Those devilish denizens of Dark Horse Comics are at it again with a third piece of the puzzle that is B.P.R.D. (Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense). What better way to close out the week than with another sneak peek at some new artwork for the series?

From the Previous Press Release:
The epic storyline that began back in 2010 with B.P.R.D. Hell on Earth: New World is coming to a head in 2012 as Dark Horse announces its most ambitious B.P.R.D. publishing schedule yet.

First up, in February comes B.P.R.D. Hell on Earth: The Long Death, written by Mike Mignola and John Arcudi, with art by James Harren (Abe Sapien: The Devil Does Not Jest, Heralds). A team is sent to the deadly woods from New World to investigate a new series of disappearances, but they discover more than just the monster responsible, as loyalties are questioned and tensions mount!

March will see the release of B.P.R.D. Hell on Earth: The Pickens County Horror, written by Mike Mignola and Scott Allie, with art by Jason Latour (Wolverine, Scalped) and an all-new cover by Becky Cloonan! This chilling two-issue series brings a B.P.R.D. crew into the grips of a backwoods vampire clan hiding out in a Gothic southern home.

Next, in May comes B.P.R.D. Hell on Earth: The Transformation of J. H. O’Donnell, pairing Mike Mignola with Scott Allie again for the discovery of what drove the Bureau’s expert on ancient foes to near madness after a mission with Hellboy twenty-four years earlier. This supernatural thrill ride features art by B.P.R.D. newcomer Max Fiumara (Amazing Spider-Man) and a cover by Becky Cloonan.

That same month features the return of the regular B.P.R.D. team of Mike Mignola, John Arcudi, and Tyler Crook, with B.P.R.D. Hell on Earth: The Devil’s Engine. The Zinco Corporation again rears its ugly head after a devastating earthquake, pitting Devon and Fenix in an uneasy alliance against bat-faced monsters and the evil empire’s other mad-science experiments! Additionally, this new series will feature covers by former Hellboy artist Duncan Fegredo!

Finally, Cameron Stewart returns to the B.P.R.D. universe in June with B.P.R.D. Hell on Earth: Exorcism! In this story we learn more about Ashley Strode’s evolution as an agent after she meets up with a familiar face for a series of exorcisms in a rural Indiana town. Mike Mignola and Cameron Stewart team up to share writing duties, with pencils by Cameron and covers by Viktor Kalvachev!

“Let’s break some stuff that can’t be fixed. Let’s turn some corners where there’s no going back” said Mike Mignola. “In both Hellboy and B.P.R.D., we’re saying, 'Well, once we do this—-once we round this corner—-that’s it!' It’s not like, 'Oh, Batman, different costume.' We’re doing stuff where there’s no way to fix it. That is the new reality in our world. You're REALLY going to see that in 2012.”

B.P.R.D. is sure to be the most-talked-about series of the coming year, as the team stands at the brink of the end of the organization and the world itself!

For more on the series be sure to check out our exclusive interview with Scott Allie, but first click here for Teaser #1 and here for Teaser #2.

Looking for some fresh reading material for your Kindle or iPad bookshelf? How about thumbing through Dan Thomas' zombie horror novella Dark Highway about a hapless young salesman who is zombified by listening to sales motivation tapes?

Originally published a while back as a trade paperback by Black Death Books, Dark Highway is now being reissued as an eBook with some spiffy new cover art.

Synopsis:
Dead End! Fueled by high hopes and the words of motivational speaker Skip Forney, traveling salesman Tom Turley takes a road trip into Wyoming to close a deal that will salvage his self-respect and save his cheesy, low-dog job - and winds up taking a wrong turn into hell! After a bloody encounter with serial killer swingers, Tom wakes up from a dirt nap with a continually decomposing body, the entrepreneurial spirit, a craving for human flesh - and a taste for revenge. But what's a zombie to do with all eternity on his side? Re-inventing himself as a merger maniac with fangs, Tom becomes the King of Wall Street and proves that even death can't stop a man from staking his claim (through the hearts of his clients) or greasing the wheels of the corporate machine (with blood).

Dark Highway is a lurid, humorous tale of zombie perseverance, hostile takeovers and world conquest and invites you to take a horrifying, B-movie ride into the underbelly of one man's demonized soul.

B-Sides: Green Slime Screaming 'Cross Your Mind

A trippy, late 1960’s rock song that blends acid rock with an Etherwave theremin has the potential to be awesome as is. Make that song about killer green slime from outer space, and you have one of the greatest B-Sides of all time. It’s Green Slime time!

A year after Stanley Kubrick brought the world the masterpiece 2001: A Space Odyssey, celebrated Japanese filmmaker Kinju Fukasaku gave us the bad movie masterpiece The Green Slime. This 1969 US-Japanese co-production dealt with a space station’s encounter with an asteroid covered with a green slime; samples brought back to the station grow into rubbery green cyclopean monsters with electrocuting tentacles, the likes of which would make even the first incarnations of Doctor Who chortle in disbelief.

The Green Slime is widely hailed as one of the most entertaining bad movies of all time and was the first movie “Mystery Science Theater 3000” roasted back in its days before airing on Comedy Central. What’s not to love? Astronauts, scientists, and sexy Italian nurses on a model space station fighting green rubber eyeball monsters with flailing, electrified tentacles played by Japanese schoolchildren in goofy costumes.

One of the keys to The Green Slime’s endearing legacy as a b-movie favorite is its one-of-a-kind theme song by Charles Fox. All one need do is watch this custom made music video, and it should be abundantly clear why both this memorably kooky song and the movie from which it hails are the stuff bad movie classics are made of.

Is it something in your head?

Will you believe it when you’re dead?

Nope, it’s just... GREEN SLIME!

At the end of writer/director/producer Paul W.S. Anderson's 2010 sequel Resident Evil: Afterlife, many fans were surprised to see Boris Kodjoe's character Luther West survive after testifying about "star power, bitches!" to a couple of evolved zombies chasing him out of the prison sewers.

During Dread Central's recent set visit in Toronto for Screen Gems' upcoming Resident Evil: Retribution, we sat down with the ever-charismatic Kodjoe to talk more about the return of Luther in the latest installment, his thoughts on working with Anderson and the gang once again and makes a case for his own 3D spin-off movie as well.

Set Visit Interview: Boris Kodjoe Discusses the Return of Luther West for Resident Evil: Retribution and More)

Kodjoe also briefly chatted about another 3D project that will be arriving in theaters later this year, Nurse 3D, which you can read about here. Check out all the highlights from Kodjoe's interview below and make sure to check back soon for more from two newcomers to the Resident Evil franchise- Johann Urb who is coming on to play fan favorite Leon Kennedy as well as Li BingBing who will be portraying another fan favorite, Ada Wong.

Q: When did you first find out that you were going to be back in the fifth one?

A: I guess two years ago when I read the script and found out that I didn’t die. That was pretty clear then.

Q: This movie seems to be playing with a lot of duality. There are characters that aren’t who they say they are, there are characters who come back from the grave -

    A: - clones.

Q: Yeah clones. Now your character disappeared for a little bit of time at the end of the last one, so are you who you say you are in this one?

A: I have no idea. I really don’t know. Paul’s imagination is amazing- he’s like a kid in a candy store. Every script is like a new adventure and it shows on the screen so as an actor being invited on his playground, so to speak, is an honor. This is really one of the franchises, one of the movies that is most fun to shoot. Not only is the cast amazing and fun to work with, Paul’s energy sort of transcends and it translates down to everyone on set so it’s not really work. It’s playing. It’s a lot of fun.

Actually this movie is going to be much more action oriented than the last one. There’s a lot of great fight sequences that we’ve shot so far. The next 8 or 9 days we’re just going to be fighting. We got Nick Powell onboard who is probably the best stunt coordinator on the planet. He’s done everything from The Last Samurai to Gladiator to Braveheart and he’s incredible; having him and Paul together is like a lethal combination- I’m so sore I can hardly move.

Q: Can you talk about who’s being chased in the big chase scene everyone's been mentioning?

A: We’re being chased. Me and Milla and Johann and Kevin. We’re all in the car together. We spent like 5 days in the car together.

Q: Is it the Rolls Royce thing?

A: Exactly. And that is just unbelievable; they’re all coming after us, this whole army of undead. You know they’re motorized now and lethal with like these creatures. It’s amazing. And Paul, you know, he literally shot the movie. He animated it and finished it. So every frame of the movie has already been produced so we can actually watch what we’re doing before we’re doing; It’s incredible. You could really release that as an animated movie and it looks fantastic.

Q: As the grosses go up and you’re bringing new audience members in for each film, what about this film do you think will be the most attractive to someone who hasn’t seen any of the prior films?

A: They’ve done an amazing job prepping the audience. Even in cases where they haven’t seen the first 16 movies (laughs). So it’s sort of a standalone movie as well. So I think the action aspect is going to be a huge selling point. He’s just been doing stuff that he hasn’t done before. It’s going to be incredible and Paul is a master of using 3D technology to elevate content rather than replace it. A lot of filmmakers who are not as used to using 3D, 3D becomes (their) sort of story point and I think that’s missing the point. If you use 3D to elevate a story and to give the movie a certain look that will make it better that’s how you’re supposed to use 3D; Paul is a master of that.

Q: A lot of the characters have a good version and a bad version. A dual thing. Do you have a bad version?

A: In terms of mutants or cloning, my character hasn’t been subjected to that yet but I wouldn’t be surprised if in the next movie I don’t grow some horns and start eating people or something. Who knows! I don’t know. We’ll see. (laughs)

Q: Have you talked to Paul about the sixth one? Does this seem intrinsically connected with that film?

A: Yeah, it is. It’s also connected just from an economic standpoint because Sony is very excited about this franchise. So there were actually talks about shooting both of them at the same time, back to back which they abandoned at the last minute.

Q: So the script for the next one actually exists?

A: I don’t think he’s written it but I think it’s very prominent in his head. He’s told me about it, so I think he already knows in broad strokes what the 6th one is going to look like.

Q: Why do you think the Resident Evil movies have done so well whereas other video game adaptations from Hollywood have failed?

A: Good question. I don’t think there’s a formula; I think it’s just a roll of the dice. But I also think that Paul is a great storyteller and I think sometimes other people rely too much on the video game as a content that will stand alone. There are certain elements that have to fit for it to come alive because people want to root for somebody; people want to be invested in somebody and I think Milla is the perfect hero to carry this franchise. She brings everything to the table. She brings hardcore 'kickassness', Clint Eastwood-ness to the character.

    Q: Meaning what?

A: Meaning (imitates deep Eastwood voice) 'she talks like this' which is cool. She’s the anchor and she pulls it all together. Also this post-apocalyptic thing that people always sort of romanticize in a way also has a lot to do with it and I think now that we’ve sort of got into a nice rhythm, starting with number four, where the awareness has changed from just sort of provincial video game fans to the actual general public are interested too.

Q: Which is weird because it’s usually diminishing returns by the time people get to five.

A: Yeah, but I think the video game audience was huge in the beginning but now it’s caught on to general audiences so I think it’s still going to grow. And then there’s going to be a movie that’s called Luther West 3D. (Laughs)

Vampires Invade Audi's Super Bowl Commercial

On Sunday, February 5th, the New England Patriots will try to avenge their Super Bowl XLII loss to the New York Giants as the two teams square off again, this time in Indianapolis, in Super Bowl LXVI. Some of you can't wait for the game. Others couldn't give a crap less. But there are definitely cool things everyone can enjoy about the Super Bowl: the parties and the commercials, especially this one featuring some unlucky vamps.

I don't care how much you hate sports; there's no reason not to attend a Super Bowl party. Great food covered in grease and sauce and cheese, beer flowing like a river, and probably a couple of gambling pools which might be able to turn your measly $10 into a couple hundred. Hell, if you hate the game that much, just hang out in the kitchen until the commercials come on.

And speaking of commercials, Audi's got one for us. The ad for the new Audi S7, which will be premiering on television during this year's Super Bowl, has a great vampire theme, and they pay tribute to both the Twilight vamps and the classics. We've got a sneak preview for you below. Enjoy!
