The 39th Annual Saturn Awards, which celebrate the best in science fiction, fantasy, horror, and genre entertainment, are less than a month away, and word has come as to who will be receiving this year's Life Career Award.

The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films is happy to announce that actor and director JONATHAN FRAKES, whose impressive body of work includes playing Commander William T. Riker in "Star Trek: The Next Generation" and its big-screen movies as well as directing such series as "Castle,""NCIS: Los Angeles,""Leverage,""Roswell" and "V," will receive this year's Life Career Award.

He joins this year's previously announced special-award recipients Richard Matheson, William Friedkin and Vince Gilligan and will receive his award in person during the award ceremonies.

This year's Saturn Awards will be hosted by TV personality and acclaimed comedian Wayne Brady. The ceremony will be held at the Starlight Ballroom of the Castaway in Burbank on Wednesday, June 26th.

Among this year's Saturn Award nominees are such hit films and TV series as The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, Skyfall, The Dark Knight Rises, Life of Pi, "The Walking Dead,""Dexter" and "American Horror Story: Asylum."

Made as part of the Keep Moving Projects with BlackBerry 10 is Robert Rodriguez's short Two Scoops, and it's loaded with everything you'd expect, including some very familiar faces. At just over 10 minutes in length, how could you say no to watching it?

Two Scoops is a cinematic adventure created by Robert Rodriguez with the help of his fans. In the film you will find a scene featuring 'the agent,' a secret weapon, and the monster. Each of these elements was either created or inspired by a fan of Robert Rodriguez. Throughout the film you will also find missing person posters. All of these 'missing people' are fans of Robert Rodriguez, who submitted their photos in order to appear in the film.

"Teen Wolf" Season 3:
The first half of MTV's supersized 24-episode third season of its hit scripted series "Teen Wolf" will premiere on Monday, June 3rd, at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT. Season 3 will pick up four months after the events that nearly ended Jackson's life and resurrected Peter Hale when teen werewolf Scott McCall and his friends Stiles, Lydia, and Allison begin their junior year of high school unaware that a new threat has arrived in Beacon Hills: a deadly pack of Alpha werewolves intent on bringing Derek into their fold. In the Season 3 premiere a new Alpha Pack arrives to wreak havoc on Scott's life while Derek and Isaac struggle to locate Erica and Boyd.

As previously announced, Season 3 will also feature several new faces in Beacon Hills, including: Ethan and Aiden, twin Alpha werewolves played by Charlie and Max Carver; Gideon Emery as Deucalion, leader of the Alpha werewolves; Kali, an Alpha werewolf played by Felisha Terrell; Brian Patrick Wade as Ennis, an Alpha werewolf who is a force of pure brutality; and Cora, a tough 17-year-old who has ties to the Beacon Hills werewolf line, played by Adelaide Kane. Despite CBS not being very horror-friendly, we're looking forward to seeing its adaptation of Stephen King's "Under the Dome." We do know they're not shy about promoting the show since we found some billboard-sized character posters in our travels around LA. Check 'em out!

Synopsis:
"UNDER THE DOME" is the story of a small town that is suddenly and inexplicably sealed off from the rest of the world by an enormous transparent dome. The town’s inhabitants must deal with surviving the post-apocalyptic conditions while searching for answers to what this barrier is, where it came from, and if and when it will go away.

The 13-episode summer series will premiere June 24th on CBS. It stars Mike Vogel, Rachelle Lefevre, Dean Norris, Natalie Martinez, Britt Robertson, Alexander Koch, Colin Ford, Nicholas Strong, Jolene Purdy, Ned Bellamy, and Aisha Hinds.

Alex van Warmerdam's Borgman slipped in and out of Cannes 2013 under our radar, but Drafthouse Films honed in on the disturbing and apparently utterly unique flick, snapping it for North America and including it in the "Drafthouse Alliance." Read on for more details along with a new still.

Drafthouse Films, the film distribution arm of the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, announced the acquisition of North American rights to the bizarro domestic thriller Borgman from this year's Cannes Film Festival. Directed by award-winning auteur Alex van Warmerdam (Grimm, Abel), Borgman is the first Dutch film in Cannes competition in almost 40 years. A US theatrical and VOD/digital release is planned for 2014, and Films We Like in Toronto will handle Canadian distribution. US fans who enroll in the "Drafthouse Alliance" subscription program can guarantee their pre-order of the film.

Like Yorgos Lanthimos' Dogtooth and Michael Haneke's Funny Games, Borgman is an allegorical tale exploring the nature of evil in unexpected places. A vagrant enters the lives of an upper-class family, igniting a descent from darkly comic dream to maddening psychological nightmare. "I wanted to show evil through the abnormal behaviour of normal people," said Warmerdam at the film's Cannes press conference, "the kind that you can come across in the street."

Borgman shocked and delighted Cannes audiences and has been praised as "one of the rare movies that manages to find something entirely new to say" (The Wrap). For Jessica Kiang at The Playlist, the film "never ceases to twist, turn and surprise... one of the biggest unexpected pleasures the festival has thus far provided."

"Maybe once a year I am deluged after a premiere with texts and emails to the effect of 'this is such a Drafthouse movie,'" says Drafthouse Films founder and CEO Tim League. "It's strange, disturbing, hysterical, and utterly unique. Borgman is THE quintessential Drafthouse film of Cannes. We can't wait to share it with audiences in North America."

About Borgman:
Modern day Europe: A priest and his companion hunt silently through the fields, accompanied by a braying dog. They are armed and deadly. Their quarry is Camiel Borgman, living in military sparseness in an underground den, near companions Ludwig and Pascal. Camiel scrapes out with some difficulty, hitching a ride with a doomed truck driver on a relentless trip to the heart of suburbia. He passes by two odd women, Brenda and Ilonka, with whom he seems to share a history. If you melded The Fast & the Furious and The Crow into a single supernatural action vehicle, detailed it with mid-1980s garishness, and set the radio to Reagan era hair metal, you’d get something a lot like The Wraith.

Long before street racing movies became en vogue, there was The Wraith, the full throttle tale of a murdered teenager who returns from the grave as Charlie Sheen, determined to save girlfriend Sherilyn Fenn from the clutches of the director of Alpha Dog and his band of evil Arizona road racers. Doing so requires an otherworldly racecar, the Turbo Interceptor, a car as adept at outrunning and exploding street punk hot rods as it is making befuddled sheriff Randy Quaid feel like he’s starring in Smokey & The Crow: Tokyo Drift.

The Wraith is such a treasure trove of Eighties hard-rockin’ B-Sides, I’m amazed it’s taken this long to spotlight one. Transformers fans might know the Swedish metal band Lion as the performers of the title song to the 1985 feature animated film Transformers: The Movie - now there’s another soundtrack just littered with B-Sides goodness. Lion’s second most famous song is arguably “Never Surrender," a song that sounds like it was written to be the anthem of a Rocky-esque movie. Instead it takes its movie bow accompanying a major street race between the Wraith and one of his killers with Quaid and his Keystone Cops in hot pursuit.

From the 1986 cult classic The Wraith, here’s Clint Howard in full Eraserhead mode signaling the start of the race that just wouldn’t be the same without Lion’s “Never Surrender” setting the tone.

The Ghost Brothers of Darkland County saga began when Mellencamp told King about a cabin on his land in Indiana where two brothers had gotten in a fight over a girl; one brother accidentally killing the other, only to die along with the girl in a car crash a short time later. King came up with an outline for a play in a matter of days. And then off and on, back and forth, they began to develop it into a full-length musical.

The superb blues ‘n roots music of Ghost Brothers reflects the wide range of styles and influences needed for a work that jumps back and forth across decades. Rather than use the songs to propel the play’s narrative, as in a conventional musical, Mellencamp chose to make them a way to reveal the emotions and inner workings of the characters—like Neko Case’s exquisite, unapologetic delivery of “That’s Who I Am;” the intense passion of Kristofferson’s “How Many Days;” or Costello’s cunning “That’s Me,” which establishes the persona of “The Shape,” the Puck-like devil figure at the heart of Ghost Brothers who floats between the worlds of the living and the spirits. Yet another new clip from American Mary has arrived, and this one is of the not safe for work variety. Being that it's Saturday, most of you should be able to watch freely. The rest of us working stiffs may wanna exercise caution in the name of boobies.

The flick, available on VOD since May 16th, will be opening in Los Angeles, New York, Austin, Chicago, and San Diego on May 31st. Written and directed by the Soska Sisters, American Mary stars Katharine Isabelle, Antonio Cupo, Tristan Risk, David Lovgren, Paula Lindberg, Clay St. Thomas, John Emmet Tracy, and Twan Holliday.

Synopsis
This metaphor for the Soskas' own journey through the independent film industry follows medical student Mary Mason as she becomes increasingly broke and disenchanted. But Mary soon finds that her new "profession" leaves more marks on her own psyche than on her freakish clientele.

"Spartacus" star Erin Cummings hit Twitter today and revealed that she and Ethan Embry have joined the cast of Adrian Garcia Bogliano's werewolf thriller Late Phases for Dark Sky Films/MPI and Glass Eye Pix, which is now shooting in New York. Nick Damici and Tina Louise co-star.

Late Phases marks the first English-language project for director Bogliano (Cold Sweat, Penumbra, Here Comes the Devil).

Synopsis:
LATE PHASES tells the story of Ambrose McKinley (Damici), who moves into a community where the residents have been dying in increasing numbers - oddly, all have supposedly been the victims of dog attacks. But after barely surviving his own attack on his first night there, Ambrose discovers that the assailants are much more than canines.

Nothing in this exclusive clip from the Apartment 1303 remake leads us to think it needs to be seen in 3D, but if you're in the UK and have the tech, you can check it out and let us know since it lands on DVD and 3D Blu-ray/Blu-ray tomorrow, June 3rd, from Koch Media.

Here in the States Apartment 1303, a re-telling by Michael Taverna of the J-horror film of the same name, will debut on VOD on June 17th and then on July 25th will be released theatrically in 20 markets including many 3D midnight shows.

Along with the clip, there's a new still that should pique your interest if you find Sadako-like long-haired blonde girls creepy.

Synopsis:

Refusing to accept the investigators' conclusion of suicide, Janet’s sister, Lara (Mischa Barton), becomes determined to reveal the truth behind her death. On learning the tragic story of the first tenants, Janet soon discovers the terrible reality of what happens in Apartment 1303...

Despite the rather lukewarm response that The Paranormal Incident received (you can read Gareth's review here), Paranormal Incident 2 is on its way from Arrow Films in July.

Directed by David Chirchirillo, the film follows a team of special agents as they become embroiled in dark and disturbing events at an abandoned prison, but their plight only comes to light when a mysterious DVD turns up at a young mother’s house, revealing footage of the sinister incident. Paranormal Incident 2 makes its DVD debut on 8 July 2013.

We've heard of composers employing strange and macabre instruments for genre projects before (Daniel Licht's work on "Dexter" comes to mind), but they've got nothing on Marco Beltrami, who used animal bones and other assorted oddities to convey horror in the score for World War Z.

From the Press Release:
Composer Marco Beltrami is bringing the clacking of teeth and the wailing of sirens to his score for World War Z, in theaters June 21, 2013. The story of the zombie apocalypse, World War Z stars Brad Pitt, James Badge Dale, and Mireille Emos. Beltrami based all the melody, harmony, and rhythm of the score on the U.S. Emergency Broadcast System signal siren and then incorporated non-traditional percussive elements, like the sound of animal skulls and teeth being mashed together, creating an atypical sonic palette, blending the rhythms of bone-on-bone with a full orchestra. The score album for World War Z will be released on Warner Bros. Records on June 18, 2013.

Beltrami recorded the animal skulls, as well as a full orchestra, at Abbey Road Studios and mixed at British Grove Studios in London. Regarding this inventive percussive device, Beltrami comments, “The sound of the skull became the basis for the percussion in the score…it added a new intensity.” As an award-winning composer who built his reputation as a genre innovator with non-traditional horror scores for the Scream franchise and Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, Beltrami built a layered, grisly rhythmic foundation for multiple themes representing various tangents explored in the film, including the terror of the pandemic and the comfort of family.

Marco Beltrami has received two Oscar nominations for Best Original Score, for Hurt Locker and 3:10 to Yuma. He has received two Critics’ Choice Award nominations, and he was Emmy nominated for Outstanding Music Composition for a Series for "The Practice." Last year he won the Golden Satellite Award for Best Score from The International Press Academy for Soul Surfer. Beltrami is currently scoring The Wolverine and Snowpiercer, both to be released later this year.

We told you about the upcoming homage to 50's horror entitled Gorilla a couple of months ago, and now the filmmakers behind it have shot us over a new one-sheet and news of its Canadian theatrical premiere!

The flick will be playing on July 27th at the Mayfair Theatre in Ottawa, ON, Canada.

Directed by Dave Shaw, Gorilla stars Sara Duplancic, Francis Fisk, Paul Washer, Sherry Thurig, and Penu Chalykoff. Dig on the poster, trailer, and more below.

Synopsis
A comedic salute to 1950's "Monster on the Loose" B-Movies (with modern twists). "Late Night Classics presents GORILLA!" tells the story of Anna, a young woman who discovers that an escaped gorilla is killing her friends and family. Her only hope to stop the beast is booze-hound former TV show host Riggs Deardon, who once tussled with a gorilla 20 years previously. Anna enlists the help of her logical yet sarcastic boyfriend Stephen, Riggs' lost in the 60's ex-wife Mimsy, and not quite with it cop Officer Landis to stop the beast before it kills again.

Time for a little levity, kids, and lord knows on Mondays we really need it. On tap right now are four new clips from the upcoming horror comedy This Is the End, and we have every apocalyptic second of 'em on tap for your perusal.

Written and directed by Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen and starring Rogen, Jay Baruchel, James Franco, Craig Robinson, Danny McBride and Jonah Hill as themselves, This Is the End finds six friends trapped in a house after a series of strange and catastrophic events devastate Los Angeles. As the world unravels outside, dwindling supplies and cabin fever threaten to tear apart the friendships inside. Once they discover that they are experiencing the Apocalypse, they must come to terms with why they were left behind. Eventually they are forced to leave the house, facing their fate and the true meaning of friendship and redemption.

Look for the flick in theatres on June 12th.

Nowadays it seems as if everyone is chasing the same dragons as a means to set themselves apart and become the definitive destination for online horror-themed entertainment. Another YouTube channel has opened, and it has some big plans.

The Orchard, a pioneering independent music and video distribution company operating in more than 26+ global markets, has entered into a long-term marketing and branding relationship with horror film web publisher Shock Till You Drop (a division of Crave Online and Evolve Media).

The multi-year global pact will see the companies combine their resources to acquire and market contemporary horror films through all home video channels including digital and DVD. Crave Online gets over 25 million unique viewers monthly on its male oriented websites. The Orchard will use its expanding YouTube Multi-Channel Network Group (ranked #6 by ComScore in monthly unique viewers) to launch a Shock YouTube channel which will act as a destination for horror fans to access what’s new and cool in horror film and media.
