Lyndsy Fonseca and More Haunted by Syfy

0
0

And here you thought our own Foywonder was the only one haunted by the network! Deadline is reporting that former “Nikita” star Lyndsy Fonseca and up-and-comer Elizabeth Cappuccino (“Jessica Jones”) have been cast as two of the leads of Syfy’s supernatural horror drama pilot “The Haunted.”

Written by Noga Landau (“Tau,” “The Magicians”), “The Haunted” centers on four siblings – Juno (pictured; Fonseca), Virgil, Eliis, and Hester (Cappuccino) — who reunite following their parents’ deaths. As they try to overcome their fractured personal relationships, they find that they must also face the literal ghosts from their past in order to survive.

Fonseca’s Juno Bradley is a woman of science who is forced to come to terms with a new perspective on the world after she realizes she can no longer rely on facts alone. Cappuccino’s Hester Bradley, Juno’s sister, is searching for a purpose and determined not to miss out on the fun.

James Frey and Todd Cohen of Full Fathom Five executive produce, and Landau co-executive produces for Universal Cable Productions.

Who Goes There Podcast: Episode 95 SiREN

Did anyone see that Adam Wingard told us to “suck it” on Twitter? That’s amazing. It’s also interesting that his tweets are as well thought out as his movies. Speaking of Adam Wingard; remember when he had a short in VHS 2? Remember how there was a VHS 1 and it had that short with the girl who likes things and flies and shit? Yeah, they turned that ten minute short into a movie; they named it SiREN. You know who saw that movie? Us! You know who has thoughts and opinions on the movie? Us! You know who saw Blair Witch for free and still thinks Adam Wingard owes us each twelve bucks? Us!

Now I have another reason to hate Christmas; it’s the Who Goes There Podcast Episode 95!

Bloodfall Marks the End of Doom’s Downloadable Content

It seems like we’re at something of the end of an era, as Doom has now received its final DLC pack. It’s not all bad, though, because ending with the new ability to turn into the Spectre Pinky demon sure sounds like a great way to end to me.

The Bloodfall DLC is available now.

DOOM – Bloodfall Now Available:
Bloodfall, DOOM’s latest multiplayer DLC, is available now. Bloodfall is the third and final DLC pack for DOOM, bringing three diverse new maps, a Grenade Launcher, the Cultist armor set, and more to the game’s fast-paced multiplayer. You’ll also be able to transform into the Spectre Pinky, a fan-favorite demon whose signature invisibility tactic allows you to sneak up on enemy players.

To celebrate the launch of Bloodfall, we’re also holding a Double XP Weekend from now until Monday, December 19, at 12pm ET. Play all new multiplayer content and try to level up to the new max rank of Echelon 11, level 50, to unlock the DOOM Marine Armor, which was part of last week’s Free Update 5 release.

Bloodfall is available now for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC and can be purchased for $14.99 (£11.99 / €14.99 / AUS $23.95) or as part of the DOOM Season Pass.

To get even more information on DOOM, check out featured content on Bethesda.net, and follow the game on its official social media channels.

School Girl Zombie Hunter Gets One Hell of a NSFW Extended Trailer

0
0

Although the Onechanbara series has never been big in the West, the latest trailer for the PS4 exclusive spinoff School Girl Zombie Hunter includes English subtitles and also comes with an English description on YouTube, which suggests that a Western release is incoming.

The trailer’s also high up there in the NSFW category and has all the gore and nudity that the series has become infamous for. It clocks in at just over five minutes so there’s plenty of time for both. Apparently the zombies (or should I call them zom-zoms?) have the ability to rip off girls’ clothes, so if you needed even more of an incentive to kill zombies, there it is.

Synopsis:
Set in a school that has suddenly been overrun by zombies and cut off from the outside world, five schoolgirls fight for their lives in this action shooter which takes place in a similar setting to the popular Onechanbara series.

The schoolyard, gymnasium, and other areas within the isolated school grounds will become fierce battlefields as you evade and fight against the invading zombie hordes. Progress through missions using a variety of firearms from handguns to assault rifles, and fight to the bitter end!

Also features a clothes ripping system where zombie attacks will destroy the characters’ clothing!

Kate Beckinsale stars in Screen Gems’ UNDERWORLD: BLOOD WARS.

Alongside series star Kate Beckinsale, Theo James (the Divergent series) returns as Selene’s ally David, reprising the role he played in Underworld: Awakening. British actors Tobias Menzies (“Outlander,” “Rome”) and Lara Pulver (“Sherlock”) take on the respective roles of a formidable new Lycan leader and a fiercely ambitious Vampire, and Charles Dance (“Game of Thrones”) again plays Vampire elder Thomas.

Rounding out the film’s cast are James Faulkner (“Game of Thrones”), Peter Andersson (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), newcomer Clementine Nicholson, Bradley James (A&E’s “Damien”), and Daisy Head (Fallen).

Anna Foerster directs. The screenplay for Underworld: Blood Wars was penned by Cory Goodman (The Last Witch Hunter, Priest) and based on characters originally created by Kevin Grevioux, Len Wiseman, and Danny McBride.

Lakeshore Entertainment’s Tom Rosenberg (The Lincoln Lawyer, Million Dollar Baby), Gary Lucchesi (Million Dollar Baby, Underworld), and Richard S. Wright (The Lincoln Lawyer, Underworld) are producing, as is David Kern (Underworld: Awakening) along with Len Wiseman (Underworld, Total Recall).

Synopsis:
Vampire death dealer Selene (Beckinsale) fends off brutal attacks from both the Lycan clan and the Vampire faction that betrayed her. With her only allies, David (James) and his father, Thomas (Dance), she must stop the eternal war between Lycans and Vampires, even if it means she has to make the ultimate sacrifice.

Anne Rice Gives a Quick Update on The Vampire Chronicles TV Series and Teases Another Project with Son Christopher Rice

0
0

Last night author Anne Rice wrapped up her whirlwind tour in support of Prince Lestat and the Realms of Atlantis at Warwick’s bookstore in La Jolla, California; but first she made a stop at the San Diego Library, where local station KUSI chatted with both Anne and her son, Christopher, a gifted writer himself, who accompanied her on a few stops along the way.

Things began where they usually do with Ms. Rice: a question as to her feelings on the success and longevity of Interview with the Vampire, which just celebrated its 40th anniversary, and The Vampire Chronicles as a whole. Rice says, “It’s been an absolute adventure.” As for incorporating Atlantis into the mythos, she explains that in her latest tome, the lost kingdom is “linked” and “intimately connected with not only the origin, but the fate of the vampires.”

While at first she didn’t see herself as a “horror writer,” now she’s fine with the label.  “I really love horror fiction myself,” she says, “…[it’s] a lot more than what most people think; there’s a lot of philosophy, poetry, drama.  I think of these books as ‘metaphysical thrillers’… [but] I’m happy with any label, I really am, at this point.”

She confirmed the upcoming TV series based on The Vampire Chronicles she and Christopher are developing will start with the second book in the series, The Vampire Lestat, which is of course the Brat Prince’s origin story.  “We want to write the pilot and several of the scripts for the first season and also a detailed outline for about five seasons, five years… We’ve been very, very surprised – and we’re grateful for – the response we’ve gotten. Our agents have heard from a lot of people.  It’s been very exciting.”

She also comes close to spilling the beans on what Christopher called on his Facebook page “a #topsecretproject we’re working on but can’t talk about yet.” She teases, “There might be another project out there, but we’re not at liberty to talk about it.”  Christopher quickly jumps in with, “We’re not at liberty to discuss it yet.  We will get back to you when it’s time to give you the scoop, I promise.”  Here’s hoping it’s horror-related!

You can watch the whole interview below, and if you haven’t gotten your hands on it yet, Prince Lestat and the Realms of Atlantis (review) is out now from Knopf!

David Lynch Teases His Return as Twin Peaks’ Gordon Cole

0
0

Sure, we are all excited about David Lynch’s return behind the camera to helm Showtime’s continuation of “Twin Peaks,” but it’ll be pretty awesome to also see him in front of it when he reprises his role of FBI Regional Bureau Chief Gordon Cole.

A new teaser video of Lynch in character has arrived, but sadly, there’s still no firm premiere date yet other than “coming in 2017.” Maybe if we’re good boys and girls, Santa will let us know soon!

About “Twin Peaks”:
The critically-acclaimed television phenomenon “TWIN PEAKS” returns as a limited series to Showtime in 2017. “TWIN PEAKS” is written and produced by series creators and executive producers David Lynch and Mark Frost and is directed entirely by David Lynch.

While the full mystery awaits, fans can expect many familiar faces, including Golden Globe winner and Emmy Award nominee Kyle MacLachlan, who reprises his role as FBI Agent Dale Cooper, plus Lynch as FBI Regional Bureau Chief Gordon Cole.

Widely considered one of the most groundbreaking and influential broadcast series of all time, “TWIN PEAKS” followed the inhabitants of a quaint Northwestern town who were stunned after their homecoming queen, Laura Palmer, was shockingly murdered. The town’s sheriff welcomed the help of FBI agent Dale Cooper, who came to town to investigate the case. As Cooper conducted his search for Laura’s killer, the town’s secrets were gradually exposed. The mystery that ensued set off an eerie chain of events that plunged the inhabitants of Twin Peaks into a darker examination of their very existence. Twenty-five years later, the story continues…

It Watches (2016)

0
0

Starring Ivan Djurovic, Rick Irwin, Sanny van Heteren

Directed by Dave Parker

Ouch. Pardon me for announcing my pain out loud, but there are those certain films that have been known to induce varying levels of pain when watched. Allow me to introduce this month’s implement of torture – It Watches… and for the sake of your own personal safety, perhaps you shouldn’t. (Although we do have some more positive reviews on the site here and here from some earlier screenings and the film’s festival run under the title ColdWater.)

Directed by Dave Parker, the movie’s main character is Andre (Djurovic), and after suffering a particularly nasty head injury in an accident that leaves him with a touch of amnesia, he’s offered a house-sitting job from a pal (Irwin) that should register some easy greenbacks. What Andre doesn’t know (or remember) is that this particular house is in fact one of horrors (same can be said for the film). The only thing non-horrific about this dwelling is the copious amount of booze and weed that’s been stowed away for Andre to partake in, and you’d need it to contend with all the damn creepy-assed busts and mannequins that are littered around the place.

Found footage (my nemesis) is somewhat used as a shooting technique here, with Andre using security cameras and web-cams to help jog his memory (thanks, Doc), and you’ll grow a bit tired of the stagnant activity that these image-capturors reel in at times. Jump-scares are supplanted with endless ticks of time setting up the scares… which frankly don’t come very often.

The idea that Andre has suffered a traumatic injury to his gray matter would certainly explain some of his actions in the film, but do we all really need to be subject to it? Throw in a potential love interest (van Heteren) and an unusually eerie fella (James Duval) that comes knocking, posing as a neighbor that’s warning Andre about some vicious souls patrolling the neighborhood.

As the night rolls on, Andre begins to uncover some evidence that solidifies the thought that he certainly isn’t taking up space in this house alone at the time, but the ever-switching camera angles and inane plot direction steer this one towards a very thick brick wall before it ever gets the chance to gain any traction. The “guess-who” premise runs dry extremely fast, and the performances are as lifeless as the mannequins that infest the home – my advice (which ain’t worth a hill of beans) would be to take a very large pass on this one, for the pain you’ll endure will certainly be some of the ocular kind.

IDW Launching Ghostbusters 101 Comic Series in March 2017

0
0

The rebooted Ghostbusters received a pretty mixed response when it debuted in theaters earlier this year, but IDW has plans for the all-female team in 2017: Ghostbusters 101 is launching in March and will bring both the gals and their earlier male counterparts together for the first time!

We have the details right here…

From the Press Release:
After making their cinematic debut this summer, the latest iteration of Ghostbusters will now answer a new call in 2017, appearing for the first time alongside the original Ghostbusters in Ghostbusters 101: a new comic book series launching in March 2017.

The ghostbusting team of Holtzmann, Yates, Tolan, and Gilbert will cross paths with Venkman, Stantz, Zeddemore, and Spengler in a brand new comic book series set in the long-running IDW continuity from the fan-favorite, critically-acclaimed, and prolific Ghostbusters comics creative team of Erik Burnham, Dan Schoening, and Luis Antonio Delgado, who have written and drawn the IDW comics for the past five years.

Shortly after the classic Ghostbusters decide to get back to their roots of teaching the next generation of ‘busters, an inter-dimensional mishap merges together their universe with that of the new crew of paranormal police. Now, with the fate of two dimensions in the balance (maybe more?!), can these distinctly different teams come together to repel the greatest supernatural challenge any of them have ever faced? They’re going to have to find a way if there’s any hope for survival. Prepare for mass hysteria of the dogs and cats living together variety because this time everyone… ANSWERS THE CALL!

“I’ve always wanted to meld the two worlds,” said Ivan Reitman, co-founder, Ghost Corps. “It would be great fun to see them all together for the first time, and I think it’s important for the future that we bring it back into a single universe.”

“When we found out Sony and Ghost Corps were ready to let IDW play in the Ghostbusters: Answer the Call sandbox, we were beyond ecstatic,” said series editor Tom Waltz. “Abby, Erin, Patty, and Holtzmann are such fun characters, and to be able to have them join forces with the original ‘busting crew (as well as our expansive roster of fan-favorite supporting characters) is a wonderful creative opportunity for all involved. And in the undeniably capable hands of Erik Burnham, Dan Schoening, and Luis Delgado, I’m confident it will prove to be a proton blast of epic proportions — for both old and new fans of this sensational franchise.”

“Ghostbusters continues to resonate with fans, and maintaining a fresh narrative is critical to our long-term consumer products strategy,” said Jamie Stevens, EVP, Sony Pictures Entertainment Worldwide Consumer Products. “We are thrilled to have IDW as our partner. Aside from an incredible creative team, they have continued to bring big ideas that deliver on that promise.”

Ghostbusters 101 will answer the call this March with variant covers by Erica Henderson and Tim Lattie. The main covers by Schoening and Delgado will each be part of six inter-connected images featuring the full cast of characters.

Tales From the Crypt Redux on Hold

0
0

Earlier this morning Bloody Disgusting reported that the new version of “Tales From the Crypt” could be dead in the water. Luckily, a TNT network rep came out to comment on the show’s status.

The underlying rights to this classic, vintage property are complicated. TNT and others have been pursuing a solution for more than a year, with significant progress being made. We look forward to the potential for further active development of this valuable franchise once the clearance process is fully resolved.

Sounds like TNT and M. Night Shyamalan are just making sure all the I’s are dotted and the T’s crossed. That’s better for everyone in the long run. Stay tuned.

That’s right, kids! When IFC comes around knocking, you’d best answer the door. At least that’s the case for the upcoming chiller Don’t Knock Twice, starring Katee Sackhoff going one-on-one with a hell of a nasty witch.

IFC Midnight will be releasing the film on VOD and in limited theatres on February 3rd. It’s also getting a release in the UK on March 31, 2017, through Red and Black Films.

Sackhoff (Oculus, Riddick, “Battlestar Galactica”) stars alongside Lucy Boynton (Miss Potter, Ballet Shoes, Mo) and Nick Moran (Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows).

Caradog James (The Machine, Little White Lies) directs from a script by writing duo Mark Huckerby and Nick Ostler (Howl).

Synopsis:
“Knock once to wake her from her bed, twice to raise her from the dead…” So goes a disturbing urban legend involving an abandoned house supposedly inhabited by a vengeful, child-stealing witch.

When troubled teen Chloe (Boynton) raps at the door one night, she has no idea the horror she’s about to unleash. Fleeing to the country home of her estranged mother (Sackhoff)—a recovering addict who’s turned her life around to become a famous artist—Chloe must learn to trust the woman who gave her up years ago in order to stop the bloodthirsty, shape-shifting demon stalking them. This wild supernatural shocker delivers a barrage of nonstop jolts and searing nightmare images.
