Never Before Seen FX Footage from The Exorcist Here to Haunt YouIn what very well may be the greatest and most interesting thing to hit the Internet, several behind-the-scenes videos of The Exorcist have surfaced online that take you inside some of the film's many horrific effects.

The following footage came from a 16mm print which was labeled “Warner Bros color timed anamorphic test – The Exorcist.” The case housing it had William Friedkin’s name handwritten on the address label. The footage was shot on 35mm. This print was a 16mm reduction of the 35mm footage, probably intended to view tests at home or in the office.

BBC America's The Secret of Crickley Hall premieres on Sunday, October 28, at 8:00pm ET/PT, and we have the first look at the show's trailer right here. It seems like spooky fun that's perfect for the Halloween season!

Synopsis:
Based on the novel by best-selling British scribe James Herbert, the thriller begins a year after the disappearance of Cam, the son of Gabe Caliegh (Tom Ellis, "The Fades") and Eve Caleigh (Suranne Jones, "Doctor Who"). As the couple and their two daughters attempt to start anew, they head to Crickley Hall – a seemingly perfect countryside house. But when cellar doors start to open on their own, phantom children’s cries are heard through the night, and a frenzied cane-wielding specter rears its head – the Caleighs realize the house comes with a lot more than they bargained for. Just as they’re ready to move out, Eve Caleigh hears Cam’s cries, and all bets are off.

Shifting between 1943 and present day, the Caleighs are desperate to find the source of the crying and the connection the haunted house has to their son. Will they find him before the evil that stalks Crickley Hall finds their other children? Written and directed by Joe Ahearne ("Doctor Who"), this classic haunted house spine chiller is full of scares, yet underpinned by the heartbreaking story of a family needing to heal and ghosts who need to be laid to rest.

The Secret of Crickley Hall is a BBC production that also stars Douglas Henshall ("Primeval").

We run a lot of contests here at Dread Central, but this is one of the coolest yet! Up for grabs are signed copies of the NecroFusion CD and Dark World book from Zak Bagans, a "Ghost Adventures" DVD catalog, and an SB7 Ghost Spirit Box!

Zak Bagans, host of the popular paranormal series "Ghost Adventures," has joined forces with Lords of Acid's Praga Khan for one of the most intriguing music releases ever produced, NecroFusion. Each one of the eleven tracks on NecroFusion not only tells the story of a departed soul who, for whatever reason, has not crossed over, but includes an actual audio message from the spirit via "electronic voice phenomena," or EVP. Armed with his SB7 Spirit Box, a recording device well-known by devotees of the "Ghost Adventures" series, Bagans has encountered inhabitants of the spirit world during his paranormal investigations, reached out to communicate with and question them, and then, when a spirit chose to communicate, recorded the spirits' EVPs. Check out samples of the songs below:

Zak Bagans Vs. Praga Khan: NecroFusion'

As for Dark World: Into the Shadows with the Lead Investigator of The Ghost Adventures Crew (review here), the synopsis follows:

It's easy to say ghosts exist or don't exist. Anyone can do that. Trying to figure out the why or what is a different story. Paranormal investigator Zak Bagans, host of the popular Travel Channel series "Ghost Adventures," pulls from his years of experience with paranormal activities and unexplained phenomena to provide an evenhanded look at a divisive subject. In Dark World, regardless of whether you believe in the afterlife or not, Zak does his best to find and share answers to the phenomena that people encounter. He wants you to experience a haunting through his eyes: to feel what it's like to be scared, freaked out, pushed, cold, sluggish, whispered-at and touched by an ethereal being or attacked by a demonic spirit. But beyond simply experiencing these events, Zak is looking for the reasons behind them, searching for answers to the unanswered questions. Addressing all the major issues and theories of the field in an impartial way, Dark World is a must read for paranormal enthusiasts, those who don't believe and anyone who's ever wondered about things that go bump in the night.

Zak Bagan's Dark World

If you've read this far, you're no doubt well acquainted with "Ghost Adventures," but here's a brief overview for the uninitiated:

Each hour-long episode follows the paranormal investigative team Zak Bagans, Nick Groff, and equipment technician Aaron Goodwin as they explore some of America’s most haunted locations. After piecing together the profile of each site’s haunted past, the trio begin their dusk-to-dawn lockdown where they confront the reported activities head on in an attempt to uncover the truth. Afterwards they review and analyze their findings, often with chilling conclusions.

Now, how can you win all these goodies? Just click here or on the below banner and follow the instructions. The contest ends November 26th. Good luck!

Elvira is a very busy lady these days. Along with co-owning the Comikaze pop culture convention, expanding Elvira's Horror Hunt film festival, and working on both a live show and a potential reality show, she's launching a new series of comic books next year.

From the Press Release:
Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, is excited to announce a new series of Elvira comic books set to debut in 2013. Working with author R.H. Stavis (Daniel’s Veil, Activision’s Transformers: War for Cybertron) and artist Jeff Zarnow (Godzilla, 68, Battle Beasts), the stories will focus on Elvira’s MISS-adventures centered around a backstory about Halloween. The collaboration was teased to audiences at the recent Stan Lee’s Comikaze event in September in Los Angeles.

“Unlike a typical licensing deal, we are bringing together the power of the Elvira brand, a top-notch female writer, and a rising artist to develop a new line of comic books independently,” says Cassandra Peterson, aka Elvira, Mistress of the Dark. “We will then find a publishing/distribution partner that shares our vision to unleash these stories to the world.”

Gravitas Ventures Announces Five New Acquisitions for Its Burgeoning Horror SlateWith the "frightful" season in full swing, Gravitas Ventures has announced its acquisitions for October and November as part of the company's Gravitas Horror division's ongoing horror release schedule.

From the Press Release:
Gravitas Horror programs 10 hours worth of horror content each month and has released over 250 horror titles in the past two years. A film released within the Gravitas Horror offering is guaranteed to reach 100 million VOD homes with cable, satellite, telco, and online operators iTunes, Vudu, Amazon, and Sony Playstation, among others.

Gravitas President Michael Murphy, whose company was named to Inc. Magazine’s 500 fastest growing private company list two years in a row, believes there is a strong thirst for these horror titles in the VOD landscape. “We release 100 horror films a year into more than 100 million homes. Video on Demand allows the films of new directors to have a life today and, as technology evolves, an 'after-life’ as well,” says Murphy.

Gravitas works with more than 500 content partners. The Gravitas acquisitions team recently attended Shriekfest, Screamfest, and the LA Horror Film Festival to seek out new content and plans to attend AFM, Sundance, and SXSW in the coming months.

The latest Gravitas VOD titles include:

10/2 – DUST UP – starring "Buffy the Vampire Slayer” alum Amber Benson
10/9 – BLOODY BLOODY BIBLE CAMP – slated to screen at the LA Horror Film Festival
10/26 – IT'S IN THE BLOOD – starring Lance Henriksen, which recently won ‘Best Thriller’ at Shriekfest
11/1 – THE AFFLICTED – starring Leslie Easterbrook and Kane Hodder
11/13 – THANKSKILLING 3 – the first film to skip its own sequel features a fowl-mouthed turkey carving up victims as he searches for that last remaining DVD of ThanksKilling 2, which is his key to world domination

Other films currently in release include: Bad Meat, Lost Lake, Cropsey, The Coffin, Ahh Zombies, Anniversary of Shallow Creek, and Dead Matter.

Exclusive: Steven Bauer Talks Werewolf: The Beast Among Us

Exclusive: Steven Bauer Talks Werewolf: The Beast Among UsThroughout his 30+-year career, character actor Steven Bauer has been associated with films like Scarface, Thief of Hearts, Running Scared, Gleaming the Cube (a personal favorite), Raising Cain, Primal Fear and Traffic to name a few as well as the hit 80's TV series "Wiseguy."

For his latest project Bauer decided to switch things up a bit and don a crazy fur cap and eye patch to fight werewolves in Universal Studios Home Entertainment's latest classic monster project, Werewolf: The Beast Among Us, which was recently released on Blu-ray and DVD everywhere.

To mark the occasion, Dread Central had the opportunity to briefly chat with Bauer about how his life-long fandom for the Universal Monsters led to his involvement with Werewolf as well as more on his experiences shooting in Transylvania and how one small eye patch caused so many problems on set.

Check out our exclusive interview with Bauer below!

Dread Central: Considering your filmography, was the fact that Werewolf was a complete 180 for you part of the appeal? Did you come on board the project through the usual channels?

Steven Bauer: Oh yeah, that was the best part for me- going out of my comfort zone. I saw doing Werewolf as a real opportunity to play dress-up and to do the kind of movie that I've always wanted to but have found very few opportunities to do over the years. If you look at my body of work, there are not a lot of parts that I've played where I've been transported into a fantastical realm; most of my work has had more of a 'realistic' flavor.

So this was really fun to do because we all have to create these characters and not be too specific with anything- because it's an organic world, we didn't have to play by a certain set of rules.

But I knew the producers on this and had told them some time ago that I was a huge fan of the Universal Monster movies so if they ever had something like that in the future to keep me in mind. When they approached me, I was really honored because Universal has a great legacy of horror, and I knew this was going to be an exciting new chapter in that.

Dread Central: It seems like you had a blast playing Hyde; did you get to add in any of your own touches to the character at all?

Steven Bauer: He WAS a fun character to play (laughs)! Hyde had some of what you see to him in the script, but (director) Louis (Morneau) gave me a ton of freedom to flesh him out because at the point I came on board, he wasn't fully developed. He was just another hunter, kind of like window dressing, so once they got me into wardrobe and I could visualize him, that's when I began to give Hyde some fun flavors.

So what I did was add the eye patch to the wardrobe; I wanted him to have a great backstory, and what better backstory than a werewolf taking your eye? So then we put in one of my monologues this huge tall tale about how I had an encounter with the beast and he took out my eye. It was great fun; Hyde was a really fun and larger-than-life character to get to play.

Dread Central: Did the eye patch give you any difficulties at all?

Steven Bauer: Yeah, I think about 20 minutes into shooting with the eye patch, I realized that maybe I didn't think it through too much (laughs). It never dawned on me just how hard it would be to do some of the scenes and stunts with only one working eye. Suddenly I had to worry about running into trees with my horse or not looking in the right sight line because I was compensating for one eye. I was always tripping on set; it made me a bit clumsy, and my favorite moments of the day were when I could just lift that patch and let my eye breath. I don't know if your eye can be claustrophobic, but that's what it felt like.

But even though it was a little unbearable at times, it made for such a great aspect of the character so I knew I had to live with it. Or at least survive it (laughs).

Dread Central: Did you enjoy shooting in Transylvania? I really thought the location lent a lot of authenticity to production.

Steven Bauer: It was amazing; whenever you get to travel to an exotic country like Romania, it's just an amazing experience. Transylvania is a beautiful town with such a rich history to it that you can't help but get caught up in all of it. What was really interesting to me was when we got there, one of the buildings has a sign on the front that says, 'This is the birthplace of Vlad the Impaler,' and that just blew me away. That kind of history is rare in the world, so to create this monster movie in the birthplace of Vlad the Impaler was a pretty remarkable experience.

Synopsis
A monstrous creature terrorizes a 19th Century European village by moonlight, and a young man struggles to protect his loved ones from an unspeakable scourge in Werewolf: The Beast Among Us, Universal Studios’ all-new addition to its time-honored legacy of classic monsters. During his studies with the local doctor (Stephen Rea), Daniel (Guy Wilson) witnesses the horrific consequences of werewolf attacks. Watching as the beast’s fearsome reputation draws bounty hunters, thrill seekers, and charlatans to the tiny town, Daniel dreams of destroying the ruthless predator.

When a mysterious stranger (Ed Quinn) and his team of skilled werewolf hunters (Stephen Bauer, Adam Croasdell) arrive to pursue the monster, he offers to join them, despite his mother’s (Nia Peeples) protests. But it soon becomes clear that this creature is stronger, smarter, and more dangerous than anything they have faced before. As casualties mount and villagers see their neighbors transformed into ravening monsters, the townsfolk take up arms against each other to find the true identity of the werewolf. Amid the hysteria, Daniel begins to suspect he’s closer to his target than he ever dreamed.

Halloween B-Sides: Silver Shamrock

This weekend’s B-Sides is kind of a cheat since it isn’t a song at all – it’s a jingle. Perhaps the most famous commercial jingle in all of horror cinema. You know the one I’m talking about, and you know why it’s so highly appropriate just a few days out from Halloween.

Modern pagans masquerading as a Halloween mask company plotting a high-tech sacrifice via a seemingly innocent television commercial. It can only mean Halloween III: Season of the Witch.

Amazing how unforgettable a simple little commercial jingle can be counting down the days to Halloween set to a jazzed up synthesizer remix of “London Bridge Is Falling Down”.

Try getting this jingle out of your head the rest of the day. Even Tom Atkins can’t save you this time.

The Vampire Diaries Season 4Instead of the gallery's worth of images they usually send our way for "The Vampire Diaries" each week, The CW has only released four photos from the upcoming Episode 4.04, "The Five." But since they contain our first good look at new character Professor Shane, we won't complain too much.

"The Vampire Diaries" Episode 4.04, "The Five" (11/1/12 airdate)
A FRAT PARTY AND A FLASHBACK TO 12TH CENTURY ITALY — Damon (Ian Somerhalder) goes with Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Bonnie (Kat Graham) to visit Whitmore College, where Professor Shane (guest star David Alpay, “The Borgias”) is taking over the Occult Studies classes formerly taught by Bonnie’s grandmother. At a fraternity costume party, Damon takes advantage of the wild scene to give Elena a lesson in choosing a victim.

Rebekah’s (Claire Holt) attempt to buy Matt’s (Zach Roerig) forgiveness falls flat, but she is intrigued by unexpected news from Klaus (Joseph Morgan). When Stefan (Paul Wesley) questions Klaus about Connor’s (guest star Todd Williams) motives, Klaus reveals a long-ago encounter with a powerful group of vampire hunters, but it’s Rebekah who delivers the information that stuns Stefan.

Joshua Butler directed the episode written by Brett Matthews and Rebecca Sonnenshine.

Adelaide Clemens Talks Silent Hill: Revelation, Battling Monsters, Channeling Ultimate Evil, and More

$
0
0

A recent trend is taking the stereotypical horror heroine who would normally be resigned to get naked…and then get beheaded…and butch her up. A strong female lead can be every bit as compelling as an overly masculine hero, even more so.

Our heartstrings always pull for a nubile nymph with a chainsaw and heaps of bloody intent.

Adelaide Clemens steps up as the latest femme horror hero, following in the footsteps of the original ladies of Silent Hill (the movie) and actually picking up where one left off. Adelaide plays Heather, formerly Sharon, that timid little girl with a vengeful, vicious dark side in Alessa. Rose (Radha Mitchell) has found a way to send Sharon back to our world, and now daughter and father (Sean Bean) must flee for their lives from the members of a religious sect related to those lost souls who love burning “witches” in their churches.

Adelaide Clemens Talks Silent Hill: Revelation, Battling Monsters, Channeling Ultimate Evil, and More

Adelaide expands on what transpires, "They’ve been on the run for 6 years, and I don’t think she really knows why. There’s a lot of her past that she’s still trying to figure out. She has these experiences that are getting increasingly frightening, and eventually that leads her to the world of Silent Hill."

Adelaide plays a younger version of her character, the central 18-year-old Heather character, and her evil alter ego, Alessa, remarking that channeling ultimate evil was no easy task. She loves playing with vocal dynamics and toyed with the way that Alessa holds herself to conjure up a creature evolved from that playful young thing we last saw dancing in a shower of blood. Adelaide went to the video games and pored over the first film to fill out her performance. "Losing your mind is one of the scariest things for me. Not knowing your own identity… I think that character had desperation to her. She was essentially going to lose her identity. What would you do if you were going to lose your mind? Your identity? You’d fight pretty hard."

Shooting in 3D brings with it a new set of challenges on top of making an audience feel your terror. Adelaide notes that working in this medium is way more time consuming than just shooting a standard film. She also mentioned this was the most physically taxing role she has ever taken on, a fact that surprised the avid runner and former gymnast.

"Every day for 4 months… running and jumping and screaming and doing stunts was really strenuous but also made me feel like I was Heather! So it was great. And in 3D I can’t just be shoving my hand into the lens because then you’ll have a hand in your face… and I wouldn’t want to do that to you."

With only one CGI monster (the mannequin creature we talked about with director Michael J. Bassett), Adelaide had plenty to work with to enhance her visibly jarred performance and make for a surreal life on set. "Red Pyramid was a wonderful stunt man on stilts. He was 10 feet tall [notice he is growing from Bassett's prior mention of 8'2" (read our interview with him here)] and holding a huge axe double my height, and he’d just be walking around set. And then there’s all the nurses - incredible body contortionists - you see in the film and in the games. They all had individual personalities! You’d see them at lunch, and Jenny would take off her mask and you’d stand there thinking, 'This is VERY weird,' but at the same time they have personalities, they can perform; it’s not like guys at a computer. There’s life breathed into these characters. I’ve seen the film, and I think it creates a totally different feel. I was genuinely petrified most of the time! We’d be off set kind of walking around having a chat, and then Michael would call action and then YEA! I’m expected to FIGHT RED PYRAMID! I’m just a chick from Australia. Give me a break. That was just insane."

We couldn’t miss the opportunity to ask Adelaide if there was one monster on set that creeped her out the most. Her response was a resounding YES!! And she made a little tongue roll noise as if the mere mention were giving her chills as she prepared to relive the moments.

"There was this monster that I wasn’t familiar with… it’s like the Lobotomy Monster? [See our Michael J. Bassett chat again for details.] We had this incredible actor who was insanely tall, 6'7" or something. There was a part of his body which we… enhanced. I think they enhanced it digitally, and his face had repeated lobotomies done to it - so imagine that." We'd rather not because that’s just some McFarlane Tortured Souls stuff right there.

Adelaide continued, "And then… it didn’t have a face. It was just his brains coming out of his nose and eyes, and I had to do a fight sequence with this man… monster… thing… I don’t know. And then I have Michael going, 'NOW SHOOT HIM IN THE FACE!!' I had my eyes closed because it was so grotesque, and I kept missing the head! And he’d yell, 'NO! IN THE FACE!!' He doesn’t have a face!" *wimpers* *fake sobbing* "Ya know, it was just another day in the life of Silent Hill! *laughs*

So we know Adelaide was familiar with the franchise, and she built on that saying she’d always stepped over the games in her home where her two brothers enjoyed scaring themselves silly, playing for hours. On a personal note, she admits to being a poor, poor gamer, taking a half-hour just to set up a profile.

"To be honest, I think I lasted like 32 minutes the first time I played. I just…DIED. I last longer in the film than I do in the game, but I’m a huge fan of the games. I think they are petrifying. I get a very sick feeling when I’m playing them. I think that’s Konami’s intention."

Obviously, in such a horrific circumstance, Adelaide would have to draw on the power of heroines from past films to find her strength. She mentioned Kill Bill as a film she watches over and over and Lara Croft as being kind of awesome." "I love strong female leads."<?i> When asked if she’d jump at the chance to play Lara Croft, she instantly replied, "TOTALLY!! If I can look anything like Angelina Jolie…"

Look for our chat with Kit Harington, the final installment in our interview series for the film, tomorrow.

Fourth Castle Media and Invalesco Entertainment Debut Monster Movie Label Thingmaker Entertainment

Genre marketer Fourth Castle Media and talent management/production company Invalesco Entertainment announce the creation of Thingmaker Entertainment, a microbudget monster movie production and distribution label. Read on for the details!

The announcement comes during this weekend's Son of Monsterpalooza, a popular Los Angeles convention for fans of old school monsters and practical special effects. Invalesco’s M. Dal Walton, a seasoned film executive with credits such as Rambo, Narc, and the remakes of The Wicker Man and Day of the Dead, says of the new company: “New technologies for production and distribution have made it viable to create new genre movies specifically for their fans without watering down the experience by trying to be all things to all people. Thingmaker Entertainment will produce and distribute movies for fans of the z-grade, zero-budget drive-in monster movie classics of yesteryear. Our focus will be on the monster: creative, exciting, and well executed.”

At Monsterpalooza, Walton and Fourth Castle President Joe Sena are releasing the names and key art of five titles from the initial slate of twelve movies. Those titles are:

• SHEDRA: A diet supplement made from snake venom extract turns women into reptilian, acid-spitting creatures who devour their mates.
• LARVA: Toxic waste dumped at an old cemetery mutates worms into giant man-eating creatures.
• ATTACK OF THE GIANT MUTANT SCORPION FROM HELL: A group of extreme sports enthusiasts at a desert event are attacked by the title creature.
• FLESH EATER FROM OUTER SPACE: The familiar story of a monster crashing to earth in a meteor gets a modern twist when the creature’s secret is revealed.
• 1775: The Founding Fathers face off against an alien invasion, but not the Redcoat kind (check out a short video teaser shot specifically for the convention below).

“These are monster movies for monster fans,” says Sena. “They’ll all be practical where possible, with memorable creature design and lots of eye-popping gore.”

The films are slated to begin their domestic theatrical run in 2013. “These films are meant to be seen with an audience of like-minded fans,” Sena continues. “The lion’s share of the budget will be on the monsters, so all the other trappings of classic z-grade films will definitely be apparent. It takes a special kind of fan to appreciate that.”

“Independent theater owners have been hit hard the last few years,” adds Walton, “so we aim to give them consistent entertainment for their core attendees – true movie fans – who will buy tickets, spend at the concession counter, and come back again and again.” Thingmaker Entertainment will participate with theater owners in “old school” marketing and promotional activities specifically tailored for the monster movie fan.

This sounds right up our alley so look for lots more soon! In the meantime dig on these awesome posters.

To get all you fiends in the Halloween spirit, Dread Central partnered with Stan Winston's School of Character Arts to bring you seven days of Stan Winston's Famous Monsters—our exclusive series profiling the creations of one of the most influential monster men of his or any generation.

Today, we've got something truly special for you cult movie fans out there- a behind-the-scenes look at Dead & Buried. Released in 1981, the film that was once dubbed a "Video Nasty" by the UK was directed by Gary Sherman from a screenplay co-written by Ronald Shusett and Dan O'Bannon.

For the uninitiated out there, the film follows a series of mysterious murders plaguing a small New England town named Potter's Bluff and as the local sheriff begins to put the pieces of the puzzle together, he stumbles upon a dark and disturbing secret that reveals a larger and more gruesome plan at work than just some random killings. Some of the best parts of Dead &Buried (besides the wicked cool effects work) are the reveals to the story so we'll keep the details short and sweet so that we don't ruin all the fun.

And while it's certainly not one of the more high-profile projects on his resume, Dead & Buried remains one of Winston's earliest triumphs in his distinguished career considering that most of the controversy surrounding the flick was due to the realistically graphic nature of the material, Winston's onscreen creations being a huge aspect of that controversy.

Below we have an exclusive look at some of Winston's creations for Dead & Buried including the sculpture and lifecasting work created by the iconic special effects master himself. Check out the stills in our gallery below and if you've never checked out Dead & Buried before, do yourself a favor and remedy that STAT!

At the rate Scream Factory keeps announcing new titles they’re going to singlehandedly make 2013 a very expensive year for horror fans. With Halloween days way they decided to announce three new titles: X-Ray, Schizoid, and The Godsend.

None of the three latest Scream Factory titles announced Friday have ever been released on DVD before. According to Scream Factory’s Facebook posting announcing the trio of Cannon Film horror titles that could be the only format they’re released in since they haven’t even looked at the masters yet to determine if Blu-ray releases are even feasible. Whatever format they get released in don’t expect them until well into 2013.

X-RAY (AKA HOSPITAL MASSACRE): Ex-Playboy Playmate Barbi Benton star in this 1982 horror flick about a beautiful woman who goes to the hospital for a routine check-up and finds herself being stalked by a maniac seeking revenge for a childhood Valentine’s Day prank.

Halloween Box Office: Hotel Transylvania Tops, Paranormal Activity Drops, Silent Hill Flops

$

Paranormal Not Scaring Up as Much Box Office Activity as It Used ToAs the 2012 Halloween movie season draws to a close the big box office winner is… Hotel Transylvania? Yep! This Halloween belonged to the kiddies. It sure didn’t belong to Silent Hill: Revelation or Paranormal Activity 4.

The final weekend before Halloween and the highest grossing movie featuring things that go bump in the night, according to Box Office Mojo, is once again the computer animated Hotel Transylvania. Jumping up from fourth place last week to second just behind Argo with $9.5 million, the Sony Animation 3D family film has raked in $130 million in just five weeks. Adam Sandler’s animated Dracula is on track to “blah blah blah”-ing his way to being Sony’s highest grossing animated movie of all time.

Something that clearly won’t still be playing in theaters a month from now will be Paranormal Activity 4. Horror movies tend to drop big in their second week but a 70% drop is especially terrible. Coming in fourth with $8.6 million, its two week total is $42.5 million – ten million dollars less than part 3 grossed on its opening weekend alone.

One franchise that won’t have to worry about making it to a fourth installment is Silent Hill. As if getting some of the most scathingly negative reviews of the year wasn’t bad enough, adding insult to injury was the lousy $8 million opening weekend for Silent Hill: Revelation, tying for fifth place with Taken 2, a movie that has been out for nearly month. That’s $12 million less than the $20+ million the previous Silent Hill opened up to years ago without benefit of inflated 3D ticket prices. It also received a far-too-generous yet still quite poor “C” Cinemascore, which seems to be the score every horror movie opening this month has garnered.

Sinister looks to be about done with its theatrical run, barely hanging in the top ten at 8th place with another $5 million. That brings its total to $39.4 million, which may not be quite enough for Lionsgate to bring back Mr. Boogey to haunt anymore home movies.

Though not horror, Nickelodeon’s Halloween-themed tweener comedy Fun Size should have been titled Pint Sized given how little business it did its opening weekend. It opened in 10th with $4 million. I’m sure you’ll get to see it for free on TV in about a year or two on Nick when they try making it a staple of their Halloween programming.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, pretty much does it for wide release horror movies in 2012. Is The Collection even getting a wide release the weekend after Thanksgiving? If not, that’s it for the year. Unless you want me to count the final Twilight movie and I know you don’t, just like you don’t want me to mention it’ll make astronomically more money than every other horror movie of the year, either. Aside from that, I don’t think there’s another wide release horror movie opening on screen all across the country until Texas Chainsaw 3D January 4th of 2013.
