Jane Levy on Evil Dead 2 - TV Show May Have Swallowed Its SoulDuring Comic-Con news broke that an "Evil Dead" TV show was on its way starring none other than Bruce Campbell. Recently AITH caught up with remake star Jane Levy to ask about the sequel to the remake, and things don't sound good at all.

"I don't think they're gonna make it," she tells the site. "I mean, they're always coming up with a new thing - now I hear they're making a TV show. I was like, what? [Laughs] I think they just like exciting their fans and confusing them. I honestly don't know, but it doesn't seem like there's going to be an Evil Dead 2 anytime soon. At least, not with me in it."

Remake Synopsis:
A secluded cabin. An ancient curse. An unrelenting evil. The original producers reunite to present a genuinely terrifying re-imagining of their original horror masterpiece. Five young friends have found the mysterious and fiercely powerful Book of the Dead. Unable to resist its temptation, they release a violent demon on a blood-thirsty quest to possess them all. Who will be left to fight for their survival and defeat this unearthly force of murderous carnage?

First Images Show Off a Truly Killer RackIndie film company Slaughtered Lamb Productions has released the first set of stills from Killer Rack, a horror comedy shooting at the Pierce Arrow Film Arts Center in Buffalo, New York. Check 'em out right here!

The film, written by Paul McGinnis, is directed by Gregory Lamberson (Slime City Massacre, Dry Bones) and is co-produced by Lamberson, McGinnis, and Rod Durick (Filming the Undead: How to Make Your Own Zombie Movie).

Newcomer Jessica Zwolak stars as Betty, a young woman who discovers her new breast implants are man-eating monsters. Debbie Rochon co-stars as Dr. Cate Thulu, Lloyd Kaufman plays psychiatrist Howard Foin, and Brooke Lewis voices the titular monsters.

The photos depict Betty's initial examination by Dr. Thulu and a confrontation which occurs later in the film. Robert Bozek plays Thulu's nurse, Herbie East. Additional photos are behind-the-scenes shots of a disarming date between Betty and her boyfriend, Dutch (Sam Qualiana, writer-director-star of Snow Shark: Ancient Snow Beast and The Legend of Six Fingers, both of which Lamberson produced), post surgery. Betty's boobs, fabricated in all its incarnations by special make-up effects artists Arick Szymeci and Stacey Book, are being kept under wraps.

"We shot fifteen pages of the script, all featuring Jessica, Debbie, and Bob, our first weekend," Lamberson says. "Debbie brings her A game every time, but she's brilliant as Dr. Thulu. She did some great improvisations and added a lot of physicality to her role that set the bar for the entire production. Jessica appears in 90% of the film and has to be on set every day of principal photography, and she is doing a tremendous job. Her comic timing has been impeccable, and her fearless performance is going to make her a B-movie star. Bob and Sam have been in a lot of films, but I've never seen them funnier."

Killer Rack shoots weekends through the end of September. Genre veterans Kaufman, Roy Frumkes (Street Trash), and Michael Thurber (Exhumed) all have upcoming scenes. Richard Chizmar of Cemetery Dance Publications, Tim Walton and Tim O'Hearn of Crow Nan Productions, Cheryl Clements and Ann Voelkel of River Ridge Reels, and John and Terence Kimmel of Impulso Indo Investments are executive producers, and Marc J. Makowski and John Maclay are producers. Chris Rados is the cinematographer, Armand Petri is the music director, Phil Gallo is editing, and Brett Piper is providing stop-motion animation.

Archstone Bringing the L.A. Slasher to International TerritoriesIt sounds as if the L.A. Slasher will be setting his sights on the entire world as word has just come in to us that Archstone Distribution picked up the flick to rep international sales on top of the previous domestic signing with Circus Road.

The film stars Danny Trejo (Machete), Mischa Barton (“The O.C.”), Dave Bautista (Riddick), Eric Roberts (The Dark Knight), Drake Bell (“Drake & Josh”), Brooke Hogan (“Hogan Knows Best”), Tori Black (Not Another Celebrity Movie), and Marisa Lauren (“Superhero Movie”), with the voice of Andy Dick (“NewsRadio”) as the "L.A. Slasher."

Synopsis
Produced by Jeffrey Wright and Daniel Sollinger (Girls Against Boys), L.A. Slasher is a biting, social satire about reality TV and the glorification of people who are famous for simply being famous. It explores why it has become acceptable and even admirable for people to become influential and wealthy based on no merit or talent - purely through notoriety achieved through shameful behavior. Incensed by the tabloid culture which celebrates it, the "L.A. Slasher" publicly abducts a series of reality TV stars while the media and general public in turn begin to question if society is better off without them.

Shane Johnson Talks The Possession of Michael King

Shane Johnson Talks The Possession of Michael KingThe possession sub-genre of horror is a tough sell lately, but actor Shane Johnson dove into the title role of The Possession of Michael King in a big way. He recently sat down with Dread Central to talk about his approach to the part and his feelings about the film.

Although he often reads scripts from the horror genre, Johnson was immediately drawn to this movie and the character of Michael King. "The thing that attracted me to this piece in particular is that it really spoke to me," Johnson said.

He added, "I could really relate to this character. He starts off having a traumatic experience in his life and that sort of propels him into questioning. Questioning life, questioning the afterlife, questioning things. The thing I liked about it is you get to see all angles of it from his perspective. You get to see a full hero's journey of a guy entering the unknown and it overtaking him. For me as an actor, it was really exciting. And also there aren't very many opportunities as an actor that you get to really jump into a character that has as much screen time but really, more than anything, gets to walk the full journey. Usually it's an ensemble piece and everyone gets their little bit. But this is all about the psyche of this guy and opening up a can of worms and watching him deteriorate. I loved it!"

Johnson talked about how the movie's writer/director David Jung managed to wring out every bit of intensity Johnson could give to the role. "Getting to work with David Jung was awesome," Johnson said. "Great collaboration. What's funny was that every time I thought I was bringing my A-game and I was thinking I was at a 10, I put everything I had into a scene. Everything, like I'm sweating and thinking I should see a doctor right now. David would come over and say, 'So listen…you're at about a five right now, and I need you at 11.'"

Wanting to bring everything he could to the table, Johnson began absorbing as much information as he could that was pertinent to the role. "Thankfully I had a couple of months to prepare for this movie," Johnson said. "I took that time to really go through and watch everything I could get my hands on and kind of see what works and what doesn't work. Because there's a lot of what doesn't work out there. So I was just seeing what really works in those films. I saw a couple movies where I was thinking 'that guy or that girl really understands this' and they would pull it off. For example, in The Last Exorcism, Patrick Fabian, who played Cotton Marcus, the guy really bought into it and committed to the whole situation, really went on the journey. I really did my homework. I watched a bunch of stuff and read a bunch of stuff. I studied up on demonology and necromancy. I really did my homework so I felt like I came into the project with some ammunition. And I had to put on my best acting chops. I wanted the audience to be able to forget they were watching a movie and just have an experience."

In addition to preparing mentally for his role in The Possession of Michael King, Johnson also found it necessary to prepare physically. "Ninety-five percent of the stuff you might question as to whether or not it's a camera trick is not a camera trick," Johnson said. "That was another part of my preparation. I said, 'Okay, I've got a few months here. I'd better do some yoga, some working out and be ready to be physical.' In some of those scenes you look at it and go, 'Oh, that looks pretty physical.' But you've got to remember I was doing that for a whole day. I crawled up the stairs on my hands and knees probably 50 times in one day."

The Possession of Michael King is a movie that used its effects wisely and effectively. Johnson talked about working with the props. "I loved it, I loved it! Johnson said. "Getting set on fire was a blast! It takes a while to apply the prosthetics, but once we were working with them, it was pretty trippy. I'm looking down at myself going, 'Wow, it looks real!' The experience was great, and I think what was captured on camera was pretty fantastic."

If prosthetic wounds and fire weren't enough, Johnson had something else out of the ordinary to deal with on the set. "The ants," Johnson said. "Ninety-five to ninety-eight percent of those ants were real. They hunted for quite a while to find a guy that breeds ants. And they got these large carpenter ants because in screen tests regular ants didn't show up. They're tiny and they're not scary. So they got these huge, huge ants you could almost put a saddle on and ride around. In one shot you can see one crawling into my ear. That was really happening. I was thinking, 'I hope he yells "cut" before it goes into my head.'"

In closing, Johnson shared his hope for The Possession of Michael King. "I really feel this film is worthy of exposure," Johnson said. "That's my real hope, that it gets the exposure it deserves because I think fans of the genre will respond to it."

Anchor Bay Films is releasing the highly-anticipated, terrifying supernatural horror film The Possession of Michael King in theaters on August 22nd and available On iTunes, On Demand, DVD, and Blu-ray on August 26th.

Synopsis
The film tells the story of documentary filmmaker Michael King (Shane Johnson), who doesn't believe in God or the Devil. Following the sudden death of his wife, Michael decides to make his next film about the search for the existence of the supernatural, making himself the center of the experiment – allowing demonologists, necromancers, and various practitioners of the occult to try the deepest and darkest spells and rituals they can find on him – in the hopes that when they fail, he'll once and for all have proof that religion, spiritualism, and the paranormal are nothing more than myth. But something does happen. An evil and horrifying force has taken over Michael King. And it will not let him go.

Sin City: A Dame to Kill For - The Cast and Crew Speak!

$

Sin City: A Dame to Kill For - The Cast and Crew Speak! You know you’ve arrived – not just as a filmmaker but as a human being – when President Barack Obama comes over to your pad to hang out poolside and have some lunch. Though Robert Rodriguez was coy about that bit of info slipping out at the Sin City 2: A Dame to Kill For press conference in Beverly Hills last week.

He did admit he made pizza pies for the prez. “Yes, we had POTUS pizza,” he quipped.

Also on hand for the Dimension Films event were Rodriguez’s co-director, Frank Miller, and stars Jessica Alba, Josh Brolin, Eva Green and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Based on Miller's Dark Horse Comics series, the sequel includes two segments derived from existing storylines A Dame to Kill For and Just Another Saturday Night plus brand-new original stories The Big Fat Kill and The Long, Bad Night. Favorite characters seen in the first film are back (with a vengeance, of course!): Alba as exotic dancer Nancy, Bruce Willis as Hartigan, Mickey Rourke as muscle Marv, and there are some new faces as well -- Green as femme fatale Ava, Gordon-Levitt as lucky Johnny, and Brolin slips in seamlessly as Dwight (who was played by Clive Owen in the first film).

The sequel has Rodriguez and Miller recreating the stark, dark and contrasty look of the first flick, shooting entirely against a green screen and in 3D. The scenery was added later, and they took great care in digitally manipulating the lighting and design in post-production. “It’s like being an artist,” said Rodriguez. “You pencil out your sketch first, then you fill it in.

For Miller’s part, he thinks the whole process is rather like reverse-engineering. “We take a movie and make it into a book.

Q: What was it like shooting with so much green screen?

Josh Brolin: You have to find the cadence. The cadence doesn't come to you. It's the kind of movie you really have to dive into. You can't manipulate the movie. And you can't manipulate Frank Miller's mind.

Frank Miller: Many have tried.

Miller said that although some things are ingrained – “I draw the way I draw,” regardless of whether or not he knows who might be playing certain individuals in a film – in some ways he’s evolved as a storyteller. “I am far more aware of character than I used to be,” he said.

Q: How did you newbies feel, stepping into the legendary Sin City?

Josh Brolin: I was a big fan of the first movie, but this one is different. The opportunity to be able to do it was really unnerving, but when I watched it afterwards, it was one of the few movies that I've done where I thought, 'Thank God I'm in this movie. I'm really proud to be in this movie.' I would go see a few times if weren't in it, but because I'm in it, it would seem pretentious.

Q: What did you like best about it, Joe?

Joseph Gordon-Levitt: I liked the cover page of the script, where it said, “Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller.” [What I really liked about it was] you get to become a cartoon in a way. We're not in the real world, in Sin City.

In fact, Levitt revealed that it was totally unreal from Day One. On his very first day or work, he shot two surreal scenes, back-to-back: one with Christopher Lloyd and one with Lady Gaga!

Eva Green: Playing Ava, it was a challenge to still be believable and lie all the time... she's so bad, so that was very fun. No conscience. No sense of right or wrong. She's pretty evil. But it was interesting to play all these different women in one.

Though the actors had some challenges, the co-directors’ mettle was also tested. It’s not easy to top an unforgettable first film, or at least try to compare. Dashing the hopes of Starbucks scribes everywhere, Rodriguez said the secret to great writing is a great environment. “Everything around you needs to be inspiring,” he said.

Q: How has Nancy evolved since the original film?

Jessica Alba: Nancy is devastated. She's an alcoholic, she's still dancing, and she's not happy about it. That wasn’t easy, all those skimpy costumes, because I'm a mom. I have two kids. I run a company. I'm not this drunk stripper, so I really had to get into that headspace of the character. But I liked playing a character who goes from being a sweet, innocent, naive victim to this very powerful warrior who takes her life into her own hands and gets revenge.

Revenge is indeed the name of the gory game in Sin City 2: A Dame to Kill For. Although it’s not a horror film, the body count is just as high as any – not to mention eye-gouges, eviscerations, bludgeoning and blood (mostly white… but just as flowing as the red stuff). See for yourself when the film opens nationwide on August 22, 2014.

Six More Join HBO's Westworld Series

Six More Join HBO's Westworld SeriesCurrently in the works over at HBO is a series adaptation of Westworld, a 1973 film written and directed by Michael Crichton. As shooting readies for the pilot episode, a whopping six new actors have joined the cast, and we've got all the latest info for you today.

Per TV Line, Jeffrey Wright (pictured; "Boardwalk Empire"), Rodrigo Santoro ("Lost"), and Shannon Woodward ("Raising Hope") have joined the sci-fi drama pilot. Additionally, Ingrid Bolso Berdal (Hercules), Angela Sarafyan (The Good Guys), and Simon Quarterman (The Devil Inside) have been added to the ensemble.

As previously announced, Anthony Hopkins and Evan Rachel Wood will also star in the series, revolving around a futuristic theme park where robots go berserk and attack the guests

Hopkins is set to play Dr. Robert Ford, the brilliant, taciturn, and complicated creative director, chief programmer, and chairman of the board of Westworld, who has an uncompromising creative vision for the park — and unorthodox methods of achieving it. Wood will portray Dolores Abernathy, the quintessential farm girl of the frontier West — who is about to discover that her entire idyllic existence is an elaborately constructed lie.

Below you'll find a rundown of the characters the six new actors have been cast to play.

Wright | Bernard Lowe: The brilliant and quixotic head of the park’s Programming Division, Bernard’s keen observation of human nature provides him with boundless inspiration for his life’s work: creating artificial people.

Santoro | Harlan Bell: Terrifying and brutal, with a dark sense of humor, Harlan is Westworld’s perennial “Most Wanted” bandit. He subscribes to the theory that the West is a wild place, and the only way to survive is to embrace the role of predator.

Woodward | Elsie King: A sardonic rising star in the Programming division, Elsie is charged with diagnosing the odd quirks of behaviors in the park’s hosts.

Berdal | Armistice: A savage fighter and brutal bandit, her ruthlessness with her victims is surpassed only by her abiding loyalty to her fellow outlaws.

Sarafyan | Clementine Pennyfeather: One of Westworld’s most popular attractions, every aspect of Clementine is perfectly beguiling, by design.

Quarterman | Lee Sizemore: The narrative director of Westworld, his inspired storylines consistently delight or terrify the guests — and his artistic temperament consistently grates on his colleagues.

J.J. Abrams will executive produce alongside veteran producer Jerry Weintraub and Bad Robot's Bryan Burk. "Person of Interest's" Jonathan Nolan, who co-wrote the pilot, will executive produce and direct as well. Lisa Joy co-wrote the pilot and will exec produce. Kathy Lingg will co-EP and Athena Wickham is a producer on the Warner Bros. Television drama. David Coatsworth is set as a co-EP and line producer with Susie Ekins set as a co-producer. "Westworld" hails from Abrams' Bad Robot Productions, Jerry Weintraub Productions, and Kilter Films.

Septic Man Release Details
Starz Digital Media is set to release the award-winning horror film Septic Man this summer. The film will be available On Demand and for digital download August 12 and will have a limited theatrical run on August 15. The DVD will be available August 19.

From the creators of Monster Brawl, Exit Humanity, and 2014’s Hellmouth and Ejecta, Septic Man dazzled audiences at the 2013 Fantastic Fest, where its star Jason David Brown (Exit Humanity) won “Best Actor” in a horror feature. The film also garnered a prize at Toronto After Dark 2013.

Septic Man follows Jack, a sewage worker who is determined to uncover the cause of the town's water contamination crisis. During his investigation, he becomes trapped underground in a septic tank and undergoes a hideous transformation. He must team up with a docile Giant and confront a murdering madman in order to escape. Septic Man is an odyssey into the darkest depths of gross-out horror.

Septic Man was directed by Jesse Thomas Cook (Monster Brawl) and written by Tony Burgess (PontyPool). It co-stars Molly Dunsworth (Bunker 6, Hobo with a Shotgun) and Robert Maillet (The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones).

A Macabre Texas Chainsaw-like Discovery Made in New York!

A Macabre Texas Chainsaw-like Discovery Made in New York!A jogger in New York could not have expected nor wished to see as much of the mad and macabre as she saw recently while on a run. Could the Sawyer clan have moved up to the Big Apple? Read on for a truly weird story!

NBC LA reported on a rather interesting story: Police launched an unusual investigation after one runner made a surprising, creepy discovery while on a jog in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park Wednesday, August 6th.

The jogger, Kate Steciw, found what appeared to be a human skeleton wearing a Brooklyn Nets hat, a T-shirt, goggles, and sweatpants standing up on display behind a wrought iron fence near a path in the southeastern portion of the park, near Ocean Avenue. Filling out the tableau were four paintings of flowers arranged in the foreground and an American flag hanging from the trees behind.

Police removed the skeleton on Wednesday and on Thursday determined that it was a plastic prop. But the twisted scene still gave residents pause.

I took a picture of it, and then I got a queasy feeling because it looked so, so real,” said Steciw, who then called the police but had a hard time getting her point across. "I was trying to explain to them that it was a skeleton standing upright, dressed in clothes with objects arranged around it."

Complete Saw Box Set Coming in SeptemberIf you're like us, then the Saw franchise is taking up some considerable space on your Blu-ray or DVD shelves. Well, Lionsgate gets that and as a result will be releasing a complete box set of all seven films. We have no details for you at press time, but we do have the artwork.

Lionsgate is currently actively developing an eighth Saw film based on the franchise created by James Wan and Leigh Whannell. They are looking to get back to their torturous ways and seeking a new direction for the franchise that took over Halloween for nearly a decade.

There appears to be no rush on Lionsgate’s part, however, as they’re seeking the perfect take to move forward. There were rumblings of a remake while many insiders say that they want to continue with Saw 8.

So what do you guys want? A remake/reboot? Another sequel? Or should well enough just be left alone? Sound off below!

Sony Teases Horror Hell Ahead of Gamescom

Sony Teases Horror Hell Ahead of GamesComSnow may bring up the image of Christmas, family, presents, and, for me personally, climbing out of the bathroom window to have a smoke; but all the cheeriness and merriment of wintertime was bludgeoned in two as an axe falls in Sony’s latest teaser trailer. All before a foreboding ice crack.

This is the second teaser trailer Sony has released ahead of Gamescom next week. The first displayed a snowflake getting smacked by a spattering of blood. No one knew what upcoming game they were teasing, but the presence of an axe now has everyone narrowing down the subject to horror.

Pundits are suggesting that this could be one of two games. Most feel this means fans are finally going to get their hands on Until Dawn, the slasher game that was slated for the now dead PlayStation Move. There have been rumors of the game having been reworked for Sony’s upcoming virtual reality headset Project Morpheus.

But there have been some saying that this could be a teaser for an upcoming Resident Evil game. With the original Resident Evil receiving the remaster treatment in 2015, the timing for a new entry in the series would make sense. This would be a huge announcement and could easily anchor Sony’s appearance at Gamescom.

Expect a full reveal at Sony’s upcoming press conference at Gamescom on Monday, August 12th, at 10:00 am PT/1:00 pm ET.

Check out both teasers below.

Exclusive: Writer Jeff Buhler Enters Pet Sematary Remake

Exclusive: Writer Jeff Buhler Enters Pet Sematary RemakeWriter Jeff Buhler tipped us off exclusively this morning to the news that he’s come aboard director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo’s Pet Sematary reboot for Paramount as the project’s screenwriter, and we chatted with him regarding the property. Dive in!

Buhler, who is known to genre audiences for scripting 2008’s Clive Barker-inspired Midnight Meat Train and writing and directing that year’s feature Insanitarium (and who is also penning the remake of the 1990 film Jacob’s Ladder for LD Entertainment and Ghost House Pictures’ re-launch of The Grudge franchise), said of Pet Sematary, "I’ve been working with Juan Carlos on his rebooted, re-imagined version."

He added, "Paramount had a script from Matt Greenburg and then brought Juan Carlos on, and they were looking to do some work on the script, and then I came in. Juan Carlos and I collaborated on a new outline for the film, Paramount loved our pitch, and I’ve been writing the first draft of the script. It’s very exciting."

Commenting on the original 1989 horror classic, which was directed by Mary Lambert and based on the novel of the same name by horror legend Stephen King, "The original has a very special place in my heart," said Buhler. “The film fits perfectly in the time period [in which it was produced], and the source material is one of the Stephen King books that I read as a teenager that made me flip out, and I’ve read it more than once since then. It’s a fantastic book and a fantastic story.”

With the narrative revolving around a family that moves into a new home next to a cemetery with powers that allow the creatures buried in it to come back from the dead, Buhler stated of his approach to the remake, “Now that I’m a father and I have a six-year old and a two-year old, all of the horror within that story that comes from losing a child is suddenly very real and tangible and utterly tragic [to me]. I think the one element that we are trying to bring to this version of Pet Sematary is a sense of truth and honesty in the horror and really take it back to the original material. I think that in the 80’s movie it’s a little campy in places, and we are trying to get away from all of that and really get back to the core of the story, which is that of the family dealing with grief from the loss of their child and the horror of breaking the laws of nature as a result of that. Juan Carlos in particular is very focused on the emotional elements and how they could be represented in a visual context that is compelling.”

“We are being very respectful to the book,” he continued, “and we are not tying ourselves to anything in the first two films at all. We are [also] bringing in some fresh elements that speak to the spirit of the story that aren’t in either one.”

“If you look at the core of it, of what’s going on with the family, it’s an absolutely disturbing story,” Buhler offered. “I think the heart of the story has to do with Louis and his relationship with his kids and grappling with that dilemma when kids ask you what happens when you die and what you believe in. It deals with these big questions in such a personal way, and that is classic Stephen King. They are huge ideas, but they are told through a very identifiable, close-knit family unit, and that’s so powerful so we are just immersing ourselves in that - the loss, the grief, and the horrific results of people making really, really bad decisions.”

As for the tone of the script as it pertains to the eventual film’s intended rating, “I try not to get too hung up on that while writing, especially because this isn’t like a Texas Chainsaw where there’s going to be a lot of ripped open abdomens and people chewing on intestines or anything like that,” he said. “It’s already going to exist somewhere on that line between R and PG-13. If the studio feels like they need to market it as PG-13, then it will be the most hardcore PG-13 movie you could get away with. There are a couple of deaths, but with this one the horror is a little more atmospheric. The big concern of course is that you are killing children, which studios are always loathe to do, but it’s a King story and that’s at the center of it so Paramount knows what they are getting into. There’s no question that kids are gonna die.”

“We’ll be done with the first draft by the end of the summer,” Buhler said of the current status of Pet Sematary, which is being produced for Paramount by Lorenzo DiBonaventura and Mark Varhadian.

“Juan Carlos and I have been working very closely from the beginning so I think the process will be very quick. It’s not going to be one of those situations where there’s a script that the studio likes but then they bring on a director who has a bunch of new ideas and then it goes back into the scripting process for another six months. Because we are doing everything with the director from the beginning, hopefully we won’t be far from where we need to be [with the first draft] when we are done.”
