Bill Moseley Discusses Chiller Channel's Dead Souls, Airing Friday, October 12There are no fools working at Chiller's offices. Nary a one. They all know if you want to generate interest for your original feature films, you need big name actors. And who's better to fill that role than the legendary Bill Moseley?

He recently sat down and discussed his upcoming role in the Chiller original film, Dead Souls.

Dead Souls airs Friday, October 12th at 9:00 p.m. on Chiller. Check out Chillertv.com for more info.

Moseley talked about what drew him to the film. "Dead Souls is cool because it's one of the things that I love to do and don’t really do very much of and that is supernatural films," Moseley said. "The book by Michael Laimo and John Doolan’s script were very, very cool. It’s a supernatural thriller, it’s a whodunit in a way but there certainly are horrific elements. The farm where we shot it in Connecticut actually had kind of a haunted history to it. So it was spooky and appropriately creepy and loads of fun to do. The first thing I did was to read Doolan’s script which was very spooky and cool. And from there I turned right to Michael Laimo’s novel and I loved his work. I’ve actually read a couple more of his books lately and they’re really a lot of fun. So that was really it. For me the story’s got to be there. If the story isn’t there then no matter how many special effects and good acting you have, without story the movie doesn’t have a heart. So once I read the script and saw that the story was intriguing, that’s what got me onboard first and foremost."

And even though it's being presented on television, the filmmakers certainly didn’t hold back on the F/X. "There is plenty of blood for the younger fans but this is not what I would call a hardcore blood and guts type movie," Moseley said. "I think it’s a lot more on the psychological side of things. And it’s a drama, it’s spooky but you’ll definitely see some deaths. One of the things I noticed was that certain words were not encouraged like swear words, vulgar words which had me thinking it’s going to have a kind of a lighter, kind of horror-lite, content. But when I actually shot my scenes there was nothing light about them. And then when I actually saw some of the previews that our director, Colin Theys, had shown me, there were certain moments in it that were downright grisly and frightening. So any thought that working in this particular medium for TV was going to somehow make it an easier view went right out the window because there are definitely some very heavyweight horror moments in this that I for one, appreciated."

Director Colin Theys also helmed Steve Niles' Remains for Chiller last year. Moseley spoke about his experience working with Theys. "I enjoyed it. I thought he was very well prepared," Moseley said. "I thought he was a very good director, low key, laid back. He knew exactly what he wanted. And he was very clear about communicating it. So there was no mind-reading and no yelling and screaming. He has a quiet confidence. And I’m sure that the work will show that."

Moseley will certainly be the most recognizable face in the cast for fans of horror. At this point, he's compiled quite a resume and is the 'grizzled vet' of the Dead Souls team. " It reminds me that acting is tough," Moseley said. "I realized that even though I might have a few more credits than the younger generation that it’s still hard. It’s a tough line of work. It’s very rewarding watching Jesse (James) and Magda (Apanowicz), I worked with them a lot. And both of them were really good. Noah Fleiss was very good, so was Geraldine (Hughes). It’s fun to be considered a part of the gang. But I’ve got to say that there are some jobs where you have all those credits and you’ve earned your gray hairs and the lines in your face. And somehow that's supposed to mean that you’re guaranteed to be doing a better job than everybody. But for me I find that it’s still just one foot in front of the other and praying for the best."

Not only did Moseley find the script and original story for Dead Souls frightening, but some of the filming locations were downright creepy themselves…especially the abandoned farmhouse where much of the film was shot. "There were some deaths or some murders in the actual farmhouse," Moseley said. "I remember that there was something about the previous owner of the property had had some kind of spooky spiritual background where he wasn’t exactly your typical Connecticut Christian. And there was something strange going on at the farm. I don’t know if that goes back to Salem witchcraft. It was just something spooky. I do remember that being there at night was a little scary actually. The location definitely came prepared with the proper vibes as well as the proper architecture."

When Dead Souls, which is set in Maine, airs on Chiller this Friday, October 12, Moseley will be able to hear the opinion of the New England fans first hand as he'll be attending the Rock and Shock horror festival in Worcester, MA that weekend. "I like to go to the conventions," Moseley said. "One of the things that I like to do is to actually mix with the fans. I’m sure there’ll be a lot of people excited about Dead Souls. I enjoy it. I like traveling. Sometimes I feel like the Willy Loman of the horror circuit. But I have a better attitude."

Never a man to rest on his considerable laurels, Moseley continues to create horror, both in front of the camera and with the writer's pen. "I feel good about the things that I have done," Moseley said. "It’s funny because I’m actually writing a couple of scripts right now. One of them would be more of a traditional character, more like a Chop Top type character for me. And that I’m well underway with so that would be I guess more like a revisiting. And then another one I’m working on with a director and that is not so much a straight horror but it’s about a spooky farm and a spooky couple with a bunch of adopted children. So it’s actually a little bit more real, less horrific so to speak, in the traditional sense. I’m interested in exploring that a little bit. Kind of man’s inhumanity to man. I mean there’s plenty of horror there."

As far as projects in the future, Moseley has another big one looming. "Beyond Dead Souls on October 12th is Texas Chainsaw 3D coming out January 4th from Lionsgate" Moseley said. "I’m very excited about that. I played the cook this time and not Chop Top which is a little strange. But it was loads of fun. It kind of takes me back to my horror roots."

Check out Bill Moseley in Dead Souls on Chiller on October 12 at 9 p.m.

Dead Souls Synopsis
Adapted from the novel by Bram Stoker Award Finalist Michael Laimo, Chiller’s latest original production Dead Souls tells a harrowing tale of family secrets and ancient evils.

On his 18th birthday, Johnny Petrie learns he was adopted when he inherits a farm in Maine, abandoned for the 18 years since his natural family died at the hands of his father, the local preacher. Eager for a new life, he leaves home to start over in his new dwelling. However, as he digs into his past, he soon uncovers the horrifying details of his father’s questionable teachings. In a frightening revelation, he also learns that his return has revived decades-old forces trapped in the home and sets in motion a heart-stopping finale to a ritual that already claimed the lives of his family.

Dead Souls stars Jesse James (The Amityville Horror, The Flyboys), Bill Moseley (Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, The Devil's Rejects, House of 1,000 Corpses), Magda Apanowicz (The Butterfly Effect), Noah Fleiss (Brick), Jaiden Kaine (Hellbenders) and Geraldine Hughes (Rocky Balboa, Gran Torino). Look for it on Chiller on October 12.

With the 12h annual and venerated Screamfest L.A. Film Festival running October 12th thru the 20th, we chatted today with director Marcus Dunstan, whose film The Collection kicks the whole thing off this Friday at 7:30pm.

We also scored a couple of behind-the-scenes photos in the process, as well as word on Rise. Read on!

Written by Dunstan and long-time collaborator Patrick Melton, The Collection serves as a high-octane sequel to their 2009 horror feature The Collector, and stars the returning Josh Stewart as ‘Arkin,’ Lee Tergesen, Christopher McDonald, Johnny Yong Bosch, Emma Fitzpatrick, Shannon Kane, Tim Griffin, William Peltz, Eaddy Mays, Michael Nardelli, Justin Mortelliti, Michael H. Cole, Arloa Reston and Courtney Lauren Cumming.
"We can't wait to unleash The Collection upon Screamfest this Friday night!,” Dunstan told us, whose previous writing credits with Melton include the Feast series and the bulk of the Saw film franchise.

“I can't imagine a better crowd to traumatize!” he continued “We'll be there in full force to lock the doors, kill the lights and watch the red spray down! The next morning we're off to New York for a Comic Con presentation on Sunday afternoon! Happy Halloween, indeed!"

As for what’s next on the horrific duo’s plate, "Patrick and I just turned in the first draft of Rise to Warner Bros and we're excited as hell to embark on the next phase of the sci-fi action film for director David Karlak,” Dunstan said of the script they penned for the man who served as the VFX supervisor on The Collector, and who is slated to direct Rise. “Karlak has a vision for the future that is as tense as it is heart-wrenching, and it has been a blast to work with an old friend."

The Collection Synopsis:
When Elena’s (Emma Fitzpatrick) friends take her to a secret party at an undisclosed location, she never imagined she would become the latest victim of The Collector, a psychopathic killer. The Collector kidnaps and transports her to an abandoned hotel he’s transformed into his own private maze of torture and death. Upon learning of his daughter’s disappearance, Elena’s wealthy father (Christopher McDonald) hires a group of mercenaries to retrieve her from the vicious grips of The Collector. These mercenaries coerce Arkin (Josh Stewart), the only man to have escaped the wrath of this heinous monster, to lead them through thegruesome labyrinth. Now, Arkin finds himself fighting for his own life in order to save Elena. “The Collection,” directed by Marcus Dunstan and written by Dunstan and Patrick Melton, is a suspense horror film with nonstop thrills at every turn, starring Josh Stewart (The Dark Knight Rises), Emma Fitzpatrick(The Social Network), and Christopher McDonald (Requiem for a Dream).

Screamfest L.A. 2012: Exclusive - Producer/Writers Talk True Love; Photos

With the 12h annual and venerated Screamfest L.A. Film Festival running this Friday, October 12th thru the 20th), we chatted today with True Love Italian producers and screenwriters Fabio Guaglione and Fabio Resinaro, regarding their psychological abduction flick.

Look for its LA debut this coming Sunday, October 14th at 6:00pm. Read on for the trailer and exclusive stills!

Written and produced by Guaglione and Resinaro (with other producer credits going to Mario Gianani, Lorenzo Mieli, Fausto Brizzi, Marco Martani and Peter Safran) and directed by Enrico Clerico Nasino, True Love stars Ellen Hollman, John Brotherton, Gabriel Myers, Jay Harrington, Clare Carey and Tyrees Allen, and (according to the film’s synopsis) revolves around, ’Kate and Jack, late 20's, who on the surface are happy. But like everyone, they carry secrets that neither is prepared to reveal. After their wedding they awake from a deep sleep, each alone in a sealed room with no doors or windows - only images projected on the walls and a monitor with two buttons: one for ‘yes’ and one for ‘no.’ As the horror of their situation unfolds, surveillance films showing their life together appear on the wall, while the monitor starts asking terrifying questions. It soon becomes apparent that a bizarre test of their relationship is underway, and the secrets revealed lead them deeper and deeper into what could not just destroy their love, but threaten their very lives.’

Chatting with the writers/producers, Guaglione told us of their inspiration for True Love, “As writers/directors we’ve been developing movie projects for years. It’s a long process every time, so we decided to actually make a movie instead of developing another one. Therefore, the spark that generated True Love actually was, ‘What’s the best story we can create with the minimum budget possible?’

From here, in order to kill costs, we had the idea of using only a bunch of actors, one main location and some ‘stolen found footage’ from hidden cameras. That’s how we came to the main concept of True Love: spying on the daily life of common people, recording their secrets, trapping a husband and wife in two separate rooms, and making them watch their recordings, and test them regarding the strength and the truthfulness of their true love.”

“So, our inspiration was very pragmatic,” added Resinaro, “but one thing was clear in our minds creatively speaking from the beginning. We wanted to use the rules of the thriller and horror genres in order to tell a story that ultimately is a love story. We always wanted to focus on the characters, their feelings, and their love story.”

“Therefore, we didn’t have direct inspirations from other movies,” Resinaro continued. “Even if we can say this movie probably would have not existed without works such as the first Saw or The Cube, and while they are the most recognizable influences you can see in our feature, they are not the deepest. In fact, speaking of influences, we feel that Silent Hill, Inception and most of all “Lost” all had major impacts in the shaping of True Love.”

As for their scripting process, “We approached the writing as a real inner journey, and we wrote the script in a couple of weeks,” offered Resinaro. “Yes, we had noted down the main turning points for the three acts, but we tried to imagine to ‘be trapped inside the room’ while writing the screenplay. That’s how, as an example, the idea of the device with the ‘yes’ and the ‘no’ buttons came to Guaglione. He was just imagining being inside that evil room, and that device was perfect to embody the conflicts and the themes of the movie, so we used it.”

“Having for the entire movie our characters trapped in a room,” added Guaglione, “we needed a lot of twists and turns for the plot, so we kind of tried to have a twist every three minutes. That led us to a number of subplots and connections that makes in our opinion the movie very thrilling and entertaining, even if we don’t have buildings that explode, or big superhero fights. If you watch the movie two or three times, you’ll be able to catch more details, and more nuances, that will help you create your own theory about what really happened inside, and outside, the room.”

TRUE LOVE (50 SEC TRAILER HD) from Mercurio Domina on Vimeo.

With the script complete, the duo undertook the more daunting task of finding funding for True Love.

“We came from the independent filmmaking world of music videos and short movies, so we wrote something that we knew we were able to make with a micro-budget,” Resinaro stated. “Then we went to Italian producers that usually make domestic comedies for millions of Euros, and we asked them, ‘Do you want to have an international cult thriller that you could make for ten percent of the budget that you usually invest to make one single Italian comedy feature film?’ We knew they just couldn’t say, ‘No’. The problem then was ours. We had to work for a couple of years using every single drop of our energy, tears and blood, without making a single Euro from it!”

With the ‘cinematic’ scenes filmed on the Canon 5D, the production employed handy cam, GoPro, cell phones, spy and web cams for the ‘found footage’ segments, shooting True Love for one week in Los Angeles, CA, with another three weeks of principle photography outside Milan, Italy, where the set of ‘the room’ had been constructed.

“Even if it’s a micro-budget movie, there’s a certain production value on every frame, visually and acoustically speaking,” said Guaglione. “Some line producers that saw the movie asked us, ‘You spent 2 million dollars, right?’ And we were like, ‘Yeah, right. Just kill one zero, and you’ll be nearer to our budget.’”

“Even the postproduction was done very indie,” added Resinaro. “Consider only two people working on all the editing, only two people working on all the VFX, or only four people working on all the sound and music. Combine all that with our perfectionism, and we had eight months of post-production, from editing to final 5.1 mix.”

As for the current status of True Love’s festival tour and distribution, “We’re currently living the festival and international sales phase,” Resinaro said. “We attended London Sci Fi, Shanghai International Film Festival, Rome Fantafestival, Ljutomer Grossman Festival, Sopot Film Festival and LA Scream Fest now. Next stops are Bruges’ Razor Reel Film Festival and Abertoir National Horror Film Festival.”

“Even if the movie hasn’t been officially released in any country yet, TF1, the international sales agency, sold the movie in more than twenty territories and more than sixty countries,” added Guaglione. “True Love doesn’t have a US/Canada distributor yet though, and we really hope something will change after LA Screamfest!”

“An American distributor would probably allow us to realize True Love Part 2, and wouldn’t that be lovely?” concluded Resinaro with a wink.

Screamfest L.A. 2012: Exclusive - Writer/Director Donna Davies Talks Nightmare Factory

With the 12h annual and venerated Screamfest L.A. Film Festival running this Friday, October 12th thru the 20th, we chatted today with Nightmare Factory writer, director and co-producer (with Dan Stewart) Donna Davies regarding her documentary on FX legend Greg Nicotero.

The flick is set for its LA debut Saturday, October 20th at 1:00pm. Read on for the trailer and an exclusive still!

Nightmare Factory (which features appearances by Howard Berger, George A Romero, Quentin Tarantino, John Carpenter, Frank Darabont, Robert Rodriguez, John Landis and Elijah Wood, among others) focuses (according to the official synopsis) on, ‘Greg Nicotero, who in 1989, quit medical school and headed for Hollywood to pursue a dream of making monsters. Together with gore masters Howard Berger and Robert Kurtzman, Nicotero went on to create KNB EFX Group, one of the most prolific make-up effects studios in the world. Nightmare Factory delves inside the high-stakes world of special FX make-up, and creature design, through the eyes of one of the industry’s key players.’

Speaking with Davies, she stated of her inspiration for the doc, “I visited KNB back in 2007 when I was making a documentary on the mass popularity of zombies called Zombiemania,” she said. “I interviewed Greg and was totally impressed by his enthusiasm for what he does. After the interview we toured the shop, and we were blown away by the racks of body parts, monsters and props from the hundreds of films (he’s worked on). When I was leaving, Greg offered to give me some behind-the-scenes footage he had shot on the set of a couple of zombie films. On the plane on the way back to Canada, I decided I had to make a film about KNB. I just wasn’t sure how to pull it off.”

A year later, while working on a documentary focused on women in horror titled Pretty Bloody, Davies visited KNB once again.

“At that point I approached Greg with the idea about the possibility of making a feature length doc about his work,” she told us. “He seemed to be up for it, so I kept in touch with him over the next two years, as I attempted to raise the money to make the film. I wanted to tell the story about how gross-out geeks like Greg and Howard had infiltrated Hollywood, and had carved out a very comfortable place in the history of cinema.”

Screamfest L.A. 2012: Exclusive - Writer/Director Donna Davies Talks Nightmare Factory

As for funding this idea, “That essentially consisted of me trying to convince Canadian funding agencies to help me make a film about an American make-up fx guru,” laughed Davies. “It wasn’t easy, but I finally got The Movie Network on board, and the rest of the funding fell into place from there. We got Movie Central and the Space Channel after that. Other funding came from Canadian tax credits, and government funding agencies.”

Shot over the course of twenty-four days in Los Angeles, and in Toronto, Pittsburg and Monessen at Tom Savini’s FX school, “The first days we were filming at KNB, and Elijah Wood dropped by to chat with Greg about a project,” reflected Davies of one of the more memorable moments of the shoot.

“We filmed as Greg took Elijah on a tour of the shop,” she expounded. It was cool to see Elijah geeking out over the various monsters and body parts scattered about. A few other high points were filming at Savini’s school, meeting Greg’s family, and interviewing Frank Darabont, John Landis and John Carpenter. Those men are geniuses!”

Nightmare Factory trailer from Ruby Tree Films on Vimeo.

“Everyone was pretty receptive once Greg got involved,” offered Davies of those who appear in the film. “He’d just pick up the phone and call John Landis or whoever and say, ‘Hey, I’ve got some Canadians here that want to talk to you.’ The main problem was actually booking time with Greg. His schedule is insane! He was busy with “The Walking Dead” when we were filming the doc, so he was really busy. We spent a lot of time in his office waiting for him to get off the phone.”

Nightmare Factory, while having sold rights in Canada, is currently open to further distribution.

Donna Davie’s production company can be visited online here.

More eye candy is coming out of the New York Comic Con as another one-sheet for Guillermo del Toro's giant-sized monster mash, Pacific Rim, is here. Check it out and remember to do your part to save the Earth. Just like that song from Godzilla vs. The Smog Monster.

Look for Pacific Rim in theatres July 12th of 2013. Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Charlie Day, Ron Perlman, Rinko Kikuchi, Max Martini, Rob Kazinsky, Clifton Collins, Jr., and Diego Klattenhoff star.

Travis Beacham's script is set in 2025, the 12th year of a war against alien creatures who reside in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. The story finds a group of humans banding together to create and pilot massive robots to fight the giant creatures threatening to destroy Earth.

    Synopsis
From acclaimed filmmaker Guillermo del Toro comes Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ epic sci-fi action adventure Pacific Rim.

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes--a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)--who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

Feature film talk of "The Walking Dead" has been floating around for a while now, and recently showrunner Glenn Mazzara addressed the rumors about the walkers making it to the silver screen. Read on for the skinny.

The way I look at this prison is when the outbreak happened, there was a zombie movie that took place in a prison,” explains Mazzara. “One day maybe we'll go back and film that movie. And now our guys come in, and they’re sort of the sequel to what happened. So there are survivors in that prison, damage in the prison,” he continues. “So walkers keep coming in; it's never safe. They fooled themselves into thinking the farm was safe. From the jump they know this prison is not safe.

Zak Bagans Vs. Praga Khan: Necrofusion - Listen to New Track 'Immortal Portal'

Zak Bagans, host of the popular paranormal series "Ghost Adventures," has joined forces with Lords of Acid's Praga Khan for one of the most intriguing music releases ever produced, NecroFusion, and we have another sample for you!

Bagans explains the story behind the song to our bros at Bloody Disgusting. “The spirit voices in this song were also captured in my home. On this particular night, I immediately grabbed the recording devices after a severe paranormal incident made a friend of mine leave my house. As I began rolling, I asked a series of questions with no response, but when I asked, 'Why are you following me?' a very dark voice came through confessing, 'I killed myself.' Intrigued I asked, 'What is your name?' …then a female voice very clearly told me 'Rhonda.' I then asked her if she messes with me in my sleep, seeing as one evening months earlier, I was dragged out of my bed by my ankles. She replied, 'I do' in an amusing tone as if she enjoyed messing with me. Again, this female voice lends to my attachments of a dark demonic entity and a possessive female spirit.”

Each one of the eleven tracks on NecroFusion not only tells the story of a departed soul who, for whatever reason, has not crossed over, but includes an actual audio message from the spirit - "electronic voice phenomena," or EVP. Armed with his SB7 Spirit Box, a recording device well-known by devotees of the "Ghost Adventures" series, Bagans has encountered inhabitants of the spirit world during his paranormal investigations, reached out to communicate with and question them, and then, when a spirit chose to communicate, he recorded the spirits' EVPs.

Look for Necrofusion in stores on October 23rd.
