The Funniest Ghost Video Ever in The Gasp Menagerie

$

I really hope this is it.

I really, deeply hope this video captures a real, honest-to-God ghost, and these two knuckleheads are narrating it.

If not, it’s still one of the funniest things you’ll see.

As discussed on the Brainwaves broadcast, this video is a few years old, and I’ve yet to find the original version.  What’s posted below is a good one without commentary that shows the entire thing.

What we have are a couple of gentlemen from “the hood” who are sitting on a balcony enjoying some… herbal recreation.  This balcony overlooks an old cemetery.  In this cemetery, a woman in white is traipsing around, downright frolicking at times.  She has no shoes, and at one point runs through the graveyard and slams her head onto a gravestone.

It’s right after this that recording begins.  I’ll just bring you the video now, with only the warning that this contains some very, very NSFW language.

Now, I don’t know if the pale girl seen by Boogie and Dee was a ghost or not.  What I do know is this is extremely weird behavior for a person who isn’t a goth.  Most importantly, it certainly shook up our drug-addled duo of commentators to extremely hilarious effect.

Explore The Gasp Menagerie!

Have a weird story? Potential evidence of the supernatural, or at least something hard to explain? Spot any creepy critters out there roaming the wilds? LET ME KNOW! I’d love to talk about it and possibly write it up right here in the Gasp Menagerie. You’ll get appropriate credit, of course, and everyone else will get fresh creepy (as opposed to fresh Creepy, which, trust me… nobody wants that) to enjoy. As always, I can be found at mrdark@dreadcentral.com. Now get out there, find some weird, and let’s get this party started.

More Neil Gaiman Stories May Be Coming to Television

FreemantleMedia North America has announced that they have come to an exclusive, multi-year first look agreement deal with Neil Gaiman to potentially adapt more of the author’s works for television.

Gaiman’s novel American Gods will be making its premiere Sunday, April 30th, on STARZ, marking the first collaboration between FMNA and Gaiman. Apparently, on top of adapting already existing works, FMNA and Gaiman will also be working on original content.

Craig Cegielski, co-CEO, FremantleMedia North America, said, “Neil Gaiman is one of the most distinctive writers of our time, and we’ve been incredibly fortunate to be entrusted with his vision while adapting American Gods. Our experience together has proven more than collaborative – it’s a shared ambition to create, develop, and produce singular, bespoke content. We couldn’t be happier to diversify and expand our relationship to future projects.

Commented Neil Gaiman, “Working with my friends at FremantleMedia on shepherding American Gods to the screen has been an exciting and delightful way to spend the last three years. I’ve learned to trust them and to harness their talents and enthusiasm, as they’ve learned to harness mine. They don’t mind that I love creating a ridiculously wide variety of things, and I am glad that even the strangest projects of mine will have a home with them. American Gods is TV nobody has seen before, and I can’t wait to announce the specifics behind what we have coming up next.

The little town of Castle Rock, Maine, has witnessed some strange events and unusual visitors over the years, but there is one story that has never been told… until now.

There are three ways up to Castle View from the town of Castle Rock: Route 117, Pleasant Road, and the Suicide Stairs. Every day in the summer of 1974 twelve-year-old Gwendy Peterson has taken the stairs, which are held by strong (if time-rusted) iron bolts and zig-zag up the cliffside.

At the top of the stairs, Gwendy catches her breath and listens to the shouts of the kids on the playground. From a bit farther away comes the chink of an aluminum bat hitting a baseball as the Senior League kids practice for the Labor Day charity game.

One day, a stranger calls to Gwendy: “Hey, girl. Come on over here for a bit. We ought to palaver, you and me.”

On a bench in the shade sits a man in black jeans, a black coat like for a suit, and a white shirt unbuttoned at the top. On his head is a small neat black hat. The time will come when Gwendy has nightmares about that hat…

We’re only a few weeks away from the release of Kong: Skull Island, which promises to bring to the screen the largest incarnation of the titular beast ever seen. If that’s really the case, then there are obviously going to be people who want to know a bit more about his dimensions and the impact of his presence. That’s why the folks over at bestukcasino.org.uk (don’t ask me why they made it) put together a shiny infographic that aims to solve the mystery of King Kong’s weight and other physical traits. Check it out below!

(via www.bestukcasino.org.uk)

Kong: Skull Island will be released worldwide in 2D, 3D in select theaters, and IMAX beginning March 10, 2017, from Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

Kong: Skull Island stars Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, Brie Larson, John Goodman, and John C. Reilly. The international ensemble cast also includes Tian Jing, Corey Hawkins, Jason Mitchell, John Ortiz, Thomas Mann, Shea Whigham, Toby Kebbell, and Eugene Cordero.

Jordan Vogt-Roberts directs the film from a screenplay by Max Borenstein, John Gatins, Dan Gilroy, and Derek Connolly. To fully immerse audiences in the mysterious Skull Island, the director, cast, and filmmaking team filmed across three continents over six months, capturing its primordial landscapes on Oahu, Hawaii; on Australia’s Gold Coast; and finally in Vietnam, where filming took place across multiple locations, some of which have never before been seen on film.

Synopsis:
A diverse team of scientists, soldiers, and adventurers unite to explore a mythical, uncharted island in the Pacific, as dangerous as it is beautiful. Cut off from everything they know, the team ventures into the domain of the mighty Kong, igniting the ultimate battle between man and nature. As their mission of discovery becomes one of survival, they must fight to escape a primal Eden in which humanity does not belong.

Untold Horror Tells the Story of Genre Films That Never Got Made

Dave Alexander, former Editor-in-Chief of Rue Morgue, and a crew of merry misfits have just launched the multi-media brand Untold Horror, which currently lives as a multi-part documentary series that interviews some of the biggest names in the horror genre to find out just what happened to those films that never came to be.

Currently, they’ve got interviews with Takeshi Miike (Audition, Imprint, One Missed Call, Ichi the Killer), John Landis (An American Werewolf in London), George A. Romero (Night of the Living Dead), William Lustig (Maniac), Richard Raaphoorst (Frankenstein’s Army), and more. The series was created, produced, and written by Alexander and Mark Pollesel, produced and directed by Bob Barrett, and produced and edited by Kevin Burke, with Andrea Butler line producing.

Per the official press release, Untold Horror will, “…examine a variety of filmmakers, from Hollywood heavyweights to independent legends, from award winners to stubborn mavericks, delving into the projects that they’ve spent months, years, and in some cases, decades attempting to breathe life into.

On top of the documentary series, Untold Horror will be publishing George A. Romero’s children’s book The Little World of Humongo Bongo. The book was originally released in French for the European market but will be getting an English international release sometime this fall/winter.

Synopsis:
What happened to David Cronenberg’s Frankenstein? Roger Avery’s legendary Phantasm script? The dozens of George A. Romero projects announced over the years that disappeared? Why couldn’t the combined powers of Guillermo del Toro, James Cameron, and Tom Cruise create At the Mountains of Madness? Has there ever been an unmade film with more talent attached to it than The Creature From the Black Lagoon remake? Why did these passion projects die, and what killed them? Can any of them live again in some form or another?

Untold Horror looks beyond the frustration and heartbreak, however, to celebrate the spirits of these projects, the passion in their creators’ hearts, and often the other projects – film or otherwise – that rose from the ashes. We ask not just the creators, but experts in the industry, studio decision makers, and passionate fans if these buried movies could – or even should – rise again. We’ll even discover that, thanks to fervent fandom, some of them already are coming back to life.

The 35th episode of Brainwaves Horror and Paranormal Talk Radio is upon us, and to continue the spooky, joining us will be Craig Nehring of Fox Valley Ghost Hunters.

BIO:
Craig Nehring is from Minocqua, WI, and lived in that area for 30 years. He lived very close to Summerwind Mansion, and that is how he got his start into ghost-hunting. In addition he would see shadows and hear voices and things he couldn’t explain.

In 2005 Nehring moved to the Fox Valley area. Around that time the ghost-hunting shows on television started to pop up all over the place. Nehring decided to build his own team of investigators. His team’s first investigation was at an old hospital. In 2010 the Fox Valley Ghost Hunters were in the local news paper; The Post Crescent followed them around in the building and wrote a story on the team. This was only the beginning…

Craig Nehring

Now, in 2017, Nehring never thought they would be where they are at. Some teams don’t like publicity or to be in the spotlight. Craig is just the opposite. He wants the attention to get his team’s name out there. Mr. Nehring has a book called Wisconsin’s Most Haunted, which can be found on Amazon and many other places as well. Currently Nehring is working on a second book for Wisconsin haunts with his co-author, Enid Cleaves. In addition he is writing another book based on his team’s out-of-state investigations. Nehring’s team did some U.S. Cellular commercials and had over a million views. The Fox Valley Ghost Hunters are doing seminars all over different libraries in Wisconsin. Over the past few years the FVGH team has been in parades and been featured on TV. Various outlets such as the Huffington Post and Milwaukee Sentinel have published articles on them. They look forward to a great year with more opportunities including Villisca Ax Murder House and Waverly Hills Sanitarium. Each team member’s favorite motto is “No End In Sight.” They hope to meet many new faces and hear your ghost stories as well.

The Fox Valley Ghost Hunters have a team that is very caring and helpful towards their clients. The team’s goals are to help their clients deal with what is in their homes or business. All team members will do their best to help clear a house of anything that could be negative. The team is comprised of individuals of all ages – from 20 to 50. Every member’s soul purpose is not to run around and see ghosts, but to give help and direction to their clients when needed. Nehring investigates already well-known haunted spots to learn about what is there and why they are there and to find answers to the afterlife. Please follow them on Facebook and enjoy all their pictures and voices and stories throughout the years. Craig wants to thank all his team’s clients and followers throughout the years and today for without their continued support and enthusiasm we would not exist.

Horror Decor Launches New Line of Monster Squad-Themed Items

When I was growing up, watching horror movies was rather difficult as my dad was too scared of them and my mom didn’t want me watching such violent offerings. Still, I was persistent in my desire to enjoy such wonders, so I was allowed to watch horror movies aimed at kids. Y’know, titles like Gremlins, Gremlins 2, Edward Scissorhands, and similar. One title that I was given approval to enjoy and that I absolutely adored was Monster Squad. Something about that film was so entertaining and exhilarating that I watched it over and over again, delighting in seeing the classic Universal movie monsters do their thing together.

The love of that movie has persisted over the years and not just with me. Mondo released a limited edition 7-inch vinyl single for two of the tracks from the film (“Rock Until you Drop” by Michael Sembello and “Monster Squad Rap” by The Monster Squad), writer Shane Black has spoken about a potential sequel, and now merch company Horror Decor has launched a series of Monster Squad-themed items that hearken to the delightful charm of the film!

You can see photos of the new items below and if any of them catch your eye then you can simply head on to their website to get whatever you’d like!

A new video popped up online today for Showtime’s upcoming “Twin Peaks” revival that calls itself “The Characters of Twin Peaks: Vol. 1,” which would seem to indicate that more volumes are coming.

Vol. 1 reintroduces us to some of the show’s wackier characters, including The Log Lady (Catherine E. Coulson), Mayor Milford (John Boylan), Dr. Lawrence Jacoby (Russ Tamblyn), the Hornes (Sherilyn Fenn, Richard Beymer), and more.

The 18-part limited event series “Twin Peaks” will debut with a two-part premiere on Sunday, May 21st, at 9PM ET/PT. Immediately following the premiere, Showtime subscribers will have access to the third and fourth parts, exclusively across the network’s streaming service, SHOWTIME ANYTIME, and SHOWTIME ON DEMAND. In its second week, “Twin Peaks” will air the third and fourth parts back-to-back on the linear network, starting at 9 p.m. ET/PT, followed by one-hour parts in subsequent weeks.

About “Twin Peaks”:
The critically-acclaimed television phenomenon “TWIN PEAKS” returns as a limited series to Showtime in 2017. “TWIN PEAKS” is written and produced by series creators and executive producers David Lynch and Mark Frost and is directed entirely by David Lynch.

While the full mystery awaits, fans can expect many familiar faces, including Golden Globe winner and Emmy Award nominee Kyle MacLachlan, who reprises his role as FBI Agent Dale Cooper, plus Lynch as FBI Regional Bureau Chief Gordon Cole.

Widely considered one of the most groundbreaking and influential broadcast series of all time, “TWIN PEAKS” followed the inhabitants of a quaint Northwestern town who were stunned after their homecoming queen, Laura Palmer, was shockingly murdered. The town’s sheriff welcomed the help of FBI agent Dale Cooper, who came to town to investigate the case. As Cooper conducted his search for Laura’s killer, the town’s secrets were gradually exposed. The mystery that ensued set off an eerie chain of events that plunged the inhabitants of Twin Peaks into a darker examination of their very existence. Twenty-five years later, the story continues…

Remember David Fincher’s The Game? Kidnap Solutions Wants to Make it the Real Deal

$

Okay, so this is an interesting one here. I got a press release with the subject line “Kidnap Solutions LLC | Live out Your Darkest Fantasies!” First of all, I never knew there was such a thing as “kidnap fantasies” and, secondly, is that something people would actually pay to experience?

Alright, getting back to the story, Kidnap Solutions LLC is apparently headed by Raymond T. Moody, who, per the press release, “…earned a degree in theater arts from UCLA Extension before launching his company in the high-stakes tourism market of Atlantic City.” Much like David Fincher’s The Game, Kidnap Solutions LLC say they will personalize each person’s kidnapping experience to suit their desires, up to and including torture. No, I’m not joking. That’s in the press release.

So why do this? They say that such immersive exposure therapy has been known to cure alcoholism, drug addiction, overeating, nicotine addiction, sex/love addiction, and other bad habits. I wonder if someone who can’t stop chewing their nails would be up for this… Oh, and the methods they’ll use during your kidnapping include restraints, gags, loud music, verbal abuse, sensory deprivation, no bathroom breaks, and, if requested, tasers and waterboarding.

There’s a website with a phone number that yours truly dialed, only to get a voicemail. I left a message (no address was given, so don’t worry about me) and we’ll see if anyone gets back to me. There’s also a very simple and laughable video on the website that you can check out if you feel so inclined.

Honestly, I don’t know what to make of all this. It’s absolutely absurd and the presentation is so basic and minimalistic that I feel like this is a ploy to market something else entirely. I just don’t know what that “else” is. I guess we’ll find out soon!

I’m Scared (Short, 2017)

Starring Gunnar Sizemore

Directed by Peter Levin

The artwork of Greg “Craola” Simkins is simply magnificent, no two ways around it. It’s wildly imaginative, delightfully surreal, and packed with vivid colors that give every image depth and majesty. It’s the kind of artwork that has wide appeal while being unique unto itself.

I’m not surprising anyone when I say that many filmmakers use art throughout history as the influence for their own visions. For example, the work of Hieronymus Bosch has been used as the basis for all sorts of ghastly cinematic images. So it comes as no surprise that someone would see Simkins’ work and decide to make a film based around those visuals.

Enter Director Pete Levin, who just released a new short titled I’m Scared, which was produced by Levin, Dan Levy, James Ingram. Based on the art of Simkins, the stop-motion short is essentially a child’s rhyming story come to life. Two siblings awake during the night and the older relays to the younger all the things that scare him or give him pause. As he describes them, they come to life in the bedroom, looming over the kids in grisly yet charming detail.

As the older brother’s story continues, the amount of villainous entities that seem to haunt him only grow, as though he is afraid of nearly everything, from sharks to robots to bullies to tigers and more. The variety of creatures and the gorgeous ways they’ve been brought to life absolutely delighted both my inner child and my adult horror-appreciating self. And I would be remiss if I were to neglect mentioning the wonderful narration by Gunnar Sizemore. It’s the kind of performance that every feature hopes to get from a child yet rarely does.

Apparently, I’m Scared took three years to complete, which seems excessive at first but becomes all too apparent when you see the level of detail that went into every single frame of this 5-minute offering. From the lighting to the bedspread to the toys on the ground to the levels of detail on every character, there isn’t a single item in this short that isn’t crafted with love and care.

I’m Scared is the kind of horror short that parents shouldn’t be afraid to show their children. Rather, it’s an affirmation that although there may be scary things that go bump in the night, there’s always someone or something there that will have your back.

The Endless:

Years after escaping a cult as teenagers, brothers Aaron and Justin return to their former home after receiving a mysterious message. While Aaron is quickly drawn back into the fold, Justin remains uneasy. However, neither can deny it when strange events begin happening that seem to mirror the cult’s unusual axioms. Following their Tribeca breakout, Resolution, Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead direct and star in another intensely original genre hybrid. With Tate Ellington, Callie Hernandez, James Jordan, and Lew Temple. Directed by Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, written by Justin Benson.

Sweet Virginia:

Jon Bernthal, Rosemarie DeWitt, Imogen Poots, Odessa Young, and a spectacular Christopher Abbott star in this gritty neo-Western with echoes of the early Coen Brothers: a burglary-homicide rattles the residents of a small Alaska town. Jamie Dagg’s sophomore feature is a haunting drama about the predator in each of us and the prices we pay to start over. Directed by Jamie Dagg, written by The China Brothers.

Devil’s Gate:

Struggling to overcome a recent professional tragedy, a tough-as-nails FBI agent (Amanda Schull) relocates to a small North Dakota town to investigate the disappearance of a local woman and her young son. The search leads to the missing woman’s husband’s (Milo Ventimiglia) secluded farm, on which answers, new mysteries, and God-fearing terrors await. Not to mention, something locked and caged down in the basement. With Shawn Ashmore, Bridget Regan, and Jonathan Frakes. Directed by Clay Staub, written by Peter Aperlo and Clay Staub.

Dumb: The Story of Big Brother Magazine:

Dumb: The Story of Big Brother Magazine charts the rise and fall of the irreverent, boundary-pushing “Big Brother Magazine,” whose taboo-breaking stunts and unapologetically crass humor spawned MTV’s “Jackass” and a generation of skaters. Featuring a trove of original footage and interviews with the magazine’s major players, Dumb celebrates the lowbrow legacy of this touchstone of 90’s counterculture. With Johnny Knoxville, Spike Jonze, Steve Rocco, Bam Margera, Steve-O, Tony Hawk, and Chad Muska. A Hulu release. Directed by Patrick O’Dell.

Hounds of Love:

Dark forces lurk behind the sunny façade of an unassuming Australian suburb in Ben Young’s stylish directorial debut. This ‘80s-set true crime thriller follows 17-year-old Vicki on the night she’s abducted by a disturbed couple. While bound to a bed inside of the kidnappers’ home and subjected to psychological and physical torture, Vicki must find a way to drive a wedge between her unhinged captors and escape by any means necessary. With Emma Booth, Ashleigh Cummings, Stephen Curry, Susie Porter, Damian de Montemas, and Harrison Gilbertson. A Gunpowder & Sky release. Presented in partnership with Venice Days. Directed and written by Ben Young.

Psychopaths

Over the course of one excessively blood-soaked night, multiple serial killers’ paths cross, leaving a trail of bodies and begging the question: Which psychopath will live to see morning? One of the most exciting and unclassifiable new voices in indie horror, Mickey Keating delivers his wildest ride yet with this ultra-stylish and uber-violent descent into madness. With Ashley Bell, James Landry Hébert, Mark Kassen, Angela Trimbur, Larry Fessenden, Jeremy Gardner, and Sam Zimmerman. Directed and written by Mickey Keating.

Super Dark Times:

Teenagers Zach and Josh have been best friends their whole lives, but when a gruesome accident leads to a cover-up, the secret drives a wedge between them and propels them down a rabbit hole of escalating paranoia and violence in Kevin Phillips’ atmospheric ‘90s-set mystery-thriller. With Owen Campbell, Charlie Tahan, Elizabeth Cappuccino, Max Talisman, Sawyer Barth, and Amy Hargreaves. Directed by Kevin Phillips, written by Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski.

Tilt:

There’s something off about Joe. Although his pregnant girlfriend, Joanne, supports him as he devotes more and more time to his passion project, a sprawling documentary about America’s “golden age,” both the film and Joe are becoming increasingly unhinged. Joanne is growing worried about Joseph’s odd behavior… but not as worried as she should be. With Joseph Cross, Alexia Rasmussen, Kelvin Yu, Jessy Hodges, and CS Lee. Directed by Kasra Farahani, written by Jason O’Leary and  Kasra Farahani.

Thumper:

This suspenseful crime drama follows Kat Carter (Eliza Taylor), the troubled new girl in a school harboring a deep secret. When she attracts the attention of the volatile gang leader Wyatt (a menacing Pablo Schreiber), Kat’s own hidden secrets threaten to put her life in danger. Executive produced by Cary Fukunaga, the film features raw supporting turns from Lena Headey, Daniel Webber, Ben Feldman, and Grant Harvey. Directed and written by Jordan Ross.

My Friend Dahmer:

Before Jeffrey Dahmer became one of the most notorious serial killers of all time, he was a teenage loner. Conducting grisly experiments in a makeshift backyard lab, Jeff was invisible to most, until his increasingly bizarre behavior unexpectedly attracted friends. Based on the cult graphic novel, My Friend Dahmer chronicles the origins of the man, the monster…the high school senior. With Ross Lynch, Anne Heche, Dallas Roberts, Alex Wolff, Tommy Nelson, and Vincent Kartheiser. Directed and written by Marc Meyers.

Pilgrimage:

In 13th-century Ireland, a cadre of monks travel through the war-torn countryside on a mission to bring their land’s most sacred relic to Rome. But other forces are gaining on them, as the true significance of the relic becomes dangerously apparent. A period drama crossed with an action/adventure road movie, Pilgrimage delivers a profound lesson on religious fervor and the savagery of soldiers with a cause. With Tom Holland, Richard Armitage, Jon Bernthal, John Lynch, Stanley Weber. Directed by Brendan Muldowney, written by Jamie Hannigan.
