Jug Face Finds a Digital Home at Gravitas VenturesSundance Festival favorite Jug Face has scored itself a home, and to celebrate, we have a new still and all the details you need to find out about when you'll be able to pet this sick puppy for yourself. Read on!

Read our Jug Face review here!

From the Press Release
Gravitas Ventures has announced they have acquired U.S. VOD rights to JUG FACE, the tense horror-thriller that was written and directed by Chad Crawford Kinkle. The film was produced by Andrew van den Houten (Funeral Kings, The Woman) and Robert Tonino (Home Movie, Ghoul) for Modernciné and stars Lauren Ashley Carter (The Woman), Sean Bridgers (“Deadwood”), Sean Young (Blade Runner), Larry Fessenden (I Sell the Dead) and Daniel Manche (The Girl Next Door). The film was executive produced by Lucky McKee, Arrien Schiltkamp and Loren Semmens. JUG FACE won the Slamdance Grand Prize Screenwriting Award in 2011 and debuted as a Special Screening selection at this year’s festival. The film is slated for a July pre-theatrical VOD premiere, followed by a national theatrical rollout.

Ada, her family and a small isolated backwoods community worship a mysterious pit. The pit has the power to heal and protect all who honor it but at a deadly price... it demands an occasional sacrifice. The pit communicates through the local potter who, while in a trance, crafts ceramic jugs that carry the face of a person to be sacrificed to the entity that lives within it. Ada has a secret about the latest jug face that she's determined to keep hidden, but the pit demands a sacrifice and unleashes an evil onto the community until it gets who it really wants.

Jug Face Finds a Digital Home at Gravitas Ventures

The deal for the U.S. VOD rights was negotiated by Gravitas Ventures' Nolan Gallagher and Andrew van den Houten, President of Modernciné.

“Modernciné is proud to be pairing with Gravitas to release this incredibly original film by Chad Crawford Kinkle. Gravitas understands how to release into the digital marketplace better than most distributors in the business. We are confident that our theatrical release, in conjunction with their heightened VOD release, will give this unique film a chance to find a very large audience,” said Modernciné’s van den Houten.

"We are thrilled to be collaborating with the Modernciné team on the undeniably unique JUG FACE. As longtime fans of horror films that break the mold, we are happy to follow the Pit's wishes and bring JUG FACE to a mass VOD audience," said Gravitas' Nolan Gallagher.

Additional rights have yet to be assigned and will be announced shortly. T.C. Rice will be working for Modernciné booking the film theatrically in U.S. markets.

Rampaging Dinos Deliver the Goods in the Shockingly Great Looking Trailer for The Asylum's Age of Dinosaurs

Rampaging Dinos Deliver the Goods in the Shockingly Great Looking Trailer for The Asylum's Age of DinosaursHaving seen my fair share of dinosaur movies made for Syfy and even by The Asylum, I can only marvel at the quality of most of the dino f/x on display in the trailer for The Asylum’s Age of Dinosaurs.

They may not quite be Jurassic Park quality, but damn, this really does look like it’s going to be a lot of fun if you love rampaging dino flicks. See for yourself.

Either The Asylum spent more money on Age of Dinosaurs than they typically do on their productions or director Joseph Lawson is once again proving why he’s the top inmate at The Asylum. Having already given us a fairly solid fantasy flick in the form of the lawsuit-baiting Age of the Hobbits AKA Lord of the Elves AKA Clash of the Empires AKA better than it had any given right to be, as well as the astounding awesomeness that was robot Hitler in Nazis at the Center of the Earth, Lawson appears poised to once again deliver some top flight b-moviemaking with a movie that looks to be entirely what we all really wanted Jurassic Park 2 to be, not just its final 15 minutes.

Using breakthrough flesh-regeneration technology, a biotech firm creates a set of living dinosaurs. But when the creatures escape their museum exhibit and terrorize Los Angeles, a former firefighter must rescue his teenage daughter from the chaos brought on by the Age of Dinosaurs.

Robocop nemesis Ronny Cox is the creator of the dinos. Deep Rising hero Treat Williams is the ex-firefighter turned dinosaur hunter out to save the City of Angels and his own little angel from the jaws and claws of regenerated reptiles from before time.

I've got nothing to add to this article than to just watch the trailer and become a believer.

The Age of Dinosaurs begins on DVD, VOD, and Blu-ray May 7th.

Dread Central: A Resurrection felt a bit like Pumpkinhead meets I Know What You Did Last Summer- what inspired your story?

Matt Orlando:You know, I honestly don’t know where my ideas come from, but this was one that had been in my head for a while. I like gore and all that stuff in my horror movies, but I wanted to do something a little different for my first movie. But it wasn't something based on just one incident or anything like that. I wanted to build this feeling of dread very slowly and have it boil over by the very end.

So many horror movies these days are just a guy running around and killing random people, and while I like those movies, I just wanted to go into something a little more deeper with my first film; I wanted this to feel so believable and I wanted to make sure everyone in this reacted like a normal person would. You see that all the time in horror movies- people making bad choices left and right- so I made sure to take my time and tell this story the right way.

Dread Central: You're working with a pretty large cast and have a rather ambitious story, too, in A Resurrection; considering this was your first time at bat as a director, was managing all that daunting to take on?

Matt Orlando:For some reason it really wasn't; we DID have a larger cast in this - large for an independent horror movie, that's for sure - and I think it was because we had the right actors involved with this that could just come in and work a scene so confidently that it gave me some extra confidence while shooting too. For me, the biggest challenge was always that were just racing against time to get everything shot and completed so those were the moments that really pushed me.

We shot for 20 days total, but our first shoot was 16 days because that's all we had time for. We actually had to go back a year later because we needed to wait for there to be more snow; the catch ended up being that when we came back, there still wasn't any snow so we ended up having to work around that. But other than the snow, everything was just amazing; I can't wait to do it again.

Dread Central: So have you thought about where a sequel might go if you guys get to do it again?

Matt Orlando:Yeah, we’ve talked about a sequel here and there but nothing really concrete just yet. I've written down a few ideas, but that's all they are for now. I decided to go with the ending I did because it served the story, not because it would ensure we'd make a sequel. But I do think we could come up with something fun if we get the opportunity.

Dread Central: What are you working on now?

Matt Orlando:I've got two scripts that I'm working on right now. The first one is a surfing horror movie that I think could be a lot of fun. The second project I'm working on is called Abomination, and that's being looked at by Jamie Kennedy Entertainment right now; they were so supportive of this movie so hopefully we get to make that project with them too.

Dread Central: It sounds like you want to stay working in the horror genre in the future then?

Matt Orlando:Oh definitely; I love the feeling you get from watching horror movies. It's often exhilarating when it's done right, and it's the best genre to work in to be able to tell really imaginative stories that don't necessarily have to fit into a particular mold. There's a lot of freedom in horror and everyone loves getting scared.

Our mission statement with Buffalo Dreams remains the same – to bring the best independent genre films from around the world to Buffalo and shine a spotlight on local filmmakers who create quality films. Horror films will be a large part of our mix, but we want to showcase other genres as well, and now we can include westerns, martial arts, animation – anything that we consider cool.”

“Holding the festival at the Amherst Theatre is important to the festival’s success,” adds Scioli. “The theater is located across the street from the University of Buffalo South Campus and shows specialty films. We want to build the largest possible audience for the films we show, and the college demographic is key. Our goal is to program the best film festival in Western New York, and we’re making a long term commitment to build an event that will become a cultural fixture in this area.”

Buffalo Dreams Fantastic Film Festival will screen short, medium length, and feature films in competitive categories. Film submissions will be made through Without a Box, and the call for entries will be made soon. Keep your eyes on BuffaloDreamsFilmFest.com for updates.

B-Sides: Scary Movies Require Popcorn

B-Sides: Scary Movies Require PopcornAnyone that knows me knows of my unapologetic love for the 1991 horror movie love note to b-movies that is Popcorn. Even its end credits song sings the praises of why we all go to the movies, hoping to be scared by monsters and maniacs, tarantulas and brainiacs…

Popcorn is a slasher movie William Castle would have loved. It's directed by Mark Herrier and stars Jill Schoelen, Tom Villard, and Dee Wallace-Stone. Film students running a b-movie film festival showing three not-so-classic fake movies of old (Mosquito!, Attack of the Amazing Electrified Man, and The Stench), each with its own built-in audience participation gimmick, fall victim to a theatrical maniac by means that tie in with the film’s gimmick.

SPOILER! I mean, how many movies can boast they feature not one, but two - TWO - deaths by mosquito prop impalement?

Yeah, I heart this movie so much.

“Scary, Scary Movies” performed by Ossie D and Stevie G adorns the end credits with its mix of movie soundbites and reminders as to why you and I go to the movies to see these scary, scary movies on the silver screen.

Forget the silver screen; at this point I’d happily settle for a decent print of this movie on DVD or Blu-ray.

Indie Horror Month Exclusive: Producer Jamie Kennedy on A Resurrection, a Look Back at Scream and More

Indie Horror Month Exclusive: Producer Jamie Kennedy on A Resurrection, a Look Back at Scream and MoreConsidering he started off his career in the genre world, it's certainly fitting that now Jamie Kennedy is producing horror movies, including Matt Orlando's A Resurrection, which arrived in limited theaters this weekend.

Written and directed by first-time filmmaker Orlando, A Resurrection stars Mischa Barton, Devon Sawa, J. Michael Trautmann and Michael Clarke Duncan in his final role and follows a mentally ill student named Eli (Trautmann), who believes his recently deceased brother is returning from the grave for revenge on the students who killed him. The project was produced by Jamie Kennedy Entertainment and Levine Pictures.

Dread Central chatted with Kennedy earlier this week for Indie Horror Month to talk about his first indie horror production, A Resurrection, and what the future holds for Jamie Kennedy Entertainment as they continue to produce independent horror films. Since we had him on the phone, we couldn't help but get nostalgic with "Randy" and chat a bit about the original Scream as well. Check out the highlights from our exclusive interview below!

Dread Central: Congrats on transitioning into producing- what made you want to take the leap and what was it about A Resurrection that you thought felt like the right project to start off with?

Jamie Kennedy:I started off in the horror genre so I wanted to come back to my roots because horror fans are really the best and I thought it would be fun to reconnect with them again through some new movies. When they really love something and get behind it like Paranormal Activity or Cabin in the Woods, they really give that project legs, and there are no other fans where that happens.

So one of the producers on the project approached me about this and I read the script. Turns out, I really liked it because it wasn't the same old thing, and once I found out Matt wanted to direct too, I got really excited by being able to really give someone a chance to tell a cool story with this so I got involved soon after that. But all of this was really Matt's vision. I helped with financing and distribution, but the movie was all of his passion.

Dread Central: So collaborating with Matt went well then?

Jamie Kennedy:It went fantastically well; Matt really knew what he wanted to do and for a first-time director showed a lot of confidence. That’s why I loved working with him; he really knew how to make the movie look bigger than what it was shot for and created a fun and atmospheric scary movie that's really well crafted. I couldn't be happier and I hope we get to work together again. In fact, we may work together again- we're looking at a script of his right now called Abomination.

Dread Central: Did you help him with securing his cast at all?

Jamie Kennedy:Here and there, yes. I didn't know Mischa but I was familiar with her work so I was glad when she came aboard. I did know Devon; he's always been someone that I admired and respected so I was really happy that this role fit him so well. I knew Michael too and we were so lucky to have him on this project since he was such an amazing talent. It’s unfortunate that he is no longer with us but he was just a great guy all around. J. Michael Trautmann was also amazing in this and is going to be one of those kids who goes somewhere in his career. Keep an eye on that kid for sure.

Dread Central: Did you ever consider at all acting in A Resurrection?

Jamie Kennedy:You know, if there had been a part that fit, I definitely would have done it. But nothing in this seemed to fit and I never want to do a role if it doesn't seem like something that I'd be good for. Maybe in his next project though, Abomination. That could be fun. Producing this movie was enough for me- it was a great reintroduction back into the horror genre for me.

What I will tell you is that I do already have a horror movie that I want to star in and we’ve already shot the short for it; I want this movie to have its own icon because I love all of the horror icons so it would be cool if our movie could have its own iconic moment to it. It’s also got some dark comedy to it but it’s scary too. I am looking into funding that right now, probably through Kickstarter so that way the horror fans can be a part of it.

Dread Central: What else are you guys working on?

Jamie Kennedy:There's a project called Kantemir that we just finished shooting in January; I’m still waiting to see a first cut but I’m really excited to see what the fans think because we have Robert Englund back in full form as a villain in it. I think all the Freddy fans are going to love seeing him again like he was back in the day. It's also got a lot of twists and turns and should be a lot of fun.

Dread Central: For my last question, I'd love to talk a bit about Scream- you mentioned iconic figures and I'd say that Randy was definitely an iconic character of modern horror. He's a guy we still quote and still love even though he hasn't been involved in the franchise since Part Three. Did you have any idea when you guys were making that movie just how important it would end up being to the genre? A lot of things in horror definitely changed after Scream.

Jamie Kennedy:Thank you, that's awesome. Scream was just an amazing experience because I was unknown at the time so I really had no idea what we were making or how things would change after at all. Honestly, I thought it was kind of weird and because there wasn't anything else like it at the time, I don't think any of us really understood the impact it would have.

I think Scream sort of ended up being like the horror version of The Breakfast Club for our generation, which is incredible to look back and see what that movie came to mean for so many fans. It really did set a new standard and to be a part of something like that was really incredible. I was only involved with the first three but the way the fans continue to embrace this franchise is so great; I'd love to find a way to come back for another one. People always come back in these movies inexplicably, right? (Laughs)
