From the Press Release IFC Midnight announced today that the company is acquiring all North American and UK rights to director Chris James Thompson’s documentary THE JEFFREY DAHMER FILES. Thompson also produced the film with Jack Turner and co-wrote the screenplay with Andrew Swant and Joe Riepenhoff. Chris Smith and Barry Poltermann executive produced the project, which world premiered in competition at the 2012 SXSW Film Festival and also played the 2012 Hot Docs Film Festival in Toronto. IFC Midnight is planning an early 2013 release for the documentary.
In 1991 Jeffrey Dahmer was arrested in Milwaukee and sentenced to 957 years in prison for killing 17 people and dismembering their bodies. THE JEFFREY DAHMER FILES is a documentary that explores the city of Milwaukee by meeting those surrounding Dahmer during and after his hidden spree. Recollections from Milwaukee Medical Examiner Jeffrey Jentzen, Police Detective Patrick Kennedy, and neighbor Pamela Bass are interwoven with archival footage and everyday scenes from Dahmer’s life, working collectively to disassemble the facade of an ordinary man leading an ordinary existence.
Jonathan Sehring, President of Sundance Selects/IFC Films, said: “Chris James Thompson has made one of the creepiest documentaries of the year that lingers in the mind long after the film has ended. Synopsis Heidi, a blonde rock chick, DJs at a local radio station and, together with the two Hermans (Whitey and Munster), forms part of the "Big H Radio Team". A mysterious wooden box containing a vinyl record arrives for Heidi, "a gift from the Lords". She assumes it's a rock band on a mission to spread their word. As Heidi and Whitey play the Lords' record, it starts to play backwards, and Heidi experiences a flashback to a past trauma.
Later Whitey plays the Lords' record, dubbing them the Lords of Salem, and to his surprise, the record plays normally and is a massive hit with listeners.
The arrival of another wooden box from the Lords presents the Big H Team with free tickets, posters and records to host a gig in Salem. Soon Heidi and her cohorts find that the gig is far from the rock spectacle they're expecting: The original Lords of Salem are returning, and they're out for BLOOD.
Wondering just where the hell Stephen Sommers' adaptation of the Dean R. Koontz book Odd Thomas has been? Honestly, we all but forgot about it, but THR just gave us a grim reminder of reality.
As per the site:
The producers of Odd Thomas are suing several entities, alleging that they failed to provide [a shocking] $35 million that would have gone toward marketing and distributing the movie and paying back production loans. Two Out of Ten Prods., known at TOOT, and Fusion Films filed their lawsuit Monday in Los Angeles Superior Court, naming as defendants Outsource Media Group Fund, ABS Investment Group, individuals Craig Chang and Mark Bishop, and Outsource Media Group. The latter, referred to as OMG in the lawsuit, is run by principals Bradley Holmes, Dan Reardon, and Harrison Kordestani, an executive producer of lower-budget horrors and thrillers such as The Coffin, Already Dead, In a Dark Place and Intervention.
According to TOOT and Fusion, OMG pledged to spend $25 million on prints and advertising to support a release of Odd Thomas in the U.S. and another $10 million to partially refinance certain loans. Several deadlines came and went, but most of the money never materialized, according to the lawsuit, filed by the Law Offices of Alan S. Gutman in Beverly Hills.
The film stars Anton Yelchin, Addison Timlin, Willem Dafoe, Patton Oswalt, Curtis James Jackson III aka 50 Cent, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, and Nico Tortorella.
Odd Thomas centers on a short-order cook named Odd Thomas (Yelchin) who can commune with the dead, a secret only his girlfriend (Timlin) and the local police chief (Dafoe) know.

While not really a horror series, "Ripper Street" still has a lot to offer genre fans, so while we've cut back on our coverage of the show following its premiere on BBC America, some good news has come in that we just have to share!
Per Deadline, BBC One‘s Danny Cohen and Ben Stephenson have confirmed a second season order of "Ripper Street," just as the first season heads into the home stretch in the UK. The BBC America co-production will start shooting eight new episodes this spring for a 2014 air date. "Ripper Street" debuted on BBC America on January 19th, three weeks after its UK bow on BBC One.
Richard Warlow created and exec produces the series. Warlow said that the second season will “move forward into the 1890s: the death rattle of a century coming to a close, the labor pains of a modern world on the rise.” Executive producer Simon Vaughn said, “Partnering with BBC America was always our ideal scenario, and it has proven to be a wonderful decision. They have given the series an amazing launch in America, and we are delighted to be moving into Series Two together.”
"Ripper Street" is produced by Tiger Aspect and Lookout Point in association with BBC America. Will Gould and Polly Hill also exec produce. BBC Worldwide distributes internationally. From the Press Release Julia Garner has joined the cast of Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller’s Sin City: A Dame To Kill For, which is now filming in Austin at Rodriguez’s Troublemaker Studios. Garner, an up-and-comer whose credits include Martha Marcy May Marlene and The Perks of Being a Wallflower, will play a young stripper opposite Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s Johnny in the follow-up to 2005′s Sin City, adapted from Miller’s own graphic novel series.
Garner made her feature debut in Sean Durkin’s Martha Marcy May Marlene and nabbed roles last year in Wallflower and Not Fade Away. She recently hit Park City with Jim Mickle's cannibal pic We Are What We Are, bought by eOne out of Sundance last week. Garner also stars as a young Mormon teenager in Rebecca Thomas’s Berlin entry Electrick Children, which Phase 4 Films will be opening theatrically this March, and will next be seen in CBS Films’ horror sequel The Last Exorcism Part II, in theaters March 1.
Garner (pictured above) joins the previously announced Mickey Rourke as Marv, Jessica Alba as Nancy, Bruce Willis as Hartigan, Rosario Dawson as Gail and Jaime King as Goldie/Wendy and newcomers to the fold Josh Brolin as Dwight, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Johnny, Dennis Haysbert as Manute (replacing the late Michael Clarke Duncan), Jamie Chung as Miho, Chris Meloni, Crystal McCahill, Jeremy Piven, Ray Liotta, and Juno Temple in the Robert Rodriguez directed sequel.
The film will be released by Dimension Films in the US and Canada on October 4, 2013, and is produced by Robert Rodriguez's Quick Draw Productions, Aldamisa, AR Films, Miramax and Solipsist. International sales are through Aldamisa International.
Seeing Felicia Day again earlier this season on "Supernatural" was a real treat - and obviously the show's powers-that-be agree as she'll be returning a bit later this year.
Per TVLine, Ms. Day has booked a third visit to The CW’s "Supernatural." Her character, Charlie Bradbury, previously got caught up in Sam and Dean’s battle with Dick Roman and the Leviathans and then was stumbled upon by them inside a LARPing community. The third time around she will bring a case TO the Winchester brothers during the latter part of Season 8.
Though it's still enjoying a limited theatrical release, and doing quite well we might add, some early DVD and Blu-ray info for Don Coscarelli's John Dies at the End has hit the interwebs, and we have the skinny on what to expect.
DVD Active reports that Magnolia Home Entertainment has announced DVD ($26.98) and Blu-ray ($29.98) releases of John Dies at the End for April 2nd. Extras will include an audio commentary with director Don Coscarelli, producer Brad Baruh, Chase Williamson, and Rob Mayes; deleted scenes; a 'Behind-the-Scenes' featurette; a 'Monster Design' featurette; Fangoria interviews with director Don Coscarelli and Paul Giamatti; an AXS TV Look at John Dies at the End; and trailers.

Hot on the heels of the Russian one-sheet, we now have the first international teaser trailer for Renny Harlin's The Dyatlov Pass Incident. Be warned that there are no subtitles, but after a few shots of vodka, you probably won't care!
The fact-based film concerns a mysterious incident in 1959, when nine experienced hikers were found dead. It finds contemporary students on a trek to investigate the mystery. Producers are Alexander Rodnyansky, Kia Jam, Harlin, and Sergei Bespalov.
Harlin said: "I was fascinated by this story, which remains one of the great unsolved mysteries of modern paranormal lore. The facts, the script, and the very dramatic setting convinced me that there is a thrilling movie there, just waiting to rivet audiences."
Curious? Want to know a bit more? In a nutshell the Dyatlov Pass Incident (as it is known) refers to an unsolved mystery that occurred in the northern Urals which saw a group of ski hikers tear open their tent from the inside and leave barefoot in a heavy snowstorm. Though there was no sign of a struggle, two victims had fractured skulls, one was missing her tongue, and clothing belonging to the victims contained high levels of radiation. Soviet investigators concluded that "a compelling unknown force" had caused their deaths.

On Friday, February 1st, Summit Entertainment is releasing its feature film adaptation of Isaac Marion's wonderfully clever zombie novel Warm Bodies with director Jonathan Levine at the helm.
Levine's first feature, All the Boys Love Mandy Lane, has become an instantaneous cult classic due to the fact the film has still yet to be released (can someone get on that, PLEASE?), and since then he has gone on to helm several successful projects including The Wackness and 50/50.
During a recent press day for Warm Bodies, Dread Central caught up with Levine for his roundtable interview, where we heard more about what attracted him to Marion's original story and his thoughts on his casting choices for Warm Bodies. We also spoke to him briefly about whether or not he thinks horror fans will ever get to see Mandy Lane and much more.

Question: Can you talk about balancing the tone and the awkwardness of this character [R, played by Nicholas Hoult] as he tries to relate to Julie in this world?
Jonathan Levine:Yeah, I think that what attracted me the most to this project was that awkwardness. But I also think that once you have that central core element that makes this so smart, you realize there's a lot to this story. R is just this shy guy; he's trapped inside this body which is something I think a lot of guys can relate to. It's something I can relate to, and so that acts as bit of a guidepost against all of the other noise that could have potentially derailed the movie. That to me was one of the main reasons I did the movie- the metaphor of what zombie-ism represents here.
Also, I think on a certain level Warm Bodies asks what it means to be alive, which is something I certainly tackle every single day, like whether it's the fact that my strongest relationship in my life right now is with my iPhone. I mean, I love my girlfriend, but I talk to my iPhone way more than I talk to her (laughs). So really this is about what it means to be alive and are you making the most of every moment that you can.
I think the character that Nick [Hoult] plays is far more alive than a lot of the humans we all encounter on a daily basis. If you look around a Starbucks, you'll notice you're surrounded by zombies (laughs). And so that's what I really enjoyed about it.
Question: What made Teresa [Palmer] perfect for the role of Julie then?
Jonathan Levine:Well, not only is she terribly charismatic, but she had come in and read for me for The Wackness, and really, it had come down to her and Olivia [Thirlby] so I never forgot about Teresa ever since that. So she had this incredible charisma and had this amazing effervescence that I thought was really important to have playing opposite Nick. I was really scared that when you have a case of one person who isn't talking at all, it's almost like the other person really has to carry those scenes themselves, and it can be a very challenging role for an actor to do something like this. But I just thought she did great with this role that was so full of life but really had some soul to it as well.
Question: And what about for Nick then?
Jonathan Levine:Well, without Nick I don't think I would have done the movie. If that [his performance as a zombie] fails, it really fails so spectacularly that I don't think I'd ever work again or something. But I did a working session with him at my house before we started production, and there was this moment when we were chatting - I already liked him a lot just from meeting him - and we just realized it was that moment where he had to pretend to be a zombie and I had to watch him do it. And I just remember thinking that this was the weirdest professional thing I had ever done, but he did it and it was great. He just went for it; he aggressively went for it, and I think that a lot of people would have been scared of this role.
There's also something just so relatable about Nick, too; you feel for him because there's something about him that you can't help but empathize with him even though he's a zombie. And he had a lot of the physical stuff already. We did some stuff where Nick, Rob [Corddry], and I worked with a movement coach a bit, and it was an incredible testament to them both that they didn't completely crack up every time they had to try a new exercise. I have some video that will never see the light of day (laughs).
Question: How did you get John Malkovich to agree to be in a zombie movie?
Jonathan Levine:Well, Summit has a great relationship with John, and I always knew that I wanted to get someone in of a certain caliber or stature for this role. I remember talking to him the first time - and he's not just an actor but also a storyteller, too - and he said that he really liked the story because it felt like something his theatre company might produce. And I think he gravitates towards material that isn't always 'easy,' and I think he realized this was something special, which I was very grateful for. Seeing the last movie that he produced, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, I can just see what his tastes are and why he'd like a project like Warm Bodies. It was such an amazing opportunity to work with him.
Question: Do you feel like because you've found success with other mainstream projects like 50/50 and The Wackness (and hopefully this movie) that we may finally get to see All the Boys Love Mandy Lane released at some point soon?
Jonathan Levine:Yeah, I think so, but I don't think it necessarily ties in to how I do as a director. I think eventually they'll disentangle the rights and people will get to see it. It has a great cult following from the people who have seen it, and there's almost this 'legend' now of people who haven't been able to see it, too, which is kind of cool- almost like you have to meet a guy in an alley to get a copy or something (laughs).
But I do really hope Mandy Lane gets to see the light of day. It's not just for me because I've been fortunate enough to have had a great career so far since making it, but it's more about the actors who were in it because they all did such a fantastic job and their work deserves to be seen. I always imagined Mandy Lane to be this movie where college kids would take a few bong hits at the end of the night and just throw it on to watch late at night.
We can only hope that "Supernatural" is done with the mopey Sam storyline and he and Dean can get back to doing what they do best: hunting monsters! But first the brothers will be meeting the grandfather they never knew in this week's Episode 8.12, "As Time Goes By."
