"Dominion" follows the perilous journey of a rebellious young soldier, set against a backdrop of the ultimate celestial battle as it touches down on earth.

It premieres Thursday, June 19th, on Syfy (9-10 pm ET/PT) with limited commercial interruptions.

About "Dominion"
Based on characters from the hit theatrical film Legion (2010), "Dominion" is an epic supernatural drama set in the year 25 A.E. In this transformed post–apocalyptic future an army of lower angels, assembled by the archangel Gabriel, has waged a war of possession against mankind. The archangel Michael, turning against his own kind, has chosen to side with humanity against Gabriel. Rising out of the ashes of the 25-year battle are newly fortified cities which protect the human survivors. In Vega (formerly Las Vegas), the largest of these cities, two houses vie for control; and the stage is set for political upheaval and a dangerous power shift. Meanwhile, a rebellious young soldier begins a perilous journey as the war between the human race and the fallen angels hell-bent on their domination escalates.

"Dominion," produced by Universal Cable Productions and Bold Films, is executive produced by Vaun Wilmott, Todd Slavkin, and Darren Swimmer, along with executive producers Scott Stewart, who co-wrote and directed the feature film Legion, Michael Litvak, and David Lancaster of Bold Films, who produced the original film. Film Afrika serves as the local production entity in South Africa.

Artwork Premiere - Scream Factory and Anchor Bay's Halloween The Complete Collection Blu-ray Box SetGet ready to feast your eyes and glut your soul on the sexiest thing to hit the Halloween franchise since P.J. Soles bared her breasts and beckoned to a ghost-sheet-wearing Shape. See anything you like? Indeed!

    From the Press Release
Last year the horror classic Halloween celebrated 35 years of terror for those willing to partake in its vision of unrelenting horror. But that was only the beginning of the celebration.

What producers Moustapha Akkad, Debra Hill, and Irwin Yablans; writer/director John Carpenter; and stars Jamie Lee Curtis and Donald Pleasence started in 1978 has transformed into one of the most durable, iconic – and copiously studied -- horror film franchises ever created. Before Jason, before Freddy, and before Jigsaw, there was… Michael. Over the years audiences have lived and relived the terrors of Michael Myers through ten feature films as well as various re-edits and alternate versions; yet, to date, the complete saga of Michael Myers could only be told in pieces, in individual DVD and Blu-ray releases, with the rights spread across multiple home entertainment studios.

    Until now…

Through the unprecedented collaboration of rival home entertainment companies Anchor Bay Entertainment and Scream Factory – the leading purveyors in horror home entertainment – Halloween The Complete Collection Blu-ray box sets arrive September 23rd.

For the legions of Halloween fans, the Deluxe Edition boasts 15 discs and contains all the Halloween feature films – Halloween, Halloween II, Halloween III: Season of the Witch, Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers, Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers, Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers, Halloween H20, Halloween: Resurrection, Rob Zombie’s Halloween, and Halloween II. The set includes the NEVER BEFORE RELEASED producer's cut of Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers as well as the ultra-rare network TV version of the original Halloween, the network TV version of Halloween II, plus the unrated versions of Rob Zombie’s Halloween and Halloween II. It is packed with hours of BRAND NEW bonus features including new interviews with cast and crew from the entire franchise! In response to years of fan feedback, the first Halloween will now also include the original mono audio track, and the set will include both versions of the original Halloween - the original Blu-ray release and the recently remastered 35th Anniversary version with the mono track added back in! It also comes with a limited edition 40-page book written by Michael Gingold of Fangoria Magazine. The collectible packaging will include a newly commissioned illustration on the outer case, and each film will be in its own black Blu-ray case with the original theatrical one-sheet as the key art. This deluxe set carries an SRP of $169.99.

“This compilation is the ultimate collector's item for fans of the Halloween films and a testament to all the wonderful talent that have worked on them,” remarked Malek Akkad, President of Trancas International Films and son of series producer Moustapha Akkad. “The partnership between Anchor Bay Entertainment and Scream Factory to present fans for the first time with all the Halloween films in one definitive package is a tribute to everyone – including my father – who made these films the terrifying classics they are today.”

Halloween The Complete Collection Blu-ray Box Set

The 10-disc edition includes the original theatrical versions of the Halloween films and will include select bonus features. SRP is $129.99.

Both sets will be distributed by Anchor Bay Entertainment with bonus features developed and created by Scream Factory and Anchor Bay.

Halloween The Complete Collection Blu-ray box sets contain the following classics:

    Halloween (1978)
    Director: John Carpenter
The original indie blockbuster that launched a thousand cuts…Halloween stars Jamie Lee Curtis (A Fish Called Wanda, True Lies) in her debut role. Anyone who’s ever watched a horror film in the last 35 years knows the story of Michael Myers, who as a child, butchered his sister with a kitchen knife. Committed to a mental institution and watched over by Dr. Loomis (Donald Pleasance, Halloween II, IV & V, Fantastic Voyage), he engineers his escape 15 years later, returning to his hometown of Haddonfield, Illinois on Halloween night to terrorize anyone who gets in his way, including babysitter Laurie Strode (Curtis). Co-starring P.J. Soles (Carrie, Stripes, Rock ‘n Roll High School), Kyle Richards (The Watcher in the Woods, Eaten Alive), Nancy Loomis (Carpenter’s Assault On Precinct 13, The Fog), Charles Cyphers (Escape From New York, The Fog) and Brian Andrews (The Great Santini, Three O’Clock High), Halloween also cemented the careers of many behind the camera including Carpenter, Cundey, producer Debra Hill and film editor/production designer Tommy Lee Wallace (Halloween III: Season of the Witch, “It”).

    Halloween II (1981)
    Director: Rick Rosenthal
Picking up exactly where the first film left off, Halloween II follows the same ill-fated characters as they once again encounter the knife-wielding maniac they thought they had left for dead. It seems the inhuman Michael Myers is still very much alive and out for more revenge as he stalks the deserted halls of the Haddonfield Memorial Hospital. As he gets closer to his main target, Dr. Loomis (Donald Pleasence) discovers the chilling mystery behind the crazed psychopath’s actions. Written by John Carpenter and Debra Hill, Halloween II is a spine-tingling dark ride into the scariest night of the year.

Exclusively on the Deluxe Set: Halloween II (1981) Network Television Version. Airing on network TV since the early 80’s, the TV cut features several new scenes and additional cut scenes as well as an alternate ending from the theatrical version.

Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982)
    Director: Tommy Lee Wallace
When a terrified toy salesman is mysteriously attacked and brought to the hospital, babbling and clutching the year’s most popular Halloween costume — an eerie pumpkin mask — Dr. Daniel Challis (Tom Atkins, The Fog, Night Of The Creeps) is thrust into a terrifying Halloween nightmare. Working with the salesman’s daughter, Ellie (Stacey Nelkin), Daniel traces the mask to the Silver Shamrock Novelties company and its founder, Conal Cochran (Dan O’Herlihy, RoboCop). Ellie and Daniel uncover Cochran’s shocking Halloween plan and must stop him before trick-or-treaters across the country are kept from ever coming home in this terrifying thriller from writer/director Tommy Lee Wallace (Stephen King’s It).

Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers (1988)
    Director: Dwight H. Little
A decade ago, he butchered 16 people trying to get to his sister. He was shot and incinerated, but still the entity that Dr. Sam Loomis (the legendary Donald Pleasence) calls “Evil on two legs” would not die. Tonight, Michael Myers has come home again…to kill! This time, Michael returns to Haddonfield for Jamie Lloyd (Scream Queen Danielle Harris of Halloween 5 and Hatchett II and III) – the orphaned daughter of Laurie Strode – and her babysitter Rachel (Ellie Cornell of Halloween 5 and House of the Dead). Can Loomis stop Michael before the unholy slaughter reaches his innocent young niece? Michael Pataki, Sasha Jenson and Kathleen Kinmont co-star in this smash sequel that marked the long-awaited return to the original storyline and remains infamous for its startling twist ending and graphic violence.

Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers (1989)
    Director: Dominique Othenin-Girard
Because Hell would not have him, Michael Myers survived the mine explosion thought to have killed him. One year later, his traumatized young niece Jamie (Danielle Harris of Halloween 4) is horrified to discover she has a telepathic bond with her evil Uncle…and that Uncle Michael is on his way back to Haddonfield. But Dr. Loomis (the late, great Donald Pleasence) has a new plan to destroy The Boogey Man in his childhood home using Jamie as bait. Tonight, the carnage begins again: Michael Myers is back with a vengeance! Ellie Cornell and Beau Starr return for this hit sequel that features grisly gore by Greg Nicotero (“The Walking Dead”).

Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers (1995)
    Director: Joe Chappelle
In a single horrifying night, Michael Myers' masked reign of terror changed Halloween forever! Now, six years after he was presumed dead in a fire, Myers has returned to kill again - and this time there's no escape! As the homicidal fury builds to a spine-tingling climax, the long-hidden secrets of the screen's most maniacal murderer are revealed...with shocking results! Starring a thrilling cast including legendary Donald Pleasence (Halloween) and Paul Rudd (Anchorman).

Exclusively on the Deluxe Set: Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers (1995) Producer’s Cut. The so-called “Producer’s Cut of Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers (aka Halloween 666) was a workprint of the original film.

    Halloween H20: 20 Years Later (1998)
    Director: Steve Miner
This smart and suspenseful thriller scares up a bone-chilling good time with original scream queen Jamie Lee Curtis (True Lies, Halloween I & II) and a hot cast of hip young stars! Now the headmistress of a private school, Laurie Strode (Curtis) is still struggling with the horrifying, 20-year-old memories of the maniacal killer Michael Myers...when he suddenly reappears with a vengeance! And this Halloween, his terror will strike a whole new generation! Laurie's rebellious son (Josh Hartnett - The Faculty, 30 Days of Night), his girlfriend (Golden Globe Winner Michelle Williams - My Week with Marilyn), and the school security guard (LL Cool J - CBS’s “NCIS Los Angeles” will become Michael's newest victims unless Laurie can conquer her greatest fears and put evil in its place once and for all! The time has come again for you to experience the frightening fun of Halloween - the motion picture series that totally redefined terror.

    Halloween: Resurrection (2002)
    Director: Rick Rosenthal
Original Halloween I & II alums star Jamie Lee Curtis (You Again) and director Rick Rosenthal are back and joined by Busta Rhymes and Tyra Banks in the terrifying Halloween: Resurrection, another installment in the electrifying horror film series. The reality programmers at DangerTainment (Rhymes, Banks) have selected Rudy (Sean Patrick Thomas, The Fountain), Bill (Thomas Ian Nicholas, American Pie), Jen (“Battlestar Galactica’s” Katee Sackhoff) and a group of thrill-seeking teenagers to spend one fun-filled night in the childhood home of serial killer Michael Meyers. But the planned live broadcast turns deadly when their evening of excitement becomes a night of horror as Michael himself decides to crash the party.

    Halloween (2007)
    Director: Rob Zombie
What happens when one legendary horror filmmaker tackles a horror film icon? A new chapter in the legend is born! Rob Zombie (Lords of Salem, The Devil's Rejects) reinvents the ultimate slasher classic, unleashing Michael Myers for a bloody rollercoaster of a rampage like fans have never seen. Including a retelling of the original story that unfolds at a breakneck pace, as well as a chilling new introduction that finally reveals the secrets behind Myers' disturbing childhood, Halloween breathes new life into one of film history's most terrifying tales. Presenting both the original theatrical version and the unrated feature with director's commentary, thrilling bonus features including deleted scenes and an alternate ending, and an exhaustive 4 1/2 hour documentary giving a behind the scenes look at how Zombie created "the scariest Halloween to date" (Debbie Rochon, Fangoria Radio).

    Halloween II (2009)
    Director: Rob Zombie
Rob Zombie's H2 (Halloween) picks up at the exact moment that 2007's box-office smash Halloween stopped and follows the aftermath of Michael Myers' (Tyler Mane) murderous rampage through the eyes of heroine Laurie Strode (Scout Taylor Compton). Evil has a new destiny. Michael Myers is back in this terrifying sequel to Rob Zombie's visionary re-imagining of Halloween which grossed almost $80 million worldwide. It is that time of year again, and Michael Myers has returned home to sleepy Haddonfield, Illinois to take care of some unfinished family business. Unleashing a trail of terror that only horror master Zombie can, Myers will stop at nothing to bring closure to the secrets of his twisted past. But the town's got an unlikely new hero, if they can only stay alive long enough to stop the unstoppable.

New Texas Chain Saw Massacre Trailer and Release Schedule RevealedMPI/Dark Sky Films have just released a trailer for their June 20th theatrical release for the newly restored version of Tobe Hooper’s 1974 classic The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. Check it out right here courtesy of Entertainment Weekly.

In 1973, Tobe Hooper, a cast of unknown actors, and a crew of Austin film students and recent graduates headed to Round Rock, Texas in the middle of July. For the next 32 days they worked around the clock in 100 degree weather to make The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.

The movie became a huge hit on the drive-in circuit and eventually grossed $30 million. It was invited to the 1975 Cannes Film Festival Director’s Fortnight and was acquired as part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art. Since then, it has become the eighth highest-grossing horror franchise of all time. In 2012, Sight & Sound magazine named it one of the 250 most important movies ever made.

The new version of the film will be released in theaters this summer with a brand new 4K transfer, roughly four times the resolution of today’s more commonly used 2K for cinema. This is the only transfer of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre to go back to the original 16mm A/B rolls, the actual film that rolled through the cameras.

  • Nicolas Winding Refn NOT Bringing the Elisa Lam Story to the Big Screen

    0

Back in February Deadline reported that director Nicolas Winding Refn would be bringing Elisa Lam's haunting tale to the big screen for Sony with The Bringing. Now it seems that talks have stalled and Refn is out of the picture.

This is the one that got the town whipped into a frenzy partly because its catalyst was a widely circulated video of a young woman who displayed erratic behavior in an elevator at the Cecil Hotel in Los Angeles, the place such killers as Richard Ramirez called home at one time or other and where numerous suicides have occurred.

The woman, Elisa Lam, was found dead in a water tank on the roof of the hotel. The script has nothing really to do with that tragedy, but it created a germ of an idea focusing on a man investigating a death at the hotel and the nightmare he stumbles into.

Lam, who was only 21, was last seen at the Cecil Hotel on January 31st, 2013, according to L.A. police. Her parents had reported her missing, and her body was discovered, nude and floating in the water tower of the hotel (a drinking source for residents), where she apparently was for two weeks.

Lam’s final moments were caught on the elevator security camera of the hotel. The footage you see below was taken moments before her death. In it you’ll see Lam acting very strangely. She appears to be running from or hiding from someone... or something. Most perplexing about the video is that the door stays open the entire time, nearly four minutes.

A maintenance worker discovered the body while looking into complaints about the water pressure in the building. Guests had been drinking and bathing with water contaminated by a body that had been decomposing for nearly two weeks. So how did she get there? The water tower on top of the building was 15 feet high and locked. To gain access to said tower, Lam would have had to have passed silently through two locked and alarmed doors first. Apparently she did so. All doors were still locked. No alarms were ever tripped. There are 100's of stories about this on the internet reported by every reputable news agency that there is. Some people say she was possessed or attacked by a ghost. If this is the case, then this is the only known footage of such an occurrence.

In the end her death was ruled as “accidental.” Mind you, her clothes were never found. Nothing about this story makes any sense.

Dr. Gash and Ms. Vampy's Top 4 Tips for a Frightfully Fantastic Father's Day

    $

    0

Brooke Lewis, aka Ms. Vampy, and yours truly, Dr. Gash, have once again collaborated on a cacophony of cryptic clues to help you ring in Father's Day this Sunday, June 15th, in the best possible way. Read on to get the scoop.

Dr. Gash and Ms. Vampy's Top 4 Tips for a Frightfully Fantastic Father's Day

Ms. Vampy says: Acknowledge Your Father for All His Hard Work
After 100 years, I still can’t figure out men, but what I do know is that men need and love to be acknowledged for all they do, provide and work for! So let your father or man in your life know that you recognize and are grateful for all he has done to keep your family afloat and happy.

Dr. Gash says: As a father and a man myself, I can attest to the fact that Ms. Vampy is 100 percent right on the nose with this one. A little appreciation goes a long way. Don't be an ungrateful little bastard who tells his father he doesn't need him, only to nearly get his ass bitten by a bunch of zombies like one son we all know from "The Walking Dead." Just when you think you don't need daddy anymore, young mister Carl, might just be the time you need him most. A little thanks would go a long way. And to show you just how much Rick loves his son, check out this hilarious clip video below of just about every time Rick has said the name "Carl" throughout the first four seasons of "The Walking Dead."

Ms. Vampy says: Ladies, Let Your Husband or Baby Daddy Know What a Good Father He Is
A lot of women compliment their men on how romantic or thoughtful they are or how well they cleaned the house on Sunday, but they forget to let the men know how wonderful they are at fatherhood! We have all witnessed how fatherhood has changed many men’s lives. Men take pride in being a dad and doing the best job they can. They deserve to hear that you think so too!

Dr. Gash says: It's really great to let dad know just what a great job he's doing. But you don't want to go overboard on it, or he might just go overboard on the top-notch fathering. How is that possible, you may ask? Think back to a movie/novel entitled Pet Sematary where Dr. Louis Creed just couldn't keep himself from burying his daughter's beloved cat in the Micmac burial grounds to keep from disappointing his young daughter. And then burying his son... and his wife… Yeah, Louis went a little nutty with the reanimation plan, but surely your dad will hold things together better this Father's Day.

Ms. Vampy Says: Plan Something "Macho" and Out of the Ordinary
Ladies, yes, this is a day when you may have to kick off the high heels and play the role of a racecar driver! Whether it be fishing, hunting or hitting that baseball game (Ms. Vampy is more of an Eagles football gal, herself!!!), get guy-ish and take him out to the ballgame! Think about all the weekends dad has spent taking your daughter to dance class or watching that Saturday night chick flick with you, and then think about a fun day he rarely gets to do and plan it! And email us pictures of you playing paintball!

Dr. Gash says: As a lifelong Cowboys supporter, I'll choke down my disappointment of having to pair with an Eagles fans and soldier on here… Anyway, doing something macho and manly with your dad/husband on Father's Day is a great way to bond. Again, just keep an eye on the old boy so he doesn't get carried away. One example that comes immediately to mind is Chris Cleek. You'll remember him as the father in the Lucky McKee/Jack Ketchum tale The Woman. Out hunting one day, Chris does more than bring home some food for dinner; he brings home a woman (thus the title). And not the fun kind of woman either. This one was feral and filthy and altogether difficult to get along with. When he decides to civilize her, things go from bad to worse. Nothing like a perfectly good hunting day gone wrong.

Ms. Vampy Says: Pamper Your Father/Husband/Man
Tell dad to take a load off! Bring him breakfast in bed, pop in whatever DVDs or Netflix he wants to watch all day, draw him a bath and play his favorite music! Give him a full day without fixing anything or solving any problems. Make Father’s Day all about him, and he will feel like a king!

Dr. Gash says: A king indeed! Because if dad doesn't get a chance to relax in his own way every once in a while, you may start hearing things like, 'All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy' over and over and over again. And believe me, you do not want that. Sitting around watching a couple movies of dad's choice is a small price to pay to avoid being trapped in a bathroom with him swinging an axe through the door like Mr. Jack Torrance. And be sure not to forget the cake like poor Bedelia did in the "Father's Day" section of Creepshow because some dads really want their cake… and are even willing to come back from the dead for it!

    Happy Father's Day, everyone!

Stephen King Shares a Few More Details on Finders Keepers and Honors the Victims of Mr. Mercedes

Stephen King Shares a Few More Details on Finders Keepers and Honors the Victims of Mr. MercedesEarlier this week prolific horror author Stephen King revealed that his recently released Mr. Mercedes is Book #1 of a proposed trilogy, and now he's posted a letter to his fans with more about Finders Keepers, the second installment, plus a rather macabre list.

    Here's the letter from StephenKing.com:

    Dear Constant Reader,

Mr. Mercedes is the first volume of a projected trilogy concerning Bill Hodges, his friends… and his enemies. The second volume, Finders Keepers, is finished (in first draft, at least) and will be published in the first half of 2015, perhaps followed by a book of new stories in the fall (or not). Anyway, these three novels seem to revolve around the City Center Massacre that opens Mr. Mercedes. Because of that, I wanted to post a complete list of those killed and injured in Brady Hartsfield’s attack. Some of these unfortunates have other parts to play. As always, I’m glad you’re along for the ride, but be warned: There are some sharp turns ahead, and I’m a really crazy driver.

    Stephen King

If you've read or are reading the book and are curious about "The Toll," as King calls his list of victims, be sure to click the link at the bottom of the page and pay homage.

    Mr. Mercedes Synopsis:
In a mega-stakes, high-suspense race against time, three of the most unlikely and winning heroes Stephen King has ever created try to stop a lone killer from blowing up thousands.

In the frigid pre-dawn hours, in a distressed Midwestern city, hundreds of desperate unemployed folks are lined up for a spot at a job fair. Without warning, a lone driver plows through the crowd in a stolen Mercedes, running over the innocent, backing up, and charging again. Eight people are killed; fifteen are wounded. The killer escapes.

In another part of town, months later, a retired cop named Bill Hodges is still haunted by the unsolved crime. When he gets a crazed letter from someone who self-identifies as the “perk” and threatens an even more diabolical attack, Hodges wakes up from his depressed and vacant retirement, hell-bent on preventing another tragedy.

Brady Hartfield lives with his alcoholic mother in the house where he was born. He loved the feel of death under the wheels of the Mercedes, and he wants that rush again. Only Bill Hodges, with a couple of highly unlikely allies, can apprehend the killer before he strikes again. And they have no time to lose because Brady’s next mission, if it succeeds, will kill or maim thousands.

Mr. Mercedes is a war between good and evil, from the master of suspense whose insight into the mind of this obsessed, insane killer is chilling and unforgettable.

Event Report: Penny Dreadful's Reeve Carney Talks Playing Dorian Gray, the 'Picture,' His Co-Stars, Bono, and Lots More

Event Report: Penny Dreadful's Reeve Carney Talks Playing Dorian Gray, the 'Picture,' His Co-Stars, Bono, and Lots MoreWe recently joined 60 "Penny Dreadful" fans at an event that offered food, drink, music, and a screening of the latest episode complete with special guest Reeve Carney, who portrays the iconic Dorian Gray on the show.

The Bryant Park Hotel in Midtown Manhattan was the setting for the reception, held in honor of the winners of a Facebook contest. The announcement that "Penny Dreadful" will return for a second season was met with much fan happiness. More creatures! More of the occult!

As we have seen on both network and cable television, the horror genre has established a stronghold, and it's great that Showtime is claiming monster status along with the rest.

Our event report follows; just beware if you're not totally caught up that it does contain a few spoilers.

After libations in the hotel’s art deco bar, we were escorted downstairs, where the gift bags lived (pens, paper, and mirrors for us all) and props from the show were on display, including various knives and timepieces, crafted as artifacts of such quality that one would wonder if they were lost in time, not looking at items from a current cable series.

As the group settled into the screening area, a trivia contest commenced. The super fans knew the answers to most of the questions thrown at them, much to the delight of two Showtime staff members sitting in front of me. Winners were rewarded with prizes (t-shirts, posters, and branded decks of tarot cards) plus the glory of victory.

Next up was the Q&A. Carney was dressed in his “usual” dandy chic. (During the reception he relayed to me that the Wardrobe Dept. bases his on-screen look, in part, on his everyday attire.) His look that day was definably period. But never, and heaven forbid, steampunk. Music critic Brian Ives moderated the Q&A, questions ranging from Carney’s work in the series, being a touring musician, and his time on Broadway in Julie Taymor's infamous Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark. His hand in marriage was, of course, requested when the floor was opened up to the audience. How could one not fall under his spell?

To prepare for his role, Carney read the original Oscar Wilde book, but the production decided to move away from the source material. The painting will indeed be in the series’ future, but Carney still has not seen its design and is very curious about its construction. The character of Dorian Gray allowed Carney an occasion to reflect and learn: “Different characters that you play have an opportunity to teach you something about your own life and to help you grow as a human. So I try to come at it from that perspective, and I think of different lessons that Dorian has to teach me. One of them is fearlessness, being more fearless.”

Working on his English accent is still a work in progress. “I’m still working on it. I worked every day with my dialect coach, Jane Karen, who is amazing, so she’s there on set as well. I was nervous because I felt that that could be the moment that either makes it or breaks it with the character.”

He speaks with high praise of his formidable co-star Eva Green (she portrays Vanessa Ives). “She’s such an intensely professional performer, and so she’s just amazing. Her level of intensity is unlike most things I’ve seen. She makes it easy.” Particularly her performance during this season’s séance: “You get a front-row seat at some pretty genius craftsmanship… that’s what I felt, sitting there, because we had to do that probably about thirty times over the course of that scene because of all the coverage. If you notice, there are so many different angles, all these weird angles; one was through this sort of convex mirror. Eva had to do it over and over and over again. A lot of it was just natural reactions… [what] I thought Dorian’s response to that would be.”

And what was going though his mind after such an intense scene? “…'Curious' would be a good word for it. I think he has, like 5 percent maybe, some sort of sense of protectiveness as well because I think he realizes it’s something that she might not even be one hundred percent in control of. So a strange combination of curiosity and a sense of... I definitely don’t think he was afraid of it, nor judgmental in any way... From what we all know of the novel The Portrait of Dorian Gray, there is some sort of supernatural quality to this character so I think he’s drawn to that same supernatural quality in Vanessa.”

Event Report: Penny Dreadful's Reeve Carney Talks Playing Dorian Gray, the 'Picture,' His Co-Stars, Bono, and Lots MoreWhen asked about his on-screen kiss with Josh Hartnett (he portrays Ethan Chandler, who gives into the supernatural allure of Dorian Gray), “It helps to have some conversations, and you laugh after a take. It might sound a little surprising, but it helps to laugh. It makes it a lot easier.”

Then there was his nude scene, too, the first of his career. “It’s a freeing experience because if you can do your job in that state of disrobedness, then it makes things a lot easier when you are wearing clothes. It’s like diving into an ice-cold pool—you get used to it eventually.”

Carney equated the bringing together of different themes and literary characters in "Penny Dreadful" to something his favorite singer/songwriter Jon Brion once said “…That there is nothing new. But he said the way to makes things new is to combine things that wouldn’t naturally go together. So I guess… that it happens with this show as well. Bringing these characters together that don’t normally exist together in everyone’s mind. I do sort of agree that there’s maybe nothing new, but at the same time you do create new things; that’s the only way they created things before.”

Along with pursuing acting, Carney also records music at a studio built in his apartment. He is looking to put out an album early next year and to tour during his break from shooting. As someone who has opened up for U2 on their 360 Tour, the crowds have never bothered him. “Honestly, that was one of the least scary things I’ve ever done. I felt sort of at home onstage there. The more people, the merrier I guess. I think we were playing for about 50,000 people at that point, and I just felt great. I loved it. The sound… their sound system that they travel with is just amazing.”

Touring with U2 does not come without its wisdom. “There is a microphone called an SM-58, which is basically the cheapest kind of professional microphone you can get, a $100 microphone. It’s made for the stage, but that’s all he [Bono] uses in the studio. Every time you’ve heard his voice on a record, he was singing through one of those microphones, with the speakers blasting in the control room. As opposed to most of us, who go into the other rooms to record. These studios have ten or twenty thousand-dollar microphones. It’s pretty amazing that he can sound like that. And I realized you don’t have to be as precious as I thought you once did… all the passion and emotion with just that sort of mic.”

From screen to stage and the Great White Way, Spider-Man on Broadway left him with a different challenge. “On the stage you have to be much more expressive. In film and television it’s much more about what you’re thinking. I had a great teacher who told me you have to think loud when you’re in front of the camera. You don’t have to do too much in terms of pushing things out there, and I have quite enjoyed that. I feel if you can get out of you own way and relax, it’s an enjoyable thing. I think the hardest thing for me is reminding myself to relax and just to have fun… just let everything go after you do a take. Whereas, in a Broadway show you get to do it every night so you know if you screw this up, you just say, 'Ahh, I can do it again tomorrow night.' In film and TV you don't have the opportunity to do that. You work and work and work on this thing, and then it’s gone; it’s up there forever, and it’s a little stressful. But you’re allowed to have fun, and that’s what helps me.”

As for his future projects, Carney plans to play the late singer-songwriter Jeff Buckley in a biopic. Who better then a musician-actor to resurrect him through the lens of a camera?
