Having already seen the first two episodes of the upcoming fifth and final season of “Bates Motel,” we can assure you that you are going to LOVE the direction in which the show is headed.

Not content to take our word for it?  Here’s a new sneak peek of Season 5, in which Norman meets Marion Crane.

About “Bates Motel” Season 5:
The haunting fifth and final season of the critically acclaimed drama “Bates Motel,” from writers and executive producers Kerry Ehrin (“Friday Night Lights,” “Parenthood”) and Carlton Cuse (“Lost, “The Strain”), will premiere on Monday, February 20, at 10PM ET/PT on A&E. Fan favorite and Emmy-nominated actress Vera Farmiga returns for double duty as executive producer while also reprising her role as “Mother,” who is very much alive and well, but only in the twisted, complicated mind of “Norman Bates,” played by Freddie Highmore. In addition, eight-time Grammy Award winner and series super fan Rihanna checks in to play the role of “Marion Crane,” putting a newly reimagined and contemporary spin on the iconic character.

This contemporary prequel to the genre-defining film Psycho has provided fans with an intimate look into the unraveling of Norman Bates’ psyche throughout his teenage years. Fans watched as Norman’s dangerous transformation came full circle when he methodically murdered his beloved mother, Norma, in the final gut-wrenching episodes of Season Four.

Season Five of “Bates Motel” picks up almost two years later and finds Norman (Freddie Highmore), a grown man now, living a double life. Publicly he’s a happy and well-adjusted member of the White Pine Bay community, but at home Norman struggles; his violent blackouts continue to increase as Mother (Vera Farmiga) threatens to take over his mind completely. Meanwhile, Dylan Massett (Max Thierot) and Emma Decody (Olivia Cooke), since leaving White Pine Bay, have been living their lives blissfully unaware of Norma’s death and Norman’s full on descent into psychosis. Unfortunately for them, they will soon find themselves drawn back into Norman’s insanity, while a vengeful Alex Romero (Nestor Carbonell), who is currently incarcerated for perjury, hungers for a chance to destroy his stepson and avenge the murder of his one true love, Norma Bates.

New faces find their way to the Bates Motel this season to further complicate Norman’s life and threaten to unearth his dark secrets. Viewers will finally meet the iconic Marion Crane, played by Rihanna. In addition, a new couple in town, Madeleine Loomis, played by Isabelle McNally (“House of Cards”), and her husband, Sam Loomis, played by Austin Nichols (“The Walking Dead,” “Ray Donovan”), as well as Sheriff Dana Greene, played by Brooke Smith (“Grey’s Anatomy,” “Ray Donovan”), become entangled in Norman’s life, causing a chain of events that could blow the lid off his secret life. Lastly, fans will be greeted by familiar faces when Caleb Calhoun (Kenny Johnson) and Chick Hogan (Ryan Hurst) return with agendas of their own.

“Bates Motel” is produced by Universal Television for A&E Network. Kerry Ehrin and Carlton Cuse serve as executive producers for Cuse Productions and Kerry Ehrin Productions. Tucker Gates, Vera Farmiga, and Tom Szentgyorgyi also serve as executive producers on the series.

It warms our hearts to see the work of R.L. Stine, a staple of many fans’ childhood, getting all of the attention that he is today. With Goosebumps whipping but and an adaptation of his Fear Street series on the way, there’s never been a better time to become acquainted with Stine’s unique brand of shivers.

Speaking of the latter, The Tracking Board is reporting that 20th Century Fox and Chernin Entertainment have hired Kyle Killen (Scenic Route) to write the script for Fear Street.

Stine began writing Fear Street in 1989, several years before Goosebumps came to be. It told the macabre tales of the town of Shadyside, Ohio. A place in which teens were dropping like flies to all manner of baddies. Fear Street was meant for an older crowd than Goosebumps and later in 1995 a series of books entitled Ghosts of Fear Street was penned to bring the series to a younger audience. Fear Street ran for 52 titles.

Meet The Predators And More Rumors!

“Meet the Predators” seems like a great idea for a faux 90s sitcom, but alas, that’s just not meant to be. What is though is Shane Black’s upcoming film, The Predator, and right now we have your first look at the men behind the monster(s).

As reported by AVP Galaxy, IMDB has listed stuntman Kyle Strauts as the man brining the intergalactic hunter to life. The site goes on to report that fellow stuntman and dancer Brian A. Prince maybe donning the suit as well, a rumor fueled by the image of the two of them you see below that Strauts posted on Instagram with the caption “Training with my fellow giant! Can’t wait to work together!

The predators

Kyle Strauts and Brian A. Prince

The rumors don’t stop there though… a leaked synopsis (which has since been removed) indicates we may even be seeing a ten-foot tall genetically enhanced and more advanced Predator thrown into the mix. Of course this could all be bullshit but that does sound kind of cool, no?

Boyd Holbrook, Olivia Munn, Thomas Jane, Keegan-Michael Key, Sterling K. Brown, Jacob Tremblay, and Trevante Rhodes star. Black is directing from a script by Fred Dekker. John Davis, Joel Silver, and Lawrence Gordon — who produced the original — are producing.

In The Predator, which will be rated R, Munn is playing a scientist opposite Holbrook’s Special Forces commando.

Look for The Predator in theaters on February 9, 2018.

The film stars Frank Grillo (The Purge: Anarchy, The Purge: Election Day), Bojana Novakovic (Drag Me to Hell, Devil), Jonny Weston (Under the Bed, Project Almanac), Iko Uwais (The Raid), Callan Mulvey, Antonio Fargas, Pamelyn Chee, Yayan Ruhian (The Raid), Jacob Vargas, Valentine Payen, Betty Gabriel, Jack Chausse, and Kevin O’Donnell.

Beyond Skyline’s storyline allegedly takes place at the same time the first film did.

London After Midnight Finally Found?

One of the biggest shames in all of the horror genre is that Tod Browning’s 1927 film London After Midnight, starring Lon Chaney, had been lost. It was assembled once a few years back using stills, but that was far from a true representation. However… things might be changing.

Filmmaker Robert Parigi (“Tales from the Crypt,” Love Object, “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D”) just posted the following on his Facebook page

“I’m noticing chatter that a 7-reel print of long-lost Todd Browning/Lon Chaney film LONDON AFTER MIDNIGHT (featuring Chaney’s iconic “Man in the Beaver Hat” Vampire) has been discovered in Spain!

I had long heard rumors of a print in Cuba. Is this perhaps that print, now sent to Spain?

20 years ago, I heard rumors of a print in the U.S., and contacted the supposed owner offering to transfer it to (then state-of-the-art) D1, but when it came time to produce the print he backed out.”

Now, yes, there’s nothing solid here, but at least there’s a possibility. We’ll do some digging. At the end of the day, at least we had a reason to talk about Lon fuckin’ Chaney! That’s not so bad, is it?

Synopsis:
The abandoned home of a wealthy man who supposedly committed suicide five years earlier is taken over by ghoulish figures – could they be vampires?

EFM 2017: Ice Cream Truck Pulls Up With a Clip

The first clip for the new film from indie filmmaker Megan Freels, The Ice Cream Truck, just pulled up to our bumper, so check it out before you end up with an Astro-Pop to the eye.

From the Press Release:
Home Entertainment and Theatrical Film Distributor Uncork’d Entertainment has acquired worldwide rights to Megan Freels Johnston’s sophomore feature The Ice Cream Truck.

Uncork’d President Keith Leopard made the deal with the filmmaker, who made her debut on 2014’s Rebound, ahead of the European Film Market in Berlin this week.

The provocative psychological thriller stars Deanna Russo (Being Human, Gossip Girl) as Mary, who moves back to her suburban hometown after her husband gets relocated for work. As her family ties up loose ends back home, she moves into their new house alone. And although the move makes Mary nostalgic for her youth, there’s something very sinister about that Ice Cream Truck that patrols her suburb. Killing.

“Megan Freels Johnston has made a very scary but also very smart film”, says Uncork’d President Keith Leopard. “The film also offers us a unique and refreshing take on a genre dominated largely by men”. Adds Leopard, “We’re excited to partner with Megan on what’s sure to be an early chapter in her long and illustrious career. I’m very excited about the release of The Ice Cream Truck.”

Says writer-director Megan Freels Johnston : “We are so excited to be working with Uncork’d Entertainment on this film whose niche is a mix of Art House and Horror Films, since The Ice Cream Truck strongly represents both of those genres.”

Storytelling is very much in Freels Johnston’s DNA. The granddaughter of legendary crime writer Elmore Leonard, The Ice Cream Truck screenplay was a semi-finalist in the Circus Road Screenplay competition.

As a producer developing material for over a decade, Freels Johnston worked on adaptations of her grandfather’s work and produced Sparks, the directorial debut of Joseph Gordon-Levitt. After completing a project for the USA Network, she decided to follow her passion and write and direct her own material. Her first film, 2014’s micro budget thriller Rebound, developed a cult following on VOD, was called, “Almost David Lynchian in its strangeness” by Film Threat and Rue Morgue said, the film “(was) worth watching to the end for the unnervingly realistic twist ending.”

The Ice Cream Truck also stars John Redlinger (Thirst, Banshee), Emil Johnsen (Isolerad), Hilary Barraford (Go For Sisters), Jeff Daniel Phillips (31) and Lisa Ann Walter (War of the Worlds).

The Ice Cream Truck will be released in 2017.

The Eyes of My Mother Focus on Home Video Details

$

0

We told you a few weeks ago that The Eyes of My Mother (review) would be hitting Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital HD on March 7, 2017, and now we have the official details.

From the Press Release:
With his directorial debut, Nicolas Pesce’s THE EYES OF MY MOTHER “claws into your subconscious and lingers there” (New York Magazine). One of the top horror movies of 2016, a favorite at last year’s Sundance Film Festival, and “Certified Fresh” by Rotten Tomatoes, THE EYES OF MY MOTHER, arrives on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD on March 7 from Magnolia Home Entertainment under the Magnet Label.

Shot in stark black and white, the “shockingly original” (IndieWire) film follows Francisca (Kika Magalhaes) who must cope with an unspeakable trauma caused by a visitor who shatters her family’s utopia. In the brutal aftermath of the unexpected visitor, Francisca clings to her reticent father in the most unusual ways to fulfill her loneliness. With a lack of connection to the world, the tragedy and teachings from her surgeon mother lead to very dark desires and curiosities on those she keeps sheltered on her secluded farmhouse. THE EYES OF MY MOTHER “contains some of the most memorable visual compositions” (Roger Ebert) as Pesce follows Francisca’s life into peculiar, secret places.

A “masterfully crafted horror movie” (Shock Till You Drop), THE EYES OF MY MOTHER Blu-ray and DVD also dives into a behind the scenes look at the film including an interview with director Nicolas Pesce.

Synopsis
In their secluded farmhouse, a mother, formerly a surgeon in Portugal, teaches her daughter, Francisca, to understand anatomy and be unfazed by death. One afternoon, a mysterious visitor horrifyingly shatters the idyll of Francisca’s family life, deeply traumatizing the young girl, but also awakening some unique curiosities. Though she clings to her increasingly reticent father, Francisca’s loneliness and scarred nature converge years later when her longing to connect with the world around her takes on a distinctly dark form. Shot in crisp black and white, the haunting, and at times disturbing, visual compositions of THE EYES OF MY MOTHER evoke its protagonist’s isolation and illuminate her deeply unbalanced worldview. Genre-inflected, but so strikingly unique as to defy categorization, writer/director Nicolas Pesce’s assured feature debut allows us only an elliptical presence in Francisca’s world, guiding our imaginations to follow her into peculiar, secret places.

The Soska sisters, Jen and Sylvia, are back as promised with a reminder about their current Blood Drive and a basket full of badass videos celebrating Women in Horror Recognition Month.

From the Soskas:
Happy Valentine’s Day! We wanted to make sure that yours doesn’t suck by releasing a special treat just for you…. and the millions out there that desperately need you to donate blood.

This is Women In Horror Month’s 8th annual celebration. We like to do a little something different and give back in the vein (pun totally intended) of our favorite femme fatales and final girls. We want you to be brave. And bleed for us. Most of us will need blood in our lifetimes and, if not, someone close to us definitely will. There is no substitute for blood. We need you.

Every year we release a public service announcement for Blood Services and American Red Cross in the most unofficial of ways. We may have gone a bit too far with the content in the past (and present), but we know they secretly love it. We bring together a team of talented filmmakers and artists from across the globe to participate and their videos blow us away. This year is no different.

This year we challenged our artists to come up with music videos to our Blood Anthem this year by Kevvy of Fake Shark. The results were NSFW, hilarious, deranged, sexy, and all around awesome. On February 1st we released our collective and sneak preview of what’s to come, but today, it’s time for a full assault.

Some viewer discretion is advised, but I say live it up. It’s Valentine’s Day.

Here are the FULL VIDEOS from our 2017 lineup of feminists and artists. Some folks will be throwing their videos up on their own sites, channels, etc, at some point today, but here is a taste to get started….

“We Need It” by Maude Michaud (60 Seconds 2 Die, Dys-):

“Faffing Can Be Fatal” by Nicholas Vince (Hellraiser, The Night Whispered):

“Sippin’ on Some Syrup!” by Jill Sixx Gevargizian (The Stylist):

“We Need It” by Aleah Anseth (Being Little Miss Risk):

“Brent Ray Fraser – The Penis Painter” available at www.brentrayfraser.com (NSFW)

More artists will be releasing them soon throughout the month! Stay tuned and get bleeding!

The Void – Insane New Trailer and Artwork

We’ve been waiting for a domestic release date for The Void for a while now, and while it’s yet to come the flick is opening in the UK on March 31st and on VOD platforms April 24th. As a result a trailer and some new artwork have arrived via Empire. Dig it!

From the Press Release:
Screen Media Films has acquired U.S. rights for the horror title THE VOID (review), which is written and directed by Jeremy Gillespie and Steven Kostanski and stars Aaron Poole, Ellen Wong, Kathleen Munroe, Stephanie Belding, and Kenneth Welsh.  The film will be released in theaters day-and-date in Q1 2017. The film previously made its world premiere at Fantastic Fest earlier this year, followed by additional festival screenings at the London Film Festival, Toronto After Dark Film Festival, Stockholm International Film Festival, and Abertoir Horror Festival.

Related Story/Interview: Jeremy Gillespie, Steven Kostanski, Kathleen Munroe and Casey Walker Talk The Void

In THE VOID, officer Daniel Carter (Poole) happens upon a blood-soaked figure limping down a deserted stretch of road while he’s in the middle of a routine patrol. He rushes the young man to a nearby rural hospital staffed by a skeleton crew, only to discover that patients and personnel are transforming into something inhuman. As the horror intensifies, Carter leads the other survivors on a hellish voyage into the subterranean depths of the hospital in a desperate bid to end the nightmare before it’s too late.

“While THE VOID is in part an homage to a few of my favorite genre films, it is uniquely terrifying and disturbing – in the best ways possible. Genre fans will have a fun ride,” said Seth Needle, SVP of Worldwide Acquisitions at Screen Media.

“It has been a long road to get this film made. We fought passionately to craft a terrifying story loaded with amazing practical effects and a stellar cast. Our entire team is thrilled to have partners like Screen Media on board who want to share it with a wide audience as much as we do,” said producer Casey Walker at Cave Painting Pictures.

The deal was negotiated by Needle with Nate Bolotin and Scott Freije at XYZ Films and with CAA on behalf of the filmmakers.

THE VOID is written and directed by Steven Kostanski and Jeremy Gillespie, produced by Casey Walker and Jonathan Bronfman, executive produced by Ross Dinerstein, Todd Brown, James Norri, Jeremy Platt, Peter Graham, Steve Hays, Lon Molnar, Mic Forsey, and David Watson, with production design by Henry Fong, edited by Cam McLauchlin, cinematography by Samy Inayeh, and music by Blitz/Berlin, Menalon, and LUSTMORD. The production companies are Cave Painting Pictures and JoBro Productions.

Gore Verbinski Talks Bioshock Kerfuffle

$

So yeah, remember when Gore Verbinski was set to direct a film adaptation of BioShock? Well, so does he and his memories of it aren’t exactly happy either.

Read on for an excerpt from a recent Reddit AMA in which he lays out the situation for us.

“Well it’s no short answer to that question but we were eight weeks prior shooting when the plug was pulled. It’s an R rated movie. I wanted to keep it R rated, I felt like that would be appropriate, and it’s an expensive movie. It’s a massive world we’re creating and it’s not a world we can simply go to locations to shoot. “A Cure For Wellness”, we were able to really utilize a variety of location to create the world. “BioShock” it wouldn’t work like that, we’d be building an entire underworld universe. So I think the combination of the price tag and the rating, universal just didn’t feel comfortable ultimately.”

At that time also there were some R rated, expensive R rated movies that were not working. So I think things have changed and maybe there will be another chance, but it’s very difficult when you’re eight weeks away from shooting a movie you really can see in your head and you’ve almost filmed the entire thing, so emotionally you’re right at that transition from architect to becoming a contractor and that will be a difficult place to get back to.

One day, man. One day!
