Synopsis

An entertaining take on the horror shooting genre, Zombie Typomaniac is a quick-play arcade game, which pitches a player's typing skills and quick reflexes against hordes of offbeat zombies. In this compelling (spelling) test of nerves and skill, the player's goal is to rid the town of its zombie infestation once and for all. Help comes courtesy of a variety of bonus health and weapon drops, but when the horde is bearing down it's the player's fast fingers which bring the firepower.

An international trailer for Neil Jordan's Byzantium (review here) has finally arrived on the interwebs, and we've gotta say it's looking pretty good. Lord knows its stars look beyond good. Get out your stakes, and check it out!

Byzantium, written by Moira Buffini and directed by Neil Jordan, stars Gemma Arterton, Saoirse Ronan, Caleb Landry Jones, Danny Mays, Jonny Lee Miller, Tom Hollander, Bradley James, and Sam Riley in the vampire flick wherein Arterton stars as Clara, a vampire who has to protect herself and her daughter (Ronan) from those seeking to plunge a stake through their hearts.

IFC picked the film up for U.S. distribution so stay tuned for release news.

Synopsis

Vin Diesel has posted yet another image from the upcoming movie Riddick via his Facebook page, and this one finds our Furian anti-hero in a rather precarious situation. He may be down, but we're sure he's not out!

Riddick stars Vin Diesel and is based on a script by David Twohy, who wrote both Chronicles of Riddick and Pitch Black, where he first created the character of Riddick.

Joining Diesel are a returning Karl Urban (Star Trek) as Vaako; Jordi Molla as Santana, the arrogant captain of the mercenary ship; Matt Nable (Killer Elite) as Boss Johns, a man looking for answers; Katee Sackhoff (TV's "Battlestar Galactica") as the Nordic mercenary Dahl; and Bokeem Woodbine (Total Recall) as bounty hunter Moss. Rounding out the cast are Dave Bautista (The Scorpion King 3: Battle for Redemption), Conrad Pla (Immortals), Raoul Trujillo (Apocalypto), Nolan Funk (Aliens in America), and two-time Grammy Award-nominated singer Keri Hilson.

Synopsis:
Diesel reprises his role as the antihero Riddick, a dangerous, escaped convict wanted by every bounty hunter in the known galaxy. Ax, directed by Michael Coulombe, stars Todd James Jackson and Marita Gomsrud and, along with Carvin and By the C, is produced by Coulombe, Bear Claw Films, and Marissa Garay. The cinematographer is Candace Higgins. Look for the finished product in the spring of this year.

Home invasion thrillers are tough to do well, but Hate Crime seems to be on the right track, having already won awards at several film festivals. If you're a fan of the sub-genre, check out this batch of posters and the trailer for the film.

Hate Crime is the second feature directed by 20-year-old indie filmmaker James Cullen Bressack, who describes it as "a labor of love from a dedicated group of people looking to make something different. Hate Crime is a violent, realistic portrayal of one of our worst nightmares, being attacked in our home. Despite being extremely well received by the horror community, this film has fought a lot of controversy due to its extreme content, almost being banned in the UK; has been pulled off the screens at festivals before even showing due to content and theatre management not willing to show the movie the festival booked; and has faced some trouble finding distribution since the shooting in Connecticut. We actually lost a distribution deal that was on the table due to that horrible tragedy."

The European Film Market is right around the corner, and with it comes some neat news. After over five years of silence, it's with a near complete state of disbelief that we announce an official sales one-sheet for the Wesley Snipes movie Gallowwalkers has arrived.

Directed by Andrew Goth and starring Wesley Snipes, Diamond Dallas Page, Simona Brhlikova, and Jonathan Garcia, Gallowwalkers is the story of a man (Snipes) who is cursed to have to deal with the zombified corpses of all those he’s ever killed. He enlists the help of a young warrior to help him put the dead back in the ground where they belong.

Courtney Lauren Penn and Brandon Burrows of bi-coastal Boundless Pictures produced, and UK-based Jack Bowyer served as executive producer.

We told you about the film adaptation of the Richelle Mead novel series Vampire Academy, which is written by Daniel Waters (Heathers) and directed by his brother, Mean Girls helmer Mark Waters, a while ago, and now we have some casting news.

Per Deadline, an international search led the producers to Zoey Deutch (Beautiful Creatures) and Australian newcomer Lucy Fry. They will play lead characters Rose and Lissa alongside Russian star Danila Kozlovski (We Are from the Future), who will play the role of Dimitri.

The film will be produced by Michael Preger and his Preger Entertainment banner, Angry Films’ Don Murphy and Susan Montford, and Kintop Pictures’ Deepak Nayer. IM Global’s Stuart Ford is executive producer. “Tonally this so different from all these movies that are so solemn and serious,” IM Global’s Ford said. “This is as much Mean Girls as The Hunger Games. It is snappy, irreverent, sexy, and just a lot of fun. And we got the right director for that kind of movie.”

“It was the best first draft I had ever read, and that includes other screenplays by my brother,” Mark Waters said. “This is a dream project for us since we have wanted to work together for so long. Richelle’s mythology and the world she creates is so real and her voice so clear. These kids have real life, modern day problems. And they drink blood.”

Another comics-to-film adaptation is back on track as Valiant Entertainment Group has brought back Stephen Susco to write a script for its Harbinger comic series adaptation with Brett Ratner set to develop and possibly direct.

Per Variety, Susco originally developed and Brett Ratner was originally attached to direct when the project was at Paramount, but underlying rights issues in the wake of the Fox/WB lawsuit over Watchmen stalled the project.

The hit Valiant comic books were created by Jim Shooter. It's a dark and modern twist on the mutant/superhero mythology and follows Pete Stanchek, a teenager- turned-superhero and his battle with a equally powerful industrialist.

Alexandra Milchan will produce along with Valiant Entertainment Group chief creative officer Dinesh Shamdasani. Rat entertainment's John Cheng is executive producing.

Harbinger: The Beginning Synopsis:
Harbingers are human beings with extraordinary powers of the mind. Throughout history, their dangerous abilities tended to lie dormant, emerging in occasional bursts that are brought on by stress. This all changes when Japanese tycoon Toyo Harada, the world's most powerful Harbinger, establishes the Harbinger Foundation. The organization's vast power and resources are dedicated to train other Harbingers and promote Harada's vision of world betterment, no matter the cost. Soon after, the Foundation discovers the existence of teenager Peter Stanchek, the only Harbinger who can rival Harada's own Godlike powers.

We're intrigued by Alex Karpovsky's Rubberneck, a film he co-wrote, directed, and starred in, and if you are as well, then mark your calendar for February 19th, which is when Tribeca Film is releasing it nationwide via all the usual On Demand platforms.

Not to be confused with the upcoming Showtime series bearing the title “Penny Dreadful” or the After Dark HorrorFest entry of the same name, The Penny Dreadful Picture Show is a new horror anthology starring Sid Haig, Jeffrey Combs, and ex-wrestler Al Snow.

That Penny Dreadful sure is a popular gal these days!

The Penny Dreadful Picture Show includes three tales of terror, each set in a different decade. Your host is the delightfully creepy Penny Dreadful and her twisted friends Dead Ned and Wolfboy. Horror film legends Sid Haig and Jeffery Combs join actors Al Snow, Collin Galyean, Josh Hammond, Barry Ratcliffe, Sam Soule and Ramona Mallory on this voyage through the history of cinema and your darkest nightmares.

What the actual segments are about is still a bit of a mystery, but it appears the 1970’s segment deals with a vanload of people falling victim to maniacs, and there’s a 1980’s Spielberg-ian homage about Boy Scouts on a “snipe” hunt encountering a terrifying creature in the woods.

Each segment comes to us from a directors Leigh Scott (Dorothy and the Witches of Oz), Nick Everhart, and Eliza Swenson, who also stars as the anthology’s hostess Penny Dreadful and composed the film’s musical score.

We’ve got some stills and a brief trailer that’s really more of a teaser, but like any good teaser it shows just enough to make me want to see more. The Penny Dreadful Picture Show looks like it could be a lot of fun.

Conan fans have a lot to look forward to. In addition to The Legend of Conan coming in 2014, Dark Horse Comics has lined up writer Timothy Truman, artist Tomás Giorello, and colorist José Villarrubia to adapt Robert E. Howard’s only Conan novel in two, six-issue miniseries.

The first series, titled The Hour of the Dragon, will run through October 2013 and continue in a second arc titled King Conan: The Conqueror starting in February 2014.

Issue #1 of The Hour of the Dragon goes on sale in comic stores everywhere May 29th.

What do you get when producer Charles Band, writer David S. Goyer, and director Albert Pyun decide to do their own horror version of Tron? If you didn’t answer Arcade, then you clearly do not know your Full Movie catalogue.

1993’s Arcade starred grown-up A Christmas Story star Peter Billingsley, Full Moon cutie Megan Ward, and future “Robot Chicken” mastermind Seth Green as teens fighting for their mortal souls after being sucked into a sinister video game created by “Star Trek: The Next Generation” troublemaker John de Lancie.

I distinctly remember Arcade being regularly advertised during Video Zone segments at the end of numerous Full Moon releases of the time and being frustrated because its release was constantly being delayed, reportedly, due to dissatisfaction with the computer effects. I even more distinctly remember watching the movie when it finally came out and... Let’s just say I’ve always liked this film in theory more than execution.

However, I am a big fan of the end credits song, “Fear”, by Matt Wegner. A song that is sadly only available on a rare soundtrack so out-of-print good luck even finding a copy and during the film’s end credits, from which I culled this particular B-Sides.

"The Vampire Diaries" spin-off "The Originals" is casting up, and the latest addition is Daniella Pineda, who has landed a regular role in the potential series, the backdoor pilot for which airs April 25th.

"The Originals" stars Joseph Morgan, Daniel Gillies, and Phoebe Tonkin, all of whom are reprising their roles on "TVD" of brothers Klaus and Elijah and werewolf Hayley, respectively. Written by "TVD" co-creator/executive producer Julie Plec, "The Originals" centers on the Original family of vampires as Klaus returns to the supernatural melting pot that is the French Quarter of New Orleans — a town he helped build centuries ago — and is reunited with his diabolical former protégé, Marcel. Elijah, intent on helping his self-destructive sibling find redemption, must side with Marcel’s enemies in order to keep Klaus in line.

According to Deadline, Pineda ((Fitzgerald Family Christmas), "Homeland") will play Sophie, a witch whose magic has been silenced but not snuffed. A leader and a sexy, sharp-tongued social force, she is quietly sowing the seeds of a revolution amongst her peers.

Meanwhile, in the parallel worlds of the show-within-a-show, the cult’s ruthless leader, Billy Grimm, is played by actor Roger Reeves (the double role of Billy/Roger is played by Robert Knepper (“Prison Break,” “Shameless”), a man whose primary agenda is winning back his former follower and lover, Kelly Collins, played by actress Marti Gerritsen (the double role of Kelly/Marti is played by Alona Tal (“Supernatural,” “The Killing”). Since escaping from the cult, Kelly has become an LAPD detective who finds herself drawn back into an investigation of the group’s activities as she struggles to keep Billy at a safe distance. As the television show grows in popularity, cast members Roger and Marti begin to feel the effects in their “real” lives.
