Star Trek's Benedict Cumberbatch Climbing Guillermo del Toro's Crimson PeakThough he's best known right now for being the big bad in the upcoming Star Trek Into Darkness, we'll always love Benedict Cumberbatch for his roles as Sherlock Holmes and Danny Boyle's Frankenstein Monster. However, that may just change...

According to Variety, Cumberbatch is set to star in Guillermo del Toro's next feature with Legendary, Crimson Peak. Cumberbatch will join Emma Stone and Charlie Hunnam with del Toro helming. Plot details are unknown as del Toro and Lucinda Coxon work through a rewrite on a script del Toro and Matthew Robins originally penned.

Del Toro previously described the film as “a very set-oriented, classical but at the same time modern take on the ghost story. It will allow me to play with the conventions of the genre I know and love and at the same time subvert the old rules.

Legendary will produce and be a participating financing partner on the movie, with Universal Pictures retaining an option to finance at a later date.

Syfy Crashes a Plane into a New ShowAs if there weren't enough reasons to not get into a plane (thereby letting someone you don't know control your fate at 35,000 feet while you're offered peanuts for your trouble), the Syfy channel is poised to give us yet another show to keep us from flying the frightening skies.

Deadline is reporting that the network has bought a drama spec written by Alfonso H. Moreno ("NCIS").

The untitled project, from Fox TV Studios and Ross Fineman’s FtvS-based Fineman Entertainment, starts off with a meteorite striking a plane. The only two survivors find themselves sleepwalking and waking up with no memory of their actions. On the run from the government, they must figure out what happened to them and prove their innocence. Moreno and Fineman executive produce. Of course some alien-based subplot complete with horrid CGI will be thrown into the mix.

That being said, given that the events portrayed in the movie, as well as in Perron's book, House of Darkness, House of Light, took place over a decade ago, the question beckons... what has become of the farmhouse since she and her family left? Are the current owners of the home experiencing anything? In the video below Perron travels back to the now infamous location to speak first-hand with the people who now live there. This is DEFINITELY worth a look for you cats interested in the paranormal. Dig it!

Explore the Stephen King Universe Like NEVER BeforeWhen it comes to creating a living and breathing universe for fans to play in, few people do it better than legendary horror author Stephen King. Part of the charm of the worlds that King creates is that they intersect with each other from book to book. It can be pretty hard to keep track of. Until now.

Stephen King uber-fan Gillian James has put together a pretty neat flowchart to help us keep things in order. "My love for his books is based around his characters," James writes via her site on BlogSpot. "They are so full. I love Stephen King dialogue. I love his sense of humor. And I love the links and connections between the books. I am the kind of annoying person who likes to know the 'In Joke' so of course I made a flowchart!"

We here at Dread Central salute you, Gillian. Lord knows this had to have been quite the undertaking. You have our thanks. Now for the love of all that is holy, go and get yourself some well deserved aspirin.

Original Prometheus Scribe Jon Spaihts Sucked into a Black Hole

Original Prometheus Scribe Jon Spaihts Sucked into a Black HoleWhile we all wait for someone with a clue to help director Ridley Scott finally get a sequel to Prometheus off the ground, the film's original writer, Jon Spaihts, has drifted off into a new galaxy where no one can here him scream (out of frustration).

According to THR, Spaihts has been hired to kickstart a remake of the 1979 classic The Black Hole, which has Joe Kosinski - the filmmaker behind the upcoming Tom Cruise sci-fi pic Oblivion - attached to direct.

The original followed a group of space explorers aboard the USS Palomino who come across a lost ship, the USS Cygnus, hovering outside a black hole. Inside the Cygnus the explorers meet a scientist commanding an army of faceless robots, who explains that his crew deserted him as he planned to go through the black hole. The explorers soon discover that the robots are the remnants of the former crew and that the scientist has no intention of letting them leave.

This one could go either way in terms of if we should be covering it or not. Especially when Damon Lindelof inevitably comes in to ruin all the cool stuff Spaihts put into his script and replace it with nonsensical headsy bullshit that ultimately goes nowhere.
