Lionsgate just dropped us a line to let us know they have two new features poised and ready for their DVD and digital download debuts on May 21st. Read on for the latest on one of the After Dark Originals, Dark Circles, and Cool Air.

After Dark Films presents a twisted reality in Dark Circles arriving on DVD, Digital Download and Video on Demand May 21st from Lionsgate Home Entertainment. This supernatural horror film stars Pell James (The Lincoln Lawyer), Johnathon Schaech (That Thing You Do), Jennifer Foreman (Angry Little God) and Philippe Brenninkmeyer (Beerfest). The Dark Circles DVD includes audio commentary with writer/director Paul Soter and will be available for the suggested retail price of $26.98.

Synopsis
When new parents Alex and Penny retreat from the city and move into a place outside town, the stress and massive sleep-deprivation caused by their infant has both of them seeing things in the house that may or may not exist. Persistent sightings of a strange woman has each of them wondering if they are suffering from hallucinations, or if their new home holds a dark, supernatural presence. As their fragile grasp on reality spirals into delirium, Alex and Penny find themselves nearly helpless to deal with the horrific truth of what is really happening in the house.

Sometimes we get things in the mail around here that are simply to die for. This is one of those times. The official Press Kit for A&E's new series based upon Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho entitled "The Bates Motel" has arrived, and it's so cool we had to share.

A&E Network will premiere the new original scripted drama series “Bates Motel” from executive producers Carlton Cuse (“Lost”) and Kerry Ehrin (“Friday Night Lights”) on Monday, March 18th, at 10 PM ET/PT. “Bates Motel” is a contemporary prequel to the genre-defining film Psycho and promises to give viewers an intimate portrayal of how Norman Bates’ psyche unravels through his teenage years. This weekend while Disney is hoping you’ll flock in droves to see Sam Raimi’s Oz: The Great and Powerful, Syfy will be premiering a new Oz-inspired creature feature that I suspect Sam Raimi would approve of: Flying Monkeys!

Robert Rodriguez’s niece-in-law Electra Avellan (aka one of the babysitter twins from Grindhouse), TV’s “The Invisible Man” Vincent Ventresca, and actor stuntman Alvin Chon star in the Syfy Original Movie about a teenage girl living in Gale, Kansas, who gets a new pet monkey that turns out to be an evil, flying shapeshifter.

Visual effects supervisor Robert Grasmere makes his directorial debut with this new spin on the creatures made famous as the Wicked Witch of the West’s henchmonsters. What, if anything, this Syfy flick has to do with the Land of Oz outside of mean monkeys with wings remains to be seen.

Heather Wixson. Honestly, this "horror chick" is a bit of an enigma. Where she finds the time to get the amount of things done that she does is beyond me, but I can tell you that we are beyond thrilled to have her on our team and love her more than words can fully illustrate.

Indie films have always been a passion of hers, and as a result several years ago she came to me with an idea to make the month of March officially Indie Horror Month. Over the years the feature has grown immensely, and for 2013 it came out guns blazing with the first ever CineMayhem Film Festival, which took place March 2nd and 3rd at the Muvico Thousand Oaks located at 166 West Hillcrest Drive, Thousand Oaks, CA.

To say we were proud to be a part of something like this is an understatement. With the festival Heather was able to offer prime theatrical time and space to filmmakers who normally wouldn't have the resources to get their films shown on the big screen. Indie films are our genre's life's blood because you just never know where the next master of horror is going to come from. The main difference between indie films and studio-driven fare is that we've seen time and time again that a filmmaker with some imagination and inspiration can easily trump a half-baked project with a bloated budget. Every second and every dime counts when it comes to independent projects, and the CineMayhem line-up of films, both short and feature length, underscored this fact in the most sterling way imaginable.

Some quick casting news has rolled in for The CW's "The Tomorrow People" pilot as Deadline is reporting that 21-year-old actor Aaron Yoo has joined the show to play Russell, resident badboy of the "Tomorrow People" who is a lightning bolt of energy and fun.

Yoo joins the previously announced Madeleine Mantock, Robbie Amell, and Mark Pellegrino.

Written/exec produced by Phil Klemmer based on the cult British series, exec produced by Julie Plec and Greg Berlanti, and directed/exec produced by Danny Cannon, "The Tomorrow People" is about several young people from around the world who represent the next stage in human evolution and work together to defeat the forces of evil. Pellegrino will play Dr. Jedikiah Price, an evolutionary biologist committed to containing the threat posed by the “Tomorrow People,” whom he believes to be a grave danger to the human race.

Casting news continues for NBC's "The Sixth Gun" as three more have signed up for active duty in this latest supernatural western. Read on for the skinny on who will be bringing the hot lead to this genre mash-up.

Deadline is reporting that Pedro Pascal ("The Good Wife"), "Ally McBeal" and Phantasm II alum James LeGros and Chin Han (The Dark Knight) have been cast in NBC‘s Carlton Cuse-produced pilot "The Sixth Gun."

Written by Ryan Condal based on the comic, directed by Jeffrey Reiner and produced by Universal TV, the supernatural Western follows the story of six mythical guns, each with its own other-worldly powers. When the Sixth Gun, the most powerful and dangerous of the group, resurfaces in the hands of an innocent girl, a farmer’s daughter named Becky Montcrief (Laura Ramsey), dark forces reawaken. Pascal will play Special Agent Ortega, the younger of the two Pinkerton detectives who follows Mercer’s (Aldis Hodge) lead. LeGros will play Bill John O’Henry, a gunslinger who is a fervently loyal companion and sidekick to Drake Sinclair. Chin Han plays Chow, a brilliant Machiavellian schemer.

The Sixth Gun Volume #1 Synopsis:

Starz has released a new featurette for its upcoming original series “Da Vinci’s Demons,” premiering Friday, April 12th. The series is created by David S. Goyer and presents a never-before-seen portrayal of one of the most infamous historical figures of all time… Leonardo da Vinci.

"Supernatural" Episode 8.17 - "Goodbye Stranger" (airs 3/20/13, 9-10 pm)
Castiel (Misha Collins) reappears in Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean’s (Jensen Ackles) life and tells them Crowley (guest star Mark Sheppard) has unleashed several demons into a small town. The demons are looking for Lucifer’s Crypt, which holds a valuable asset, but Castiel lies to Sam and Dean about what it is.

While interrogating a demon, the three discover Crowley has been torturing Meg (guest star Rachel Miner), who knows the exact location of the crypt. Sam and Meg fight to hold Crowley off while Dean and Castiel go in search of the crypt.

Thomas J. Wright directed the episode written by Robbie Thompson.

A new featurette has made its way online in promotion of Fox Searchlight’s Stoker, and given that the little flick has performed pretty well at the box office in limited release, hopefully the studio will be opening it a bit wider.

Wentworth Miller penned the tale. Mia Wasikowska, Nicole Kidman, Matthew Goode, Jacki Weaver, Lucas Till, Dermot Mulroney, Phyllis Somerville, and Alden Ehrenreich star in the film directed by Park Chan-wook.

Stoker is the first in a planned trilogy. Park Chan-wook is the Korean master of genre cinema, having directed Oldboy, Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance and Lady Vengeance, along with Thirst and JSA.

Look for the flick in theatres on March 1st, 2013.

With director Brad Anderson’s thriller The Call opening wide on March 15th, we sat down with the director and stars Halle Berry, Morris Chestnut, and Abigail Breslin to discuss the film this past Saturday at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills, CA. Read on for more!

Berry, who portrays in The Call a 911 operator drawn into the abduction of a young girl by a serial killer, chatted with us about her preparation for the role, her working relationship with co-star Abigail Breslin, her reaction to Franco-Giacomo Carbone’s production design, and more.

Breslin, who received an Oscar nomination for her work in 2006’s Little Miss Sunshine and whose genre credits include the feature films Signs and Zombieland, portrays the abductee, and Chestnut, whose genre credits include his turn as "Luke" in “American Horror Story” Season 1, and who first came to the public’s attention in 1991 with his starring turn in John Singleton’s acclaimed feature Boyz n the Hood, chatted with us about his preparation for the role of Officer Paul Phillips.

Finally, Anderson, whose impressive genre credits include the features Session 9, The Machinist and Transsiberian, chatted with us about his approach in keeping the tension ratcheted high in The Call, the film’s third act horror elements, his working relationship with stars Berry and Breslin, and more.

Another human has been added to the ever growing cast of Fox's sequel to the hit Rise of the Planet of the Apes as Dark Skies' Keri Russell has joined the homo-sapien rebellion!

Russell will take the female lead opposite Andy Serkis, Kodi-Smit McPhee, William Clarke, and Gary Oldman. Fox’s upcoming sequel is set 15 years after the events of Rise of the Planet of the Apes. The plot is for the most part under wraps, but we do know two aspects of it... One focus is on the group of human scientists who are struggling to survive alone in San Francisco. Another aspect of the story is the struggle of intelligent ape Caesar, played by Serkis, to maintain dominance over his kingdom.

Matt Reeves (who also worked with McPhee in Let Me In), stepping into the shoes originally worn by Rupert Wyatt, is directing the sequel to Fox’s 2011 hit. Amanda Silver and Rick Jaffa, who penned the first installment, wrote the initial draft for Dawn. Scott Burns had written a draft for Wyatt, but when Reeves came on board, the studio and producers wanted something tailored specifically for him and hired Mark Bomback to do a rewrite. It should also be noted that Bomback did some uncredited script doctoring on Rise. Peter Chernin is back as producer.

Fox has set a May 23, 2014, release date.

No matter how much people complain the zombie craze has reached a saturation point, something comes along and you realize it still has yet to fully hit its zenith. Take for example Afterlife with Archie, an upcoming comic book in which Riverdale gets The Walking Dead treatment.

You just can’t make this stuff up anymore. Archie, Betty, Veronica, Jughead, and the rest of the Riverdale kids will be forced to contend with zombies in a new comic book series launching later this year. It sounds like the basis for a Teefury mash-up shirt, doesn’t it? Nope. This is actually happening, and here’s how:

Jughead’s beloved pooch Hotdog is run over by Reggie in his roadster. He convinces Sabrina to hatch a spell to bring back the pooch, but when Hotdog bites Jughead, he soon craves flesh.

Deadline reportsAfterlife with Archie will be scripted by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. He seems to be the perfect scribe for the job as he has experience writing about teenage life, having worked on “Glee”. He also has experience with teen horror, having penned the screenplay for the upcoming Carrie remake. And he know a little something about trying to make the best out of a potentially ill-conceived idea, having been the fix-it man brought in to try to salvage the initially disastrous Broadway musical Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark.

Aguirre-Sacasa told Deadline that this comic book “combines two of my great passions, Archie comics and horror comics. We’re also told to expect the gore aspect to be combined with elements that are “quintessentially Archie”.

Why do I have a weird feeling that if this comic book is successful within six months of publication I’m going to find myself writing a story about how Timur Bekmambetov and Tim Burton have optioned the movie rights?

I personally hope that Afterlife with Archie expands its universe to also include other old timey comic book characters that would fit in amongst the zombie apocalypse. Like have Casper, the Friendly Ghost guiding the Riverdale kids to safety in a world now overrun by the undead. Dennis the Menace shows up as their version of “The Governor,” armed with a lethal slingshot and with the head of Mr. Wilson in a jar that he still talks to. Do a story arc where they hide out in Richie Rich’s panic room, but that goes bad when the world’s richest boy decides he doesn’t want to die a virgin and develops an unhealthy obsession with Veronica. Have the storyline conclude with the reveal that Sabrina deliberately unleashed hell on earth because she’s now the mistress of Hot Stuff. I mean, Hot Stuff is a little boy devil; he’s bound to go evil at some point.

Charles Band is back in the director’s chair and you’ll be shocked, SHOCKED, to find out the title character of Ooga Booga is a murderous action figure. But there’s a twist – this killer toy is on a mission of racial vengeance.

The bodies begin to pile up as Ooga Booga slices and dices his way through crooked cops, meth heads and demented city officials in order to clear his name. Racists, beware! You won't even have enough time to scream, "Ooga Booga!"

Ooga Booga first graced the screen in Band’s Doll Graveyard. I guess it must have proved to be the most popular new puppet menace introduced by Full Moon of late to spin-off into its own film. Personally, I would have preferred seeing Gingerdead Man 2’s Haunted Dildo get its own film.

Stacy Keach, Karen Black, porn star Siri are the notable co-stars you’ll see be victimized by Ooga Booga starting March 26th when the film is officially released. I write “officially” because you won’t actually have to wait until then to see it. From March 12th until March 26th, Ooga Booga will be available for $1.99 rental/$7.99 purchase via Band’s new online streaming service GrindhouseFlix.

Synopsis:
