The Ganzfeld Experiment Becomes The Ganzfeld Haunting and Heads to LA When we last heard about The Ganzfeld Haunting, it was April of last year, and it was still called The Ganzfeld Experiment. But with the new year has come a new title and some early screening news. If you're in or around LA, you have a chance to see it soon.

The Ganzfeld Haunting, a bold, erotic psychological thriller from director Michael Oblowitz (The Breed), will premiere on February 6th and then run for an exclusive one-week engagement beginning Friday, February 7th, at Laemmle's Beverly Hills (9036 Wilshire Blvd., Beverly Hills, CA).

Are you more of a night owl? Then you can attend special midnight shows at Laemmle's NoHo 7 (5240 Lankershim Blvd., North Hollywood, CA) on February 6th and 7th.

The film stars Rumer Willis (Sorority Row), Taylor Cole (The Green Hornet), Ryan Donowho (Altitude), Billy Zane, and Dominic Purcell and follows five college psychology students who set out to perform an ESP experiment. Along their path of self-discovery, the characters get sidetracked by hard drugs, sex, and... the supernatural. Can they forget what they cannot remember? For those five students a new kind of terror awaits. Senses are dazed as they meet their destiny and the present collides with a past shared secret. New Four-Issue Mars Attacks: First Born Series Launches in May

New Four-Issue Mars Attacks: First Born Series Launches in MayThere have been many stories told in the Mars Attacks universe, but nothing quite like this! Beginning in May, Chris Ryall and Sam Kieth (The Hollows) join forces once again for Mars Attacks: First Born, the story of the first Earth-born Martian.

Mars Attacks: First Born, a four-issue series from IDW Publishing written by Ryall from a story co-plotted by Ryall and Kieth, featuring art and covers by Kieth, tells a deceptively quiet story of the aftereffects of the Martian invasion:

In a devastated neighborhood, a few survivors try to rebuild their lives. One of those survivors is an infant Martian, left behind in the attacks. But was she left behind on accident or as part of a more nefarious plan? Does nature versus nurture apply to horrible invaders from Mars? These are some of the themes being explored in this series. Also: giant bugs.

“This series is a multi-tiered love letter,” said series writer and IDW Chief Creative Officer/Editor-in-Chief Chris Ryall. “Every page shows not only the love Sam and I have for Mars Attacks, but also wild science-fiction tales from the past, the sorts of things Wally Wood drew in the pages of Weird Science-Fantasy and other EC comics. Our adoration of Wally’s work is front and center in this series, but it’s also a great next move for Sam and I after the working relationship we developed on The Hollows. And it surely gives Mars Attacks fans something special, in addition to also giving them some of the wanton carnage and gallows humor they’ve come to expect.”

The influence of classic science-fiction stories of years past extends to the variant covers for each issue, too. Artist Loston Wallace pays homage to classic Wally Wood EC covers in each image he’s creating for the series.

“Sam has been a friend to Topps for more than 20 years, and we’re happy to see him finally put his stamp on Mars Attacks,” says Adam Levine, Topps’ Head of Outbound Licensing. “His wild style and one-of-a-kind sense of storytelling will no doubt bring a fresh take to our classic Martians.”

Read on for details, and get those smart TVs ready!

From the Press Release
Full Moon Features is proud to announce their most exciting acquisition yet – fifty of cinema’s most obscure and beloved classics from the Blue Underground label will debut on their new subscription-based video streaming service, FullMoonStreaming.com, home to the entire Full Moon Features library.

Blue Underground titles will include VENOM (a beloved thriller about a killer snake starring Klaus Kinski, Susan George, and Oliver Reed), MONDO CANE (the award-winning documentary that launched the whole “Mondo” craze of the Sixties), CONTAMINATION (a gory Italian homage to ALIEN), VIOLENT CITY (the Charles Bronson action classic), DON’T TORTURE A DUCKLING (horror/thriller from Italian godfather of gore Lucio Fulci), THE CHURCH (a haunted church tale from Italian masters of terror Dario Argento and Michele Soavi), and TOMBS OF THE BLIND DEAD (the first in the series of popular Spanish BLIND DEAD films), amongst many others.

“Full Moon Streaming’s fanbase is growing rapidly, and fans have come to expect the most amazing content imaginable,” explained Full Moon’s Charles Band. “I knew these Blue Underground titles would perfectly satiate that need, as we are the only subscriber-based streaming service to curate the world’s best, kookiest, and most hard-to-find cinema treasures.”

Award-Winning Short Prisoner 614 Screening at Hollywood Reel Independent Film Fest

Award-Winning Short Prisoner 614 Screening at Hollywood Reel Independent Film FestWord of a new "must see" horror short film playing during the 2014 Hollywood Reel Indie Film Fest landed in our inbox so here's the scoop on David Portorreal's Prisoner 614 plus a few stills.

    From the Press Release:
Award-winning short film Prisoner 614, starring Hemky Madera ("Weeds") and Celestin Cornielle ("Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D") is set to screen on February 12th at the Hollywood Reel Independent Film Festival, being held February 11th–23rd at the New Beverly Cinema in Hollywood, CA.

The thriller, which is currently enjoying a successful festival run, was written, directed, and produced by David Portorreal, whose father was born and raised in the Dominican Republic during the reign of the dictator Rafael Leonidas Trujillo Molina and was the inspiration for Portorreal’s award-winning film.

“The Dominican Republic is a special place to me not only because of my father, but also because of my many relatives that currently live there,” says David Portorreal. “The country’s history has always fascinated me. One day I was speaking with my father and doing research about the Trujillo era, with the goal of writing a feature script about the time period, when I was hit with the idea for Prisoner 614. The resulting short film is an abstract, supernatural thriller which I have dedicated to him because of his courageous experiences in 1960.”

Prisoner 614 is a short (about 10 mins), intense drama thriller about an off-kilter prisoner (Hemky Madera) who is brought before a determined military interrogator (Celestin Cornielle), unafraid of using violent methods for information. Things begin to heat up when one of them soon realizes that he got more than what he bargained for. Prisoner 614, which is a film festival "must see," was an official selection at the Los Angeles International Underground Film Festival and premiered at the Festival de Cine Global Dominicano.

Audiences can see Prisoner 614 and meet some of the key cast on February 12th at 3:30 pm at the New Beverly Cinema, 7165 West Beverly Boulevard in Hollywood, CA 90036. Portorreal’s next film, currently in development with a Federal agent, is Maite, which is set for production in the Dominican Republic later this year.

Paul W.S. Anderson Updates on Resident Evil 6It's been over six months since we've heard anything about Resident Evil 6, which at the time had a September 2014 release date attached to it. Today, director Paul W.S. Anderson offers an update. Read on to hear what he's got to say!

As per Collider, Anderson says there are no immediate plans in motion for a sixth installment in the popular franchise, but that both he and Screen Gems are eager to add at least one more entry to the series. "We’d like to do another Resident Evil movie," he said. "But the wheels aren’t quite in motion yet."

It seems that Anderson needs a break after filming disaster epic Pompeii and that production on Resident Evil 6 will begin when he's ready to get back behind the camera. He apparently has an idea for the film, which will neatly wrap up the franchise, but by all accounts a script hasn't yet been written.

The Little Ghost Flies Over to Vertical EntertainmentHe's not Casper, but he's just as friendly. The Little Ghost has been charming audiences over in Germany, and he's soon headed Stateside. Read on for all the details about the ghost with the most!

As per Variety, Vertical Entertainment has acquired North American rights to the family-friendly flick, which has thus far grossed over $6 million at the German box office.

The feature is live-action, apart from, of course, its central character, the Little Ghost, which is rendered in CGI. It is based on the best-selling children’s book by Otfried Preussler, which has been translated into more than 31 languages.

The titular Little Ghost lives in the castle of Eulenstein and is awake for one hour every night from midnight. The ghost would like to see the world by daylight for once, despite the warnings of a friend, Mr. Tu-Whit Tu-Whoo.

One night, three kids go on a trip to the castle, where they have their first encounter with the ghost. The following day, the ghost wakes up at 12 o’clock noontime and ventures into the town. Its joy soon passes, as — discolored by the first sunrays — it scares the town’s inhabitants and causes a commotion. Chased by the police, the ghost asks the children for help.

The pic’s producers are Uli Putz and Jakob Claussen of Claussen+Woebke+Putz Filmproduktion. ARRI Worldsales, which is part of the ARRI Group, is a co-producer.
