Earlier today we posted our review of Ben Wheatley’s High-Rise, and now, to kick off your weekend, we have two new clips from the film to share.

High-Rise hit On Demand outlets yesterday, April 28th, and its limited theatrical release begins on May 13th.

Scripted by Amy Jump, the film stars Tom Hiddleston (The Avengers, Crimson Peak), Jeremy Irons (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice), Sienna Miller (American Sniper), Luke Evans (Dracula Untold), and Elisabeth Moss (“Mad Men”). It chronicles the savage breakdown of social order inside a giant residential apartment block.

Synopsis:
High-Rise stars Hiddleston as Dr. Robert Laing, the newest resident of a luxurious apartment in a high-tech concrete skyscraper whose lofty location places him amongst the upper class. Laing quickly settles into high society life and meets the building’s eccentric tenants: Charlotte (Miller), his upstairs neighbor and bohemian single mother; Wilder (Evans), a charismatic documentarian who lives with his pregnant wife, Helen (Moss); and Mr. Royal (Irons), the enigmatic architect who designed the building. Life seems like paradise to the solitude-seeking Laing. But as power outages become more frequent and building flaws emerge, particularly on the lower floors, the regimented social strata begins to crumble, and the building becomes a battlefield in a literal class war.

Giant Monsters and Aliens Square Off in Gantz:0 Trailer

The bestselling horror manga series Gantz by Hiroya Oku follows two teenagers, Kei Kurono and Masaru Kato, who are killed by a subway train before being resurrected and forced to participate in a bizarre game that has them hunting aliens on Earth. Noted for its heavy violence, the series has previously been adapted into both an anime series and live-action films, with a CGI movie hitting Japan on October 14, titled Gantz:O.

The first teaser’s now been released by Toho, and it doesn’t say a whole lot about the film other than that it has huge robots going up against huge aliens. That’s good enough for us.

Director Marcel Walz dropped us a line this morning to share several new images from his upcoming remake of Herschell Gordon Lewis’ 1963 splatter classic Blood Feast. Check ’em out – they promise a redux as “appalling” as the original!

The film stars Robert Rusler, Caroline Williams, Sophie Monk, and Sadie Katz. Ryan Nicholson heads up the makeup department.

Synopsis:
Fuad Ramses (Rusler) and his family have moved from the United States to France, where they run an American diner. Since business is not going too well, Fuad also works night shifts in a museum of ancient Egyptian culture. During these long, lonely nights he is repeatedly drawn to a statue representing the seductive ancient goddess Ishtar (Katz). He becomes more and more allured by the goddess as she speaks to him in visions. Eventually he succumbs to her deadly charms.

After this pivotal night, Fuad begins a new life, in which murder and cannibalism become his daily bread. He starts to prepare a ritual feast to honor his new mistress, a lavish affair dripping with blood, organs, and intestines of human victims. As butchered bodies are heaped upon the Altar of Ishtar, Fuad slowly slips further into madness until he is no more than the goddess’ puppet; and she thirsts for the blood of Fuad’s wife and daughter too…

A series of commercials will be playing in theatres across Japan in which the ghosts from The Grudge/The Ring crossover film Sadako vs. Kayako teach patrons theatre etiquette. Which seems appropriate, really, because how many times have you wanted to unleash a demonic spirit on people who talk on their phone during a movie?

The bizarre ads also feature messages such as to not illegally record the film, to not take minors to see it, to be sure to buy popcorn before it starts, and that women get a special discount on Wednesdays. Honestly, they need to be sen to be believed, so I’ll stop talking now and let them play.

Sadako vs. Kayako opens in Japan on June 18, 2016.

World Castle Publishing is releasing G.A. Minton’s new novel Trisomy XXI in early June, and with its mix of horror, sci-fi, and mystery, it should tingle the spines of more than a few of our readers. We have the full scoop for you below.

From the Press Release:
Texas doctor G.A. Minton, a lifelong fan of horror and science fiction, developed a passion for writing amid highly unusual circumstances. Several years ago, Minton was rear-ended by a drunk driver and suffered a traumatic closed-head injury. Following numerous visits to the neurologist, a slew of neurological testing, and taking Aricept, a medication used to help patients with Alzheimer’s, G.A. slowly regained his mental capabilities. But something was very different: He now had an overwhelming passion to write a tale of horror. Trisomy XXI is the result.

An extraordinary novel that fuses elements of horror, science fiction, mystery, and thriller, Trisomy XXI is the story of Joshua Allen, a sixteen-year-old who was born with an extra chromosome—a genetic aberration known as Trisomy XXI, or Down Syndrome. When a serious accident leaves him in a coma at the hospital, Joshua receives a mysterious injection that endows him with supernatural powers.

The transformed teen is linked to a string of bizarre, unexplained deaths that have both the town’s sheriff and the coroner baffled. But when a ghastly creature from another planet lands on Earth and begins its hunt for Joshua—viciously slaughtering anyone in its path in order to complete its deadly mission—Joshua and his friends are thrust into terrifying circumstances.

What follows is a horrific life-and-death struggle with this seemingly-indestructible extraterrestrial being. The salvation of an entire race of aliens hangs in the balance…

A spine-tingler of the highest order, Trisomy XXI will be released in trade paper and eBook editions on June 6, 2016.

When she was young, teachers told Australian author Efthalia to stop making up her own words… good thing for followers of horror/fantasy fiction that she didn’t listen!

Her latest novel, Phantasma, was recently released by Mill City Press, Inc.; and we have more info and a look at its cover art below. Fans of Barbara Longley, Jeff Wheeler, and T. S. Joyce should find her book the perfect addition to their summer reading lists.

Inspired by her Greek heritage and love of mythology and fantasy, Efthalia loosely based Phantasma on the story of Ares. Carissa Alkippes is a vivacious and resilient police officer. Faced with certain death from a fierce battle with demons and vampires, Alkippes is saved by the man of her dreams — the tall, dark, and sexy vampire named Xen Lyson. Caught in the deadly game of a demi-god seeking godly powers, Xen erased part of Carissa’s memory to protect her. Unknowingly the daughter of an Olympian god, nothing in her career as a police officer can prepare her for what she is about to experience.

Synopsis:
Carissa Alkippes is the daughter of a god but doesn’t know it. As a cop, she’s seen her fair share of bad, but nothing prepared her for the horror of the world she has been plunged into. Xen Lyson is the head of the Phi Athanatoi, a group of immortals who have been protecting man for over 2,000 years from the Kakodiamones–demons who want nothing more than to feast on humanity. Thrown face-to-face with Xen during a skirmish with the demons, Carissa becomes a pawn in the deadly game of a demi-god who seeks godly powers.

8 Most Unorthodox Horror Film Hauntings

You think we’d have gotten tired of vengeful spirits by now. If you really think about it, we’ve been telling stories of jilted lovers and villainous fiends returning as poltergeists since campfires existed to huddle around. There’s something about our existence carrying on, even in a tortured and warped form, that makes us want to believe.

Personally, I’m a sucker for ghost stories. It’s insane how many found footage films I have sat through just because it was tagged as “supernatural.” I can’t remember my Social Security number, but I’ll be damned if my brain will forget a second of The St. Francisville Experiment. So, with the upcoming release of RLJ’s The Haunting of Alice D, it got me thinking of some of the most memorable cinema hauntings I’ve seen. No, not the BEST, but the strangest, weirdest, most out there, and ultimately unforgettable paranormal happenings. So without further ado, here’s Ted’s 8 Most Unorthodox Horror Film Hauntings!

8) Stay Alive (2006):

Wow, I never thought I’d be making a “top” list with Stay Alive on it. It’s a movie that can generously be described as fun when drunk as a chimp being used for scientific research on addiction. As an actual gamer, it’s borderline offensively stupid. However, there’s no denying that the idea of a haunted video game is pretty badass. An action RPG where the villain is none other than the infamous Elizabeth Bathory, protected by a horde of monsters? Hell yes! Unfortunately, poor execution prevented the idea from really taking flight. I’ve watched this movie about six times on concept alone. I KNOW that it’s crap, but I just can’t stay away.

Stay Alive

7) The Collingswood Story (2002):

Video chat is now ubiquitous enough to be the prefered method for grandparents the world over to keep tabs on their progeny, but it wasn’t always that way. Back in the days of IRC, it was a Wild West of insanity that would make even the most furious of Chatroulette masturbators blush. As amateurish as The Collingswood Story was, it had the balls to tell a ghost story over video chat in 2002. When people think of “Skype ghosts”, they naturally go to Unfriended, but did that movie have video chat psychics and creepy shirtless Santa Claus impersonators singing you songs? It hasn’t aged super well, but The Collingswood Story is the embodiment of taking a risky idea and running with it.

6) The Possession (2012):

I can count on one finger the number of horror movies focused on Jewish mythology. It’s not like the culture is lacking its share of demons and monsters. Dybbuks, Golems, Leviathans, and Samael are an old world kind of badass that practically demand modern adaptations.Without a doubt, The Possession proves that these ideas can work. It’s a terrifying film at every step, constantly shocking you right up until the credits. I mean just look at this MRI! Fucking hell!

David Bruckner is a director to watch so when news of another flick he’s behind comes, we make it a priority to let you guys know. THR is reporting that Bruckner will write and direct the sci-fi thriller Oswald.

Patrick Ewald and Shaked Berenson of Epic Pictures will be producing the project, whose story is being kept under wraps.

We’re excited to be working with David [Bruckner] as his vision for his film fits squarely in our wheelhouse. While a true thriller, I think Oswald will also get a lot of people thinking about how they view the advancements of tech,” said Berenson.

Epic has acquired the worldwide rights to the film.

I believe Oswald has found the perfect home at Epic Pictures. They share a deep appreciation for mind-bending sci-fi and a willingness to explore challenging topics through the science-fiction genre. I’m overwhelmingly excited to begin this process,” says Bruckner.

Bruckner is a genre director best known for his contribution to the horror anthology series V/H/S and recently contributed to the anthology Southbound, which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival and sold to The Orchard.
