Joe Lando to portray John Blackwell on The Secret CircleIf you go back a few years, one of the biggest heroes (and heartthrobs) on TV was Joe Lando of "Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman", but now he's playing for the other team and wielding dark magic as John Blackwell, Cassie's mysterious father, who will be making an appearance in Chance Harbor in Episode 1.15 of "The Secret Circle", entitled "Return."

TV Guide got the scoop that Blackwell is described as a commanding, enigmatic, and powerful witch with many enemies. He'll claim to be a changed man, determined to protect Cassie (Britt Robertson) and her Circle.

The character's original name in the L.J. Smith book series on which the show is based was Black John, a former member of the Circle many centuries ago who was killed by his own coven after he began to dabble in dark magic.

The Chainsaw Sally Show Revs Up for Season 2 on January 31st

The Chainsaw Sally Show Revs Up for Season 2 on January 31stShe's baaaack. Fans of the psychotic, sexy siren with a saw will be thrilled to know that April Monique Burril and friends are ready to launch The Chainsaw Sally Show Season 2. Sally and all her friends are back, with more blood-letting, boobs and brutality than ever before. Believe the tagline... "Twice the Blood, Half the Clothes".

Series creator/writer/director JimmyO Burril says viewers will see a Sally they recognize, but perhaps a bit evolved. "While still a sitcom, this season is a little darker, a little grittier, with no rules except our own to guide us," JimmyO said. This can certainly be seen immediately in the first episode of Season 2 as Sally gets frisky with a plaything in a scene that evolves into a realistic bloodbath with a 70's-esque feel. "There are some new developments this season and a handful of unexpected twists and turns," added JimmyO. The biggest addition is certainly the arrival of Angel Eyes, a new killer on Sally's turf. "This season Sally comes up against a rival serial killer wanting to take credit for her greatest hits in order to make his way into the American annals of crime," JimmyO said.

April Monique Burril is (as usual) brilliant in her role as Chainsaw Sally. She seems to effortlessly flip the switch between hilarious comedic delivery and an all-out psychotic episode. She's great. And, not to mention, very easy on the eyes. "This season The Chainsaw Sally Show promises everything fans fell in love with last season... but more! More horror, more laughs, more story, more action, more sex, more violence and, of course, more gore!" April Burril said. "Nicolette leFaye returns in her role as Sally's adorably sexy and totally spankable house pet, Busy Bee," said April, "and the amazing enchantress Debbie Rochon is back in the role of psychic prostitute, Blondie (aka Madam Dolores to her customers), providing comfort and advice to her good friend, Sally. (And did I mention 'comfort'? ... lots of comfort). Yes, that's right, Debbie Rochon and April Monique Burril together again. Wow.

Dread Central got a sneak preview of Episode 1 of Season 2 of The Chainsaw Sally Show (there's a nice look at the first scene for you below as well from an early teaser), and we can verify all they say is true. It's got a fun story, lots of blood, humor and sexuality.

Season 2 launches on January 31 only at chainsawsallyshow.com with new episodes every Tuesday.

The first show features the abovementioned stars as well as Azman Toy, JimmyO Burril, Sam Wiitala, Jordan Wyandt and a special appearance by Monique Dupree and Anthony Saint Thomas. The initial episode is F-R-E-E, and each subsequent one is just $.99. It's the best pocket change you can spend. Believe me. Just look at those stills in our gallery below the teaser!

Do yourself a favor and check out The Chainsaw Sally Show and then follow Chainsaw Sally herself on Twitter straight from Porterville, Maryland. She's on Facebook as well. Don't miss out - It's the season of the bitch!

Sam Witwer, Sam Huntington, and Meaghan Rath Talk Being Human Season 2

$

0

Sam Witwer, Meaghan Rath, Sam Huntington, Syfy's Being HumanSeason 2 of Syfy's "Being Human" premieres on Monday, January 16th, and as a follow-up to the two-part interview we posted earlier this week with showrunners Anna Fricke and Jeremy Carver (Part 1 here and Part 2 here), the network brought out the big guns - stars Sam Witwer, Sam Huntington, and Meaghan Rath - for a teleconference touching upon what fans have to look forward to from the trio.

There was quite a bit of banter among the participants and a spoiler or two we were asked not to reveal (mostly regarding Huntington's Josh and his girl friend Nora, played by Kristen Hager) so we separated the wheat from the chaff and bring you the following highlights:

Q: What about the storyline? Does Season Two feel different due to the stories you’re getting to tell?

Sam Witwer: It’s extremely different…very, very different. If Season One was about putting these people who are at risk into a safe environment, well Season Two is all about what is that risk about? With these people and their adversities - you know, the specific risks that they have in terms of being vampire, werewolf, and ghost - what do those conditions mean? And basically what it means is these people are in trouble, and we’re going to see a lot of that trouble this year. We’re going to see why they need so badly to have a sanctuary because things get a little bit darker this year.

Q: Is there a specific scene or moment or something that is going to happen this season that you’re kind of really excited to see the fans’ reaction to?

Meaghan Rath: Yeah, I’m sorry, but we couldn’t even start [to talk] about it right now because we would be fired. [laughter] But there are huge moments for each of us this season that happen sort of midway through for for all of us. There’s definitely a lot to look forward to, some really shocking things happening.

Sam Huntington: Shocking is the right word. Definitely.

Sam Witwer: Yeah, the real challenge I think this year was, we’ve lived with these characters for a season now, and so it’s like okay, what can we show? What new sides of this character can we show? We do get to know these different sides of these characters in big ways.

And the other big challenge this year is that we shot everything a little bit faster. We had less time to do stuff in for various reasons, and so there were several things that I had to do that I was like, 'How am I going to do this?' and I had one take to get it right. So that was a little bit frightening, but I think it all turned out all right; I’ve seen the stuff. And it’s okay; well, I think it works.

New Season 2 Cast Photo for Syfy's Being Human

Q: So I’m wondering - you all get along so great; are we going to be seeing a lot of tension between the roommates this year?

Sam Witwer: We will be seeing tension between the three in ways that we didn’t see in the first season. Things get pretty serious, and I’ll say this: The scenes feel really good when you do them. There’s some scenes that we have where we’re kind of at each other’s throats… I hope that doesn’t give too much away. And it feels really good in one sense to do because you know that you’re really cooking, like when it’s really working, you feel great about that. On the other hand I don’t like having to shout or be mean to Sammy or Meaghan, you know what I mean? That’s the tough part.

Meaghan Rath: Yeah, this season you will see a lot of tension between the three roommates because we all are on our own journey and trying to get ourselves out of these really desperate situations. So for the reason that we’re doing completely different things when we do come together, there’s a question of can we still relate to each other and how non-judgmental are we actually going to be towards each other? And that generates a lot of tension between us.

Sam Huntington: And you know the temptation this season is just a beast. You know what I mean? Just a beast.

Q: Are there any interesting or favorite guest stars this coming season that you’d like to mention?

Sam Witwer: Mark Pellegrino.

Meaghan Rath: Yeah.

Sam Huntington: There you go.

Meaghan Rath: There are a lot of guest stars we can’t talk about.

Q: Sam Witwer, why do you think that Aidan is, it seems to me, so much better than other vampires as far as trying to keep his dark side in check?

Sam Witwer: Why is he trying to keep his dark side in check? Well, it’s interesting, not knowing what other vampire shows are doing these days or vampire movies, I haven’t really watched them so I don’t know how new the idea of a vampire trying to become a good guys is… But our take on it with the whole drug addiction analogy is I think really fresh and cool, and that analogy, that metaphor is alive and well this season in a big, big way. And why is it cool? What’s better about it? Yeah, I don’t know. I like the fact that this is generally - that all things considered, if you take away the addiction - this is a principled guy. I like that about the character, but I don’t know. I really don’t know. I couldn’t tell you.

Q: The others all seem to either embrace it, really get into it, or just go with it, whatever, and he seems to want to fight against it.

Sam Witwer: He wants to fight against it, but this year you do see him embrace it a little bit. Kind of against his will. The thing that we have to remember is in the first season if he’s trying to kick the habit in a drug addiction sense, well, the first thing he’s got to do is stay away from his old drug buddies. And this season he can’t so we start seeing older… we’re going to see an older version of Aidan this year, and when I say "older", we’re going to see a worse version of him. We’re going to see some of his old character traits that he had over the past 200 years start to resurface. We’re going to learn first-hand why everyone seems to be afraid of this guy. You know, even in the first season Bishop gave him a wide berth and Marcus was wary of him and everyone spoke so highly of him as this maniac, really dangerous guy. And this year we kind of start learning why.

Sam Huntington: You see the old Aidan.

Syfy's Being Human Is a Real Monster

Q: Being that your characters are all going to be playing a lot apart from one another, how much will the hospital come into play? That’s where three of the four characters work, but is it going to be kind of like that "home away from home" as it was in the first season?

Sam Huntington: Things that happen in the hospital are pivotal and kind of springboards for a lot of stuff that happens in the season, but actually, you kind of definitely touch on something that’s true in that we don’t… it’s not like our home away from home this season like it was last year. And I think a lot of that actually also is because each of us are having our individual paths so there’s less of us actually meeting up at the hospital, you know?

Q: Can you talk a little bit about the addition of Dichen [Lachman from "Dollhouse ", who plays the vampire daughter of Mother, the vampire queen] on the show as well as the Mother character?

Sam Witwer: I’m trying to think of how much can I say without ruining too much. We go into some vampire authority matters, and there are vampires that are much, much older than Aidan or even Bishop. And Dichen kind of represents - because I was talking earlier about how we learn about older Aidan, we learn about how he was rather than how he is - and Dichen represents a lot of that in this season for Aidan. She represents a lot of what he wanted, a lot of who he wanted to be, and she’s thrown back into the mix, and the problem is that Aidan is now a different guy so we learn how… how do I put it? It’s like imagine that you had a really close relationship with someone back in high school, and then you link up with them later. It’s not exactly the same as it was because you’ve both changed, that type of thing.

Q: What about Sally? What kind of a journey is she on?

Meaghan Rath: For Sally, when we first see her in Season Two, she’s basically dealing with the consequences of missing her door at the end of Season One and what that means for her. She’s acquired these new powers of being able to very briefly touch things, which was a result of missing the door they think, and she meets some new supernatural beings that kind of introduce her to different powers, one being possession, which takes her down a very dark path because it is very addictive. And really her trajectory of the season is trying to fight or give in to this temptation, to this new sort of vice that she’s discovered and what that brings to her and how that breaks her down.

In "Being Human" leading normal lives is a lot harder than it looks for three roommates – vampire Aidan (Sam Witwer), ghost Sally (Meaghan Rath), and werewolf Josh (Sam Huntington) – who share their secrets and a Boston brownstone.

The Season 2 action picks up nearly a month after last season’s explosive finale as the three continue to struggle with their supernatural double lives and discover that temptation truly is a beast! Sally learns how to take over the body of others and slowly becomes addicted, Josh is still learning how to control his rage and still has Nora to account for, and Aidan doesn’t quite know how to deal with becoming the new leader of Boston.

Executive Producers are Michael Prupas, Adam Kane, Jeremy Carver and Anna Fricke (both of whom are also writers/showrunners), Rob Pursey, and Toby Whithouse. Irene Litinsky is Producer.

Box Office Report: The Devil Implodes

Box Office Report: The Devil ImplodesJust how big will the second week drop be? That’s the multi-million dollar question everyone’s been waiting to have answered since The Devil Inside opened to a surprising $34.5 million last weekend and reports coast-to-coast of audiences reacting to the film with a level of open hostility rarely seen in this day and age. The answer: huge.

Big second week drop-offs are nothing new for horror movies. Platinum Dunes’ Friday the 13th reboot famously opened huge its first week and dropped a whopping 70% its second, and its word-of-mouth didn’t include stories of entire theaters booing the film off-screen, audience members throwing stuff at the screen and demanding refunds, or even as has been reported in one instance, a lady so angry over the ending she spat on the theater floor in rage.

Note to future filmmakers: Never end your movie abruptly and then splash a url on the screen prompting the audience to go there to find out more unless the web address is for a website that offers to refund movie tickets.

Last weekend The Devil Inside shocked Hollywood insiders with a $17 million Friday opening. A week and an “F” Cinemascore audience rating later, the film’s second Friday did a paltry $2.6 million, down a cataclysmic 84%, as reported by Deadline Hollywood. Last weekend it shot to number one with $34.5 million. This weekend it plummeted to sixth place with only $7.9 million, a staggering decline of 76% from week one to week two.

Regardless, the movie cost less than a million to make and Paramount acquired it for only about a million. The studio is assured a tidy profit and the makers of this much maligned movie got a 3-picture deal with Paramount out of it. So, really, the only people who lost out on this endeavor were the angry patrons that felt ripped off when it was over and Uncle Creepy for all the grief we gave him on Dinner for Fiends for giving it its first (and one of its only) positive reviews.

Next weekend: Kate Beckinsale once again slithers into a tight leather jumpsuit as werewolves and vampires battle it out in 3D for what looks to be the most Resident Evil-ish Underworld sequel yet.

American Horror Story Season 2 - The Search Begins for the New Cast

$

American Horror Story Season 2 - The Search Begins for the New CastIn probably one of the most ballsy moves in television history, the "Glee" team of Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk killed off almost the entire cast of its "American Horror Story", leaving fans wondering what's on tap for Season 2. Recently during the Television Critics Association event FX president and general manager John Landgraf offered some insight.

"Ryan Murphy's already looking for that cast," Landgraf said. "He's already in active conversations with new people and also two or possibly three of the existing cast members. Some series regulars or guest cast may be continuing next year although they would be playing entirely new roles. We just didn't want to tell the audience that because the experience of not knowing where it would end would be diminished if they knew we were going to burn this cast and location to the ground."

Landgraf continues, "I was really excited about this idea from the get-go. One of the things I think Ryan's particularly strong at is creating a really distinctive world in all its aspects. That includes the tone and mood of the place, the costume design and music, cinematography. If you looked at the way those characters were dressed, right down to Jessica Lange's wardrobe and the way her hair was styled, Ryan Murphy was involved in every aspect of that. Even with 'Nip/Tuck' he wanted to recreate it at a certain point so he moved it from Miami to LA. This gives him the opportunity to do that every year."

"They have more leeway and creative freedom than most so I don't know every detail of everything they're up to, [but] I certainly knew a lot," Landgraf said. "I knew the entire family was going to die by the end of the season. One of my biggest concerns about the piece is that the nature of the genre is that you're always ahead of the protagonist. You know things the protagonist doesn't know so we knew that certain critics and audiences would get frustrated with the leads. It's just a classic rule of storytelling the leads should know more than the audience, or at least not less. After the lead characters were dead and knew everything, they were at least by the end of the piece able to recapture their status as leads. The final episode where Vivien and Ben Harmon spook the new couple out of the house was the first time in 7 or 8 episodes where they were ahead of the audience. It was an experiment. I didn't know if that would alienate the audience. It didn't in terms of viewership. That's Ryan. He's going to push the form and go to places you wouldn't expect."

Look for more on Season Two as it develops.

Zero Budget Superhero The Amazing Bulk Skulks onto DVD in April

From the director of Aliens vs. Avatars and the producer of Metal Man comes the cheapest, zaniest, most astounding no-budget superhero mockbuster The Asylum never produced. Once you’ve feasted your eyes upon the trailer for The Amazing Bulk, then you will be able to die knowing you truly have seen everything.

Henry “Hank” Howard, an ambitious young scientist, struggles to develop a superhuman serum designed to improve muscle mass and prolong life expectancy. His boss, the grumpy General Darwin, will not allow Hank to marry his daughter, Hannah, until the experiment is a success. Against Darwin's wishes Hank proposes to Hannah anyway, but his life is shattered by a mugger who steals his engagement ring. Dejected, Hank injects himself with the experimental serum and is transformed into the Amazing Bulk.

The Bulk goes on a rampage through the city, destroying everything in his path. Hank is caught by a relentless detective, imprisoned by Darwin, and forced to battle the sadistic Dr. Kantlove, who threatens to blow up the moon with his arsenal of weapons.

If I may quote myself from the article I wrote about this film almost one year ago when the trailer for The Amazing Bulk first appeared online to the astonishment of all that viewed it:

With stock footage, green screen, and computer effects that make Xtranormal look like Pixar, director Lewis Schoenbrun (Dr. Chopper, Queen Cobra) has made what looks to be a mixture of live-action actors surrounded by the green screen aesthetics of a cheaply made TV show designed for preschoolers. For all its budgetary limitations, the visual look almost achieves a level of cartoonish artistry, like if Zack Snyder was left to fend for himself with only a laptop, a green screen, and a box of Crayolas.

Tempe Video will be bringing this giant, purple, butt cheek flashing, superhero flick starring Jordan Lawson, Shevaun Kastle, Terence Lording, Juliette Angeli, Randal Malone to DVD on April 17th. Extras will include a featurette, storyboards, deleted scenes, and trailers.

Now behold the Bulk in all his raging purple glory!

January 19th is not just a memorable date because it was the day former WWE Superstar Bam Bam Bigelow died, it's also the birthdate of Edgar Allan Poe. And, in a blending of historic horror with a modern master, Doug Bradley (famous for his portrayal of Pinhead in eight Hellraiser films) will be reading one of Poe's most beloved works on Delamorte's Dungeon of Delights radio show.

Hosted by Rob Delamorte, the radio show, airing at 11pm EST, will feature Bradley delivering a Poe tale in his own chilling style. And you have a chance to get involved in the action. The Facebook Page for Doug Bradley's Spinechillers (a collection of classic tales read by icons of horror cinema like Robert Englund, Jeffrey Combs and Bradley himself) currently has a poll set up for listeners to vote on which story they would like Bradley to read…The Tell-Tale Heart, The Masque of the Red Death, The Raven or The Oval Portrait. The reading can only be heard here.

Renegade Arts Entertainment , which publishes Bradley's audiobook readings of classic tales, also has a collection of Poe stories coming out as a special audiobook release later in the year, read by Bradley and Robert Englund. Additionally, Bradley's Tell-Tale Heart movie adaptation is coming out soon.

Trailer For Upcoming Film Hostage Arrives Online ... No Ransom Required

A cool trailer has dropped that appears to be set in the same woods that corrupted the unsuspecting characters in The Evil Dead. Okay, maybe not the exact same woods, but the upcoming film Hostage has a guy in a cabin struggling for survival against a malevolent spirit. Off to a good start, I say!

Created by screenwriter/director Michael J. Yurinko (Fading), Hostage is currently filming in the Poconos, PA with a release scheduled for later this year. It's the story of a man battling his personal demons while snowbound inside his home. Kinda like The Shining, but on a smaller scale. Holt Boggs (The Prodigy) stars with George Katt (Valley of Angels). Additional filming will occur in Scranton and Bangor, PA as well as Los Angeles, CA.

Producer Robert Gordon Spencer (Romero’s Deadtime Stories Vol. 1) said, "Explorative and dynamic have been the two concepts or requirements I’ve focused on while providing feedback for the script as it was written and while we started filming. The key is getting the best out of everyone and putting all of it on film!” He continued, "If you can’t handle ‘scared’, go to the next theater; some of our own crew as well as myself could not help looking over our shoulders during filming. Just standing in the home we are filming in is very creepy."

Jessica Lange Home Takes Home a Golden Globe Award for American Horror StoryNearly three and a half of the dullest hours of my entire award-watching life just transpired as the 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards is history. Sadly, our genre only took home two awards this year, but they were well deserved!

"Being Human" – Season 2 premieres Monday, January 16th at 9/8c.
"Being Human" is a re-imagining of the acclaimed BBC original series that follows three 20-something roommates: a ghost (Meaghan Rath), a vampire (Sam Witwer), and a werewolf (Sam Huntington) who are struggling to keep their dark secrets from the world, while also helping each other navigate the complexities of living double lives.

"Ghost Hunters" – New episodes air Wednesdays at 9/8c.
Contact between humans and spirits from the afterlife is not as far fetched as is it seems. As plumbers by day and ghost hunters by night, Jason Hawes, Grant Wilson, and their team have worked to track down the presence of paranormals across the country. As leaders of The Atlantic Paranormal Society (TAPS), both Jason and Grant have made it their life's mission to help anyone with questions pertaining to paranormal phenomena and ghost hunting. TAPS is a group of fairly ordinary people — office managers, factory workers, teachers and even psychic-hotline gurus — moonlighting to understand seemingly unexplainable disturbances.

"Face Off" – New episodes air Wednesdays at 10/9c.
"Face Off" is a competition/elimination series exploring the world of special effects make-up artists and the unlimited imagination that allows them to create amazing works of living art. The contestants are tasked with elaborate feature challenges including executing full body paint make-up on models and creating their own horror villain. Not only does the show incorporate effects make-up, it includes a wide range of skill sets including prosthetics, 3D design, sculpting, eye enhancers, casting, and molding. Each episode involves incredible reveals of the competitors' finished work and the drama of one contestant being sent home by the panel of expert and celebrity judges. It all culminates in one winner and one grand prize that will launch a career.

Heidi, a blonde rock chick, DJs at a local radio station and, together with the two Hermans (Whitey and Munster), forms part of the "Big H Radio Team".

A mysterious wooden box containing a vinyl record arrives for Heidi, "a gift from the Lords". She assumes it's a rock band on a mission to spread their word. As Heidi and Whitey play the Lords' record, it starts to play backwards, and Heidi experiences a flashback to a past trauma.

Later Whitey plays the Lords' record, dubbing them the Lords of Salem, and to his surprise, the record plays normally and is a massive hit with listeners.

The arrival of another wooden box from the Lords presents the Big H Team with free tickets, posters and records to host a gig in Salem. Soon Heidi and her cohorts find that the gig is far from the rock spectacle they're expecting: The original Lords of Salem are returning, and they're out for BLOOD.

The first of the new stuff comes from Movie Infos, who just released two new stills; then under that you'll find a brand new behind-the-scenes featurette from MTV; and finally there's a new one-sheet that comes courtesy of Cineheroes.

The flick is being helmed by Timur Bekmambetov and stars Benjamin Walker, Anthony Mackie, Rufus Sewell, Dominic Cooper, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jimmi Simpson, Alan Tudyk and Robin McLeavy. That's one hell of a cast if you ask us!

Fox is aiming at a June 22nd, 2012, release for the Tim Burton-produced horror adventure.

Synopsis
The film explores the secret life of our greatest president, and the untold history that shaped our nation.
