Sequel to Give Goosebumps 2

Around these parts we’re huge fans of the big screen adaptation of Goosebumps so news of a sequel has us elated! According to THR Sony is moving forward on a sequel to its 2015 family frightfest, closing deals to bring back director Rob Letterman and writer Darren Lemke.

Deborah Forte and Neal H. Moritz are returning as producers.

Goosebumps, while not a massive hit, was a solid performer for the studio, generating $80 million domestically and another $77 million internationally on a budget of $58 million. The film also has performed well in home entertainment circles.

The movie was the climax of an 18-year journey to adapt the best-selling book series by R.L. Stine, which was first set up at Fox in 1998 before moving to Sony in 2008. One of the keys of cracking the adaptation included making Stine a character and tackling not just one story but populating the film with a host of his horror creations.

Jack Black portrayed Stine in Goosebumps. The goal is to have him return for the sequel.

Bret Easton Ellis Among The Deleted for Fullscreen

Another VOD service is on the verge of launching called Fullscreen, and with it comes news that American Psycho author Bret Easton Ellis is getting set to take the director’s chair for a new original property called The Deleted.

According to Deadline Fullscreen is a global, Netflix-like, ad-free subscription video on demand service for teens and young adults. This morning it fleshed out some of the details, including a plan to distribute a Bret Easton Ellis-directed thriller series called The Deleted.

The company owned by Otter Media — Peter Chernin’s joint venture with AT&T — says the $4.99-a-month service will enable users to search for shows based on their “vibe.” For example, they can say whether they want to “feel all the feels,” “learn new things,” or “laugh till it hurts.

Fullscreen will be the premier launch sponsor and help promote the service — called Fullscreen — to its more than 100 million video, mobile, and broadband customers. They will co-produce programming that will run on Fullscreen as well as a programming block on the AT&T Audience Network, which goes to its DirecTV and U-verse subscribers.

We created a new kind of entertainment experience which merges the things we love about premium content and social media,” Fullscreen CEO George Strompolos says. “We’re building it for an audience we know and love — a social-first mobile-first generation. We look forward to creating, learning, and evolving at Internet speed.”

The company says that The Deleted is about the “disappearance of three seemingly unconnected people from Los Angeles [that] triggers a collective paranoia among a group of twentysomethings, all of whom escaped from a cult ‎several years back.

Um… We’ll check the service out, but programming blocks with silly names like “feel all the feels” are kind of an instant turnoff to me and I’m sure many others. Maybe I’m getting older, but shit like that just ain’t “on fleek.

Reluctantly, he faces the fact that performing exorcisms is the only thing he’s truly good at even though it’s wearing him down and making his life utterly miserable.

In a quite appropriate offering to fans everywhere, YouTuber and musician Joachim Horsley put out a video last year (so yeah, we missed it; better late than never, no?) of him playing the famed Psycho theme on piano with knives.

Not since the infamous shower scene was recreated with kittens have we been so jazzed to share something. Check out the video below. Sit back, relax, and crank up your sound. Then argue if the theme from Re-Animator is a complete ripoff or not. It’s inevitable.

We’re High on this Sun Choke Poster

We’ve been talking about the indie flick Sun Choke (review) for quite some time now, and finally you guys are gonna be getting a chance to see it for yourselves. While we wait, dig on this new poster.

Sun Choke Release Details:
XLrator Media has acquired North American distribution rights to the thriller SUN CHOKE and will release the film this summer on its acclaimed “MACABRE” genre label. The film has played over a dozen festivals including FrightFest and the Stanley Film Festival.

Written and directed by Ben Cresciman (Negative Space), SUN CHOKE stars iconic horror film actress Barbara Crampton (You’re Next, Re-Animator, Lords of Salem), Sarah Hagan (“Freaks and Geeks,” “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”), and Sara Malakul Lane (17 & Life: Jailbait, Kickboxer: Vengeance) along with Evan Jones, Joe Nieves, and Jim Boeven. The film features a haunting score by noted musician/producer Boom Bip (aka Bryan Hollon).

“SUN CHOKE is a deeply unsettling psychological thriller in the vein of Roman Polanski’s Repulsion that will leave audiences emotionally shaken and questioning the line between reality and nightmare. It’s an impressive, assured work that marks Ben Cresciman as an important filmmaker to watch,” said XLrator Media CEO Barry Gordon.

Janie (Hagan) is just trying to get well. As Janie recovers from a recent violent psychotic break, she’s subjected each day to a bizarre holistic health and wellness regimen designed, and enforced, by her lifelong nanny and caretaker, Irma (Barbara Crampton). Janie begins to veer off the road to recovery when she develops an obsession with a young woman, Savannah (Sarah Malakul Lane), to whom Janie feels an inexplicable yet profound connection. The obsession turns increasingly invasive and wedges all three women into an ever-tightening and terrifying struggle for control. Will Janie pull herself back from the precipice of insanity? Or will she go over head-first, taking everyone down with her?

SUN CHOKE is produced by Georg Kallert, Rob Schroeder, and Peter J. Nieves of Lodger Films with Wandie Kabule, Leigh Jones, and Ian Keiser.

The deal was negotiated by XLrator Media’s Barry Gordon with BoulderLight Pictures’ Raphael Margules and JD Lifshitz on behalf of the filmmakers. Ben Cresciman is repped by Marc Manus at Manus Entertainment.

No, not the slasher franchise starring WWE supertsar Kane… what we’re talking about here is a redux of the 1971 classic that starred Mia Farrow.

Screen Gems is developing a remake of See No Evil, and according to Deadline, Mike Scannell will write the new script. Unbroken Pictures’ Bryan Bertino and Adrienne Biddle will produce with Screen Gems President Clint Culpepper and EVP Production Scott Strauss overseeing for the studio.

The original See No Evil starred Farrow as a young blind woman who returns to her uncle’s English country home, only to discover her family murdered and the killer still in the house. Richard Fleischer directed Brian Clemens’ script.

Screen Gems and Unbroken are already partnered on the horror thriller He’s Out There, also penned by Scannell and to be directed by Dennis Iliadis. Bertino is also working on the screenplay for The Strangers 2, a sequel to the 2008 pic he wrote and directed. He is in post on the fantasy horror film Stephanie starring Frank Grillo and the horror pic There Are Monsters starring Zoe Kazan and Ella Ballentine.

On tap right now is the trailer for one of the more buzzed about cult documentaries in quite some time, Holy Hell! Read on for the goods.

From the Press Release:
FilmRise announced today that it has acquired U.S. distribution rights for the documentary, Holy Hell, which premiered at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival. The distributor will release the film theatrically on May 20, 2016.

The film is an inside look at a secretive, spiritual cult formed in 1980s West Hollywood. Director Will Allen joined the group just after graduating from film school and as he became more deeply involved, he began filming his experiences as the group’s unofficial videographer. It wasn’t until after Allen left the cult that he understood the film he’d been making for over twenty years. Working with producers Alexandra Johnes and ex-cult member Tracey Harnish, Allen decided to use his footage to take others on his journey. Holy Hell is executive produced by Michael C. Donaldson, Cheryl Sanders, Julian Goldstein and Academy Award®-winner Jared Leto, who describes the film as “relentless, haunting and unforgettable.”

“Following its headline-making run at Sundance, we are elated to be bringing this gripping film to audiences come spring,” said Danny Fisher, CEO of FilmRise. “Ultimately this is a remarkable film about the human condition, and I am confident that audiences will be engrossed by this captivating story, told by those who lived it.”

“I am so happy that FilmRise will be releasing Holy Hell in theaters for communities to experience together,” said filmmaker Will Allen. “This story is very personal but also universal, because it could have happened to anyone. And seeing how broadly it resonated at Sundance makes me excited to share it with the rest of the world.”

The deal was negotiated between Fisher, FilmRise’s VP of Acquisitions Max Einhorn representing the distributor with Donaldson Califf’s Dean Cheley and Michael Donaldson representing the filmmakers along with Andrew Herwitz, President of The Film Sales Company. Herwitz noted that there is also substantial television interest in the film around the world.

80’s Vampires Suck on DVD

$

A really obscure little vampire movie from the 80’s entitled Vampires is getting set to put the bite on DVD, and right now we have your first look and details.

From the Press Release:
At a prestigious all-girls prep school, things go terribly awry in the underground horror flick Vampires, resurrecting on DVD May 10, 2016, from Film Chest Media Group.

Originally filmed as the second part of the 1989 cult anthology classic Fright House, this would be the last film of Len Anthony (Murderous Intent, Document of the Dead). Principal cinematographer Ernest Dickerson went on to shoot Spike Lee’s Do the Right Thing and direct several episodes of AMC’s iconic horror series “The Walking Dead.”

With a unique spin on the vampire genre, full of camp, heavy synth music, and thought-provoking horror, Vampires is the perfect timestamp of ’80s schlock cinema.

An eager young student, Ione (Orly Benyar; Fright House, Ninja Academy), is excited to begin the next chapter of her life when she is awarded a scholarship to attend the prestigious art school at the Abadon estate in New England… which happens to have a distant history of working with the criminally insane.

Soon after arriving on campus, she begins to realize something is amiss with the student body. When some classmates go missing – and no one can seem to account for their whereabouts – Ione decides to investigate.

While searching for clues, Ione encounters Dr. Charles Harmon (Duane Jones; the doomed hero from the horror classic Night of the Living Dead, Ganja & Hess, To Die For), who tells her about Madeline Abadon (Jackie James; Over the Brooklyn Bridge, Fright House) and her quest to suck the youthful energy from students in order to gain immortality.

Charles is then encumbered with the harrowing task of disarming Madeline and her “mad scientist” machine… but will he be able to end the demonic foray on campus before it’s too late?

Vampires is presented in full screen with an aspect ratio of 4 x 3 and original sound.

PAX 2016: Outlast 2 Footage Looks Terrifying

$

Developer and publisher Red Barrels dropped the first snippets of gameplay footage from Outlast 2 at PAX, and just like the first game, it looks friggin’ terrifying.

Featuring an all-new different cast of characters from its predecessor, Outlast 2 follows a journalist named Blake Langermann, who is traveling with his wife, Lin, to a remote town to investigate the murder of a pregnant woman. But something causes their helicopter to crash, separating them and leaving him stranded in the middle of nowhere. But maybe he’s not as alone as it seems…

The footage shows Blake uncovering horrors deep in the remote wilderness whilst desperately searching for his wife and a direction home. Form what we’ve seen, it looks like it will just as, if not more, terrifying than the first game, so we’ll definitely be keeping a close eye on Outlast 2 before it hits Steam later this year.

Synopsis:
Outlast 2 is the sequel to the acclaimed survival horror game Outlast. Set in the same universe as the first game, but with different characters and a different setting, Outlast 2 is a twisted new journey into the depths of the human mind and its dark secrets. No conflict is ever black and white.

We’ve been holding off posting the synopses of The CW’s genre shows for the week of May 9th because they’ve been keeping the season finale of “The Vampire Diaries” under wraps, but now the cat’s out of the bag, and along with the synopses of “TVD” Episode 7.22, “Gods & Monsters,” we also have a look at what’s ahead on “Containment,” “Supernatural,” and “The Originals.”

Nothing really stands out except things aren’t looking good for Castiel, that’s for sure!

“Containment” Episode 1.04 – “With Silence and Tears” (5/10/16; 9:00-10:00 pm)
LIES AND MORE LIES — As the situation inside the cordon grows more dire, Lex’s (David Gyasi) frustration builds as he becomes increasingly conflicted by the messages of false hope he’s being forced to send to the public.  When Jana (Christina Moses) suspects something is off with Lex’s demeanor, she realizes the situation may be more serious than the government is letting on and devises a plan to reach Lex directly.  At the hospital, Dr. Cannerts (George Young) continues working towards finding an antidote, while Jake (Chris Wood) helps Katie (Kristen Gutoskie) cope with some personal issues.  Elsewhere, Leo (Trevor St. John) becomes concerned for his friends inside the cordon and turns to an unlikely ally to help him.  Finally, a turn of events at the grocery mart leaves Teresa (Hanna Mangan Lawrence) and her mother in a terrifying position.  Chris Grismer directed the episode written by Michael Jones-Morales.

IFC Midnight will be releasing Sacrifice, in which Radha Mitchell co-stars with Rupert Graves, on April 29th; and now we have two clips for you sickos!

Sacrifice, written and directed by Peter A. Dowling, will screen in New York at IFC Center and will be available On Demand and via all Digital platforms. After its late April debut, the film will screen in Los Angeles at the Arena Cinema Hollywood beginning on Friday, May 6th.

Along with Mitchell and Graves, the film co-stars David Robb and Ian McElhinney. The producers include Peter Lewis, Tristan Lynch, Aoife O’Sullivan, and Arnold Rifkin.

Synopsis:
Disturbing secrets lie buried in the bogs of a remote island in this spellbinding thriller. Shortly after surgeon Tora Hamilton (Radha Mitchell) moves with her husband (Rupert Graves) to the Shetland Islands – 100 miles off the coast of Scotland – she makes an unnerving discovery: the body of a young woman with strange symbols carved into her flesh and her heart ripped out. When what at first appears to be the remains of a victim of an ancient ritual turns out to be a fresh corpse, Tora is plunged into a dangerous mystery that may be connected to the dark myths of the island’s folklore.
