Microsoft recently revealed that they are renewing the Killer Instinct trademark. Could this mean a return of the fighting series? Will we see the return of the most insane combos in a fighting game ever? Read on to learn more.

Fans can rejoice that the Killer Instinct trademark has been renewed! Microsoft revealed this new information on PlayXBLA, “We have either renewed or refiled a trademark application in various jurisdictions.” Rare previously held the trademark, but was taken over by Microsoft in 2002 along with the trademark.

Killer Instinct is a 2D Fighting game, developed by Rare Ltd. and published by Nintendo, which was released in 1995. Killer Instinct plays like many other fighting games, in which the player controls a character in order to beat an opponent in a one-on-one encounter.

FX Legend Steve Johnson Instructs Classes 4 Characters

Ever wanted to learn how to run a mold or design a character makeup from the man who provided some of the groundbreaking FX for the classic An American Werewolf in London? For those in L.A., here’s your chance, as the legendary artist Steve Johnson is primed to instruct Classes 4 Characters.

Commencing this October in Van Nuys, CA, Classes 4 Characters was formed out of the idea that makeup artists should be able to choose which area of SPFX they want to learn, as opposed to paying for lengthy and expensive makeup schools. Made up by a collective of well-known and respected industry SPFX artists (including Johnson, Cleve Hall of Syfy’s “Monster Man”, Vincent Guastini of The Devil’s Carnival, cast members of Syfy’s “Face-Off” and more), the workshops are designed for working artists who simply cannot take time away from busy work schedules and intended to offer them the opportunity to refine their skill sets.

Said Johnson of his involvement with Classes 4 Characters (which offers quick workshops in the areas of Prosthetics, Prop-Making, Body Painting, Hair-work, Eyes and Teeth, Tattoo Covering-Temporary/Tattoo Application, and Digital Creature Design), “ I'm very excited to be the inaugural instructor. This will be a unique opportunity for students to get hands-on experience in short, easy-to-digest bites - once a week, on Sundays in October. Come on down, and let's have fun and make magic!"

For more information and workshop schedules, email Classes 4 Characters at info@classes4characters.com, visit their official site here, and "like" them on Facebook here.

Top Seven Supermarket Slaughters

The supermarket is one of the centers of the community. It's a place where neighbors go to buy their groceries while catching up with each other. They exchange stories, laughs and gossip in a friendly, comfortable atmosphere. That's a nice picture, but unfortunately it's not always the case in reality.

In fact, as we get further and further from the "Leave it to Beaver" era, the supermarkets we visit are usually "superstores" and almost never owned by a member of the community anymore. But maybe there is something to be said for a place where you can go to buy a pound of baloney, a prom dress and get an oil change all in one stop…and we wonder why "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo" is the hottest show on television. Save us from the superstore.

Top Seven Supermarket Slaughters

This leads us to Bait 3D (review here). This all-new horror film hits DVD and Blu-ray on September 18 and features action surrounding a supermarket submerged by a freak tsunami! And you thought the parking was limited at your local Walmart. The survivors find themselves trapped in a very precarious situation and realize they must work together to survive. Hey, if the high prices don't get you, the great whites will.

To celebrate the release of Bait 3D, we're taking a look back at some past supermarket nightmares (and we're not talking about the price of coffee, although that is frightening enough - yowza!). We mean horrific scenes like you'll find in Splinter or the memorable peaceful moment amid a world of insanity in 28 Days Later. Or how about the hilarious (and bloody) intro to From Dusk Till Dawn…well, that was a liquor store, but one man's vice is another man's staple. Anyway, those are just the honorable mentions! Plenty of bad things happen in the supermarket. Take a look at our Top Seven Supermarket Slaughters.

The Mist (2007)
The Mist is certainly one of the crown jewels of horror films set in a market. It's a classic, claustrophobic Stephen King tale of desperation and hopelessness…and it has an OMG ending that no parent can watch without experiencing the sensation of a dagger stabbing through their heart. The Mist is the story of a diverse group of individuals trapped in a local grocery store after a mysterious fog drifts over their town. Unfortunately for them, this particular fog contains horrendous, unspeakable horrors which terrorize the survivors inside the store. And fans of "The Walking Dead" know that The Mist was an early collaboration among some of the key players from the show with writer/director Frank Darabont and performers Laurie Holden, Jeffrey DeMunn and Melissa McBride all working together years before they would get lost in a zombie apocalypse in Atlanta.

Zombieland (2009)
Perhaps no one has ever risked more for a Twinkie than Woody Harrelson's character, Tallahassee, in Zombieland. In pursuit of the soon to be extinct snack, Tallahassee and his partner, Columbus (Jesse Eisneberg), venture into a supermarket that just happens to be loaded with large, bloodthirsty zombies. Containing a beautiful tribute to Deliverance, which includes Harrelson's rendition of "Dueling Banjoes" and the line "You got a purty mouth", the supermarket scene in Zombieland is wonderfully humorous and gruesome. And it may be the only scene in the history of horror where a guy beats a zombie to death with a banjo.

Shaun of the Dead (2004)
Although not a large amount of time was spent in the actual market in Shaun of the Dead, the store was Shaun's destination during one of the funniest scenes in the film. Shaun walks to the market totally oblivious to the zombie infestation around him. Upon arriving in the market, which also happens to be overrun with walking dead, Shaun not only doesn't notice the bloody handprints on the soda cooler door, he actually slips in a puddle of blood and also thinks nothing of the fact that the clerk (who is no doubt zombie food at this point) isn't even there to take his money, which he simply leaves on the counter ("a few quid short!"). This stroll to the supermarket was the perfect start for what became one of the genre's most beloved horror-comedies in a long time.

CONTINUE TO PAGE 2 FOR MORE!

Army of Darkness (1992)
"That's right…Shop Smart: Shop S-Mart. You got that?!" Who could forget that our favorite slayer of Deadites, Ashley J. "Ash" Williams, had quite the showdown with an evil baddie in his place of employment, the S-Mart, in the culmination of Army of Darkness? The S-Mart provides a great background for Ash to go wild one last time. Decked out in his snappy S-Mart uniform, Ash is seen describing how he could have been king to a co-worker (played by Ted Raimi) when suddenly a Deadite appears with bad intentions and Ash is forced to go all medieval on her ass. A great finish to a legendary horror series.

Universal Soldier (1992)
Okay, so maybe Universal Solider isn't known as a horror film, but you can't deny the brutality of this scene. Sgt. Andrew Scott (Dolph Lundgren) has gone off the deep end. He drags two dead bodies into the market cooler while wearing a necklace made out of ears. He's also accompanied by a guy eating raw meat from the supermarket butcher's counter. In between trying to make dead guys stand at attention and shooting police officers in the head, Sgt. Scott goes on an impressive paranoid rant about traitors and how we need to fear and destroy them. This supermarket scene really injects a horrific element into this memorable movie.

Alien Raiders (2008)
Directed by Ben Rock, this film is all about the supermarket. Alien Raiders begins with what appears to be a late night supermarket hold-up/hostage situation, but we find out there is much, much more going on here. As it turns out, the attackers are not after money, but an alien parasite that is inhabiting the people barricaded within the market's walls. The film is a mysterious whodunit kind of experience that originally carried a working title of…that's right…Supermarket.

Natural Born Killers (1994)
After getting bitten by a rattlesnake in the desert, Mickey and Mallory Knox need to find an antidote for the venom and invade a drugstore. This is one of the most outrageous and game-changing scenes in this legendary film. The action begins with Mickey icing a clerk for hitting the alarm and ends with Mallory getting apprehended by the police, a big shootout and Mickey's capture and beating at the hands of the police force. This is a huge transition scene that not only ends up with our two anti-heroes in custody but shows the insane lengths to which Detective Jack Scagnetti is willing to go to capture them.

There you have seven supermarket adventures that should get you primed and ready for Bait 3D, which drops on DVD and Blu-ray today!

Fantastic Fest 2012: New Trailer and Artwork for Lost Aussie Film Wake in Fright

    0

It's always nice to see a lost film find its way back to its audience, and that is indeed the case with Wake in Fright. The flick is set to screen at this year's Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas, but we also have the skinny on when and where you can dig on it should you not be in the Longhorn State.

Ted Kotcheff's award-winning film Wake in Fright opens theatrically in New York on October 5th at The Film Forum (NYC), October 19 at The Nuart (LA) and will have a national release to follow in major cities after screening at Fantastic Fest 2012 this week (Drafthouse Films).

    FANTASTIC FEST 2012 SCREENING TIMES:
Saturday, September 22 at 9:00pm (ALAMO LAMAR)
Wednesday, September 26 at 12:00pm (ALAMO LAMAR)

“Wake in Fright is a deeply – and I mean deeply – unsettling and disturbing movie. I saw it when it premiered at Cannes in 1971, and it left me speechless. Visually, dramatically, atmospherically and psychologically, it's beautifully calibrated and it gets under your skin one encounter at a time, right along with the protagonist played by Gary Bond. I’m excited that Wake in Fright has been preserved and restored and that it is finally getting the exposure it deserves.” –Martin Scorsese, 2012

“Powerful, Genuinely Shocking & Rather Amazing!” -Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun Times

“The Best & Most Terrifying Film About Australia In Existence.” -Nick Cave

Alongside Mad Max and Walkabout, Wake In Fright is widely acknowledged as one of the seminal films in the development of modern Australian cinema. Combining the backwoods horror of Deliverance and the gritty nihilism of Straw Dogs, the film tells the story of a British schoolteacher's (Gary Bond) descent into personal demoralization at the hands of drunken, deranged derelicts (including a very inebriated "doctor" played by Donald Pleasence), while stranded in a small town in outback Australia.

The film made its world premiere at the 1971 Cannes Film Festival, where it was nominated for a Palme D'Or and its US distribution rights were sold. Retitled Outback and hurried into a few theaters across the country, the film barely played for more than a week before it was yanked from circulation due to poor attendance and lack of advertising. Wake in Fright vanished into obscurity, barely reviewed by American critics and not ever appearing on domestic VHS or DVD.

For over three decades the film materials were thought to be lost until the film's persistent cinematographer unearthed the original negative elements in Philadelphia in canisters marked for destruction just one week away from its impending incineration. The materials were painstakingly restored frame-by-frame at Sydney's At Lab Deluxe with the support of the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia. The new restoration was invited back to Cannes by guest curator Martin Scorsese, where it held the honor of being one of two films to ever screen twice at the festival (the other being Antonioni's L'Avventura).

Virtually unseen in the US and renowned in its home country after years of neglect for its daring criticism, Wake in Fright is ripe for rediscovery and returns after 40 years to reclaim its title as one of the most awe-inspiring, brutal and stunning films of all time.

Wake in Fright is the story of John Grant (Gary Bond), a bonded teacher who arrives in the rough Australian outback mining town of Bundanyabba, planning to stay overnight before catching the plane to Sydney. But, as his one night stretches to five, he plunges headlong toward his own destruction. When the alcohol-induced mist lifts, the educated John Grant is no more. Instead there is a self-loathing man in a desolate wasteland, dirty, red-eyed, sitting against a tree and looking at a rifle with one bullet left.

Exclusive: Trailer, Photos, Actress Talks Full Moon's Reel Evil

With the teaser trailer for the Full Moon feature Reel Evil having hit the web today, we caught up with one the flick’s actresses Jamie Bernadette to discuss the Danny Draven-directed, Charles Band-produced found-footage film. Read on!

Written by Shane Bitterling, Reel Evil follows (according to the film’s synopsis), “Struggling filmmakers Kennedy, Cory and James, who finally catch the break they are looking for, when they are hired to shoot a 'behind-the-scenes' documentary for a major studio production. But their dream job quickly turns into a nightmare when they explore the legendary, haunted location and find something far worse than anything Hollywood could create. Terror becomes reality for the filmmakers as they uncover the malevolent secrets of the hospital, and the sinister doctor who once ran it.” Rounding out the cast is Jessica Morris, Jim Tavaré, Kyle Morris, Christian Edsall, Sandra Hinojosa, Michael Cline, Jeffrey Adler and Lino Dumont. Director Draven edits, with cinematography handled by Thomas L. Callaway.

Said Bernadette (who just wrapped the featureAxeman at Cutter’s Creek and who in Reel Evil portrays the role of the production’s beleaguered makeup artist ‘Claire’) of what attracted her to the latter project, “I have always wanted to do a found-footage style horror film ever since I saw The Blair Witch Project. That film disturbed me so much that I couldn't sleep the night after I saw it. When I met Charles Band and Danny Draven at my callback audition for Reel Evil, I thought they were super nice and easy-going. So, it was the genre and the people involved (that attracted me).”

Arriving to the set of Reel Evil (which was shot the Linda Vista Hospital near downtown Los Angeles this past August), Bernadette recalled of the production, “I quickly realized that Full Moon is an organized, professional company. They were extremely efficient. Working with Danny (Draven) was a wonderful experience. He has a calm, pleasant demeanor, and he made me, and everyone on the crew, feel welcome.”

Bernadette’s next genre film will be Rogue River director Jourdan McClure’s Hell Hunters , which is slated to roll this fall, in which she’ll star alongside Anthony Michael Hall, William McNamara, and genre vets Bill Moseley, Lin Shaye and Michael Berryman.

Reel Evil releases to DVD and VOD on December 4th, 2012. For more on the flick, "like" Reel Evil on Facebook

Stephen King's The Shining sequel, entitled Doctor Sleep, is being released on September 24th, 2013, by both Scribner and Hodder & Stoughton as opposed to the originally announced date of January 15th, 2013. Hell, we waited this long; what's a few more months?

    Synopsis:
Stephen King returns to the characters and territory of one of his most popular novels ever, The Shining, in this instantly riveting novel about the now middle-aged Dan Torrance (the boy protagonist of The Shining) and the very special twelve-year-old girl he must save from a tribe of murderous paranormals.

On highways across America a tribe of people called "The True Knot" travel in search of sustenance. They look harmless—mostly old, lots of polyester, and married to their RVs. But as Dan Torrance knows, and tween Abra Stone learns, The True Knot are quasi-immortal, living off the “steam” that children with the “shining” produce when they are slowly tortured to death.

Haunted by the inhabitants of the Overlook Hotel where he spent one horrific childhood year, Dan has been drifting for decades, desperate to shed his father’s legacy of despair, alcoholism, and violence. Finally he settles in a New Hampshire town, an AA community that sustains him, and a job at a nursing home where his remnant “shining” power provides the crucial final comfort to the dying. Aided by a prescient cat, he becomes “Doctor Sleep.”

Then Dan meets the evanescent Abra Stone, and it is her spectacular gift, the brightest shining ever seen, that reignites Dan’s own demons and summons him to a battle for Abra’s soul and survival. This is an epic war between good and evil, a gory, glorious story that will thrill the millions of hyper-devoted readers of The Shining and wildly satisfy anyone new to the territory of this icon in the King canon.

Well, there was a pre-order link on Amazon when we first posted this story, but it appears to have been taken down. Once it's back, we'll be sure to let you know!

Exclusive - Director Drew Goddard Talks Cabin in the Woods, Robopocalypse and More

For those of you out there who may have missed it when it hit theaters earlier this year (and if you did, seriously- what is wrong with you?), Drew Goddard's The Cabin in the Woods (review) hit DVD and Blu-Ray shelves everywhere today courtesy of Lionsgate.

To celebrate its home release arrival, Dread Central recently chatted with Goddard about all things Cabin in the Woods including balancing the tone of the writer/director's odd-ball story, creating likeable characters out of your usual stereotypical genre movie victims and how he managed to pull off one of the biggest moments of collected cinematic chaos in Cabin in the Woods.

We also briefly chatted with Goddard regarding his experiences collaborating with a certain Mr. Spielberg on the upcoming epic robot vs. humans flick Robopocalypse. Check out the highlights of our exclusive interview with Goddard below and look for more with Cabin in the Woods' loveable pot-head Marty (Fran Kranz) tomorrow!

SPOILER ALERT: The following interview is filled with spoilers; if you have NOT seen Cabin in the Woods yet, we recommend you go check it out first and then come back to read our interview with Goddard afterwards.

Dread Central: First of all, congratulations on this film once again-it was by far my favorite horror film of this year; the most fun I had all year was taking my friends to go see it just so I could see their reactions as that third act unfolds.

Drew Goddard: Thanks! I love that this movie ended up surprising so many people. That's the best compliment you can get as a filmmaker.

Dread Central: Definitely; considering it seems that there aren't really any surprises left in the genre these days anymore. Another surprise of Cabin was the tone- was it difficult for you as the storyteller to walk that line where if you go too far one way, you're in spoof territory but if you go too far the other way, you're taking the story way too seriously?

Drew Goddard: It really was; I think the trickiest thing I learned while working on Cabin in the Woods was to not be too inside with our gags and humor. Even though there's a humor to all of this, there still had to be real characters to this story so we had to give them their moments. The perfect example are Bradley (Whitford) and Richard (Jenkins) in the control room- even though they're a huge part of the humor, we still had to care about them as people too in some ways even though they are definitely the antagonists in this.

Dread Central: So how do you write a villain or antagonist that audiences care about? Was there something that influenced Bradley and Richard's characters while you were writing them?

Drew Goddard: The antagonists for me were so integral because I think one-note villains are so boring for fans to watch so I love that both sides of this story are equally represented in Cabin. And these guys were influenced by my own hometown and the idea of this atomic bomb shelter-like structure that exists below the surface in suburbia. It's a wild idea to think this kind of place could exist beneath the surface and I wanted to tap into that wildness and blend that with the weirdness of suburban people who may be normal but have really abnormal job. You know, like killing teenagers (laughs).

Dread Central: And of course there's also the kids in the cabin too- they're playing stereotypes but for a specific reason; can you discuss balancing out those characters as well?

Drew Goddard: It was hard- so hard- because of the nature of these characters and the fact that they were stereotypes, that was the easy part because we've all seen kids like this before in horror movies. The challenge was- how do you take those stereotypes and make them into characters audiences actually care about. It always pisses me off when you're watching a movie where there's a group of kids and none of them ever care when their friends are getting killed. That seems unnatural and says something about character development.

In Cabin, you see these kids care about each other and want to help each other survive. If we didn't have that, we wouldn’t have had a successful movie.

Dread Central: Cabin in the Woods as a whole is ambitious but that third act is by far one of the most insane things I've ever witnessed as a horror fan on the big screen. How do you manage that kind of chaos as a director and did your budget ever dictate the amount of action you guys jam-packed into the third act?

Drew Goddard: It was chaos, absolute chaos but worth it (laughs). And yeah, that whole control room sequence was a nightmare because all we had written in the script for that moment was …then all hell breaks loose" so it became a challenge to define hell breaking loose so we just went all out. I was always aggressive about protecting our budget and most of our budget went towards the third act. It seems like these days a lot of people cut their budget in the third act which is why a lot of movies fail to finish as strongly as they start so I always knew that these moments would be the biggest of Cabin. But that one sentence- that "…then all hell breaks loose" moment- man, was that the most expensive line of this entire project. (laughs)

But we worked for years on all of those monsters; I don't even remember how many there were by the end but I would imagine hundreds. At a certain point though, we kind of run out of monsters so some of them are intentionally silly- like having just a German Shepard in there. Oh- and Kevin. Kevin is my favorite (laughs).

Dread Central: Not to riff on the movie title but let's talk about Kevin- I've seen the movie three times now and I still can't find him. He's in there, right? (laughs).

Drew Goddard: Oh yes, Kevin is in there (laughs). You really have to look for him but he's in there.

Dread Central: I know there's probably not much you can tell us about Robopocalypse yet but can you talk about your experiences collaborating with (Steven) Spielberg for that project?

Drew Goddard: Oh wow, it's been amazing; if you had told 12 year-old Drew that one day he’d be sitting in a room working with someone like Steven, I think my young mind would have just exploded at the very idea of that so I've always been aware of how lucky I have been in this business so far and to be working with Steven on Robopocalypse has been the most wonderfully surreal experience in my career so far.

We are just a few days away from the release of Dredd (review), and to keep you in the spirit of things, we have a new featurette detailing everything the good judge needs to render his unique verdicts on the bad guys! Dig it!

Karl Urban stars in the Dredd 3D title role along with Lena Headey, Olivia Thirlby, and Domhnall Gleeson. The flick is based on the acclaimed comic series by John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra. Look for it in theatres on September 21st.

Related Story: Breakin' the Law with New Stills, Clip, and Featurette from Dredd

    Synopsis
The future America is an irradiated wasteland. On its East Coast, running from Boston to Washington, DC, lies Mega City One- a vast, violent metropolis where criminals rule the chaotic streets. The only force of order lies with the urban cops called “Judges” who possess the combined powers of judge, jury, and instant executioner. Known and feared throughout the city, Dredd (Karl Urban) is the ultimate Judge, challenged with ridding the city of its latest scourge – a dangerous drug epidemic that has users of “Slo-Mo” experiencing reality at a fraction of its normal speed.

During a routine day on the job, Dredd is assigned to train and evaluate Cassandra Anderson (Olivia Thirlby), a rookie with powerful psychic abilities thanks to a genetic mutation. A heinous crime calls them to a neighborhood where fellow Judges rarely dare to venture: a 200-story vertical slum controlled by prostitute turned drug lord Ma-Ma (Lena Headey) and her ruthless clan. When they capture one of the clan’s inner circle, Ma-Ma overtakes the compound’s control center and wages a dirty, vicious war against the Judges that proves she will stop at nothing to protect her empire. With the body count climbing and no way out, Dredd and Anderson must confront the odds and engage in the relentless battle for their survival.

The endlessly inventive mind of writer Alex Garland and director Pete Travis bring Dredd to life as a futuristic neo-noir action film. Filmed in 3D with stunning slow-motion photography sequences, the film returns the celebrated character to the dark, visceral incarnation from John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra's revered comic strip.

FEARnet Nabs Tales from the Crypt

It's been a long time, kiddies, but everyone's favorite anthology show is headed back to the airwaves as FEARnet is poised and ready to bring The Cryptkeeper home to your television. Read on for details.

    From the Press Release
The Emmy Award-winning anthology horror series “Tales from the Crypt” returns to network television starting Friday, October 5, when FEARnet debuts TV versions of the groundbreaking program on its linear channel and presents original episodes on its VOD platform. This marks the first time that “Tales from the Crypt” can be seen on network TV since 2004, when it was previously syndicated.

The TV “Tales from the Crypt” episodes will premiere Friday nights in a two-hour block on FEARnet from 10 p.m. to 12 midnight ET/7 p.m. to 9 p.m. PT and will be re-aired on Mondays in the same time period. The 93 produced episodes will play in order, beginning with season one and continuing through its seventh, and final, season.

The original cable versions of “Tales from the Crypt,” running from 1989 to 1996, are now available for the first time since their first airing, for FEARnet’s VOD platform.

Starting Wednesday, October 10, the premiere episodes will launch on FEARnet’s VOD platform, which is currently available in more than 26 million homes. On FEARnet’s industry-leading VOD Channel, the episodes will be presented in their original unedited format. Four episodes will be added to the VOD library every Wednesday, ensuring that there will always be something new and fresh for viewers to watch. Each episode will remain in the VOD library for six weeks.

After becoming the new president and general manager of FEARnet in August 2010, Peter Block wanted to bring this classic horror series to the network as his first order of business. In making the announcement today, an elated Block said: “‘Tales from the Crypt’ was the first time that horror writers, directors and actors came together in one place to produce a TV series to celebrate the genre. ‘Tales’ had everything – comedy, gore, splatter, slash, thrill and suspense – and it quickly became appointment television. I knew that this series was the perfect vehicle to complement our programming, and although it took us two years to acquire it, it was well worth the wait.”

Joel Silver, who produced numerous Hollywood hits including such franchises as Die Hard, Matrix, and Sherlock Holmes, also served on “Tales from the Crypt’s” all-star team of executive producers that included Richard Donner (Lethal Weapon), Robert Zemeckis (Forrest Gump), Walter Hill (48 Hours) and David Giler (Prometheus). Said Silver: “We’re incredibly pleased that FEARnet is the new TV home to both versions of ‘Tales.’ We are proud of the work that we accomplished on this series, and we believe, as FEARnet does, that the episodes are just as effective now as they were when they originally aired. It’s exciting to be able to introduce this cult classic now to a new generation.”

“One of the best things about ’Tales from the Crypt’ is that it’s an anthology series, so you’re always getting to see something new and different each time you tune in,” said Sarah Shannon, FEARnet’s director of programming. “It is our hope to augment the series with specially produced bonus content. We are grateful to the producers for offering us exclusives from the series and access to historical materials. From this, we should be able to produce some extra goodies that will be loved by the fans.”

Based on a creepy compilation of stories from the provocative EC line of horror, crime and suspense comics, “Tales from the Crypt” brought those animated specters of terror to life in unforgettable episodes featuring unlikely genre turns from a variety of modern Hollywood stars such as Brad Pitt (Se7en); Patricia Clarkson (Shutter Island); and Daniel Craig (Skyfall).

In the month of October alone, FEARnet viewers will be treated to timeless episodes like “And All Through the House,” based on the classic “Vault of Horror” entry about a maniacal Santa Clause terrorizing a murderous housewife on Christmas Eve (Oct. 5); “Collection Completed,” directed by Mary Lambert (“Pet Sematary”) and starring M. Emmet Walsh (Blood Simple) as a recent retiree with a sinister plan for his wife’s adopted pets (Oct. 12); “The Sacrifice,” starring Michael Ironside (Scanners), about a murderous man being blackmailed for his deeds (Oct. 26); and “Four-Sided Triangle,” directed by Tom Holland (Fright Night) and starring Patricia Arquette (“Medium”) as a troubled woman in love with a scarecrow (Oct. 26).

Additionally, FEARnet fans will be able to access all-new “Crypt” content on FEARnet.com. These extras will include a gallery of “Tales from the Crypt” comic book covers that were used on the show; exclusive video clips such as this one* when FEARnet filmed the opening of the “Tales” storage vault; and “Cryptkeeper-isms,” a collection of classic one-liners from the Master of Scaremonies, himself.

Also, in promoting the launch of the series, FEARnet has teamed up with FRIGHT-RAGS, the leading producer of horror t-shirts and apparel, and Mondo, the Austin-based art gallery renowned for its stable of genre artists, to produce limited editions of give-aways championing “Tales from the Crypt” on FEARnet. The “Tales” themed FRIGHT-RAGS t-shirt will be given away to FEARnet and FRIGHT-RAGS fans beginning next month, and the Mondo designed “Tales” pint glass will be distributed at the upcoming Fantastic Fest at Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, TX.

Top 6 Danielle Harris Horror Roles

    $
    0
    0

The term “Scream Queen” might immediately bring to mind Jamie Lee Curtis, the star of Halloween, Terror Train and Prom Night, but a new Scream Queen is emerging to take the lead, and we can, once again, thank the Halloween series for bringing her to our attention.

Star of Halloween 4 and Halloween 5, Danielle Harris has exploded onto the horror scene, releasing several films a year for our viewing pleasure. In honor of her new release, The Victim; the upcoming The Ghost of Goodnight Lane; and her directorial debut, Among Friends, Dread Central is honoring our Scream Queen with a list of six of her best horror roles.

Top 6 Danielle Harris Horror Roles

    1. Annie Brackett in Rob Zombie’s Halloween and Halloween 2

Though they weren’t horribly popular with Halloween fans, one cannot deny that Rob Zombie has a way of bringing realism to his films. Danielle Harris brought such power to her role as Annie Brackett that we actually believed her pain after Michael viciously stabbed her multiple times. And let’s be honest; who didn’t feel that boulder in their stomach in Halloween 2 during the bathroom scene? While John Carpenter’s Annie was meant for comic relief, we all grew to love Rob Zombie’s Annie not only for her sense of humor but her adorable personality and were saddened when she met her violent but inevitable end.

    2. Jamie Lloyd in Halloween 4 and Halloween 5

At the young age of 11, Danielle began her horror career running away from the silent masked stalker Michael Myers. She gained our sympathy votes not only because she was a child but because she was just so darn cute! Cursed to be the niece of Michael, poor Jamie felt the hand of loss when she had to watch her family members die one by one, eventually going mute as a result. With the help of Dr. Loomis and with her own clever tricks, Jamie manages to defeat Michael not once, but twice. Poor Michael has the worst luck with the women in his family.

    3. Marybeth in Hatchet II

Assigning Danielle to the role of Marybeth in Hatchet II was the smartest move Adam Green could have made. That’s not to say that Tamara Feldman was bad in the role in the original, but let’s face it: Harris makes the movie. Having rounded up a group of giant redneck men with guns to help her kill Victor Crowley in the swamp of Louisiana, Marybeth stands as the sole survivor of the whole thing, yet again. In the end all it took to defeat Crowley was Marybeth herself and Crowley’s own hatchet.

    4. Tosh in Urban Legend

After years of absence from the horror genre, Danielle returned in 1998 to the role of the Goth college roommate Tosh in Jamie Blank’s Urban Legend. A big change from her role as Jamie in Halloween, Tosh is the rude, heavy metal listening, black wearing, guy on the internet meeting, promiscuous roommate of our heroine, Natalie. Having walked in on Tosh having sex once before, Natalie knew better than to turn on the light upon entering her room. Little did she know turning on the light would have saved Tosh’s life. Instead, she became an urban legend.

    5. Alissa in Blood Night: The Legend of Mary Hatchet

Alissa is invited to a party to celebrate the anniversary of the death of Mary Hatchet, a local serial killer. She establishes herself as this fun, sweet friend of one of the kids, but she never seems to be in the room when the teenagers start to die one by one. Coincidence? Not really. Alissa is actually the daughter of Mary Hatchet and seems to have inherited her mental problems. Danielle makes one adorable little killer and her story about her mouse tattoo makes the movie.

    />

    6. Maria in Cyrus

Danielle plays Maria, a news reporter trying to get the story of a serial killer in a small town. She is contacted by a local man who knows not only the killer's name but his story. Maria is so determined to further her career with this story that she doesn’t even notice how the whole thing is obviously a trap. Putting aside that her character is a bit dense, no one plays a lovable bitch quite like Danielle.

The Victim is on DVD and Blu-ray NOW! Keep your eyes and ears open for more information on the release dates of The Ghost of Goodnight Lane and Among Friends.
