Slashed! The MusicalStarring Sean Keller, Feyna Sanchez, Curt Bonnem, Kristyn Chalker, Acquah Dansoh, Timothy Kopacz, Mary O’Neil, Fayna Sanchez, Elissa Wagner, Clarke Wolfe

Directed by Chelsea Stardust

“I chop and I chop, and they keep on fuuucking…!” – Little Peetie Jergins

With seven songs and seven kills, Slashed! The Musical is short and to the point (and it’s a very pointy-point, rife with knives, machetes, and a tomahawk). The fable follows the vengeful spirit of Little Peetie Jergins (Sean Keller, who also did the book, music and lyrics) as he picks off a new batch of camp counselors one by one (or in twos, if they’re “fuuuucking!”).

Peetie died a fiery death at “Camp Doom” decades ago, and he’s become the stuff of legend. As the show opens, we meet Looney Lucy (Feyna Sanchez), a feral old woman who lurks in the woods and whose sole purpose is to warn folks about Peetie. Peetie doesn’t like camp counselors in particular, and he likes them even less when they smoke, drink, loiter, and… worst of all… have sex. Set in 1983 against a backdrop of pup tents and a cold camp fire, the counselors arrive, sing, dance, and die. We have various (and hilarious) archetypes: Preppie Couple, Bi-Gal, The Virgin, Dumb Jock, The Cheerleader, Final Girl, etc.

The cast is excellent – kudos to Curt Bonnem, Kristyn Chalker, Acquah Dansoh, Timothy Kopacz, Mary O’Neil, Fayna Sanchez, Elissa Wagner and Clarke Wolfe. Keller, donning a mask made of twigs and festering burns, is a standout as the avenging apparition. The dances (choreographed Rebekah McKendry) are adorably clunky and in perfect alignment with the era and genre. While the small stage is sparsely decorated, there’s great attention to detail in the characters’ costumes. One wears an “I Shot JR” tee under suspenders; another has a fanny-pack and a sweater over his shoulders; and there’s the obligatory lace fingerless gloves, roller-skates, and half-shirts. It’s deftly-directed by Chelsea Stardust, who is best-known for her super-short horror films. (Maybe that’s why the play’s runtime is so brief; that’s my only gripe – I wanted more!)

Successfully fan-funded earlier this year, Slashed! is a killer love-letter to the classic summer camp slasher subgenre and it stands on par with other spoof shows I’ve seen, like Silence! The Musical and Exorcistic: An Exorcist Rock Musical Parody.

Slashed! The Musical is running June 4th through June 23rd at the Hollywood Fringe Festival in Los Angeles. The show is sold out, but you can get cast album here!

It has been 14 years since we last had a chance to experience the world of Beyond Good & Evil. That’s some Duke Nukem: Forever shit right there. Though only a stand along game, Beyond Good & Evil is a game that fans have been begging for a sequel. And for good reason. The colorful, creative world was rich and alive, full of memorable characters and innovative mechanics. Ubisoft surprised me with their Transference trailer, but in dramatic form they saved their best for last and floored me with the long awaited announcement of Beyond Good & Evil 2.

Beyond Good and Evil 2: E3 2017 Official Announcement Trailer | Ubisoft [US]:
Journey to System 3, for the prequel to one of Ubisoft’s most beloved games! Fight alongside unforgettable characters in a stunning new solar system, as you struggle for freedom and the right to determine your own fate among the stars. Play the adventure by yourself or with friends in a vast and seamless online playground.

Beyond Good and Evil 2 is the spiritual successor to the cult classic, a prequel that will transport players into a profoundly multicultural world, capturing the spirit of the original with grandiose decors and intense dramas that play out across a vast universe. Through the Space Monkey Program, Ubisoft Montpellier will be developing the game alongside its community of fans.

System 3 has become the center of interstellar trade and colonization in the Milky Way of the 24th century, thanks to the creation of Hybrid slaves. While private enterprises fight over resources and power, the first colonists weave together the rich and diverse spiritual and cultural heritages of Old Earth to give meaning to their existence. In this new era of piracy, we will rise from lowly pirate to legendary captain at the helm of massive star-faring vessels, adventuring alongside crews of colorful characters to fight for freedom and the right to determine our own fate among the stars!

Fans of Killing Floor 2 should be excited to hear some news regarding the game at E3.

From the Press Release:
Limited-Time Event Gives Players New Skins, a New Map, New Items, and Fun New Ways To Play Killing Floor 2 That Will Even Earn Participants Special In-Game Goodies; Also Coming to PS4 this Summer

Live from the stage at today’s PC Gaming Show during the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), Tripwire Interactive Creative Director Bill Munk revealed the first big limited-time seasonal event for the hit survival shooter KILLING FLOOR 2. The Summer Sideshow will be hitting PC players’ update queues tomorrow, June 13 at 1:00PM Eastern Time, delivering tons of new content, new gameplay objectives and more over the course of the event, which ends July 11. The Summer Sideshow is also due to debut for the first time on PlayStation 4 later this Summer.

To kick off the Summer Sideshow and celebrate KILLING FLOOR 2’s very first seasonal event – a popular feature amongst fans of the first KILLING FLOOR – Tripwire Interactive is giving fans a Free Week of the game on Steam starting June 13, along with a 50% off sale running concurrently.

Check out the new KILLING FLOOR 2 Summer Sideshow trailer here

The Summer Sideshow introduces a host of new content to KILLING FLOOR 2 and new ways to play during the one-month course of its event. The centerpiece of that new content is a new circus-themed map, complete with outrageous circus freak zeds that make scary clowns look like cute cuddly puppies. There will be a new set of specific objectives for this map, entitled “The Tragic Kingdom”, which upon completion will unlock the exclusive Sideshow Hazmat Suit (good for keeping clown blood-stained cotton candy from getting stuck to players). The Tragic Kingdom is a scary place, so players will have to make good use of the two new weapons included in the update: the HZ12 Shotgun is for the Support Perk only and the Centerfire Lever Action is primarily for Sharpshooter and Multi-Perk with Gunslinger.

There will be plenty of other cosmetic items to unlock as well; over 50 different items obtainable by earning tickets during normal gameplay that can be exchanged for things like new face paints. There will be some paid cosmetic DLC as well, that players can purchase through the shop.

For more ongoing excitement during the Summer Sideshow event, tune in for the Weekly Outbreak, which will present a brand new game mode every week for KILLING FLOOR 2 players to enjoy and master. More news on this coming soon.

Tripwire Interactive is committed to listening and engaging with their fans for feedback and encourages players to post their feedback in the Official KILLING FLOOR 2 Forums and be sure to join the Official KILLING FLOOR 2 Game Group on Steam.

In KILLING FLOOR 2, players descend into continental Europe where the outbreak caused by Horzine Biotech’s failed experiment has quickly spread and gained unstoppable momentum, essentially paralyzing the European Union— Just one month after the events in the original KILLING FLOOR, the specimen clones are everywhere and civilization is in disarray; communications have failed, governments have collapsed, and military forces have been systematically eradicated. The people of Europe know survival and self-preservation too well and lucky survivors have gone into hiding.

Not all have given up hope though… A group of civilians and mercenaries have banded together to combat the outbreak and established privately funded operation bases across Europe. Upon tracking specimen clone outbreaks, players will descend into zed-laden hot zones and exterminate them.

Exclusive: For Howard Ford Directing Never Let Go Was a Personal and Terrifying Experience

$

We’ve all heard stories about directors and stars saying that a film had a personal meaning to them. For many of these stories, it’s something minor, something that seems so incidental as to be almost negligible. But when it comes to Never Let Go, which follows a single mother as she searches for her abducted child in a foreign city, director/producer Howard J. Ford (The Dead, The Dead 2: India) has a connection that is all too real and all too terrifying.

Below is an exclusive clip where he tells of the time that his son nearly drowned in a pool and the thoughts that went through his head. While the video cuts off before we get a resolution, Ford assures us that his son is, thankfully, alive and well. But it was this experience that inspired him to make Never Let Go.

The award-winning Never Let Go stars Angela Dixon and was shot on location in Morocco and Spain. It is out now on DVD.

Synopsis:
A single mother desperately searches for her missing child in a beautiful, but unfamiliar land, following an apparent abduction. Trusting no one, and stopping at nothing, as she weaves her way through the murky backstreets and barren landscapes, now implicated in the murder of a seemingly innocent man, her connections back in the US begin to reveal that there is much more at stake than first meets the eye.

Blood Hunters Getting a Day and Date Release in July

Fresh from its Audience Award-winning presentation at Fright Night Theatre Film Festival, Blood Hunters, directed by Tricia Lee, will have a theatrical run at the Carlton Cinema in Toronto, Ontario, starting July 7, 2017, and a one-night screening as part of the DedFemme Screening Series at the Metro Cinema in Edmonton, Alberta, on the same day.

The film is also coming out on DVD, VOD, and all digital platforms in Canada and the USA on July 4, 2017.

From the Press Release:
Blood Hunters (review) is the terrifying new horror film from director Tricia Lee and Film Monkey Productions. Lee, one of the very few successful female directors in the genre, made a splash on the scene with her first feature, Clean Break, and her second, Silent Retreat. Since the long-time team of Tricia Lee and writer Corey Brown won Best Canadian Feature at the Toronto After Dark Film Festival, they have been working on the script, formerly titled One Drop, for their new horror creature feature and are excited to see their vision become a reality.

In order to bring her chilling vision to life, Lee and casting director Kristen Henderson assembled a fantastic cast, comprised of:

· Lara Gilchrist (“Battlestar Galactica,” Defying Gravity)
· Benjamin Arthur (Less Than Kind, Working the Engels)
· Torri Higginson (“Stargate: Atlantis,” This Life)
· Mark Taylor (Flashpoint, Instant Star)
· Julian Richings (“Orphan Black,” “Supernatural:)
· Peter Blankenstein (The Human Centipede 1-3)

These talented actors join forces to battle a nightmare beyond the reaches of science. In Blood Hunters, science is pitted against religion in a suspenseful script that is visually, emotionally, and intellectually stimulating.

With SPFX guru Shaun Hunter creating gruesome prosthetics and producer Chris Luckhardt (Silent Retreat, Tru Love) and executive producers Brigitte Kingsley (The Dark Rising Franchise, Night Cries) and Michael Baker (Backcountry, Nostrum), this project was selected to attend the Frontieres Genre Co-Production Market in Brussels, Belgium, which coincided with the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival. Frontieres later presented the film during the Cannes Marche du Film as part of Frontieres Goes to Cannes.

Given all the recent news about the struggles of female filmmakers, nowhere is this more evident than in the horror genre. The tiny handful of women helming genre films is no doubt a contributing factor to why most horror screenplays are told from the male perspective, despite the fact that a solid 50 percent of horror audiences are female. Director Lee is keenly aware of this.

“The genre traditionally focuses on the three B’s: beasts, blood, and boobs. I want to bring something different. I want to introduce a new alphabet,” she attested in a gentle voice that should not ever be taken for granted because it belies her delight in the macabre.

What Lee brings is emotion, without sacrificing beasts and blood. She entertainments her audiences so they enjoy a broader spectrum of emotions: “When people watch horror films, their emotions are opened up, they’re scared, and they’re allowing themselves to feel. I always bring a dramatic element. I want to elicit tears. I want to go deeper and draw a strong connection between the audience and the characters.”

Synopsis:
Blood Hunters tells the story of a single mother who wakes up in the basement of a medical facility only to discover that everyone around her is dead and she is somehow nine months pregnant. As she struggles to escape, she encounters other survivors, each with their own secret. Together they must unlock the mysteries of the facility, which will take them to the brink of death and beyond.

The Russo Brothers Adapting the Horror Video Game Little Nightmares For TV

The horror video game Little Nightmares has drawn the attention of hit directors the Russo Brothers (Captain America: Civil War, Captain America: Winter Soldier), who are planning on adapting the story into a TV series. The duo will be executive producers alongside Dmitri M. Johnson and Stephan Bugaj of DJ2 Entertainment, the team behind the recently announced We Happy Few. The plan is to have The Nightmare Before Christmas and Coraline director Henry Selick to helm the pilot and perhaps several more episodes, per THR.

The site describes the story: “The game follows a 9-year old girl named Six who finds herself trapped on the bottom of a terror-filled ship named the Maw. With hunger and the depths one goes to satiate that hunger as the themes, the storyline follows Six as she tries to escape the ship while evading capture and death at the hands of characters named the Janitor, the Twin Chefs and the Lady.

There’s no word on when this will enter production but since they’re already locking down potential directors, I’m guessing it’s a priority project.

Haha, yeaaaaaaaah son. You thought I would go with a “bear” pun, didn’t you? Well surprise, I went with the wolf pun! For those of you confused (which should be most of you, or else why are you reading this?), the biggest horror news coming out of the Playstation E3 Showcase was an extensive gameplay demo for the upcoming Days Gone. We first got to see a glimpse of Days Gone at last year’s Playstation E3 Showcase, and this year we get to see even more of the game come together with open world elements, stealth mechanics, diverse problem solving, and lots of zombies. Oh, but not just people zombies. We got animal zombies, too!

Days Gone – PS4 Stage Demo | E3 2017:
Days Gone is an open-world action game set in the beautiful, high-desert of the Pacific Northwest two years after a pandemic has transformed the world.

At this year’s PlayStation Media Showcase, we’ve unveiled a new gameplay demo that offers a more intimate glimpse into Deacon’s life as a mercenary in a world where almost everything wants to kill him.

If there wasn’t a new God of War trailer at this year’s E3, I would have eaten my own eyeballs. The flagship series spawned by legendary game designer David Jaffe has become a staple of any self-respecting gamer’s library. I have bought PS2s for friends just so that they can play it. With a change in setting, tone, mechanics, iconic weaponry, and pantheon, I was wondering how this new God of War would stack up. To be fair, all it really needs to be God of War is Kratos, intense combat, and insane brutality. From what we’ve now seen, I’d say it delivers in spades.

God of War – Be A Warrior: PS4 Gameplay Trailer | E3 2017:
From Santa Monica Studio and creative director Cory Barlog comes a new beginning for one of gaming’s most recognizable icons. Living as a man outside the shadow of the gods, Kratos must adapt to unfamiliar lands, unexpected threats, and a second chance at being a father. Together with his son Atreus, the pair will venture into the brutal Norse wilds and fight to fulfill a deeply personal quest.

Alright, there’s not a lot we know about The Inpatient so far. The trailer doesn’t show much, other than that this is definitely horror. Set in the Blackwood Sanatorium, you play as an amnesiac attempting to reclaim his memories. What’s that you say? Does the Blackwood Sanatorium sound a bit familiar? We’ll you’d be right, as this game serves as a prequel to Supermassive Games’ previous Playstation exclusive, Until Dawn. How the hell does a VR game set in the 60’s have to do with Until Dawn? I have no idea, but I’m guessing that their other stealthily announced title, Hidden Agenda, might have something to do with it. Check back in soon for more on that.

There are two kinds of people on this planet: people that like Quantic Dream games, and people who like to shit on brownies. I’m not even being that sarcastic. Every time I hear a complaint about Heavy Rain or Beyond: Two Souls, it’s always the same old, “<i>you know you could put your controller down and nothing would happen, right? Not all of your decisions REALLY matter</i>.” Thanks, captain buzzkill. Let me stop enjoying the incredibly storytelling and excellent tension because you peaked too far behind the curtain.

Now I may have to put my foot in my mouth later, as even I will admit the scope of Detroit: Become Human is ambitious. We all are aware of games that promise us that our choices matter, and more so of the bitter taste of betrayal when they don’t deliver. Well, the new trailer seeks to assuage our fears by showing us a new, even more robust scenario. I must say, if it all comes together, Detroit: Become Human might be an absolute game changer.

Man, I was wondering when I’d get more Horizon Zero Dawn. The game is only a few months old, but is the kind of open world sandbox just begging for more content. I reviewed the game back when it came out, and judging by my score you can tell that I quite enjoyed the prehistoric-action-girl-on-robot-dinosaur violence. Zero Dawn is one of those rare examples of an innovative new AAA IP that really works, delivering in a big way for fans. While there aren’t a lot of details for the new DLC, titled The Frozen Wilds, let’s hope its even bigger and badder than the original.

As I’m writing this, it has been seven hours since the PlayStation E3 Showcase concluded. A bit of a spoiler for my future opinion on which company won, but I felt the show was a dud. I’ve attended the PlayStation show for the last four years, and this is easily the time I felt the least excited walking out of the theater. Almost everything I saw that I cared about was a carryover from last year, just showing us how much more finished God of War and Days Gone were. I want new IPs, damn it! I appreciate that you are remaking Shadow of the Colossus, but I want a new one!

Which is why it’s so odd that hours after the show wrapped up, there are still new trailers emerging on the Playstation YouTube page. One such is for Hidden Agenda, a social/adventure game horror hybrid meant to be played on your couch. This game looks truly innovative, and I cannot fathom why it wasn’t part of their main show. What’s even stranger is that The Inpatient was given stage time, even though both titles are under development by Supermassive Games. You might remember Supermassive Games from their previous Playstations exclusive, Until Dawn.  Now it’s too early to speculate, but I’m going to just guess the three are related. If I’m right, call me an oracle later.

Don’t Knock Twice (2017)

Dont Knock twiceStarring Ania Marson, Katee Sackhoff, Jordan Bolger, Richard Mylan

Directed by Caradog W. James

“Knock once to wake her from her bed, twice to raise her from the dead.” – local legend

Murderous Mary Aminov (Ania Marson) is a vindictive, gnarled witch-crone who snatches and consumes any kid fool enough to come to her door and try two knocks. This humdrum horror movie tries to create a new villain, but winds up treading old tropes. Still, there are a few things about Don’t Knock Twice that save it from the scrapheap.

The story follows Jess (Katee Sackhoff), an ex-addict who has been working to rebuild her life as well as her relationship with her estranged and bitter teenage daughter, Chloe (Lucy Boynton). Jess, now an admired sculptor, remarried and living in a large and lovely home, sends for Chloe in hopes that the two can reconcile. But the doubting daughter is not buying it: she just can’t trust Jess. But when her boyfriend Danny (Jordan Bolger) falls victim to the supernatural spinster, Chloe changes her tunes and seeks shelter with Jess and new stepdad Ben (Richard Mylan).

In addition to the personal strife between mom and teen, there’s the problem no one anticipated: Mary Aminov had use any door to wreak her otherworldly havoc… and there are lots of doors in Jess and Ben’s big house! There are some decent moments of suspense and dread here, once the horror gets underway – creaky hinges, shadowy figures, and things that go bump in the night – but director Caradog W. James is just going through the motions.

Luckily, Sackhoff and Boynton do not. Each gives their all to their paper-thin characters, puffing up their personalities as best they can. There are some histrionic hissy fits on the domestic side of things, then a believable mother-daughter chemistry as the deadly demon tries to divide and conquer. Pooneh Hajimohammadi is also quite good as Tira, one of Jess’s models who just happens to know an awful lot about the legend of Mary Aminov.

Cherry-picking from more substantive and stylish supernatural spookers, Don’t Knock Twice is reminiscent of Candyman, Oculus, Blair Witch, and several others – right down to the standard-issue twist ending. Still, if you enjoy the subject matter and the cast, it’s worth one knock.

Get Zapped to Life By the Flatliners Trailer

The first trailer for Sony’s Flatliners remake has arrived! Based on the 1990 sci-fi horror/thriller, the film follows a group of research students who purposefully die and get brought back to life in order to see if they can experience a taste of the afterlife. Their actions, however, have consequences and they each begin to see things that shouldn’t, that COULDN’T be real…

While the movie looks very polished, I’m not getting a sense of anything original being done with the story that we were given nearly 30 years ago. Plus, did the trailer really end with the cliché “woman being dragged down a hallway while screaming” shot? Blech.

Flatliners is being directed by Niels Arden Oplev (Sweden’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, TV’s “Mr. Robot”) from a script by Ben Ripley (Source Code). It stars Ellen Page, Diego Luna, Nina Dobrev, James Norton, Kiersey Clemons, and Kiefer Sutherland and comes out September 29th.

Synopsis:
In Flatliners, five medical students, obsessed by the mystery of what lies beyond the confines of life, embark on a daring and dangerous experiment: by stopping their hearts for short periods of time, each triggers a near-death experience – giving them a firsthand account of the afterlife. But as their experiments become increasingly dangerous, they are each haunted by the sins of their pasts, brought on by the paranormal consequences of trespassing to the other side.

When you think of Dungeons & Dragons, dinosaurs aren’t usually the first things to come to mind. I mean, it’s supposed to be about flying, mythological, fire-breathing reptiles, not long extinct real-life reptiles. Sure, they’ve appeared in D&D in the past, but the focus has usually been on the, y’know, dragons.

Either way, dinosaurs will be featured prominently in D&D’s upcoming adventure, Tomb of Annihilation, which hits stores on 19 September for $49.95. Set in the continent of Chult, a rarely explored region in the in the Forgotten Realms world, Tomb of Annihilation will feature everything from dinosaurs to zombies, to zombie dinosaurs. And yes, there will even be dinosaur street racing, because why the hell not?

D&D’s Chris Perkins discusses the new adventure in the following interview, with more details on the D&D website.

In addition to the game book described above, the Forgotten Realms MMORPG Neverwinter from publisher Perfect World and developer Cryptic Studios will be adding a Tomb of Annihilation expansion, which hits July 25 and consoles at a later date. You can get some T-Rex action from the first trailer below.

About the Tomb of Annihilation Game Book
Dare to defy death in this adventure for the world’s greatest roleplaying game.

The talk of the streets and taverns has all been about the so-called death curse: a wasting disease afflicting everyone who’s ever been raised from the dead. Victims grow thinner and weaker each day, slowly but steadily sliding toward the death they once denied.

When they finally succumb, they can’t be raised—and neither can anyone else, regardless of whether they’ve ever received that miracle in the past. Temples and scholars of divine magic are at a loss to explain a curse that has affected the entire region, and possibly the entire world.

The cause is a necromantic artifact called the Soulmonger, which is located somewhere in Chult, a mysterious peninsula far to the south, ringed with mountains and choked with rainforests.

Adventure design by Christopher Perkins, Will Doyle, and Steve Winter, with additional design by Adam Lee. Story consulting by the award-winning creator of Adventure Time, Pendleton Ward.

Price: $49.95 C$65.95
