The Battle of the Damned Wages War at HomeZombies. Robots. Dolph Lundrgen. Those words used together in the same sentence can bring nothing but a HUGE smile to the face of a horror fan. We've been talking about the upcoming Dolph of the Dead flick Battle of the Damned for a long time now. Thankfully it's finally coming home.

From the Press Release
“Zombies. Killer Robots. Nice town you got here.”

Anchor Bay Films presents Battle of the Damned, where you can pick your apocalypse – germ warfare, zombie assaults, and/or deadly robots!! With unrelenting action and unyielding suspense, Battle of the Damned commences February 18, 2014, on Blu-ray™ and DVD, with an SRP of $29.99 for the Blu-ray™ and $24.98 for the DVD.

When a deadly virus is accidentally released into a major city, its population is quarantined by military blockade. And for a wealthy industrialist desperate to rescue his daughter from inside the rabid chaos, his only hope is former commando Max Gatling (Lundgren). Now Gatling has one day to bust in, blast through hordes of the undead, find the girl, and hunt for a way to get them both out alive. But will a small band of survivors and an army of killer robots turn his mission into maximum slaughter?

Matt Doran (The Matrix) and David Field (Chopper) co-star in this intense action shocker that TheActionElite.com calls “awesome badass… one of the craziest movies of Dolph’s career and arguably one of his best!”

Also starring Esteban Cueto (Fast Five, Iron Man 2, The Scorpion King), Battle of the Damned is a terrifying look into the future. Set against a ravaged landscape, it is a battle against flesh and steel – a battle between outlaw and outbreak!

Battle of the Damned is written and directed by Christopher Hatton and produced by Ehud Bleiberg, Leon Tong, and Hatton.

Fans Petition for Jean-Claude Van Damme Terminator Role

Fans Petition for Jean-Claude Van Damme Terminator RoleWith a new entry in The Terminator series on its way, fans are pretty anxious to see their beloved franchise get back on track and back to business. Some of them even have some pretty neat ideas on just whom Arnie should do battle with in the next entry in the franchise.

Case in point: a new Facebook petition to get Jean-Claude Van Damme a role in the new Terminator film! In retrospect, this could actually work. Not the petition maybe, but if you think about it, Van Damme plays great bad guys, and he's proved that he still has it. Honestly, we're all for this.

JCVD himself caught wind of this movement and released the following response. "This is amazing! Thanks to the wonderful fan group behind this nice page. The fan-made CGI galleries you have created are incredible. Answering your questions, I would definitely love to join The Terminator franchise with Mr. Arnold Schwarzenegger, if I am offered the role. Thank you, once again… I am happily still browsing your amazing fan-made videos and photos! #JCVD"

So what say you?

The latest Terminator will be the fifth installment of the storied movie series, which began in 1984 as an indie distributed by Orion. Schwarzenegger starred in all but the last one, 2009’s wretched Terminator Salvation, in which he made only a digitally processed cameo. You know, the only good part of that whole fiasco.

The film's plot details have not been revealed other than this is the first installment in a stand-alone trilogy. Skydance and Annapurna will co-finance along with Paramount with David Ellison producing for Skydance and Megan Ellison producing for Annapurna. Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier penned the script.

IFC Midnight Scoops Up Witching and Bitching

IFC Midnight Scoops Up Witching and BitchingAlex De la Iglesia closed out the Midnight Madness section of this year's Toronto International Film Festival with his totally off the wall new flick Witching and Bitching, which was recently released in his home country of Spain. When will the rest of us be able to check it out? Read on for details!

As reported by Variety, IFC Midnight has secured all North American distribution rights to the horror comedy, which they will release theatrically and on Video On Demand platforms here in the States next year. The film has been sold in more than 40 territories, with only the UK and Australia left to close.

The flick centers on a band of thieves trying to flee to France after purloining 25,000 gold rings from a Spanish city. A curse is placed on them, and they fall into the clutches of the witches of the Navarrese town of Zugarramurdi.

Witching's ensemble cast boasts some of Spain’s biggest film and TV stars, such as Mario Casas (I Want You), Hugo Silva (Sex, Parties and Lies), and Carmen Maura, who earned a Best Actress award at San Sebastian in 2000 for her role in Commonwealth. Further cast members are Terele Pavez, Carolina Bang, Secun de la Rosa, Pepon Nieto, and Jaime Ordonez.

According to De la Iglesia, Witching and Bitching is a mix of his 1995 groundbreaking hit The Day of the Beast with multi-awarded 2000 comedy Commonwealth. “It is an outrageous comedy, in the line of ‘It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World,’ but a horror comedy,” De la Iglesia explains.

Chilean Horror Film Yokai Comes to the Shoreline

Chilean Horror Film Yokai Comes to the ShorelineYa know what kinds of stories I love to read? The ones where American distribution companies pick up foreign films and intend on releasing them, rather than remaking them. This is one of those stories. Read on for the skinny!

As per Variety, U.S. sales company Shoreline Entertainment has nabbed the worldwide rights to Chilean horror flick Yokai from first-time director Cristobal Echevensko. This marks the very first Latin American film that the company has ever scooped up.

"As the buzz is building on Latin American genre films, I thought it was important that our first move into that sector was a game changing film,” said executive VP Sam Eigen.

Penned by Echevensko and described as a story of suspense with supernatural elements of terror, Yokai centers on Lydia, a 28-year-old employee of a jewelry store who tries to steal a valuable diamond from a man named Yokai. Yokai is a serial killer in his spare time, living at home with all the ghosts of his victims.

Eli Roth, Eric Newman, and Scott Kosar Involved in History Channel's New Jesus Project that Could Include Exorcism

Eli Roth, Eric Newman, and Scott Kosar Involved in History Channel's New Jesus Project that Could Include ExorcismWe've all heard it said that Jesus was the first zombie, but the first exorcist? If this latest news of a potential series on History is correct, that's exactly how he'll be portrayed! Read on for the details.

Per Deadline, following the success of its blockbuster "The Bible," the cable network is exploring another project about Jesus that would show him in a more controversial light with deals being finalized with feature writer Scott Kosar (The Machinist) and producers Eli Roth (pictured; the Hostel franchise) and Eric Newman (The Thing remake).

Titled "The Lost Years," the program will explore the undocumented years of Jesus’ life as a young adult. Because the project is in very early stages, it is unclear whether it would be developed as a regular series or a miniseries.

Here's how the site describes it: "The Lost Years" is based on an original idea by Kosar, who developed it with Roth and Newman. All three have strong horror pedigree - Kosar co-wrote The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Amityville Horror, and The Crazies; and Roth and Newman jointly produced The Last Exorcism franchise in addition to their other horror credits. "The Lost Years" was conceived in the horror genre, and it explores a theory about Jesus’ origins as an exorcist. The practice of exorcism, which is done in the name of Jesus, was not officially introduced until about a century after Jesus’ death. It involves ridding someone’s body of demons and evil spirits. In ancient times, when medicine was in its infancy, healing was done mainly on a spiritual level, essentially treating ailments by getting demons out the body. Thus the theory that, as the most powerful healer of his time, Jesus performed rituals akin to exorcism."

Okay then. We'll keep our eyes on this one and let you know how it plays out.

Stephen Moyer Talks True Blood Season 7

    $

    0

The ten-episode Season 7 will be "True Blood's" last, and series star Stephen Moyer recently chatted with TVLine about what's ahead for fans, if Bill and Sookie are the endgame, how he feels about the show ending, and more.

We have the highlights of Moyer's interview below; be sure to hit the link at the bottom of the page for the whole thing.

What does Moyer think about the timing of the ending?
“I think they made the right call to say, ‘Let’s finish it on a massive run of 10 episodes,’” adding that HBO considered extending the series through an eighth season. “It was either going to be one season or two seasons… and I would’ve definitely [stayed] on. But it’s very difficult with a show like ours to keep finding a Big Bad and creating all the drama around it.”

Is the plan for the final season to focus on the Bill-Sookie-Alcide triangle?
“I know nothing. I’m directing the first episode... and I haven’t [even] seen [the script]. We shoot ['The Sound of Music Live'] on the fifth of December, and I start prep on 'True Blood' on the ninth.”

Does he think Bill and Sookie are the endgame?
“I don’t know whether they can be, given everything that’s happened between them. What Bill did was open up something inside her that she had never had before. He was the key to a new world for her. And maybe that’s all he was supposed to be — a window into that world. I don’t think that there is a right or wrong answer. I think a bunch of people would be happy if that was the story and a bunch of people would be pissed off if that was the story. I don’t read that s–t, so I don’t care, ultimately. All I want to do is do the show and have fun doing it.”

How does he feel about this chapter of his life coming to an end?
“Sad… it's a f—ing family. That word is bandied about a little bit too much, but it really does feel like [a family]. I’m going to be very excited about what’s to come [career-wise] but slightly bereft that it’s all going to be done.”

The seventh season of "True Blood" will launch in summer 2014. The end of Season 6 jumped ahead six months, and Season 7 will serve as a bit of a reset for the series with the theme of "for every vampire, a human; for every human, a vampire."It once again examines the relationships between humans and vampires, and by putting all the characters essentially into one story, now it's Bon Temps vs. the world!

    "The Following" Season 2:
Created by Kevin Williamson (“The Vampire Diaries,” “Dawson’s Creek,” the Scream franchise) and starring Golden Globe Award-winning actor Kevin Bacon (X-Men: The Last Stand, Frost/Nixon) and James Purefoy (“Rome”), Season 2 will catch up with RYAN HARDY (Bacon) in the wake of a horrific new murder spree. The FBI calls on Ryan and MIKE WESTON (Shawn Ashmore) to speak with the lone survivor, LILY (Connie Nielsen; “Boss,” “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit”), in order to help them solve the case. Ryan is reluctant to re-engage with the FBI but finds a valuable ally in his niece, MAX (Jessica Stroup, “90210”), an NYPD cop working in the Intel Division.

As the investigation proceeds, Ryan crosses paths with several complicated individuals, including LUKE (Sam Underwood, “Dexter”) and MANDY LANG (Tiffany Boone, Beautiful Creatures), which furthers his suspicion that JOE CARROLL's (Purefoy) reign of terror is far from over.

Other new faces joining the show this year include Valerie Cruz as an NYPD cop who works closely with Mike Weston, James McDaniel as an FBI agent, Keith Carradine as a friend of Ryan, Jacinda Barrett as Julia, a disarming and alluring woman with mysterious intentions, and Lee Tergesen as Kurt Bolen, a seemingly normal family man who may harbor a dark secret.

New Poster Sets an Open Grave in MotionTribeca Film has just released a pretty nifty motion poster for Gonzalo Lopez-Gallego's new film, Open Grave starring Sharlto Copley, and we have every moving pixel of it right here for ya. Dig it!

Open Grave will have a December day and date release in the U.S. via Tribeca Film.

Thomas Kretschmann, Josie Ho, Joseph Morgan, Erin Richards, and Max Wrottesley also star. The film is produced by William Green and Aaron L. Ginsburg of Atlas Independent, Michael B. Wunderman, and in association with 852 Films.

“This highly original thriller by Spanish helmer Gonzalo López-Gallego is as full of mystery and suspense as it is of bodies and terror. Anchored by a sterling performance from Sharlto Copley, Open Grave is an exhilarating journey that leaves us breathless until the very end,” said Geoff Gilmore, Chief Creative Officer of Tribeca Enterprises.

    Synopsis
The high-concept Open Grave follows a man (Copley) who wakes up in a pit of dead bodies with no memory of who he is or how he got there. Fleeing the scene, he breaks into a nearby house and is met at gunpoint by a group of terrified strangers, all suffering from memory loss. Suspicion gives way to violence as the group starts to piece together clues about their identities, but when they uncover a threat that’s more vicious than each other, they are forced to figure out what brought them all together — before it’s too late.
