Kevin Smith Joins Call of Duty’s Rave in the Redwoods

I never thought I’d see the day, but Silent Bob will finally appear in a Call of Duty game. Yup, everyone’s favorite motor-mouthed comedian, actor, director and all around awesome dude Kevin Smith has joined the cast of Infinite Warfare’s upcoming Rave in the Redwoods horror DLC, and by the looks of it, he’s bringing his own unique brand of humor with him. He’ll be joined by Ike Barinholtz, Jay Pharoah, Sasheer Zamata and “Robot Chicken’s” Seth Green.

Rave in the Redwoods will included as part of Infinite Warfare’s Sabotage DLC pack, which is being released on January 31. In keeping with the tone of most of Smith’s works, the gameplay trailer below will have you tripping balls.

From the Press Release:
Actor-Director-Podcaster Kevin Smith Joins the New ‘90s Themed Zombies Co-Op Mode, Alongside Returning Cast including Ike Barinholtz, Seth Green, Jay Pharoah, Sasheer Zamata and Paul Reubens

January 24, 2017 – Activision and Infinity Ward today debuted the gameplay trailer for ‘Rave in the Redwoods,’ the undead survival co-op mode featured in the upcoming first DLC Map Pack for Call of Duty®: Infinite Warfare, Sabotage. Rave in the Redwoods continues the macabre narrative of the Infinite Warfare zombies experience, taking fans through a new storyline where they’ll fight as one of four classic ‘90s characters and battle new varieties of the living dead in an abandoned lakeside summer camp full of twists and turns.

Additionally, ‘90s icon Kevin Smith, filmmaker, actor and podcaster extraordinaire (Mallrats, Clerks), will portray himself with voice and likeness in Rave in the Redwoods. Just like the protagonists, Kevin has been catapulted straight into another twisted horror film helmed by Willard Wyler, the enigmatic movie director villain played with voice and likeness by Paul Reubens (Pee-wee’s Big Holiday, Gotham). Smith has been left for dead in the movie, but through a series of creepy events will help players attempt to escape the campgrounds where zombie ravers have taken over and turned the site into a techno-fueled nightmare.

“I told my buddy Jason (Mewes) I was going to be in Call of Duty and he wept tears of joy,” said Kevin Smith. “I used to play Pitfall just because I wanted to be that thin little man jumping over crocodiles, something I could never be in the real world, so ever since I was a little kid I always dreamed of being in a video game.”

The four playable characters from the original story also return, but with fresh, over-the-top ‘90s archetype roles, voiced by Ike Barinholtz (Neighbors, Suicide Squad) as “the Hip Hop Wannabe;” Seth Green (Robot Chicken, Austin Powers) as “the Kandi Raver;” Jay Pharoah (White Famous, Saturday Night Live) as “the Grunge Rocker;” and Sasheer Zamata (Saturday Night Live, Inside Amy Schumer) as “the Westside Gangsta.”

In addition to Rave in the Redwoods zombies content, Sabotage will also include four new multiplayer maps:

Dominion – A re-imagining of the classic Afghan map from Modern Warfare® 2, now set on Mars, Dominion retains all the memorable landmarks and gameplay of the original, anchored by the crashed ship in the center, with a few enhancements designed to take advantage of the new movement system.

Renaissance – Set in Northern Italy, Renaissance pits players against each other on the narrow streets of Venice surrounded by classic architecture and buildings that promote continuous action through the canals and neighborhoods of this iconic city.

Noir – A dark, grimy city map inspired by futuristic Brooklyn at night, Noir is a classic three-lane map set against a backdrop of a dystopian future, filled with cafes and parks surrounding a brutal downtown warzone.

Neon – A virtual training center designed for urban warfare, Neon is a unique, digitized battle arena where cars and other structures spawn out of thin air and enemies dissolve into hundreds of pixels when defeated. Middle lane sightlines will cater to long-range players while the outsides of the map allow for quick counter-attacks in close-quarter action.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Sabotage releases on January 31, 2017 first for the PlayStation 4, with other platforms to follow. The game is rated M for Mature (Blood and Gore, Drug Reference, Intense Violence, Strong Language, Suggestive Themes).

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Sabotage DLC Map Pack will be available as a standalone pack or via the Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Season Pass. The Season Pass can be purchased on its own or obtained as part of the Legacy Pro or Digital Deluxe editions of the game. Season Pass gives discounted access to all four Call of Duty: Infinite WarfareDLC Map Packs released during 2017 (discount based on a Season Pass suggested retail price of $49.99, and four individual DLC Map Packs at a suggested retail price of $15 each). Season Pass owners will also receive 10 Rare Supply Drops upon purchase plus 1,000 bonus Salvage Credits to craft new prototype weapons.

Slayer: Repentless Issue #1 Available Today! Take a Peek Inside!

During last year’s San Diego Comic-Con, we learned about Slayer: Repentless, a new comic series from the band Slayer and Dark Horse that crosses over with the “Repentless” trilogy of music videos. Well, Issue #1 is out today, and to make sure you haven’t forgotten about it, here’s your reminder in the form of a half-dozen pages of interior art.

About Slayer: Repentless:
Legendary heavy metal band Slayer has teamed up with Metalocalypse writer Jon Schnepp and Twilight Zone artist Guiu Vilanova for the three-issue Dark Horse Comics series Slayer: Repentless, with covers by Eisner Award-winning British comics artist Glenn Fairy.

“It’s been my honor to chronicle the bloody road trip that is the Slayer comic series from Dark Horse/Nuclear Blast,” said writer Schnepp. “Using the band’s music and lyrics from their three decades of albums, while crossing over and through the ‘Repentless’ music videos by BJ McDonnell, I have woven a tale of betrayal, hate, perspective, loyalty, family, and murder that will need to be experienced through the comic books’ pages.”

“We’re telling the story that we’ve always told about society and how humans treat each other,” added Tom Araya of Slayer.

With its story of a raging road trip down a bloodstained highway, a tale of the doomed and the damned, the Slayer: Repentless series is an expansion of Slayer’s “Repentless” videos, written and directed by BJ McDonnell (Hatchet III).

Destination America Home to Terror in the Woods

As a city boy I can tell you first hand that I have watched enough horror movies to know that when it comes to the woods, I am staying the hell out of ’em! Now Destination America is giving us a near reason to be afraid of them!

From the Press Release:
Destination America today announced that it has commissioned an all-new series Terror in the Woods (wt) (8 x 60′) with award-winning UK production company Wild Dreams Films. Production is currently underway.

Terror in the Woods (wt) investigates the most shocking unexplained paranormal encounters in the wild. From gator hunting in Louisiana’s bayou to ice fishing in Illinois, and deer hunts in Montana, these are the real-life stories of people who embarked on an outdoors adventure – only to be scared out of the woods by ghosts, monsters, and other unexplained phenomena.

They came to discover the great outdoors, but something discovered them first. Venturing into the woods, lakes and mountains of America, the last thing they expected to experience was to come face to face with threatening paranormal entities. Do they panic and make a run for it? Or bunker down inside a cabin, waiting for what’s next? How will they escape? Using shocking first hand interviews and cinematic drama reconstruction, these terrifying experiences will be brought to life as hunters become the hunted in the outdoors.

Additionally, the series has been signed by Distribution360, who will represent the series internationally having begun discussions with broadcasters and platforms about pre-sales in several markets and will be attending Realscreen Summit later this week for further meetings on the new title.

Terror in the Woods (wt) is produced by Wild Dream Films and Destination America. For Wild Dream Films, Stuart Clarke is executive producer. For Destination America, Cathy Garland is executive producer, Jane Latman is general manager, and Henry Schleiff is Group President of Investigation Discovery, Destination America, and American Heroes Channel.

Wake In Fear (2017)

0
0

Starring Caitlin Stasey, Markus Taylor, Leah McKendrick

Directed by Dylan K. Narang

A bevy of beauties tied up in a hotel room, seemingly at death’s door – on the flipside, we’ve got a hapless soul looking for a break, and it comes at the mysterious expense of a man he’s never met in person. The connection between these two entities? Well, come on in from the cold and take a seat, cause I’m about to split open Dylan K. Narang’s thriller, Wake In Fear, and toss the sinewy pieces under the microscope.

Alternately titled, All I Need, the movie centers around the aforementioned woman in distress (Stasey), and the man whose life needs a monetary boost (Taylor) – our leading lady in chains (so to speak) finds herself on the floor of a dingy hotel room, surrounded by a few other unfortunate lasses – some still breathing, some not. All in all, she’s in a heap of the brown stuff and it looks like she’ll just be waiting until she’s the next to get dragged out the door. As for our ill-fated fella, he’s sans employment, a loving wife, and the necessary funds to throw down for his child support – the guy’s got issues, okay? His “salvation” comes one day with a phone call and the chance to make some greenbacks by becoming a courier of sorts, delivering unknown packages to random addresses. The connection, you ask? Well, it does take a bit of time to simmer this little burner-banquet to the respectable temperature, but when all’s said and done, it’s a moderate delicacy, mainly because the backbone behind the payoff is a brittle one, and suffice to say, it’s something that’s been offered up before – oh, original ideas, where have you gone to?

Performances from both Taylor and Stacey are workable – Stacey’s portrayal of the tortured was one that didn’t rely on a ton of dialogue, yet was executed by more physical actions. Taylor used more of a controlled reservation in his representation of a dad who’s looking for a little solid ground, regardless of the cost. Now for those looking for a load of scares or overtly thrilling moments, I’m sorry to say that you’ll more than likely be disappointed – the idea here is to connect the dots, and they’re pretty large dots, and you all are pretty damned intelligent horror fans, so I’ll leave it up to you to add up the numbers and give me your answers on the quiz sheet later on. Overall, Wake In Fear is one of those films that lays it cards on the table, and simply waits for the audience to decipher whether or not they’ll want to invest their time in the resulting spectacle. For me, it’s one hand dealt, then I’m out.

Rest in Peace: Mary Tyler Moore

The industry as a whole has lost a true icon today with the sad passing of the wonderfully funny Mary Tyler Moore. Moore passed away this afternoon at a Connecticut hospital, her publicist confirmed. She was 80.

She was the star of countless TV shows and movies, but Moore only graced our genre twice by appearing in Richard Donner’s X-15 and Boris Karloff’s TV anthology “Thriller.”

Moore was beloved by many, and rightly so. We here at Dread Central would like to take this time to extend our sincerest of condolences to Mary’s friends, family members, and constituents. Thank you for everything over the years. May your smile light up the heavens above like it did here on earth. Bless you!
