We would never usually condone police brutality, but with director Adam Rifkin’s 1993 classic Psycho Cop Returns finally being available on Blu-ray courtesy of Vinegar Syndrome, we’re prepared to wallow in it.

From the Press Release:
Officer Joe Vickers (Robert R. Shafer) is the meanest and deadliest cop in LA, leaving behind a never-ending stream of bloodied bodies in the name of justice. The fact that he also happens to be a Satan-worshiping member of the undead doesn’t help much either.

After overhearing some office workers discussing a secret drug- and sex-filled after-hours party they’re planning to host that night, Vickers decides to take the law into his own hands, disposing of the rabble-rousers in a series of gruesome ways. Will the hapless partiers be able to outsmart and survive his brutal tactics before the night is through?

Outrageously gory, nudity-filled, and bitingly funny, director Adam Rifkin’s (Detroit Rock City) no-holds-barred slasher/comedy classic PSYCHO COP RETURNS moves gleefully between blood-drenched killings and sex comedy antics, resulting in a 90s exploitation gem unlike any other. Talk about fighting the odds! Just about everyone was sure that A&E’s “Bates Motel” would be a colossal flop, but instead we got one of the best adaptations we’ve seen with one of the best casts ever assembled on the small screen.  If both Vera Farmiga and Freddie Highmore aren’t included in this year’s Emmy nominations, there simply is no justice in this world.

But before the accolades for the show’s final season start rolling in, following last night’s incredible finale Episode 5.10, “The Cord,” the network has released a recap video that enables you to catch up on the events that transpired in under five minutes.

We’d just like to take a moment to thank everyone involved with the show – both in front of and behind the camera. It was an incredibly fun, emotional ride; and we couldn’t have been more pleased with the way things turned out for everyone (although we’re still a bit verklempt about the outcome for uber badass Alex Romero).

“Bates Motel” stars Vera Farmiga as Norma Bates, Freddie Highmore as Norman, Max Thieriot as Dylan, Olivia Cooke as Emma, and Nestor Carbonell as the aforementioned Romero. The series is produced by Universal Television for A&E Network. Kerry Ehrin and Carlton Cuse serve as executive producers for Cuse Productions and Kerry Ehrin Productions. Tucker Gates, Vera Farmiga, and Tom Szentgyorgyi also serve as executive producers on the series.

If you ever wanted to know what goes on behind the scenes of a movie called Evil Bong 666, then get ready to see debauchery, nudity, and loads of talk about marijuana. After all, one would expect it to kinda come with the territory but it’s good to know that expectations and reality are aligned.

The below BTS video focuses on actress Claire Hudgins, who explains what being a “Sexy Demon” in the film is all about. Hudgins is also a porn star (you can find her on your own, ya bunch o’ pervs!) and she explains that she wants to break into mainstream films. If you think this is a strange thing to bring up, the description of the BTS video reads:

The struggle is real! See the true story of a porn actress trying to break into mainstream film. On the set of Full Moon’s Evil Bong 666, hard-working and talented Claire Hudgins does all she can to prove she is equal to the challenge before her. But will she succeed, or will the fast life of an adult film star prove too much for even this disciplined young starlet?

Evil Bong 666 stars Mindy Robinson, Sonny Carl Davis, Robin Sydney, Jessica Morris, The Don, Orson Chaplin, Caleb Hurst, Tonya Kay, Jonathan Katz, Samantha McGee, Megan Sage, and Michelle Mais as the voice of Ebee.

Synopsis:
The bong is BACK. Back from Hell, that is! Everyone’s favorite iconic and evil bong, Eebee, returns in the new, hellaciously dark comedy from Full Moon Features, and she’s bringing sexy demons, stoner creatures, and something too frightening to speak of until you see the movie.

When a brutal blood sacrifice opens up a portal to Hell, Eebee and the Ginger Dead Man are returned to Earth. The already evil Ginger Dead Man has been driven even more insane by his recent trip to Hell, and unless someone can stop his murderous cookie-cutting rampage, he will ruin Eebee’s latest plans for world domination.

Please Allow Let Me Introduce You to The Great Discord

As you’ve probably noticed, one of the topics I cover here on Dread Central is music. For as much of a horror fan as I am, I may be a bigger fan of music. From a very young age, I was always fascinated by how music had the ability to make me feel a swath of emotions. And not just a pop song making me happy or a ballad making me sad. I experienced nostalgia, envy, hope, ecstasy, rage, desperation, and so much more, all through a wide variety of genres, melodies, and songs. I was never ashamed that my playlist, if put on shuffle, might jump from Spice Girls to Beethoven to Weird Al to Metallica to Wu-Tang Clan to Danny Elfman to Chicane to Opeth to Johnny Cash to Edith Piaf and so on and so forth. Listening to music has always been an active experience for me, never a passive one. When people tell me that they want me to listen to a song that they are in love with, I do my best to shut out the world and give that song my full attention because it’s what my friend, and the song, deserve.

Anyways, let me get to the point of this post, which is to introduce you to Swedish “progressive death pop” (they’re metal, to be clear) band The Great Discord. In 2015, they released their debut album Duende, which I’ve listened to easily 100 times since it came out. It’s one of those releases that feels like you’re listening to a painting, each playthrough unveiling another layer that went previously unseen. Tracks like “Woe” and “Ephemeral” brilliantly illustrate how metal can be beautiful, almost heartachingly so. Meanwhile, “Angra Mainyu” and “A Discordant Call” shimmer with airs of dark mystery, parts of them strangely frightening.

I bring The Great Discord up because they’ve recently announced that their new album, The Rabbit Hole, will be coming out in the coming months. While they haven’t given a concrete release date, they have released their first single in the form of “Darkest Day”, which you can listen to below.

What makes this album so exciting for me, aside from the fact that it’s a new album from The Great Discord (reason enough), is that supposedly it’s heavily influenced by Alice in Wonderland. As the band puts it, “…this album is our take and our dark twist on a famous story by Lewis Carroll.” Being that Alice is a story that is near and dear to my heart, this basically means the album falls into the “must-have” category of my life.

Since I’m such a fan and since they’re nowhere near as big as they deserve to be, I’ve written this piece in the hopes that you’ll give them a chance. Listen to “Darkest Day” below and, if you like it, check out their other stuff. If you’re into thought-provoking, challenging, and fascinating music, I assure you that you will not be disappointed.

Life, uh…finds a way. A way to bring Jeff Goldblum back into the Jurassic Park franchise, that is!

It’s been confirmed by THR that the actor who played Dr. Ian Malcolm in the first two films of the franchise will be reprising his role in J.A. Bayona’s upcoming sequel Jurassic World 2. There’s no word on how large his role will be in the film but I’m happy with any amount!

Chris Pratt stars alongside Bryce Dallas Howard, Toby Jones, Justice Smith, Geraldine Chaplin, Ted Levine, Rafe Spall, James Cromwell, and Daniella Pineda. J.A. Bayona is on board to direct with Frank Marshall producing along with Pat Crowley and Belén Atienza.

Colin Trevorrow, who helmed Jurassic World, penned the script with his writing partner, Derek Connolly. Trevorrow will also executive produce with Steven Spielberg. VP of production Sara Scott is overseeing production on behalf of Universal.

Universal has set June 22nd, 2018, as the release date.

A new trailer for the shark survival horror/thriller 47 Meters Down has been released and can be seen here. I warn anyone who wants to really enjoy the movie to avoid this as it’s a little bit more spoiler-y than most trailers. Therefore, exercise caution.

Directed by Johannes Roberts (The Other Side of the Door), the underwater thriller stars Mandy Moore (“This Is Us,” A Walk to Remember), Claire Holt (“The Vampire Diaries,” “The Originals”), Yani Gellman (“Pretty Little Liars,” “The Young and The Restless”), and Matthew Modine (Full Metal Jacket, The Dark Knight Rises).

47 Meters Down comes out June 16th.

Synopsis:
On the rebound after a devastating break-up, Lisa (Mandy Moore) is ready for adventure while on vacation in Mexico. Even still, she needs a little extra persuasion when her daring sister Kate (Claire Holt) suggests they go shark diving with some locals. Once underwater in a protective cage, Lisa and Kate catch a once in a lifetime, face-to-face look at majestic Great Whites. But when their worst fears are realized and the cage breaks away from their boat, they find themselves plummeting to the bottom of the seabed, too deep to radio for help without making themselves vulnerable to the savage sharks, their oxygen supplies rapidly dwindling.

Latefox Pictures is currently gearing up for this year’s release of Death on Scenic Drive, and Dread Central has been given the first exclusive look at three new posters for the film.

The movie is helmed by Canadian director Gabriel Carrer, whose previous film The Demolisher, released by Raven Banner Entertainment, won the Silver Audience Award at the Fantasia Film Festival in Montreal in 2015.

Carrer’s new surreal effort follows the same type of madness when a young woman (Stephanie Ash) is consumed by an entity that transforms her into a bloodthirsty version of death. This new unnerving sense of identity changes her as she begins a nightmarish path of gruesome violence against a family and local farmer (Ry Barrett).

Death on Scenic Drive is produced by Latefox Pictures and Smak Studios based in Toronto, Canada. The film is finished, and audiences can expect to see death across their screens fairly soon.

Death on Scenic Drive, which was also written by Carrer, unravels over the course of three nightmarish days during the cold winter months at a secluded countryside home. It boasts special make-up effects by The Butcher Shop FX Studio (Bed of the Dead); incorporates a tense, gripping score by Starsky Partridge, who was the lead sound designer for the popular video game Unreal Tournament; and was shot by cinematographer and producer Scott McIntyre.

Ian Pfaff is one helluva creative individual. On top having been a director at Funny or Die and Nickelodeon, it turns out that he may very well be Father of the Year thanks to the way he converted his kids’ toy cars into guzzoline-sucking monstrosities of the best kind!

Pfaff took a Little Tikes car – y’know, one of those small cars that kids can get into and pedal around – and proceeded to remodel it into a child’s version of something that would look perfectly at home in Mad Max: Fury Road. However, he didn’t do this once. Nope, he did it twice, one for each of his kids! The end result are adorable little vehicles that embrace the steampunk/post-apocalyptic visual style and make his kids look like wasteland survivors!

Check out photos of the kids and their new rides below!

Cheers to Buzzfeed.

Burt Gummer himself (Michael Gross) took to Facebook to announce that Universal Studios has set a tentative release date of January 30, 2018 for Tremors 6. Plenty of time to lube up the old ass blasters.

About Tremors 6:
Intrepid creature hunter Burt Gummer and his son, Travis, find themselves in a remote hotbed of giant man-eating worms in the newest action-packed entry in the wildly popular Tremors franchise. Currently in production in Cape Town, South Africa, this outrageous horror comedy finds the pair at a remote research station where they come under attack by what Burt fears could be weaponized Graboids.

Tremors 6 will be released on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital HD in 2018 from Universal 1440 Entertainment, a production entity of Universal Pictures Home Entertainment.

“This is going to be the craziest, most over-the-top movie in the Tremors saga to date,” said Glenn Ross, general manager and executive vice president, Universal 1440 Entertainment. “It takes the franchise’s signature combination of suspense, action, and humor to new explosive heights.”

Michael Gross (“Family Ties,” Tremors franchise) and Jamie Kennedy (“The Cleveland Show,” Scream franchise) return as Burt Gummer and Travis Welker, joined by franchise newcomers Tanya van Graan (Death Race: Inferno, Zulu), Rob van Vuuren (Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom), and Greg Kriek (Momentum).

Burt Gummer (Michael Gross) and his son, Travis Welker (Jamie Kennedy), find themselves up to their ears in Graboids and Ass-Blasters when they head to Canada to investigate a series of deadly giant-worm attacks. Arriving at a remote research facility in the Arctic tundra, Burt begins to suspect that Graboids are secretly being weaponized, but before he can prove his theory, he is sidelined by Graboid venom. With just 48 hours to live, the only hope is to create an antidote from fresh venom — but to do that, someone will have to figure out how to milk a Graboid!

Ridley Scott Doesn’t Think Neill Blomkamp’s Alien Sequel Will Ever See the Light

Remember back when Neill Blomkamp was talking about making Alien 5, a direct sequel to Aliens, with Sigourney Weaver and Michael Biehn? The plan was to finish Ripley’s tale. Now it sounds like the closest we’ll ever come to that is the recent Stephen Colbert skit!

According to French outlet Allocine, Scott had the following to say about Blomkamp’s sequel…

I think [the project] will never see the light [of day],” he replied after explaining that the project was far less advanced than previously thought. “There was never a scenario, just an idea that evolved into a pitch of ten pages. I had to participate as a producer, but it did not go any further because Fox decided that [they] did not want to do it.

Thanks to AVP Galaxy for the head’s up!

Well… there goes that. On the bright side, Alien: Covenant opens on May 19th!
