If giant squids are on your horror-loving monster menus – take heed! Christophe Gans is gearing up to take us on quite the adventure!

From the Press Release:
Bliss Media announced that it will produce and finance 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, which they will also release in China. Christophe Gans (Beauty and the Beast, Silent Hill, Brotherhood of the Wolf) will direct the sci-fi adventure feature, adapted from the Jules Verne novel. Pre-production will commence this fall.

Bliss CEO Wei Han will produce alongside Eskwad’s Richard Grandpierre and Frédéric Doniguian, with Wild Bunch, TF1, and Pathé also on board to co-produce and distribute.

This is the first large-scale, big-screen adaptation of the book since the 1950s. The film, whose script will be co-developed with Bliss Media, will move Verne’s narrative to a Chinese setting, and concept art indicated a fin de siècle, East-meets-West visual aesthetic.

Gans visited different locations in the Shanghai area during the Shanghai International Film Festival, and is hoping to cast two Chinese actors to play lead roles in the movies. At Friday’s conference, director Gans spoke of both his and Jules Verne’s long-standing fascination with China.

Most recently at the Shanghai International Film Festival, Bliss Media announced that they have partnered with Orlando Bloom on the formation of a joint production company, BlissBloom Productions. The new venture’s first project, S.M.A.R.T. Chase: Fire & Earth, will be directed by Julien Seri with Bloom attached to star.

In addition to 20,000 Leagues under the Sea and S.M.A.R.T Chase: Fire and Earth, Bliss is also developing Michael Mann’s Enzo Ferrari, has recently financed and executive produced Pablo Larraín’s Jackie starring Natalie Portman, and acquired the Chinese distribution rights to Mel Gibson’s Hacksaw Ridge starring Andrew Garfield.

The company also owns a stake in Insiders, alongside Wild Bunch and Cine France, and launched the Yoozoo Bliss Film Fund (YZBFF), a $100 million equity fund designed to finance ten international productions and Chinese co-productions over five years.

Scott Derrickson Shows Off Badass Concept Art For Unmade Paradise Lost Film

One of our favorite filmmakers working today, Scott Derrickson has made quite a mark on the horror genre in the last several years, directing gems like The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Sinister, and Deliver Us from Evil. Up next, he brings Doctor Strange to the big screen, but today we’re here to talk about a project he *almost* directed.

Over on Twitter, @ScottDerrickson just revealed that he was at one point attached to direct an adaptation of John Milton’s epic poem Paradise Lost, and he also shared concept art showcasing his vision for the unmade film. The movie would’ve told the story of Lucifer, the fallen angel who became Satan.

The four pieces of conceptual art show off the evolution of Lucifer, starting off as Angel Lucifer and eventually becoming Satan. Derrickson describes the two middle stages as Rebel Lucifer and Fallen Lucifer, and we think you’ll find that the art teases a film you’d really love to see up there on the big screen.

Check out the unused art for the unmade film below!

Per usual, the powers-that-be who are the masterminds behind AMC’s “The Walking Dead” are staying mum with regard to what’s ahead in the upcoming Season 7, but TVLine managed to get the scoop on a couple of new characters who are heading our way… and neither seems to come from the comics.

According to the site, Episode 7.06 will introduce Naomi, a grandmotherly type who, having lost so many loved ones, is now willing to do whatever it takes not to have to bury any more, and Jennie, a sunny-side-up kind of teenager who is “kind, with a world-weary toughness.”

If we hear any more about these two ladies (i.e., casting news, etc.), we’ll be sure to let you know.

Season 7 of “The Walking Dead” kicks off in October.  To stay up-to-the-minute on all things walker related, follow @WalkingDead_AMC on Twitter and visit “The Walking Dead” on Facebook. For more info be sure to hit up the official “The Walking Dead” page on AMC.com.

The Walking Dead – Henry Rollins Reveals He Auditioned to Play Negan!

Let’s make one thing perfectly clear before we even begin. If his debut episode was any indication, Jeffrey Dean Morgan is the pitch perfect actor to play badass villain Negan on “The Walking Dead,” and we can’t wait to see him bash some heads in. But if Henry Rollins was playing the character? Well, we’d kinda love to see that too!

As it turns out, Henry Rollins did audition for the role of Negan, which makes total sense because the character was actually based on Rollins. Speaking with Forbes, the musician/actor recently opened up about the AMC audition.

Since I didn’t get the part, I can tell you this. I was up for the role of Negan because Charlie Adlard, who worked on the comic book, based that guy on me and so I was a shoo-in for an audition,” said Rollins. “The internet was wild with speculation because in the upcoming season they were going to introduce the character. A woman that works in my office put my name and the character’s name into an internet search, and all this speculation came up. I went for the audition, and there were five pages of really cool dialogue with all these curses and it was beautiful, but I didn’t get it.”

I later saw a photograph of the guy who did get it, and he looks almost exactly like the comic book rendering,” Rollins added. “The woman at my office watched the episode where he turns up. The dialogue that I auditioned with was in the show, and she said, ‘It should have been you.’ Obviously it wasn’t or this conversation would be very different but that happened. I had to sign one of those documents where you can’t talk about it, but now it’s over and done with… so yeah, I was up for that part.”

How cool would THAT have been?!

Spoof Trailer Documents The Canadian Purge

Whether you like the films or not, you must admit that the concept of The Purge franchise is pretty damn brilliant. The basic premise, as you’re well aware by now, is that literally ALL crime is legal for 12 hours each year, allowing citizens across America to get out all their aggression in one fell swoop. Make America great again!

This week, third installment The Purge: Election Year will put a topical spin on the concept, but before all that madness, we’ve got something a whole lot less violent for you to enjoy today. The fine folks over at Boo Ya Pictures just made a spoof trailer titled The Canadian Purge, and we can’t stop laughing aboot it.

Ever wonder what The Purge would be like in Canada?” the team wrote in the video’s description, summing up the basic idea of the faux trailer. “For the next 12 hours, ALL crime is legal… including texting and driving.”

What if Kevin Smith made a Purge movie? It might look a little something like this!

Dragons Swooping Down into Latest Call of Duty: Black Ops III DLC

As if the Call of Duty franchise needed to become any more awesome, Black Ops III’s DLC pack Descent has dragons. Yup, the big, fire-breathing reptiles are now a part of the bestselling FPS franchise of all-time.

Descent will be available from July 12 on PS4.

From the Press Release:
Look out below, Call of Duty fans! Descent, the third DLC pack for the best-selling console video game on next generation platforms*, Call of Duty: Black Ops III, arrives first on PlayStation 4 on July 12, with other next-gen platforms to follow**. Call of Duty: Black Ops III Descent, from Activision Publishing, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Activision Blizzard, Inc., drops players into four new unique, multiplayer maps and an all-new Zombies experience that continues the fan-favorite Origins storyline in an alternate-U.S.S.R. universe.

“One of things I love most about Treyarch is that the team just keeps going for it,” said Mark Lamia, Studio Head, Treyarch. “Descent doesn’t take its foot off the gas, serving up a flat-out scorching Zombies experience, as well as multiplayer map designs and gameplay opportunities that we think our fans are going to love.”

Call of Duty: Black Ops III Descent features four new multiplayer maps that take the momentum-based, chained movement system across the globe to unique settings that include a cryogenic prison, a Viking village frozen in time, a giant robot combat arena, and a modern-day reconstruction of an ancient Roman villa:

  • Empire: Treyarch adapts its Black Ops III movement system to the Call of Duty: Black Ops II fan favorite map Raid. The re-imagining of this classic, medium-sized map features an authentic Roman villa that has been “recreated by a modern-day eccentric billionaire,” where a classic map structure mixes with the new gameplay mechanics of Black Ops III.
  • Cryogen: Located far off the coast in the Dead Sea, an isolated compound holds some of the world’s most dangerous criminals in frozen isolation. Sentry towers keep watch over the small map’s circular design as frenetic combat is funneled around the prison’s cryogenic tubes, where opportunities for wall running attacks abound.
  • Berserk: Ancient sentinels from a lost civilization guard the entrance to Berserk, a Viking village frozen in time. Players will fight through blizzards and control the center bridge as they navigate this medium-sized map’s wooden buildings, deadly rocky outcroppings, and tight chokepoints.
  • Rumble: Gamers battle amongst larger-than-life mechanized warriors in Rumble, a stadium where giant robots battle to the roar of the crowd. This medium-sized map funnels high-speed combat to the central arena, where players battle their way through fallen mechs and pyrotechnics.

Descent also thrusts players into an alternate universe of Nikolai’s motherland, the 1940s Soviet Union, in the next highly anticipated chapter of the Origins Zombies saga, Gorod Krovi. Players face-off against a swarm of mechanized zombie infantry and dodge hell-fire from aerial dragon assaults, all in the middle of a raging battle within the remnants of Stalingrad. Gorod Krovi delivers the most exciting Zombies experience yet, filled with horrifying new enemies, exciting new gameplay mechanics, and an epic set of Zombie annihilating weapons.

Descent is now available for pre-order on PlayStation 4 at a discounted rate via the Call of Duty: Black Ops III DLC Season Pass***, which features four DLC Map Packs planned for the year, as part of the discounted bundle offered at a suggested retail price of $49.99. Individual pre-purchase of the DLC Map Packs, including Descent, is at a suggested retail price of $15. You can also pre-order Call of Duty: Black Ops III Descent for PlayStation 4 to receive an exclusive Gorod Krovi dynamic theme. Call of Duty: Black Ops III is rated M for Mature with Blood and Gore, Drug Reference, Intense Violence, and Strong Language.

Call of Duty: Black Ops III Descent launches on July 12 for PlayStation 4 games and entertainment system from Sony, with other next-gen platform availability to follow.

*Based on North American physical game sales as of April 1, 2016.
**Descent DLC content not available on PS3 or Xbox 360.

If you were amongst those lucky enough to attend Tuesday night’s delightful RiffTrax Live “Mystery Science Theater 3000” reunion, then you heard the news that RiffTrax will be returning to theaters around the country this August to battle Japan’s favorite giant insect, Mothra.

Attendees of the MST3K reunion even got a taste of things to come with a brief clip of Mothra using her mighty wings to send toy cars and cardboard cities flying as she destroyed Tokyo while RiffTraxers Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy, and Bill Corbett commented on the mighty moth’s unexplained hatred of Hot Wheels.

Fathom Events will present RiffTrax Live: Mothra in theaters August 18th at 8/7 Central. Tickets go on sale soon.

About RiffTrax Live: Mothra:
Fathom Events and RiffTrax are partnering to present RiffTrax Live: Mothra. Join Kevin, Bill, and Mike as they roast one of the most beloved (and bizarre!) Japanese monster classics, 1961’s Mothra. It tells the story of a group of explorers who travel to a remote island and kidnap two tiny women, thereby inciting the wrath of a giant larva which then swims the ocean, cocoons itself in downtown Tokyo, emerges as the titular Mothra, and destroys everything in its path. Yes, it’s a tale as old as time, but Mothra does it best!

Speaking of which, THR reports today that Lyft will be offering riders the once-in-a-lifetime chance to take a ride in the film’s brand new Ecto-1 mobile. Thanks to a partnership with Sony, Lyft users will soon be able to request a ride from the iconic vehicle, ahead of the film’s release.
