We have a bunch of new stills on tap for the latest terror tale from writer/director Travis Romero, Treachery, so sit back, plan out some evil, and get to clicking. Then plan more evil. When you're done with that, plan even more. See how grand life can be?

The cast includes the amazing talents of Michael Biehn, Sarah Butler (I Spit On Your Grave), Caitlin Keats (Kill Bill 2), Matthew Ziff (Among Friends), Chris Meyer (Kiss of The Damned), and Richard Gunn and Jennifer Blanc-Biehn, who played Sketchy and Kendra on James Cameron's "Dark Angel".

The film captures the controversy between Henry and his estranged son, Nathan. Reunited at a friend’s small wedding party in a remote cabin, Henry and Nathan have their usual awkward interactions. Nathan, accompanied by his girlfriend Cecilia, seeks his father's approval. Cecilia's presence only adds to Henry's discomfort, forcing him to want to leave, but a storm hits, trapping them in the cabin and headed for the worst along with the rest of the group. None of them really realize what is truly in store.

The Dredd Trailer Arrives... Judge for Yourselves!

$
0
0

Our friends over at Machinima have scored the official web debut for the latest big-screen take on the character of Judge Dread from director Pete Travis, known simply as Dredd, and we have a look at it for you right here.

Karl Urban stars in the tile role along with Lena Headey, Olivia Thirlby, and Domhnall Gleeson. Look for it in theatres on September 21st.

Synopsis
The future America is an irradiated wasteland. On its East Coast, running from Boston to Washington, DC, lies Mega City One- a vast, violent metropolis where criminals rule the chaotic streets. The only force of order lies with the urban cops called “Judges” who possess the combined powers of judge, jury, and instant executioner. Known and feared throughout the city, Dredd (Karl Urban) is the ultimate Judge, challenged with ridding the city of its latest scourge – a dangerous drug epidemic that has users of “Slo-Mo” experiencing reality at a fraction of its normal speed.

During a routine day on the job, Dredd is assigned to train and evaluate Cassandra Anderson (Olivia Thirlby), a rookie with powerful psychic abilities thanks to a genetic mutation. A heinous crime calls them to a neighborhood where fellow Judges rarely dare to venture: a 200-story vertical slum controlled by prostitute turned drug lord Ma-Ma (Lena Headey) and her ruthless clan. When they capture one of the clan’s inner circle, Ma-Ma overtakes the compound’s control center and wages a dirty, vicious war against the Judges that proves she will stop at nothing to protect her empire. With the body count climbing and no way out, Dredd and Anderson must confront the odds and engage in the relentless battle for their survival.

The endlessly inventive mind of writer Alex Garland and director Pete Travis bring Dredd to life as a futuristic neo-noir action film. Filmed in 3D with stunning slow-motion photography sequences, the film returns the celebrated character to the dark, visceral incarnation from John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra's revered comic strip.

    From the Press Release
Few films achieve the perfect balance of genuine sincerity, tastefully ironic humor, and the heightened level of blood and guts expected from horror movies. On July 3rd, Anchor Bay Entertainment brings you one of these rare gems with Some Guy Who Kills People. Executive produced by famed director John Landis (National Lampoon’s Animal House, An American Werewolf in London, Coming to America) and boasting impeccable performances by Kevin Corrigan (The Departed, Superbad, The Dictator), Barry Bostwick (The Rocky Horror Picture Show, TV’s “Spin City”), Karen Black (Five Easy Pieces, House of 1000 Corpses), Leo Fitzpatrick (Kids, Serendipity), Ariel Gade (AVPR: Aliens vs. Predator-Requiem, Dark Water), and Lucy Davis (Shaun of the Dead, TV’s “The Office”), this film festival favorite is coming to DVD for an SRP of $22.98.

At first glance, Ken Boyd (Corrigan) may seem like an average comic enthusiast, living with his mother and working to make ends meet as an underpaid, underappreciated ice cream parlor attendant. But Ken has a dirty little secret: He fantasizes about killing people. After being released from a stay in the loony bin for severe mental trauma suffered when he was beaten and tortured by a gang of high school thugs, Ken’s repressed anger suddenly reaches a boiling point. He begins to hunt down his tormentors, one by one, and exacts his bloody revenge - all the while forming an unconventional bond with his estranged 11-year-old daughter (Gade). The film is written by Ryan Levin (TV’s “Scrubs,” Disney Channel’s “I’m With the Band”) and directed by Jack Perez (La Cucaracha, Wild Things 2, Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus). Critics have plenty of praise for Some Guy Who Kills People’s off-beat charm, with Bloody Disgusting calling it “funny, bloody, really sweet… a welcome breath of fresh air” and Sound on Sight noting, “About halfway through Some Guy Who Kills People, I’d laughed my throat raw.”

Yes, you read that headline correctly. Honestly? This could very well work as long as Sheen stays in character and doesn't just appear as Charlie Sheen. Then again, if they cast him as Charlie Sheen in a bizarro world in which he actually was elected to run the country, that'd be even funnier.

The news came moments ago from Robert Rodriguez;s Twitter account: "I just cast Charlie Sheen in #machetekills as the President of the United States! Who better?"

Sheen joins the previously announced Sofia Vergara, Edward James Olmos, Mel Gibson, Michelle Rodriguez, Jessica Alba, Amber Heard, Demian Bichir, Zoe Saldana, and of course Danny Trejo in Robert Rodriguez's sequel which will be distributed by 20th Century Fox.

Machete Kills finds the titular ex-federale (Danny Trejo) recruited by the U.S. government to stop a terrorist named Mendez the Madman, who happens to be Mexico's leading cartel dealer. Mel Gibson is set to co-star as Luther Voz, a cunning arms dealer and death merchant who aims to spread war across the planet by launching a missile.

Doctor Gash's Tip of the Scalpel: Vampires!

"Is this your wife? What a lovely throat." -Graf Orlock, Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror (1922) Vampires, oh how they've changed through the years. Unfortunately, it seems that somewhere along the line the vamps lost their…their GRRR!

And I'm not just talking about the Twilight vampires, although they are certainly guilty, they are just the newest non-threatening vampires. With the big finale of the Twilight saga on the horizon, we'll certainly be getting our fill of the Cullens, the Volturi and their ilk. We need to get back to the understanding of this fact…vampires eat people.

Doctor Gash's Tip of the Scalpel: Vampires!

However, with the R-rated Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (review) hitting theatres, there is hope. It's time to turn the scalpel toward some impressive vamps in the past so we give a Doctor Gash Tip of the Scalpel to Vampires That Were Actually Scary.

Now before the waves of disagreeing comments come crashing upon my shores, these are just a few of the MANY scary vampires from the history or horror. These bloodsuckers are just a few that stood out for having the ability to scare the holy shit out of me.

My biggest vampire cringe moment happened during Fright Night, and as memorable as Amy and Jerry Dandridge were, it was actually Evil Ed (played by Stephen Geoffreys) that did me in. One particular moment stands out more than the rest with Evil Ed, and that was when Charley Brewster goes into his mother's room to check on her. We, as innocent viewers, think it's simply Mrs. Brewster in the bed, until the shape moves and we realize instead it's the vampiric Evil Ed. Goosebumps, get to gooseing!

Doctor Gash's Tip of the Scalpel: Vampires!

In reflecting on scary vampire moments, the next one that jumps immediately to mind is quite different than the rambunctious and energetic Evil Ed. It was instead this vampire's unnerving stillness that made him so terrifying. The 1979 mini-series Salem's Lot had an iconic vampire in Kurt Barlow (played by Reggie Nalder) and he definitely had some scary moments. But he wasn't the vamp that stuck with me. Young Danny Glick (played by Brad Savage) tapping on the outside of his brother's bedroom window, also scary, but not the one, either. The Salem's Lot vampire that really brought the fear was Mike Ryerson (played by Geoffrey Lewis). And all he had to do was sit in a rocking chair and slowly, slowly… ever so slowly, rock back and forth into our nightmares.

Doctor Gash's Tip of the Scalpel: Vampires!

Of course we could not have a list of scary vampires without including the first one to grace the silver screen. Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror was basically just a retelling of Bram Stoker's Dracula, changed just a bit because the studio could not get the rights to the book. (Although apparently it wasn't changed enough as Stoker's estate did win a copyright infringement lawsuit against Nosferatu in which the judge ordered all copies of the film destroyed. Fortunately it had already been distributed far and wide and Nosferatu lived on to haunt audiences for nearly a century now). What made this film so memorable, of course, was the performance of Max Schreck as the vampire, Count Orlock. Even watching this film 90 years after it was released, viewers are chilled by Schreck's unique performance. You can imagine how it was received when it was initially released on an unsuspecting audience in 1922! When an actor (Schreck) is so creepy that his performance is celebrated 80 years later by a film which suggested he was an actual vampire, and it's almost believable (you remember Shadow of the Vampire) you know he did an amazing job!

Doctor Gash's Tip of the Scalpel: Vampires!

Other scary vamps…How about "The Hammer" Fred Williamson as Frost in From Dusk Till Dawn. Sure Tom Savini, Danny Trejo, Salma Hayek and Quentin Tarantino all made kick-ass vampires, but it was something about Frost and his huge gaping mouth-hole that made him simply heinous. Coming away from the film the image of this stunning monstrosity was what stuck with me…oh that, and Cheech Marin as Chet Pussy giving the rundown as to just what type of pussy you could get at the Titty Twister. "…we got hot pussy, cold pussy, we got wet pussy, we got…smelly pussy…

Doctor Gash's Tip of the Scalpel: Vampires!

Michael H. Moss played one helluva vampire in the underrated film The Night Flier, adapted from a Stephen King short story. Creatively named Dwight Renfield, this grotesque vamp ended up leaving an insane trail of gore behind him as he traveled from one tiny airport to the next in a black Skymaster plane. It's an interesting variation from the traditional vamp into a bat transformation as well. Renfield flies, but he's engine propelled.

Doctor Gash's Tip of the Scalpel: Vampires!

And as for unrelenting brutality (not to mention one of my favorite story concepts ever…vampires in Alaska, where the night lasts a looong time. Brilliant!) 30 Days of Night brings us a seriously bloodthirsty brood! Although he played a great role, I felt Danny Huston as the lead vamp, Marlow, looked a tiny bit Forrest Gumpish, but overall gang of vampires were incredible! 30 Days of Night represented scary vampires with a fury in this incredibly bloody and brutal film.

Doctor Gash's Tip of the Scalpel: Vampires!

Don't get me wrong, I love my "True Blood" vampires (new season got off to a good start!), but we have to remember, people represent food for vamps! When was the last time you wanted to screw your dinner before eating it? Okay, Sookie is pretty scrumptious…but I'm getting off topic here. From The Count on Sesame Street to Edward Cullen to Eric Northman, we've gotten away from the animalistic, uncontrollable, grotesque vampires that actually inspire fear. So, with big hopes for Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, we give a big Doctor Gash Tip of the Scalpel to Vampires That Were Actually Scary!

Exclusive: Bill Moseley Talks The Tortured, Exit Humanity, and More

Bill Moseley is one hell of a busy guy. In the last twelve months alone he's performed in The Devil's Carnival, the upcoming sequel The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D, appeared in two episodes of FEARnet's popular network series "Holliston" and a handful of other genre films as well.

Moseley is now keeping himself busy doing the publicity rounds for two recent releases- The Tortured which recently hit VOD platforms everywhere via IFC Films and Exit Humanity which also recently debuted on DVD courtesy of Bloody-Disgusting Selects.

Dread Central had the opportunity to chat with Moseley about both The Tortured (review) and Exit Humanity (review) - two wildly different films. In the first, the actor portrays child killer John Kozlowski who ends up at the mercy of the parents after a prison break goes awry and they capture him for their own twisted kind of revenge. In the latter, Moseley plays the dastardly General Williams, a southern patriot who is caught in the midst of a zombie outbreak during the Civil War who thinks he has a handle on the growing zombie population around him.

During our interviews for both features, we heard from the actor about what attracted him to both roles and his experiences working on both films as well as what's the latest on several upcoming projects including The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D, Manson Girls and the second installment of Bousman's The Devil's Carnival.

Dread Central: Let's talk a little bit about how you got involved with The Tortured- since that's Twisted (Pictures), I would guess that Repo! (the Genetic Opera) was a factor in this.

Bill Moseley: Indeed it was! I originally heard about this movie back when I was working on Repo! and Carl (Mazzocone) the producer came up to me and said that he had a great script, a movie about a child killer and pedophile who’s tortured and said that he wanted me to play the child molester and murderer. I don't know exactly what kind of compliment that is (laughing) but because Carl is a great guy, I agreed to read the script.

Exclusive: Bill Moseley Talks The Tortured, Exit Humanity, and More

It's definitely not a role you exactly go out looking for, especially because I am a parent so it's a hard subject matter for sure, but the script was really great and I knew I wanted to be a part of it after talking more to Carl about what we could do with the character. I love Carl- he's also producing the new Texas Chainsaw movie so he's a good guy who always keeps me working (laughs).

Dread Central: I wanted to talk more about something that you just touched upon- the fact that this character is a child molester. How do you go about fleshing out such a non-redeemable character like this? I know we've seen you play some depraved characters before- like Otis- but there was just something really unsettling about seeing you in make-up and a tiara like we do in The Tortured. I hope that comes off like the compliment it is meant to be (laughs).

Bill Moseley: I'll take it as a compliment- thanks! (laughs) But the make-up and tiara were all my idea; John as a character really didn't have many lines in the final script so I wanted to make sure he had his moments that would establish just how messed up this guy was. I borrowed the tiara from my daughter and my girlfriend Lucinda (Jenney) gave me some make-up tips. Both of those helped make this character what he was; I imagined him with a lot of splintered personalities and this one was a JonBenet (Ramsey) kind of beauty queen who just thought little boys were the filthiest things ever and fought with her abusive father a lot. I thought it really worked well.

Dread Central: I would agree- and it couldn't have been an easy role to approach either because if you go too far one way, it goes into caricature territory and if you go too far the other way, you risk the integrity of the character.

Bill Moseley: It was a difficult character to nail down; I remember coming to work one day and the production staff and crew were very excited to show me John's house and I thought that was kind of cool because it would help me get in this guy's head more. But when I got there, the living room was just packed with stuffed animals and clowns and all kinds of crazy kid stuff that pretty much screamed out- CHILD KILLER LIVES HERE (laughs). It wasn't subtle at all.

I told them that I needed all of that stuff gone; this movie takes place in a small town so anyone with just a small amount of intelligence would make their house look completely normal so that they fit in with everyone else in the neighborhood. John wouldn't want any attention; the only thing that I really thought John should have is a small cute little dog, like a little poodle or something like that, which was basically a prop that he would use at the playground to lure a kid into patting the dog. Thankfully, the production actually went along with that which made it a lot easier to play John in some ways.

Dread Central: I would say it was all effectively creepy- especially for me.

Bill Moseley: You know who wasn't creeped out? The little boy that my character John kidnaps- Thomas (Greenwood). I really had to work to get him scare of me (laughs). There is a scene where I come in to do something horrible to him but every time I would come in, he just couldn't get scared. It wasn't registering- I'd open the door and that fear needed for the scene to work just was not there. But we have the boy’s mother is on the set so we took her aside and mentioned that we were having trouble with him being scared and asked her for suggestions.

So it turns out that the one thing this kid is afraid of is Chucky from Child’s Play and as it turns out, the art director just happens to have a big cutout of a Chucky face. So we do the scene again and finally when I jump in the room, the kid’s eyes go wide and he gets scared and the reason being is that I have a giant Chucky face pinned to my shirt. Chucky saved the day!

Dread Central: Are there scenes that didn't make the cut in The Tortured- anything else that would give us some insight into your character?

Bill Moseley: Yes and I think the film would impact audiences differently if it had been left in there because it gives a moral compass- so to speak- for Jesse (Metcalfe) and Erika's (Christensen) characters. It's another court scene where they go over a laundry list of things that happened to the child while the parents and everyone is sitting there listening. It's horrendous and that's the list that the parents use while torturing John in the movie; I think it shows that there was specifically an eye for an eye response from the parents in their violent acts and when you take that out of the movie, it becomes harder for the audience to identify with the parents. So I wish that had stayed in but I know they took it out because the pedophile angle of the story was really touchy for everyone and reading that list would certainly have elevated that aspect of my character. So it got cut.

Dread Central: Well let's talk about another movie that you did which is the polar opposite of The Tortured- Exit Humanity. Since one of your more beloved roles for longtime fans is Johnnie in Savini's Night of the Living Dead, how much fun was it to return to the zombie subgenre on a movie that was a completely different take than what's currently going on out there?

Exclusive: Bill Moseley Talks The Tortured, Exit Humanity, and More

Bill Moseley: I just did Dead Souls too which is another zombie movie, but yes- Exit Humanity is very, very different. That's what I really loved about it; it really seems like zombies and the Civil War were made for each other (laughs). But I saw just how ambitious making a civil war era movie independently that also required a lot of zombie and gore effects would be and I really responded to that kind of energy.

The one thing I require to be a happy camper while working is that the creative forces-that-be really have to be into their work. And I can tell you that there was a lot of zombie love going on during Exit Humanity- by John (director Geddes) and the whole cast and crew too. Even the people who volunteered for zombie duty were so gung ho for everything! I'm sure they had a much different idea of what being a zombie would entail before they showed up but no one ever complained.

In fact, there were a lot of local volunteers who sat for hours- not only in the makeup chair but huddling together in usually wet or chilly circumstances. We shot in Canada so it did get chilly but everyone really did a great job on this movie and I think it was everybody's enthusiasm that made this such a great movie.

Dread Central: Let's talk about your character in this- General Williams; he's another bad guy but he's got an entirely different agenda (once again) than any of your previous villainous roles.

Bill Moseley: Yeah, General Williams is a guy who thinks that the South shall rise again and will finally win the war; he is obsessed with that. But he's also a guy who has figured out what the zombie outbreak is all about so he's working on finding a cure and also finding a way to control these things for his own undead army purposes. Whether there's a war or not, he's always going to be 'The General' so if he can't command the troops, he wants to command zombies. He was a really interesting character to me.

Speaking of interesting characters, can you talk more about two of your upcoming projects- Manson Girls which has you playing Charlie and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D which has you stepping into the franchise as Drayton Sawyer, not ChopTop like in Hooper's Part Two.

Bill Moseley: Well, I just did ADR for Texas Chainsaw Massacre a couple of weeks ago and I guess we're now coming out early in January 2013. It's a really unusual sequel though because it picks up right where the original leaves off. We're not acknowledging the other sequels at all in this one because of all the rights issues. But I'm playing Drayton and taking over for the dear departed Jim Siedow which feels a bit like making a Three Stooges remake and asking Curly to play Moe but either way, I was honored. And fans will get a bit more about what happened when the original ended and then there is a flash-forward eventually to modern times and we see how that plays out. That's all I can really say for that.

And for Manson Girls, I know that they're still fundraising on that. Susanna (director Lo) just shot a trailer for it just to get some interest going on it and what was really cool about it is that I got to record a cover of The Doors' song "Five to One" with Guy Allison (of the Doobie Brothers) for it, which was great. But I think they're still trying to lock down all the funding but I know I'm excited to be playing Charlie.

Dread Central: One last question- have you heard any news on the Devil's Carnival front? I've noticed some cryptic and teasing tweets over the last week or so about some potential news.

Bill Moseley: You know, I don't really know for sure what is going on except that I know part two has been written and I believe The Magician has a song in it too. That's all I've heard so far but I'm hoping part two gets to happen soon.
