea but is not.

Feldman continues, “So, to me… I’m a firm believer in giving the fans what we know they want. And give it to them the way they want it. It’s always nice to throw some surprises in there. But I am also not a believer in the reboot. I do not think it is a good idea. I don’t like it. I think when fans want a sequel to their favorite films, they want to see their favorite characters and their favorite actors playing those characters and they want to know where those characters are ten years later or a few years later. And that is the fun of a sequel.

“That is in my personal opinion as a filmgoer and a movie maker. That doesn’t mean I’m right. Everyone has the right to their opinion. I have to make sure my intentions are pure.”

Amen.

As for another Lost Boys, “Do we have something on the table at the moment? No. But there might be some ideas kicking around. Lets just say, at this point, they are at the idea stage.

Director Paul Feig Responds to Hateful Response to Ghostbusters Trailer

$

Back in May we reported that the Ghostbusters reboot had set a record for being the most disliked YouTube trailer ever (it’s currently at 914,472 dislikes, up over 300k since we first made mention of it). Now, just days away from the film’s release, director Paul Feig has responded to the reaction.

It was a bummer,” Feig tells IGN, “but if you want to look glass half-full, we’re also the most liked if you look at the number of likes compared to other trailers, so okay, we’ll take that one little victory. But I get it. Here’s the thing. Being on camera, it’s nice I can say this because I do these print interviews, and they always pull one part of my quote out. I’ve said from day one – I get that there is a bunch of people who just are trepidatious, nervous, mad that we’re doing a reboot. Or touching this at all. And I completely get that – those people, I get that, I hear you, I would be nervous too if I didn’t know what I was doing with it. And then there was the wave who just hated that it was women. And that to me is the non-starter. But that was a part of the group – it wasn’t everybody. Everybody on the internet is painting it like I have been sayin,g ‘If you don’t like it, you’re against women.’ I’ve never said that, ever. They take the quotes, and they pull one part of the quote.
