New Sleepy Hollow Season 2 Sneak Peek Explores Ichabod's Relationship with the Founding Fathers

Sleepyheads, rejoice! Season 2 of "Sleepy Hollow" kicks off in just two more weeks on Fox, and we have a new sneak peek that explores the relationships Ichabod had with some of the Founding Fathers.

"Sleepy Hollow" focuses on a resurrected Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison), who’s pulled two and a half centuries through time to unravel a mystery that dates all the way back to America’s founding fathers. Along for the wild ride is a modern-day cop, Lt. Abbie Mills (Nicole Beharie).

Orlando Jones, Katia Winter, Lyndie Greenwood, and John Noble return along with Mison and Beharie, and joining the show this coming season are Timothy Busfield as Benjamin Franklin; Sakina Jaffrey as Sheriff Reyes, filling in for the incarcerated Frank Irving (Jones); Heather Lind as Mary Wells, Crane’s English ex straight out of the 18th century; Matt Barr as Nick Hawley, an arms dealer who gets drawn into Ichabod and Abbie's work; and Aunjanue Ellis as Abbie and Jenny's (Greenwood) mother, Lori Mills.

"Sleepy Hollow" Season 2 begins September 22nd and will be an expanded 18 episodes. You'll find the synopsis for Episode 2.01 below. If you're still not quite caught up on Season 1, the Blu-ray and DVD arrive on September 16th.

"Sleepy Hollow" Episode 2.01 - "This Is War" (airs 9/22/14)
Picking up immediately after the spellbinding events of the Season 1 finale, Ichabod finds himself buried alive in a coffin; Abbie is trapped in purgatory; Ichabod's wife, Katrina, has been kidnapped by the Headless Horseman; Capt. Frank Irving is behind bars for a murder he did not commit; and Abbie's sister, Jenny, is among the wreckage of an horrific car crash. These events were due, in large part, to the shocking revelation that Henry Parish, the trusted friend of Ichabod and Abbie, is actually Ichabod and Katrina's son and the Second Horseman of the Apocalypse. Now, with Henry's emergence as the Horseman of War alongside the Headless Horseman, Sleepy Hollow has never been so close to destruction.

Exclusive: Escape from Jesus Island Being Developed as a Video Game

$

Exclusive: Escape From Jesus Island Being Developed As a Video GameYou read that correctly. When we first heard about Escape from Jesus Island, we just had to cover it for the crazy title (same as Dead Hooker in a Trunk). But like Dead Hooker, EFJI seems to be taking off, and the comic was only the beginning.

Escape from Jesus Island creator Shawn French tells Dread Central that the comic is indeed being developed into a role-playing game for mobile devices. The full title will be Escape from Jesus Island: Rise of the Antichrist, and it will be designed by Eric Pavone using the Unity Engine.

Pavone was the designer of Spider-man: The Movie and senior designer for Spider-man 2: The Movie, Army of Two, and Deus Ex: Human Revolution. French is stoked to be working with the veteran game designer.

"The chance to work with a designer like Eric Pavone on an EFJI adaptation is a dream come true," French said. "I’ve been playing his games for more than a decade! Eric and I connected like long-lost brothers right out of the gate. It's vital to us that the EFJI game captures the spirit of the comic, while telling a new story in the Jesus Island universe."

The game will feature an original story by French and artwork by EFJI artist Mortimer Glum.

French continued, "We’re giving fans a chance to play out the backstory of the Escape from Jesus Island comics as a turn-based role-playing game. It's a genre of game our crew loves, and we're giving RPGs the Jesus Island twist. The PCs are various forms of mutant cannibals and the game will feature a carnage-based currency. It'll be funny, dark, and all kinds of wrong."

Pavone also gave his take on the upcoming game. "EFJI's edgy subject matter and brilliant artwork seem to beg for a video game adaptation. When I first spoke with Shawn about the possibility of taking the EFJI franchise into the video game arena, I was amazed at how effortless it was for us to creatively jam on game possibilities. I'm really looking forward to working with the EFJI crew to help realize this world in a new medium."

The group is planning a 2015 release for Escape from Jesus Island: Rise of the Antichrist. For more, visit the official Escape from Jesus Island website.

Escape from Jesus Island: Rise of the Antichrist Storyline
Rise of the Antichrist serves as a prequel to the Escape from Jesus Island comics and allows players to control the teenage Antichrist, Yeshua, as he comes to power. Alongside a trio of custom-made, cannibalistic mutant freaks, Yeshua will explore the tunnels beneath ReGen Corp's Malsum Island Research Facility and establish his lair, then make his move to liberate the rest of his mutant brethren from ReGen’s clutches.

Tristan Risk Talks ABCs of Death 2, Save Yourself and Being Beatress

    $

    0

Tristan Risk Talks ABCs of Death 2, Save Yourself and Being BeatressYou know her best for her role as Beatress Johnson in American Mary, but Tristan Risk has been a very busy girl lately, and she's about to break big. She sat down with Dread Central to talk about her work, past and future.

Little Miss Risk is a compelling performer, a staunch horror fan and a charismatic interviewee. She talked about her beginnings, her affinity for her beloved character Beatress and the loads of work she's done since. Risk is as witty as she is alluring and we're sure you'll enjoy reading her interview as much as we enjoyed speaking with her.

We started at the very beginning and asked Risky how she got started in the acting business. "I've been a performer all my life," Risk said. "That's everything from doing stage shows, school plays, musicals, things at my grandpa's church. I didn't go to the church, but still performed in the recitals. I think my first emceeing gig was there when I was eight years old and that was the first time people learned the lesson, do not trust me with a microphone and a captive audience."

Risk continued, "I didn't really plan on screen acting. I'd been doing burlesque dancing for about 10 years and had been touring with a band as a dancer and sideshow performer and had had enough of the touring lifestyle and just wanted to do something else. I felt like I was in this Groundhog Day where all I do is spin tassels and entertain drunk people…and that's really fun, don't get me wrong, I love doing it…but you want to be able to prove to yourself that you can do something else."

And that desire for something new found a spark one night at The Rio. "I had a date night with a friend and she and I said it doesn't matter what film is playing, we're going to go to The Rio, we're going to see a movie. It's not about the movie, it's about hanging out. The film in question was a one-night screening of Dead Hooker in a Trunk," Risk said. "I was like, with a title like that how can it be anything other than amazing?! I'm a grindhouse fan. It was a full-on love letter to grindhouse. It was the Soska's first film. Unbeknownst to me, there was a part in it that would make me puke and I didn't think a horror movie could still make me puke. But it was really awesome to find out I still had decent revulsion left."

After that, it wasn't long before Tristan Risk and Jen and Sylvia Soska would become fast friends. "I messaged the Soskas and said I saw Dead Hooker last night, that it was amazing and if they need any help with anything to please let me know. At that point my burlesque troop had a studio. So I said I have space we can use, I've got tons of costumes. Anything, I'll help. Eventually they said, 'Hey, we're getting started with our next movie, American Mary would you be involved with it?' Initially I came on as a dance coordinator. And it wasn't until I was in a face to face meeting with the girls…and they were both staring at me intently, which was unnerving because I'd never had that happen before...and they were like, 'It's too bad you can't act.' I said, 'I can act!' I'd been doing a lot more theater then. So they said can you do voices and I told them I can do any voice you want, I'm a human parrot. I can pull that off. So they asked if I wanted to read for Beatress and I was said 'Oh yes. Yes I do!'"

Tristan Risk Talks ABCs of Death 2, Save Yourself and Being Beatress

And just how did that audition go? "I went to that audition and did everything. I did the lines, I sang, I danced, I stripped, I had my eyes blindfolded, I was handcuffed, I did striptease that way. I'm pretty sure that audition tape is going to come back and haunt me at some point," Risk said. "But that was my initial foray into it. I didn't really know what would come of it. I had a lot of fun doing it. I loved working with the prosthetics. I love wearing prosthetics. I love that kind of characters study, but I certainly didn't think it was going to become this popular. Then more and more people started approaching me with projects and ideas and I just started seizing everything with both hands."

So what new projects are in the future for Risky? "The guys from Astron 6, who I was a fan of from Manborg and Father's Day, contacted me and said we've got this film we're putting together. It's giallo style if you're interested. I said, 'Yes, there's always room for giallo,'" Risk said with a sly grin. "And then Jill Sixx put out a post about her film Call Girl with Laurence Harvey, who's a friend of mine, involved and she said I could audition for that, so it's been like a snowball."

As Risk's snowball rolls on, she's becoming involved in some interesting projects. "At Fantastic Fest, The ABCs of Death 2 is coming out and I'm doing something I've wanted to do for a long time. Between that and a number of my stage performances, people are really going to be wondering about my anatomy," Risk said. "And I'm okay with that. And if crazy rumors start to surface…she's had ribs removed, she's had other things done, I'm totally going to perpetuate that myth, whatever myth may arise. I'm just going to go with it like, 'Yeah, her eyeball crawls out of her head and lives in the sewer by night.' I'll be like 'Yeah, sure. It hangs out with the Ninja Turtles. Sweet.''She actually has fangs.''Yeah, yeah. I just had them filed down and capped because my orthodontist is a dick.' I don't know. I'll make something up."

In addition to The ABCs of Death 2, Risk went on to discuss her new film, Save Yourself, directed by Ryan M. Andrews, in which she co-stars with Jessica Cameron. "It's about these five women who've done a film," Risk said. "There's a writer, director, producer and two lead actresses. They're on a road trip together. Sounds like the beginning of a joke, doesn't it? 'A writer, a producer and director are on a road trip…' While they're on this road trip to screen the film they've made, they run afoul of mad scientist stuff. But when I was reading the script, it was almost too intense and I was like, 'Whoa, we're going to go here?' It's not The Human Centipede, it's not gross-out, but it does fuck with your head, which I enjoy because, being a Scorpio, I do enjoy a good head fuck now and then." Don't we all?

Risk went on to compliment her co-star "I had never worked with Jessica before and seeing how she could just switch back and forth between business mode to acting mode back and forth again, it was really amazing. The woman's work ethic puts the slaves who put the pyramids together in Egypt to shame."

Then we got a quick look into what shaped Miss Risk into the unique and magnetic performer she is today. "I didn't have a lot of friends growing up," Risk said. "I was an only child. I read a lot of comic books and watched lots of movies and I was like that moody goth teenager who painted and wrote and sculpted in her parents' basement. I was a recipe for either being a crazy performer or a serial killer. My parents put me in a fine arts school. Kind of like Fame, but no impromptu dance sessions at lunch time. And that gave me a chance to hone my skills and focus my attention. And that was the point where I decided who I wanted to be and develop who that person was. I got a chance to mature in later life…such as I have and not go into a clock tower with a high-powered rifle."

Tristan Risk Talks ABCs of Death 2, Save Yourself and Being Beatress

And now that the ball is rolling on her career, where does she want to go? "Anything that has to do with body movement I really enjoy, coming from a dance background," Risk said. "Anything that involves mask work, like prosthetics, I find a lot of reward in because you're really using your entire body to create the language of these characters because you might not have a bit of dialogue. Your dialogue is your body movement. Something you see Ron Pearlman or Doug Jones and how they can be in a movie multiple times as different characters and you would never be able to pick out that it's a guy in a suit and makeup doing all of that all the time. That's where I'd eventually like to find myself."

Before we finished the interview, we had to get Risky talking a bit about the beloved Beatress Johnson, her character in American Mary. "I took a couple approaches of getting into the character," Risk said. "I watched lots of old Betty Boop cartoons, but I also watched Madonna in Who's That Girl. I watched Ellen Greene in Little Shop of Horrors. Beatress kind of just came out."

She continued, "If I never get another role that defines me so much as a performer like Beatress, I can at least say that I have had that. People strongly identify me with her and everyone seems to really like her. It's not like you're getting strongly identified with a character everyone hates. What happened to the guy who played Jar Jar Binks? Yikes!"

Risk went on to profess her love for one specific section of her fan base. "The best response has come from the LGBT community because a lot of trans people have taken a shine to Beatress," Risk said. "And I'm a big supporter of the LGBT community and the queer lifestyle. And anyone who is having difficulty coming out their family and friends. I think a lot of people saw the body modification folks in American Mary and felt a kinship to that going 'I don't really feel comfortable how I am now or how I was born and that's not who I am.' To have something on the inside that doesn't reflect who you are physically and that's how people perceive you, I can't imagine what it's like for a lot of trans people, to go through life in the wrong body. I can't even fathom what that's like. And for them to even begin the process to admit that's what it is and tell people they trust in their life and hope that they don't freak out or react poorly or treat them differently and go through the actual physical steps to do the changes is so remarkably heroic, especially in light of how closed minded a lot of society is about that. I love that they really enjoyed Beatress as a character and feel that kinship with her and I'll fight to the death for those people because I feel that until everybody can just be who they are and be accepted for that we've still got a long way to go on that. It's an uphill battle for that, but I'm gonna man the Gatling gun if I can."

  • Exclusive: Stanley Yung Talks 2 Bedroom 1 Bath

Exclusive: Stanley Yung Talks 2 Bedroom 1 BathThe latest haunted house horror to burst onto the big screen is 2 Bedroom 1 Bath (review), named so for the typical, banal listing description of an apartment.

It tells the story of Rachel (Michelle Hicks) and Kevin Foster (Andrew W. Walker), a couple who have finally found the ideal home where they can build a future and raise their children. They are hoping it’s a fresh start for their troubled marriage, but as they begin to settle into their new digs, their plans are interrupted by strange occurrences.

As it so happens, director Stanley Yung was inspired by true events when he embarked on this, his first foray into full-on horror. We got a chance to catch up with him at the special event premiere screening of the film, and here’s what he had to say about making a scary movie.

Dread Central: You have such a great cast; we’d love to know how this film came together for you, since you’re not (yet!) known in the horror genre.

Stanley Yung: Well, the original genesis of it was a script that I wrote several years ago, which is actually inspired by a true story of some friends of mine who lived in an apartment that turned out to be haunted. They were telling me a lot about their experiences and it inspired me to write the story. And Al Bravo [producer] and I have known each other socially for a couple of years, so I showed him a copy of the script and he really liked it. And then a few years ago he got hooked up with some investors in New Orleans that were looking for a project. They really liked the script.

DC: The most haunted city in America! Makes sense, that’s where you got financing. And it’s where you shot.

SY: Yeah. It was great. We actually went on one of those haunted tours, on one of our off days.

DC: Setting this in an apartment probably makes it a little more challenging than in an isolated house in the middle of nowhere. So what were some of the more interesting road blocks that you came up with, to make the film scary and yet a lot of other people are around…

SY: Well, I definitely wanted to do a twist on the haunted house story because I wanted to pick somewhere that was sort of mundane and an environment people were familiar with. That’s why we came up with the title 2 Bedrooms 1 Bath, because that is what you would see in a rental ad. So it… just to put people in that type of mindset when they feel they are walking to an environment that won't necessarily be scary but it turns out to be. That’s pretty messed up actually if you think about it.

DC: How did the ghost manifest in this story? Did you think about doing it through hallucinations, do more of a corporeal being?

SY: It’s mostly psychological. It is kind of based on, and again inspired by, what happened to my friends. It would manifest itself in dreams and hallucinations. But in the movie there is a physical ghost of a former tenant that haunts the main characters of the story.

DC: So you have Dee Wallace in your film, who is a horror icon, and of course Eric Roberts, who is amazing, Costas Mandylor… can you talk a little bit about how your cast all came together?

SY: Dee Wallace was someone I always imagined for the role. She plays the general manger of the apartment building. She was perfect for the part, I thought. And I have always been a fan of her work, especially Cujo. They’re all great, though. Michele [Hicks], I’ve been a fan of hers for a while now. She has done a lot of strong work, usually in supporting roles, and the television show “The Shield.” I first noticed her in Twin Falls Idaho, so she was on my shortlist of people to approach in the beginning. Andrew [Walker] was a find from our casting director, Scott David. I think he is going to blow up pretty soon. He is going to be a big star.

DC: So with this film, can fans kind of look up the real story? Do your friends have a book out, or anything about their experiences?

SY: No, they never went that far.

DC: They didn’t take the George Lutz route, huh?

SY: No. I guess it wasn’t like… it wasn’t as fantastical as The Amityville Horror, but it definitely freaked them out. I didn’t want to go visit them once I heard their place was haunted.

DC: Have they moved out since then?

SY: They did. Although they stayed there for a while. They had the bad experiences for a while, but then they had a pastor come and pray over the place and things calmed down after that.

DC: Are you a believer? Have you had any experiences with the supernatural?

SY: I haven’t, personally. I am a believer in hauntings and that sort of thing, and I visited some haunted places in New Orleans when I was there. That was interesting.

DC: Did you feel any chills?

SY: Yeah. But I don’t know if it was real or just psychological because I have an active imagination.

You can see just how active Stanley’s imagination is, when 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath hits VOD. Don't wanna wait? Look for it in limited theatrical release right now!

    Synopsis
A young couple moves into what appears to be the perfect home. But when they discover that they will soon become parents, things begin to fall apart. Rachel (Michele Hicks), the expectant mother, is haunted by a ghost in a red dress while Kevin (Andrew W. Walker), the soon-to-be father, has frightening nightmares even while he’s awake. The once happy couple is torn apart by horrific events which all seem to be centered around the birth of their unborn child.
