Mr. Mercedes Cast Grows

Some quick casting news has arrived for the latest Stephen King adaptation, Mr. Mercedes, as THR is reporting that Jharrel Jerome has joined the cast of David E. Kelley’s series alongside Holland Taylor, who is set to replace the previously announced Ann-Margret.

Based on Stephen King’s 2014 novel of the same name, the Audience Network drama follows a demented killer (“Penny Dreadful’s” Harry Treadaway) who taunts a retired police detective (Brendan Gleeson) with a series of lurid letters and emails, forcing the ex-cop to undertake a private, and potentially felonious, crusade to bring the killer to justice before he is able to strike again.

Jerome (pictured) will play Jerome Robinson, a high school student who does yard work for Hodges (Gleeson). A good-natured wise guy, Jerome helps Hodges with his computer stuff and puts up a home surveillance system for him. Taylor will play Ida Silver, the next-door neighbor of Gleeson’s Det. Bill Hodges. Ida doesn’t miss much and is a real piece of work: prickly, outspoken, self-serving, intimidating, and vulnerable.

Kelley is writing the adaptation of Mr. Mercedes and will serve as showrunner on the Sonar Entertainment-produced series. Jack Bender (“Game of Thrones”) is set to direct, and the two will exec produce with Temple Hill Entertainment’s Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey.

If a deal is sealed, Brown (pictured) will play a government agent who jails Boyd Holbrook’s ex-Marine character but later needs his help with the Predators.

Boyd Holbrook, Olivia Munn, Keegan-Michael Key, and Trevante Rhodes star in Shane Black’s upcoming reboot of the hit 20th Century Fox franchise.

In The Predator, which will be rated R, Olivia Munn is playing a scientist opposite Boyd Holbrook’s Special Forces commando. Further details for the film are being kept firmly under wraps.

Look for The Predator in theaters on February 9, 2018.

Black is directing from a script by Fred Dekker. John Davis, Joel Silver, and Lawrence Gordon — who produced the original — are producing.

Chuck Norris to Silent Rage Again on Blu-ray Later this Year

Imagine it’s 1982, you’re a Hollywood producer, and you’ve noticed how popular those Halloween movies are. So, you come up with a brilliant idea: what if Chuck Norris fought Michael Myers? Oh, to fill some time between kicking and killing, toss in some comic relief scenes involving the guy who played Flounder in Animal House.

A producer did just that, and Silent Rage was born.

Chuck Norris, six-time World Karate Champion, stars in his first suspense film as the tough, street-fighting sheriff of a small Texas town terrorized by a psychotic killer.

Sheriff Stevens (Norris) is faced with the dilemma of stopping the invincible murderer, made virtually indestructible through genetic engineering. A young group of researchers are responsible for developing the genetically altering serum, and the head of the research institute is determined to continue the experiments, regardless of the consequences.

Norris displays fighting brilliance as he single-handedly routs a dozen brutal bikers from a truck stop hangout, while revealing a warm and sexy side when he rekindles an old romance with Alison Halman (Toni Kalem), a researcher at the institute. Excitement, horror, and romance prevail as Norris combats the killer.

Michael Miller’s action thriller Silent Rage, co-starring Stephen Furst and the late Ron Silver, has long been a curious footnote in the annals of horror-dom and cult favorite amongst both Chuck Norris and slasher movie fans.

Mill Creek Entertainment has announced plans to release Silent Rage on Blu-ray later this year. That presents both good news and for fans of the film. On the negative side, given Mill Creek’s track record, you’ll probably get a decent print of the movie but will most likely be a barebones disc; and when I say barebones I mean there might not even be a menu. On the plus side, most of Mill Creek’s Blu-rays retail for about ten bucks.

Stay tuned for details, assuming there are any. Well, there will definitely be a release date. That might be about all there it to write about.

Oh, Mill Creek also announced they’ll also be releasing a Blu-ray of the campy 1989 Rutger Hauer visually-impaired swordsman flick Blind Fury. A win-win for cult movie lovers.

Marvel’s Epic Monsters Unleashed Event is Now Upon Us

Superheroes and giant monsters are both incredibly hot commodities, so Marvel was wise to combine the two for their latest event series, Monsters Unleashed.

The core series, written by Cullen Bunn and illustrated by Steve McNiven, centers on teenager Kei Kawade, also known as Kid Kaiju, who has the ability to summon giant monsters into the real world simply by drawing them. Once the giant creatures emerge into our world, they’ll be doing battle with famous superheroes and laying cities to waste in the process.  There’ll be some familiar Marvel beasts in the series, including the dragon Fin Fang Foom, the hulking one-eyed swamp creature Monstrom, the half man/half ape Gorgilla, The Abominable Snowman, Groot from Guardians of the Galaxy, and more. We’ll also be seeing some badass original monsters too.

The core miniseries will last for five issues, the first of which has just been released, and you can buy it over on ComiXology. Then there’s an ongoing series which will also be called Monsters Unleashed, which will take place shortly afterwards and will continue the story of Kid Kaiju and his monsters.

Then there are the spinoffs. Yup, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man and Deadpool, the Hulk, the Champions, Guardians of the Galaxy, the Uncanny Inhmans, and the All New X-Men and the Avengers are all starring in their own Monsters Unleashed spinoff books which will tie into the main event. Click on the links to buy pre-order. It’s kind of strange that the X-Men were included, because Disney have been trying to erase all memory of the mutant superteam from the Marvel canon because their film rights are owned by 20th Century Fox, but that’s a story for another day.

Below I’ve complied a list of most of the covers released thus far from the various Monsters Unleashed comics, and there sure are some beauties among them.

If you haven’t been watching “Lucifer” on Fox, then you are missing out on a devilishly entertaining sliver of genre fare. While Lucy himself has been LOTS of fun, he’s soon going to be answering to God himself!

The “Psych” and “Galavant” alum will play God Johnson, a patient in a psychiatric hospital, who is charming, enigmatic, and oh yeah, he thinks he’s the one and only God Almighty.

But, as Lucifer (Tom Ellis) tries to prove him a phony, he comes to find that “God Johnson” seems to know things that only Lucifer’s true Father would know. Could he really be the Big Guy Upstairs? We’ll find out when Omundson appears in one episode slated for spring.

After two more original episodes, the Fox drama will go on hiatus until May 1. “Lucifer” airs Mondays at 9 p.m. ET on Fox.

New Bates Motel Posters Promise a Truly Psycho Season 5

“Bates Motel” looks to be going out with a bang if the newly released Season 5 artwork is any indication of the macabre finale ahead of us. IGN got the goods, and you can check out all four of the soon-to-be-returning A&E series’ S5 posters right here.

About “Bates Motel” Season 5:
The haunting fifth and final season of the critically acclaimed drama “Bates Motel,” from writers and executive producers Kerry Ehrin (“Friday Night Lights,” “Parenthood”) and Carlton Cuse (“Lost, “The Strain”), will premiere on Monday, February 20, at 10PM ET/PT on A&E. Fan favorite and Emmy-nominated actress Vera Farmiga returns for double duty as executive producer while also reprising her role as “Mother,” who is very much alive and well, but only in the twisted, complicated mind of “Norman Bates,” played by Freddie Highmore. In addition, eight-time Grammy Award winner and series super fan Rihanna checks in to play the role of “Marion Crane,” putting a newly reimagined and contemporary spin on the iconic character.

This contemporary prequel to the genre-defining film Psycho has provided fans with an intimate look into the unraveling of Norman Bates’ psyche throughout his teenage years. Fans watched as Norman’s dangerous transformation came full circle when he methodically murdered his beloved mother, Norma, in the final gut-wrenching episodes of Season Four.

Season Five of “Bates Motel” picks up almost two years later and finds Norman (Freddie Highmore), a grown man now, living a double life. Publicly he’s a happy and well-adjusted member of the White Pine Bay community, but at home Norman struggles; his violent blackouts continue to increase as Mother (Vera Farmiga) threatens to take over his mind completely. Meanwhile, Dylan Massett (Max Thierot) and Emma Decody (Olivia Cooke), since leaving White Pine Bay, have been living their lives blissfully unaware of Norma’s death and Norman’s full on descent into psychosis. Unfortunately for them, they will soon find themselves drawn back into Norman’s insanity, while a vengeful Alex Romero (Nestor Carbonell), who is currently incarcerated for perjury, hungers for a chance to destroy his stepson and avenge the murder of his one true love, Norma Bates.

New faces find their way to the Bates Motel this season to further complicate Norman’s life and threaten to unearth his dark secrets. Viewers will finally meet the iconic Marion Crane, played by Rihanna. In addition, a new couple in town, Madeleine Loomis, played by Isabelle McNally (“House of Cards”), and her husband, Sam Loomis, played by Austin Nichols (“The Walking Dead,” “Ray Donovan”), as well as Sheriff Dana Greene, played by Brooke Smith (“Grey’s Anatomy,” “Ray Donovan”), become entangled in Norman’s life, causing a chain of events that could blow the lid off his secret life. Lastly, fans will be greeted by familiar faces when Caleb Calhoun (Kenny Johnson) and Chick Hogan (Ryan Hurst) return with agendas of their own.

“Bates Motel” is produced by Universal Television for A&E Network. Kerry Ehrin and Carlton Cuse serve as executive producers for Cuse Productions and Kerry Ehrin Productions. Tucker Gates, Vera Farmiga, and Tom Szentgyorgyi also serve as executive producers on the series.

Terminator Will Be Back… In Several Years

0
0

We’ll file this one under “Well, that would be nice” for now. Deadline is reporting that James Cameron, who regains certain rights to his prized creation The Terminator in 2019, is godfathering a new iteration of the film that might finally get it right in drawing a close in the battle between humans and Skynet.

Sources said that Cameron, whose copyright reversion happens 35 years after the release of the 1984 classic, is in early talks with Deadpool director and VFX wiz Tim Miller to direct a reboot and conclusion of one of cinema’s great science-fiction tales.

David Ellison, whose Skydance co-financed Terminator Genisys, is bankrolling an exploratory effort that includes engaging some top-flight science-fiction authors to find the movie creatively. Ellison still holds many Terminator rights, after his 2013 acquisition from sister and Annapurna principal Megan Ellison. She bought them in 2011 at Cannes for $20 million.

In reality anything could happen between now and 2019. I mean, within that time a machine could conceivably be sent back from the future to trigger the apoca… oh, wait.

Hint though… WE WANT THIS GUY!

NOT THIS GUY! Put that CG to work, guys! We know you can do it!

Call of Cthulhu: The Official Video Game Trailer Submerges into the Depths of Madness

Now this is how you do an effective promo. Yup, the new trailer for the upcoming Call of Cthulhu game debuted on the official PlayStation Youtube channel, and it’s scary as fuck. Prepare to question your own sanity after viewing.

Developed by Cyanide, the folks behind Space Hulk: Deathwing and the Of Orcs and Men series, the trailer doesn’t actually show the titular Great Old One (aside from a brief glimpse of a hand drawn sketch at 0:16), but it does show a whole bunch of other creepy shit, including the ravaged carcasses of beached whales, a gathering of cultist dudes in black robes, and a guy scratching out his own eyeballs. Yup, we’re in Lovecraftian territory all right. This has instantly become one of our most anticipated horror games of 2017.

Call of Cthulhu: The Official Video Game – Winter Trailer | PS4
The trailer we hope you’ll enjoy is depicting protagonist Pierce’s submersion into the depths of madness, as he investigates a mysterious death on Darkwater Island, Boston.

You’ll notice a lot of hallmark Lovecraftian themes in this trailer, which was created to really get across the mood we’re aiming for in the game, which you’ll see soon. The idea that you’re never quite sure if what you’re seeing is real, or a symptom of madness – or both!

A Private Detective, Edward Pierce is used to trusting his instincts, but with whale mutilations and disappearing bodies, this is only the beginning as reality becomes skewed. As your investigation leads you closer to the sphere of influence of the Great Dreamer, you will start to doubt everything you see. You will have to find balance between your own sanity, and your determination in finding out what lurks in the shadows – as they say that madness is the only way that can bring you to the truth.

Delve head-first into madness as Call of Cthulhu: The Official Videogame release 2017 on PlayStation 4.

We, like you, love the Syfy series “Face Off,” and right now we have an exclusive clip to share with you guys from the January 24th Season 11 premiere! Dig it!

The season kicks off in exciting fashion as eight teams of two returning all-star artists arrive at Point Vincente Lighthouse to learn about their first spotlight challenge. With a little help from the U.S. Coast Guard, McKenzie greets the artists in dramatic fashion as she helicopters in from over the ocean to tell them that they’ll not only be creating unique alien creatures, but they’ll also be incorporating green screen technology into their designs for the first time in “Face Off” history!

McKenzie also explains that they will not only win and lose as teams, but there will only be an elimination every other challenge, with immunity on the line during the non-elimination challenges. Armed with excitement and this knowledge, the artists head to the lab to get to work.

Some of the all-star teams find their groove immediately, while others struggle not only conceptually, but with how to best incorporate the green screen into their designs – and as always, series mentor Michael Westmore is on hand to provide some helpful guidance.

Once on the reveal stage, they produce some of the most unique creations ever seen in the competition. One team earns immunity, while others find themselves at risk of going home in next week’s elimination challenge.

Strange Horror Comic Takes Fright Beyond the Ordinary

0

The comic series Strange Horror has launched a Kickstarter campaign, and it promises to take “fright beyond the ordinary”. They’ve also created an original soundtrack to go along with it.

Comics and Music Offered Together in Strange Horror Kickstarter:
Writer, illustrator and musician Gary Scott Beatty (Number One, Indie Comics Magazine) started a Kickstarter Tuesday that is, possibly, the first comic book Kickstarter that offers an Original Music Soundtrack level.

“I’ve been following Kickstarter projects for some time and I haven’t seen anything like Strange Horror,” said Beatty. “Along with Strange Horror #1, #2 and #3, we’re offering a ‘Sooth the Beasts’ music and comics level, 40 minutes of mp3 downloads composed and performed by me.”

As front man and keyboardist for the punk/new wave band Flak, Beatty played the midwest in the late ’70s through the early ’80s. A PDF liner notes booklet is included with the Kickstarter pledge. The Strange Horror Soundtrack is “an offbeat composition of musical sounds to entertain and unsettle you,” writes Beatty in the liner notes.

The three Strange Horror comics, 40 pages each, feature three “tales of fright beyond the ordinary” with art by Beatty, Andy Bennett (Ghost Sonata, Cthulhu Tales) and Mark Bloodworth (Deadworld, Hellraiser). Extended Artist Issues of the three books and original art pages are also offered.

“Wounds” is an insane zombie apocalypse story by Beatty, “Welcome to Dunwich” is a Lovecraft homage illustrated by Bloodworth, and “The Devouring” is a savage ghost story illustrated by Bennett. The three issues offered in the Kickstarter wrap up all the first story arcs.

“Except for the original comic pages, we’re all digital so we can pass the savings on to backers,” said Beatty. A “Join the Horde” level is available so Beatty can “turn” backers into zombies on art pieces they can output to hang on a wall, or use online for Instagram, Facebook or Twitter profile pictures.

“Kickstarter is a unique platform,” said Beatty. “It would be difficult to offer this kind of variety any other way.”
