Expect The Sacrament to hit VOD platforms on May 1st, 2014, followed by a limited theatrical roll-out on June 6th.

Synopsis
The Sacrament follows two Vice media correspondents as they set out to document their friend’s search to find his missing sister. They travel outside of the United States to an undisclosed location where they are welcomed into the world of “Eden Parish,” a self-sustained rural utopia comprised of nearly 200 members. At the centre of this small, religious, socialist community is a mysterious leader known only as “Father.” As their friend reunites with his sister, it becomes apparent to the newcomers that this paradise may not be as it seems. What started as just another documentary shoot soon becomes a race to escape with their lives.

Writer/Director Jose Prendes (THE HAUNTING OF WHALEY HOUSE) and producers Jon and James Kondelik are excited to welcome the gorgeous genre vet Lynn Lowry (THE CRAZIES, SHIVERS, I DRINK YOUR BLOOD) to the cast of their new film.

DIVINE TRAGEDIES, based loosely on the famous Leopold and Loeb murder case, tells the tale of Charles Brubaker (Graham Denman, The Haunting of Whaley House) and his half-brother Thomas Lo Bianco (Jon Kondelik, Airplane Vs. Volcano), who concoct a deadly game to test their superior intelligence against the dimwitted masses. This game will eventually lead to murder, and when Genevieve, a beautiful single mother, enters their lives they finally find the perfect girl for their first kill. But problems arise when they quickly discover that Detective Homer Gaul (Ken Foree), a cop with a very special gift, is hot on their trail.

“Lynn is simply wonderful,” say Jose. “She is the kind of actor that draws us in and makes us care and easily changes the dynamic of any scene. I am honored to be working with one of my favorites again.”

Filming begins at the end of February.

The Crypt is billed as an homage to the 70’s box office phenomenon The Exorcist. It’s a modern retelling of the classic tale for today’s youth that includes all the elements of social media and is available in 3D for a fun-filled night of scary entertainment.

Synopsis
It’s Saturday night, and two partying teens looking for a little excitement take their dates down to the crypt of a 15th century convent. With video camera in hand, the boys are out to show the girls a good time and create their own YouTube sensation. Things go wrong from the start as the teens find themselves trapped in the catacombs of the convent. The tombs have their own history, and the teens are faced with the demons that rule the underworld.

The next day the teens’ dead bodies are found, and a police investigation begins. Left behind and discovered by church officials is the video recorder, which is the evidence that sets into motion a clandestine effort by the clergy to conceal what actually happened.

Called into service is a special member of the church. Brought in from Rome, his job is to rid the convent of its demons by performing an exorcism. Things get even scarier when the “specialist” himself becomes possessed. The demons now appear unstoppable.

Sawney Bean. The name alone is enough to send a chill down the spine... right before it's yanked out of your back and gnawed on until there's nothing left but bone and gristle. Another film is on its way to lend some bite to the horror genre based upon the terrors conjured by his clan. Read on for details.

Director Mark Murphy dropped us a line to let us know that his next film after The Crypt 3D will be called The Valleys. So, what's it all about? We'll let Mark lift the veil...

"The Valleys is an ultra intense horror derived from the legend of the Sawney Bean clan but given a fairly graphic modern telling in a film that promises to bring the gore and discomfort factor to a new level."

J.T. Petty’s newest entry into the genre is the horror comedy hybrid Hellbenders (review), a lightweight but surprisingly warm-hearted adventure focusing on a group of debaucherous exorcists who stay in a constant state of sin in order to trap demons more effectively before being sent down the elevator to hell.

Petty enjoyed some success with 2008’s The Burrowers, and it isn’t hard to tell that the same set of eyes was behind the camera for Hellbenders. The director spoke to us briefly about the film, which is now available on Blu-ray in glorious 3D.

DC:I remember first meeting you at Fangoria Radio years ago when you were promoting The Burrowers, which I first saw at Fantastic Fest back in 2008. That film was a genre twist on a western, and Hellbenders is a twist on religious horror. Is the fresh take on an old idea what first gets you excited about an idea? Would you not be as interested in doing a straight up and down, more traditional story?

JTP: Yeah, I guess that’s sort of my general M.O. I feel like if you’re going to make a horror movie, if you’re not breaking expectations, then you’re not doing what horror is supposed to be doing. It would have to be a really special movie. I love something like The Conjuring. It gives people such a straight ahead exercise on what we already know, and then it just comes down to your craft as a filmmaker. I’d rather always just go with the story.

DC: How does the writing process usually start with you? Did you sit down and do the 9 to 5 thing to come up with Hellbenders, for example, or did it come easier than that?

JTP: I’m writing all the time. This movie started, just from the basic concept, the way every exorcism movie does where you get down to the point where the exorcist is like, ‘I can’t throw this demon out so I’m going to free myself and kill myself.’ I feel like the Catholic church could have institutionalized it, and the idea of institutionalizing priests who are ready to be possessed so that they could kill themselves was hilarious. So, from there, it was just about working out the rules of how this organization works and all of the bureaucracy. The movie came together really fast.

DC: Was the 70s book Hostage of the Devil the start of the idea for Hellbenders? When did you first find and read that book about exorcism?

JTP: I read that when I was doing research on this. I found that book because that’s the one that William Peter Blatty references in The Exorcist novel. Reading it was just a total revelation. It almost makes you believe it’s real. It’s funny; I gave that book to Clifton Collins [Jr.] and Clancy Brown and said, ‘This is what it’s like to be an exorcist.’ Both of them read, probably, half the book. I think Clancy’s wife threw it out, and Clifton was like, ‘I can’t get into this shit. It’s too dark.’

DC: Speaking of Clancy Brown, had you stayed in touch with him all this time, or did Hellbenders become a chance for you guys to reunite? It’s great seeing him do comedy.

JTP: He’s a friend; he’s a good guy. I had him in mind right from the start. He is such a funny dude, and he is so good at cursing. So I just wanted to give him the opportunity to call a lot of people “cocksuckers.” He’s an old school geek, and he just loves this shit. He’s a good friend.

DC: Another favorite actor of mine is Larry Fessenden. Would you ever be interested in doing a “Tales From Beyond the Pale” radio episode about the continuing adventures of the Hellbenders if you could get Clancy and the rest of the cast together?

JTP: Yeah, that’d be fun. I do think that Hellbenders is kind of old-timey in a way. I was trying to make it, sort of, weirdly innocent, and yeah, I think it could fit into a radio interview kind of thing.

DC: With Hellbenders not being overly graphic, are you just saving all of your sick ideas for Faces of Death if that ever gets made? I know you did a new version of the script towards the end of last year.

JTP: Yeah, Hellbenders is a very innocent film as far as I’m concerned. It’s as much of a Saturday morning cartoon as it is a horror movie. With Faces of Death, there’s a lot of awesome stuff there. I like violence on screen, and I think a lot of people do.

"The Walking Dead" is not a show to thrive on celebrity guests. Aside from Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward and F/X god Greg Nicotero (who works on the show anyway), there have been no celebrity zombie appearances. But there have been plenty of zombie tributes.

Dynamo writer John Squires recently compiled a list of zombie "cameos" from "The Walking Dead." The list consists of zombies on the show designed to look like (in)famous zombies from films past, and we'll review them here.

Season 1, Episode 4 - Day of the Dead - Doctor Tongue
Dr. Tongue from Day of the Dead was the first zombie seen in the film, which was Greg Nicotero's first feature. He worked as an assistant to Tom Savini, and Dr. Tongue was just the first of many nightmares contained in this masterpiece. In Season 1, Episode 4, "The Walking Dead" did an homage to Dr. Tongue with one of the most memorable zombies in the series. Used in various promotional materials, this zombie has her bottom jaw ripped off and tongue lolling out, just like the nefarious Dr. Tongue. Dig the similarities below.

Season 3, Episode 5 - Dawn of the Dead - Flyboy
An icon from one of the greatest zombie films of all time, Day of the Dead, is Stephen "Flyboy" Andrews (played by David Emge). In Season 3, Episode 5, Nicotero and crew created a spot-on recreation of Flyboy with a zombie seen when Merle is forced to fight for his life in The Governor's zombie battle ring.

Season 3, Episode 5 - Jaws - Ben Gardner's Head
Obviously, Season 3, Episode 5 was the place to be for tributes to the past. In the final scene we get a look at one of the most disturbing things we've yet seen on "The Walking Dead," that being The Governor's fish tanks full of severed heads. One of those heads just happens to be made to look like Ben Gardner's head (played pre-severing by Craig Kingsbury) from Jaws. Although technically not a zombie, it does reappear after Ben's death, last seen coming out of the hull of a sunken ship.

Season 3, Episode 15 - Dawn of the Dead - Plaid Shirt Zombie
When Merle cranked up the radio in his car in an attempt to attract zombies to help attack The Governor and his men, one of the shuffling crew was none other than a damn-near spot-on recreation of the Plaid Shirt Zombie, well known from the deserted airplane hangar in Dawn of the Dead.

Season 4, Episode 8 - Lucio Fulci's Zombie - Maggot-Eyed Zombie
Season 4's mid-season finale was one of the most epic episodes of "The Walking Dead" that we've seen yet. One of the more important moments was young Meghan, whom The Governor had begun to think of as an adopted daughter, getting bit by a zombie who emerges from a muddy tomb. Although your first thoughts might go to Tarman from Return of the Living Dead when seeing this undead beastie, it is in fact a tribute to Lucio Fulci's trademark zombie from his aptly named film Zombie. Any horror fan worth his or her salt is certainly familiar with this undead monster with the maggot-filled eye.

Season 4, Episode 9 - An American Werewolf in London - Jack Goodman
The final zombie tribute we've found so far was in the first episode of the second half of Season 4. While Michonne is walking amongst the zombie horde, deliberating whether life is worth living or not, we get an oh so brief glance at a walker with a head far more decayed than any of the others. This was without a doubt a tribute to legendary F/X artist Rick Baker and his work on An American Werewolf in London and the scene where Jack Goodman's "ghost" appears in a nearly fully decomposed state. The zombie in "The Walking Dead" was done as an amazing tribute to Baker's work.

Syfy and The Asylum are swimming through the snowy banks of New York City while filming the eagerly awaited Sharknado sequel, Sharknado 2: The Second One, and the first footage of the shoot has surfaced! Check it out!

Anthony C. Ferrante returns to direct a screenplay by Thunder Levin, who also wrote Sharknado. In Sharknado 2: The Second One, a freak weather system turns its deadly fury on New York City, unleashing a "sharknado" on the population and its most cherished, iconic sites – and only Fin and April (Ian Ziering and Tara Reid, returning from the original) can save the Big Apple.

Kelly Osbourne, Judd Hirsch, Andy Dick, Judah Friedlander, Vivica A. Fox, and Mark McGrath also appear in the Syfy Original Movie. Osbourne will portray a flight attendant, and Dick will play a New York City police officer. Friedlander will play the character of Brian, while Hirsch – who starred in the iconic New York-based TV series "Taxi"– will be a cab driver named Ben. Fox will play Skye, an old high school friend of Fin (Ziering), and Mark McGrath – lead singer of the rock band Sugar Ray and "Killer Karaoke" host – will play Fin’s brother-in-law.

Sharknado 2 is scheduled to premiere on Syfy in July.

With Cheap Thrills finally arriving today on Movies On Demand, I’m willing to bet that a lot of you are planning to cuddle up tonight and descend into this movie's fast track to madness.

At its center Cheap Thrills shows an encounter between the conniving and the conflicted, focusing on two old acquaintances that force themselves to challenge each other with extreme acts of deplorable human behavior. It’s also a hell of a lot of fun, and they win lots of money.

The day after the film’s raucous premiere at Fantastic Fest back in September, actors Pat Healy and Ethan Embry sat down with Dread Central to talk a little about the film.

PH: Oh, Dread Central, the Rastafarian magazine, right?

DC: (laughs) That’s right. We only cover horror films from Jamaica.

EE: (laughing) That’s probably one of your top shelves! That was really good, buddy.

PH: Yeh, Dread Central, mon! No, I know what is, I’m just teasing.

DC: So, I’m guessing last night was probably the craziest premiere you’ve been a part of in a while. At least, the first one where you’ve taken your pants off, I hope.

PH: No, I can’t say that that’s true.

EE: Usually, it’s after the movie.

PH: I knew I was going to do that because I had the pants still and everything and I knew that it would be of value to someone. I certainly don’t care. I’m not that attached to them. The kid that got ‘em was the kid who dipped his balls in the sriracha sauce. I ended up talking to him after that all night, and we had VIP seats at the [Fantastic] Debates. He told me it was one of the greatest nights of his life.

EE: Out of context, that sentence is going to be very interesting.

DC: So, Pat, you were originally up for David Koechner’s part, right?

PH: Yeah, they wanted me to play this part, Craig, and I’m not financeable or whatever. The producers or someone who was giving money somehow was trying to get a bigger name to do it. So, when I met with them, it was with the intention that I’d be playing Craig, but they let me know that such-and-such and so-and-so was going to be reading for that part. So, they asked me if I would be interested in this role of Colin and I was disappointed but I loved this script and it wasn’t something I’d done before. Certainly, on the page it’s different. It is the role that it is because David played it and he does all the improv that he does. I can’t imagine that now.

EE: He brought an entirely different thing than what was on the page.

DC: It’s a lot more physical.

EE: It’s hard to see it any other way now.

PH: I don’t know what I would have done. My mind went immediately to some kind of sleazy, Hollywood hipster guy. It took a couple of months with casting and trying to get the money together and then this movie Compliance came out and it did pretty well. So that finally convinced them to hire me.

DC: Were earlier versions of the script a lot gorier and a lot darker? There’s really only one really gory scene and I think that the fact that it happens that way makes it a lot more powerful when it happens. Was there anything that went further than that?

EE: Not in what I read.

PH: There are earlier drafts from what I understand. There’s one that’s much more broadly comic and I think there’s one that’s much more dark. I think Evan [Katz] said something like that they kill a pregnant woman or something in one. If that was in the script, I probably would have asked for that to be removed.

EE: Because it doesn’t go that far. It really doesn’t. It doesn’t go beyond plausibility.

PH: It’s just trying to shock people and there’s nothing in our movie that’s just to shock. Everything logically follows from what comes before it and that’s what I liked about the script. That’s why the movie moves so well.

DC: Do you think that if Vince was a family man, too, it would have gone as far as it did? Or even further? One of the things I like about the movie is it’s asking the question of who is going to go further? Someone who has everything to lose or someone that has nothing to lose?

EE: Without ruining anything for people who haven’t seen it, I think that the reason why I stop doing what you think I’m about to do is because all I have to think about is myself. And I think I stop doing it for the same reason that he does it. He does it for his family. There are still selfish reasons behind it but I think the reason why I stop doing it is because I think about his family. Because it’s just me, I’m the only one that pays the consequence. Being a father, ninety percent of what I decide to or decide not to do is based on my son’s well-being. So, I think if he had a family I think he would have continued.

PH: I like a twist in the movie that [Vince] is the only truly moral person and you think of him as the dirtbag. He’s the one that really has a code and stands by his word. There’s a great vulnerability to his character that’s sort of unexpected.

DC: Do you think the film will be therapeutic in a way for some people that have held some old grudges?

PH: You know what’s amazing? I don’t have a grudge with this guy but my old punk rock buddy from high school lives here now with his family and he came last night. And we haven’t seen each other for twenty years. He’s been in the Gulf War, Iraq, and Afghanistan and we reconnected recently. It was just really emotional for me. We did have that kind of relationship. He couldn’t stop smiling and he couldn’t stop hugging me. It’s interesting that I could kind of relate to that experience and I’ve certainly had relationships that did not stand the test of time. I wondered what would have happened if I’d stayed around.

DC: How crazy was the set? Was there a lot of Dubstep pumping out? With all the fake drug use, were you doing jumping jacks to stay pumped up? How was the atmosphere?

PH: The entire shoot was fourteen days and eleven of those days was the stuff in the house. It was a hundred degrees and we had a heat wave around the middle of September. It was like a hundred and twenty in a house without air conditioning. We didn’t have any prep time and it’s a tough movie so it was really crazy intense. You know the big scene in the movie where the big scene happens and it’s all gory and crazy? Somebody lost the chip from the camera that that was shot on. It got recorded over.

DC: Oh no, you had to do it all over again?

PH: I had to do it again two days later. That was insane. I’ve been telling people, it was like the microcosm of that Apocalypse Now documentary or Burden of Dreams about the making of Fitzcarraldo. It was like that but like a mini-version. And actually, someone did film everything so, someday, they’ll be a documentary.

EE: As crazy as that shit was and as panicked as it could feel, and as kinetic as the sort of energy we had going on, I am only happy on a set. I am the most content as a human and as a man doing what I live to do.

DC: Well, you really grew up on set more so than Pat, I believe.

EE: That’s my home and I know Evan found his home. Everyone was the orphan that finally got adopted by Orphan Annie’s Pop. It’s just my home now. It’s the most uncontrollable, wild ride ever.

If you're a horror fan in the Los Angeles area, then the New Beverly Cinema has probably had your weekend plans covered once or twice. This Saturday it's a 35mm screening of 1990's Child's Play 2, complete with a pre-movie Q&A with awesome guests.

Screening this Saturday, February 22nd, at 11:59 PM, Child's Play 2 is part of Brian Collins' Horror Movie A Day / New Beverly Midnights ongoing series. It means you get to enjoy one of the best films in an admittedly terrific franchise, and it should be an absolute joy to experience with a group of enthusiastic horror fans.

The New Beverly Cinema is located at 7165 Beverly Blvd., Los Angeles, CA. Tickets are only $8 and can be purchased here. The doors open at 11:59 PM, and the event will feature a Q&A with screenwriter/Chucky creator Don Mancini and director John Lafia.

I always loved this particular trailer as a kid - it's got the right level of humor and menace - and fondly recall begging my parents to let me see it in theaters. They didn't (jerks!), and so you LA readers should absolutely take this opportunity to go in my stead!

XLrator Media's latest film from The Butcher Brothers, entitled Holy Ghost People (review), is now in limited theatrical release; and we have an entire image gallery full of their weird beliefs right here for you, free of any threats which may come via snakebite.

The film is directed by Mitchell Altieri – one half of the Butcher Brothers (The Hamiltons, The Thompsons) – and written by Kevin Artigue & Joe Egender, Altieri, and Phil Flores (the other half of the Butcher Brothers).

Synopsis

Jeffrey Donovan (“Burn Notice”) and Matthew Fox (“Lost”) star in the post-apocalyptic horror movie Welcome to Harmony, which serves as the English-language debut of Spanish director Miguel Ángel Vivas' (Kidnapped).

Ahna O’Reilly (The Help), Quinn McColgan (Non-Stop), and Clara Lago (I Want You) co-star.

Jaume Collet-Serra (Orphan) and Juan Sola are producing through their Ombra Films banner along with Hernany Perla (Ghost Team One). Vivas and Alberto Marini adapted Juan de Dios Garduno’s bestselling book Y pese a todo.

Production has begun in Budapest.

Synopsis
Nine years after an infection turns most of humanity into rabid creatures, Patrick, Jack, and Lu, a nine-year-old girl, survive in seeming peace and calm in the forgotten snow-covered town of Harmony. We nonetheless sense that something terrible happened between Patrick and Jack because a deep hate keeps them apart. When the creatures appear again, Patrick and Jack will have to leave behind all rancor to protect the one being who means more to them than anything else.

We've been waiting to see what Eli Roth will be doing next, and finally the word has come. According to The Wrap, Roth is reuniting with his buddies from Aftershock, Nicolas Lopez and Guillermo Amoedo, for Knock Knock.

Roth will direct from an original screenplay he co-wrote with Lopez and Amoedo. Roth will also produce with Colleen Camp (Squirrels to the Nuts), a veteran actress who can currently be seen in American Hustle.

The story follows two young girls who show up unexpectedly at the home of a married man, where they seduce him and wreak havoc on his perfect life. For us that means lots of boobs, blood, and mayhem! So good!

Knock Knock, which is budgeted under $10 million, is scheduled to start production in April.

Finally next week the Olympics will be over and all our favorite TV shows return to the airwaves. Among them is "The Vampire Diaries," and here's a clip from Episode 5.14, "No Exit," in which Matt was clearly hoping he was returning to an empty house.

Later, when Stefan tries to comfort a dejected Caroline, their conversation leads to a horrifying realization.

Working on the inside of the movie business, we've been privy to some things that are so completely far-fetched that they will leave you scratching your head. Case in point: this conversation actor Patrick Hercamp had with filmmaker Ivann DeCarlo.

Apparently DeCarlo had contacted Hercamp about being in his upcoming zombie movie. The results are... well, you just have to read it yourself.

Much respect to Hercamp for handling this situation with dignity and grace. But before you go on a witch hunt for DeCarlo, AND YOU SHOULDN'T as people like this are better off left alone, Hercamp offers this nugget of wisdom on his Facebook page...

"Even though I was verbally abused and threatened by this guy...don't stoop to his level and go out on a witch hunt for him. It was more of a cautionary tale of what people to avoid."

Amen to that, Patrick. Pure class. God love ya!

With time working against them, Marcel realizes he may hold valuable information that could lead them to Rebekah and Klaus, but revealing it will almost certainly result in deadly consequences.
